[0:00] Andrew: We've got a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.

[0:09] Andrew: There's no rhyme or reason to it, so don't get mad at me.

[0:18] Andrew: Glacket by Glacket, we'll rank everyone to see which song will move closer to spot number one.

[0:26] Andrew: Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week. It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.

[0:35] Andrew: Well, well, well, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.

[0:42] Andrew: Oh, just when you thought the Glacket couldn't get any worse.

[0:45] Andrew: We have some freelance cultural critics here.

[0:48] Abby: Oh gosh, wait, freelance cultural critics? Where does that name, where does that group come from?

[0:54] Alexa: It was a tweet or something, or like a TikTok, and it was like, I'm not a hater, I'm a freelance cultural critic.

[1:00] Alexa: And it was like, oh, well, I know some freelance cultural critics.

[1:04] Abby: And here we are in the middle of cultural, of course, we're in the middle of critiquing.

[1:08] Andrew: Um, let's go around the class. And instead of introducing you, I'm gonna have, right, of course, you introduce yourself. So who, who are the freelance cultural critics?

[1:21] Alexa: Wait, what kind of intro am I doing?

[1:23] Abby: Um, what, what, what are your credits?

[1:25] Alexa: Okay.

[1:26] Alexa: Yeah.

[1:27] Alexa: My credits are, um, Cowboy Glarter from Gleek of the Week podcast.

[1:33] Abby: Oh, I remember that one.

[1:36] Alexa: I hear that people are remembering it, which is crazy.

[1:38] Abby: People are remembering it in a big way.

[1:40] Alexa: I was also, I think my episode with Claudia was called Merrily We Roll Away.

[1:46] Abby: Merrily We Roll Away.

[1:48] Alexa: Right, of course. Um, I was also, my other, um, notable credit is, um, as Gleek Fan Takeover on And That's What You Really Miss podcast.

[2:01] Abby: Gleek Fan Takeover.

[2:03] Alexa: And guess what Abbey's was called? Guess what Abbey's was called?

[2:06] Abby: Gleek Fan Takeover Part Two? Did it even have a part two?

[2:10] Alexa: No, it literally just said Gleek Fan Takeover.

[2:12] Abby: Gleek Fan Takeover.

[2:13] Alexa: Wait, wait, wait.

[2:15] Abby: We were not even named.

[2:17] Alexa: Okay, wait, wait, wait. Alexa, you were Gleek Fan Takeover?

[2:20] Alexa: Uh-huh.

[2:21] Abby: And then Abbey, you were Glee Fan Takeover?

[2:23] Abby: Yes.

[2:24] Alexa: Gleek, I think they're the same.

[2:26] Abby: I was Gleek, she was Glee, trust.

[2:28] Alexa: Oh, okay.

[2:29] Abby: I believe you, honestly.

[2:30] Alexa: On God.

[2:32] Abby: Wow.

[2:32] Abby: They have a lot of fun naming these titles of apps.

[2:36] Alexa: Well, yes.

[2:37] Abby: They have a good time.

[2:39] Alexa: The most recent one of, um, Recovering Glee.

[2:41] Abby: Glee, what was it?

[2:43] Alexa: Uh, oh my God, I want to get it right.

[2:45] Alexa: It was, um,

[2:47] Alexa: Glee.

[2:49] Alexa: We're, of course, talking about the, um, And That's What You Really Miss podcasts.

[2:51] Abby: Uh, my most streamed podcast, of course.

[2:54] Alexa: Might as well.

[2:55] Alexa: It's called Glee vs. Glee with Recovering Glee.

[2:59] Abby: That's us.

[3:00] Alexa: And I'm like, what does this imply?

[3:01] Alexa: What are the cultural implications of Glee vs. Glee?

[3:04] Abby: Well, as a cultural critic, I, I was also intrigued.

[3:09] Abby: And I did.

[3:10] Alexa: Glee vs. Glee is kind of just the glacket, if you think about it.

[3:13] Abby: It really is.

[3:13] Abby: When you come down to the core of it all.

[3:15] Alexa: Yeah.

[3:16] Andrew: Um, well, okay.

[3:19] Andrew: And then, um, Abby, did we have your introduction?

[3:23] Abby: No.

[3:23] Andrew: Does it look like it?

[3:24] Abby: No.

[3:24] Abby: No.

[3:27] Abby: It's no introduction.

[3:28] Abby: It's Abby.

[3:29] Abby: It's, it's, I'm back again.

[3:31] Abby: You can't get rid of me.

[3:32] Abby: I am like the roach that won't go away.

[3:35] Abby: I just come back like a sore, right?

[3:38] Abby: To come with my opinions that people may or may not agree with.

[3:41] Abby: I don't particularly care.

[3:42] Abby: My credits are, I've been on this.

[3:44] Abby: I don't even know how many.

[3:46] Abby: It's been more.

[3:47] Abby: Maybe this is the fifth.

[3:48] Abby: It could be the sixth.

[3:49] Abby: Early hundreds, at least.

[3:50] Alexa: One.

[3:50] Abby: Wow.

[3:51] Abby: This is only my third.

[3:53] Abby: Three, four, five, six.

[3:54] Abby: I haven't been called up.

[3:55] Abby: This is actually six.

[3:56] Abby: I believe this is six.

[3:57] Andrew: Well, the people have been, we talked about this right before starting recording.

[4:01] Andrew: The people have been campaigning for this, this duo, this exact duo that is happening right now to make a comeback.

[4:05] Abby: Because of course, the last episode was Cowboy Glarter.

[4:10] Abby: And also, is anybody, did anybody put the, the, uh,

[4:13] Abby: Did they put together Beyonce's tour starting today?

[4:16] Abby: The day that we're reconvening?

[4:18] Alexa: Yeah.

[4:19] Abby: Yeah, I did.

[4:20] Abby: Nothing is by coincidence.

[4:23] Abby: I want to put it out there too, that I text this to Andrew and Abby monthly.

[4:30] Alexa: Yeah.

[4:30] Alexa: Cowboy Glarter is the, maybe the best podcast episode to like ever be on Spotify and all of the other podcast listening apps.

[4:39] Abby: I'm not a big fan of listening to my own voice.

[4:42] Abby: However, the amount of times that I go back and re-listen to Cowboy Glarter, and then I text them and I'm like, you guys, we're maybe the funniest people on the face of the planet.

[4:51] Alexa: Wait, what?

[4:52] Abby: Okay.

[4:52] Abby: It's been a minute.

[4:53] Abby: I classically can only listen to, uh, the episode twice, once, once live and then once while editing.

[5:00] Andrew: What were like the highlights of this episode?

[5:03] Abby: Um, one thing for me that every single time I'm talking about Artie, asked about Artie, anything, in my head, I hear Abby go, in a world where Alexa is not a fan.

[5:18] Alexa: I literally hear it.

[5:20] Abby: It's perfect.

[5:21] Abby: Um, I made it into the carousel.

[5:23] Abby: I did.

[5:24] Abby: Yeah.

[5:24] Abby: Um, another thing that made it into the carousel was, um, my best friend, my best plus 30.

[5:31] Abby: I talk about that all the time too.

[5:34] Abby: That was like recently brought up, um, in a live stream episode.

[5:39] Abby: Someone, someone like stole, like stole with, with, with love.

[5:42] Abby: Um, that idea that like, it's a plus 30, plus 30, plus 30 minus 10.

[5:46] Alexa: So good.

[5:47] Alexa: Yeah.

[5:47] Abby: Oh, wow.

[5:48] Abby: You should like trademark that.

[5:49] Abby: You're mine.

[5:50] Abby: Um, but no, my best friend from college is doing a, uh, Glee rewatch right now.

[5:55] Abby: And she just watched Lights Out.

[5:58] Abby: And she was like, Sam and Artie, I can't believe they did that.

[6:00] Abby: And I was like, no, like, I, like, they apologized to me.

[6:03] Abby: You have, you have.

[6:04] Abby: And then I like sent the screenshot of the, of the footage that's on Brian Murphy's real official YouTube channel.

[6:10] Alexa: Oh, when, when Sam and Artie apologized.

[6:12] Abby: Were in timeout.

[6:13] Abby: That deleted.

[6:14] Abby: Yeah.

[6:14] Abby: Cause I put, I put them in timeout as a deleted scene.

[6:18] Abby: I think about those things all the time.

[6:19] Abby: It was so, I, now I'm like recalling specifics about this episode and about the carousel specifically.

