[0:00] Michael Fell: A Kid Wants to Ride my Dog.
[0:30] Michael Fell: Welcome back, everyone! I'm Michael Fell.
[0:50] Diego F. Salinas: And I'm Diego F. Salinas.
[1:10] Alex Stompoly: And I'm Alex Stompoly.
[1:30] Michael Fell: We're here to chat about some fun stuff today.
[1:50] Diego F. Salinas: Yeah, we have a lot to cover, including some of our personal lives outside of D&D.
[2:10] Alex Stompoly: It's always nice to take a break and talk about other things.
[2:30] Michael Fell: So, let's dive in!
[2:50] Diego F. Salinas: I've been contemplating my wardrobe lately.
[3:10] Alex Stompoly: Oh really? What’s going on with that?
[3:30] Michael Fell: I’ve been making dog appearances in the neighborhood.
[3:50] Diego F. Salinas: Your dog is quite the celebrity, isn’t he?
[4:10] Michael Fell: Yeah, the kids around here want to ride him!
[4:30] Alex Stompoly: That’s hilarious!
[4:50] Diego F. Salinas: I can just imagine a kid trying to hop on your dog.
[5:10] Michael Fell: It’s a big dog, so I guess it’s understandable.
[5:30] Alex Stompoly: What else have you been up to, Diego?
[5:50] Diego F. Salinas: I’ve been thinking about going to more drag shows.
[6:10] Michael Fell: That sounds like a blast!
[6:30] Alex Stompoly: I love drag shows! They’re so much fun.
[6:58] Michael Fell: And what about you, Stomp?
[7:26] Alex Stompoly: I’ve been recording some tunes lately.
[7:54] Diego F. Salinas: That’s awesome! What kind of music?
[8:22] Alex Stompoly: A little bit of everything, really. Just experimenting.
[8:50] Michael Fell: That’s the best way to find your sound.
[9:18] Diego F. Salinas: For sure!
[9:46] Michael Fell: So, what makes your brains tick, guys?
[10:14] Alex Stompoly: I think about a lot of random things, honestly.
[10:42] Diego F. Salinas: Same here! It’s all over the place.
[11:08] Michael Fell: We should definitely explore that more.
[11:36] Alex Stompoly: Absolutely!
[12:04] Diego F. Salinas: Let’s keep the conversation going!
[12:09] Alex Stompoly: So Matchbox Twenty and Everclear with Lifehouse opening, and I was like, well, I gotta get... It's kind of funny, inner child. Well, you know, you think like our grandparents, like what the oldies were, and there's a distinct sound what our parents had. And like when, like fast-forward to us, like, you know, we're in our twilight years, like Sister Hazel. I don't want to fucking hear you. Imagine our grandkids come over to visit, and I'm just blasting "Abracadabra," and they're like, what is this? I'm like, this is what we got down to, leave me alone. I'm gonna be like, this is called Blues Traveler, children. Okay? I watched a video of that motherfucker hammer on a mouth harp. It is ridiculous. You win. It was like... There is an actual, like, mouth harp.
[12:54] Diego F. Salinas: The thing Snoopy played.
[12:56] Alex Stompoly: Yeah, yeah. This was made... Love you guys, not remember Snoopy from the Peanuts?
[13:01] Michael Fell: Yeah.
[13:05] Alex Stompoly: My sister folks, those you can cut your lip pretty good, hit your teeth. I tried earnestly to get good at it for a while. Like I bought, I like spent like $30, which is about as much as you can spend on a job, different pitches.
[13:17] Diego F. Salinas: No, no, it was just like really good material, I guess.
[13:20] Alex Stompoly: And you're just twanging. What you're doing is you're playing, ready? Hang on for this sentence. What you're using is the back of your throat. You're opening and closing the back of your throat to like manipulate the tone. It's essentially, essentially, you're turning your unit into like a cave and like blowing.
[13:44] Diego F. Salinas: You gotta put your diaphragm in between my lips and see if I can...
[13:49] Alex Stompoly: All things that make sense.
[13:52] Diego F. Salinas: Yeah, yeah. So that's what you're doing, like a clown, clown, clown. But like it's hard, and like the hardest thing is like, yeah, you're just flapping metal against your lips. I never tried to make out with anybody with braces, or rather nobody with braces ever wanted to make out with me back in the day, but I imagine that's what it felt like.
