[0:00] Andrew: We've got a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.
[0:09] Andrew: There's no rhyme or reason to it, so don't get mad at me.
[0:18] Andrew: Gleek it by Gleek it, we'll rank everyone to see which song will move closer to spot number one.
[0:26] Andrew: Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week. It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
[0:35] Andrew: I'm gonna, I'm gonna record starting right now, actually. Um, okay. So, um, we're in good moods, and I'm about to break it real down real quick, because we're, we're recording this on July 13th, 2026.
[0:48] Andrew: And, I know, but I just thought, okay, can I just say something before we actually, okay, so I'm joined by both Allisons today, Allison Dodge and Allison A La Mode, say hello.
[1:05] Allison Dodge: Hello, hello.
[1:06] Allyson A La Mode: Hi.
[1:07] Andrew: Um, okay, so I was like, being like, really emo about it earlier today when I was like, seeing the posts about like, Cory and everything, and I was like, you know what's really beautiful is that me and Allison Dodge were together that day.
[1:16] Andrew: And I think that as a result of like, finding that connection between, between two people about this TV show, I was able to like, you know, years later that I was like, I really like this connection that I have with like, talking to other fans.
[1:29] Andrew: And so here we all, here we are all these years later, talking about the show.
[1:40] Andrew: And so it's, it's really therapeutic. And so I don't know, Allison Dodge, how are we going to do this today? How are we like, how are you referring to Allison D?
[1:51] Allison Dodge: Allison D, Allison A. I can be, you can call me Alla Mode.
[1:56] Allyson A La Mode: Alla Mode?
[1:59] Andrew: Alla Mode, however. I know, because like, I'm the only person that calls Allison, Allison. Yes?
[2:04] Allison Dodge: That's true. A lot of people call me Alli.
[2:06] Andrew: I refuse. But Allison Dodge, what do you, I don't know if we've ever, if we, if we have shared that story of like, that day. What do you recall?
[2:18] Allison Dodge: I think that we have. I think that we have shared the story, but I will always—
[2:21] Allison Dodge: I'm curious, because I was like, I was just barely old enough to drink. And so you guys are a little bit younger than me. So you, what, teenagers?
[2:29] Allyson A La Mode: We were 17.
[2:30] Allison Dodge: We were 17.
[2:31] Andrew: Oh my god.
[2:32] Allison Dodge: In New York City, we were both at the School of Visual Arts for a college pre, pre-college program.
[2:40] Allison Dodge: Less than like 10 days into knowing each other. Less than a week.
[2:43] Allyson A La Mode: No, genuinely, like, yeah, like maybe three or four days knowing each other.
[2:50] Allison Dodge: You came to my dorm, like, I feel like I was looking on Twitter, and we were texting, and then you came, knocked on my dorm door, and then I scrambled down from my top bunk.
[3:03] Allison Dodge: And we talked about it. The only really big thing that I remember from that day is that, and we've definitely talked about this on this podcast before, but I think it's kind of a hilarious thing to be happening on this day, is that there was a Marcus Butler meetup.
[3:17] Allyson A La Mode: Of course.
[3:21] Andrew: In Central Park.
[3:22] Allison Dodge: See, I don't know who that is.
[3:23] Allyson A La Mode: The YouTuber?
[3:24] Andrew: Okay.
[3:29] Allison Dodge: And so—
[3:31] Allyson A La Mode: We were already planning on doing that, right?
[3:33] Allison Dodge: Yeah, yeah, because it was the weekend, I think. It was a Saturday.
[3:36] Allyson A La Mode: It was Saturday, yeah.
[3:38] Allison Dodge: And I had convinced you to go do that with me, and so we had gone to Sheep's Meadow, and then it was kind of cathartic because there were other people in line to meet Marcus Butler who were emotional about it and talking about it.
[3:52] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[3:53] Allison Dodge: So I think that was important to be there and in that space, but really a wild ride.
[3:59] Allyson A La Mode: We have a great picture.
[4:01] Allison Dodge: I think that might have been our first picture together in Sheep Meadow.
[4:05] Allyson A La Mode: I recall this, Laura, your picture of the first time you, like, yeah.
[4:10] Allison Dodge: Yeah, it's my contact photo for you forever.
[4:14] Allyson A La Mode: I'm never, ever changing it.
[4:15] Allison Dodge: Not to make levity of the situation, but I'm visibly sad in the picture, probably not because of the Cory situation, but I just think it's funny that you're smiling in the picture, and I'm like, this bitch, she's smiling on this sad ass day.
[4:32] Allyson A La Mode: I had just met Marcus Butler, okay? I was at conflicting feelings and emotions.
[4:38] Andrew: Yeah, so wait, Allison Alamode, where were you that fateful day?
[4:43] Allyson A La Mode: You know, this is like, unfortunately, a core memory, Cory memory for me.
[4:48] Allyson A La Mode: Okay, of course.
[4:50] Allyson A La Mode: Me and a couple of friends, we were out for our friend's 21st birthday, and we had already been pre-gaming, and we were in line for a bar, and my friend's mom calls her and is like, hey, hey, Finn died.
[5:07] Allyson A La Mode: And then I see my friend look at me, and I'm like, what, what?
[5:10] Allyson A La Mode: And then she puts her mom on speakerphone, and she goes, say it again, mom.
[5:14] Allyson A La Mode: She's like, Finn died, Finn from Glee.
[5:17] Allyson A La Mode: And I said, what are you talking about?
[5:21] Allyson A La Mode: And I'm like, drunk.
[5:22] Allyson A La Mode: And so I pull out my phone immediately and open up my Tumblr app, and my whole dashboard.
[5:28] Allyson A La Mode: And I don't think I've ever had such a visceral reaction to a celebrity dying.
[5:34] Allyson A La Mode: I crumbled to the ground, low-key dramatic, looking back at it.
[5:38] Allyson A La Mode: But I sat, I was like, I can't even do it.
[5:40] Allyson A La Mode: I sat outside the bar while they went in and drank, and I was sobbing.
[5:44] Allyson A La Mode: I was like, can't do it, today is canceled.
[5:47] Allyson A La Mode: Because it was like, one, yeah, it was nighttime, I want to say, when I found out.
[5:51] Allyson A La Mode: Maybe like, mid, I don't know.
[5:53] Allyson A La Mode: So I found out the next day, because we were in Eastern Standard Time.
[5:57] Allyson A La Mode: I don't, okay, I don't know if we've talked about this.
[6:00] Allyson A La Mode: The night before, on, so this was like, Friday night, because I was like, religiously on Glee Wiki.
[6:05] Allyson A La Mode: Like, Glee Wiki was like, low-key my Instagram back in the day, that I would like, just like, be refreshing Glee Wiki to see what they were talking about.
[6:09] Allyson A La Mode: And, and so I was refreshing, and I remember like, going to bed, and one of the last posts that I saw, was that, like, there were reports that he had died.
[6:24] Andrew: And, and so then I was like, oh, and like, I literally, you can go back, and like, I found it before, like, the Glee Wiki archive.
[6:32] Allyson A La Mode: And you didn't think anything of that?
[6:34] Andrew: You were just like, oh, okay.
[6:36] Allyson A La Mode: I, you know, that's a lot, asking 17 year old me.
[6:40] Andrew: I don't know.
[6:40] Allyson A La Mode: That's so fair, that's so fair.
[6:42] Allyson A La Mode: I was just, yeah, I was sharing the room with three other gentle, young gentlemen.
[6:49] Allyson A La Mode: And so I was like, I'm just gonna go to bed.
[6:52] Allyson A La Mode: Woke up to the news, and then I was like, I need to be around Gleeks.
[6:55] Allyson A La Mode: Get me to the Gleeks.
[6:57] Allyson A La Mode: I remember the next day, I had to be at work, and I like, had my Glee playlist on Shuffle, and last Christmas of all the songs came on.
[7:04] Allyson A La Mode: And I was like, I was like, cleaning, I was working at Disney at the time.
[7:08] Allyson A La Mode: So I'm like, sweeping the floor, sobbing.
[7:10] Allyson A La Mode: The store's not open yet.
[7:11] Allyson A La Mode: And I'm like, last Christmas.
[7:13] Andrew: Christmas in July, truly.
[7:14] Allyson A La Mode: Christmas in July.
[7:16] Allyson A La Mode: But I want to say, like, not even a year prior, his band, Bonnie Doon, did a show in San Francisco.
[7:23] Allyson A La Mode: So I had literally met him not too long prior.
[7:26] Allyson A La Mode: So we have a picture together.
[7:29] Allyson A La Mode: And so I was just like, oh, man.
[7:33] Andrew: That's your close personal friend, Cory Monteith.
[7:35] Allyson A La Mode: My close personal friend, Cory Monteith.
[7:38] Andrew: Yeah, but he brought us all together.
[7:41] Allyson A La Mode: Love you so bad.
[7:44] Allyson A La Mode: And I'm also reminiscing our first time linking up the three of us.
[7:48] Allyson A La Mode: And I remember what the competition was, I think.
[7:53] Andrew: I remember.
[7:55] Allyson A La Mode: I do remember what it is.
[7:56] Allyson A La Mode: It was Something's Coming versus Clarity?
[8:01] Allison Dodge: Yeah, I was like, the Jessica Sanchez song.
[8:03] Allyson A La Mode: Or no, was it Little Mix?
[8:05] Allison Dodge: Wings.
[8:05] Allyson A La Mode: It was Wings.
[8:06] Allison Dodge: Yeah.
[8:06] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, wow.
[8:08] Allison Dodge: That's crazy.
[8:10] Allyson A La Mode: I remember being so nervous.
[8:12] Allison Dodge: I was so nervous.
[8:14] Andrew: No, that was iconic.
[8:16] Allison Dodge: Because then we made it.
[8:17] Allyson A La Mode: We were probably even more nervous than you at that stage in the scene.
[8:20] Andrew: That was five years ago, you guys.
[8:21] Allison Dodge: That's fucking crazy.
[8:23] Allyson A La Mode: No, that's not true.
[8:24] Allison Dodge: Is that true?
[8:25] Allyson A La Mode: Okay, maybe four, but five or four, like, at least that many.
[8:29] Allison Dodge: That is crazy.
