[0:00] Andrew: We've got a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.
[0:09] Andrew: There's no rhyme or reason to it, so don't get mad at me.
[0:18] Andrew: Glacket by Glacket, we'll rank everyone to see which song will move closer to spot number one.
[0:26] Andrew: Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
[0:32] Andrew: It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
[0:35] Andrew: I'm literally shaking, I'm so scared.
[0:38] Lina Knapster: Hey, look at me, there's nothing to be scared of.
[0:40] Lina Knapster: We're just Gleeks here, we're just Gleeks here, we're just Gleeks.
[0:43] Lina Knapster: Hey guys.
[0:44] Lina Knapster: Nothing to be scared of.
[0:45] Lina Knapster: Nothing to be scared of, we're just talking about Glee, there's nothing scary about that.
[0:49] Andrew: Oh, there's so many scary things about Glee, what are you talking about?
[0:54] Andrew: Okay, hello everybody.
[0:56] Andrew: I am so excited to be joined.
[0:58] Andrew: You already heard her voice, I'm including in the episode, we're scared to talk about Glee.
[1:02] Andrew: It's Lina Knapster from TV's Recovering Gleek.
[1:05] Lina Knapster: Hi, Lina.
[1:06] Lina Knapster: Hello, hi.
[1:07] Lina Knapster: Oh my gosh.
[1:09] Lina Knapster: I love you all, I'm so excited to be here.
[1:12] Andrew: Okay, so it was very cosmic that the last song that was pulled in last week's episode was none other than, I believe, your number one Glee song?
[1:25] Lina Knapster: Number one, number one.
[1:27] Andrew: Do you have words that you would like to share about, I'm not going to teach your boyfriend how to dance with you, Gleecast version by Gleecast at this time?
[1:35] Lina Knapster: Oh, I sure do.
[1:36] Lina Knapster: Let me, how to, I literally sent a message, I was listening to it and I immediately messaged you and I said, what the fuck, the Glods are out to get me, what's going on?
[1:46] Andrew: They hate you, they hate you.
[1:48] Lina Knapster: They hate me so bad, they really do.
[1:50] Lina Knapster: But then I sent a message to Ian, a really cryptic one, and I was like, you'll never guess what happened on Gleecast of the week.
[1:57] Lina Knapster: And he immediately knew, he was like, well, did it go on at least?
[2:00] Lina Knapster: And I said, it did, thank God.
[2:02] Andrew: Oh.
[2:03] Andrew: My question to you is like, that is the winner of your Glocket, yes?
[2:08] Lina Knapster: Oh yeah, I think so.
[2:10] Lina Knapster: There's no song that would take it down?
[2:13] Lina Knapster: I don't think there is one to me.
[2:15] Lina Knapster: I think there are some that would like, I would feel really sad about it.
[2:20] Lina Knapster: But I think just with my history with that song, I don't see that happening.
[2:26] Lina Knapster: I could see like maybe the Adele mashup coming for it.
[2:29] Lina Knapster: I could see maybe, I think maybe Landslide could make me upset.
[2:38] Lina Knapster: But I don't think that there is a song that would take it away from me.
[2:42] Lina Knapster: It's so packed.
[2:43] Lina Knapster: I'm constantly taken back by not only like how short it is, but how much they're able to accomplish in that time.
[2:52] Lina Knapster: I'm so glad you all mentioned that as well.
[2:54] Lina Knapster: Like I think in terms of, like I've always wanted a tattoo for that song, but I would get like YB.
[3:02] Lina Knapster: YB your business.
[3:05] Lina Knapster: Your business, exactly.
[3:07] Lina Knapster: I think it encapsulates everything I love so much about Glee.
[3:09] Lina Knapster: It's this song that I hadn't heard before I had heard it on Glee, which introduced me to the song and I love that one as well.
[3:16] Lina Knapster: I think it is like it's doing something really fun with the song.
[3:20] Lina Knapster: I think it is like if you play that song at a party, Gleeks and normies alike will drop it like it's hot.
[3:26] Lina Knapster: Like people go crazy for it.
[3:29] Lina Knapster: And that is exciting to me.
[3:30] Lina Knapster: I also think it's like it serves such a fun narrative purpose in the episode.
[3:35] Lina Knapster: Like with Artie and the teeth pulling with like Jesse and Finn getting in a fight.
[3:41] Lina Knapster: Oh my God.
[3:41] Lina Knapster: I literally love it so much.
[3:43] Lina Knapster: It's so stupid and I just I really it really is so special to me and I think it's I think it's my number one.
[3:51] Lina Knapster: It's really beautiful to me.
[3:53] Lina Knapster: They really packed so many people in there and like it's like it's upsetting to like hear like Jenna and Kevin when they're like, I just don't get it.
[4:00] Lina Knapster: And it's like yeah, it's just like Jenna specifically.
[4:03] Lina Knapster: I don't like Jenna.
[4:03] Lina Knapster: You're in that girl.
[4:04] Lina Knapster: You're in that and you're like giving your all to like the one two, one, two, three, four like that.
[4:11] Lina Knapster: Yes, I don't understand.
[4:13] Lina Knapster: I mean, I think the Gleeks that get that get it get it and the Gleeks that don't don't and I think that's okay.
[4:19] Lina Knapster: There's a divide.
[4:19] Andrew: Yeah, exactly.
[4:20] Andrew: Yeah, I'm so glad it went on but I seriously I was like the glots are fucking taunting me because I'm gonna be on this podcast in like t-minus 72 hours, right?
[4:31] Lina Knapster: And here you are.
[4:31] Lina Knapster: Here you are.
[4:33] Lina Knapster: And I'm glad I give her a kiss and I said and I'm glad she's in round three and hopefully I'll I mean maybe I can like fight for her someday.
[4:42] Lina Knapster: I don't know.
[4:43] Andrew: Yeah, I don't think that she's winning.
[4:47] Lina Knapster: No, I don't think she's winning the glacket overall.
[4:50] Lina Knapster: I don't think so.
[4:51] Lina Knapster: I think that she's making maybe like top 20.
[4:54] Andrew: Oh, yeah, right if it all the competitions work as they should I think that she could secure a top 20 spot, you know, I think so.
[5:02] Lina Knapster: I mean I can I just love her so much.
[5:07] Lina Knapster: I don't think it is the like textbook best song on Glee.
[5:11] Lina Knapster: It is like my favorite song on Glee and I and I and I bid her adieu when it's her time, but yeah, I'm glad she lives to see another day.
[5:20] Lina Knapster: I wish it could have been me that let her do it.
[5:21] Andrew: But right, right, right, right.
[5:23] Lina Knapster: I love that damn song.
[5:27] Andrew: Well speaking, okay.
[5:31] Andrew: So speaking of competitions, were there competitions that did not sit right with you?
[5:36] Lina Knapster: Yes, it's a small list.
[5:39] Lina Knapster: Someone said on the last livestream episode like I've come to terms with what the glacket is and it's not going to fit with my exact glacket and that's okay.
[5:50] Lina Knapster: And I but so I just want to give a kiss on the head to these and I understand why some of these didn't make it.
[5:56] Lina Knapster: But you're being nice about it, which I appreciate.
[5:58] Andrew: Thank you.
[5:59] Lina Knapster: I also I am I guess nice I guess I don't know but I mean I just like understand that like one of the main ones that I want to bring up today is locked out of heaven versus light up the world.
[6:13] Lina Knapster: Her yeah me because I don't think that I understand locked out of heaven.
[6:17] Lina Knapster: Yeah, and I mean, maybe I'm the only one who gets it.
[6:21] Lina Knapster: It is one of my most streamed songs from Glee, which is so I guess so random.
[6:27] Lina Knapster: I didn't realize I need to know and I mean, I understand and I also I hate to say it.
[6:36] Lina Knapster: I like the I like the original songs for what they are.
[6:40] Lina Knapster: I think they're silly.
[6:41] Lina Knapster: I think they're fun.
[6:43] Lina Knapster: I don't know that they're my favorite thing that Glee ever did.
[6:46] Lina Knapster: Yeah, but I like light up the world, but I just love locked out of heaven.
[6:50] Lina Knapster: I think it is such fun.
[6:52] Lina Knapster: I guess there's something I there's something about a school dance number that I love.
[6:56] Lina Knapster: I'm seeing a through line here.
[6:58] Lina Knapster: Yeah, yeah, yeah, and I just think like the the harmonies are so good.
[7:01] Lina Knapster: They all sound so fun and like all of the girls like slamming their the microphone microphone's on the ground stage.
[7:08] Lina Knapster: Yes, I just love it so much and it genuinely makes me so happy and another song that I like anytime like a party.
[7:17] Lina Knapster: I guess I'm playing a lot of Glee songs at my parties, but it's just like it gets I don't know.
[7:21] Lina Knapster: It just really makes me so happy to hear so I love it.
[7:24] Lina Knapster: And you know what? I understand that it can't go on to round three.
[7:27] Lina Knapster: So I give her a kiss on the head and I I'm good with her not moving on.
[7:32] Lina Knapster: She's listening right now and she feels so soon.
[7:35] Andrew: Yeah.
[7:35] Lina Knapster: What I love.
[7:37] Lina Knapster: I just love them and then I know you're all chomping at the bit to hear my thoughts on mindgate and oh, yeah, you're waiting.
[7:48] Lina Knapster: We were like wait Lina actually needs to partake in this conversation.
[7:51] Lina Knapster: Everybody else partook in the conversation is like literally over.
[7:55] Lina Knapster: I know she's literally back.
[7:57] Lina Knapster: I love referring to the all the Glee songs with she her pronouns.
[8:00] Lina Knapster: I think that's sweet.
[8:03] Lina Knapster: I feel like there was last week.
[8:03] Lina Knapster: We there was like a specific song that we were like, no, that's a man.
[8:08] Andrew: I forget what song it was in the episode that it was like,
[8:11] Andrew: No was it Oh Paradise by the dashboard light.
[8:14] Lina Knapster: That's oh, yeah him pronouns.
[8:17] Lina Knapster: Oh, that's he him.
[8:21] Lina Knapster: Yeah, I think there are a few that are humans for sure.
[8:23] Lina Knapster: Yeah, but they're for the most part she her yes.
[8:25] Lina Knapster: Yeah, mine she her for sure.
[8:32] Lina Knapster: But obviously I mean obviously I it's my partner in crime and love of my life and he and other my love of my life you Zach Ian and true.
[8:37] Lina Knapster: I understood what you all said.
[8:39] Lina Knapster: I really I understood it and I it is like the heart of the show is the Glee Club specifically and I understand what you said and so I respect that decision.
[8:51] Lina Knapster: I am however so glad that mine is back.
[8:54] Lina Knapster: Thank you literal God.
[8:57] Lina Knapster: So yeah, that's my thought on that.
[8:59] Lina Knapster: She's back in a big way and I feel like when these songs come back it adds so much pressure for them in future rounds.
[9:07] Andrew: Yeah, I was hearing you say that.
[9:08] Andrew: Yeah, it's like okay now it feels like now we need to continue the legacy of mine because of how much this moment meant, you know, totally.
[9:18] Lina Knapster: Yeah.
[9:19] Lina Knapster: Oh my gosh.
[9:19] Lina Knapster: Yeah, like how far is mine going to make it after this like huge stir that she is made?
[9:24] Lina Knapster: I don't know.
[9:25] Lina Knapster: You know what? There were like multiple episodes named after this entire debacle.
[9:28] Lina Knapster: Yeah, literally mind gate mind gate.
[9:31] Lina Knapster: What was the other one gosh, I don't know but um, yeah, what other ones come to mind?
[9:36] Lina Knapster: Are there any other ones of my grievances?
[9:40] Lina Knapster: Yeah, I was sad to see Born This Way didn't make it through just I think like icon of all icons.
[9:48] Lina Knapster: I love Born This Way so much.
[9:50] Lina Knapster: Yeah, so I was sad to see her go, but I understand she can't make it, you know,
[9:59] Andrew: You're not like a we are young hater.
[10:02] Lina Knapster: No, I don't think so.
[10:03] Lina Knapster: No, I just love Born This Way so much.