[14:14] Michael Fell: Braces? I had braces, but it was before I could make out. Fame. I wasn't, I was legally not allowed.
[14:20] Alex Stompoly: The courts had ruled I had to wait. Can't make out, court order.
[14:28] Diego F. Salinas: Going back to kind of the initial question, yeah, what are we doing that isn't like Dungeons and Dragons related? Making out with people with braces.
[14:35] Alex Stompoly: Adult braces.
[14:39] Michael Fell: I've just been kind of... Things are kind of heating up and winding down here in New York. I'm kind of just looking around my apartment being like, fuck, I gotta take all this shit back to me, but back to party years' worth of bullshit.
[14:52] Diego F. Salinas: Yeah, most a lot of like memorabilia and stuff from like going out and about, like yeah. And like, but it is kind of like looking and seeing like whatever accumulated over the past year being here in New York working here.
[15:06] Alex Stompoly: But wait, hold on. What do you got?
[15:08] Michael Fell: Well, I mean, I got a pretty rock. I have the mask from Sleep No More. I have just entirely not enough playbills, but too many from this show.
[15:16] Diego F. Salinas: Sure, all the variations.
[15:18] Michael Fell: Yeah, all the variations of it. Just like a lot of little knickknacks. I'm like one of the biggest things, like a couple months ago when I moved into my Washington Heights apartment was that I wanted to put stuff up on the walls because I felt too much like a serial killer.
[15:27] Alex Stompoly: Sure, mostly just a lot of like Taxi Driver in it.
[15:30] Michael Fell: Yeah, my sister-in-law gave me like a D20 rug for Christmas. I have that on the floor, but now I'm thinking like, how the fuck am I gonna get this back to Chicago? Jam it in a suitcase. All right, I think I'm gonna have to just ship stuff. Like I'm accumulating boxes. I'm kind of like visualizing and strategizing, but it is like, wow, like a year of stuff. Also, Stomp and I've talked about this a lot. I am sick of my clothes.
[16:05] Alex Stompoly: Oh, I bet. So sick of...
[16:07] Michael Fell: Wearing the same outfit since you met us a year ago.
[16:10] Alex Stompoly: Oh, yeah. Oh, there's nothing I...
[16:15] Michael Fell: Every... You wore like a hoodie. I hadn't seen a couple weeks ago, and I was like...
[16:23] Alex Stompoly: You were like, I lost this.
[16:27] Michael Fell: And I cannot stress enough that before we get out on the road, I am throwing everything away and starting fresh.
[16:32] Diego F. Salinas: Just sketch more.
[16:34] Michael Fell: More? No, I don't. And I know I've got stuff in storage still because I only brought the two suitcases. I don't even want that. I don't want that either. I'm gonna take the last paycheck this place gives me before we go on a little bit of a break and just ruin a TJ Maxx.
[16:49] Alex Stompoly: Hell yeah. You realize like how much you don't need, like, 'cause again, I came out here with a suitcase of clothes and like underwear and shit like...
[17:00] Michael Fell: Sure, you sure have had clothes on the whole time.
[17:04] Alex Stompoly: Yeah, I have had clothes on.
[17:09] Michael Fell: Most of it, honestly, I wear. But that's the thing too, is like I wear the clothes to the theater just to change and get into a costume and then go change back and go home. Is it like, do I need to wash this? I just wore it for like 45 minutes. I'd like to see like a timed event diagram.
[17:21] Diego F. Salinas: That's actually like the time you've spent in your own clothes versus the time you've spent wearing...
[17:27] Alex Stompoly: Like that one green t-shirt.
[17:30] Michael Fell: Yeah.
[17:31] Diego F. Salinas: Your knees into... Well, the other one was for special occasions.
[17:38] Alex Stompoly: That'd be weird to like, yeah.
[17:40] Michael Fell: Actually, how much time you spent in this building versus... Especially over the summer when my apartment was literally rotting and didn't have internet, and I would come to the theater like always noon. Yeah, and I would... Because we had a little TV and a Roku here, I would sit in the dressing room and I would just sit there on the floor watching TV for six hours until people arrived to like do the show in the evening. And I did that entirely too much.
[18:10] Diego F. Salinas: This is before the soft room.
[18:12] Michael Fell: This was, yeah, this was before like the hard launch of the soft room, like when we were still...
[18:19] Alex Stompoly: Oh.
