[0:00] Andrew: We've got a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.

[0:09] Andrew: There's no rhyme or reason to it, so don't get mad at me.

[0:18] Andrew: Glacket by Glacket, we'll rank everyone to see which song will move closer to spot number one.

[0:26] Andrew: Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week. It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.

[0:35] Andrew: Um, I really want to start this episode off in a really serious and somber tone. I, something happened last week that was really, really terrible and I'm hearing, I'm hearing from you, the Gleeks. I'm receiving your calls, I'm receiving your messages. I understand that a lot of people are hurt by things that transpired in last week's episode. And so here I am, I'm just trying to remedy the mistakes. You know, I'm trying to right the wrongs. I'm a work in progress and what I did to my man was kind of unforgivable. I'm not saying that I regret it, but you know, it was a hard decision. I'm living with it, stuck with me, and cue toxic gossip train.

[1:31] Andrew: Anyway, I'm joined by Conor this week. How are you?

[1:38] Andrew: I love the way you sound, I'm sure. I'm joined by Conor?

[1:42] Andrew: It's Conor, right?

[1:44] Conor Burke: I think it might, I might be wrong.

[1:47] Conor Burke: I could be wrong here.

[1:48] Conor Burke: It could be Conor.

[1:49] Andrew: Okay.

[1:50] Andrew: It could be Conor. I have to say, okay, do you want me to just jump straight into it?

[1:54] Conor Burke: Yes, please. Wait, can we, can we set the groundwork in case you, in case it doesn't actually mean anything to you listening? Like, hey, like what we're about to talk about.

[2:02] Andrew: Here's what you missed on Gleek of the Week.

[2:04] Andrew: Here's what you missed on Gleek of the Week. My man was taken out by four minutes and that happened. What are your thoughts, Conor?

[2:12] Conor Burke: My thoughts are four minutes of my man without looking at a list are in my top 50 Glee songs of all time.

[2:18] Conor Burke: 50.

[2:18] Conor Burke: I think the question, yeah, I think what the question just comes down to is that what do you want, like, what do you appreciate more out of the show? Do you appreciate, do you appreciate a pure, unfiltered, through and through bop a la four minutes? Or do you really appreciate a song that is so resonant with the character who's performing it, with where that character is at the moment in the series, the emotionality attached to it? And I do believe that most people can care about both of those things. But I think what happened is, is that it really depends on a in the moment decision. I also had a theory whilst listening to the episode that you probably would have voted my man should it have been pulled second.

[3:05] Andrew: Interesting. Wait, why do you say that?

[3:08] Conor Burke: Because I think in some ways, and this is just my opinion, I think that sometimes a song actually has, gets brownie points by being the second in the competition poll, because you are, it's fresh in your mind, you're excited to see it, even though four minutes is obviously fucking iconic, don't get me wrong. But it's just like, oh, wow. And it was so different to my man in the moment. Like, could you get more different to my man? That it's just kind of like, oh, okay. But it's just so interesting to note how, I mean, I know it sounds obvious as well, how differently that conversation would have went, should I have been on the podcast episode, should it have been Ian or Lena or like, but it's just like, I was shaken. And your vote did come out of left field for me.

[3:55] Andrew: Really?

[3:59] Conor Burke: Yeah, from what I know of you, I would have thought you would have voted the other way. Like if someone had taken my AirPods out of my ear in that moment and be like, which way is Andrew going to vote? I'd be like, he's going to vote for my man.

[4:10] Conor Burke: So it really does come down to me. I was, I'm the one at fault, not Patrick.

[4:16] Andrew: I think it's all coming, it's all coming back to me now.

[4:19] Conor Burke: Yeah.

[4:20] Conor Burke: Now, like, look and listen. This is the thing that we all keep saying. In a court of law, there are many ways, there are many for and against for almost every song being pulled at this stage. My man will probably be voted back into the bracket. Like, what's really interesting to me is that if we move into round four without the voting songs back in, like, oh my God, my blood pressure would have been through the roof because when that insurance policy is gone.

[4:47] Andrew: Oh.

[4:49] Conor Burke: Like.

[4:49] Conor Burke: Anybody, look around, anybody could die.

[4:52] Andrew: Anybody could die. And we're not thinking about that yet.

[4:55] Conor Burke: We're not. I know, my man is safe. My man has kind of like a, like a safety net for now.

[5:02] Andrew: She's got a safety net. But then again, like, I hate to bring the drama, you just don't know.

[5:10] Conor Burke: You just don't know. It's so true.

[5:13] Andrew: So my question for you is, is, hey, Mr. Producer, what messages and feedback.

[5:17] Conor Burke: I'm talking to you, sir. Yeah.

[5:21] Conor Burke: I'm talking to you, sir. What feedback have you been getting out of this competition?

[5:26] Andrew: People are mad. People are angry. People are pissed off, even.

[5:33] Conor Burke: I feel like I've, if there is a group of people that was happy with the four minutes going through, they have not been nearly as loud as the people that are upset.

[5:48] Andrew: So, and I do feel, I feel bad. Dot is in that group. I'm taking Dot, you mean that you're in the group where you're happy that four minutes is going through or my man? What are you saying?

[6:02] Conor Burke: Four minutes for life.

[6:02] Andrew: Four minutes for life.

[6:04] Conor Burke: OK, four minutes for life. Honestly, Dot, frontrunner for title of app. That's an iconic title. So.

[6:13] Andrew: Yeah, I was about to ask, like, was it like pretty 50-50 in terms of like the feedback?

[6:18] Conor Burke: But evidently not. But I don't know that. Like, I'm not again, I don't think it's the most egregious decision ever made in Glocken history at all. I can complete like four minutes is my jam. It's just. Like for you, like that, like, isn't my man in your top like five Rolos?

[6:38] Andrew: Yeah, let me actually look that up. I have a feeling that.

[6:40] Conor Burke: I thought you said it was like number three or something.

[6:42] Andrew: My man has to be three. If I have to guess, let's see, let's see, let's see.

[6:47] Andrew: My man, actually number two Rollo. Wow.

[6:52] Conor Burke: OK, that makes sense.

[6:54] Andrew: Only behind only exception. Number three is drop.

[6:57] Conor Burke: Classic.

[6:57] Andrew: Yeah, I don't know. Like, realistically, how many songs now have left that could be potentially back be back for like.

[7:06] Conor Burke: I think we're I think my man brought it to five. So my man was officially half and then we had six, which would be I still haven't found what I'm looking for.

[7:15] Andrew: So we have four more songs to make up that 10 and then that's all the contenders.

[7:20] Conor Burke: OK, so so far we've got my man. I still haven't found what I'm looking for. We have what what else is against us?

[7:26] Andrew: I know that without looking at a list, I know it's all over is in there.

[7:30] Conor Burke: I know that. Hell to the no.

[7:34] Andrew: And what was the episode between that?

[7:36] Conor Burke: Oh, marry you and marry you and getting married today.

[7:39] Andrew: Married today. Yeah.

[7:40] Conor Burke: OK, I think she could be safe.

[7:43] Andrew: I think I think she's definitely the strongest contender.

[7:46] Conor Burke: I feel bad that she's even in this limbo period, of course.

[7:49] Andrew: But of course.

[7:52] Conor Burke: And I feel bad for all the other beautiful girls that she's up against, because I think that like once my man kind of showed up at the at the Paradise Suite and was like, hey, I've I've also been eliminated. Everybody else is like, OK, then I'm definitely out.

[8:05] Andrew: Hey, guys.