[6:24] Abby: And I, I'm due for a rewatch of, this was my own creation.

[6:30] Abby: So this is just me gloating.

[6:31] Abby: Um, but, um, the, the 16 carriages will solo from the end of season three.

[6:38] Abby: That every time that the beat comes in, it's a different one of 16 Glee club member.

[6:45] Abby: How many times do I text you guys that?

[6:48] Abby: I text you guys that all the time too.

[6:50] Abby: I was like, was listening to 16 carriages and I can't stop thinking about the cutting to all the faces in the end of season three.

[6:57] Abby: Boom.

[6:57] Abby: Yeah.

[6:58] Abby: Okay.

[6:59] Abby: You know, those TikToks, you know, those TikToks that are, people are like at concerts and like holding up like a fan cam to like whatever song is playing.

[7:06] Abby: I'm going to do that at the Cowboy Carter world tour in Atlanta.

[7:10] Abby: Quote me.

[7:10] Abby: I'm going to hold up in Atlanta.

[7:12] Abby: I'm going in Atlanta.

[7:14] Abby: I am.

[7:16] Alexa: Are you, are you going, are you attending?

[7:18] Abby: I will be, I just, I don't care what I have to do. I will be going.

[7:20] Alexa: I'm going to either go in Jersey or Washington.

[7:22] Abby: Okay.

[7:23] Abby: I'll come to Atlanta.

[7:25] Abby: I'll be the Jersey one.

[7:26] Abby: May 22nd, baby.

[7:28] Alexa: What if I'm in that big old arena?

[7:30] Abby: Where are you going?

[7:30] Abby: When are you going?

[7:31] Alexa: May 22nd.

[7:34] Abby: Wait, that's one of the days I'm looking at too.

[7:36] Abby: What if we, what if we link up?

[7:37] Alexa: I mean, what if we link up?

[7:39] Abby: Wait, do you guys remember when we linked up at $3 bill?

[7:42] Abby: Remember that?

[7:43] Alexa: Oh, I was like, whoa, wait.

[7:47] Andrew: So where do we go in the conversation from here?

[7:50] Andrew: Okay.

[7:51] Andrew: So, oh, what I wanted to talk about was of course you Alexa brought to the attention before we started recording, um, this, uh, Kevin McHale, Instagram posts, uh, featuring Princess Diana, uh, my conversation topic.

[8:05] Andrew: Unless, okay, wait, you, you have thoughts clearly. What do you think?

[8:09] Alexa: I mean, I was at the nail salon, you guys, and my phone, for some reason, all my social media apps don't, I have it set to that.

[8:18] Alexa: Like I don't get notifications cause I don't like to be blown up like that.

[8:22] Alexa: But the one app that bypasses that every single time you guys is threads.

[8:27] Alexa: I still have threads on my phone and thread sends me notifications and it sent me a notification.

[8:32] Alexa: And I was like, the only person that it sends me notifications for, for some reason are Kevin and Jenna.

[8:37] Alexa: And maybe it's because they have like the setting on where like it will post to both accounts.

[8:42] Alexa: I don't know what it is.

[8:43] Alexa: And it said, it was like, Kevin posted like a bunch of pictures.

[8:46] Alexa: So it's like, oh, okay.

[8:47] Alexa: I'm leaving the nail salon.

[8:48] Alexa: I opened my app and I went, oh, I literally got audio media.

[8:52] Alexa: And my, my mouth is on the floor.

[8:54] Abby: Yeah, of course.

[8:55] Abby: I paused.

[8:56] Abby: I really did because I was like, this is, this means so much to me as, as, as a QWERTY truther.

[9:07] Alexa: As a QWERTY truther.

[9:08] Alexa: Um, wow.

[9:10] Abby: I was stunned.

[9:11] Abby: The woman was too stunned to speak.

[9:13] Alexa: Up, up, up, like literally I'm still standing.

[9:16] Abby: I was not standing at that moment.

[9:18] Abby: I was stunned.

[9:19] Abby: She was falling.

[9:20] Alexa: Wait, before I ask Abby your thoughts on, um, on this link up.

[9:23] Alexa: Abby, between up, up, up, and I'm still standing.

[9:25] Alexa: Is there a QWERTY duet that, uh, reigns higher?

[9:29] Abby: Um, I think vocally, I'm still standing maybe.

[9:34] Alexa: Ooh, who said that?

[9:35] Abby: Um, but I think, you know, production.

[9:40] Abby: I mean, I like, I like shooting on location.

[9:42] Abby: I like splicing.

[9:44] Abby: Like, yeah, I like, I like the double storyline we have going on with the double meaning of up, up, up.

[9:49] Abby: I like it.

[9:50] Abby: I enjoy it.

[9:50] Alexa: Double meaning of up, up, up.

[9:52] Abby: Yeah, right.

[9:53] Abby: We're going up on the roller coaster.

[9:54] Abby: We're going up the ramps, babe.

[9:59] Andrew: Um, Abby, what did you think of this, um, this, uh, Glee diva link up, uh, 2025?

[10:05] Abby: Um, well, first I, my first question is, I do wonder if he, if he asked, um, hey, can you come on the pod?

[10:11] Abby: I'm, I'm curious to know what she would have said and how she would have said, no, sorry again.

[10:21] Abby: And he'll be like, Hey, it's the last season.

[10:24] Abby: And she'll be like, I'll think about it.

[10:26] Abby: And then they'll never talk because she'll go missing.

[10:29] Abby: But something else that really, I saw a tweet that was like, so fucking funny.

[10:33] Abby: Hold on.

[10:33] Abby: I'm going to pull it up because I brought a tear to my eye.

[10:37] Abby: So he says, we know Diana got a job.

[10:41] Abby: Diana got a job.

[10:42] Abby: We haven't seen her work in, in how long?

[10:43] Abby: Who knows?

[10:44] Abby: Right.

[10:44] Abby: Like on main indicator, recession indicator, like to the nth degree.

[10:49] Abby: Like I'm so worried.

[10:53] Abby: I'm worried for the stock market.

[10:54] Abby: I'm worried for the planet.

[10:56] Abby: Like that's, I'm so worried.

[10:58] Abby: But someone said after being jobless for ages, she had to figure out some way to gain relevancy back.

[11:04] Abby: And it's like a picture of them.

[11:06] Abby: Right.

[11:06] Abby: Or whatever.

[11:07] Abby: Right.

[11:07] Abby: But then somebody comments, they go, because why did she decide to open the group chat and big 2025?

[11:11] Abby: Because it's really, it's a recession indicator.

[11:16] Abby: We got to get that.

[11:16] Abby: We got to get the game back together.

[11:18] Abby: We got to get some money up.

[11:19] Abby: We got to get the streams up on Disney plus on Hulu, get people watching, get that coin back because it's not, it's dire times.

[11:27] Abby: And honestly, I respect it.

[11:28] Abby: I respect, I too would link up.

[11:31] Abby: And then we're going to have to cut this next section out.

[11:34] Abby: I wonder, right.

[11:35] Abby: I wonder if Amber will not unfollow Kevin after this.

[11:40] Alexa: Wait, we can keep that in.

[11:42] Abby: No.

[11:42] Abby: Do you want to?

[11:43] Alexa: I don't know.

[11:44] Abby: It depends.

[11:44] Abby: No, I need to somehow mess with you.

[11:48] Abby: The mass unfollowing.

[11:49] Abby: She's building bridges.

[11:50] Abby: She's building bridges.

[11:52] Abby: Oh, yeah.

[11:55] Abby: I do feel like, I don't know, because my conversation topic for y'all at the top of this episode was, I feel like we are closer to a Glee boot than I think that we ever have been.

[12:06] Abby: Ever before.

[12:07] Abby: I feel like it's like almost like a canon event that it's like when it does happen, I'll be like, yep.

[12:12] Abby: Yeah.

[12:13] Abby: It's very scary.

[12:14] Abby: I think, I don't know if you guys saw, but Ryan Murphy followed on this day in Glee.

[12:18] Alexa: Girl, what the fuck are you doing?

[12:19] Abby: Oh, I'm like.

[12:20] Abby: What are you doing here?

[12:21] Alexa: Wait.

[12:22] Alexa: Yeah, I saw.

[12:22] Abby: On his extension.

[12:23] Abby: That was yesterday.

[12:24] Alexa: Yes.

[12:24] Abby: Yeah.

[12:25] Abby: What is going on?

[12:27] Abby: I'm shaking.

[12:28] Abby: I'm shaking.