[8:29] Allyson A La Mode: Because I had just moved into this apartment.
[8:32] Allison Dodge: Okay.
[8:32] Allyson A La Mode: Damn.
[8:34] Allison Dodge: Because I remember, like, Allison Dodge, you flagged it that it was like, Allison Alamode, it follows our podcast or something.
[8:41] Allyson A La Mode: Like, she's such a big deal.
[8:43] Allison Dodge: Like, she makes all these, like, these Broadway merch and everything.
[8:48] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[8:49] Andrew: Because your TikTok had come up on my feed or something.
[8:53] Allyson A La Mode: And I was like, we need Allison Alamode on the podcast.
[8:55] Andrew: And now I just make TikToks for fun about Broadway merch.
[8:59] Allison Dodge: I love it.
[9:00] Andrew: So what do we need to say about the Glockett, Allison Alamode?
[9:05] Allyson A La Mode: I always take notes.
[9:06] Andrew: You know I always take notes.
[9:07] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[9:08] Allyson A La Mode: What are your notes saying?
[9:10] Allyson A La Mode: Okay.
[9:11] Allyson A La Mode: I think, well, I had saw, was it in the Patreon group chat?
[9:17] Allyson A La Mode: Or maybe some kind of Glee group chat where we were comparing, like, the idea of comparing Ann Juliet covers to Glee covers?
[9:25] Andrew: Yes.
[9:26] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[9:27] Andrew: Yes.
[9:28] Allyson A La Mode: I mean, real quick, rapid.
[9:30] Allyson A La Mode: I mean, are you from, you've seen Ann Juliet multiple times, yeah?
[9:32] Allyson A La Mode: I've seen it twice, yeah.
[9:34] Allison Dodge: Have you seen it, Allison Dodge?
[9:36] Allison Dodge: No, it might be coming to Minneapolis soon.
[9:38] Allyson A La Mode: No, it's so fun.
[9:38] Allison Dodge: It might be coming to Minneapolis soon, this season.
[9:41] Allyson A La Mode: Oh my God, I was in Minneapolis and I was so busy.
[9:45] Allison Dodge: Bruh!
[9:46] Allyson A La Mode: I was there to see Bruno, I was there to see Bruno Mars.
[9:49] Allison Dodge: And I was like...
[9:50] Andrew: Not Bruno Mars!
[9:53] Allyson A La Mode: I flew to Minneapolis to see Bruno Mars.
[9:55] Allyson A La Mode: I flew to Minneapolis to see Bruno Mars.
[9:57] Allyson A La Mode: And then I tried to, like, go back and listen to episodes to find out what that bar that you did, like...
[10:03] Andrew: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah!
[10:04] Allyson A La Mode: Or, like, some kind of, like...
[10:05] Andrew: Instead of just messaging her, you listened back to...
[10:11] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, that's good.
[10:13] Andrew: How long were you here for?
[10:14] Allyson A La Mode: Was that your first time here?
[10:16] Allyson A La Mode: Well, that's, so that's the thing is, like, I was here from, like, a Tuesday to a Saturday.
[10:21] Allyson A La Mode: And so it, like, I couldn't, there was nothing fun going on.
[10:26] Andrew: If I was, if I would have stayed longer, we would have had time to do, like, a drag brunch.
[10:29] Allyson A La Mode: But, yeah, and then I didn't even think about it until after.
[10:32] Allyson A La Mode: And I was like, oh my God!
[10:34] Andrew: I'm from here!
[10:35] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[10:36] Andrew: Have you been here before?
[10:38] Allyson A La Mode: No, and I was like, wow, all of the buildings have bridges attached to them.
[10:42] Allison Dodge: Yeah.
[10:42] Allyson A La Mode: That is so interesting to me.
[10:44] Andrew: So we don't have to go outside.
[10:46] Allyson A La Mode: We all have, we have skyways throughout Minneapolis.
[10:49] Andrew: So we don't have to go outside during the wintertime.
[10:52] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, I never noticed that before.
[10:54] Andrew: Yeah, all the buildings have, like, sky, like, little bridges connecting them.
[10:59] Allyson A La Mode: And I thought that was so interesting.
[11:00] Andrew: That is really cool.
[11:01] Allyson A La Mode: It gets fucking bitch-ass cold here.
[11:04] Andrew: Bitch-ass cold, of course.
[11:04] Allyson A La Mode: You don't want to be stepping outside.
[11:06] Allyson A La Mode: If you're on your lunch break, you want to get to Subway, you're going to take the Skyway.
[11:11] Andrew: Yep.
[11:11] Allyson A La Mode: I love it.
[11:11] Andrew: Bitch-ass cold.
[11:13] Allyson A La Mode: Um, so yeah, I was in Minneapolis.
[11:15] Allyson A La Mode: But, um, yeah, I was thinking about Ann Juliet covers versus the Glee covers.
[11:20] Allyson A La Mode: And I was looking at the list of, and I was wondering, Glee really didn't maximize, no pun intended, their Max Martin bag.
[11:30] Allison Dodge: Like, they—
[11:31] Allyson A La Mode: Okay, here's my thing.
[11:32] Allyson A La Mode: I left Ann Juliet both times feeling as though they missed out on the opportunity of having Max Martin original Loser Like Me included in the Broadway show.
[11:44] Andrew: And I'm like, why did they not include that?
[11:47] Allyson A La Mode: Wait, Max Martin of Life of a Showgirl fame?
[11:51] Andrew: Is that what he's—
[11:52] Allyson A La Mode: Did he—
[11:53] Andrew: Is that his—
[11:56] Allyson A La Mode: Is that his drop?
[11:57] Andrew: His claim to fame?
[11:59] Allyson A La Mode: That's his drop, Life of a Showgirl.
[12:04] Andrew: Oh, no!
[12:07] Allyson A La Mode: So Ann Juliet is exclusively Max Martin songs.
[12:12] Andrew: Is there a Taylor Swift song in it?
[12:15] Allyson A La Mode: I will—
[12:15] Allyson A La Mode: Actually, I will list the songs that—
[12:17] Allyson A La Mode: they sing in Ann Juliet that are also on Glee, if you want to hear it.
[12:22] Andrew: Yes, please.
[12:24] Allyson A La Mode: Okay, so I Want It That Way, Baby One More Time, Teenage Dream Mashed Up with Break Free, It's My Life, Problem mashed up with Can't Feel My Face, so only Problem, It's Gonna Be Me, which obviously was mashed up, Stronger, Fucking Perfect—
[12:42] Andrew: Wait, It's Gonna Be Me was not—
[12:44] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, wait, was it Bye Bye Bye?
[12:46] Andrew: Oh, it was Bye Bye Bye.
[12:48] Allyson A La Mode: Potato Potato, and I'm an NSYNC stan.
[12:50] Andrew: Which ones, which ones were—
[12:52] Allyson A La Mode: I feel like a lot of those were actually not good Glee covers.
[12:57] Andrew: I was gonna say, and of like, of all of these, like, okay, obviously Teenage Dream is going to be the best.
[13:06] Allyson A La Mode: I do really like It's My Life, Confessions.
[13:09] Allyson A La Mode: Like, it's not one of the best, but it's clunky, but it's fun.
[13:12] Andrew: Yeah.
[13:13] Allyson A La Mode: But like, I'm thinking about, like, Problem, Break Free, Baby One More Time.
[13:19] Allyson A La Mode: Fucking Perfect, Horrible, hated it.
[13:21] Andrew: Oh, Perfect, yes, yeah.
[13:25] Allyson A La Mode: Roar.
[13:26] Andrew: Roar, you know what?
[13:28] Allyson A La Mode: Roar is kind of cute.
[13:29] Andrew: I kind of like Roar.
[13:29] Allyson A La Mode: I mean, I feel like Star Child and Demi are doing the heavy lifting.
[14:08] Andrew: What are the notes saying?
[14:10] Allison Dodge: The notes are saying...
[14:12] Allyson A La Mode: Okay, let me see, let me see.
[14:15] Allison Dodge: I did accidentally vote for "Hand in My Pocket" on the Instagram polls.
[14:18] Allison Dodge: I would have voted for...
[14:22] Allison Dodge: "And I Am Telling You."
[14:23] Allison Dodge: But as soon as I saw the competition and I saw who was voting in the competition,
[14:29] Allison Dodge: I knew what song was coming.
[14:30] Allyson A La Mode: Wait, I was...
[14:31] Allison Dodge: Okay, okay.
[14:31] Allison Dodge: I'm so glad you brought this up because, Allison Dodge, I just so happen to see your vote in the episode, "Hand in My Pocket," "I Feel the Earth Move," won.
[14:42] Andrew: But I was expecting you to vote for "And I Am Telling You."
[14:46] Allison Dodge: What was the decision?
[14:49] Allison Dodge: Well, upon reflection, I might have gotten "Hand in My Pocket" mixed up with the other one that I really liked from that episode.
[14:58] Allison Dodge: "Will You Still Love Me?"
[15:02] Allyson A La Mode: That is my girl.
[15:03] Allison Dodge: That's the winner of my bracket, I've said on this podcast.
[15:07] Allyson A La Mode: I agreed, but I do love...
[15:09] Allyson A La Mode: I don't know, I'm feeling in a silly, goofy mood.
[15:12] Allyson A La Mode: Like I was reflecting on the first part of this round earlier, and we are in like the nitty gritty.
[15:20] Allyson A La Mode: So it's time to have like silly, goofy, fun moods.
[15:24] Allyson A La Mode: And I was like, "And I Am Telling You" has had its time.
[15:30] Allyson A La Mode: In my opinion, for right now, today at 6:25 Central.
[15:36] Andrew: Can I say, am I?
[15:38] Allyson A La Mode: No, exactly.
[15:39] Allyson A La Mode: That's the conversation.
[15:43] Allison Dodge: Well, no, Aman and I, I feel like share a lot of the same opinions on like certain songs or certain covers.
[15:49] Allison Dodge: And every time he's on this podcast, I'm like, just nodding, like seriously in agreement.
[15:55] Allyson A La Mode: Neck hurt, yeah.
[15:56] Allison Dodge: I'm like, yes.
[15:58] Allison Dodge: And so it, yeah, it had its time.
[16:01] Allison Dodge: It was good.
