About

Polish-born American playwright Martyna Majok crafts raw and poignant stories that resonate deeply with audiences. Raised in working-class, immigrant communities in New Jersey, Majok's plays explore themes of social justice, economic disparity, and the complexities of human connection.

Her breakthrough came with Ironbound (2014), a play that drew inspiration from her own mother's experiences. This success propelled her career, culminating in the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Cost of Living. This innovative two-act play, presented in a non-linear format, explores the challenges faced by characters with disabilities and their caregivers. One of Majok's latest works, Sanctuary City (2021), tackles the ever-present issue of immigration through the lens of two undocumented young adults.