[12:29] Abby: You guys are scared.

[12:31] Abby: And guess what?

[12:33] Abby: I, this is going to, this is controversial, I think.

[12:36] Abby: Controversial yet brave.

[12:37] Abby: Okay.

[12:38] Abby: I have, and I've gone on the record several times now saying like, no Glee boot.

[12:42] Abby: Like it's not going to happen.

[12:43] Abby: Like.

[12:44] Abby: Yeah.

[12:44] Abby: It's not going to happen.

[12:45] Abby: So like, I don't want it to happen.

[12:46] Abby: Blah, blah, blah.

[12:48] Abby: I would prefer a Glee boot that flops to a Broadway show that flops.

[12:54] Abby: A gluesicle.

[12:56] Abby: A gluesicle.

[12:56] Abby: I don't want it.

[12:57] Abby: For the longest time that I don't give a, I don't give a fuck if there's a Glee boot.

[13:01] Abby: I don't care.

[13:02] Abby: I don't think Glee is above the, the other things that have gone to reboot.

[13:06] Abby: Like, I don't think it's too special to reboot.

[13:08] Abby: I don't think it'll be as like special as the original season, but I don't think it's like above it.

[13:13] Abby: Like, I think, I think it'd be funny if it does flop.

[13:16] Abby: Like that would be a Glee thing to do.

[13:17] Abby: Like if there's a season and it's like pure chaos and it's just that one season.

[13:22] Abby: I'm here for it.

[13:22] Abby: Oh, we're going to talk about it.

[13:24] Abby: I'll be seated.

[13:24] Abby: Like I, I'm not going to pretend like I won't.

[13:26] Abby: In a way, you know, in a way I almost like they're at this.

[13:29] Abby: Maybe I would eat, I'll eat my words when I'm like listening back to this while I'm editing, but like, I almost feel.

[13:35] Abby: Like a really bad Glee boot I would enjoy just as much as like a Glee boot that is really great. You know, if it's like mid, I don't give a fuck, I don't want it. You know, right? But if it's like really, really bad, oh, I'm gonna eat that up. You know what I was thinking though? Everyone always talks about, um, like in today's day and age, especially like with TikTok and everything, um, like what songs they would do today. Yeah, and I'm like controversially, and this is another thought I had in the hair salon, sue me. Yes, not the hair salon, it was the nail salon, but whatever. Okay, yes. Um, I, aside from the pop girlies, aside from Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, Chapel, etc., I don't know that there are a ton of like mainstream songs I was like, oh, they would 100% do this on Glee.

But if you like now, but if you go back eight years, 2017-2018, those songs, they would have annihilated them all. They would have done, picked them all. Those Glee head films, they were all singing like, I mean, like most of their songs were from the 80s. They don't even need to sing from this decade. They don't even like singing. Ryan Murphy is allergic. So even like current, so no more. So Brad Falchuk, I feel like.

[14:36] Alexa: Oh yeah, Brad's choosing this old song. Ryan is like, I want all about that bass in the episode, make it work. You know, right? Well, also like even, even like musicals, like, oh, I'm gonna be theater kid again. Even like musicals aside from Dear Evan Hansen, like I don't know what they would, and like Hamilton, but like, yeah, what would they be singing from like musicals today? Like they're not gonna be going and singing, I mean, they're gonna sing something from New York, New York, that flop. Okay, wait, wait, wait, wait, they're gonna say great expectations from the outsiders. No, I have something to say about this actually. Um, maybe, maybe you can shed some light on this, but I don't believe that during the time that Glee was on air, 2009 to 2015, how many current like new Broadway shows of the time were they actually covering in the show? They were doing a lot of Chicago, they were doing a lot of Dreamgirls, they were doing a lot of Chorus Line, they were doing a lot of these like classics still today.

[15:57] Abby: Yeah, yeah, I think I agree with that. However, I think that if they were to do a Glee reboot, they would try to make it appeal to the kids by not doing Journey songs and songs from Gypsy and Chicago and whatever. They would be doing like the stuff that, oh, what are the kids interested in? The kids want to hear Dear Evan Hansen. The kids want to hear The Outsiders. The kids want to hear, uh, whatever. Like, and the kids want to hear Olivia Rodrigo. Like, I don't think if I'm thinking like a Disney plusified, yes, version of the Glee boot that has 10 episodes a season for two seasons before it gets booted. Like, I don't think that they're gonna, no, listen, there's a lot of potential for it to be like, I think like, yeah, the main pop girl is Sabrina, Olivia.

I understand the third, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but we can't forget the other new people who came through like the Doja. Imagine somebody like doing like a Doja like Grammy's performance and it's like, like we're forgetting about these people and Tyler, the creator. Yeah, I'm saying there's a lot of other people that we can fill out these and it'd be like in the way Will Schuster was singing, I says baby, why are you singing this song? But maybe the new Will Schuster is singing fucking Nissan Altima, who knows? I don't know. It's like in that like way where it just doesn't really make sense.

[17:20] Alexa: And I think there's a lot, there's stuff to work with. And don't forget we have already written an episode. We wrote Cowboy Glodder. That's a tweet. We already wrote it. It's out. It's public domain. Yeah, they just have to write eight more. We already wrote one.

[17:36] Abby: Yeah, yeah, no, you're right. You're right. Our renaissance episode. I was gonna say, why did we never do a rent? Why did we never do a renaissance one? Why? I know we should have prepared that for today.

[17:48] Alexa: We'll have to go back. It's okay. It's okay. Next time when renaissance is even more relevant in next round of the Glacket. Um, yeah, I don't know. But also one thing that I always think about is like that Kevin is like kind of similar to Artie. Okay, a glue Glee. And like he, I think he would be, okay, so he has publicly said, Alexa, you can fact check me on this, has publicly said he didn't, he does not want to portray Artie in the Glee boot. Then what is Kevin's, um, kind of participation in a possible Glee boot?

[18:19] Alexa: And you're literally, no, you, I mean, if Ryan calls him tomorrow, y'all don't think he's gonna get back in the chair? I think he would get back in the chair.

[18:32] Abby: I agree. And why do I know? I think you go, I think it depends on the conversations. You know what I'm saying? Like, I think if it's just like, it's all, it's already, and I guess, I mean, who am I to say? It's not my place. I am not someone who is a wheelchair user, so it'd have to be like, at the end of the day, like what do they think?

[18:50] Alexa: Yeah, but in the way that it reminds me of like, um, I'm trying to think of what the example I'm trying to find, but when it's like for Big Mouth, when one of the characters.

[19:03] Abby: Oh, you're talking about Jenny Slate being recast?

[19:09] Alexa: Uh, Jenny Slate walked away from Big Mouth.

[19:14] Abby: Um, and I owed a Deborah, you took it. Is that what you're talking about?

[19:20] Alexa: Yes, I think like things like that because like this is not like, this is not the answer to the like the question or like the problem. Like this is not gonna solve the problem. So it's just like, this is just like not even a band-aid, but like kind of like a look at this good thing we're doing type thing, but it's not really a good thing because it doesn't really have any ramifications necessarily.

[19:42] Abby: Um, but then again, that's just like from my point of view. So that's, and I'm not in the same situation. That's how it would feel because he was already, he was in it for six years. Unless they just make Artie come onto the screen like he's just always on FaceTime.

[19:48] Alexa: So that's what I was gonna say. Okay, I was gonna say they would, if Kevin doesn't or wouldn't in our hypothetical world, if he's not immediately signing on for a series regular role, um, for the purpose of employment in today's economy.

[20:07] Abby: Yeah, um, it's a recession. I don't know what that is, but it's my understanding that we're in one.

[20:11] Alexa: So Diana knows more than anybody. She's so, to quote Jesse St. James, yeah, I don't know how.

[20:20] Abby: Right, but if he's not immediately jumping on it and getting back, taking the chair out of the garage.

[20:25] Alexa: Oh, I forgot that he has it. That's right. And you know how he posted like a month or two ago that he was moving?

[20:33] Abby: What? Wait, what?

[20:43] Alexa: You guys posted on Instagram that he moved.

[20:50] Abby: Okay, you guys, you guys didn't comment on the paid promo to get him extra coin? Are you guys even his friends?

[20:57] Alexa: Oh, or something like you guys, whenever your friend posts any sort of paid ad, you have to like and comment to up their engagement so that they get more money.

[21:12] Abby: He had posted that he was moving, moving company.