[16:03] Allyson A La Mode: But I felt like...
[16:04] Allyson A La Mode: "Waiting for You to Be Great."
[16:06] Allyson A La Mode: "Hand in My Pocket," "Earth Move."
[16:09] Allyson A La Mode: I don't, it's like, it's a mashup.
[16:11] Allyson A La Mode: It's actually a mashup.
[16:12] Allyson A La Mode: And it's like, it brings something different other than like a straight cover that she was singing against her will.
[16:19] Allison Dodge: Yeah, it did feel very gun to her head.
[16:23] Allyson A La Mode: Ooh, but you know what was a tough competition for me personally?
[16:27] Allyson A La Mode: "Bust Your Windows" vs. "Cough Syrup."
[16:29] Andrew: Oh, this is the nitty gritty time.
[16:33] Andrew: This is when it's like, pick your favorite kids, it's tough.
[16:37] Andrew: Um, Allison Dodge, what would you say to that?
[16:41] Allison Dodge: Pick your favorite child.
[16:44] Allison Dodge: "Cough Syrup."
[16:44] Allison Dodge: Only because Darren Criss just performed it on stage.
[16:49] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, recency bias.
[16:52] Allison Dodge: Yes.
[16:52] Allison Dodge: Exactly, exactly.
[16:53] Allison Dodge: I'm thinking about it.
[16:54] Allison Dodge: I'm listening to it.
[16:54] Allison Dodge: And I'm like, wait.
[16:56] Allison Dodge: Amber Riley, get your ass on stage.
[16:58] Allison Dodge: Do "Bust Your Windows."
[16:59] Allyson A La Mode: Exactly.
[17:00] Allyson A La Mode: And then maybe I would have voted for it.
[17:03] Allison Dodge: No, nobody is out here busting their windows anymore.
[17:07] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[17:09] Allyson A La Mode: Wait, so Allison Alamode, what are you saying?
[17:12] Allyson A La Mode: Oh man, it was very, I was like sitting here like, what would I vote?
[17:16] Allyson A La Mode: Because I feel like "Cough Syrup" is, I don't know, Darren Criss just has a knack for doing a cover and then making that song explode more than it maybe already was.
[17:28] Allyson A La Mode: But then "Bust Your Windows" was like, it was so camp.
[17:32] Allyson A La Mode: It's season one.
[17:33] Allyson A La Mode: It's like, you could really show somebody like, this is Glee.
[17:36] Allyson A La Mode: And like, it just represents Glee so well versus like, "Cough Syrup" is a really good cover.
[17:42] Allyson A La Mode: And I mean, obviously there's the emotional weight.
[17:44] Allyson A La Mode: But like, it was really tough for me.
[17:46] Allyson A La Mode: And I couldn't even, it was one of those competitions where I'm listening to it.
[17:49] Allyson A La Mode: I'm like, glad I wasn't there.
[17:50] Allyson A La Mode: Glad I wasn't there.
[17:51] Allyson A La Mode: Glad it wasn't me.
[17:52] Allyson A La Mode: I just, "Bust Your Windows" has such a special place in my heart.
[17:56] Allyson A La Mode: And I didn't share this in the episode.
[17:57] Allyson A La Mode: But I don't know if you remember this, Allison Dodge.
[18:00] Allyson A La Mode: But when that song was pulled in round one, that was in our episode with Taisha Monique Clark of Vocal Adrenaline fame.
[18:09] Allyson A La Mode: And I remember just like watching that performance in the Zoom call with her.
[18:15] Allyson A La Mode: And she, I had no idea that like, she was doing the choreo along with the performance.
[18:24] Allyson A La Mode: Because she did that on tour in its muscle memory.
[18:29] Allyson A La Mode: That was so special to me.
[18:31] Allyson A La Mode: That I was like, completely at random.
[18:34] Allyson A La Mode: I'm so glad that the Glads have given her this song.
[18:38] Allyson A La Mode: You know, that is like, yeah, I just, that song always stands out for me.
[18:43] Allyson A La Mode: For that reason.
[18:45] Allison Dodge: I mean, they brought a car on tour.
[18:48] Allison Dodge: They brought a car into MSG before Taylor Swift did.
[18:56] Andrew: So, you know.
[18:56] Allison Dodge: They had Amber Riley go, was she, she got on top of the car.
[19:02] Allison Dodge: On top of the car.
[19:03] Allison Dodge: And then she slid down.
[19:06] Allison Dodge: 10 out of 10.
[19:07] Allyson A La Mode: Nobody talks about this enough, actually.
[19:08] Allyson A La Mode: I need to rewatch this.
[19:10] Andrew: Because it's incredible.
[19:11] Allyson A La Mode: The tour performance?
[19:13] Andrew: The tour performance.
[19:14] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[19:15] Allyson A La Mode: The Kurt Sadie's, I feel like the Kurt Sadie's storyline of season one.
[19:19] Allyson A La Mode: I feel like gets lost in the shuffle a lot.
[19:22] Allyson A La Mode: Because there's so much of early season one that's also just chaotic.
[19:28] Allison Dodge: But I feel like that has been on my TikTok for you page for some reason recently.
[19:34] Allyson A La Mode: Kurt Sadie's?
[19:35] Allison Dodge: Like the Kurt Sadie's?
[19:36] Allyson A La Mode: Kurt Sadie's season one.
[19:37] Allison Dodge: Like, hey, remember when Kurt Sadie's had a crush on Kurt?
[19:41] Allyson A La Mode: You watch one Kurt Sadie's video.
[19:43] Allyson A La Mode: And then all of a sudden.
[19:44] Allison Dodge: All of a sudden, my entire fucking for you page.
[19:49] Allyson A La Mode: I feel like people really, really were going up for "Four Minutes."
[19:52] Andrew: Because did I, did I vote against that?
[19:54] Andrew: I don't get her.
[19:55] Andrew: I don't get her like y'all do.
[19:56] Allison Dodge: Really?
[19:57] Allison Dodge: Wow.
[19:57] Allyson A La Mode: Okay.
[19:59] Allyson A La Mode: Okay.
[19:59] Allyson A La Mode: Was that me?
[20:01] Allyson A La Mode: Did I do that?
[20:01] Andrew: "Four Minutes."
[20:02] Andrew: You got, you just don't get it.
[20:04] Andrew: I don't understand why you wouldn't get it.
[20:06] Andrew: I don't.
[20:07] Andrew: What was it against?
[20:08] Andrew: It was, well, this is, this is huge.
[20:11] Andrew: Against "My Man" last round.
[20:13] Allison Dodge: Oh, I'm sick.
[20:18] Allison Dodge: There's no way that could have been me.
[20:19] Andrew: Hold on, hold on.
[20:20] Andrew: That wasn't you.
[20:21] Allyson A La Mode: Okay, good.
[20:22] Andrew: That wasn't, that was neither of you.
[20:24] Andrew: That was recent.
[20:24] Andrew: That was, okay, good.
[20:26] Andrew: Yeah.
[20:26] Andrew: Oh, I was gonna say that the moment that "Baby One More Time" got picked in the first episode of this round.
[20:34] Andrew: I like, I felt a sigh of like, was that in the first episode of this round?
[20:38] Allison Dodge: That was in the first episode.
[20:39] Andrew: And I wanted to like, because I think it was in the last episode, which you haven't listened to yet.
[20:42] Andrew: And that's fine.
[20:43] Andrew: But in the last episode, we brought up that I was like, Allison Alamode, because "Baby One More Time" discourse never goes away.
[20:50] Andrew: It really just like, it's, it's herpes of conversation that it's like, "Baby One More Time" is like constantly being brought up.
[20:59] Andrew: And I'm like, Allison Alamode likes this.
[21:02] Allyson A La Mode: And so.
[21:03] Allyson A La Mode: No, don't do that.
[21:06] Allyson A La Mode: Do not do that.
[21:07] Allyson A La Mode: Because I remember you voted for it a few times.
[21:10] Allyson A La Mode: And I was like, I actually need her to defend her honor.
[21:12] Allyson A La Mode: Because what is the truth?
[21:14] Allyson A La Mode: Okay, I felt like it's not even like a remarkable song to me.
[21:19] Allyson A La Mode: But in the moment of both of those competitions,
[21:22] Allyson A La Mode: it just felt like better than what.
[21:26] Allyson A La Mode: I came up with more arguments against the song it was against.
[21:31] Allyson A La Mode: If that makes sense.
[21:32] Allyson A La Mode: Because I think one of them was like a Mercedes cover.
[21:35] Allyson A La Mode: And it was me and Matt.
[21:37] Allyson A La Mode: And it was so funny.
[21:38] Allyson A La Mode: Because Matt was saying something about "Baby One More Time" in his episode.
[21:42] Allyson A La Mode: And I was like, oh, he's the one.
[21:43] Allyson A La Mode: Say he loves "Baby One More Time."
[21:45] Allyson A La Mode: Not me.
[21:45] Andrew: So it was, you voted.
[21:48] Andrew: Oh god, this is not looking good for you.
[21:51] Allyson A La Mode: Okay, don't do this to me.
[21:54] Allyson A La Mode: You're gonna hate what I'm about to say.
[21:57] Allyson A La Mode: You voted for "Baby One More Time" over "Spotlight."
[22:00] Andrew: And also "Trouty Mouth."
[22:03] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, okay.
[22:03] Allyson A La Mode: And you know what?
[22:04] Allyson A La Mode: And that's what I'm saying.
[22:05] Allyson A La Mode: I'm going to stand by those decisions.
[22:08] Andrew: You do.
[22:09] Andrew: Spotlight, I feel like maybe Amon would have my back.
[22:13] Andrew: Maybe I'm wrong.
[22:15] Andrew: About Spotlight.
[22:16] Andrew: It was just, come on, Amon.
[22:17] Andrew: Amon, just sound off in the comments.
[22:20] Allyson A La Mode: But Spotlight was just kind of like, just there.
[22:25] Allyson A La Mode: It wasn't, you know, it's just unremarkable to me.
[22:28] Allyson A La Mode: Like it was good.
[22:29] Allyson A La Mode: It was kind of just a, you know, cookie cutter, whatever.
[22:33] Allyson A La Mode: It was very out of context.