[18:21] Michael Fell: Yeah, yeah, it wasn't as comfy as it was now, so it was on that crash mat, which used to be my mattress.
[18:29] Diego F. Salinas: Crash mat, y'all.
[18:30] Michael Fell: But we bought, we asked, I think on like day three or four, Maddie was like, "Hey, could we get a crash mat so that we could like practice hurling ourselves at each other?" And the...
[18:39] Alex Stompoly: It's gotta go on tour with us. Like we had this, it's our emotional support crash mat at this point.
[18:44] Diego F. Salinas: I love that.
[18:45] Michael Fell: I love that mat, and I always love when we do stunt time right before house opens so I can see a plethora of things that will never make the official movie release of TST.
[18:54] Alex Stompoly: Let's try this one, this one, this one, this one, and we roll through like eight of them, and then the show happens and none of them have ever been seen. I go, like there is a Maddie and Will have developed their own like a floor routine.
[19:01] Diego F. Salinas: Let it be version.
[19:08] Michael Fell: Is a floor... It's a 15-minute floor.
[19:15] Alex Stompoly: Yeah, they're doing like... Is there jazz? Is there like gymnastic dancing?
[19:20] Diego F. Salinas: No, is there couples rhythmic gymnastics? Like, you know how there's ice...
[19:23] Michael Fell: Ice dancing.
[19:26] Alex Stompoly: Gym... Gym dance, dance nasty.
[19:31] Michael Fell: That now we're back to dance nasty with Billy Blanks.
[19:34] Diego F. Salinas: Yeah, that's what 90s workout video if ever there was. You know, I actually, when I took the show to Australia and directed there, I also got a crash mat for them.
[19:44] Michael Fell: Entirely almost untouched.
[19:47] Diego F. Salinas: It is pro... It is in pristine condition. So funny. Also, this crash mat gave birth to Tekki La Lorde.
[19:54] Michael Fell: Oh, yeah.
[19:58] Diego F. Salinas: Within moments, folks, if you can imagine it's... Oh my, we've all known each other for four...
[20:02] Michael Fell: But is that Tekki La Lorde is the box for...
[20:04] Diego F. Salinas: Within moments of achieving the crash mat from the cardboard box, it is anthropomorphized almost immediately with some sharpies and armholes, and Maddie is inside of it becoming a horrible monstrosity. Their pictures, I can go back if I never played Mario on like N64.
[20:18] Michael Fell: It's the cinder block.
[20:24] Diego F. Salinas: Yeah, perfect. It's very...
[20:26] Michael Fell: What are they called? Plomps?
[20:28] Diego F. Salinas: Womps. You ground pound their back and they explode. Yeah, that happens for Maddie to a ground pound this plump.
[20:34] Michael Fell: I'm very doodle.
[20:37] Diego F. Salinas: Some ground pounding plomps on stage allowed to see that.
[20:46] Alex Stompoly: Michael, you doing anything to not be here?
[20:53] Michael Fell: What am I doing to not be here? I... God, am I? Yeah, my dog has created a small fan group, right? So on my block, everyone on my block, all the little kids yes flocked to my dog. And one of their birthdays is coming up, so now like Arnold's gonna be like, instead of them getting an entertainment like a Spider-Man or like a clown, they're getting an Arnold, my dog, who is gonna dress up and be like the feature of this party.
[21:15] Diego F. Salinas: Stop.
[21:18] Michael Fell: Yeah, like so like they have requested of a request of a commissioned you or not all my neighbors.
[21:24] Alex Stompoly: You're just bringing...
[21:26] Michael Fell: I'm not putting anything...
[21:28] Diego F. Salinas: Ever heard? 'Cause they 'cause he refuses to do it. I've tried many times.
[21:33] Michael Fell: That's about my dog. Also refuses. He won a dog with sunglasses on is maybe my favorite thing on the planet. That dog with sunglasses, baby with sunglasses. Yeah, good. He... But so he'll be like, I hope you kind of riding the kid. This kid really wants to ride Arnold. It's like really wants to get on him and ride him like a horse, and he almost could, but Arnold, I mean again, Arnold won't tolerate it, but like wait, he could possibly do it. Maybe I'll train...
[22:08] Diego F. Salinas: How old?
[22:11] Michael Fell: Tape a Barbie to it and then...
[22:19] Diego F. Salinas: Then I'll bungee cord a Cabbage Patch kid to him, and then the saddle, the final test is a carton of loose eggs.