[21:17] Alexa: Oh my gosh, they were so great with all my stuff. They were so gentle, blah, blah. And I commented and I was like, they all, I mean, they better have been gentle. Like they got TV history. Artie's chair better, it made it to your new crib safely.

[21:27] Abby: Did he engage with that comment or no?

[21:32] Alexa: Yes, he did engage with that comment. So can confirm Artie's chair safely to the new house, wherever that is. I wish it the best.

[21:38] Abby: I think that you might be, and I mean this in the most respectful way possible, I think you might be who has, other than Kevin himself, that has eyes on who is thinking actively about the, um, you know, where the whereabouts of Kevin's chair.

[21:50] Alexa: And that's my burden to carry. That's my burden to carry because, yeah, that's literally my crossbar. I, if, if no one's gonna worry about Artie's chair, then like I clearly have to in case Glee boot comes along. Sorry, I know where the chair. Don't act like you don't know what the chair is.

[22:10] Abby: Yeah, don't act like you guys don't know. Like it's in his garage, but anyways, I digress. If he's not pulling that out, I was gonna say the same thing as Abby. He is, Artie is too busy being a director elsewhere. He's flying all over the world making movies, blah, blah, blah. He appears via FaceTime once.

[22:30] Alexa: I also, I've said this like a number of times in the past, but like I'll say it again. I think that the Glee boot that would work the best is, um, and I don't think that I can even like take credit for this. I feel like maybe Abby, maybe you've seen this tweet before. I feel like I got the idea from Twitter, um, is that like someone said that it's about a new cast in the new cast of like completely unknown actors, like just completely, um, recycling, you know, the same broke, right? Hungry.

[23:10] Abby: Yeah, broke, like on their last dime.

[23:15] Alexa: Murphy for a bonus over like sensations. That's what I want, right? Like that's what I need. They're hungry. But then these new characters, these, these, uh, you know, overnight sensations, the characters are talking about like Mercedes just won her next Grammy or something. Artie just, or like they don't even need to make appearances. Maybe they could make appearances every now and then. I just don't want it to be too distracting.

[23:40] Abby: I don't know, right? Yeah, I see it. And it can, it's like one of those, like maybe somebody has like a poster from like a movie Artie directed and it says like right on the bottom, like it's not like his freaking face on it, but you know, it's just, it's tasteful, it's classy, it's cute, it's demure. It's, I, I like that idea. My other thing with the Glee boot though is that I would want it, like I don't like streaming or a TV, like I don't want 10 episodes. I know that that is an event that it's going to be 10 episode seasons, if that, 10 episodes max.

[24:04] Alexa: Yeah, 10 max. I need Ab Elementary, 22 episodes. I need them working.

[24:12] Abby: That's what I need. I mean, they're gonna be hungry. They're gonna be hungry. Unfortunately, at its best when they are like completely drained and working overtime and they have to hit a certain level of, I haven't slept in days. I'm running for the content to be good.

[24:26] Alexa: Oh, I hate 12 shots.

[24:30] Abby: Yeah, they find a bad contract and they can't get paid for going on tour.

[24:37] Alexa: Right, right. Yeah, oh, exactly. But also like, it just like the budget wouldn't be where it needed to be with like a nine episode streaming show. Like they would need this insane budget and I'm not saying that they have to go on tour or that they have to have merch in every single Claire store in the country.

[24:51] Abby: Oh no, there's nothing that's not gonna happen this time around.

[24:56] Alexa: That is right. People, that was one. But how are they gonna even afford, but the only, I'm like, the only way that they're gonna be able to afford the music rights.

[25:02] Abby: Yeah, but not if, not if people don't think it's gonna like take off. I feel like because Ryan, like he just gets money from people. I'm sure like he's like, like he's drawing this empire. I'm sure he has like people who'd be willing to put in money to this to like fund a season. I don't know if he'd make the longevity of it.

[25:19] Alexa: Well, I think, I wonder if him and Taylor Swift would like do a little partnership thing now that he got Travis Kelsey on that, on his last show.

[25:25] Abby: Yeah, I wonder if he said that himself that he's like, I wish that we did a Taylor Swift tribute episode.

[25:31] Alexa: Yeah, so yeah, I think that like also, and I don't feel great about this, as much as I do love a Disney bop, I think that the Glee boot's gonna be riddled with him in a bad way. You know what I mean? It's going to be, I'm gonna be overexposed and it's going to be like, uh, it's gonna be almost like as much as like High School Musical: The Musical: The Series was like fun and cute, it just like felt like a little bit too like, uh, like Disney, Disney, Disney. It just like, like adolescent.

[26:01] Abby: Like I want no one was getting pregnant in that show.

[26:08] Alexa: Right, no, exactly, exactly. I need them to get pregnant.

[26:14] Abby: Yeah, no, I literally need teen pregnancy and underage drinking.

[26:22] Alexa: Right? Like I think what will like really solidify, like, and would make me sleep the best at night is if I know for a fact Ian Brennan is writing, like he's there in the room because if it's not with like, he was, is what it's going to bring those unhinged factors that will make it, that will leave the kids pop out of it. Like he'll bring that edginess to it that'll be like teen pregnancy, sue fucking poisoning people, you know, that kind of like insanity. So if he's there, I have no doubt in my mind that it would be insane. If he's not there, they can kind of have it, they can kind of keep it in the locker.

[27:02] Abby: I also feel like I think Sue has to be there. I think Sue is like, Sue is the mainstay. We know this, right?

[27:06] Alexa: Yeah, no, I think Sue has to be there and I think that, I mean, maybe are we just pitching what actually is already High School Musical: The Musical: The Series? Because no, like they need to have like, they need to have like one mainstay and then the other ones can be.

[27:41] Andrew: PG-13. Maybe like, no, I'm like, maybe they're smoking weed.

[27:48] Abby: Hey, I don't think that we're gonna solve it in this conversation. But I like the groundwork that we just did.

[27:53] Alexa: Yeah, I think that we got a lot done.

[27:57] Andrew: Shut the fuck up. We need to get to the Glock. Um, yeah, I'm just saying, if Ian Brennan is listening, she can have these.

[28:01] Abby: I need you guys to shut up. You're derailing my fucking podcast. We actually do need to find Gleek of the Week. If Ian Brennan is listening, he can have this. We just brainstormed like half a season. Ian Brennan, whatever you come up with, like, for like half a second while you're taking your morning dump will be better than anything that we just said. You know what I mean?

[28:24] Alexa: Do you know what I mean? His mind is jealous. Come on the podcast. Come on the pod. And now can I come if he comes? Can I can I interview?

[28:28] Abby: Oh, yeah, you'll be there. Thank God.

[28:34] Andrew: My second thing. My second thing on the agenda that I just thought about. Rest in peace to the Pope. Okay, and I bring this up because the conclave is happening on May 7. If the Glee Club had to do a conclave, what do you guys think would be?

[28:51] Abby: You were just co-signing the fact that we need to Glock it.

[28:56] Andrew: I just just just just just we'll talk about this maybe at a different point. I also think that this is hilarious, because I did also see Abby's tweet like yesterday, where she was like, it was like her ninth tweet about the Pope. And she's like, I'm not even cabinet.

[29:10] Abby: Ninth tweet about the Pope. I saw him like I tweeted about like a couple of times like low key. Like I'm not gonna lie. Like, I'm like distraught. I'm not even. I know some fans.

[29:29] Alexa: Yeah, I saw him. He blessed my bracelet. Like this was so serious. I went to a Catholic high school. I saw him on Easter 2019. I have a video of him in his little pole mobile. Like it was so serious to me.

[29:42] Abby: Yeah. So when I woke up, and I saw homeboy pass after meeting JD Vance, you can imagine my shock. I was like, Whoa, but that's not the point. That's not the case in point. The point is, is who do you think would become the Pope? We honor him by talking about Pope Francis tribute episode.

[30:01] Alexa: Wait, no, it's it's like grilled cheese is part two for the new kids, where instead of having like someone's dad on life support, and they need to like pray to the cheese sandwich, the Pope dies, and everyone reverts to Catholicism, and is like going to church again.

[30:16] Abby: And like saying they're like praying their rosary saying they're our fathers. You know what I'm saying?

[30:21] Andrew: Right. I think Mercedes would become the new Pope.

[30:27] Abby: Mercedes is the new Pope. I'm happy with that. Mercedes would be Pope.

[30:33] Alexa: Yeah, well, season three Mercedes basically was the Pope. Right?