[10:06] Lina Knapster: It really means a lot to me.
[10:07] Lina Knapster: I know that like Allison Dodge is oh gosh.
[10:10] Lina Knapster: This is so not fair for me to say publicly on her behalf, but I feel like she has said that she is a we are young hater.
[10:17] Lina Knapster: She doesn't get her like I do and I feel like that is like a divisive song for some reason that I'm not understanding that makes me emo.
[10:28] Andrew: Yeah.
[10:29] Lina Knapster: Yeah, so I don't know but Born This Way I love it.
[10:33] Lina Knapster: I love the Jenna and Amber and Chris vocals.
[10:35] Lina Knapster: I think it's so clean.
[10:36] Lina Knapster: I think it's cute.
[10:38] Lina Knapster: I think it was a nasty work competition.
[10:40] Andrew: And oh, yeah, and honestly, you're only gonna get more of those.
[10:43] Lina Knapster: So I've got mad respect for everything that's happening.
[10:46] Lina Knapster: I mean, but I just like to talk about Born This Way a little like yes being like a young queer kid and like seeing that I think changed my fucking brain chemistry.
[10:57] Lina Knapster: Like I am forever.
[10:58] Lina Knapster: I have been changed for good.
[11:00] Andrew: Oh, hello.
[11:01] Lina Knapster: Because I'm born this way.
[11:02] Andrew: Yeah.
[11:03] Andrew: Hello.
[11:04] Lina Knapster: Those are those are my main guy.
[11:06] Lina Knapster: Those are my main Matt Glackett grievances.
[11:07] Lina Knapster: Those are the ones I wrote down.
[11:08] Andrew: So yes that no, I think but I love I love you.
[11:11] Lina Knapster: Glackett.
[11:12] Lina Knapster: I respect you.
[11:14] Lina Knapster: The Glackett season respects you too.
[11:16] Andrew: I feel like you said to hear that that's a great call out to be like, yeah, I to be like, okay Born This Way was such a moment for like,
[11:25] Andrew: I don't know.
[11:26] Andrew: We're like the same age.
[11:27] Lina Knapster: Yes.
[11:28] Lina Knapster: Yes.
[11:28] Lina Knapster: Yeah, I think when did you graduate high school?
[11:30] Andrew: I graduated in 2014.
[11:32] Lina Knapster: I graduated in 15.
[11:33] Andrew: So yeah.
[11:33] Andrew: Okay.
[11:34] Andrew: Yeah.
[11:34] Lina Knapster: So like it to like have this group of fictional teens have conversations saying about these topics.
[11:42] Lina Knapster: I'm like, this is so important.
[11:43] Lina Knapster: So I feel like you know what I need to pay my respects to Born This Way in that regard.
[11:48] Andrew: Yeah, so important.
[11:49] Lina Knapster: Yeah.
[11:50] Lina Knapster: Lay a flower on her grave.
[11:52] Lina Knapster: Yeah, died this way.
[11:54] Andrew: Yeah.
[11:57] Andrew: Gosh.
[11:58] Andrew: All right.
[11:58] Andrew: Well, is there anything else that you would like to discuss the Wicked?
[12:01] Lina Knapster: I mean, I feel like last week.
[12:03] Lina Knapster: I mean, it's unfortunate that I recorded this conversation this episode which involved a conversation about Wicked that will release like a week or two after the Wicked movie premiere.
[12:16] Andrew: Oh, right.
[12:17] Lina Knapster: I loved it.
[12:18] Lina Knapster: I am my gosh.
[12:20] Andrew: What are your overall thoughts?
[12:23] Lina Knapster: I was so scared.
[12:24] Lina Knapster: Oh my god.
[12:25] Lina Knapster: I literally I've been loving Wicked for like 20 years.
[12:28] Lina Knapster: I am so obsessed with her.
[12:30] Lina Knapster: It's crazy.
[12:31] Lina Knapster: Anytime I get a chance to see Wicked.
[12:33] Lina Knapster: I'm seeing Wicked.
[12:34] Lina Knapster: I've seen like so many bootlegs.
[12:37] Lina Knapster: I seriously she is like a Wicked is she her as well?
[12:42] Lina Knapster: Yeah.
[12:42] Lina Knapster: Oh, no, of course.
[12:43] Lina Knapster: There's no question.
[12:44] Lina Knapster: But she's that like she is Wicked is everything to me.
[12:48] Lina Knapster: Like I really just love Wicked so much.
[12:50] Lina Knapster: So I was really scared and like I have been involved in the drama.
[12:55] Lina Knapster: That is like the 20-year pushback that has like I remember being I went to Universal Studios in like 2008 and they put up a big poster of Wicked like on the stairs because they just announced for Wicked because they announced that the they had just purchased the right.
[13:13] Lina Knapster: Oh, okay.
[13:15] Lina Knapster: They were like we're getting a Wicked movie in the next five years and then it got pushed back and pushed back and pushed back.
[13:19] Lina Knapster: So I've been like in the trenches with this woman this woman being Elphaba Thropp.
[13:26] Lina Knapster: So I was just really scared and I it felt so good for this story.
[13:34] Lina Knapster: I love so much to be treated with such love and respect and oh my god.
[13:39] Lina Knapster: I literally could cry talking about it right now.
[13:41] Lina Knapster: I seriously loved it so much.
[13:43] Andrew: No, I feel like I've I've just like in the past like 48 hours like kind of gotten past.
[13:49] Andrew: I'm sure I'll be back but like I've gotten past like the thought of like every time that I would think about this movie or just like entire franchise.
[13:58] Andrew: I would just like start crying.
[14:00] Lina Knapster: Oh, yeah, which is the gayest thing of all time.
[14:02] Lena: I don't know what it was. There were three times that I cried during the movie. You're a crier too, yes?
[14:16] Andrew: Oh, I'm a...
[14:17] Lena: Yes. And that's... To talk about crying for just a minute, to see two women cry so openly all the time, like, makes me feel so seen. I was crying from beginning to end each time I've seen it. Oh, I'm a huge crier. I cried at the very, very beginning. There was something... Because I'll cry at beautiful things mostly. I'm a very big happy crier. If something moves me to a point of so much happiness, I'm crying. And there was something about the little munchkin boy running through the poppies right at the beginning.
[14:49] Andrew: Oh my God, yes.
[14:50] Lena: I was like, this is so stunning and just beautiful. And just the entire munchkin land set.
[14:58] Andrew: Oh my God.
[14:59] Lena: Oh my God. They put so much care into this.
[15:02] Andrew: Yes.
[15:03] Lena: Ooh. And... Nine million tulips. Jesus Christ.
[15:08] Andrew: Nine million tears. Exactly. And like, No One Mourns the Wicked. We could go off into an entire Wicked podcast right now. But like, No One Mourns the Wicked wasn't... I don't know about you, what your relationship with that song was before the film. But that wasn't a song that really stood out to me.
[15:25] Lena: No, I'm usually like a thank goodness Glinda kind of person.
[15:28] Andrew: Absolutely. Yeah. So I don't really think about No One Mourns the Wicked, but I totally agree. It like struck a damn chord with me.
[15:35] Lena: It's so good. I am like, oh, it's... Yeah, I'm going back to the cry plays. It was that Wizard and I made me cry and also the, spoiler alert, Young Elphaba at the very end.
[15:50] Andrew: Oh my God. Yes.
[15:52] Lena: It was like, my reaction was like, if they did in any other movie, it would feel like cheap and unearned.
[16:00] Andrew: Yes, I understand that.
[16:01] Lena: But like, this, I don't know what it was, the relationship, the fact that so much care was evidently put into this, that I was like, that hit so hard. Loved it.
[16:10] Andrew: I totally agree. I totally agree. Oh my God, I seriously loved it so much. What were other moments that I was crying? I mean, literally like the hearing the, like the monkey theme in the beginning. I think that's when I, and seeing, did you see it in 3D?
[16:28] Lena: I saw it, like the first screening in IMAX and then I saw it again on Thanksgiving in Dolby.
[16:35] Andrew: OK, cool. I honestly, I have only seen it in 3D really randomly. That's just been the only times that has worked out for me.
[16:42] Lena: When you say 3D, do you, are you actually putting on the glasses or what do you mean by 3D?
[16:46] Andrew: Oh, she's...
[16:48] Lena: I've got the glasses right here.
[16:49] Andrew: Hell yeah.
[16:50] Lena: I've got the glasses right here.
[16:52] Andrew: OK.
[16:53] Lena: Yes. So, but honestly, I usually am a 3D movie hater and actually it was so beautiful. Like even the, in the beginning, the hat that sits on like the water was kind of a little forward. I was like, oh, I'm in.
[17:07] Andrew: Oh, I'm in.
[17:08] Lena: That's all it took.
[17:09] Andrew: That's all it took.
[17:10] Lena: Oh, I was like, oh, hell yeah. And even like the monkeys, I seriously, I was locked the fuck in. It was so amazing. And I also seeing, in Wizard and I, seeing the vision on the wizard's face that we had just previously seen in No One Mourns the Wicked, I...
[17:29] Andrew: That's the moment for me.
[17:30] Lena: Oh my God. Oh my God. Don't, we're not going to go to that. We're not going to go to that place together. However, but it's like, I know you and I, we both have been singing Wizard. Wizard and I was like a seventh grade, seventh or I think eighth grade, like musical audition. I sang that.
[17:48] Andrew: Oh yeah. I love that.
[17:49] Lena: Musical audition. And I got ensemble. But Wizard has meant something to me for so long. And obviously like I clocked the dramatic irony of those lyrics, but something about seeing Cynthia sing it, I was like, it hit an entirely different way.
[18:08] Andrew: Oh, I, and I told, I literally, and to talk about, to hold space for Defying Gravity for just a second, that's how I felt about Defying Gravity. It felt like I had never, ever heard it before in my entire life. And I, like, I also have sung all these songs a million times. Like they have a previous meaning for me. And it felt like I, my eyes were open and they can never be closed again.
[18:34] Lena: That so beautifully put. They can never be closed again.
[18:40] Andrew: I can't fucking close my eyes, you guys.
[18:42] Lena: Right. Oh gosh.
[18:44] Andrew: No, seriously. I loved it so much. And it felt, I don't know, it just felt so good to love something that much. And then to see other people love it that much and like the team love it that much. Oh my God. It's just like, I was like, it's actually just, I'm actually just eight years old sitting in this chair, like eating popcorn. And I, it was so awesome. I can't even put it into words. I loved it so much.
[19:11] Lena: And I'm just the, the last thing that I'll say is that I'm just like, so glad, and I'm sure that you feel a similar way that it's like, I'm so glad that it like, it feels validating to me to see how much like, even people that are not familiar with the franchise, seeing it for the first time, excited to see it for the first time. And then to see them being like, oh my God, like being like obsessed for it with it. You know?
[19:34] Andrew: Yes. Oh my gosh. I love it. It's like kind of a moment right now. I know.
[19:38] Lena: Yeah. That it's like, I don't feel like protective about it. That it's like, like a hipster thing at all, because you can't be like a hipster about it. That's just so annoying. It's like, I'm glad that like, you're also enjoying it. Like these people that I already love, that they're like, okay, they're, they're loving something with me.
[19:56] Andrew: I totally agree. I took a bunch of family members who had like, never seen Wicked before, and they were asking me all these questions. And I was like, God, people are finally asking me questions about Wicked.
[20:06] Lena: I have been storing this information for years.
[20:10] Andrew: Seriously, I've been sitting on this for so long. It was so nice. And also like, I also kept thinking, I mean, the first time I saw it, I saw it. And it was like, not my favorite movie watching experience. Like, I saw it with like 20, 10 year old girls, like really didn't give a shit about it, which made me sad. And all their phones were up. The brightness was up all, oh my God, it was actually so, I was crying out of rage. But there was a moment afterwards where I was like, but I'm so excited that these kids have Wicked. Because when I was their age, I was like, furiously Googling like the plot of Wicked. And like, you know, I didn't know, I had heard the music, but I didn't know what it was.
So I'm excited that a broader audience can watch it. So I was like, even if those children don't appreciate it now, I'm glad that they have that. So I'm just so glad that a larger audience can hear this story. And I think it could not have come at a better time. I love you Wicked forever.