[22:22] Michael Fell: I mean, he'll toss you off. Have you ever... Have you ever given Arnold an egg? Have you ever seen dogs just know how to gently hold that in their mouth?
[22:25] Diego F. Salinas: Yes.
[22:28] Michael Fell: I've never done it, but he would be gentle. I think he'd be very...
[22:32] Diego F. Salinas: With it and not break it. Well, I want to test my dumb fuck dog. Yes.
[22:34] Michael Fell: Have you done this with your dog? This is a fucked-up thing to do. Take the dog to the big park, say it into this microphone on the internet.
[22:40] Diego F. Salinas: It's not like cruel necessarily. What you do is you get a basement...
[22:44] Michael Fell: A ritual circle.
[22:47] Diego F. Salinas: Middle of a park, you have the dog sit in the middle, and then Cody and I want to split the difference, walk, you know, 15 paces away, and then both call for the dog.
[22:54] Michael Fell: My wife doesn't want to get her ass whipped. My parents said that to me, my sister after the divorce.
[23:11] Diego F. Salinas: They got a basement, they made a ritual circle.
[23:15] Michael Fell: And then they bungee corded a Cabbage Patch, and that's how I got pimped out on a birthday party.
[23:25] Alex Stompoly: What are you doing for your birthday party, little Timmy? Oh, I'm gonna ground pound a stop.
[23:31] Diego F. Salinas: I don't like that. This joke started with a little Timmy. You can be like Big Reggie. What's going on?
[23:36] Michael Fell: There's gonna be someone over the age of 25.
[23:38] Diego F. Salinas: I haven't asked it. Hey Diego, what are you doing for your birthday party, big guy? Oh, I've got a dog coming.
[23:53] Michael Fell: If you like, if you like, you know, you can get like a petting zoo for like kids.
[23:57] Diego F. Salinas: Yeah, just like rent like seven Labradors. This is ours. This is ours. This is the break man is what we do.
[24:08] Michael Fell: Not a puppy, not a mill, just a puppy rental service. We call it like Puppy Puddle or something, and then...
[24:16] Michael Fell: Rent-a-Pub. Yeah, Rent-a-Pub. No, I think that has other connotations.
[24:20] Diego F. Salinas: Well, so we, so funny enough, this was actually a fundraising thing that my fraternity did on my college campus. During finals week, we would, the local rescue shelter, Route 66, would come and we would facilitate puppy playtime on like the quad.
[24:36] Alex Stompoly: Oh, that's fun. Wait, you lived off Route 66 and called it Route and not Root?
[24:41] Michael Fell: Okay, first of all, I'm from the upper echelon of Missouri.
[24:43] Diego F. Salinas: Did you get your kicks?
[24:44] Michael Fell: Me. I know the vowels. But no, it was, they would come to the quad and like, we would just like, they were all rescue animals, so they could be adopted, but people would pay, students would pay to like hang out for like an hour and stuff. And all the proceeds went right back to the...
[25:01] Alex Stompoly: That would be so, just baked on the quad, petting dogs.
[25:06] Michael Fell: I would love to just go to my university because I like, they don't ever check to see who belongs at a university or not.
[25:13] Diego F. Salinas: Well, especially if you're walking around, like you would be walking around like someone who belonged there because you belong there.
[25:19] Michael Fell: I'd fit in. I'd just fucking post up and not give a fuck and just vibe. That would be nice.
[25:24] Diego F. Salinas: I mean, I have a fraternity house. That's encouraged. I could go, but there's always some weird old dudes like, back in my day.
[25:32] Michael Fell: Honestly, right now, like this week, Columbia. Go do that at Columbia. It's the most beautiful campus in the city. Everything's beautiful. It's just great to sit around and just pretend, just sit in a beautiful place. It's like green in Manhattan.
[25:47] Diego F. Salinas: It's like you don't get tear gassed.
[25:48] Michael Fell: I was about to say.
[25:49] Diego F. Salinas: Actually, now that I see your faces, I realize what I'm actually saying.
[25:53] Michael Fell: Well, we were all sad for like the idea of like, Michael's correct. It is gorgeous, unfortunately.
[26:00] Alex Stompoly: You know, you can do the same thing at NYU.
[26:01] Michael Fell: Yep.
[26:02] Alex Stompoly: No, you can't.
[26:02] Michael Fell: No, you can't.
