John Cariani is a versatile actor, playwright, and Tony-nominated performer best known for his work in both Broadway and regional theater. His breakout role on Broadway came in 2004 when he played Motel the tailor in the revival of Fiddler on the Roof, earning him a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.

As a playwright, Cariani is celebrated for his play Almost, Maine, a collection of whimsical, romantic vignettes that has become one of the most frequently produced plays in the United States since its debut in 2004. His other works include Last Gas and Love/Sick, both of which showcase his unique blend of humor and heart in exploring the complexities of human relationships.

In addition to Fiddler on the Roof, Cariani has appeared on Broadway in Something Rotten! as Nigel Bottom, a role that highlighted his comedic talents and earned him critical praise. He also played Itzik in The Band’s Visit, a production that won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2018.