[21:10] Lena: Forever. You know what? I'm still stuck on their eyes will never be closed.
[21:15] Andrew: Their eyes will never be closed.
[21:19] Lena: Their eyes, those kids, you know, they have their phones on, but they're still, they're still absorbing this.
[21:24] Andrew: Oh, they are. They are. Their ears are open. Their eyes, they're open.
[21:28] Lena: Yes. All right. Well, my eyes and ears are open to the hit foxtrot glee.
[21:36] Andrew: Oh, all too familiar. All too familiar.
[21:40] Lena: All right, great. I'm glad that we're joined here to glack it. All right. So the first Gleek that we will be pulling out of the chat is Ryan. Is Ryan here?
[21:53] Ryan: I'm here.
[21:55] Lena: Oh my god, Ryan. Hello.
[21:59] Ryan: How are you?
[22:00] Lena: I'm so excited. How are you guys?
[22:03] Andrew: Oh, so great. Do you have do you have wicked thoughts?
[22:07] Ryan: Oh god, too many. I've said three times already. Yeah, I got, I think, every single one of my friends and family to already see it. They're all massive fans now. And I am. I wish that I cried during it. I wish I had more emotions for that. But unfortunately, I did not. But I was, you know, I cried enough for both of us.
[22:25] Andrew: There's still time, Ryan.
[22:31] Ryan: The fourth time, the fourth time, I think, is the tier one.
[22:33] Andrew: I think so.
[22:34] Ryan: Yeah. Speaking of tiers, do you want to talk about Glack at grievances?
[22:39] Andrew: Oh god, I don't know if you're ready.
[22:42] Ryan: Oh, okay. So I have two lists, basically. My first list is, like, the things that I was annoyed by, by the decisions that were made. And the second list I have is opinions that were shared that I'm like, that's okay. So the first thing is decisions out here on my own should have beaten one of them to somebody. That was unfortunate. Thank you. And then Mindgate, sorry. I was on the mind side. And then I think Fire and Range should have beaten Like a Virgin. Wild, hot take on that one.
[23:12] Andrew: Okay, okay.
[23:13] Ryan: But only because of the Arty part. It's just the first 10, 20 seconds that I want. The rest of it can go.
[23:19] Andrew: Oh really? You're not here for the Sam part?
[23:24] Ryan: The second Sam and did Puck sing on it? Am I crazy?
[23:27] Andrew: No, it's just, it's Arty and Sam.
[23:29] Ryan: Damn. Yeah, the second Sam came on, I was like, oh, I'm gonna unplug now.
[23:32] Andrew: Right, right, right, right.
[23:34] Ryan: And then Spotlight. That was really sad. Spotlight over Baby One More Time. That was really unfortunate.
[23:39] Andrew: That's frequently brought up. Alina, do you have any thoughts on this competition of Spotlight versus Hit Me Baby One More Time?
[23:47] Lena: Which one won?
[23:48] Ryan: Um, Baby One More Time. I had nothing to do with it.
[23:52] Lena: Crazy.
[23:53] Ryan: You're thinking hard on this.
[23:55] Lena: I'm thinking. Let me pray about it.
[23:57] Ryan: Yeah, okay. We'll circle back.
[23:59] Lena: We'll circle back.
[24:03] Ryan: God, and then what's another hot tag? Oh, yeah, this was really upsetting. Home Lost Over On My Own. That's unfortunate.
[24:10] Lena: Home. Yeah, okay.
[24:13] Ryan: Yeah, the Kristen Chenoweth.
[24:15] Lena: Yeah, that's like a go to for me.
[24:17] Ryan: I love Home.
[24:19] Lena: Yeah, I love that song.
[24:20] Ryan: It's so good to me. But however, I think that the reason in that episode that On My Own went through was because you get a lot of introduction, Rachel, in that in that song, in that MP4, and that I think that that's pulling a lot of weight. Does that do nothing for you, Ryan?
[24:39] Ryan: I understand the sentiment. I just feel that sentiment in so many other of her songs in that first two or three episodes. And then Kristen Chenoweth singing one of my favourite songs, not meant for a white person, but that's beyond the point, just so well. And yeah, that's constantly in the car. I'm belting that one out for sure.
[24:58] Lena: Yeah, right. I mean, you saw Wicked three times. I mean, you can't turn your back on Kristen.
[25:03] Ryan: Apparently not. Yes.
[25:04] Lena: No, yeah. Anyway, that's a lot of my decisions. There's too many more. Let's not waste our time here. But then opinions specifically.
[25:11] Ryan: Okay.
[25:15] Ryan: Oh, God, this one hits really hard. The fact that no one is giving credit to I Look To You is devastating.
[25:22] Lena: I don't get her. She's another one I don't understand.
[25:25] Ryan: And I don't get that. First of all, vocally, but also just like anthematically, the way that it's performed is so epic to me. And also it's my sister's, like, she's, what is it, with us, but she has said when she dies, that is her song for her funeral.
[25:41] Lena: Oh, gosh.
[25:42] Ryan: The Amber version specifically. I asked her literally the other day, because I said, if I'm on this show, I'm going to tell them. And she said, yes, the Amber version specifically. So I don't know what to tell you.
[25:52] Lena: That is really special. I know that Lena, you just watched all of the, oh my God, I'm blanking on his name, the director.
[25:59] Ryan: Alfonso Gomez-Reynolds.
[26:01] Lena: All of his episodes, including Grilled Cheeses. I Look To You one that stands out?
[26:07] Ryan: I love that song. I really, really, I think that song is really special. I think the thing that stands out to me is the, I think it is a really beautiful song, but I'm thinking about, like, the plot that it's with.
[26:23] Lena: But I do love that. It's so beautiful. Oh my God.
[26:26] Ryan: And I have to back up towards that. Like, I'm aware the plot might have issues, and I agree with a lot of what you said on that podcast episode. In this specific scenario, I have the ability to detach the two.
[26:39] Lena: Yeah, I have a few of those. I have a few of those. But like, plot means nothing, it's just, or not even nothing, but like, you know, that the song is so special to me that it goes beyond.
[26:50] Ryan: Absolutely. And then also, I'll do two in a row, like Cry and As Long As You're There. Those two for me as well really hit. And I've heard both of those get actively hated against.
[27:02] Lena: Oh, okay. Yeah, because I was like, as long as you're there is still in this damn cop.
[27:06] Ryan: Correct. And that's the future. It's the attitude.
[27:09] Lena: It's the attitude leading up to As Long As You're There.
[27:14] Ryan: Okay, which sounds strikingly familiar to a Wicked song. Again, there's that Wicked tie-in.
[27:24] Lena: What is it? Because I have also been thinking about As Long As You're There recently. And I'm like, that's another one I'm confused a little bit about.
[27:33] Ryan: What about that song does it for you?
[27:37] Ryan: I think the tie-in for a lot of the ones that I like is that they vocally get a woman to do things that people aren't meant to do.
[27:44] Lena: I love that.
[27:46] Ryan: It is psychotic, the notes that they're hitting. And every time I listen to it, I'm like, God damn. And I'm trying to sit in my car and sing this shit. I'm like, well, I'm sitting down now. I'm gonna-
[27:54] Lena: Yeah.
[27:55] Ryan: Okay. Okay. Okay. I get it. I get it. I get it. Okay. All right. A lot of that. So thank you, Sunshine Corazon for that.
[28:02] Ryan: And then my next point, this one's going to be a really hot take. And I love the-
[28:05] Andrew: Amman is psychotic with his opinions half the time.
[28:09] Lena: Oh no, wait, what is he saying?
[28:12] Andrew: Every episode I listen and I'm like, you know what, I'll give him his chance this time.
[28:15] Lena: And then he says something like...
[28:17] Andrew: Oh, Amman needs to come back then, if he's really...
[28:21] Lena: Wait, what is an opinion that he's shared that isn't sitting right?
[28:26] Andrew: Oh, I'd love to reference one.
[28:27] Lena: Let me think of some.
[28:29] Andrew: I'm just trying to...
[28:30] Lena: Off the top of my head, I just know...
[28:31] Andrew: I actually can't think of one.
[28:34] Lena: That's so funny.
[28:35] Andrew: I'm truly blanking, but I promise it's how I feel, because every time he's on here, I'm like, oh, please.
[28:40] Lena: Hey, people might be saying that about me now, so who's the real shit talker?
[28:46] Andrew: Oh, no, no, no, no, oh my gosh.
[28:48] Lena: Wait, so what are we...
[28:50] Andrew: Are we rooting for...
[28:52] Lena: As long as you're there, are we rooting...
[28:53] Andrew: What are we manifesting today?
[28:55] Lena: Lena, you go first.
[28:58] Andrew: Anything specifically?
[28:59] Lena: Yeah, I know.
[29:00] Andrew: I forgot to ask you, Lena.
[29:01] Lena: I'm sorry.
[29:02] Andrew: Oh, that's okay.
[29:04] Lena: Gosh, I want to make everyone happy.
[29:10] Andrew: Not that, not that.
[29:11] Lena: Whatever that implies.
[29:12] Andrew: No, I'm just kidding, I'm just kidding.
[29:13] Lena: Do what a man does, do what a man does and just hit it with the wall.
[29:15] Andrew: Right, right.
[29:16] Lena: I...
[29:17] Andrew: No, I want to...
[29:18] Lena: I want to hear something fun.
[29:19] Andrew: I was looking at the Glocket.
[29:20] Lena: There's a bunch of heavy hitters that we haven't seen quite yet, so I'm a little scared.
[29:27] Andrew: I want to see some amazing vocals today.
[29:29] Lena: I want to see some, like, plot movers today.
[29:33] Andrew: And I want to, um...
[29:36] Lena: I want to cause a new Mindgate.
[29:37] Andrew: No, I'm just kidding.
[29:38] Lena: Okay, I think that's very possible with the amount of heavy hitters that we have.
[29:43] Andrew: Yeah.
[29:44] Lena: That's true.
[29:45] Andrew: I think we're due for one.
[29:46] Lena: Yeah, I think we're due for another.
[29:47] Andrew: I think we need another one.
[29:48] Lena: So, I'm excited.
[29:49] Andrew: Y'all like Mindgate, right?
[29:50] Lena: Let's go.
[29:51] Andrew: Didn't we have so much fun the last couple of weeks?
[29:52] Lena: I know I have.
[29:53] Andrew: Oh, Ryan, your turn.
[29:54] Lena: What are you...
[29:55] Ryan: Anything specific?
[29:56] Lena: I'm feeling like a Rolo.
[29:57] Ryan: I don't know why I feel like a Rolo.
[29:58] Lena: I don't know why I feel like a Rolo.
[29:59] Ryan: I don't know why I feel like a Rolo.
[30:00] Lena: I'm feeling like a Rolo.
[30:02] Ryan: I don't know why I feel like we haven't got one in a while.
[30:04] Lena: And I'm also just such a fan of hers in general.
[30:08] Ryan: We have, like, the Rolo's left, truly.
[30:12] Lena: We have Dromp, we have My Man, we have It's Awesome in the Becky Now.
[30:17] Ryan: Like, that's so Spooky Scary to me.
[30:19] Lena: Could you imagine Dromp vs. My Man?
[30:22] Ryan: Ooo, I know people...
[30:23] Lena: I don't like to think about it.
[30:24] Ryan: I have my answer, but that is scary.
[30:25] Lena: Oh, you do?
[30:27] Ryan: I love...
[30:28] Lena: Oh, I'm scared to answer.
[30:29] Ryan: Oh yeah, because a lot of people are like, Dromp vs. Dromp, that's what they want.
[30:33] Lena: But Dromp vs. My Man, ooo.
[30:35] Ryan: Oh.
[30:36] Lena: Nasty.
[30:37] Ryan: Yeah.
[30:38] Lena: I have my answer.
[30:39] Ryan: Okay.
[30:40] Lena: Honestly, let's let her move...
[30:41] Ryan: I'm just kidding.
[30:42] Lena: Stop that.
[30:43] Ryan: I brought it up.
[30:44] Lena: Let's do it.
[30:45] Ryan: I'm just kidding.