[26:03] Diego F. Salinas: Okay, fine.
[26:04] Alex Stompoly: No way.
[26:05] Michael Fell: Sheepsmead is pretty nice.
[26:06] Diego F. Salinas: No.
[26:06] Alex Stompoly: Crack an algebra book in the middle of a park with a bunch of gay men and speedos. They will come flocking to you.
[26:11] Michael Fell: That one was mad.
[26:11] Alex Stompoly: Oh my god.
[26:15] Michael Fell: A minus B plus or minus a square root.
[26:17] Diego F. Salinas: We love it.
[26:20] Michael Fell: I'm sorry.
[26:20] Alex Stompoly: I'm sorry if that was a horrible impression.
[26:26] Michael Fell: I'm offended.
[26:26] Alex Stompoly: I'll be leaving.
[26:27] Michael Fell: So far off.
[26:28] Alex Stompoly: My dog's waiting for me outside.
[26:29] Michael Fell: I'll be riding him back home to Harlem.
[26:32] Diego F. Salinas: Somebody bungee cord this algebra book to the back of a dog.
[26:37] Murray: What do you do, Murray?
[26:38] Michael Fell: Oh, to stave off the madness, the non-D&D madness.
[26:43] Murray: I mean, I play a lot of guitar. I play a lot of like, I just happily play like whatever in my room, like not to be presented to anybody. And then I like make recordings like people would draw. Like, I'll just be thinking about a song or something. I'll bring one up and I'll learn a song and I'll play it. And then I'll just make my own weird little recording of it in just GarageBand.
[27:05] Murray: Like I did. I was my friend and I were sending each other Rod Stewart memes back and forth the other day, and I actually had an afternoon off and I got a little high and then I learned how to play Maggie Mae. And then I made the weirdest recording of Maggie. I put actually, you know what? I put it in the discord because I put it in the like back of the napkin channel in our discord because it was like a doodle. And I was like, yeah, here you go. And I've been listening to it. And it's I've got like a playlist of just like dad rock cover songs just on my computer. It's great.
[27:33] Diego F. Salinas: We were driving to Philadelphia and after I listened to about the third one, Meredith was like, can we stop listening to you sing classic rock songs?
[27:41] Murray: And I was like, fine, nerd.
[27:44] Alex Stompoly: I love that you describe it this way. I think I talk about different kinds of performance art that similar in a similar way where really any performance practice or any practice of art, I liken it to get like someone who is sketching like a visual artist. Tons of doodles and sketches all the time. And it's like if you're writing a screenplay, if you're performing in something, if you're creating your own work, if you should be doing that as well, like you just get up, like you burn it. Like I'm going to make something that I like want to record and then present.
[28:15] Alex Stompoly: Like I'm good at it because I'm locked in. I'm recording music all the time. People are really product oriented. I think initially it's like they imagine what they're going to present and it's like that is just that can really stifle you. It's like make a thing. You're sketching. You're doing decide whether you want to sell it or not.
[28:30] Murray: Exactly. It's like people who's like, I don't know how to write. Well, then like literally read a paragraph from an artist, like an author. You Hamilton was the thing he was goofing around with.
[28:38] Alex Stompoly: Exactly.
[28:39] Murray: Yeah, like reading a book and then just started rapping about it to himself.
[28:44] Diego F. Salinas: I mean, that's and then he did it at Barack Obama and he was like, do that more.
[28:48] Murray: Yeah.
[28:48] Alex Stompoly: And that's like great artists of like your did that. They got started by copying other things, literally copying them.
[28:57] Murray: Do it.
[28:57] Alex Stompoly: 2014.
[28:57] Murray: Don't just share it.
[29:00] Alex Stompoly: Your.
[29:00] Murray: I think a lot of that kind of not fell to the wayside, but I think it's lost in what we have kind of cultivated now in the climate of such obtainable, readily available media that's always like changing.
[29:11] Diego F. Salinas: Like I will not like.
[29:14] Alex Stompoly: Well, you got to feed the algorithm now, too, right?
[29:16] Murray: That's the gag is that like back in the day, like people were uploading YouTube videos that were genuinely like nonsensical. They were just getting together with their friends and like recording something and like throwing it up there. And then we found like that was like the opening of the door of like meme culture and things becoming funny and getting shared.
[29:30] Diego F. Salinas: And then when that started picking up, it wasn't just like a viral moment. Everyone was making for a viral moment.