[30:38] Abby: Yeah. Right. What happens as the president of the God of the God squad? Is that is that not what the Pope is? Is the Pope not the president of the God squad?

[30:43] Andrew: No, no, I thought you were referencing in season three when when Finn comes in. This was my Glee is best picture this past year. When when Finn comes into the Glee Club with Rory, and he says what happens when the Pope dies, you you get a new Pope. And so in that scenario, Mercedes is the Pope that dies and Rory is the new Pope, which I don't like.

[31:00] Abby: Which I'm not crazy.

[31:04] Alexa: I don't like that either. Can we reverse it? Rory dies and Mercedes is the new Pope?

[31:08] Abby: I'm dead because I didn't even like I wasn't even thinking about that scene. And now I'm like actually cackling at the fact that that was like written into the script.

[31:16] Andrew: No, actually, when you look at this is like, very weirdly. So why didn't anyone tweet that?

[31:23] Abby: Like you could have had I was thinking I was thinking about sharing that the day that the Pope died. But then I was like thinking I was like that that might be like disrespectful.

[31:31] Alexa: I don't know. I think it was like it was people like Abby is like there. I don't know where she was in the grief grieving period.

[31:35] Abby: Well, now it's been it's been seven days. So you can definitely go do it now.

[31:41] Andrew: But like on May 7th, it will be back. We're social media strategize. So nobody, we're really no listeners. None of you people that are listening. Don't steal this. This is Andrew's tweet. We can all retweet it. But this podcast will probably come out before.

[32:00] Abby: Literally, maybe like less than an hour then. Like after like news broke that the Pope died, like I saw that someone like went back and shared that slide from the Glee's best picture.

[32:11] Alexa: That was like living rent free in this beautiful glistening had that in who had that in there saved. That was like, oh, when the Pope dies, I'm going to repost my story.

[32:21] Abby: Exactly. So what did this person know?

[32:26] Andrew: I mean, their mind is just as just as great as Ian Brennan's to me.

[32:30] Abby: So right. Anyway, does that answer your question, Abby? Does that answer the question myself?

[32:37] Alexa: But yeah, she was like, I think it's Mercedes. Do you guys agree?

[32:41] Abby: You guys said yes.

[32:48] Andrew: Oh, yeah. Yeah. All right. Okay. Constantly correct.

[32:52] Abby: That's gotta be in the carousel. It's gotta be like, oh, and then the way I feel so bad for not knowing what color is the smoke when it's when it's been chosen.

[32:57] Alexa: That's why.

[33:02] Abby: Well, no idea. I'm a Catholic. I don't know. I'm Catholic, but I've never seen I don't know. I think when Pope Francis came into office, what was I like? Eight?

[33:09] Alexa: Yeah, you don't color. You don't remember the color of the smoke.

[33:14] Abby: I don't remember. You're the one that just watched Conclave.

[33:18] Alexa: I did just watch Conclave, but I don't I don't know.

[33:22] Andrew: Okay, so with everything kind of like settled now, do we want to talk about Glackett?

[33:25] Abby: I understand. Before we started recording, not to out you both. Well, maybe just Alexa. I the question at the beginning of every episode is like Glackett opinions.

[33:32] Alexa: You had to look quickly.

[33:40] Abby: Do you are you in the same boat? Abby just turned off her video. So I take it that she's also looking.

[33:46] Alexa: I had to. What's it called? I looked. I do my homework before I come, you know, and I looked and I actually saw for this round. I have no qualms. I don't have anything to I understand each choice.

[34:03] Abby: The one that was heartbreaking to go was obviously Valerie versus Rumor Has It. But I understand the choice.

[34:08] Alexa: And I don't in my heart of hearts think that Valerie is even Santana's best solo for me. And we can name that right now. And I think the best solo I mean, there's a lot to talk. I can't just I can't just say it off the top of my head.

[34:18] Abby: Like Alfie, Nutbush Cities are very, very close.

[34:23] Alexa: Yeah, but city very close to my heart. I think those are, you know, better vocal performances as well. Valerie is still 10 out of 10. Amazing.

[34:29] Abby: But those supersede the 10. I think that I understand every each choice, maybe this time.

[34:35] Alexa: And I'm not even looking at the at the bracket. This is off the top of my head.

[34:39] Abby: The bracket. But I think that you make a really good point about Valerie, because I feel like it will if we say that Valerie is the number one Sandholo, are we saying that she just like peaked immediately out of the gate? You know, that's just not true.

[34:51] Alexa: Give her some time to grow.

[34:55] Abby: That's not true. Right. And that she did. I, my thing is, I am looking at, like, season two. And I'm like, I'm not really season two of the blacket. I'm not really angry about a lot of them, because I feel like they're like, okay, well, yes,

[35:05] Alexa: let's let's actually talk about that.

[35:11] Abby: Um, it's the fact that there's one Artolo left, one Artolo left in the blacket.

[35:25] Alexa: Yeah. And and with my luck, because I don't know if anyone remembers every time I've been on the podcast, what kind of songs get chosen when I'm here. But the last time I was here, it was like, a bunch of writers, like a writer song every time, or like an entire season four song.

[35:41] Abby: Yeah, and it lost.

[35:51] Alexa: Okay, but you were there.

[35:55] Abby: Yeah, at least you were like there to pay its respect in person.

[36:03] Alexa: I was there like with my picket fence.

[36:08] Abby: Or is it is it more so like you had to like watch like a close friend of you, this is maybe too graphic, a close friend of you get killed in front of you.

[36:15] Alexa: Right? It was like, it was and I could do nothing to stop it.

[36:18] Abby: Yeah, it was like, oh my god, I'm trying to save you lost to. I want to say like, Gloria.

[36:23] Alexa: Yeah, it was something crazy.

[36:32] Abby: Hold on. It was Yeah. I'm the season for when I'm the second season of the blackout. Let's find it.

[36:39] Alexa: Um, I got to the back dress.

[36:41] Abby: A writer song. A writer song. I mean, Unique of course is there. And she's pulling a lot of weight there. Right?

[36:45] Alexa: Um, no, Gloria beat Jukebox Hero, another writer song. At least a writer got his ass whooped a little bit in that episode. You know?

[36:52] Abby: Um, and, oh, wait, wait, no, we literally had a writer song every time. And then we had Teenage Dream season four beat You're the One That I Want. Of course.

[36:58] Alexa: Right? Well, obviously it was going to but like, writer Damn, that isn't saying that the half of the songs were writer features.

[37:03] Abby: Wow. No, it literally was second season of the blackout where like, of course, we vetted a lot of writer songs. And not a lot of songs live this season, too.

[37:15] Alexa: I'm now looking at my one that we did with Claudia.

[37:21] Abby: And I also think that every single one I've been like, listeners, correct me if I'm wrong. If you are like, if you know how I voted in all of these, and I have like a revisionist history going on, I still think that every single one I voted for lost.

[37:29] Alexa: Yeah, anyway, neither here nor there.

[37:36] Abby: I just, I wish that there was more Artie representation in season three of the blackout. That's my qualm.

[37:39] Alexa: What I want to say about that is that I've been thinking about Artie a lot recently.

[37:44] Abby: Me too. Oh my god, tell me about it.

[37:49] Alexa: The blackout. And I do think that it was kind of like written in the stars that from the first song of the first episode of Gleek of the Week that the fact that the first song was You Can't Touch This, that it was written in, of course, that lost.

[38:00] Abby: I think it was written in the stars that like he he needed to be like the martyr of the Glackit. You know what I mean?

[38:05] Alexa: He's the martyr of the Glackit, but he's the glue of the Gleek Club. So you heard it here first.

[38:10] Abby: Exactly. You can't be both. Like, I mean, you can't you have to be both. You know, like, actually the martyr, it makes me so I think that like, like, they're, they're a big part of me.

[38:22] Andrew: Okay, I don't want to do the exercise of doing the Glackit ever again after this is done. This is the ultimate Glackit. I don't this never again will this ever be done again.

[38:28] Abby: But if if it were, I would be a lot more protective of my baby boy. And I just think he was done dirty.

[38:34] Alexa: Artavius did better.

[38:36] Abby: And it's because he's a octoroon. He's a one eighth black man and people hate to see them.

[38:41] Alexa: Just like Haley Steinfeld.

[38:53] Abby: Well black woman just like Haley Steinfeld.

[39:01] Alexa: Okay, yeah. He they don't want to see him thrive.

[39:06] Abby: No. And you know what? I was there for every single competition. I did my best though.