[30:46] Lena: All right.
[30:47] Ryan: Why not?
[30:48] Lena: Actually, question though.
[30:49] Andrew: Do you have plans for the next, like, couple Glackets?
[30:50] Lena: Like, do you plan on changing it up?
[30:51] Andrew: Because I do have an idea, but, like, do you plan on changing anything up rules-wise?
[30:55] Lena: I am going to, I think I believe, I believe that I talked about it in the last episode that I'm like, if I'm going to leave it up to the patrons, if they want to, like, are you talking about, like, voting songs back in?
[31:06] Andrew: Yeah.
[31:07] Lena: Well, no, actually, just in terms of, like, Glacket structure or...
[31:11] Andrew: I don't have any specific structure that I'm, like, I'm enjoying this sort of vibe.
[31:18] Lena: I'm curious.
[31:19] Andrew: You have thoughts?
[31:20] Lena: I have an idea.
[31:21] Andrew: Ideas?
[31:22] Lena: Yeah.
[31:23] Andrew: I think it's three and maybe not four, just because I think it's something that's meant for, like, the harder, harder decisions that are more frequent, which will come in six or seven or whenever we get to it.
[31:32] Lena: Yeah.
[31:33] Andrew: But I think the idea of, like, obviously, there'll be six songs and three challenges.
[31:37] Lena: If at the end of the episode, you get the chance to, with every episode, decide to swap things and, like, instead send two home and send two through, like, in terms of, I don't know if that makes sense word-wise.
[31:50] Andrew: So out of three challenges, you would then kick out a whole challenge and send through a whole challenge.
[31:56] Lena: Whoa.
[31:57] Andrew: Oh, wow.
[31:58] Lena: Just because that means that if there's two up against each other that are too good, they get through, and then two other ones that may be mid get to go back.
[32:04] Andrew: But that's also, then, a bit risky.
[32:08] Lena: That's galaxy brain.
[32:09] Andrew: And I agree that I feel like maybe that's not three, but maybe four or five.
[32:14] Lena: Correct.
[32:15] Andrew: Three is too early because, like I said, that's going to be really random.
[32:17] Lena: Yeah.
[32:18] Andrew: I don't think that'll work.
[32:19] Lena: But...
[32:20] Andrew: Yeah.
[32:22] Lena: Okay.
[32:23] Andrew: All right.
[32:24] Lena: You know what?
[32:25] Andrew: I'm going to save that.
[32:26] Lena: I'm going to write that down.
[32:27] Andrew: I like that.
[32:28] Lena: All right.
[32:29] Andrew: Well, anything else?
[32:30] Lena: Do you have any other ideas?
[32:31] Andrew: I'd like that one.
[32:32] Lena: That's it for now.
[32:33] Andrew: That's it.
[32:34] Lena: All right.
[32:35] Andrew: Ready for song number one of the episode.
[32:36] Lena: Ooh.
[32:37] Andrew: Ooh.
[32:38] Lena: Okay.
[32:39] Andrew: So which one?
[32:40] Lena: They're all the same length.
[32:41] Andrew: I wish that I could...
[32:42] Lena: Season four.
[32:43] Andrew: Here we go.
[32:45] Lena: You're going to know what it is.
[32:56] Andrew: Share sound.
[33:00] Andrew: And boom!
[33:01] Lena: We know what it is.
[33:02] Andrew: Oh my gosh.
[33:03] Lena: Yeah.
[33:04] Andrew: Hell yeah.
[33:05] Lena: Oh my God!
[33:06] Andrew: This is so good.
[33:07] Lena: I love her.
[33:39] Andrew: He's a big boy.
[33:41] Lena: He's a good boy.
[33:42] Andrew: He's a good boy.
[33:44] Lena: He doesn't play by rules.
[33:46] Andrew: Girl!
[33:47] Lena: Don't play the fool now.
[33:48] Andrew: It was only late last night.
[33:50] Lena: He was out there sneaking.
[33:53] Andrew: Then he called you up to check that you were waiting by the phone.
[33:55] Lena: All the world's a candy store.
[33:58] Andrew: He's been trick or treating.
[33:59] Lena: When it comes to true love, girl, with him, there's no one home.
[34:05] Andrew: He's a cold-hearted snake.
[34:06] Lena: Look into his eyes.
[34:07] Andrew: Uh-oh.
[34:08] Lena: He's been telling lies.
[34:09] Andrew: He's a lover boy at play.
[34:10] Lena: He don't play by rules.
[34:11] Andrew: Uh-oh.
[34:12] Lena: Girl!
[34:13] Andrew: Don't play the fool now.
[34:14] Lena: You can find somebody better, girl.
[34:15] Andrew: He's cold as ice.
[34:16] Lena: As cold as ice.
[34:17] Andrew: He's a big boy.
[34:18] Lena: He's a good boy.
[34:19] Andrew: He's a good boy.
[34:20] Lena: He doesn't play by rules.
[34:21] Andrew: Girl!
[34:22] Lena: Don't play the fool now.
[34:23] Andrew: It was only late last night.
[34:24] Lena: He was out there sneaking.
[34:25] Andrew: Then he called you up to check that you were waiting by the phone.
[34:26] Lena: All the world's a candy store.
[34:27] Andrew: He's been trick or treating.
[34:28] Lena: When it comes to true love, girl, with him, there's no one home.
[34:29] Andrew: It was only late last night.
[34:30] Lena: He's a cold-hearted snake.
[34:31] Andrew: He's a cold-hearted snake.
[34:32] Lena: Look into his eyes.
[34:33] Andrew: Uh-oh.
[34:34] Lena: He's been telling lies.
[34:35] Andrew: He's a lover boy at play.
[34:36] Lena: He doesn't play by rules.
[34:37] Andrew: Uh-oh.
[34:38] Lena: Girl!
[34:39] Andrew: Don't play the fool now.
[34:40] Lena: You can find somebody better, girl.
[34:41] Andrew: He's a big boy.
[34:42] Lena: He's a good boy.
[34:43] Andrew: He doesn't play by rules.
[34:44] Lena: Girl!
[34:45] Andrew: Don't play the fool now.
[34:46] Lena: It was only late last night.
[34:47] Andrew: He was out there sneaking.
[34:48] Lena: Then he called you up to check that you were waiting by the phone.
[34:49] Andrew: All the world's a candy store.
[34:50] Lena: He's a big boy.
[34:51] Andrew: He's a good boy.
[34:52] Lena: He doesn't play by rules.
[34:53] Andrew: Girl!
[34:54] Lena: Don't play the fool now.
[34:55] Andrew: It was only late last night.
[34:57] Lena: He's been telling lies.
[34:59] Andrew: A lover boy at play.
[35:01] Lena: He don't play by rules.
[35:03] Andrew: Girl!
[35:04] Lena: Don't play the fool now.
[35:08] Andrew: Uh oh.
[35:10] Lena: Look into his eyes.
[35:12] Andrew: Uh-oh!
[35:15] Lena: He's a cold-hearted snake.
[35:17] Andrew: Oh my god, I love her.
[35:19] Lena: So good.
[35:20] Andrew: Oh my gosh, who wants to begin the discourse?
[35:23] Ryan: Oh, so many.
[35:27] Lena: God damn.
[35:28] Ryan: I think one of the...
[35:29] Lena: Oh, what is it?
[35:30] Ryan: Gleitron said it right.
[35:31] Lena: What did he say?
[35:32] Ryan: Where did it go?
[35:33] Lena: Where the hell was it?
[35:34] Ryan: It was so fucking funny.
[35:35] Lena: Are we watching porn on Zoom?
[35:37] Ryan: Oh yeah.
[35:38] Lena: That was the one.
[35:39] Ryan: I was like, yeah, well, I'm eating it up.
[35:41] Lena: God.
[35:42] Ryan: Kind of, sort of.
[35:43] Lena: Yeah.
[35:44] Ryan: Well, it's just so...
[35:45] Lena: I read it in the chat.
[35:47] Ryan: It's so cunty.
[35:48] Lena: Oh yeah.
[35:49] Ryan: She put everything into that.
[35:51] Lena: And the fact that 11 episodes before this, Rachel was thinking she was sexy doing baby one more time.
[35:56] Ryan: I was like, what?
[35:57] Lena: Not the 11 episode before clock.
[35:59] Ryan: It was 11 or 12, I think.
[36:01] Lena: But I was like, damn, Rachel, this bitch ate you up.
[36:04] Ryan: Yeah.
[36:05] Lena: This is what you thought it was, yeah.
[36:08] Ryan: You thought.
[36:09] Lena: Yeah.
[36:10] Andrew: Gosh, Lena, what are you thinking?
[36:12] Lena: Cold-hearted.
[36:13] Lena: I love this number.
[36:15] Lena: It is, like, such fun.
[36:16] Lena: And just the whole idea of, like, doing this to, like, sexually intimidate Brody into, like, leaving Rachel alone.
[36:24] Ryan: Yeah.
[36:25] Lena: It's just, that's everything.
[36:27] Ryan: I just love that.
[36:28] Lena: I love her for that.
[36:29] Andrew: Oh, my God.
[36:30] Lena: It's so good.
[36:31] Andrew: Oh my God.
[36:32] Lena: I love, like, later on in the episode, with Kurt having the line of, like, did you go to Nyada and go up to Brody and sing a Paula Abdul song?
[36:42] Ryan: Abdul song.
[36:43] Lena: It's so good.
[36:45] Andrew: I feel like I've said it before.
[36:47] Lena: I know that I have.
[36:48] Andrew: But, like, every time that they mention back to a song, later on in the episode or series, I feel like that's extra bonus points for that performance.
[36:56] Lena: And it tells you that they knew that they were doing something campy.
[36:59] Andrew: Yes.
[37:00] Lena: Oh my God.
[37:01] Andrew: Yeah.
[37:02] Lena: They knew what they were doing.
[37:03] Andrew: Yeah.
[37:04] Lena: Oh gosh.
[37:05] Andrew: A Paula Abdul song, I don't think that's, in my mind, I'm like, that's one and maybe one of two Paula Abdul songs, and she eats it up.
[37:11] Ryan: Yeah.
[37:12] Lena: I mean, it's like the other one is straight up.
[37:15] Ryan: Straight up, yeah.
[37:16] Lena: Wait, what one are you thinking of, Ryan?
[37:19] Ryan: Okay, I'm giving grace.
[37:21] Ryan: I actually don't know any of the Paula Abdul songs at all.
[37:23] Lena: Oh, that's it.
[37:24] Ryan: So it is just one.
[37:25] Lena: But I'm giving grace to be like, maybe there's one in Glee that I don't remember.
[37:28] Andrew: But, like, in terms of, you know, what I do know, that's the fact that that was the only one and it was good.
[37:33] Lena: Yeah.
[37:34] Andrew: It's so good.
[37:36] Lena: I remember they, like, released this performance, like, early.
[37:39] Andrew: Again, they knew they were, they were like, ooh, let's give them something to chew on before the next episode.
[37:45] Lena: And indeed I did.
[37:47] Andrew: And I remember, like, I, there were, like, moments that, like, every time that they would release, like, a particularly good Glee performance before an episode, I would, like, pull my mom into the room, show, like, and be like, this is what's coming up.
[38:03] Lena: And she'll be like, is it, is it over?
[38:06] Andrew: Like, okay.
[38:07] Lena: All right.
[38:10] Andrew: Yeah.
[38:11] Lena: No, it didn't really stick the landing.
[38:13] Andrew: Jeff's siblings.
[38:14] Lena: It did for me.
[38:15] Andrew: What about the siblings?
[38:17] Ryan: I have an older sister.
[38:18] Lena: Yeah.
[38:19] Ryan: And she, I remember she specifically gave up after, during theatricality.
[38:24] Lena: Theatricality was, was the breaking point for her.
[38:27] Ryan: Damn.
[38:28] Lena: Yeah.
[38:29] Ryan: The fact that that's the one that was beginning again.
[38:31] Lena: I know.
[38:32] Ryan: Yeah.
[38:33] Lena: Bad romance.
[38:34] Ryan: I remember where I was.
[38:35] Lena: That was like, she was like, bad romance.