[8:07] Conor Burke: And like getting married today is like, OK, I guess I'll go fuck myself.

[8:10] Andrew: I don't know. Yeah.

[8:12] Andrew: Um, yeah.

[8:13] Conor Burke: Rest in peace to getting married today.

[8:16] Andrew: We lost it. We lost.

[8:19] Conor Burke: We lost a good one.

[8:20] Andrew: I I'm so obsessed with her.

[8:23] Conor Burke: I just like, oh my God.

[8:24] Andrew: But like, I just think that, like, I don't know. I have so many thoughts about getting married today. I think it's just so inspired. I said my piece in the episode, which I'm very thankful for, that I got to send her off in a really beautiful fashion. But yeah, I will miss her.

[8:35] Conor Burke: But like I think what Patrick said in last week's episode as well is was completely correct. Like some of these competitions are really stressing me the fuck out.

[8:45] Andrew: Like, seriously, just looking at the glock in here, Bohemian Rhapsody versus Somebody to Love, Boogie Shoes versus Proud Mary.

[8:52] Conor Burke: Like, guys, this is not this is stressful now, but you're not.

[8:57] Andrew: Yeah, seriously.

[8:58] Conor Burke: No, but seriously, do you not feel like we're kind of low key entering a new era now where some of these are actually distinguishably more difficult than even just say a half a year ago?

[9:09] Andrew: Yeah, it's oh, no, it's it's really, really serious.

[9:14] Conor Burke: We're really separating the boys from the men.

[9:17] Andrew: We really are.

[9:17] Conor Burke: And like, you know, out of like all of the competitions, just say the last month, I would wager like maybe 40 percent, 45 percent of them.

[9:25] Conor Burke: Yeah, I could honestly be convinced to go either way.

[9:28] Andrew: Hey, and that's on Glee being iconic and that's on Glee just having A-plus performances all around.

[9:37] Conor Burke: Right.

[9:40] Conor Burke: It's on Kevin and Jenna.

[9:42] Andrew: Kevin and Jenna creating the performance at the end.

[9:44] Conor Burke: A-plus, plus, plus.

[9:45] Andrew: Yeah, A-plus, plus, plus.

[9:46] Conor Burke: The iconic A-plus, plus, plus.

[9:49] Andrew: Of course, the height of critical theory.

[9:54] Conor Burke: A-plus, plus, plus.

[9:55] Andrew: I always I always thought it was like really fun when when like a song would get like a B and I was like, oh, OK, so we're being a little critical.

[10:02] Conor Burke: Oh, they're all the Rolos.

[10:06] Andrew: OK, OK, I'm glad that you brought up Rolos because I obviously started this episode off with an apology to Rolos.

[10:11] Conor Burke: And I lit a candle in honor of.

[10:18] Andrew: I lit a candle in honor of Rolos, but I didn't just light it in honor of Rolos.

[10:23] Conor Burke: I also lit it with Rolos.

[10:26] Andrew: Yes, I went to a restaurant called Rolos recently and I was like, this is iconic.

[10:34] Conor Burke: I'm like, I need I need this match, this matchbox.

[10:37] Andrew: And so I'm setting.

[10:40] Conor Burke: I just don't want people to think that I'm not like in favor of Rolos.

[10:43] Andrew: I don't want people to think that.

[10:44] Conor Burke: Like, I'm actually like, I think.

[10:48] Andrew: No, but I think the fact that we don't have any Rolos around for yet is actually like that.

[10:52] Conor Burke: And that's what I want.

[10:54] Conor Burke: I want I want to be part of a competition that puts the first Rolo through to round four.

[10:59] Andrew: That's what I'm projecting.

[11:01] Conor Burke: I like, yeah, this press tour where it's like, oh, Andrew is seen doing good to Rolos, where it's like, oh, I was photographed helping a Rolo into round four.

[11:10] Andrew: You know, like Broadway bitches, kind of Broadway bitches.

[11:14] Conor Burke: There we go.

[11:14] Andrew: Thank you.

[11:15] Conor Burke: Yeah.

[11:15] Andrew: A plus plus plus.

[11:16] Conor Burke: A plus plus plus.

[11:18] Andrew: It was actually so hard not to get too off track, but it was so iconic listening to him. One of the most recent episodes of him.

[11:24] Conor Burke: That's what you really missed, where there were recapping the absolutely iconic flop Grease 2 and all of the musical numbers were C minus.

[11:36] Andrew: Wait, really?

[11:36] Conor Burke: I have been listening to recent episodes.

[11:40] Andrew: But I actually, so I, since they stopped the Glee recap, I stopped.

[11:45] Conor Burke: Then the last two weeks, what I've been doing is I've been watching the thing that they're recapping as a fun little jaunt for myself.

[11:49] Andrew: I've been watching you on Letterboxd and I'm like, oh, these movies that you're reviewing are kind of synced up with what I know Kevin and Jenna are watching.

[12:02] Conor Burke: Oh, is Connor on the production team?

[12:04] Andrew: Maybe.

[12:06] Conor Burke: It's all making sense now.

[12:07] Andrew: It's all making sense.

[12:09] Conor Burke: I love that.

[12:10] Andrew: I've been watching you on Letterboxd.

[12:12] Conor Burke: I've been watching you on Letterboxd.

[12:13] Andrew: Wait, OK, we're bringing it back to Galactic Revenges.

[12:17] Andrew: Obviously, we talked about Man Man a whole effing lot.

[12:21] Conor Burke: Is there anything else that you need to bring up?

[12:23] Andrew: I think that another deceptively difficult competition for me again, and this is not a criticism of the outcome.

[12:28] Andrew: I'm not going to teach your boyfriend how to dance with you versus marry you.

[12:31] Conor Burke: And actually, I'm watching Glee at the moment.

[12:33] Andrew: And I just watched season two, episode eight last night.

[12:37] Conor Burke: Why did that make me cry?

[12:39] Andrew: Oh my God, rewatching it.

[12:40] Conor Burke: Like, what the fuck?

[12:41] Andrew: It's really, really.

[12:42] Conor Burke: I've never had that reaction before.

[12:43] Andrew: And I was just so.

[12:46] Conor Burke: I don't know.

[12:46] Andrew: Cut me off, Gary.

[12:47] Conor Burke: I'm not going to lie.

[12:48] Conor Burke: And I think I think it's the one two punch of, like, marry you and also just the way you are that I'm like, oh my God, this this Bruno Mars themed wedding is so, oh my God.

[12:59] Andrew: Beautiful.

[13:00] Conor Burke: Obviously sandwiched into that the dialogue of one of you saved me from my wardrobe. The other one just saved me.

[13:04] Andrew: Excuse me.

[13:06] Conor Burke: Oh my God.

[13:08] Andrew: Me on the floor.

[13:09] Conor Burke: Yeah, that's oh my God.

[13:10] Andrew: I haven't.

[13:11] Conor Burke: That's a great line.

[13:12] Andrew: Yes, it's a great line.

[13:14] Conor Burke: It's probably one of the best written person you talked about last week.

[13:20] Conor Burke: Bert and Carol's wedding.

[13:22] Conor Burke: That little bit of dialogue is probably some of the best written dialogue in the entire series.

[13:27] Andrew: I think it's so it's so it's so great.

[13:29] Conor Burke: And also, like, I love that little joke of like, I thought it was like so intelligent after marry you, the priest, like saying like, oh, like, I want to I want to make this short because I know that people are going to fall asleep and then it cuts to Brittany already starting to fall asleep.