[39:10] Alexa: You did your best. That's it.

[39:16] Abby: I know. I know. I know you wouldn't do that to Artavius. I know you wouldn't do that to him.

[39:21] Alexa: It wasn't just on you. It's like, I think, I think the glisteners, whoever like doesn't know all of Abby's references she's making, they need to go back and look at Abby's like threads that she used to write on Twitter of Artie's, her headcanon that Artie has a black stepdad.

[39:27] Abby: Bro, literally the best thing. First of all, I forgot I did that. That's number one, two and three. But Artie's step, Artie, black stepdad, black stepsister, Paige Beckers type thing is, do you know what Paige Beckers is?

[39:42] Alexa: Wait, no, I don't know. What is Paige?

[39:46] Abby: My brother goes to UConn. She's a basketball player.

[39:49] Alexa: Oh, wow. Really? She's a basketball player. She just got drafted to the WNBA.

[39:52] Abby: And that's Artie's stepsister?

[39:54] Alexa: No, no. She's white.

[39:57] Abby: Oh, okay.

[39:58] Alexa: And has a black stepmother. But the fact, the thing is that the joke is that like, oh, where do you get all the like, hello, it's because you're around like a lot of black people. So that's why I say that Artie has a black stepsister and a black dad. Because it's like, girl, where did you get this? This from?

[40:15] Abby: And who are we to say that? That's not true.

[40:18] Alexa: We didn't exactly it fits the canon. Like we only see

[40:21] Abby: Right. We've only met his mother.

[40:24] Alexa: For a fleeting moment.

[40:25] Abby: Katie Segal.

[40:27] Alexa: Right. I mean, who am I to say that's not true?

[40:32] Abby: Andrew, you were consistently referenced.

[40:34] Alexa: Ryan Murphy, tap him.

[40:36] Abby: You both are referenced. Starting with Abby, you're referenced frequently on this podcast as someone that has beautiful, beautiful head canons that I can only agree with.

[40:46] Alexa: You're, of course, referenced every time that an Arty song fails.

[40:49] Abby: Right, thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you so much, you guys.

[40:55] Andrew: So we have-

[40:56] Alexa: I'm glad that that's my legacy.

[40:57] Andrew: That is your legacy.

[40:58] Abby: What's the Artolo left?

[40:59] Andrew: The one Artolo left, you got it, Abby.

[41:04] Alexa: Is it PYT?

[41:05] Andrew: It is not PYT. PYT lost toward the end of round two.

[41:09] Abby: Is it never going back again?

[41:11] Andrew: It is never going back again.

[41:12] Alexa: Oh my god, that's my number one Artolo anyways!

[41:15] Abby: I also remember over the summer, Andrew texted me and was like, quick, drop what you're doing right now.

[41:20] Alexa: Like, which is the better Arty song?

[41:23] Abby: And it was like, what are the top five best Arty- like, Artolos?

[41:29] Alexa: I forget what the content of that conversation was, but I remember-

[41:31] Andrew: You were recording.

[41:32] Alexa: You were recording for something, and you- because I listened to the episode after and you were like, I literally just texted Alexa, we'll see if she replies.

[41:38] Abby: And I also remember being like, very drunk when I received that text.

[41:42] Andrew: Of course.

[41:43] Alexa: And being like, well-

[41:44] Abby: Not of course, but you know.

[41:45] Alexa: No, of course.

[41:46] Abby: Right, of course.

[41:47] Alexa: Knowing you.

[41:48] Abby: Yeah.

[41:49] Alexa: Right, of course.

[41:50] Abby: And I remember being like, well, like, this is like the public service that I can do in my current state.

[41:54] Alexa: Yeah.

[41:55] Abby: Like, the people need to hear what the best Artolos are.

[41:59] Alexa: And I do think I, like, clocked in via text for that episode.

[42:02] Andrew: I don't remember which episode it was, but-

[42:04] Abby: It's there.

[42:05] Alexa: I believe it was like a- because Connor likes to bring you up as well.

[42:08] Andrew: So it must have been a Connor episode.

[42:10] Abby: When's the Alexa-Connor episode, you guys?

[42:13] Andrew: We're filming it right now, you guys.

[42:15] Alexa: Listeners, if you want an Alexa-Connor episode, comment on your Spotify comments.

[42:20] Abby: It's in pre-production.

[42:21] Andrew: It's in pre-production.

[42:22] Alexa: We're writing it right now.

[42:23] Abby: We're writing it.

[42:24] Andrew: It's been in pre-production for a year, you guys.

[42:25] Alexa: Okay, so we have- we're in round three of the Glacket.

[42:30] Andrew: We have two competitions per episode.

[42:32] Alexa: All right, so what are we manifesting?

[42:34] Andrew: What are we kind of looking for?

[42:36] Abby: I feel I know Alexa's answer.

[42:38] Andrew: But Abby, you go ahead.

[42:39] Alexa: I'm looking for that one Artolo.

[42:40] Abby: Yeah, you're looking for- you're never going back again.

[42:43] Alexa: I'm- honestly, at this point in the game, it's time for us to lock in, get serious. I think that everybody knows that once round three came in, it's like- it's no jokes anymore. You can't just put something in because like it makes you feel good. It has to actually be good, okay? And on the other side, people are very, very defensive over the things that they love. And I'm going to go on- I'm half the mind to like go on the defense where like I want it to have like a lot of like people that I love. Like I want it to be Santana and like Mercedes songs so that I can vote them in and get them to the next round. But I also want to be the person who's going to like send all the flops home, all the flops in my head home so that they don't have to like face- go through that competition.

So either way, I'm kind of happy with whatever outcome is. I just want to be in control and that's what's happening here. So it doesn't really matter. I would like- my other goal- my other goal is to not be the sole person on the other side of the equation.

[43:37] Abby: Impossible.

[43:38] Alexa: Like I don't want to be the sole vote for one song and have you guys both vote for the other song. I want to be in agreement with you guys.

[43:45] Andrew: You don't want to be a martyr.

[43:47] Alexa: I don't- you guys, what's with all the Catholic symbolism in this episode? We've got martyrs, we've got cross to bear, we've got the Pope. Something is happening.

[43:54] Abby: You guys!

[43:55] Andrew: It's the conclave.

[1:07:57] Abby: So, I think we should dive right into it. What do you think about the performances we have lined up today?

[1:08:27] Alexa: I'm really excited! I mean, we have some classics in there, and I can't wait to see how they stack up against each other.

[1:08:57] Andrew: Absolutely! Let's start with "Blame It on the Alcohol." What are your thoughts on that performance?

[1:09:27] Abby: I love that one! It's such a fun number, and the energy is just infectious. Plus, the way they incorporate the storyline into the song is really clever.

[1:09:57] Alexa: Right? And I think it really showcases the characters' personalities well. You get to see a different side of them when they're under the influence.

[1:10:27] Andrew: Exactly! And the choreography is so much fun. It really adds to the overall vibe of the performance.

[1:10:57] Abby: For sure! I think it’s one of those performances that you can’t help but smile while watching.

[1:11:27] Alexa: Agreed! Now, moving on to "It's Not Unusual," what do you think about that one?

[1:11:57] Abby: I think it’s a classic! The way they pay homage to the original while putting their own spin on it is just brilliant.

[1:11:59] Alexa: And the vocals are fantastic! You can really feel the passion in their voices.

[1:12:27] Andrew: Definitely! It’s one of those performances that really stands out in the series.

[1:12:57] Abby: And I love how they use humor in that performance too. It keeps it light-hearted while still being powerful.

[1:13:27] Alexa: Yes! It’s a perfect balance. Now, let’s talk about "Landslide." That one hits differently, doesn’t it?

[1:13:57] Abby: Oh, absolutely. It’s such an emotional performance. The way they convey the lyrics really resonates with the audience.

[1:14:27] Andrew: I think it’s one of the most poignant moments in the series. You can really feel the weight of the song.

[1:14:57] Alexa: And the visuals during that performance are stunning. It really enhances the emotional impact.

[1:15:27] Abby: For sure! It’s a performance that stays with you long after it’s over.

[1:18:57] Abby: I think "Blame It on the Alcohol" has to be a contender. It’s just so much fun!

[1:19:01] Andrew: Great points! It’s going to be a tough decision.

[1:22:26] Alexa: Yes, it's always a blast to talk about Glee and see how these performances stack up against each other.

[1:22:46] Andrew: Absolutely! So, let's jump right in. The first song we’re discussing today is "Blame It on the Alcohol." What are your thoughts on this performance?