[38:37] Ryan: She was like, okay, that's enough.
[38:38] Lena: We're done.
[38:39] Ryan: But hey, her wearing the, like, fully.
[38:41] Lena: Not to put her on glass like this.
[38:42] Ryan: The fully, what's the word?
[38:44] Lena: The dress that Rachel wears, I would leave as well.
[38:46] Ryan: The frocks.
[38:48] Lena: Yeah.
[38:49] Ryan: Yeah, no.
[38:50] Lena: Oh, we have a jumper.
[38:51] Ryan: Got a jumper.
[38:52] Lena: Yeah.
[38:53] Andrew: It's great.
[38:54] Lena: But Coldhearted, what are we, I'm concerned for her because I really do love her a lot.
[39:01] Ryan: Yes.
[39:02] Lena: I feel like she is a Santolo that we're not, like.
[39:05] Ryan: Talking about.
[39:06] Lena: Talking about.
[39:07] Andrew: Definitely.
[39:08] Lena: And I think that she gets hidden a lot.
[39:10] Ryan: And I think that she's like, ooh, dare I say, she's a top five Santolo.
[39:16] Lena: Yeah, no, I agree.
[39:17] Ryan: No?
[39:18] Lena: No, no, I agree.
[39:19] Ryan: I think so.
[39:20] Lena: Yeah.
[39:21] Ryan: And I want the best for her.
[39:22] Lena: I do too.
[39:23] Ryan: I'm scared.
[39:24] Lena: But I'm excited.
[39:25] Andrew: I have hot takes on what my favorite Santolos are.
[39:27] Lena: So in my mind, now that I've just seen it, I'm like, why is that giving top three to me?
[39:30] Ryan: Is it giving top three?
[39:31] Lena: I'm trying to think of the other ones that are good.
[39:34] Ryan: What are the other, like, top ones?
[39:35] Lena: Because it's not Valerie.
[39:36] Ryan: I'm sorry, everyone.
[39:37] Lena: But that's not like.
[39:38] Ryan: It's not Valerie for you?
[39:39] Lena: Love it.
[39:40] Ryan: Deep, deep, deep love.
[39:41] Lena: But it's not top five for me.
[39:43] Ryan: I'm trying to think of other good Santolos that, like, could be up there.
[39:45] Lena: Like a Songbird?
[39:46] Ryan: Is that working for you?
[39:47] Lena: Oh, mine is actually.
[39:48] Ryan: Not.
[39:49] Lena: Mine.
[39:50] Ryan: Oh, yeah, Songbird is good.
[39:51] Lena: Yeah, no, Songbird would be there.
[39:52] Ryan: I mean, Nutbush City Limits is like.
[39:55] Lena: Oh, yeah.
[39:56] Ryan: The Santana fans with taste is what I've heard.
[40:00] Lena: That's the number one.
[40:02] Ryan: Watch it.
[40:04] Lena: But.
[40:05] Andrew: Oh, OK.
[40:06] Ryan: All right.
[40:07] Lena: Scared for Coldhearted.
[40:08] Ryan: We're going to see what she's against.
[40:09] Lena: Come on, Quench.
[40:10] Andrew: Big summer gap.
[40:11] Lena: Oh, nasty competition.
[40:12] Ryan: Nasty.
[40:13] Lena: Oh, I'm scared.
[40:14] Andrew: Gross.
[40:15] Lena: I'm going to cry.
[40:16] Ryan: Everyone get ready to throw up.
[40:17] Andrew: Oh, God.
[40:18] Lena: No, it's another.
[40:19] Andrew: Season four.
[40:20] Lena: Oh gosh.
[40:21] Andrew: Here we go.
[40:22] Lena: Oh, God.
[40:23] Andrew: Oh, God.
[40:24] Lena: Oh, God.
[40:25] Andrew: Oh, God.
[40:26] Lena: Oh, God.
[40:27] Andrew: Oh, God.
[40:28] Lena: Oh, God.
[40:29] Andrew: Oh, God.
[40:30] Lena: Oh, God.
[40:31] Andrew: Oh, God.
[41:03] Ryan: Sorry, I'm a really naughty person.
[41:06] Lena: Some folks like to get away for a holiday.
[41:10] Andrew: I'm like going to cry.
[41:12] Lena: Hop a flight to Miami Beach or Hollywood.
[41:19] Andrew: Ooh.
[41:21] Lena: But I'm taking a Greyhound on the Hudson River Line.
[41:30] Andrew: I'm in a New York state of mind.
[41:37] Lena: Ooh.
[41:42] Andrew: It was so easy living day by day.
[41:49] Lena: Out of touch with the rhythm and the blues.
[41:57] Andrew: But now I need a little give and take.
[42:04] Lena: The New York Times.
[42:08] Lena: Oh! It comes down to reality, and it's fine with me, 'cause I let it slide. Don't care if it's Chinatown, or on a riverside. Ooh, I don't have any reasons. I've left them all behind. I'm in a New York state of mind. I'm just taking a ground, on the Hudson River line. 'Cause I'm in, I'm in a New York, state of mind. Ooh, I'm in a New York state of mind.
[42:52] Lena: Okay, yeah yeah yeah. I could write a dissertation. I could write a college course about this song. I have my essay, yeah. Oh, it's so clean. It's so good. It's so lovely. I, gosh. It's, ooh. It's getting you ready for a season that it's like, you know, it does like not pan out to be, but the promise. Oh my god, yes. This performance captures the promise of what a great season it could have been. And season four, you know, I love, I love the majority of it. But like, it could have been, you know, this for, you know, 22 episodes. But, yeah, gosh. All right. Who has notes on New York state of mind?
[44:30] Andrew: My notes are specifically tied to the fact that, is this their only duet?
[44:37] Lena: Yeah, oh yeah. And first duet of the original, and then new Rachel. And it just eats. Like, both of them vocally, and also just in the environment that we're in, like, I think it's the perfect setting for them both to be in, that it works really well. Like, I just, there are zero notes for this song.
[45:00] Andrew: Oh my gosh.
[45:01] Lena: It's so clean. Like, right before this performance, that like, it's the different styles of both of these characters, of character that we've been following for an entire three seasons up until this point. And then this new character that we met just a few minutes ago, that it's like, okay, oh, all right, so we're doing the Barbara thing, but this new person is doing Billy.
[45:26] Andrew: Billy, yes.
[45:27] Lena: Oh my God. I think that's so inspired, and so fun, that it's like, oh, yeah. We're singing the same song, but we're paying tribute to two different people. Oh my God. And I feel like that's so telling of both the characters in that quick moment. I love. And I think back to like, hearing who the new cast was, like seeing who they were, and hearing that this episode was called the new Rachel. And, you know, thinking that Melissa Benoist was going to like fit into the Rachel slot, and honestly the new Rachel in general, like the competition or whatever, like seeing who the new Rachel is going to be, and then like, seeing how different these two are, and that is such a good thought Andrew, like paying tribute to Barbara and Billy, and it's like the, I don't know math terms, like it's like where they meet.

[51:33] Lena: Make it true.
[51:34] Andrew: Corruption.
[51:35] Lena: Corruption.
[51:36] Andrew: Corruption too.
[51:37] Lena: Me and my sister do the Glacket together in the car all the time.
[51:38] Andrew: I love that.
[51:39] Lena: And so we just have like 110 of our favorite songs.
[51:40] Andrew: Uh-huh.
[51:41] Lena: And like, Cold Hearted isn't on there because I go to Cold Hearted for the visual.
[51:43] Andrew: I'm not specifically there for the audio, even though the audio is obviously epic.
[51:47] Lena: Motivating, inspiring. Whereas New York is probably giving me more of that vibe that I'm going to listen to it more frequently, which then in my mind is it more weighty and so I just don't know. I will say that like, and I forgot to bring this up in the conversation around Cold Hearted and I know that I've already placed the vote against it, but in its favor, I will say that Cold Hearted encapsulates this new era of the New York plot that Santana is there and she's being utilized in such a way that like it feels so much more grand than any way that she's been utilized up until that point, you know, which is crazy because like this is a character that we've known for four seasons that it's like, oh gosh, this is a character finally in her element and she's just like, it's so good. Those first few episodes specifically of her in New York, I'm like, ooh, they're finally doing her right and like the best of the best. I don't know why they didn't do that earlier.
[52:43] Andrew: I'm so surprised they didn't have her go like episode like three or four.
[52:47] Lena: I think that it like, I feel like if Santana moved to New York right at the beginning of season four with like Kurt, then it would just feel like so like domino effect that it's like, oh, like then who's going to be next? You know?
[52:59] Andrew: Yeah.
[53:00] Lena: And I guess I say it because I just missed her early season four because she was only in like a few rogue episodes, and at one point when she was in Ohio, I was a little bit like, oh, boring.
[53:10] Andrew: Yeah.
[53:11] Lena: Yeah. No, but I mean, they do set like the groundwork and like the season three finale that I did expect her to move to New York very early on in season four of like when the conversation with her and Gloria Estefan, I'm like, I'm moving, like, I'll use that money to move to New York. And then they never allude to it until the episode that she finally does.
[53:32] Andrew: So does she have a name besides Gloria Estefan on the show?
[53:35] Lena: I seriously don't know.
[53:38] Andrew: I am a freak and I do know that she is canonically Maribel Lopez.
[53:43] Lena: So but she she'll always be Gloria Estefan to me.
[53:46] Andrew: Your mind amazes me, Andrew.
[53:48] Lena: Oh my god.
[53:49] Andrew: It's not good.
[53:50] Lena: It's no, it's being used for it.
[53:51] Andrew: It's wicked.
[53:53] Lena: No, we're full circle with the wicked story.
[53:56] Andrew: Yeah.
[53:57] Lena: Yeah.
[53:58] Andrew: Yeah.
[53:59] Lena: All right. Back to voting.
[54:00] Andrew: What are we thinking? Lena, are you set on anything?
[54:05] Lena: Because I'm still I feel like I'm still wrestling.
[54:07] Andrew: Yeah.
[54:08] Lena: I mean, this is how you want me to go to make it easy for you or it's like, well, do you know? Do you know what you're going to say?
[54:17] Andrew: I think I know.
[54:20] Lena: As upsetting as it is, I'm as pissed as I'm going to be myself tomorrow when I think about something else. Should we say it at the same time?
[54:25] Andrew: Ooh.
[54:26] Lena: OK, let's be spooky, spooky, scary. Ready?
[54:29] Andrew: Can I just bring attention to the chat?
[54:32] Lena: Oh, yeah.
[54:33] Andrew: They are.
[54:34] Lena: They are big.
[54:35] Andrew: I am.
[54:36] Lena: I think like a single vote for New York state of mind.
[54:38] Andrew: I feel like there are some of them.
[54:40] Lena: Oh, there are.
[54:41] Andrew: OK.
[54:42] Lena: So many.
[54:43] Andrew: I feel like it's just recently.
[54:44] Lena: Yes.
[54:45] Andrew: The last few have been a lot of Cold Hearted.
[54:46] Lena: OK.
[54:47] Andrew: All right.
[54:48] Lena: All right.
[54:49] Andrew: I lost it.
[54:50] Lena: I lost it.
[54:51] Andrew: I lost it.
[54:52] Lena: It shows what a what a warm heart Santana has.
[54:55] Andrew: Oh, God.
[54:56] Lena: You're right.
[54:57] Andrew: Oh, this is how your reaction is giving away what you want to vote for.
[55:05] Lena: What is it giving?
[55:06] Andrew: It's kind of giving the opposite.
[55:08] Lena: Yeah, I think I am going to vote Cold Hearted Snake.
[55:11] Andrew: Oh, OK.
[55:12] Lena: I know. And I mean, I say that with a heavy heart and I say that as a person who loves both.
[55:23] Andrew: See, this is why I think it's I think it is. I think Cold Hearted to me is silly, fun, goofy, exciting, sexy, amazing. It's very exciting to me. And like Bethany said, like shows like Santana is like a real friend. Like, you know, I think people forget that about her.
[55:48] Lena: Eduardo says he's at my door.
[55:49] Andrew: I'm sorry.
[55:50] Lena: No, but I mean.