[13:45] Andrew: And I think that's like, so smart, because it's like, obviously, like, you don't, as a viewer, you don't want to watch like an entirely long, like, monologue.

[13:54] Conor Burke: It's like, hey, let's let's actually keep this compact and also make a joke about how compact 100% which I think is also just to say just about grievances.

[14:05] Andrew: None of these are grievances.

[14:06] Conor Burke: They're just kind of notes.

[14:09] Conor Burke: Like, like Boogie Shoes versus Pride Mary.

[14:11] Andrew: I would have voted Pride Mary.

[14:12] Conor Burke: But oh my God, Rest in Peace Boogie Shoes.

[14:14] Andrew: Like, see what I mean?

[14:15] Conor Burke: I love the way that you're saying Boogie Shoes.

[14:18] Andrew: Boogie.

[14:19] Conor Burke: Boogie.

[14:20] Andrew: It's but maybe it's a tomato, tomato kind of thing.

[14:23] Conor Burke: Wait, but when you hear Alex Newell sing the song.

[14:28] Andrew: I want to put on my, my, my, my, my Boogie Shoes.

[14:31] Conor Burke: That's what I do.

[14:32] Andrew: No, you're you're doing it differently.

[14:34] Conor Burke: You're doing it differently.

[14:35] Andrew: Yeah.

[14:36] Conor Burke: Oh, wait, Dot agrees with me, though.

[14:37] Andrew: It's Boogie over here.

[14:40] Conor Burke: Boogie.

[14:40] Andrew: Boogie.

[14:41] Conor Burke: Like, that sounds like you're almost like making like a Halloween sort of.

[14:45] Andrew: But if I see, see, Dot is British.

[14:47] Conor Burke: So she gets like the Brits and the Irish are going to say Boogie.

[14:51] Andrew: Yeah, she gets it.

[14:52] Conor Burke: Dot.

[14:52] Andrew: I actually thought it was Dot Marie Jones for it.

[14:54] Conor Burke: So thanks for clarifying that.

[14:56] Andrew: Oh, famous Brit.

[14:58] Conor Burke: Dot Marie Jones.

[15:00] Andrew: Hello.

[15:03] Conor Burke: Is there anything else that you need to bring up manifestations for this episode before we bring in our anything else I need to bring up?

[15:10] Kalle: No, I just want to say I've been loving the pod as always.

[15:13] Andrew: Great.

[15:13] Kalle: Amazing work.

[15:15] Kalle: Love all your guests somehow.

[15:17] Kalle: Like, and I honestly mean this.

[15:18] Kalle: Like, I'm still learning new things by listening to this podcast.

[15:23] Kalle: Like the most recent thing I can remember is obviously the iconic tidbit of Take Care of Yourself being released in 2011.

[15:31] Andrew: Perfect.

[15:31] Kalle: But there has been one literally every episode since I just can't think of them.

[15:35] Kalle: I'm like, what?

[15:36] Kalle: How did I never know that?

[15:37] Andrew: But the hit and or about something adjacent?

[15:40] Kalle: We're unpacking it.

[15:42] Kalle: We're almost five years deep.

[15:44] Andrew: We're we're really getting to the really fun tidbits.

[15:48] Kalle: Also, really enjoying the just to note, just on a production standpoint, really enjoying the Kristen Chenoweth jumpscare at the very start of an episode whenever you press play now.

[15:53] Andrew: OK, so I'm not I'm not listening.

[16:01] Kalle: I'm not listening.

[16:01] Andrew: I understand what you're talking about.

[16:03] Kalle: Doesn't it go from Kristen Chenoweth to Gloria Estefan?

[16:06] Andrew: Yeah, it does.

[16:08] Kalle: So that's like, oh, I think I believe it finishes with Lin-Manuel Miranda.

[16:14] Andrew: That's so iconic.

[16:17] Kalle: It's so.

[16:19] Andrew: So iconic.

[16:20] Kalle: I'm like, this was just meant to be.

[16:22] Kalle: Hey, y'all, it's Kristen Chenoweth and you're listening to the Broadway Podcast Network.

[16:27] Andrew: Hey, y'all, it's Kristen Chenoweth.

[16:29] Kalle: Oh, girl, I can't even get into her.

[16:32] Andrew: I cannot.

[16:34] Kalle: Oh my God.

[16:35] Kalle: Her interviews, her and Leah with the Elle magazine.

[16:38] Kalle: They're such a mess.

[16:40] Andrew: Oh my God.

[16:40] Kalle: It's like that actually did make me cry, though.

[16:44] Andrew: Yeah, of course.

[16:46] Kalle: Yeah.

[16:48] Andrew: OK.

[16:48] Kalle: Yeah, that's all I have to say.

[16:50] Andrew: Keep on trucking.

[16:50] Kalle: Keep on gleeking.

[16:51] Andrew: Keep on trucking.

[16:52] Andrew: Keep on gleeking.

[16:53] Andrew: Um, I believe it's time that we bring in our first Gleek this episode.

[16:56] Andrew: I'm bringing in Kalle.

[16:58] Kalle: Hello.

[17:01] Kalle: Hey.

[17:02] Kalle: Hey, Kalle from Finland, Finland, Finland, sporting a wicked, audio medium, wicked sweatshirt.

[17:16] Andrew: Kalle, how are you doing?

[17:18] Kalle: Kalle, yes.

[17:19] Kalle: How excited are you just off the back of that?

[17:21] Kalle: I mean, I feel like it's November 3rd now.

[17:23] Kalle: So what are we, three weeks out or something?

[17:26] Andrew: Yeah, I mean, I bought my ticket yesterday, last night.

[17:31] Kalle: So really excited to be watching the trailer 100 times over and over again.

[17:35] Andrew: So obsessed.

[17:38] Kalle: I like, I literally like, can't believe that we are like, like, thank goodness.

[17:42] Kalle: Ariana version is kind of like, in reach.

[17:47] Andrew: Need it.

[17:48] Kalle: Yeah, yeah.

[17:49] Kalle: And I've been actually listening to the original, thank goodness, because everybody's been hyping up the song.

[17:55] Andrew: Yeah.

[17:56] Kalle: But yeah, I think Ariana's gonna crush it.

[18:00] Andrew: I remember waking up on the release of wicked part one and obviously going to see it that day.

[18:08] Kalle: But like the.

[18:11] Kalle: The restraint that I had to show to not listen to the soundtrack before going to the cinema to see it was unbelievable.

[18:20] Andrew: Wait, OK, I want to bring up like they're doing OK, the week that we're recording this on November 3rd.

[18:25] Kalle: I think that by the time that this episode gets released, the live in concert thing will have already happened.

[18:31] Kalle: I believe.

[18:33] Andrew: Are we getting?

[18:33] Kalle: Yeah, I think it's on the 8th.

[18:35] Kalle: We're getting songs?

[18:37] Andrew: We're getting like, are we getting no good deed and thank goodness, like, review here?

[18:44] Kalle: I, I believe they're definitely singing for good.

[18:48] Kalle: It's the first time we're going to hear Ariana and Cynthia sing for good together.

[18:51] Andrew: But like.

[18:53] Kalle: It's not I don't believe I'm open for correction.

[18:57] Kalle: I don't believe we're going to be hearing the movie versions of that make like obviously it's a live performance.

[19:02] Andrew: So do you know what I mean?

[19:05] Kalle: No, I know what you mean.

[19:06] Kalle: Yeah, but I almost like wish that we were like getting like I don't like now I'm like not going to watch it because I don't want to listen to even this version of them singing for good together until I watch it within context of the movie.