[1:23:06] Abby: I think it's such a fun number. The energy is infectious, and it really captures the spirit of the episode.

[1:23:26] Alexa: I agree! The choreography is great, and the way they incorporate the theme of the song into the performance is really clever.

[1:23:46] Andrew: Definitely! And the way the characters interact with each other during the performance adds a lot of depth to it.

[1:24:06] Abby: Plus, the vocal performances are strong. I love how they showcase different voices throughout the song.

[1:31:06] Abby: That’s a tough question! I think it really depends on how you define leadership within the group.

[1:31:26] Alexa: I agree. Each character brings something unique to the table, but I think someone who can balance fun and seriousness would be ideal.

[1:31:46] Andrew: That makes sense! It’s all about finding that right mix of personality and talent.

I think what you said, the vocals are very good. And I also love the outfits. I think everybody looks cute. Everybody looks happy. Finn slash Corey looks cute with his little dance move. Everybody just looks like they're having a happy time. And I love a moment when people are happy. It's like a very much Glee Club is family. We're having a good time. We love each other.

[1:47:21] Alexa: Yeah, I got you.

[1:47:23] Abby: The GLAAD honors Naya Rivera at the 2021.

[1:47:28] Alexa: GLAAD Media Awards, yeah.

[1:47:30] Abby: And Jesslyn Gilsig reading the note from Naya's mom. About being told that the character will be gay. And asking if she has any feelings about it. And then she's like, oh my God, I'm thrilled. She's so excited about the, you know what I'm talking about, Abby, yes?

[1:47:55] Alexa: Oh yeah, I do.

[1:47:56] Abby: There's just a tear coming to my eye. Yeah, I just, yeah. She was just so, I don't know. She felt immense privilege to portray this character. She's excited to be that person. And I think that she, it came across in the performance. How much she really cared about this. Because up until this point, and I've said this so many times before. But up until this point, the Britannia relationship is just kind of a gag. A really great gag. Very fun. And they're both very specifically funny. And even more so together. That I remember the spoilers saying.

[1:48:59] Abby: And so I just thought that, like, when, you know, this episode obviously came out, I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa, stop. Why am I crying? And obviously, at the time, I was at a much different point in my life and my own coming out journey. And so I just think it's so special that, you know, Santana, Kurt walked so Santana could run, that, like, the character of Santana has so many facets to, not to say that Kurt doesn't, but Santana just embodied something as like a queer person that I was not seeing, that she was funny, she was hot, she was popular, but like also gay, that like, her sexuality is not, you know, the thing that first and foremost defines her. And so I thought it was like a very, I just, oh my gosh, like, I would not be talking about Glee still today if we didn't have the Britannia storyline or, you know, Landslide just generally, because Landslide is, is the face or the song of the relationship for me. And so, um, oh my god. That's what I have to say.

[1:50:08] Alexa: That's beautiful. I feel like, yeah, to piggyback off of that, to add on to what you're saying about, like, who Santana was as a character, like, and how, like, her, she was all those things, like, and she was lesbian, you know what I'm saying? And it wasn't like, where Kurt was like, oh, by the way, like, he's, he's gay. Like, that's the first thing you know about him. And then you learn all the layers.

[1:50:31] Abby: Because I think, yeah, I think that's a really dangerous thing to say. Like, I just, we're just like, for both of us to be like, kind of saying that Kurt is gay first. But I'm saying that, like, that's not, that's not how I'm saying that he is. That's how I'm saying that maybe that's how the show gave it to us.

[1:50:47] Alexa: Right. It was like, it was like, hey, here's, here's the goth kid. Here's the kid in a wheelchair. Here's the gay kid. And it's, you know, Santana was presented, you know, first as bitchy cheerleader.

[1:51:01] Abby: But then, you know,

[1:51:03] Alexa: Right. And to add, like, another layer onto her too, like, she's bitchy cheerleader. She's blah, she's gay. She's also like, she's got that little bit of like, familial and religious, like trauma. Yeah, of it all to where like, Kurt was on the record from not necessarily the get go, but like from early on in the series, at least early season two as being like, an atheist, he wasn't into believing in any higher power. And like, that was his that was his belief. And then Santana comes from obviously, like this very, like, conservatively religious family upbringing with her abuela and all of those things. So it's also like, brings that like another layer into it, which I think was definitely relatable for a lot of people who are watching at home in middle America, who were like, kind of in the same position as her.

And I think that that also just like, made her made people relate to her on a very deep, like, sisterly level, almost where it didn't feel like she was a character on TV. It felt like someone you like, really know.

[1:52:09] Abby: Oh, sure. Yeah, because watching Yeah, there she was, like, just the layers, the representation, like it was like, crazy, like on the nose sometimes, you know?

[1:52:23] Alexa: I think I'm gonna get emotional. Um, give me a second.

[1:52:31] Abby: No, you're good. You're good. You can turn off your camera if you don't want us to look at you.

[1:52:37] Alexa: Have you guys seen that fucking video of John Moran? He's like a basketball player, like the cameras in his face, so he tries to block it.

[1:52:46] Abby: Are you making this is a sports reference? I'm thinking more so the Wendy Williams. Stop, I gotta do that thing for Nickelodeon. You know what I'm talking about?

[1:52:58] Alexa: She's crying. She's like, Oh, I can't cry. I have to do that thing for Nickelodeon. That's literally happening.

[1:53:03] Abby: That's funny. I got a glacket. I got a glacket. I got a glacket.

[1:53:09] Alexa: No, but seriously, I think I, I, I think now I've entered a part of my of my, my grief ish, where it's just like, I try not to, like, think too long about it. Yeah, I've been avoiding, you know, so like, to sit here and like, watch landslide. I'm like, first of all, love that song. Everybody ate down. You know what I'm saying? Gwen ate. Heather ate. She ate.

[1:53:35] Abby: Why did they switch who sang what part on the TV version versus the recorded version?

[1:53:40] Alexa: Who knows? We got to we got to talk about it every single time. I have to figure it out. I don't understand why they did it. But I don't agree with it.

[1:53:49] Abby: I like the TV version more.

[1:53:49] Alexa: I like the TV version better, too.

[1:53:53] Abby: Yeah. But I think that, like, like, again, like, to build upon the representation, her being, like, an Afro-Latina on top of that adds more layers, like, oh, shoot, I feel seen, like, this then the third. But I just think, like what you said about Nia in general, being so happy to, like, play a character like that, and do it so beautifully and so well. Like, and I think that, quoting like her book where she's talking about like, that Britney and Santana were more than just like a gay couple. They were just a couple. Like, they're just two people who are dating each other. Like, it doesn't have to be like, something like, oh, my God, they're just two. They're just people. I think she played Santana as like, just a human so well, with so many complexities.

And I think I mean, I owe her so much, I think. And I think a lot of people owe her like a lot or would give like, if I had to give my last penny to her, I would give my last penny. If I had to trade my house to bring her back, I'd trade several houses.

[1:54:45] Alexa: Yeah. But I'm glad that we're left with, you know, these things to remember her by.

[1:54:52] Abby: Yeah, so beautiful. I think it's definitely top 10 of trio songs for sure. I think, nope, guys, take notice when there's a trio and she's in it. It's a top 10. Rumor has it, Gloria, landslide, who was tipping her crown? Nobody is taking it on. It's exactly like, come on, nobody's coming for her.

[1:55:13] Alexa: It's on there. Like, she's such, I think it goes to show like, how versatile her voice is and how it blends with other people. Like, it doesn't matter where you put her. She's got to find a little socket to sit in and she's going to fit perfectly. And I just love her so much. And yeah, that's all I got to say.

[1:55:28] Abby: I know. We went from laughing and giggling and just talking about Artie here.

[1:55:35] Alexa: Well, if you guys, I was thinking, I wasn't going to say it, but if you want to bring him into it.

[1:55:39] Abby: Wait, wait, wait, we'll bring him in in a second. We'll bring him in in a second. We got to talk about the meat of this before we talk about the, you know, the little like side dishes.

[1:55:49] Alexa: Okay.

[1:55:49] Abby: This is the main course. This is the main course, because I need to talk about Ms. Goop first. We got to talk about the main soloist. And, you know, a few weeks ago, I was talking about like, okay, I feel like Kirsten Chenoweth and Gwyneth Paltrow neck and neck for number one Glee guest star. Watching this right now. Ms. Goop has it in the bag. Ms. Goop. I think that like, April Rhodes, fantastic character, so fun. One of like, most quotable, like, I think that she's so great. And also like deeply tragic when you think about her. I think that they, they discovered how to like perfect a Glee guest star through Kirsten and how they utilize her. And then they were like, okay, like, we're taking what we learned from that.

