[0:00] Martín Acuña: Hi everyone, I am Martín Acuña and you are listening to Backstage Talk.
[0:18] Martín Acuña: During these two years I have fulfilled the dream to be part of the Broadway community.
[0:25] Martín Acuña: I have met people I never even thought I could and now I call them friends.
[0:30] Martín Acuña: I want to take a moment to say thank you to you, the listeners out there that, like me, dream of working on places like Broadway, with teams full of people like the guests I've had on the podcast, that every day wake up with a pit of fire in their bellies ready to create art that moves the world, ready to improve our industry. I also want to thank my guests for letting me share their story and for being generous enough to open up the gates into their lives, for letting me be a platform for them. For this new season I decided to do a Latinx in Musical Theatre special because, hey, Latinx had quite the year during 2021 with films like In the Heights, West Side Story, and Encanto finally being released. The time has come for me to celebrate what it means to be a Latin man making his way to Broadway.
[1:33] Martín Acuña: This season will feature top-notch artists from across the industry, from several Latin American countries or Latin heritages, because we are all so different and diverse. We may speak the same language but we are absolutely different. We have and come in as many or more colors than the rainbow and in different shapes and forms. We are united by food and music and a magic that comes in our blood. Something I have learned here at Backstage Talk has been the power of community and I am honored to feature and amplify such magnificent voices of my people, my family, my own heroes. As said in the wonderful, powerful voice of our first guest Eric Ulloa, who tweeted, we need to be shouting these wins from the rooftops because when one of us wins, we all win. For our industry to change, we must be that change. Latinx creatives must make room for all other Latinx creatives and we are making our voices heard.
[2:49] Martín Acuña: So, without further ado, this is from Latin America to and for Broadway and the world. Welcome to season three of Backstage Talk. I hope you enjoy. Thanks everyone for listening to this new episode of Backstage Talk.