[19:20] Andrew: And then I can go back.

[19:22] Kalle: Yeah, it's so interesting because literally just before getting on this recording, I was listening to the Wicked official podcast.

[19:29] Kalle: Have you heard about this?

[19:30] Andrew: Yes, yes, yes.

[19:31] Kalle: Yeah, yeah.

[19:31] Andrew: And so the first episode was just that.

[19:33] Kalle: And I'm like, oh my God, it's so fun.

[19:34] Andrew: Like, it's really cool.

[19:36] Kalle: And I do love event cinema and event movie going on.

[19:39] Kalle: I think it's brilliant.

[19:39] Kalle: And I think we need it.

[19:40] Andrew: But then I don't know.

[19:41] Kalle: There are people who got very exhausted by the overconsumption of the constant.

[19:46] Andrew: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[19:48] Kalle: Like, I mean, I know it costs hundreds of millions to make and they need to make the money.

[19:52] Andrew: I did see an interesting TikTok, though, by these podcasters where it was like, do you think Wicked Part Two Electric Boogaloo is going to make more money, less money or the same amount of money as part one?

[20:06] Kalle: It's at least the same for sure.

[20:08] Andrew: You're saying the same.

[20:09] Kalle: I yeah, it's such an interesting conversation.

[20:12] Kalle: Do you know what I mean?

[20:13] Andrew: I think that I like your optimism, Kalle.

[20:17] Andrew: I think that I'm a little bit more pessimistic about it.

[20:21] Kalle: I just think that, like, I can't see it getting more.

[20:26] Kalle: I can't see it getting the same.

[20:27] Andrew: How do you mean box office?

[20:30] Kalle: Because I think that, like, after having like a full year now with part one, part one exists almost as an entire story that could be a wrapped up story.

[20:42] Andrew: So it's like, yeah, yeah, I don't think that's a controversial take either.

[20:46] Kalle: I think most people who love the stage show would agree at least that the stage version, the first act is much stronger than the second.

[20:53] Andrew: Yeah, where I'm like, but then also I think that what they're doing with the part two marketing is really smart by getting people to come in to watch part two because they have so much tie ins, of course, with Wizard of Oz.

[21:07] Kalle: And so it's like, hey, you know, this movie that literally everybody has seen.

[21:12] Kalle: Let's let's like get these people to come in and find out the roots of all these aspects of this world, which I think is fun.

[21:20] Andrew: I am intrigued to see what the surprises will be and the Easter eggs will be in this second part, like the way there was Kristen and Agena in part one.

[21:28] Kalle: Yeah, maybe not as something as big as that, but like, they definitely have some little things up their sleeve there that even like the influencers and the the Oz fans and stuff who've got to see it recently can't even speak about as of yet.

[21:41] Andrew: So I'm very intrigued to see what's happening there.

[21:44] Kalle: Anyway, very intrigued.

[21:45] Kalle: Do you have any additional thoughts here?

[21:47] Andrew: No, no.

[21:48] Kalle: I mean, yeah, maybe I'm optimistic, but I think that with the part one, because some people watched it on streaming and like later on.

[21:59] Kalle: So what I'm thinking is that they will make at least the same amount.

[22:03] Andrew: Yeah, I'm hoping you're right in the box office.

[22:06] Kalle: Yeah, we'll see.

[22:08] Kalle: I mean, I'm going to see it though.

[22:10] Andrew: Hey, I'm going to see it a number of times.

[22:14] Andrew: Are you both doing the double feature or are you just going to go see it singularly?

[22:19] Kalle: They don't have it here.

[22:21] Kalle: I don't even know if they have it.

[22:22] Kalle: I feel like there's only select cinemas here.

[22:24] Kalle: Everything's in America.

[22:26] Andrew: Do you remember the videos of someone doing like almost like a Rocky Horror sort of thing within the theatre of like they do like the shadow cast beneath?

[22:32] Kalle: Yes.

[22:37] Andrew: Wicked.

[22:37] Kalle: So I know the person that put together that from last year and I messaged and I was like, if you do it again this year, you need to let me know.

[22:46] Kalle: And I think I am going.

[22:48] Kalle: It's a little bit pricey, I'll be honest.

[22:50] Andrew: What is the shadow cast for part one?

[22:53] Kalle: For part two.

[22:55] Kalle: So this is like, I think like second week in December.

[22:58] Andrew: Oh, okay.

[22:59] Kalle: So they've got time to rehearse.

[23:00] Andrew: Time to rehearse.

[23:01] Kalle: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[23:02] Andrew: But, you know.

[23:04] Kalle: Sorry, what does it mean?

[23:05] Andrew: Shadow cast?

[23:06] Kalle: Okay, so like, it's like, okay, so this this guy, I know he rented out a movie theatre and and like hired actors.

[23:11] Kalle: I'll send you the video after from last year.

[23:17] Kalle: Hired actors to like play Elphaba, play Glinda.

[23:21] Andrew: And so like when like popular is happening, you obviously have Ariana Grande's Glinda on the screen, but then you also have an actor like doing the things underneath the screen.

[23:31] Kalle: And there's props and there's costumes, of course.

[23:34] Andrew: And it's all like stupid and fun.

[23:36] Kalle: But doesn't take away from the movie.

[23:40] Andrew: Well, I don't think that.

[23:41] Kalle: I mean, I wouldn't, I wouldn't.

[23:42] Andrew: Yeah, I wouldn't do it for like first time.

[23:47] Kalle: I think it's for freaks to go to like myself.

[23:51] Andrew: But I think it will be, it would be one of those things that once you're in there, you're like, this was worth it.

[23:55] Kalle: Yeah, yeah.

[23:57] Andrew: Kalle, speaking of things that are worth it.

[24:01] Andrew: What Glacket competitions would you say weren't worth it?

[24:05] Kalle: Which Glacket competitions do you hate?

[24:07] Andrew: That's my segue.

[24:08] Kalle: I don't know.

[24:09] Kalle: There was something in the last episode.

[24:11] Kalle: I think you brought it up.

[24:12] Kalle: Like, oh, there is something that happened.

[24:16] Kalle: My, my man.

[24:17] Andrew: Yeah.

[24:18] Kalle: Yeah.

[24:18] Kalle: Yes, yes.

[24:23] Kalle: To be honest, I really like when my man came, I was like, OK, it's going through no matter what.

[24:29] Kalle: And then it was like, four minutes.

[24:32] Kalle: And I'm like, OK, whatever.

[24:34] Kalle: And then you were like, hyping it up.

[24:36] Kalle: Like, this is the best song on Glee.

[24:38] Kalle: And I'm like, wait, did I miss something?

[24:41] Kalle: Like, what's happening?

[24:44] Andrew: You don't understand four minutes.

[24:46] Kalle: Like four minutes is a never stream for you.

[24:48] Andrew: Wow.

[24:51] Kalle: I mean, it's OK, but I don't stream it.

[24:54] Kalle: Like, it's fun in the episode with the context and everything.

[24:58] Kalle: But I don't stream it at all because I think.

[25:01] Andrew: I just, I think Kalle raises a really interesting point here.

[25:08] Andrew: And that when, when he said, OK, so when my man was pulled.

[25:11] Andrew: Yeah.

[25:12] Andrew: I think part of the problem is, is that when you hear a song like my man being pulled from the cup and I'm just like, it's my man.

[25:19] Andrew: You immediately subconsciously say to yourself, oh, it's safe.