[22:34] Allyson A La Mode: Did not make sense for a Maria audition.
[22:38] Allyson A La Mode: And then "Trouty Mouth," it was funny.
[22:42] Allyson A La Mode: Like it's, I think it ran its course.
[22:44] Allyson A La Mode: Like it's fine.
[22:45] Allyson A La Mode: It didn't need to be further.
[22:47] Allyson A La Mode: So that's why I felt like I could come up with more critiques against the song it was against.
[22:51] Allyson A La Mode: Which is why by kind of like default, I was voting for "Baby One More Time."
[22:55] Allyson A La Mode: But when you guys pulled it in this round, I was like, thank God.
[22:58] Allyson A La Mode: I don't have to worry about it haunting me.
[23:00] Andrew: Yeah.
[23:02] Andrew: So that's the official Alamode statement.
[23:05] Allyson A La Mode: Statement Alamode.
[23:08] Andrew: Okay.
[23:09] Andrew: Anything further that we need to say from the notes?
[23:11] Allison Dodge: The only thing I have to say is whenever you have Gleeks on here that are like Gen Z Gleeks and they're like, oh, like I kind of started watching it late because, but I watched it a little because my parents used to watch it.
[23:23] Allison Dodge: And I'm like, right.
[23:25] Allison Dodge: And so is Glee to Gen Z what Friends is to Millennials?
[23:30] Andrew: Like I would watch Friends because my parents used to watch it.
[23:35] Andrew: And then like, I would watch it on my own as I got older.
[23:37] Andrew: And so now Glee, I feel like is the same for Gen Z.
[23:43] Allyson A La Mode: That's a good question because it is just at the tip of your fingers.
[23:47] Allyson A La Mode: Like you can watch as many episodes as you can.
[23:49] Allyson A La Mode: I also feel like that's just a different way to perceive television in general.
[23:55] Allyson A La Mode: Like so many shows I didn't watch live and I got to watch them all at once.
[23:59] Allyson A La Mode: So I have a different-
[24:00] Andrew: And back then, like, you know, their parents, if they're younger parents or whatever, millennial Gen Y parents, they're watching it live on TV.
[24:05] Andrew: So maybe as a kid, you're like catching it on like whatever Thursday night, like, oh, what is this?
[24:11] Andrew: I'm not really fully understanding it.
[24:12] Andrew: And then as you get older, you're watching it and appreciating it on your own.
[24:16] Andrew: And I'm like, oh God, like Glee is to Gen Z what Friends may be to Millennials.
[24:22] Allyson A La Mode: I'm a millennial, but you know.
[24:24] Allyson A La Mode: I've only watched like a handful of episodes of Friends.
[24:26] Allison Dodge: I also thought you've watched all of it.
[24:28] Allyson A La Mode: I've watched like seven times.
[24:30] Allyson A La Mode: I can perform every episode of Friends.
[24:32] Andrew: Genuinely, completely agree.
[24:34] Allyson A La Mode: I'm going to take back what I was about to say then.
[24:36] Andrew: Oh, go ahead.
[24:37] Allyson A La Mode: Say it with your chest.
[24:39] Andrew: Oh, I didn't know that was, I was struck by Friends freaks.
[24:42] Andrew: I thought I was in a safe space.
[24:45] Allyson A La Mode: Here's the mic.
[24:48] Andrew: Okay.
[24:48] Andrew: So what I want to say is that I don't think that, okay, so Friends, it feels a little bit more, it's a little bit more basic.
[24:54] Andrew: I'm going to use the B word that-
[24:58] Allyson A La Mode: I think you can say that.
[24:59] Andrew: It's more basic than I think than Glee is.
[25:02] Andrew: That like Glee feels a little bit-
[25:03] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, a hundred percent.
[25:04] Andrew: Yes.
[25:05] Andrew: Much more kind of, I hate using the word like intellectual, but like you're kind of like, you're-
[25:11] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, the target audience is smaller.
[25:14] Andrew: Yes.
[25:15] Andrew: That I'm like, I don't know if the, if it's correlated between Glee and Friends.
[25:20] Andrew: I think that Glee-
[25:21] Allyson A La Mode: I just meant it in a more general way.
[25:23] Andrew: Because like Friends was never tackling the subject matter that Glee is.
[25:28] Andrew: And obviously people and brains have evolved since then.
[25:31] Andrew: But just in the sense of like watching something that your parents may be watching,
[25:35] Andrew: not binging, because people weren't really binging back then.
[25:38] Andrew: So you're kind of just watching it every week and like not fully grasping it and then like picking it up on your own as you get older.
[25:45] Allyson A La Mode: So maybe not the show, obviously.
[25:47] Andrew: The content.
[25:49] Andrew: The content, but just the concept of liking something that your parents liked.
[25:53] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[25:56] Andrew: As we continue to age and time moves,
[26:01] Andrew: I feel like we'll see that more and more often.
[26:05] Andrew: Before we get into Glackening, Allison Alamode, you've introduced Glee to your child.
[26:10] Allyson A La Mode: I have.
[26:11] Allyson A La Mode: And like, he's not keeping up with any storylines versus like the musical numbers.
[26:15] Allyson A La Mode: Like he is in a, as a lot of kids his age are, is in a Michael Jackson phase.
[26:21] Allyson A La Mode: So I let him watch Michael and also...
[26:25] Andrew: Wait, are the kids in Michael Jackson phases right now?
[26:28] Allyson A La Mode: Oh my God.
[26:29] Allyson A La Mode: Yes.
[26:29] Allyson A La Mode: All the little kids like are super into Michael Jackson.
[26:34] Andrew: Just made a billing at the box office.
[26:35] Allyson A La Mode: Come on.
[26:36] Allyson A La Mode: It sure did.
[26:37] Allyson A La Mode: And I was, I was a contributing factor of that.
[26:39] Allyson A La Mode: I brought him to Michael Jackson and we watched it in the 4DX moving seats.
[26:43] Andrew: The last 15 minutes...
[26:44] Allyson A La Mode: The 4D? Michael Jackson in 4D?
[26:48] Andrew: Wait!
[26:51] Allyson A La Mode: The last 15 minutes of the movie, we were rocking in those seats, y'all.
[26:55] Allyson A La Mode: It was an amusement park ride.
[26:57] Andrew: Wait, because the last, no spoiler, whatever.
[27:00] Andrew: The last scene of the movie is "Billie Jean," right?
[27:03] Allyson A La Mode: Yes. So you're like rocking.
[27:05] Andrew: So you're just like...
[27:06] Andrew: Like, oh my God.
[27:10] Allyson A La Mode: Wait, that's so fucking fun.
[27:12] Allyson A La Mode: But yeah, I also brought him to the musical on tour address and he wanted to...
[27:16] Broadway Podcast Network:
[27:17] Allison Dodge: Michael Jackson, so he had like a, you know, sequin jacket.
[27:19] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, that's sweet.
[27:20] Allison Dodge: The gloves.
[27:21] Allyson A La Mode: I love.
[27:22] Allison Dodge: But, so he's seen Michael and he's seen, um, not Asian F.
[27:27] Allyson A La Mode: Sexual, special educated.
[27:28] Allison Dodge: No.
[27:29] Allyson A La Mode: Oh my God.
[27:29] Allison Dodge: Oh, you're better at this than I am.
[27:30] Allyson A La Mode: You're talking about Hold On To 16.
[27:31] Allison Dodge: Thank you. That's uh, the Michael Jackson pre-tribute.
[27:35] Allyson A La Mode: Yes.
[27:35] Allison Dodge: So we watched Hold On To 16 and Michael.
[27:38] Allyson A La Mode: Okay.
[27:38] Allison Dodge: And he, he was cutting out. He did like, he liked the black or white, and he liked smooth criminal and he, and I'm like, okay, okay. And he didn't have much to say about Ben.
[27:50] Allyson A La Mode: So I'm glad you brought it up because I was rewatching and I was going to message you and I'm like, I don't understand you, Andrew.
[27:55] Allison Dodge: Oh, Ben's great.
[27:59] Allyson A La Mode: I don't like you watching it and I just don't reaching for it in any way, shape or form.
[28:06] Allison Dodge: I think it's beautiful. Melodies haunting.
[28:11] Allyson A La Mode: Is it like,
[28:14] Allison Dodge: Yeah.
[28:15] Allyson A La Mode: I mean, this is very much your glitter in the air.
[28:18] Allison Dodge: Like because
[28:18] Allyson A La Mode: This is my glitter in the air.
[28:20] Allison Dodge: Yes.
[28:20] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[28:21] Allison Dodge: I say that's my man. I stand by him.
[28:26] Allyson A La Mode: Um, wait, Alison Dodge, are you introducing Glee to your future children?
[28:30] Allison Dodge: I was literally thinking about it. I was like, I mean, I want, I'm going to play.
[28:35] Allyson A La Mode: You're having my baby in the womb, like in utero.
[28:39] Allison Dodge: I'm playing that for sure.
[28:40] Allyson A La Mode: Oh God.
[28:41] Allison Dodge: Yeah. Day one. I mean, day one through like four years old until they can process things.
[28:48] Allyson A La Mode: And then maybe we'll wait after that.
[28:50] Allison Dodge: I think that Joe should bring a boom box play.
[28:54] Allyson A La Mode: You're having the baby to the birth announcement to the baby announcement.
[29:00] Allison Dodge: He performs it. He just reenacts the scene at a dinner table and your parents who don't really have, I don't think that they would understand the reference.
[29:05] Allyson A La Mode: They, my mom would, but she would.
[29:11] Allison Dodge: Okay.
[29:11] Allyson A La Mode: Okay. If you felt like making a viral birth announcement, I recommend reenacting that.
[29:16] Allison Dodge: Wait, I feel like, you know what, I, this is a call to action that like literally Gleeks out there. If you have a birth announcement, I feel like that would go viral actually.
[29:28] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[29:28] Allison Dodge: So please tag me.
[29:31] Allyson A La Mode: Um, what do we want to see today? What kind of vibe are we going for?
[29:35] Allison Dodge: You know, I'm always reaching for season six.
[29:37] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, sorry. I also wanted to mention in your link tree, you have to change the names of your playlists because they're still last bitch.
[29:42] Allison Dodge: Wait, why did she just call me a bitch?