[55:51] Andrew: Oh my God.
[55:52] Lena: That's so funny.
[55:53] Andrew: That's crazy.
[55:54] Lena: Come on in.
[55:55] Andrew: I'll make you tea.
[55:56] Lena: Join the party.
[55:57] Andrew: Please.
[55:58] Lena: No, I say that I love New York State of Mind so much. And I think it's so special.
[56:11] Andrew: It genuinely makes me really emotional and I love it. I think I will stick with it.
[56:22] Lena: And I say that with the utmost love and care for New York State of Mind.
[56:27] Lena: I know I said I wanted a Mindgate, but I actually take it the fuck back.
[56:31] Lena: I know I said I wanted this, but damn, it doesn't feel good.
[56:37] Lena: We say this every time. For the last three years, every fucking time there's a hard decision, we're like, see, we didn't want this.
[56:44] Andrew: Yeah. And I mean, it's so exciting. I mean, as a listener of this podcast, it's so exciting to hear the discourse. Being a part of it, it hurts my heart.
[56:55] Lena: It fucking sucks.
[56:57] Lena: But I like it. Thanks for having me.
[56:59] Andrew: Yeah, don't get rid of us.
[57:03] Lena: Ryan, all that to be said, Gleeks kill for a moment like this.
[57:08] Andrew: They do.
[57:09] Lena: Some Gleeks wait a lifetime for a moment like this.
[57:11] Andrew: This is where I become my own Amara.
[57:12] Lena: Some Gleeks search forever for that one special Santo line.
[57:16] Lena: For that one special Glack accompaniment.
[57:20] Andrew: I think, yeah. So, Ryan, do you know what you're going to vote for?
[57:25] Ryan: I'm still somewhat wrestling, and I'll share a couple more thoughts quickly.
[57:29] Andrew: Okay. I'm shaking.
[57:31] Ryan: Yeah, I know. The fact that I think, oh, God, the vocals in New York are better, but I am struggling because I'm not a huge fan of the reaction shots that they have in New York.
[57:44] Ryan: Because obviously, Cold Hearted only has one person watching.
[57:47] Ryan: But the reaction shots in New York, there's like, in theory, I can think of seven people I can think of seven people that I know are going to be watching.
[57:54] Ryan: Because there's like five watching the audition for Marley, and then like Brody and Miss, what's her name?
[58:02] Lena: Thank you, Tibidabo, watching the other one.
[58:06] Ryan: And so, I don't know. I just not, oh, my God, this is hell.
[58:11] Ryan: I think, I'm trying not to look at the chat too much as well, because I really don't want to get swayed.
[58:15] Ryan: And I will get swayed.
[58:17] Lena: Don't look at them.
[58:18] Ryan: Mom, don't talk to me.
[58:20] Lena: Hi, they'll tell you they're outside your house.
[58:23] Ryan: I feel like I'm going to get a jump scare, like in the Wicked movie, when all the monkeys are coming into my window, and I'm like, ah!
[58:30] Lena: Right, right. And it's just Eduardo.
[58:32] Ryan: It's just Eduardo.
[58:38] Ryan: Okay, I think I've made my decision.
[58:40] Ryan: I think that I have to vote for, oh, my God.
[58:45] Ryan: I have to go for New York.
[58:47] Lena: Okay.
[58:48] Ryan: I would so frequently listen to that one.
[58:50] Ryan: And it's just such a heavy hitter.
[58:52] Lena: I'm seeing a lot of yes, I'm seeing a lot of no.
[58:55] Ryan: Yeah, but that was going to be either way.
[58:59] Lena: Literally, yeah, either way, people are going to be pissed.
[59:01] Ryan: But you know what, there is still a vote back chance at some stage.
[59:05] Lena: There is, yes.
[59:08] Ryan: Cold Hearted.
[59:09] Lena: Okay, do you want to talk about what specifically made you reach that choice?
[59:14] Ryan: The only time I'm ever going to listen or watch Cold Hearted, because I just don't think about it enough.
[59:23] Ryan: Whereas New York, I think about more because I do listen to it occasionally.
[59:27] Lena: Yeah.
[59:27] Ryan: And so I think it was just a solid decision because of me personally.
[59:31] Ryan: And then also, I feel like I'm also weighing up the idea that like, I do think there are more Gleeks who are on the side of New York compared to Cold Hearted.
[59:39] Lena: And so if I am struggling with a decision...
[59:40] Ryan: You're being swayed.
[59:41] Lena: Stop that, stop that.
[59:43] Ryan: If I am struggling to make a decision, you know, then if I can help the Gleeks out in any way, then I will.

[1:06:39] Marina: And I had the realization a few months ago that the only song left on the Glackett from that episode is Centerfold Hot In Here, just by proxy of the Glackett.

I know you know how much I love you. But I just need to say it again. And I did clock that someone in the chat was, like, she's wearing that same fuck-ass yellow cardigan that she always spotted. It's great.
[1:15:03] Andrew: I think that it's unfortunate. I did clock that, like, obviously, like, I was under the impression that Gloria Estefan was here for this number. She's not.
[1:15:12] Lena: Yeah.
[1:15:12] Andrew: She's not here for that, even though she's in the episode. And then, obviously, Rachel's dads aren't in the episode, because they're not going to bring, like, Jeff Goldblum and Brian Stokes Mitchell just for her.
[1:15:20] Lena: He plays The Wiz. Hello.
[1:15:22] Andrew: Yeah, bring it back. The Wiz. I'm seeing Wicked, like, as soon as I clock off of this Zoom, I'm going to Wicked.
[1:15:32] Lena: Thank God. Freaking excited.
[1:15:34] Andrew: First watch?
[1:15:34] Lena: I hope you enjoy it.
[1:15:35] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:15:36] Lena: Oh my god, I'm so excited for you. I've seen the play, but not in the theater, so I'm so excited.
[1:15:42] Andrew: I love that. I hope you enjoy it.
[1:15:43] Lena: Oh, you're gonna cry.
[1:15:46] Andrew: Wait, can I ask where you're generally located?
[1:15:50] Lena: I'm in Southern California, so.
[1:15:52] Andrew: So you would not have been at my birthday last year.
[1:15:54] Lena: No, that's why I was like, I could have been in the live stream, and I'm like, I've never been to New York.
[1:16:04] Andrew: That's so funny, because I saw, like, you commented, and I was like, oh, Marina. I haven't seen her for a year, so we'll bring her on.
[1:16:12] Lena: So that's how I got to be on this Zoom.
[1:16:15] Andrew: No, oh my gosh, that's already proxy of having the name, the beautiful name Marina.
[1:16:19] Lena: I know that you and I, I'm pretty sure, wait, isn't your birthday in November?
[1:16:25] Andrew: November 20th, yes.
[1:16:28] Lena: Okay, mine's November 7th, and last year I had a birthday party. So that's why I was like, maybe I, maybe somehow we did like a, I told you happy birthday.
[1:16:38] Andrew: Were you, like, astral projected into each other's birthday party?
[1:16:41] Lena: Actually, now that you're saying it, that is what happened. And that is how we've met.
[1:16:45] Andrew: Yeah. Wow. I love that. So anyway, loved this one. I also don't really have that much to say.
[1:16:52] Lena: Yeah.
[1:16:55] Andrew: I don't think it'll take much to knock this one down.
[1:16:59] Lena: Him for me. This, I think, he, him.
[1:17:02] Andrew: He, him on Glory is he, him for sure. Just to set the record on the other songs in this episode. Cold-hearted, we're saying that's she, her?
[1:17:13] Lena: Oh yeah, she, her.
[1:17:14] Andrew: Yeah, that's she, her, okay. And in the New York state of mind?
[1:17:19] Lena: He, they, he, they, maybe.
[1:17:21] Andrew: I can see he, they.
[1:17:22] Lena: I was getting like, I was getting she, they. So I think they is the common denominator.
[1:17:28] Andrew: I like that.
[1:17:28] Lena: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Definitely they.
[1:17:30] Andrew: Okay. Totally. I think they is for sure.
[1:17:34] Lena: Right, right, right, right.
[1:17:35] Andrew: Yeah. I agree.
[1:17:36] Lena: Okay. All right, great. Any pronouns for New York state of mind?
[1:17:39] Andrew: I love that. I think that's great. And we can also agree that Glory Days is on its last leg.
[1:17:45] Lena: All right. Yes, he is.
[1:17:48] Andrew: Yes, he is.
[1:17:49] Lena: Okay. What is this?
[1:17:51] Andrew: Ooh. Wait, give us the pronouns first.
[1:17:56] Lena: The pronouns is... I don't want to be the authoritarian.
[1:18:02] Andrew: Okay, you don't have to.
[1:18:03] Lena: I know, that's a lot. No, I am. Can I tell you what song it is? And then we can discuss before watching?
[1:18:11] Andrew: Sure.
[1:18:12] Lena: The song is...
[1:18:14] Andrew: Chat, I want to hear from you as well.
[1:18:15] Lena: Four Minutes.
[1:18:17] Andrew: Four Minutes.
[1:18:18] Lena: Oh my God. Pronouns.
[1:18:22] Andrew: Four Minutes.
[1:18:24] Lena: Because I want to say she, her, but I am...
[1:18:26] Andrew: Yeah, I definitely get she vibes for sure.
[1:18:30] Lena: Yeah, but I could also see she, they.
[1:18:32] Andrew: I think she, they.
[1:18:33] Lena: Yeah.
[1:18:34] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:18:36] Lena: I like she, they a lot for Four Minutes. That really makes me happy.
[1:18:37] Andrew: Okay. All right. Great. I was going to say that, but I'm glad that we reached it together.
[1:18:42] Lena: God, I love Four Minutes.
[1:18:44] Andrew: Fuck yes.
[1:18:45] Lena: Oh, it's so good. Here we go.
[1:18:47] Andrew: Five, six, seven, eight.
[1:18:49] Lena: A minute, 37 seconds of pure bliss.
[1:18:51] Andrew: Clean.
[1:18:52] Lena: Yeah.
[1:19:11] Andrew: Oh.
[1:19:42] Lena: You already got it. If you thought it, it better be what you want. Time is waiting. We only got four minutes to say the word. No hesitating.
[1:19:52] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:19:55] Lena: Grab a boy and grab a girl. Time is waiting. We only got four minutes to say the word. No hesitating.
[1:20:03] Andrew: We only got four minutes.
[1:20:04] Lena: Fuck a four minute.
[1:20:06] Andrew: Don't be a pretty.
[1:20:06] Lena: Hey, Madonna. You gotta get in my heart. Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock.
[1:20:13] Andrew: That's right. Keep it up. Keep it up. Don't be a pretty. Hey, Madonna. You gotta get in my heart. Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock.
[1:20:23] Lena: Wow. I almost feel like compelled to just like, you guys want to watch that again?
[1:20:28] Andrew: Yes.
[1:20:29] Lena: Yeah. Oh my God. It's so perfect to me. Madonna, literally who? I only know Mercedes Jones.
[1:20:38] Andrew: Holy moly. And dare I say, also Kurt Hummel.
[1:20:42] Lena: Yes. I think it's one of my favorite like, oh my God. I think this is like one of the best times Kurt has ever sounded.
[1:20:51] Andrew: I love that. Sometimes I just give him songs that are just not, they seem like hard on his voice. Again, I'm not a singer at all. So what do I know? But this just feels like it suits his voice so well.
[1:21:11] Lena: Yeah, I love it. I love it. And I think that like also it works so well that I remember like not realizing this until like well after the fact that like Kurt is singing Madonna's part and Mercedes is singing Justin Timberlake's and I'm like, it works on so many different levels that fact that it's like, of course Kurt would be singing Madonna's part because it's like also like with plot that like Kurt is so excited to be singing Madonna songs. So it's like why would he settle just for the Justin Timberlake simply because of gender? Like that, oh God, it's just it's so beautiful and it's so it's just it's not matched.
[1:21:54] Andrew: It really isn't matched and in a way like I know that like I see the chat is like bringing up like Frugalicious which was supposed to be in the episode following in home and and I think just for like my sanity. I'm okay with Frugalicious not being in the series.