[25:23] Andrew: Even if you don't know that you've said that yourself, that's what your subconscious is telling you.

[25:27] Andrew: It's safe.

[25:29] Andrew: So even when four minutes was pulled.

[25:31] Andrew: What I'm just struggling to understand about the competition as a whole is that like, if you consider my man to be one of the Mount Rushmore of Rolos.

[25:40] Kalle: Like.

[25:40] Andrew: Which it most certainly is.

[25:41] Kalle: Is it?

[25:41] Andrew: Yeah.

[25:42] Kalle: Yes.

[25:43] Andrew: Is it like with, is it beating out really iconic Mer Solos for you?

[25:48] Andrew: Is it beating out Santolos for you?

[25:51] Andrew: Is it like.

[25:51] Kalle: Well, you know what I mean?

[25:52] Andrew: You need to name, you need to name the iconic Mer Solos that you're thinking of.

[25:57] Kalle: Like, is it beating out Bust Your Windows?

[25:59] Kalle: Is it beating out.

[26:00] Kalle: And I'm telling you, I'm not going.

[26:02] Andrew: Is it beating out even like a iconic Bolo, like cough syrup?

[26:08] Andrew: Is it beating out Rose's Turn?

[26:11] Kalle: That's what I'm struggling with.

[26:12] Kalle: Because I'm, I'm, I know they're not the same, but I'm just kind of thinking in regards to other characters.

[26:18] Andrew: I am very curious.

[26:20] Kalle: Your thoughts, Kalle.

[26:22] Kalle: I think so.

[26:24] Kalle: I.

[26:25] Kalle: For me, it's obvious.

[26:26] Kalle: It's so, it's so obvious.

[26:28] Kalle: It's like, my man kind of, my man.

[26:30] Kalle: How, top, how many songs?

[26:33] Kalle: Top 10?

[26:33] Kalle: Top five?

[26:36] Andrew: Top five.

[26:37] Kalle: What's number one?

[26:42] Kalle: Well, my number one is not maybe that obvious because like, I would say my number one is the one I stream the most.

[26:51] Kalle: And I would say it's like cough syrup or Boogie Shoes.

[26:56] Andrew: Whoa.

[26:57] Kalle: What was it?

[26:58] Kalle: Boogie Shoes.

[27:00] Andrew: How did you say that?

[27:06] Kalle: I just feel like, and I already said it in the last week's episode, that like my man, having time to stew on it as well, that like my man, you're not as much as it's iconic and she blows it out of the park and everything.

[27:18] Kalle: I just think that when you think about like the winner of the Glackett, to me, it's a song that is already great on its own, but then also creatively is lifted because of the way that it was produced within the show.

[27:31] Kalle: My man, frankly, to me, I think like if my man was part of a, like a more, it's almost like the, and I am telling you effect, where it's like, my man I wish kind of like had, was a little bit more heavier.

[27:47] Kalle: Like it was part of a larger plot instead of, hey, this is me auditioning for nationals next week.

[27:56] Andrew: Nationals.

[27:58] Kalle: Yeah, but like Four Minutes was just Curt and Mercedes showing what they can do with the videos.

[28:04] Andrew: OK.

[28:06] Andrew: You make a very valid point.

[28:07] Andrew: However, Four Minutes to me, I think there's spectacle, there's fun.

[28:15] Andrew: There is creativity, of course, with Four Minutes because, because Curt sings the Madonna part and Mercedes sings Justin Timberlake.

[28:23] Kalle: The gender swap.

[28:24] Andrew: The gender swap, that's creative.

[28:26] Kalle: No, you are so right.

[28:27] Andrew: And again, listen, Four Minutes, like one of my faves.

[28:32] Andrew: I love her and I'm glad she's safe.

[28:35] Andrew: Just an exceptionally unfortunate competition, which unfortunately, Gleeks listening at home, we're going to have to start getting used to this.

[28:41] Kalle: We're going to get used to this.

[28:43] Andrew: Just to say, Emily, my love, just all my love to you because I know your feelings towards my man and I could feel the pain and hurt and sorrow.

[28:54] Kalle: I know your feelings towards my man.

[28:57] Andrew: Stay away from my man.

[29:00] Kalle: Yeah.

[29:01] Andrew: So good for her.

[29:03] Kalle: Anyway, Kalle, I'm sorry.

[29:05] Kalle: So I actually wanted to keep it short.

[29:10] Kalle: Then another one, maybe there's a pattern, but the other one is It's All Coming Back to Me Now versus Drumpf.

[29:16] Andrew: OK, and Drumpf went through.

[29:18] Kalle: So this was like almost a year ago.

[29:19] Andrew: Yes, yeah.

[29:20] Kalle: Yeah.

[29:22] Kalle: So I really don't understand it because for me, It's All Coming Back to Me Now, I would say top five as well, somewhere in there.

[29:30] Andrew: Wait, and then where's Drumpf?

[29:31] Kalle: But top 20, 30, something like that.

[29:39] Kalle: I don't know.

[29:40] Kalle: I think that in the first season, maybe her voice wasn't, maybe it was too much in the character of Rachel.

[29:50] Kalle: I don't know if you know what I mean.

[29:53] Andrew: Yeah.

[30:00] Conor Burke: Like, for "It's All Coming Back to Me Now," I only remember, like, Samuel, how do you say, Samuel Larson?

[30:05] Kalle: Yeah. Yes.

[30:08] Conor Burke: In the background doing the whole hand choreography, like, it's iconic. Would it be fair to say that "Drumpf" versus "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" is perhaps the competition in every episode of Gleek of the Week ever that yielded the most interesting conversation?

[30:16] Kalle: I think it's so fascinating because it is... Do you know what I mean? I wouldn't say "Drumpf" is the beginning of her arc, of course, but, like, it is, like, kind of, like, beginning of a hero's journey, kind of end of a hero's journey.

[30:27] Conor Burke: Yeah.

[30:28] Kalle: It's not necessarily true, but yeah. It's so fascinating. Like, when I was listening to it back in the day, I knew immediately where I would have went, and I still feel that way the same way today. But, and it's not like I could be open to the other side of it, but I completely and utterly understand why so many people would prefer "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" to go through.

[30:44] Conor Burke: What was the Instagram poll results about that like?

[30:47] Kalle: Literally 50-50.

[30:48] Conor Burke: 50-50.

[30:50] Kalle: Yes.

[30:51] Conor Burke: Yeah, I mean, I get it. Like, I'm not mad about it.

[30:54] Kalle: Yeah.

[30:55] Conor Burke: Well, I am a bit mad about it, but I'm okay now after a year. For me, yes, they're so close, of course, that they're both, like, so iconic. But the thing that "Drumpf" has that kind of push, like, sets it just a little bit higher, that shot of them marching the band out. I'll march my band out, them walking down the aisle. That's so iconic, and "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" just doesn't have that.

[31:14] Kalle: What do we think?

[31:15] Conor Burke: But it has Whoopi.

[31:16] Kalle: It has Whoopi.

[31:17] Conor Burke: It has Egot Whoopi.

[31:18] Kalle: Yeah.

[31:19] Conor Burke: Whistling.

[31:20] Kalle: Exactly.

[31:21] Conor Burke: Yeah.

[31:22] Kalle: Whistling.

[31:23] Conor Burke: Lindsay Lohan from Spare.

[31:24] Kalle: Lindsay Lohan.

[31:25] Conor Burke: Perez Hilton.

[31:26] Kalle: Perez, of course.

[31:27] Conor Burke: Yeah, Perez.