[29:56] Allyson A La Mode: Y'all heard that, right?
[30:00] Allison Dodge: Um, thank you so much. I'm so embarrassed. I absolutely will. Thank you.
[30:05] Allyson A La Mode: Because I always go to your link tree to like, Oh, I got to look at like the, and I was like, wait, round three contenders. And I clicked it. But then when you click it, it does go to the properly titled playlist, but you gotta, but I need to change the actual, okay.
[30:19] Allison Dodge: Okay.
[30:20] Allyson A La Mode: So you just wanted to call me out on a public forum.
[30:24] Allison Dodge: That's the only way to get shit done.
[30:26] Allyson A La Mode: This couldn't have been, this couldn't have waited for the DM.
[30:32] Allison Dodge: Oh, I see.
[30:33] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah. Okay. Got it.
[30:34] Allison Dodge: I, what I want pulled from the cup tonight is a competition that everybody else is saying, thank God it's not me.
[30:40] Allyson A La Mode: I hope that it's a competition that people are like, wow. So glad I didn't have to make that decision. It's so complicated and so difficult.
[30:53] Allison Dodge: And, uh, because I'm ready. I didn't realize the competitions were going to be so heavy already. Cause I mean like how many rounds will it ideally be?
[31:04] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, that's an age old question.
[31:07] Allison Dodge: Stop.
[31:08] Allyson A La Mode: Well, I mean, just in general, because I'm like, I don't know. Crazy competition.
[31:13] Allison Dodge: Yes. Okay. So this is round four, of course, there are going to be 25 episodes in this round, uh, two competitions each. We are on, let's see, episode eight right now.
[31:25] Allyson A La Mode: Um, I think that it stands to reason that there's going to be like nine rounds, but like, they're so small at the end. I'm scrolling through the playlist and I'm like, Oh my God. Banger after banger.
[31:38] Allison Dodge: There's only bangers left.
[31:43] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[31:43] Allison Dodge: And wait, wait.
[31:45] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah. Christmas wrapping is still here.
[31:48] Allison Dodge: Don't even get me started.
[31:49] Allyson A La Mode: Don't get me.
[31:54] Allison Dodge: Bring that bitch here because I, I want to kill her in front of you.
[31:58] Allyson A La Mode: It's not, it's not Christmas wrapping, but it is, I think this is kind of, this is kind of the vibe that we need tonight.
[32:06] Allison Dodge: Okay. Fun.
[32:06] Allyson A La Mode: Fun.
[32:07] Allison Dodge: Um, it's a, it's a season four. Um, we have shit to say about this.
[32:14] Allyson A La Mode: There are some songs that I like, we go into and I'm like, okay, I'm really reaching for straws for what to say about this one, this one, every time it comes up, we have shit to say.
[32:26] Allison Dodge: Where is she? I can't wait. Let's see that thumbnail.
[32:29] Allyson A La Mode: Oh God.
[32:30] Allison Dodge: Yeah. You see the thumbnail?
[32:30] Allyson A La Mode: Oh yeah.
[32:34] Allison Dodge: Yeah, baby.
[32:39] Allyson A La Mode: God.
[32:40] Allison Dodge: Yeah. First things at my wedding, baby.
[32:45] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, you're right.
[32:49] Allison Dodge: I do have a lot to say. There's, there's so much to unpack here.
[32:54] Allyson A La Mode: Alison, although please, the floor is yours.
[32:57] Allison Dodge: The first thing I wrote, I wrote in my notes is I hate this song.
[33:01] Allyson A La Mode: Oh God.
[33:03] Allison Dodge: I hate it so much. But like, when you say that you hate it, it's like, I think, I, I think I, there is a place in my heart where I hate this song, but I, it's like, you know, like how like love and hate are such strong emotions that it's like, I, I, it's both.
[33:20] Allyson A La Mode: Yes.
[33:22] Allison Dodge: No.
[33:23] Allyson A La Mode: Both can be true.
[33:24] Allison Dodge: There is nothing about this song that I personally like. Like, I don't like the arrangement. I don't like it's, I'm so uncomfortable. Like it's, I mean, it's, that's what it's meant to be. And it achieved that. Like I, you're, I'm so uncomfortable watching it. Like Blaine is so sweaty and like.
[33:36] Allyson A La Mode: Okay.
[33:48] Allison Dodge: That's Darren Criss right there. That's not Blaine.
[33:50] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[33:51] Allison Dodge: Like just, he just fucked a lighthouse.
[33:53] Allyson A La Mode: Okay.
[34:00] Allison Dodge: The zoom in to like mirror the original, um, you know, number and it just hit the same, it was, yeah, very parallel, but like it, the, oh my God, Kurt's face, like just the, the closeup on him. And then his like, smile dropping when he's like, wait, what's, what's going on? Did my man fuck a lighthouse?
[34:22] Allyson A La Mode: It's giving lighthouse. Anyone else is anyone like I'm seeing the light I'm coming to harbor.
[34:29] Allison Dodge: Yeah. I do not like, there are people that go up for this version.
[34:34] Allyson A La Mode: Oh yeah.
[34:35] Allison Dodge: No, this is the call right now.
[34:37] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah. And what, what about it? What do you have to say to us?
[34:39] Allison Dodge: Like, and I mean, just not that they're related at all, but like, I love season five loser like me and like season two is eh, but I, for me, I love season two teenage dream. Hate this.
[34:51] Allyson A La Mode: Okay.
[34:53] Allison Dodge: But I cannot wait to hear what you have to say.
[34:56] Allyson A La Mode: Alison, I feel like I, like you're my pit bull and I'm like, get her.
[35:07] Allison Dodge: This song for so many reasons is, I'm not going to say big things that I'm going to regret later.
[35:18] Allyson A La Mode: No, say that you'll regret since when, since when you'll regret the fuck I don't give a fuck.
[35:28] Allison Dodge: Um, this is one of my favorite Blaine covers might rank higher than the OG.
[35:35] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[35:37] Allison Dodge: Yeah. It is. I mean, the fucking Tumblr reaction posts write them fucking selves. Like, Oh my God, Kurt and Blaine just understand each other on such a minute level that Kurt can pick up on any little minor detail that Blaine, that Blaine says. And it's so beautiful and they love each other so much. And he just knew that something was wrong with Blaine.
[35:57] Allyson A La Mode: And I love that part in general.
[36:02] Allison Dodge: I love him picking up on the nuance because I'm sitting here being like, are we supposed to, I feel great. Am I saying I feel weird? Like it's something wrong. I feel like nothing's wrong. Actually, Kurt, you're acting weird, you're acting weird. You should be clapping.
[36:18] Allyson A La Mode: Exactly. You shouldn't be clapping.
[36:19] Allison Dodge: You couldn't like put yourself in like, what is it? Not scandals. What is it?
[36:24] Allyson A La Mode: Uh, this is callbacks, callbacks, callbacks.
[36:30] Allison Dodge: Like put yourself in that bar and you're watching this guy and you're like, Oh, no, Alison, but I need you to understand that.
[36:37] Allyson A La Mode: Yes.
[36:38] Allison Dodge: What you're doing is you're not, you're not, you're not, you're not, you're not.
[36:42] Allyson A La Mode: Yes.
[36:43] Allison Dodge: What you're saying, the reasons that you don't like this song are the reasons that I love this song.
[36:47] Allyson A La Mode: Yes.
[36:48] Allison Dodge: You're putting yourself in the situation that it's like, Oh, I'm not, I'm like, Oh, like this, this guy's like getting really emotional behind the keys.
[36:55] Allyson A La Mode: It's not even a guy. It's a literal child. He is 17.
[37:00] Allison Dodge: He is an adult bar, literally crying behind the piano.
[37:06] Allyson A La Mode: But he's like,
[37:06] Allison Dodge: They are also canonically 18 years old, not even old enough to be in a bar either.
[37:11] Allyson A La Mode: And none of them are maybe Brody, maybe, maybe Brody, in which case, gross, weirder shit happened on stage.
[37:18] Allison Dodge: And I was less uncomfortable than I was watching this performance, but I just think, I think that like, that's one of the reasons that I really love this performance is the fact that everyone's being completely normal about a child getting very, very emotional.
[37:35] Allyson A La Mode: Like, like it's your Friday night, you worked a long work week and it's like, you're there. And it's like a child is behind the keys.
[37:40] Allison Dodge: I'd be like, yeah, here's $5. It's like, Oh, I'm going to sing this song. This is the song I sang to like, you know, the love of my life, but he's not even singing it in a way that he's getting emotional a la like Tina singing my funny Valentine, like he can tell that it's like written with guilt.
[38:05] Allyson A La Mode: Low key.
[38:05] Allison Dodge: Like you can see, I mean, yeah. Beautiful.
[38:10] Allyson A La Mode: Wait, you don't like anything about this performance?
[38:12] Allison Dodge: Nothing.
[38:15] Allyson A La Mode: I think that Lea Michele and Ariana Grande went to the same tanning salon in this era, because they are both the same shade of brown.
[38:24] Allison Dodge: I want her color.
[38:25] Allyson A La Mode: Right.
[38:26] Allison Dodge: This is the color I want.
[38:30] Allyson A La Mode: But, uh, no, I, no.
[38:36] Allison Dodge: Okay.
[38:38] Allyson A La Mode: And you know what? You can have that opinion. If this song was against baby one more time, I would vote for this.
[38:48] Allison Dodge: Okay.
[38:48] Allyson A La Mode: Um, Oh, I have two things I need to say, actually. Um, maybe I've said this before. I'd be surprised if I haven't, but I need to say it again. Every time I think about a Blaine vocal in this episode, um, I'm thinking about the math behind it because this is how my mind works.
[39:02] Allison Dodge: Okay. We're looking at, uh, the breakup episode where Blaine gets a solo, a duet, a quartet, and an octet.
[39:09] Allyson A La Mode: So he gets it's he's, he's, he's, um, multiplying it by two every time he does it.
[39:14] Allison Dodge: So he gets a gay guys, triple, double. So he's getting, he's getting the teenage dream solo. He's getting the barely breathing duet. He's getting the don't speak quartet and he's getting the scientist.
[39:29] Allyson A La Mode: He's he's he's eaten up this entire episode.
