Sonja D. Williams is a professor in the Howard University Department of Media, Journalism and Film in Washington, DC. She has written and produced numerous documentaries for NPR, PRI, Smithsonian Productions, and local radio stations nationwide. These include the prestigious George Foster Peabody Awards for Significant and Meritorious Achievement for Smithsonian Productions, Public Radio International’s Black Radio: Telling It Like It Was, NPR’s Making the Music, NPR and Radio Smithsonian’s Wade in the Water: African American Sacred Music Traditions. We discuss her book Word Warrior The Life of Richard Dunham, creator of the original Destination Freedom.