[31:28] Kalle: Other judge.

[31:29] Conor Burke: Yeah, yeah. Kalle, what else do we need to talk about?

[31:32] Kalle: Two more points.

[31:33] Conor Burke: Okay.

[31:34] Kalle: These are short ones, not competitions, but maybe there are songs that I don't really understand, A, why people like it that much, and B, why they hate it that much. So the first one that people like is, "Rumor Has It / Someone Like You."

[31:46] Conor Burke: Whoa.

[31:47] Kalle: Whoa.

[31:48] Conor Burke: Whoa.

[31:49] Kalle: Okay.

[31:50] Conor Burke: You don't understand why people like it?

[31:52] Kalle: No.

[31:53] Conor Burke: Oh.

[31:54] Kalle: But I think, Andrew, you might get me a bit on this.

[31:57] Conor Burke: Yeah.

[31:58] Kalle: Stay from Andrew right now or he'll beat you.

[32:01] Conor Burke: I'm just like, you've had a lot of time for this song to come around. I'm really curious.

[32:06] Kalle: Sorry. You know, the live version of "Someone Like You," it's a bit different from the recorded.

[32:10] Conor Burke: Yeah.

[32:11] Kalle: So after I heard that, the sort of album studio version sounds annoying in my ears.

[32:16] Conor Burke: Yeah.

[32:17] Kalle: Because it's so high up there, like the "Someone Like You" part when Santana sings it. And after that, I just can't listen to it.

[32:25] Conor Burke: But that's on emotionality. That's on her relationship with Britney. That's on being outed.

[32:30] Kalle: Well, maybe I don't understand it then. Can't relate.

[32:34] Conor Burke: Thank you for being really brave with that opinion. Connor, do you have any thoughts on that?

[32:39] Conor Burke: I mean, I respect free speech.

[32:41] Kalle: Yeah.

[32:42] Conor Burke: And it's actually genuinely refreshing to hear someone come on with a hot take that is genuinely hot. Because I'm and I'm speaking about myself. I'm like, guys, this is probably an unpopular opinion. And then I just go on to quote the most popular opinion ever.

[32:56] Kalle: Right.

[32:57] Conor Burke: Like, I'm not like other girls. And then I will just say the thing that... And all the other girls are like, no, we're all like you.

[33:06] Kalle: Yeah.

[33:07] Conor Burke: All the other girls are right here behind me.

[33:09] Kalle: So I do. I do respect you, Kalle, for bravely coming on and speaking your truth.

[33:13] Kalle: Yeah, it's iconic.

[33:14] Conor Burke: Oh, no, I'm scaring Dot. Dot in the chat.

[33:17] Kalle: Dot Marie Jones, really, really scared.

[33:19] Conor Burke: I love the way Dot wrote, Kalle, you're scaring me.

[33:22] Kalle: And it's all in lowercase.

[33:25] Conor Burke: Kalle, please.

[33:27] Kalle: Okay, then my last point.

[33:29] Conor Burke: Okay.

[33:30] Kalle: I want to defend "Do They Know It's Christmas?" It's Christmas, so it's timely.

[33:34] Conor Burke: Defend it.

[33:35] Kalle: That's my favorite Christmas song.

[33:36] Conor Burke: Okay.

[33:37] Kalle: And everybody hates it.

[33:39] Conor Burke: Yeah.

[33:40] Kalle: And I don't really understand why. I think it's because of the one lyric in the song.

[33:44] Conor Burke: Snow in Africa or something like that.

[33:47] Kalle: Do they know it's Christmas time in Africa?

[33:50] Conor Burke: Ah, yeah. Right.

[33:51] Kalle: There won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time.

[33:55] Conor Burke: This Christmas time.

[33:56] Kalle: Yeah. Exactly.

[33:57] Conor Burke: The greatest gift they'll get this year is life.

[34:01] Kalle: I mean, we're just repeating the song back to you, Kalle. Defend it.

[34:05] Kalle: Yeah. I mean, it sounds great. I mean, I don't really like it sounds great. Everybody gets to sing in it. I love the original. I love the 2014 version that they did.

[34:16] Conor Burke: Defend it.

[34:17] Kalle: Yeah. Was that the one where they put rapping into it and stuff?

[34:20] Conor Burke: No, no, no, no. It was with One Direction and Ellie Goulding was there.

[34:24] Kalle: I almost swear there's one version where there's like a rapper in the middle of it.

[34:28] Conor Burke: Okay.

[34:29] Kalle: I don't want to hear that one.

[34:30] Conor Burke: I don't want to hear that.

[34:32] Kalle: Yeah, no, no. Wait, because they do it every 20 years, right?

[34:35] Conor Burke: Actually, now they canceled it because everybody hates that.

[34:38] Kalle: Really?

[34:39] Conor Burke: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[34:41] Kalle: But yeah, I mean, it was like it was raising money every time.

[34:44] Conor Burke: Yeah, I think they chose the wrong song to raise money.

[34:47] Kalle: Yeah, I guess so. I just I feel like that is that like the song with like the most like vocalists of like the main cast on a singular song?

[34:55] Conor Burke: Looking at a list. Yes, I think so. For me, it's not even even even though those lyrics are very meh. Like we all know that. It's just for me, just a Gleaver, just like a nutting burger. It's just kind of there like in two seconds and you forgot about it. And we've moved on and we've moved on. I just think that like I wish that happens. I wish that like we had a lot of we had like we had a better song where everybody was invited into the studio. You know, I mean, hey, we're not we're not letting anybody like leaving anybody out. Come on in. We're singing "Do They Know It's Christmas?" No.

[35:37] Kalle: But I mean, Casey is saying in the chat also that the lyrics are crazy. But I think there's just two of the lyrics are crazy and the rest of it is pretty.

[35:44] Conor Burke: Okay.

[35:45] Kalle: All right. We're going to do a percentage wise pretty versus crazy. We're going to we're really going to find out how it really comes out in the math.

[35:52] Conor Burke: Yeah. No, but I'm loving your energy purely because you came on here to talk about how you don't get "Rumor Has It / Someone Like You" and then the same breath defended "Do They Know It's Christmas Time?" This is what we need. This is what we need on the Glacket.

[36:06] Kalle: So what are you hoping to see today?

[36:09] Conor Burke: So I was looking at the Glacket document. Well, I was actually I saw "Rocky Horror" two days ago. So "Sweet Transvestite." Okay. Always fun. And actually, maybe this is my last top five songs. So "Homeward Bound / Home," because I know people are not that fond of it. I think in the last rounds device. So it's good.

[36:30] Kalle: Yeah. Okay. All right. Well, here we go, everybody. It's going to be it's going to be this one. Oh, got a season two song. Okay. Give us a clue.

[36:39] Conor Burke: It really is like kind of like front runner for like winner of the Glacket for me for me. I think that like a not a lot of people are like saying like, Oh, I just think, Oh, my God. Just looking at this thumbnail. I'm like getting emotional.

[36:56] Kalle: Well, you are you can see it because the name is at the top.

[36:59] Conor Burke: "Dog Days."

[37:00] Kalle: "Dog Days." Okay. I'm obsessed. "Dog Days Are Over." Kalle, please take it away.

[37:06] Kalle: I mean, I originally when this was on the show, I didn't love it. But when I saw Florence and the Machine live, like a few years ago, this song that I sort of got the song and can appreciate it more in Glee as well in the context. But yeah, it was fun. It's always fun.

[37:24] Conor Burke: It's always fun.