[39:33] Allison Dodge: Um, and then, uh, my question to both of you.
[39:36] Allyson A La Mode: Okay. So we already have a teenage dream season two in round five.
[39:41] Allison Dodge: Uh, does the top 50 Glee songs need to include both teenage dreams?
[39:46] Allyson A La Mode: Yes, absolutely not.
[39:50] Allison Dodge: I'm going to say, I think there's room for both of them.
[39:53] Allyson A La Mode: There's always something to say about this conversation and later down the line, you're going to need the content.
[39:59] Allison Dodge: So keep it for that reason. This song just opens up the way that we were so electrified by this.
[40:08] Allyson A La Mode: I'm alive.
[40:09] Allison Dodge: I didn't feel alive 20 minutes ago. I am now.
[40:11] Allyson A La Mode: Imagine if we just pulled like more than words, like we have any shit to say.
[40:19] Allison Dodge: Okay. First of all, not
[40:23] Allyson A La Mode: Oh my God.
[40:24] Allison Dodge: I love that song.
[40:26] Allyson A La Mode: I hope that next, wait, wait, I have more to say.
[40:29] Allison Dodge: Oh yeah.
[40:29] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, I'm sorry. Sorry. It's a Lolo.
[40:30] Allison Dodge: I have to continue to talk.
[40:32] Allyson A La Mode: Okay.
[40:33] Allison Dodge: Um, well actually I only have one last thing.
[40:36] Allison Dodge: I have to bring it to Love Island. So I think that for some reason, some TikToker used a screen grab of this performance, specifically a screen grab of Chris Colfer in this scene specifically.
[41:24] Andrew: Random like of all the shots. No, I know to use this one and just the most random connection.
[41:32] Allison Dodge: Like I loved Bryce. Is he gay? Bryce on Love Island?
[41:39] Allyson A La Mode: Yes. I'm not a Love Islander. It's a heterosexual show. So I had a feeling.
[41:45] Allison Dodge: Oh, but you guys can't be. They legally I don't know. I don't know what the background check goes on.
[41:50] Allyson A La Mode: So he's an ally. Exactly.
[41:54] Allison Dodge: Check. You gay or no? I love that.
[42:01] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, it was kind of cute. I kind of manifested pulling that from the cup kind of by watching that TikTok if you really think about it.
[42:05] Andrew: And we're manifesting more than words next.
[42:17] Allyson A La Mode: Sure. Sure. It's not. Okay. I knew this girl. I knew I was gonna see this girl today.
[42:24] Allison Dodge: You manifested this.
[42:32] Allyson A La Mode: I manifested this and I kept it to myself and there's no written. I can't wait to see what song I'm voting for. God. Damn it.
[42:38] Andrew: This is actually kind of hard for me.
[42:45] Allison Dodge: Okay, is this Dancing Queen?
[42:45] Allyson A La Mode: It is Dancing Queen.
[42:54] Andrew: Oh my god. They really chopped that song up good.
[42:59] Allison Dodge: I was gonna ask. Do you think they filmed the chopped version? But like, or do they film the full version and chop it? Because like they do that, you know, with the weird abrupt cuts and like other songs.
[43:05] Allyson A La Mode: I think they predetermine. I think that they film the chopped version.
[43:11] Andrew: Right? Because they're like, we don't want to have to use them for longer than we need.
[43:17] Allison Dodge: I don't know. That's what I think. Sometimes it just sounds like this wasn't one of the instances where it sounds so jarring.
[43:22] Allyson A La Mode: But like, no, it's jarring for me for "For Good" comes to mind.
[43:27] Allison Dodge: You think it's "For Good" comes to mind?
[43:32] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, um, I think the, and when, and when you get the chance, there's like, they completely like skip over like one part that I'm like, Oh, we're just Oh, we're here now. Oh, we're at this point.
[43:41] Allison Dodge: Um, that, I don't know, it loses points for me. My, I love this song so much. And I know that I'm starting off with negative. But um, this stood out to me, Mike and Tina, are they doing American Gothic?
[44:04] Andrew: Okay. Why did I think the exact, I thought the exact same thing, Andrew, I was like, well, I never caught that before. But I'm like, are they? Why are they posing like that?
[44:14] Allyson A La Mode: Rewind the track? Can we see?
[44:20] Andrew: Wait? Yeah. Yeah. Let me the prom episode where they're making out the whole time. Um, or is that the other prom one?
[44:25] Allison Dodge: I think they're, I mean, are they given really anything to do it?
[44:29] Allyson A La Mode: It just seems so out of character for them that pose.
[44:36] Andrew: Oh, here. Right there. Go on. Give us nothing.
[44:40] Allison Dodge: No, they're not doing that.
[44:40] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, they're really I don't even think this is American Gothic. I think this is just, it's give us nothing.
[44:47] Andrew: Why? It doesn't seem so out of character.
[44:59] Allison Dodge: I can I know? No, unfortunately, no. It doesn't even look like they're having fun.
[45:04] Allyson A La Mode: It looks like they were forced to be there. Again, with each other. This is this is a range marriage vibes.
[45:11] Allison Dodge: Yeah. I was thinking it.
[45:13] Allyson A La Mode: I don't agree. I think they have both cute little knowing smiles on their faces. And they're like, we don't have to pose crazy. Because you know what, we're banging crazy.
[45:26] Andrew: I was like, nobody knows we just fucked in the bathroom.
[45:32] Allison Dodge: Actually, we all heard it.
[45:39] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, we are aware. Could I could I say I feel like I've brought up post-nut clarity so many times on this podcast. This might be post-nut clarity Mike and Tina that it's like post-nut clarity Glee cast version.
[45:44] Andrew: Look at them. They're too.
[45:50] Allyson A La Mode: No, I could see them like in the afterglow. But I feel like this is like, wanky wanky like they're gonna get there. They're excited in this.
[45:57] Allison Dodge: But okay, what if in contrast, I don't like that Puck and Xises are not like funny, affectionate. They're like other than Mike and Tina, they're the only couple that didn't do something like fun.
[46:03] Allyson A La Mode: They're just like, we're just a couple of homies.
[46:08] Andrew: No, no, look, that's the most I've ever seen.
[46:13] Allison Dodge: That's the most this is how Puck and Lauren would pose.
[46:18] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, no, I don't know. I wish it was more like, cute. Not cutesy. But like, like, they're together. They're together. But like, they're also weird. They're like bros. Almost.
[46:24] Andrew: They're just like, yeah, I hate it.
[46:31] Allison Dodge: No, but like, I think that's what their relationship is, though. That they're like, bro-y.
[46:37] Allyson A La Mode: Right? Bro-y?
[46:40] Andrew: They talked about making a sex tape.
[46:46] Allison Dodge: Yeah, making a sex tape with your bro. Come on. Just a couple of bros making a sex tape.
[46:56] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, what's better than this?
[46:56] Andrew: Anyway, do we have anything to say about any other of these prom pictures?
[47:02] Allison Dodge: Well, Quinn. Okay, and I will say Quinn's was so cute. And like, I was like, wait, what the hell? And then I remembered like the whole, you know, speaking through song of it all.
[47:06] Allyson A La Mode: Um, you know, I love this song so much. And I feel like it goes against my like, oh, this is exact because it sounds exactly like they don't do anything different.
[47:12] Allison Dodge: But why is it so fun?
[47:17] Allyson A La Mode: They do a little bit different. Mercedes does the dancing queen.
[47:25] Andrew: Yeah, that's true. You know what? Thank you again, Allison Dodge, my pitbull for this episode.
[47:31] Allison Dodge: Okay, okay, okay.
[47:31] Allyson A La Mode: Hey, I love the original version. You can, you can, you can do that.
[47:46] Allison Dodge: She is doing the heavy lifting. And I think that's what makes me like it. But it does. I mean, even like the chorus, though, does sound like, you know, the same, the same.
[47:50] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, yeah, I see that.
[47:57] Allison Dodge: But it's fun. I love it. And that's getting my vote.
[48:05] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, okay. We're already there. I mean, you already know what wasn't we know?
[48:12] Andrew: Yeah. Well, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. There was no swing.
[48:16] Allyson A La Mode: Um, but you said it was gonna be hard for you. So what do you think?
[48:22] Andrew: Oh, I don't know what I'm saying. I know, because I think both of them have a special place in my heart. I think that I like one a little a nudge more.
[48:30] Allison Dodge: Um, legal note, we have to say that it's from the best Glee the music album ever.
[48:37] Allyson A La Mode: Yours. I just have to say, oh, you're right. I don't know what the fuck I was saying.
[48:43] Allison Dodge: Um, yeah, it's good. I don't think it's I don't know. I'm not a prom song girl. Unless it's I'm not teaching your boyfriend how to dance with you.
[48:58] Allyson A La Mode: I'm not a huge or dinosaur or Jarvis.
[49:03] Allison Dodge: Wait, or, or wait, wait a minute. Or, or, or, or Friday, actually, matter of fact, Friday, or what makes you beautiful?
[49:10] Allyson A La Mode: What makes you beautiful? Like the word?
[49:15] Allison Dodge: Wait, I love when they sang Sergeant.
[49:24] Allyson A La Mode: It's low on the list of prom songs. Let's say that it's low on the list of prom songs for me personally, because it is just it's upbeat. And I'm just over this song in general.
[49:29] Allison Dodge: I'm not a big, I'm not in an ABBA phase right now. I'm kind of like anti ABBA. I've been ABBA'd out of my body.
[49:38] Allyson A La Mode: Are you publicly? I guess you are publicly anti ABBA. Right now.
[49:49] Allison Dodge: You're lucky it's not Pride Month.
[49:54] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, a little homophobic.
[49:57] Allison Dodge: When have you been pro ABBA?
[50:04] Allyson A La Mode: ABBA? Wait, what are we saying?
[50:04] Allison Dodge: ABBA ABBA?
[50:30] Allyson A La Mode: I don't know. I'm pro ABBA when it's chess or Mamma Mia.
[50:39] Allison Dodge: Sure. Yeah, I like that.
[50:44] Allyson A La Mode: And I do. I Hey, hey, everybody. Everybody calm down.
[50:48] Allison Dodge: I do like ABBA ABBA. I do like them. This song has just been maxed out for me personally.
