[3:52] Aaron J. Albano: So I did Mary Poppins back in...

[3:56] Kevin Jager: He really has been in every show.

[4:01] Bryan Plosky: Talk about your experience being in the show during the anniversary.

[4:04] Aaron J. Albano: It was amazing. It was definitely... It's one of those things that leading up to it is kind of a nightmare because we have a ton of rehearsal, everybody's coming in, but I feel like... I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I feel like I've been in shows where events like this had happened before. It's fascinating because I had never been in Aladdin before. By the time the 10-month, the 10-year had happened, I think I was maybe five months into the show, so I was very freshman at that point. But seeing all of these people, because they had a big smorgasbord of alums come back, it was a whole fun thing where they were bringing back principals to do parts of the show, and they brought a ton of the original cast to do Friend Like Me, and it was...

[4:54] Kimberly: So that night was kind of piecemeal, where once you got to that part of the song, this person would come in like that.

[5:01] Aaron J. Albano: Yeah, 100%.

[5:02] Kevin Jager: That's very cool.

[5:03] Aaron J. Albano: Were they all costume?

[5:04] Bryan Plosky: What a fun audience to be in.

[5:05] Aaron J. Albano: So it still kept the show going, but it was just different.

[5:08] Kimberly: They were just like...

[5:09] Aaron J. Albano: Swapping Steve Doe's numbers.

[5:13] Bryan Plosky: So it was like, hey, Mr. Producer version of Aladdin. How late did the show run by for applause and laughter?

[5:17] Aaron J. Albano: I mean, it was definitely a longer show where we knew that was going to be.

[5:20] Kimberly: Oh, I didn't realize that they did. That's so cool.

[5:21] Aaron J. Albano: Oh yeah, no, no. For instance, perfect example, our current Jasmine, Sonia Balsara, would finish her reveal in the marketplace. So she would finish that scene with the current Aladdin. They would be chased off by the guards, run off, set move change to the roof section so they could have that scene, the million mile scene. They would re-enter, and Michael Molyekel, who was our current Aladdin, would run on with Courtney Reed.

[5:50] Kimberly: That's so cool.

[5:51] Aaron J. Albano: And so then this sort of big reveal of like, are we sure we lost them? And it's like Courtney, and the audience loses their mind.

[6:00] Kimberly: That's so cool.

[6:01] Aaron J. Albano: Or another scene where they start with Dennis Stowe, our current Jafar, and so it's a scene where they're going to get Aladdin to go into the Cave of Wonders. And so he has to hide himself and pretend that he's like this old man. So he puts a sheet over him. They do the change behind a table, behind a building, and then out pops when the voice has changed. So you can tell the audience is like, something's going on. And so the change happens there.

[6:39] Bryan Plosky: Jonathan Freeman, the original Jafar, is saying the lines to which everyone's like, what's happening?

[6:44] Aaron J. Albano: Like the original, original, original Jafar.

[6:46] Kimberly: Yeah, the original Jafar.

[6:49] Aaron J. Albano: Yeah, and then when he pulls off the sheet, it's Jonathan Freeman.

[6:52] Kimberly: That's so cool.

[6:53] Aaron J. Albano: Yeah, and so, and of course, everyone loses their mind again.

[6:56] Kevin Jager: Was this just like...

[6:57] Aaron J. Albano: Do you think anyone in the audience was like, what's happening on here?

[7:00] Aaron J. Albano: Oh, my favorite thing-

[7:01] Kevin Jager: Like didn't know that it was the 20th anniversary show?

[7:03] Aaron J. Albano: I mean, definitely some of-

[7:05] Kevin Jager: Yeah, the 10th, yeah.

[7:07] Aaron J. Albano: Friend of the show, Kara Lindsay was there with, and this was when she brought Emerson for the first time. This was like, she brought Emerson. Emerson's in like the third row, second row. He doesn't know any of these people. But everyone loses their mind and he's like clapping along with everybody because-

[7:24] Kevin Jager: Most of the people in that audience probably knew what they were in for.

[7:27] Aaron J. Albano: Oh, yes.

[7:27] Kevin Jager: And I would say like, would you say like 90% of those tickets sold that night were like friends, family, people who had been in the show?

[7:33] Aaron J. Albano: Oh, nothing was sold that night. It was all invitations. Friends and family.