[37:25] Kalle: But yeah, it was fun. It's always fun. And there was random plot between the song. Like there was a lot of plots at the same time. There was not a lot. So there was that. We got a little bit. Cur in Pavarotti. We got Carl and Emma Rachel at the locker.

[37:39] Conor Burke: Yes.

[37:40] Kalle: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And there was this weird like I just put down like Emma lip bite. It was so weird because after they hugged, she was like, Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.

[37:56] Conor Burke: So it was so it was so weird because after they hugged, she was like biting her lip.

[37:59] Kalle: Well, because she's like, Wait, am I actually like going through this? They just updated my sign outside of my office. And here I am reconsidering being married to this man. I was thinking like, Am I horny?

[38:12] Conor Burke: Wait, is that what you say to you? Connor, what is the lip bite?

[38:15] Kalle: The lip bite, maybe because a couple of episodes later, like seven or eight episodes later, she obviously has the classic "Born This Way" opening her blouse really slowly. So maybe it's a recurring theme.

[38:30] Conor Burke: I do have to say, that's my favorite thing in filmed media, in scripted drama, whatever it may be, when the character goes in for their hug and the true emotion is revealed just over the shoulder. Drama. And it's like the hug recipient can't see what the face is doing.

[38:49] Kalle: The hug recipient cannot see.

[38:51] Conor Burke: The woes of being a hug recipient.

[38:53] Kalle: I know. No one says the downfalls of being a hug recipient. You don't know what the face is doing of the hugger.

[39:01] Conor Burke: Can I just say as well, I think this could be my favorite Tina Cohen-Chang verse. I think it's so great. I remember when I was a junior in high school, there was like a week where I just was drawing Tina and where I was like drawing Tina from different, okay.

[39:19] Kalle: The next time you're talking to Jenna, you need to bring this up.

[39:22] Conor Burke: She's like, okay. I wish. They have to be somewhere, but I remember I specifically drew Tina in "Bad Romance." I drew Tina here and I drew Tina, oh, Tina in "Flashdance: What a Feeling," and then also Tina in "Call Me Maybe."

[39:38] Kalle: Four great, great choices.

[39:39] Conor Burke: Yeah. I just know that the "Dog Days Are Over" Tina fit got so many hits in fashionably. You just know it did.

[39:45] Kalle: Oh my God, it's great. It's so good. And I think that also, well, I think Mike in the episode is like, oh, you're back to dressing normally again. So the outfit literally gets acknowledged within universe, which I always like. It's like, oh, you're acknowledging a slay fit, which you should.

[40:02] Conor Burke: And would it be fair to say, for me at least, I don't know about you guys, this is probably one of my favorite genre of Glee songs, as in a lot of plots are wrapped up, but some of them are up in the air. It's kind of approaching a massive finale after competition, end of episode number, do you know what I mean?

[40:19] Kalle: I love—

[40:20] Conor Burke: Yeah, it's like "We Are Young."

[40:21] Kalle: Yeah.

[40:22] Conor Burke: "We Are Young." Almost the same.

[40:23] Kalle: Yeah, yeah.

[40:24] Conor Burke: I love that they have this cloud backdrop exclusively for when they win sectionals. Obsessed. It's so iconic. It's like Mr. Schuster eyes it up before the competition and he's like, I'll be seeing you soon.

[40:38] Kalle: I will. I will be seeing you soon, and this time it will be personal.

[40:42] Conor Burke: Favorite tune of it.

[40:43] Kalle: Oh my God. Just sorry to bring the conversation here. The Blake Jenner lookalike jump scare at the very start of this musical performance got me to thinking, Cynthia Erivo meme, got me to thinking about the Shane Litchell—

[40:56] Conor Burke: Wait.

[40:57] Kalle: I thought it was Blake Jenner.

[40:58] Conor Burke: It was not Blake Jenner.

[41:00] Kalle: We—

[41:01] Conor Burke: It's like you're like, boy, you are not the father.

[41:05] Kalle: You are not Blake Jenner.

[41:06] Conor Burke: It was not Blake Jenner. No, because I literally, I think we literally brought this up last round where I posted on story, I was like, hey, do we think this is Blake Jenner or not? And it was like, yes or no, and it was divided. But then Robert Ulrich responded and said, no, that is not Blake Jenner. And so I think that we know now for a fact.

[41:25] Kalle: It's not him. Unless he's lying. But I was just, it got me to thinking, my mind, honestly. So I need, it's really like I'm diagnosed OCD, so it really bothers me that I don't have three examples of this. I only have two. We do have a Blake, we have a Blake Jenner lookalike in season two, episode nine, "Special Education." We have a Shane Litchell lookalike in season four, episode two, "Britney 2.0." I need a third one to complete that trifecta.

[41:57] Conor Burke: There's a Melissa Benoist, like Marley, it was in, she's got a lookalike?

[42:02] Kalle: She's in "How Will I Know," is that what you're talking about?

[42:05] Conor Burke: Yes.

[42:06] Kalle: Wait, what?

[42:07] Conor Burke: Yes.

[42:08] Kalle: I completely forgot. That's the third one. This was in round one that like after we watched "How Will I Know," Alison was like, did you guys see Melissa Benoist in that performance? And it's, when they walk into the library, there is a girl literally, she's wearing a Marley fit too. She's like, her back is to the camera and she's at the computer and it looks exactly like her.

[42:30] Conor Burke: Okay. I can't. My heart is full. The first thing that I'm doing is looking at myself after this episode.

[42:35] Kalle: It's so perfect. Yeah. That's a really deep cut. I'm so grateful that you remembered that, Kalle.

[42:41] Kalle: Yeah. I mean, I just read this in other episodes, so I guess it was somewhere here. Just for my own brain, was Miss Alison Dodge like the first person in the known universe to have noticed this or were there fans coming out of the Woodworks being like, oh my God, I thought it was Melissa?

[42:56] Conor Burke: In the known universe, I think it was Alison Dodge. But beyond that, there's no way of knowing.

[43:02] Kalle: Her mind.

[43:03] Conor Burke: Her mind.

[43:04] Kalle: Her mind. Also, on the topic of Alison Dodge, I do want to bring up that I did text her after "Four Minutes My Man" happened and what do you think that she voted for?

[43:15] Conor Burke: I'm guessing "Four Minutes."

[43:16] Kalle: I think "Four Minutes." I don't like it, but I'm guessing that.

[43:19] Conor Burke: She did vote for "Four Minutes."

[43:20] Kalle: Yeah. I wasn't expecting that, though. That's so rude.

[43:23] Conor Burke: Are you not? I was like, I think that she likes "My Man."

[43:26] Kalle: No, because you know what my metric is? Do you know how I work it out? I say to myself, what's the thing that I would vote for? And then I say, Alison is just going to vote the exact opposite.

[43:37] Conor Burke: The exact opposite.

[43:39] Kalle: Never let them know your next move.

[43:41] Conor Burke: Yeah. Mind of a mastermind. I believe I was in round two when "The Sun" was pulled.

[43:46] Kalle: With Abby.

[43:47] Conor Burke: Yeah. And what was it against? This was, I believe, Off the Top of the Dome, "Americano / Dance Again."

[43:52] Kalle: Interesting competition. Again, hey.

[43:54] Conor Burke: I would have voted for that one, to be honest.

[43:56] Kalle: Oh, really?

[43:57] Conor Burke: Yeah. I love the beginning of season four. It's so good.

[43:59] Kalle: Yeah. Wait, then, Kalle, I'm curious, then, like, where does "Dog Days" rank? Is it top 50? Is it top 30? Where is this song for you?