[1:22:07] Lena: Hey, hear me out. Hear me out.
[1:22:12] Andrew: Simply because for...
[1:22:18] Lena: No, no, no. I want Frugalicious really bad. I want Frugalicious really bad, but four minutes is so good that it's like that. It's like I just think that if we had them back to back that it would like it would they would water each other down. Does that make sense?
[1:22:33] Andrew: Yeah, I feel like we would have been here being like, well, we already have Frugalicious in the jacket.
[1:22:39] Lena: Yeah, I hear that.
[1:22:41] Andrew: Yeah, I wish I had her though. I love Mercedes and Kurt on the Cheerios. I think it's such a fun reveal and even like looking at everyone in the audience like and their reactions to them joining the Cheerios.
[1:22:54] Lena: Oh my God, it's everything to me.
[1:22:56] Andrew: Yeah, it's such fun.
[1:22:59] Lena: Yeah, I couldn't remember why Mr. Shoe is like like everyone's having such a fun time and then Mr. Shoe in the audience is like like giving them like a dirty look. I guess just I don't remember. It's just because he's like doesn't like them on the Cheerios.
[1:23:15] Andrew: I think that's like such a good shout out, Lena, that like this performance really works plot wise too because I feel up until this point like her, Mercedes particularly, Mercedes has been like kind of just like stealthy and just like not doing much and then to see her like cut to like we're in the gymnasium and there's a Cheerios number that Kurt and Mercedes are leading like comes out of complete nowhere. And I just think it was it was a really good utilization of these characters that I don't know. I feel like the backup of season one. They really found how to utilize some of these like more supporting characters.
[1:23:53] Lena: I totally agree. And that four minutes is a great symbol of that to me.
[1:23:59] Andrew: So, oh my God, how lucky are we?
[1:24:03] Lena: I know this this song comes on at work all the time and me and my other Gleeks are like, oh my God, you get this version.
[1:24:11] Andrew: No, I wish.
[1:24:16] Andrew: Yeah. It's really great. And this is another one, another bike ride, another, like, take a shot every time I mention these damn bike rides, that it's like, it's, when it comes on, and I'll reveal right now, this one hits even more than "Glory Days" on a bike ride. Of course it does.
[1:24:32] Lena: Oh, I can see that, yeah.
[1:24:34] Andrew: This song makes me want to run a marathon right now, just to this song. I have like a select group of Glee songs that, like, scratch an itch in my brain and make me, like, my whole body just, like, want to dance and, like, go, I don't know, then this is one of them for sure. I just love it so much.
[1:24:54] Lena: Maybe it's just because it's season one, but, like, it's so Glee to me, like, if I'm trying to explain, like, to an alien, like, what Glee is, like, this is in my, like, top five, as I do.
[1:25:09] Andrew: Uh-huh.
[1:25:11] Lena: It's, like, in my top five most Glee-ish songs.
[1:25:16] Andrew: No, that's a, that's a really good shout out.
[1:25:18] Lena: Such a good shout out.
[1:25:19] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:25:20] Lena: And I can't wait for us to need an alien Glee liaison, and we'll call you Marina.
[1:25:25] Andrew: Marina.
[1:25:26] Lena: You're the one.
[1:25:27] Andrew: You're on speed dial.
[1:25:28] Lena: You're the one.
[1:25:29] Andrew: They're coming any day now, at this rate.
[1:25:31] Lena: Thank you.
[1:25:32] Andrew: And also, I just, like, I don't know, tying it back in, we gotta bring it back to Wicked, of course.
[1:25:37] Lena: Of course.
[1:25:39] Andrew: I've been thinking a lot about, like, "For Good" Gleecast version by Gleecast, and, like, what about it doesn't really, again, she's still in this cup, so she could be pulled up next. But, like, that would be such fun. But, like, "For Good," to me, Gleecast version by Gleecast doesn't stick the landing, because I'm, like, Kurt, Rachel, something about it, and I feel like I figured it out, at least for me, I would have rather it be Kurt and Mercedes. I think that they are so, like, they needed each other so much in a more, I don't know, desired way.
[1:26:11] Lena: Then, then this project that we got.
[1:26:16] Andrew: Yeah, I feel like "For Good" doesn't feel special in the way, like, you can tell, and, like, the context is so, like, maybe if the context was different, but it's, you know, how it's, they're always, sorry, I'm, like, you, you know, that, you, that YouTube video, like, have you ever had a dream where you can do anything?
[1:26:41] Lena: Yeah.
[1:26:43] Andrew: But in the context, they're, like, he, he, let's just run on the stage and sing a song. That was the context, right?
[1:26:49] Lena: Yeah.
[1:26:49] Andrew: I just wish that maybe they, it fit in with the plot more. It would have, like, hit, struck a chord better. I think, like, "For Good," and watch, like, this, that "For Good" literally get pulled in this episode, and we are talking about it before we even get to it. "For Good" is, like, glee-coded so inherently, because, like, that, like, the history of that song is, like, Stephen Schwartz's daughter graduating high school.
[1:27:17] Lena: Do you know what I, Lena?
[1:27:18] Andrew: I do not, this is new trivia to me.
[1:27:21] Lena: Oh, gosh, I'm, then I'm gonna, like, completely butcher what, what it is that I, like, "For Good" was a daughter graduating high school. It is about, like, it would, the, that was the, I don't know, inspiration. And, and so inherently glee-coded.
[1:27:38] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:27:38] Lena: If I'm, if I'm understanding the history of this song correctly. I mean, I have sung "For Good" with other people in my life who genuinely have, like, been there for me. You know, I've been a theatre kid in, in high school, and I was, like, literally sobbing over that song. Like, and I think having it be, like, Kurt and Mercedes, like, two friends who were there for each other when no one else was, I think, I think you're right, I think would hit a little better.
[1:28:11] Andrew: I just think that, yeah, go ahead, Marina.
[1:28:14] Lena: I feel like Kurt and Rachel, it's just them, let's just sing a good song together because our voices, like, we're just really good singers.
[1:28:24] Andrew: Yes.
[1:28:24] Lena: That makes sense.
[1:28:25] Andrew: And it was, it was also, like, you know, I love you, Rachel, but, like, plot surface for Rachel to, like, put those two together.
[1:28:30] Lena: Exactly what I'm thinking.
[1:28:33] Andrew: With, like, no work in other, like, no work, they were just, like, all of a sudden best friends. And, like, forgetting about all the relationships that Kurt had just makes me sad.
[1:28:45] Lena: It makes me so sad.
[1:28:46] Andrew: And I think that, like, so much, I agree with so much of what both of you are saying, that, like, I, Glee, to me, like, the things that really bring me so much joy about this series is these, like, gosh, am I using this word correctly? Ancillary friendships, these, like, outskirt friendships that, like, it's not revolving around Rachel, that it's, like, I love, like, the little, like, Tina-Mercedes moments that we have, the Mercedes-Kurt, you know, the Kurt-Tina, like, that, like, we, those relationships mean so much to me.
[1:29:15] Lena: Yep, I agree.
[1:29:16] Andrew: To have Rachel be, like, an anchor on this song?
[1:29:22] Lena: Yeah.
[1:29:22] Andrew: I don't know. It just, it doesn't hit. So, not to talk shit about "For Good" too much on the "Four Minutes" discourse, but, okay. But Kurt and Mercedes is, like, one of my favourite pairings of all of Glee ever.
[1:29:35] Lena: Yeah.
[1:29:36] Andrew: And I love them. I wish, I wish we got more of them. They mean so much to me. And I, I, um, I, uh, my friend Sahar and I, uh, did Kurt and Mercedes in, uh, for Halloween in 2020.
[1:29:49] Lena: I love that.
[1:29:50] Andrew: Where we just, we just dressed up in the house and took pictures.
[1:29:54] Lena: I love that.
[1:29:55] Andrew: That's awesome.
[1:29:56] Lena: And so, yeah, I, I, I don't know. Like, I, I feel so much of, like, our friendship in high school was, like, that as well.
[1:30:04] Andrew: Yeah, I love that.
[1:30:05] Lena: So, um, when it comes down to this competition, though, of "Glory Days" versus "Four Minutes."
[1:30:10] Andrew: Uh, I think it's an easy "Four Minutes."
[1:30:13] Lena: Oh, I was going to say "Glory Days."
[1:30:19] Andrew: I'm just kidding.
[1:30:20] Lena: Oh, I was like, oh, no, I'm just kidding.
[1:30:22] Andrew: No, 100% "Four Minutes." I agree.
[1:30:25] Lena: Great.
[1:30:25] Andrew: Um, I'll do the third stab to "Glory Days" and we'll see them off.
[1:30:30] Lena: So sorry, "Glory Days."
[1:30:32] Andrew: Uh, it's going to be "Four Minutes" for all of us.
[1:30:35] Lena: Yeah.
[1:30:36] Andrew: All right. Well, Marina, it's so great to see you again. Um, our friendship means.
[1:30:42] Lena: Next time in, I'm in town. I'll let you know.
[1:30:44] Andrew: Oh, gosh, we've had such fun last time, too.
[1:30:49] Lena: I know.
[1:30:50] Andrew: Thank you so much. I do hope that the other Marina can pop in the chat and be like, that was me.
[1:30:58] Lena: All right. Well, thank you so much, Marina, for helping with this Galactic Competition and.
[1:31:02] Andrew: Thank you. Everything. Uh, see ya.
[1:31:05] Lena: Bye, gonna go watch Wicked.
[1:31:08] Andrew: Oh, have fun.
[1:31:09] Lena: Oh my gosh, have fun.
[1:31:10] Andrew: I will.
[1:31:12] Lena: All right. And we're, are we good to go into the final competition of the episode?
[1:31:16] Andrew: Yes, let's do it.
[1:31:16] Lena: Oh, the final one.
[1:31:17] Andrew: Let's do some more. Let's just finish the Glocket tonight, guys. What do you think?
[1:31:21] Lena: Honestly, I think we could do it.
[1:31:24] Andrew: Um, all right. Jack?
[1:31:26] Jack: Hello?
[1:31:28] Andrew: Hello.
[1:31:29] Jack: Oh, there's Jack. Hello.
[1:31:30] Andrew: How are you?
[1:31:32] Jack: Yeah, this is, uh, this is Ryan here to change, uh, um, my vote to "Cold Hearted."
[1:31:38] Andrew: You are also zooming in. This is a very Australian episode.
[1:31:42] Jack: It is.
[1:31:43] Andrew: It is very southern hemisphere.
[1:31:45] Jack: Oh, finally. We were really waiting for the, for the day.
[1:31:48] Andrew: Um, all right, Jack, what, the time has finally come for you to let out all of your Glocket grievances. We have discussed plenty on, on DM, but I wanted to be on a audio basis. What is the Glocket grievances you would like to bring forward at this time?
[1:32:06] Jack: Do you know what I'm going to say? I feel like you could probably guess my biggest one.
[1:32:09] Andrew: Oh gosh. It's so hard keeping track of like all the glisteners, like hot takes that I'm like, I know that you have a specific one that you hate.
[1:32:18] Jack: What is it?
[1:32:20] Jack: So the one that I just don't get, and it never gets brought up until I think like around the start of round two or like a few months ago, um, is "Start Me Up / Living on a Prayer" versus "Teenage Dream" season four.
[1:32:33] Andrew: Oh, of course.
[1:32:33] Jack: Of course. Yeah. I, I, I get, I get it. I get why, to an extent, why the season four version of "Teenage Dream" went through, but I don't get why you don't get "Start Me Up / Living on a Prayer." I don't get it. Like, it's got all the elements of like one of the best. I love that song.
[1:32:52] Andrew: But yeah, like it's a good mashup. It's got all like the, like, you know, the girls just being absolute bad bitches. It's like, yeah, say it is vocal.
[1:33:03] Jack: Yeah. I don't, I don't know. I just don't get why you don't get it. And I went back and listened to, um, the episode yesterday in hopeful anticipation that it would be cool today. So I'm prepared and I feel like, um, Nicole and Alison were like all for it, but you just didn't get it.
[1:33:18] Andrew: Wait, so who was the deciding vote on "Teenage Dream" going forward?