[29:36] Murray: And that is just you're chasing it.
[29:38] Diego F. Salinas: Maddening is so that's why I'm not. I'm not great at TikTok. I don't I can't. I can't turn it out like that, but I'm decent at it by like when I have something to say every couple of weeks, I like I'm like, oh, I'm in I'm experiencing something that I think will be relatable and that I try to say it in an entertaining way.
[29:56] Murray: And then, yeah, I've had a couple of just like pop off like a little bit. But I can't I can't. I can't force that.
[30:03] Diego F. Salinas: I can't actively.
[30:04] Murray: I'm not good at doing doodles of like that.
[30:08] Alex Stompoly: Right.
[30:09] Diego F. Salinas: And I think there's there's a thing. Nowadays, so many, especially like talking about like short form video, like the doodle is so public now.
[30:14] Alex Stompoly: Yes, you post the doodle because you do live on Twitter.
[30:20] Diego F. Salinas: Exactly.
[30:20] Alex Stompoly: Yeah, like it.
[30:22] Diego F. Salinas: You don't know.
[30:24] Alex Stompoly: It'll sit in your drafts for a while, but then eventually it's going to get posted.
[30:27] Diego F. Salinas: And well, you're going to have a day when you need to make something and you're not going to be inspired. You know, just be like, well, have this used to not care if the doodle was rough. And now the doodle almost has to be its own product, too.
[30:35] Alex Stompoly: Like it's like, yeah, I just know.
[30:39] Diego F. Salinas: Yeah.
[30:40] Alex Stompoly: I mean, it's weird.
[30:41] Diego F. Salinas: Speaking of doodling and like different art forms, like in the space that we work in, like improv and comedy and like that, like playing all these portmanteau games or even just like hearing someone say something weird on the on the train, on the subway.
[30:54] Alex Stompoly: And then suddenly I'm like, you said, you know, pondering orb. How about pondering storb? You know, it's like out of the million jokes that you hear come out of my mouth. There's like nine million that don't make it past like a quality check.
[31:03] Diego F. Salinas: They hit the filter.
[31:08] Alex Stompoly: Yeah. Not that the filter is particularly good or fine.
[31:12] Diego F. Salinas: It's like there is like there is a filter.
[31:15] Murray: People ask me like, oh, how do you like think so fast for like in their show? Like, how do you can you do this at the other? It's like it's like never fucking stop.
[31:22] Michael Fell: I can't stop.
[31:23] Murray: I hear something and it's the word association immediately kicks off. And sometimes it's culminates in something worth saying out loud. Most of the time I just giggle to myself.
[31:33] Diego F. Salinas: And the worst thing is when someone says, what are you laughing at? It's like you couldn't.
[31:35] Michael Fell: I can't explain this to you.
[31:37] Diego F. Salinas: It won't be.
[31:38] Michael Fell: You said sink faucet and that got me on a whole Farrow faucet or whatever.
[31:42] Diego F. Salinas: And then now I'm visualizing Farrow Faucet with like a faucet.
[31:47] Michael Fell: Well, and then we went to Farrow Faucet.
[31:48] Diego F. Salinas: And so now Egypt looks real different all of a sudden.
[31:51] Michael Fell: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[31:52] Diego F. Salinas: And now I'm in Farrow Faucet.
[31:53] Michael Fell: And so now I'm thinking about Bob Faucet.
[31:56] Diego F. Salinas: Like eating the grain, the Farrow grain.
[31:58] Michael Fell: I'm thinking like Farrow flu.
[32:00] Diego F. Salinas: Farrow, Farrow Faucet.
[32:02] Michael Fell: Me and Farrow Faucet.
[32:04] Diego F. Salinas: I see where we're at now.
[32:05] Michael Fell: Yeah, yeah.
[32:07] Diego F. Salinas: And this is literally the thing we just did.
[32:11] Alex Stompoly: But like, that's what's going on in all of our heads all the time.
[32:14] Diego F. Salinas: Imagine all of us are just different parts of like one brain put together like that is exactly it's just bouncing off in the head.
[32:20] Michael Fell: There's an amazing there's these Matt Gourley is this like really incredible podcaster and comedian who works with Conan O'Brien a bunch.
[32:28] Diego F. Salinas: And he has this incredible show from early Internet called Super Ego.