[50:54] Allyson A La Mode: I can understand that.
[50:57] Andrew: Wait for this song or Mamma Mia Glee Cast version by Glee Cast.
[51:02] Allison Dodge: If you were comparing those two ABBA ABBA versus ABBA.
[51:27] Allyson A La Mode: Right now where I'm sitting right now at 7.05pm I'm gonna say Mamma Mia.
[51:39] Andrew: Mamma Mia is still in the cup. So Mamma Mia we could still see this evening.
[51:44] Allison Dodge: I like the Glee version. I like it a lot.
[51:48] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, I think it's I think it's cute. I think I like this more than the Mamma Mia though.
[51:54] Allison Dodge: Wait, Alice in Dodge. Do you not want this played?
[51:59] Allyson A La Mode: You don't want this is such a wedding song.
[52:01] Allison Dodge: It is 1000% a wedding song and it's 1000% going to be played at my wedding.
[52:09] Allyson A La Mode: But Joe and I are kind of anti the classic.
[52:13] Allison Dodge: I mean, you have to have some of the classic songs on the dance floor.
[52:17] Allyson A La Mode: But yeah, we want to hear 360 Charlie XCX as soon as humanly possible. We want to hear fucking dance by Slater like we want to hear little heavier, heavier pop.
[52:27] Allison Dodge: Well, if you're gonna put this on your wedding playlist, would it be the Glee version?
[52:31] Allyson A La Mode: That is a very good question that I have been I need to speak with the Gleeks and Andrew McGuire about is what Glee Cast version songs do we play on the dance floor because we did an entire episode of this with Matt.
[52:47] Allison Dodge: I think because like Matt was like, his, his wedding song somewhere only we know.
[52:54] Allyson A La Mode: That's leave.
[52:59] Allison Dodge: Oh God, now I'm gonna be like, fact check real hard. I was like, was that round two? No, round three.
[53:01] Allyson A La Mode: That was a while ago.
[53:02] Allison Dodge: I know that Maggie's Maggie, our mutual friend her. She wanted Teenage Dream acoustic version to be her, like aisle song or like her first dance or something.
[53:14] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, yes. She may be but we we begged the DJ to play Teenage Dream Glee Cast version by Glee Cast multiple times on that dance floor.
[53:21] Allison Dodge: At her wedding.
[53:25] Allyson A La Mode: At her wedding. It was beautiful.
[53:29] Andrew: And you're talking about season four version.
[53:32] Allyson A La Mode: I'm talking about season two.
[53:36] Allison Dodge: Okay, you don't want to break it down. Because the vibes were high. We had to keep it going.
[53:41] Allyson A La Mode: And the conversation around weddings. There was the famous episode in round one where we went to Paige's wedding.
[53:46] Allison Dodge: I was literally thinking about listening to that today. And I'm so bummed I didn't put it on the car. I want to re-listen to it.
[53:51] Allyson A La Mode: It's like weirdly one of our most listened to episodes, which for good reason. But like I remember like at the end of the night when I I can only speak for myself. I was totally blasted.
[53:57] Allison Dodge: And I really wanted rumor has it someone like you. And like, that's not kind of the vibe for a wedding.
[54:01] Allyson A La Mode: But it sure indeed hit. But we did get at Paige's wedding. We got Don't Stop Believing Glee Cast version by Glee Cast.
[54:10] Allison Dodge: We for sure.
[54:10] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, yeah, I remember that.
[54:12] Andrew: And that will definitely have to be played on my dance floor. Don't Stop Believing.
[54:17] Allison Dodge: Of course.
[54:19] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, I want to do another Gleek of the Week wedding episode at my wedding. Can we do that?
[54:23] Andrew: I think that needs to be like the penalty.
[54:28] Allyson A La Mode: So you're telling me?
[54:30] Allison Dodge: Yeah, don't teach your boyfriend isn't going to be on your playlist.
[54:36] Allyson A La Mode: 1000% it is.
[54:40] Allison Dodge: I was gonna say. Teenage Dream Glee Cast version by Glee Cast.
[54:45] Allyson A La Mode: Don't Stop Believing at least.
[54:48] Allison Dodge: Dancing Queen, probably not the Glee Cast version.
[54:52] Allyson A La Mode: Probably gonna go ABBA. But those top three at least.
[54:56] Andrew: Got it.
[54:32] Allison Dodge: Marry you stripped down version Amanda's cutting room floor. Yeah.
[54:43] Allyson A La Mode: Marry you the clip from The Office.
[54:47] Allison Dodge: I don't want to hear marry you in any way, shape or form. I don't want to hear celebrate good times. Come on. I don't want to hear that. And I don't want to hear any version of Tennessee whiskey. That's not T-Pain.
[55:00] Allyson A La Mode: What the fuck is Tennessee whiskey?
[55:02] Allison Dodge: Tennessee whiskey.
[55:04] Allyson A La Mode: What do you mean? What is Tennessee? Excuse me?
[55:06] Allison Dodge: I just heard a little sample of it. What about me? It screams that I would know that song.
[55:13] Allyson A La Mode: You wouldn't. But the T-Pain cover is like, I am addicted to it. I love it so much. It's incredible.
[55:23] Allison Dodge: I don't remember when this was. I remember it was like one of the last songs the night when I was eating at Ellen's, and my waiter sang it. And I was like, and not on that note, check please.
[55:32] Allyson A La Mode: I do really love that song.
[55:35] Allison Dodge: I love that song.
[55:37] Allyson A La Mode: Glee would have loved that song.
[55:40] Allison Dodge: Tennessee.
[55:41] Allyson A La Mode: Glee.
[55:41] Allison Dodge: Is that Sam?
[55:43] Allyson A La Mode: Hell no. That is a Mercedes.
[55:45] Allison Dodge: No, no, no. Yeah. That's like a power song.
[55:48] Allyson A La Mode: See, I don't even know this song. Wait, I've just assumed that it's a country song. No?
[55:52] Allison Dodge: It is.
[55:52] Allyson A La Mode: So it is, but you have to be able to soulfully run for your life.
[55:57] Allison Dodge: Oh, okay.
[55:58] Allyson A La Mode: So it would have to be, ooh, Mercedes and Artie duet. Are you kidding me?
[56:04] Allison Dodge: Yes. Oh, I'm salivating in my mouth.
[56:07] Allyson A La Mode: That's the answer. That's the answer. Oh my god.
[56:09] Allison Dodge: The AI version. Yeah.
[56:12] Allyson A La Mode: I know. And I hate that. And oh, I hate it. But it would be so good.
[56:17] Allison Dodge: We'll text them. Hey, guys.
[56:20] Allyson A La Mode: Hey, can you just lay down a voice note for me?
[56:22] Allison Dodge: Hey, we'll put it into the garage band. We'll make it work. Yeah.
[56:28] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, you just have to send your vocals.
[56:30] Allison Dodge: Yeah, we'll get Nicky Anders on it.
[56:32] Allyson A La Mode: Nicky Anders.
[56:36] Allison Dodge: What? Do we need to say anything else about Dancing Queen? I love her so much.
[56:39] Allyson A La Mode: I have a feeling. Okay, wait. I know what you're both voting for.
[56:44] Allison Dodge: And it seems like I'm the tiebreaker if I have to jump to conclusions.
[56:50] Allyson A La Mode: Yes, sir.
[56:51] Allison Dodge: Yep, go for it.
[56:52] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, okay. So Allison Dodge, you are locking in your vote for?
[56:55] Allison Dodge: Teenage Dream season four.
[56:57] Allyson A La Mode: And Allison Elmode, you're locking in your vote for?
[56:59] Allyson A La Mode: Dancing Queen.
[57:03] Allison Dodge: Oh my god. I think, just need to walk you through it. Teenage Dream season four has a lot, a lot going for it. It's like high drama, it's high camp.
[57:11] Allyson A La Mode: I love that he's just being really silly behind the piano.
[57:16] Allison Dodge: And then Dancing Queen. I love the vocal runs. I think I love the camaraderie. I think I need to lock in Dancing Queen. I'm locking in Dancing Queen.
[57:33] Allyson A La Mode: Yes.
[57:34] Allison Dodge: Because, because like, okay. Dancing Queen as an episode, Prom Queen, they're at each other's necks. All this entire, like this entire slew of episodes for Prom that they're like, but then at the end of it, Dancing Queen, they're like, they're all friends. I love that. So yeah.
[57:58] Allyson A La Mode: Okay. Okay. We have the other Teenage Dream.
[58:02] Allison Dodge: I was gonna say and you have the other Teenage Dream.
[58:05] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[58:05] Allison Dodge: Waiting for you on the other side.
[58:07] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[58:07] Allison Dodge: But I'm gonna regret this. I know I will.
[58:12] Allyson A La Mode: Okay. You want one more competition?
[58:14] Allison Dodge: Yeah.
[58:15] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, why not?
[58:16] Allison Dodge: I have the playlist open. So I'm like, it could be anything.
[58:20] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, it's Big Mama. We have Big Mama here.
[58:23] Allison Dodge: Stop it.
[58:23] Allyson A La Mode: Big Mama. Yeah.
[58:25] Allison Dodge: Oh my god. Let me fix. I'm like adjusting my seat.
[58:29] Allyson A La Mode: When I say Big Mama, I'm just curious and there are no wrong answers. What do you think Big Mama is?
[58:36] Allison Dodge: Don't Stop Believing.
[58:39] Allyson A La Mode: Looking at a list.
[58:41] Allison Dodge: Looking at a list.
[58:42] Allyson A La Mode: Is it maybe this time?
[58:46] Allison Dodge: It's bigger than that, Mama.
[58:48] Allyson A La Mode: Bigger than maybe this time?
[58:51] Allison Dodge: I would say so and you're gonna see what it is.
[58:53] Allyson A La Mode: It's strong.
[58:54] Allison Dodge: Yeah.
[58:58] Allyson A La Mode: Okay, wait, you wait, I will. I might cry.
[59:04] Allison Dodge: There are tears coming out of my eyes.
[59:07] Allyson A La Mode: Um, what's going on?
[59:09] Allison Dodge: Lives were changed.
[59:10] Allyson A La Mode: Lives were changed.
[59:12] Allison Dodge: She walked into that office and said, I'm gonna make history.