[1:33:25] Jack: Nicole voted for "Start Me Up" and then you two voted for "Teenage Dream."
[1:33:31] Andrew: Oh, shutting out Nicole Lamb. We should have known better.
[1:33:36] Jack: Well, okay. I feel the true gift of doing this entire exercise of glacketing is that I get to hear different perspectives of Glee songs that I, you know, I have my own opinions, but like what's coming up to me is like, "Cherish," "Cherish," "Cherish," "Cherish" is like kind of like that girl for me that I feel like I need to explain her to other people that I feel like "Start Me Up / Living on a Prayer" is on paper. All the, all the reasons that you listen, I should love her for whatever, for whatever reason I don't stream her.
[1:34:16] Andrew: So like "Cherish," "Cherish." What's your vibe on her?
[1:34:20] Jack: Yeah. Don't call me out like that.
[1:34:21] Andrew: Right.
[1:34:22] Jack: No, but I think, I think it's a fair comparison. Is it like, is it, is it the, like the genre of music that like maybe isn't as like, I don't know. We're trying to like figure out.
[1:34:35] Andrew: Interrogations.
[1:34:36] Jack: No, if it's "Start Me Up / Living on a Prayer."
[1:34:38] Andrew: Oh yeah.
[1:34:40] Jack: Because like "Start Me Up / Living on a Prayer," I think that you're right on the money that like it, um, I think it's the genre of music that it's, I don't like, I'm not regularly streaming, um, either of those original songs then.
[1:34:54] Andrew: I don't know if, I don't know. That's, that's my guess.
[1:34:59] Jack: The originals of "Cherish," "Cherish." Um, that's, oh, that's so that's nasty to say.
[1:35:08] Andrew: Um, no, but no, but "Cherish," "Cherish" is so important to me and I've said it over and over again that I think that people are sleeping on it. Diana vocal, Amber vocal, Samuel Larson vocal.
[1:35:19] Jack: And also, yeah, you get the Chord Overstreet vocal that like, I, I, the three of the four is not bad.
[1:35:24] Andrew: Um, uh, and so, you know, I, whatever. Next topic. Next black competition. What else do you have?
[1:35:34] Jack: So something that I don't think has ever been brought up and I don't know how much as like we can give to this conversation, but, and actually, you know what, given "Mindgate" and now that "To Sir With Love" has the, they both gone through, but "To Sir With Love" being at mine, I don't think that as a nation, a Gleek nation that we speak enough about the serve that "Gangnam Style" is. And I know that it's problematic. I know, I know that like, you know, like, and now we know from the, um, and that's what you really miss. Like Jenna had a hard time recording it. Like it's so inappropriate to like, you know, learn Korean, all, all of that. And, you know, as you know, most of the cast are not Korean. I don't know yet. So, but all that to be said, it is still such a serve. Like they, it's the best choreo.
[1:36:24] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:36:26] Jack: I unironically stream, like it is in my top 25. It is so good. And it was obvious time. Like, I know that, you know, what, 10, 15 years on it's like, and it was a joke at the time. It still is a joke now, but it's still a good song. Like it was popular for a reason.
[1:36:39] Andrew: Oh yeah.
[1:36:40] Jack: Um, and so I honestly think that I would have absolutely voted "Gush of Salt" over "To Sir With Love." Even though "To Sir With Love" is good.
[1:36:47] Andrew: Yeah.

[2:13:52] Lena: Just crying emojis each post.
[2:13:55] Andrew: Exactly.
[2:13:56] Lena: Yeah. Just 20 crying emojis.
[2:13:59] Andrew: It will be this.
[2:14:02] Lena: Uh, Santana, Naya specifically, um, they are, they're doing the audio medium. They're fanning themselves with both hands, like their arms.
[2:14:10] Andrew: And like Santana is like doing it like so sloppy.
[2:14:13] Lena: It's so good.
[2:14:22] Andrew: Uh, I love her so much.
[2:14:24] Lena: Um, but.
[2:14:25] Andrew: And not to like dip it into the, like the very sadness of it all. But this was a song that I really did blast more than ever. Like, you know, after Naya's passing.
[2:14:34] Lena: And whenever I watch it, it just really does. I don't want to go down into that hole too much. Cause I'm already.
[2:14:40] Andrew: Crying too much.
[2:14:42] Lena: But like, it's just really is. Fucked up the whole situation. And I just, it's so beautiful. And I'm just so glad that we have this.
[2:14:49] Andrew: Yeah.
[2:14:50] Lena: Yeah.
[2:14:51] Andrew: And while I was watching, I was like, is this better than.
[2:14:54] Lena: The rumor has it that I'm like, I could kind of like, depending on the day.
[2:14:59] Andrew: I could, I could go for this.
[2:15:01] Lena: For me it is, but I think rumor has it is my number five. So it's like very like neck and neck.
[2:15:07] Andrew: Yeah.
[2:15:08] Lena: I don't think for me it is, but I love this one so much.
[2:15:13] Andrew: Yeah.
[2:15:14] Lena: So I think they are close.
[2:15:16] Andrew: Is saying that rumor has it is better contextually. And I think that that's what takes it home.
[2:15:22] Lena: Yeah.
[2:15:23] Andrew: Yeah.
[2:15:24] Lena: Well, we're at the point.
[2:15:27] Andrew: I unfortunately know who I'm voting for.
[2:15:29] Lena: We're not.
[2:15:30] Andrew: I.
[2:15:32] Lena: I'm kind of like surprised with like how I felt.
[2:15:35] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:15:38] Lena: God, it makes me sick.
[2:15:41] Andrew: I know.
[2:15:42] Lena: I know that this is like, why maybe Andrew, you're considering not having songs be voted back in round three, because it is almost like an easy backup.
[2:15:51] Andrew: Yeah.
[2:15:52] Lena: In my head. I'm like, well, that's the only thing. It's just like, if we, if I voted for.
[2:15:57] Andrew: I'll survive, which is so like, you know, then it's paradise almost guaranteed to go through, but I don't know if survivor will go through if left to the fan.
[2:16:05] Lena: I don't know.
[2:16:06] Andrew: I know that it's well loved.
[2:16:07] Lena: Loves it.
[2:16:09] Andrew: Like just as much as I do.
[2:16:10] Lena: Probably.
[2:16:11] Andrew: Anyway.
[2:16:12] Lena: So, yeah, I don't know if that's an approach I want to take.
[2:16:14] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:16:15] Lena: I get that.
[2:16:16] Andrew: Yeah.
[2:16:17] Lena: I just checked and it's, it's.
[2:16:19] Andrew: Next episode after the competition that take place next episode, that will be the cycle of songs.
[2:16:24] Lena: So.
[2:16:25] Andrew: Yeah.
[2:16:26] Lena: Are there any heavy hitters like in the, in the losers?
[2:16:29] Andrew: Do you want to go through the practice of going through them?
[2:16:32] Lena: But is this, is this like strategic or is this almost like cheating?
[2:16:35] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:16:36] Lena: I don't know.
[2:16:37] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:16:38] Lena: I don't know.
[2:16:39] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:16:40] Lena: I don't know.
[2:16:41] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:16:42] Lena: I don't know.
[2:16:43] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:16:44] Lena: I don't know.
[2:16:45] Andrew: Because I mean, whatever I mean, who is keeping us accountable here?
[2:16:48] Lena: It's your podcast.
[2:16:49] Andrew: It's okay.
[2:16:50] Lena: Um, I think it's okay.
[2:16:59] Andrew: So the, the other contenders would be, um, listen to your heart. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger to find gravity season one. It's my life confessions. Part two. I'm so excited animal locked out of heaven. Telephone. All that jazz. The New York mashup up, up, up, whatever happened to Saturday night. The house is not a home. Hello. Goodbye. Drive my car.
[2:17:23] Lena: Uh, and then what do we have today? Cold hearted glory days.
[2:17:25] Andrew: And one of these as well as the next three as whatever happens next.
[2:17:32] Lena: Yeah.
[2:17:33] Andrew: God knows.
[2:17:34] Lena: Um,
[2:17:35] Andrew: Hmm.
[2:17:36] Lena: Oh my God. I, I am like, I feel crazy.
[2:17:42] Andrew: Horrible.
[2:17:43] Lena: But I got to follow my, I think that people are gonna be mad.
[2:17:47] Andrew: Maybe.
[2:17:48] Lena: I don't know.
[2:17:49] Andrew: I think that it doesn't matter because I think that I'm going to make people mad either way.
[2:17:52] Lena: Yeah.
[2:17:53] Andrew: Maybe.
[2:17:54] Lena: I think this one is, is dirty nasty and there's no way that.
[2:17:57] Andrew: Dirty nasty.
[2:17:58] Lena: You have to understand that.
[2:17:59] Andrew: Yeah.
[2:18:01] Lena: Um, yeah.
[2:18:02] Andrew: I was vibing.
[2:18:04] Lena: Harder.
[2:18:07] Andrew: With survivor mashup.
[2:18:08] Lena: Ooh.
[2:18:10] Andrew: Is that cause it came second though?
[2:18:11] Lena: What if we watch paradise?
[2:18:13] Andrew: Second.
[2:18:17] Lena: Should we watch them both again?
[2:18:18] Andrew: At the same time.
[2:18:19] Lena: Side by side.
[2:18:20] Andrew: Split screen.
[2:18:22] Lena: See which one your eyes track more.
[2:18:23] Andrew: Oh my God.
[2:18:24] Lena: The bubble dresses.
[2:18:26] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:18:27] Lena: Is that your vote?
[2:18:28] Andrew: I will survive.
[2:18:29] Lena: Cause then I like, I could then vote for that. And I don't know if I could live with myself.
[2:18:32] Andrew: Paradise.
[2:18:33] Lena: Not going through, but then could I live with myself and survive?
[2:18:35] Andrew: I'm not going through.
[2:18:36] Lena: I don't know.
[2:18:37] Andrew: It's horrible.
[2:18:38] Lena: I unfortunately know who I'm voting for.
[2:18:42] Andrew: People are saying that they're going to physically fight me.
[2:18:45] Lena: Oh no.
[2:18:46] Andrew: Stop the violence.
[2:18:47] Lena: What's going on?
[2:18:48] Andrew: No, this is well-deserved. I knew what I was getting into.
[2:18:50] Lena: Um, yeah, no, I'm standing my ground. I think that like somebody to, if it was somebody to love versus the survivor, I will survive. I would go another way.
[2:18:52] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:18:54] Lena: I don't know.
[2:18:55] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:18:56] Lena: I don't know.
[2:18:57] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:18:58] Lena: I don't know.
[2:18:59] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:19:00] Lena: I don't know.
[2:19:01] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:19:02] Lena: I don't know.
[2:19:03] Andrew: I don't know.
[2:19:04] Lena: Auto-medium?
[2:19:05] Andrew: I would go another way.
[2:19:09] Lena: I don't know if that makes sense to even bring up right now, but like that's kind of what's the inner working to me.
[2:19:14] Andrew: No I understand though.
[2:19:15] Lena: Yeah, that's the thing, like it's good. When I cast my vote, Lena, audio-medium, you were nodding in agreement, which was so spooky scary to me.
[2:19:26] Andrew: Yeah, you know that, I I'm also, I … I don't want anyone to fight me.
[2:19:34] Lena: I only want to make you happy.
[2:19:35] Andrew: Look, you know what? I think, I think if you, if you two are voting for Survivor, I'll survive. Like obviously I don't, my vote doesn't matter, but I think that almost makes me feel better about maybe slightly leaning more towards that.
[2:19:43] Lena: So you pushed me into the decision.
[2:19:48] Andrew: You would do a third vote for Survivor?
[2:19:50] Lena: Well, I could do a pity vote, but I started, you know, being on here saying that like in round two, I found myself wanting to vote more for like my, like my personal favorite over what I know is maybe in the Euclid universe, like the better, not objectively, you know, whatever.
[2:20:06] Andrew: And then like neck and neck and like in my top three. So it's like very much of a muchness, but I think that if, if we push Survivor through Paradise would probably beat out most of what would come next as well.
[2:20:22] Lena: Yeah.
[2:20:23] Andrew: Yeah.