[32:33] Michael Fell: It's like a sketch audio sketch show. You listen to my man. He has another podcast called Pistol Shrimps where he and his best friend Mark McConville live call women's rec league basketball games.
[32:45] Diego F. Salinas: They're just sitting there and they do that.
[32:46] Michael Fell: I want to do that so bad.
[32:47] Diego F. Salinas: It's in neither of them know anything about basketball.
[32:49] Michael Fell: And it is it is this that we're doing now.
[32:51] Diego F. Salinas: It's them just free dumping and free word associating and doing portmanteaus and doing spoonerisms of anything that comes to mind.
[32:58] Michael Fell: And it's just a pure unfiltered raw brain chaos.
[33:03] Diego F. Salinas: And it's brilliant.
[33:04] Michael Fell: I mean, unlistenable for, I think, most people.
[33:06] Diego F. Salinas: But for me, it's like I'm not alone.
[33:09] Michael Fell: Yeah, someone else like this.
[33:10] Diego F. Salinas: Do it.
[33:11] Michael Fell: Don't go nuts.
[33:12] Diego F. Salinas: That's also what Twitch was.
[33:14] Michael Fell: I've wanted to start doing this.
[33:15] Diego F. Salinas: Listen, if anybody wants to during anything they thought when Twitch was being developed, Twitch is a streaming.
[33:22] Michael Fell: Yes.
[33:22] Diego F. Salinas: When Twitch was being developed, what they thought they were going to use it for was sports.
[33:25] Michael Fell: It got really developed for like live sports calling.
[33:30] Diego F. Salinas: The idea was like, oh, this is a way for people to like somebody can just broadcast a high school football game using this and it'll be really easy or we can have color commentators on things.
[33:40] Michael Fell: And I've like I keep wanting to do that.
[33:42] Diego F. Salinas: Like I feel like I know I'll just decide to like be my own weird Tennessee Titans broadcaster one year.
[33:49] Michael Fell: They can just just talk.
[33:50] Diego F. Salinas: It's just so there's two interesting just me and Diego watching football, talking shit so that you don't have to be by yourself, you know, like a podcast.
[33:57] Michael Fell: Yeah.
[33:57] Diego F. Salinas: So it's it's brilliant.
[33:59] Michael Fell: It's it's very cool.
[34:00] Diego F. Salinas: Pistol shrimp also is a kick ass name for literally anything.
[34:03] Michael Fell: Oh, for anything.
[34:04] Diego F. Salinas: And that that thing that we just did, Diego, you were just talking about.
[34:06] Michael Fell: We that was in the improv troupe that I was a part of and like my early training.
[34:10] Diego F. Salinas: It was our A to C exercise with the gag where you like you sat there and you someone would give you the topic and then you would sit there and go, this makes me think of this, which makes me think of this.
[34:19] Michael Fell: And so then you would get to the and you would you would walk your process out loud so people could hear you like, OK, Fawcett got me to Farrah Fawcett, which gets me to Farrah Fawcett.
[34:28] Diego F. Salinas: But then you get to the point where someone would just give you an A and you were toward the C immediately to walk to get you out of the like judgment phase and also to be able to take that audience suggestion and go much further than their limited suggestion was ever going to give you.
[34:40] Alex Stompoly: It's it's the cockney rhyming slang, right?
[34:45] Diego F. Salinas: That shit cockney rhyming slang is wild because it is.
[34:48] Michael Fell: It's just A to C.
[34:49] Diego F. Salinas: Yeah, I mean, that's one of the most challenging things to like for folks who are just starting out to improvise is like you hear the suggestion of like potato sack and it's like, here you are, sir, your potatoes.
[35:00] Michael Fell: And it's like something I get or even like, let's have a welcome to field day or the father son race or whatever.
[35:05] Diego F. Salinas: Like it's a I mean, even that's already like your abstract already a little bit more.
[35:09] Michael Fell: Yeah.
[35:10] Diego F. Salinas: Potato sack made you think of sack race. It made you think of field day.
[35:13] Murray: That's one of the things I'm really thankful about.
[35:15] Diego F. Salinas: As opposed to like some a football, a potato tackling the quarterback.
[35:20] Michael Fell: Yeah, right.
[35:21] Murray: A potato sack.
[35:22] Diego F. Salinas: It's one of the things I'm very thankful about with this show is that as close as we get to kind of having to do because you find a lot of times when you get suggestions from people, they the suggestion giver is trying to be funny.