[59:15] Allyson A La Mode: Literally.
[59:16] Allison Dodge: She made some glistory that day.
[59:18] Allyson A La Mode: That's...
[59:19] Allison Dodge: It really... I'm entranced every single time.
[59:22] Allyson A La Mode: Every time.
[59:23] Allison Dodge: Put that mp4 on a DVD and send it into space so that aliens can know what's going on down on Earth.
[59:33] Allyson A La Mode: And pray that those aliens have a DVD player for the love of God.
[59:36] Allison Dodge: Exactly.
[59:37] Allyson A La Mode: Exactly.
[59:39] Allison Dodge: Otherwise, they're gonna miss out.
[59:41] Allyson A La Mode: They're gonna miss out on Drumpf.
[59:43] Allison Dodge: They're on some Drumpfification.
[59:45] Allyson A La Mode: Um, oh my God. What is the moment that the tears really start to come, Allison Elmode?
[59:51] Allison Elmode: I feel like I put myself to when I first saw this in the common room of my college. And we every week we would all watch Glee together. And I had, I did not know what this song was. I had no idea. Like I hadn't, like, I don't know. I just, I was 18. I had no idea what the song was. And still didn't until after the fact. And I was just so captivated. Not know, I didn't know it was from a musical. Didn't know anything. And like, it really doesn't get any more Glee than this performance, really.
[1:00:25] Allison Dodge: And oh my God, I know you've done a video of him in a carousel. And I'm mourning the loss of carousels.
[1:00:31] Allyson A La Mode: The guy in the rugby shirt that looks like, oh wow.
[1:00:34] Allison Dodge: Oh wow.
[1:00:35] Allyson A La Mode: And then I think that he also says, she's really good.
[1:00:38] Allison Dodge: Oh my God, killing it.
[1:00:42] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[1:00:42] Allison Dodge: No, he's really pulling focus. I love him in the yellow, yellow and blue rugby shirt.
[1:00:47] Allyson A La Mode: I just like, you know, I obviously Don't Rain On My Parade is a staple. And maybe like the gay guys, like guys before Glee.
[1:00:55] Allison Dodge: I was, that's what I wrote down that I was like, this is like, I wouldn't put this on early hour of Gay Guy Music Video Night. But Deep Hour, it's like kind of like, it's kind of what I crave at an 11pm. Like an 11:30 that I'm like, okay, we're about to leave. I need to get this in before we actually head out.
[1:01:16] Allyson A La Mode: But did you know this song before this episode?
[1:01:20] Allison Dodge: No, I was a small, small child.
[1:01:24] Allyson A La Mode: Subscribe to my sub stack where I talk about why this performance specifically is the reason why Funny Girl revived on Broadway, I feel like.
[1:01:31] Allison Dodge: People don't know that you're hitting on a sub stack.
[1:01:39] Allyson A La Mode: That's not even a question.
[1:01:43] Allison Dodge: Where do I sign up?
[1:01:45] Allyson A La Mode: People want to hear about what I got to say. Um, yeah, this is, I feel like this 1000% brought this in Funny Girl in general into the cultural zeitgeist in a big, big way.
[1:02:00] Allison Dodge: And yeah, I'm introducing the youth for sure.
[1:02:04] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah, and another generation of yes, funny gals. Um, yeah. Also, Allison Alamode, you went to go see Lea Michele opening night Funny Girl. Is that correct?
[1:02:13] Allison Elmode: It was her.
[1:02:15] Allison Dodge: It was her second performance.
[1:02:16] Allison Elmode: So she had performed the Thursday, I want to say, prior and then or I don't know, the Tuesday prior and I went to the Wednesday matinee.
[1:02:26] Allison Dodge: Yes.
[1:02:27] Allison Elmode: And, and I had our and I'd already seen Beanie do it. And so I was like, when I watched it, I was like, you guys, why is everyone talking so much shit? Like, she's good. Like, I didn't, I didn't think it was bad. And then I saw Lea Michele.
[1:02:41] Allison Dodge: And then, and I was like, yeah, what's Beanie doing?
[1:02:43] Allison Elmode: Oh, Beanie's pregnant.
[1:02:47] Allison Dodge: Let her be pregnant.
[1:02:48] Allison Elmode: Is she?
[1:02:48] Allison Dodge: Yeah, I think she is.
[1:02:50] Allison Elmode: Last I checked.
[1:02:51] Allison Dodge: But like, I would never I don't, you know, I don't do like the comparing the two actresses things. But I will say like, when I saw Lea Michele perform this role, I was like, oh, fuck. Yeah, she's really good.
[1:03:03] Allison Elmode: She's really good.
[1:03:04] Allison Dodge: There's a YouTube video that I've played a number of times where it like literally goes through the entire entirety of Drumpf. And they go section by section. And they're like, here's how Lea approaches the beginning of Drumpf. Here is how Barbara approaches the beginning of Drumpf. Here's how Julie Benko does the beginning of Drumpf. Here's how Beanie and it's it's just like those four that they do like the it's like probably like a 30 minute long video that it's like, probably not that long. But like, it's like it's the entirety of the song, but section by section.
[1:03:37] Allyson A La Mode: It's good.
[1:03:38] Allison Dodge: It's just if you want to compare the girls.
[1:03:41] Allyson A La Mode: It's not fair to Beanie.
[1:03:43] Allison Dodge: The whole situation was like, if you wanted to put like a new like an unconventional choice, then then you should have stood on business. Like, okay, obviously, Lea Michele is going to be amazing. But like, it just was an unfortunate circle. Like, had Lea Michele not been added. And like, I think she would have been fine. And maybe people would have been like speculating like, oh, Lea would have been great. But the fact that she they did cast her after the fact, and then release a cast recording with her instead. Oh, messy boots.
[1:04:16] Allyson A La Mode: That was crazy.
[1:04:17] Allison Dodge: And then had I was in New York Macy's Day Parade announcement happened. I was like walking through the subway.
[1:04:24] Allyson A La Mode: Everybody remembers where they were.
[1:04:28] Allison Dodge: That was an insane day. Because I remember like that, that day that I was like, because the night before they were like casting announcement coming tomorrow. And I was like, and then there was already like speculation. High speculation that it was going to be Lea. And I was like, it's going to be at noon. That's going to be announced. And like, I just like need to be. And it was during BroadwayCon. That's why I was even in New York.
[1:04:52] Allyson A La Mode: Oh, really?
[1:04:54] Allison Dodge: Yeah, I was in New York for BroadwayCon. And they announced it during BroadwayCon. Crazy.
[1:04:58] Allyson A La Mode: So like, that was an insane day. Because I remember also Allison Dodge, we, you like scheduled a trip that day that it was like, okay, yeah, she's doing it. And then we were doing it. We bought tickets. I was in my work office with you on the phone or something. And I was like, we're buying tickets right now. We're going.
[1:05:20] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[1:05:22] Allison Dodge: No, I flew to New York for 24 hours. And it almost feels surreal like that that even happened. You know what I mean?
[1:05:29] Allyson A La Mode: I love shit like that, though. Andrew, I met you that day in person.
[1:05:33] Allison Dodge: That's what I was. That's why I remember it. That it was like, that was the same day as Lea.
[1:05:38] Allyson A La Mode: The Glee 54 Below.
[1:05:40] Allison Dodge: Yes. I did a Glee day. I did a matinee, Funny Girl, and then evening Glee 54 Below.
[1:05:47] Allyson A La Mode: Wow, that's fun.
[1:05:50] Allison Dodge: But this performance of Drumpf, I just like, the thing that always stands out to me, maybe some Gleeks won't get this, but I love it, is the Britney shot of her.
[1:06:06] Allyson A La Mode: I love the shot.
[1:06:07] Allison Dodge: And for whatever reason, Heather Morris is serving face for some reason.
[1:06:10] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah.
[1:06:11] Allison Dodge: When she dials into the Beyonce dancer, that it's like, okay, that's no longer Britney. That's Heather Morris. I just love that shot of like, because it's, I'll mark my band out. That it's like, I just think it's really, really special that it's Britney, that it's someone so diametrically different than Rachel. That it's like, this is still her band that she's bringing out. I just think it's really, really special.
[1:06:38] Allyson A La Mode: And also, I was thinking about, and I'm telling you, and I'm like, kind of, I'm very remiss of what this would have been for, like if Mercedes had this big moment at a competition, where she got to do her big thing in front of a large audience.
[1:06:58] Allison Dodge: And it's just annoying that it was just kind of confined to the choir room.
[1:07:06] Allyson A La Mode: Right.
[1:07:07] Allison Dodge: But can you, like her, like starting the same way that Leah did coming out, like, and I, like from the back of the, like, it really should have been something. Do you think that, and I'm telling you, would still work with that same, like, walking track?
[1:07:20] Allyson A La Mode: I think, you know, I think so. And then she could be like, tear down the mountain, and then everybody comes out or something, you know, like.
[1:07:27] Allison Dodge: Oh, yeah.
[1:07:28] Allyson A La Mode: Yeah. But yeah, I just, I miss, I miss the reality. I'm gonna, one way to get me to vote for a number is to have Matt Rutherford in it, because I'm voting for any song with Matt Rutherford in it.
[1:07:43] Allison Dodge: Clocked him.
[1:07:44] Allyson A La Mode: Clocked him.
[1:07:45] Allison Dodge: There he was.
[1:07:46] Allyson A La Mode: Maybe if you included the beginning of And I Am Telling You, What's a Balladeer?
[1:07:52] Allison Dodge: What's a Balladeer?
[1:07:52] Allyson A La Mode: And he's saying Balladeer, Balladeer.
[1:07:54] Allison Dodge: I don't know.
[1:07:55] Allyson A La Mode: You don't know, I don't know.
[1:07:56] Allison Dodge: I don't know.
[1:07:57] Allyson A La Mode: I don't know.
[1:07:58] Allison Dodge: Um, oh, and the last thing that I want to say about this is no creases on the dress.
[1:08:04] Allyson A La Mode: I like that there are no creases.
[1:08:05] Allison Dodge: Freshly steamed.
[1:08:06] Allyson A La Mode: Freshly steamed.
[1:08:07] Allison Dodge: I feel like, fact check me.