[7:35] Kevin Jager: It was all invitations, all alum, all like Disney family.

[7:41] Aaron J. Albano: Executives, that's cool. It was like a big in-house night, which was very cool.

[7:44] Bryan Plosky: Oh, I love that.

[7:45] Aaron J. Albano: But like, so leading up to it, it was this interesting like energy of like love and celebration that was actually quite authentic that I had never really felt before. Because you know, like there's the performativity of like, yay. But like, there was this like, seeing all the alums coming back and having rehearsal with them, it was real, like these people really just love being around each other.

[8:13] Kimberly: Is that a Disney thing? Is that an Aladdin thing? Is that just a millennial nostalgia thing? Like, where does that fall?

[8:19] Aaron J. Albano: It may be all of the above, but I would add, I think it's also a Casey thing.

[8:25] Bryan Plosky: Oh.

[8:25] Aaron J. Albano: This is my first show in a Casey Nicholaw show.

[8:28] Kimberly: Oh, really?

[8:29] Aaron J. Albano: Yeah, I've never worked with Casey before. And like, what I've noticed-

[8:33] Kevin Jager: Have you worked with JoJo?

[8:35] Aaron J. Albano: What?

[8:36] Kevin Jager: Oh, I got you.

[8:42] Aaron J. Albano: For all the millennials out there.

[8:45] Kimberly: That was a very niche joke.

[8:49] Aaron J. Albano: But like, no, and I feel like I'm safe in saying this. Like, he does love a certain like familial community vibe when he creates a show. And I think that is definitely, that coupled with sort of the Disney of it, like definitely fed the weekend. Because everyone just loved being there and loved being-

[9:13] Bryan Plosky: That kind of energy is definitely infectious.

[9:15] Aaron J. Albano: On top of the fact that like, I mean, I feel like this might be a little bit of tea, but I feel like the common wisdom or the suspected wisdom was that like, before the pandemic, it was gonna, it was maybe like almost done. Like, Frozen was open. Again, I'm speaking out of turn. There's no fact to this at all. But like-

[9:34] Kevin Jager: But there's a vibe.

[9:35] Aaron J. Albano: Yeah, but then like-

[9:36] Aaron J. Albano: I've heard talks of like, what other shows were going to come from Disney. And like, Disney would have that many on at the same time.

[9:41] Kevin Jager: Yeah, there was all that talk.

[9:43] Aaron J. Albano: But then the pandemic happened. And then the shutdown ended and we all returned. And then Aladdin hit bigger than it actually ever had. And so getting to the 10 year, like there was this energy of like-

[9:59] Bryan Plosky: We did it!

[9:59] Aaron J. Albano: We literally never thought we'd be here for 10 years. And there was a weird, because you know, some other people would be like, oh, we didn't, but we really did. Like, there was this interesting authenticity. And maybe I fell for it also. But it felt like there was this real authentic, like, we really didn't know we'd be here. And the fact that we are is amazing. And we're all just celebrating being here, which is super cool.

[10:23] Kimberly: So leading up to it, did that energy bleed into other performances? Because obviously that 10, that 20 year performance is going to feel a little bit different than just like the, you know, the five before or the five after it because of the audience that is there. In terms of just like tourists and things like that versus like having that like different energy. Did your energy transfer to those other ones? Did it feel like a diamond in the rough? Like, you know what I mean?

[10:51] Aaron J. Albano: No, it definitely did like sort of spill over. The aftershocks of it were definitely there. I mean, I feel like the grace period was like quite long.

[11:01] Kimberly: That's awesome.

[11:01] Aaron J. Albano: Like, I think it was really cool.

[11:03] Kevin Jager: Did some of the, like, did like your actual principal Jasmine, like, forget to do certain scenes in other shows because she didn't have to?

[11:12] Aaron J. Albano: I wish.

[11:25] Kevin Jager: Not on Tuesdays.

[11:26] Aaron J. Albano: It's like every third scene, I would do that.

[11:29] Aaron J. Albano: I only wish. It was, it would have been amazing. But yeah, no, I mean, we were secretly joking. Like when the original cast came back.

[11:38] Aaron J. Albano: Like they'd actually just like be in the show in the original tracks. And we'd be the ones on the like in the aisles.