[35:34] Michael Fell: It's trying to do the joke for you.
[35:35] Diego F. Salinas: Oh, Lord.
[35:36] Michael Fell: Oh, Lord, the names.
[35:37] Diego F. Salinas: Oh, the naming of.
[35:38] Michael Fell: But thankfully, that's all that we really knock on the door and it's so easy to just like take the name and just disappear like you do that all the time.
[35:44] Diego F. Salinas: We're like somebody will say because dear audience members of the place.
[35:55] Alex Stompoly: This is a public service.
[35:57] Michael Fell: I can't tell you how often the goddamn bartender is named Bob or Steve or Jim.
[36:05] Diego F. Salinas: The most subversive thing you can do when giving us a name in the context of the show is to give us an actually interesting or like just say a book wild thing like Bob.
[36:14] Michael Fell: And then that becomes a joke.
[36:16] Diego F. Salinas: But like, God, I want to kiss the people that are like his name is Taco Bell.
[36:21] Michael Fell: And you're like, fuck, yes.
[36:22] Diego F. Salinas: Yes. That gives us so much more because Bob, I have.
[36:25] Diego F. Salinas: So, I was thinking about the last time we were at Stage 42, and how we were all just kind of hanging out and having a good time.
[36:55] Alex Stompoly: Yeah, it’s been a wild ride, hasn’t it? I mean, we’ve had some great moments here.
[37:25] Diego F. Salinas: Absolutely! And it’s interesting to reflect on what we’ve all been up to outside of D&D.
[37:55] Alex Stompoly: Right? Like, I’ve been trying to figure out my wardrobe lately. It’s a whole thing.
[38:02] Diego F. Salinas: Oh, I can relate to that. I’ve been contemplating my own style choices too.
[38:09] Alex Stompoly: It’s tough! You want to look good but also feel comfortable.
[38:16] Diego F. Salinas: Exactly! And then there’s Michael with his dog, who’s basically a celebrity in the neighborhood.
[38:23] Alex Stompoly: I know, right? Kids wanting to ride him is just hilarious.
[38:30] Diego F. Salinas: It’s so funny! I mean, he’s a big dog, but still, it’s wild to think about.
[38:37] Alex Stompoly: And then there’s Murray, who’s been busy recording tunes.
[38:44] Diego F. Salinas: Yes! I can’t wait to hear what he’s been working on.
[38:52] Alex Stompoly: It’s going to be great. We should definitely support him.
[39:01] Diego F. Salinas: For sure! And speaking of support, I’ve been thinking about how we all tick differently.
[39:08] Alex Stompoly: That’s true! Everyone has their own unique way of processing things.
[39:16] Diego F. Salinas: And that’s what makes our group dynamic so interesting.
[39:24] Alex Stompoly: Definitely! Plus, the birth of Tekki La Lorde has been a highlight.
[39:32] Diego F. Salinas: Oh, for sure! That character has brought so much fun to the table.
[39:40] Alex Stompoly: I love how creative we can get with our characters.
[39:48] Diego F. Salinas: It really shows how much we enjoy this game and each other’s company.
[39:56] Alex Stompoly: Exactly! And it’s nice to have these moments where we can just chat.
[40:04] Diego F. Salinas: Agreed! It’s a great way to unwind and connect.
[40:12] Alex Stompoly: Plus, we can share some of those stressful childhood board game stories.
[40:20] Diego F. Salinas: Oh man, those were the days!
[40:28] Alex Stompoly: Right? The competitiveness was real back then.
[40:36] Diego F. Salinas: It really was! I remember some epic battles over Monopoly.
[40:44] Alex Stompoly: Same! And the arguments that ensued were legendary.
[40:52] Diego F. Salinas: It’s funny how those moments stick with you.
[41:00] Alex Stompoly: They really do! It’s all part of growing up.
[41:08] Diego F. Salinas: And now we get to create new memories together.
[41:16] Alex Stompoly: Absolutely! Here’s to many more adventures ahead.
[41:24] Diego F. Salinas: Cheers to that!

[42:36] Alex Stompoly: Always!
[42:44] Diego F. Salinas: That’s the key to a great experience.
[42:52] Alex Stompoly: Couldn’t agree more!
[43:00] Diego F. Salinas: Here’s to more laughs and good times.
[43:08] Alex Stompoly: Cheers to that!