And we're writing this like, substitute teacher because I'm like, you know, you know that they had to do a substitute teacher at one point. And they were like, we have it's like Gwyneth Paltrow Academy Award winner coming in. And just like, I think that she is also tragic. Maybe not as quotable, but just like, I think that she is so, she adds like such a, what do we call it? Like a parallel to like, what Mr. Schuster's offering. And in such a really interesting way, in a way that like, you know, like, these girls couldn't have never come to him about what they were going through right now. And so I'm just like, really thankful that like, this is how they did it. Because I think that like, especially like queer youth, you do need to have like role models that treat it normally, like the way that they had that conversation earlier in the episode, when they were seated on the seat on the on the ground.

And it wasn't it wasn't like talking at you about lesbianism or, you know, just sexuality, just in general, that it was like, hey, we're talking to each other as humans. And like, I'm not thinking any less of you for or anything. It was just like very, very normal conversation, which like, I still get a, I still get a little, what she said, I still get a little tingle when I think of Andy DeFranco, and a different goal. Okay, I was gonna say it, but I wanted to make sure that was what it was. And whoever that is, in the middle of it. Hello.

[1:58:15] Alexa: Yeah, yeah. And then we serious. And that's basically what we've done this whole episode. We laughed and then we serious.

[1:58:25] Abby: We really did. And I agree with your assessment that Gwen, that she she's taking it in terms of Miss Goop is taking it because I think in terms of like the characters, like their impact on the students as well. I think hers was more important than like April Rhodes is really like April Rhodes is more of a lesson for like Will Schuster, like to believe in the kids and let them sing, let the kids sing. And like rely on their talents. Whereas like, she was like, I'm listening to you kids. Let's fucking sing CeeLo one more time. And like changing Will's perspective on like, you know, actually open your ears, listen to the kids.

[1:59:00] Alexa: I will say, say something bad about landslide challenge. I'll take it. I have one singular bad thing to say about this performance. Holly singing this song to Will. I understand they're in the middle of a little storyline right here.

[1:59:21] Abby: No, you have your time.

[1:59:21] Alexa: And the way that Will's looking at her where he's like, she's clearly singing to me. Like, yeah.

[1:59:29] Abby: Like, right. And you know, it was it was Mr. Schuster that did not allow Naya to be on the mp3 version. It was him.

[1:59:35] Alexa: Oh yeah, I know. Actually, when they were when he brought the kids to the recording booth after when he took the kids to the recording booth. Actually, my woman is going to sing the entire song. It's on GarageBand.

[2:00:02] Abby: Okay, wait, wait, wait. I'm putting a lot of precedence on this joke. I have a really great joke I'm about to make. And I really hope that you like it. Okay, so when they were like putting together the the vocals on on Landslide mp3 version, they said, oops, I'll goop.

[2:00:11] Alexa: You're so annoying.

[2:00:13] Abby: And not to like, say that what I said should be the title of that. Oops, I'll goop. I think that's really great. But what was the art? Our tangents?

[2:00:23] Alexa: Our tangents? Glamclave. Glamclave. Glamclave still feels forced. So like, I feel like we can't like we said it too many times.

[2:00:29] Abby: Our tangents is good. But wait, after, like in order to keep up with my art tangents really quick.

[2:00:34] Alexa: Yeah, go ahead. You've been sitting on it.

[2:00:40] Abby: There are Sardi, there are Sardi crumbs for everyone with the eyes to see. Yeah, you know, like, right after this, right after where this mp4 ends. Number one Sardi moments. Yeah, one of the number I have a whole PowerPoint I can present to the podcast pages. Um, I have a whole PowerPoint. But yeah, number one of the number higher up Sardi moments is pretty cool that our girlfriends are such good friends, right?

[2:01:05] Alexa: Oh, I wish that we were that close. I wish that you and I were that close.

[2:01:10] Abby: And Artie's like, and I'm like, right?

[2:01:16] Alexa: No, for sure. And you know, that had me logging on to AO3. Like it did.

[2:01:23] Abby: Another, you know, she had wrote she had wrote something. You guys who's to say that I don't have an AO3 browser like already open?

[2:01:28] Alexa: I'm sure I believe you. I actually have to.

[2:01:35] Abby: Um, but uh, maybe the other thing I'm going to say about this that's like completely aside from the vocals, which are obviously top tier, and the storyline, which is also obviously top tier to get a little bit more superficial. Love Santana's outfit. And do you know what it really reminds me of? I don't know if this has been said in any sort of capacity before, but it's really giving Camp Rock one it's giving Peggy's final jam outfit. We've got a flowy top. We've got bell bottom jeans, her that guitar and she's doing you know, I'm saying she could like make up that trend. Peggy is a little queer coded.

[2:02:12] Alexa: Oh, for sure. Yes. Okay. Right. No, Peggy like might have if we had had a

[2:02:19] Andrew: Welcome back to Gleek of the Week! Today, we have Abby and Alexa joining us again for Round Three of the Glacket.

[2:02:49] Abby: Thanks for having us back! We had such a great time last time.

[2:03:19] Alexa: Yeah, I can't wait to dive into these performances.

[2:03:49] Andrew: Absolutely! So, let's get started. The first song we're discussing today is "Blame It on the Alcohol."

[2:04:09] Abby: This performance is so much fun. I love how they really captured the spirit of the song.

[2:04:29] Alexa: And the choreography is just hilarious! It really adds to the overall vibe.

[2:04:49] Andrew: Right? The way they portray the effects of alcohol is both comedic and relatable.

[2:05:09] Abby: I also appreciate how they included different characters' perspectives in the performance.

[2:05:29] Alexa: Exactly! It makes it feel more dynamic and engaging.

[2:05:49] Andrew: So, where do we think this performance should land on the Glacket?

[2:06:09] Abby: I think it deserves a solid spot. It's definitely memorable.

[2:06:29] Alexa: I agree! It's one of those performances that sticks with you.

[2:06:49] Andrew: Great! Let's move on to the next song, "It's Not Unusual."

[2:07:09] Abby: This one is iconic! I love how they used it to showcase the character's emotions.

[2:07:29] Alexa: And the way they incorporated the original artist's style was brilliant.

[2:07:49] Andrew: Tom Jones would be proud! The energy in this performance is infectious.

[2:08:09] Abby: It really gets you moving. I can't help but sing along.

[2:08:29] Alexa: Same here! It's such a classic.

[2:08:49] Andrew: So, does this performance rank higher than "Blame It on the Alcohol"?

[2:09:09] Abby: I think so. It's just so iconic and well-executed.

[2:09:29] Alexa: I agree! It has that timeless quality.

[2:09:49] Andrew: Perfect! Now, let's discuss "Landslide."

[2:10:09] Abby: This performance is so emotional. It really showcases the character's growth.

[2:10:29] Alexa: I love the vulnerability in the singing. It hits you right in the feels.

[2:10:49] Andrew: Absolutely. It's a beautiful moment in the series.

[2:11:09] Abby: I think it deserves a high spot on the Glacket for sure.

[2:11:29] Alexa: Yes! It's one of those performances that really resonates with the audience.

[2:11:49] Andrew: Great! Lastly, we have "Love Shack."

[2:12:09] Abby: This one is just pure fun! It's a party anthem.

[2:12:29] Alexa: I love how they brought everyone together for this performance.

[2:12:49] Andrew: It really captures the essence of the show—friendship and fun.

[2:13:09] Abby: I think it deserves a good ranking just for the energy alone.

[2:13:29] Alexa: Definitely! It's hard not to smile while watching it.

[2:13:49] Andrew: So, to wrap up, we have "It's Not Unusual" at the top, followed by "Landslide," then "Blame It on the Alcohol," and finally "Love Shack."

[2:14:09] Abby: Sounds good to me!

[2:14:29] Alexa: I love our rankings!

[2:14:49] Andrew: Awesome! Before we go, who do you think would be the new pope of the New Directions?

[2:15:09] Abby: Oh, that's a tough one! I think it should be someone who really embodies the spirit of the group.

[2:15:29] Alexa: I agree! Maybe someone like Rachel or Finn?

[2:15:49] Andrew: Great choices! Thanks for joining us today, Abby and Alexa.