[44:05] Kalle: Top 50?

[44:06] Conor Burke: Top 50.

[44:07] Kalle: It's not high enough for me.

[44:09] Conor Burke: No. We can get it up.

[44:10] Kalle: I'm sorry.

[44:11] Conor Burke: We can get it up higher.

[44:12] Kalle: Nope. No, it's so iconic. I do need to bring up, like, yes, the Finchel cutaways scene, the Rachel at the locker. Cutaway. So, so incredibly iconic. I don't think that we talk about the Finchel cat calendar enough. The 2010 cat calendar, so incredible. And then, also, I just, like, really love how, like, sad and overdramatic her taking forever off of her life and then just throwing it away because she's given up on this relationship. And I just, like, it's so sad, but it's also so stupid. I just, I really love. And she, I did write here, thank you to Rachel Berry, because she reminded me to start work on my 2026 vision board. That is coming up, and we have to have that done soon.

[45:05] Conor Burke: We do. We do.

[45:06] Kalle: Thank you, Rachel. Rachel being, I know it's so obvious, but Rachel being thrown around the place is one of the funniest things ever.

[45:12] Conor Burke: It's perfect.

[45:13] Kalle: It's really, Leah is flying through the fucking air. Like, she is, she is, actors' equity were really stressed out that day about an injury. They got a really angry, a voicemail.

[45:23] Conor Burke: Really angry phone call.

[45:24] Kalle: It's just so funny how she still manages to end up at the front, right beside Rachel and right beside Mercedes and Tina. That's absolutely iconic. But yeah, favorite Tina fit, I've mentioned that already. Emma Pillsbury-Howell. How do we feel about, in general, about Carl the Dentist?

[45:39] Kalle: Oh.

[45:40] Conor Burke: He's hot.

[45:41] Kalle: Hot.

[45:42] Conor Burke: Smash.

[45:43] Kalle: You see, he doesn't, he doesn't do it for me at all.

[45:46] Conor Burke: What?

[45:47] Kalle: I mean, I can acknowledge that he's objectively attractive. He's just not, he's not for me, you know, and that's okay. I want to put a differentiation up between Carl, the character, and John Stamos.

[45:56] Conor Burke: But wait, why is...

[45:57] Kalle: Is John Stamos... I don't know anything about John Stamos. Is he considered to be cringe or problematic or something?

[46:03] Conor Burke: He just like, sometimes, like, will just be doing weird shit in a way that I'm like, I, the things that I hear about you, I'm not really liking.

[46:12] Kalle: Wait, say one.

[46:13] Conor Burke: He doesn't like little people. He's scared of little people.

[46:16] Kalle: That's one thing that Alison Dodge shared with me.

[46:19] Conor Burke: Alison Dodge shared with me that John Stamos doesn't like little people.

[46:23] Kalle: And I trust her, of course. Another thing is like, he like, performed at like, Mar-a-Lago, like, maybe like last year or something. But then I think he like, put out like, something after, I don't know where we actually stand on it. But I'm just like, I just, I like Carl, not John Stamos.

[46:39] Conor Burke: Yeah, okay. Yeah, but, but that's the thing for me, because I don't know John Stamos from anything else other than Glee.

[46:45] Kalle: Not a Full House?

[46:46] Conor Burke: No, John Stamos is one of those people who's a lot more famous in America than he is anywhere else in the world.

[46:52] Kalle: Yeah, yeah. Wait, but how about Ryan Murphy Universe, "Scream Queens"?

[46:56] Conor Burke: I only watched like, five episodes.

[46:58] Kalle: Okay.

[46:59] Conor Burke: I don't know. Well, and he's in season two, which is famously poop.

[47:03] Kalle: It's bad.

[47:04] Conor Burke: Yeah, exactly. Yeah. So I'm not gonna watch that one. Yeah. But Carl the Dentist is fun. I think he's a very, very, very fun character. I wish that he stuck around a little bit longer.

[47:14] Kalle: Me too.

[47:15] Conor Burke: Like, my favorite scene is when Sue Sylvester tells him that 70% of the teeth in McKinley are wooden.

[47:21] Kalle: That can't be true.

[47:22] Conor Burke: That can't be true. Also, not a Carl line. I guess that Carl lays up Holly Holiday, where he's like, thank you, doctor. And then Gwyneth Paltrow goes, not a doctor. It's just really, really great.

[47:34] Kalle: My lips are sealed. Just like your lips. I shouldn't have said that.

[47:39] Conor Burke: A real doctor wouldn't have said that. One thing I want to say, Tina Bridge in this song, the Tina Bridge, oh my gosh, the Bridge of Dreams. It really is like, I love this bridge, the Florence original version, of course. But I'm just like, I love that Jenna got to do this. I think it's just very, very sweet.

[47:57] Kalle: Me too.

[47:58] Conor Burke: Yeah. I think somehow, even though Jenna's voice is much different than Florence's, it really suits her, like the style, in a way.

[48:06] Kalle: Are we ready to see what "Dog Days Are Over" is against?

[48:09] Conor Burke: Yeah. But I'm scared.

[48:10] Kalle: I'm scared.

[48:11] Conor Burke: I'm scared too. Here we go.

[48:13] Kalle: Oh.

[48:14] Conor Burke: Oh.

[48:15] Kalle: Oh.

[48:16] Conor Burke: Oh.

[48:17] Kalle: Season one.

[48:18] Conor Burke: Oh.

[48:19] Kalle: Oh.

[48:20] Conor Burke: Oh.

[48:21] Kalle: I just think it's kind of a crier.

[48:23] Conor Burke: Wait, before we jump into this, are we all saying that, like, do we all think, just imagine you didn't see what song that was pulled there, are we all thinking that "Dog Days" would be safe?

[48:31] Kalle: Nope.

[48:32] Conor Burke: Oh, really?

[48:33] Kalle: Oh, just based on my reaction?

[48:35] Conor Burke: No, even before that, like, Kalle, are you saying that you wouldn't care about saying goodbye to this? Is that what you're saying?

[48:41] Kalle: Yeah, I mean, I didn't say goodbye to this.

[48:43] Conor Burke: Oh, okay. Now I'm nervous. This could go either way. This really interesting discussion incoming, I fear.

[48:50] Kalle: Okay. I knew it.

[48:51] Conor Burke: You knew it?

[48:52] Kalle: Yeah, because you said it's a bit of a crier, so.

[48:55] Conor Burke: Okay, it's, um, "I'll Stand By You."

[48:58] Kalle: What is going on, Finn?

[48:59] Conor Burke: Great question, Carol. What is going on? I can tell you what's going on with your outfit, Carol. You haven't been saved from your wardrobe yet.

[49:05] Kalle: Dracarys!

[49:06] Conor Burke: No, I love Carol's, like, early outfit. I think they're so endearing.

[49:09] Kalle: So fun.

[49:10] Conor Burke: The claws are out.

[49:12] Kalle: Carol, I'm after you. I got your number.

[49:15] Conor Burke: "I'll Stand By You." Ooh, this is a crazy competition. Kalle, what are you thinking?

[49:20] Kalle: For me, it's on the same level, I would say, but it doesn't really make me cry because the context is so stupid. Like, of course, I love the song. I love Corey. I love, like, his voice in this. I really love the, like, studio version. I listen to it a lot, but, like, when you see the actual video, it kind of, like, first you're a bit sad, and then you're like, oh, this is quite stupid, but it's fun. It's endearing.

[49:45] Conor Burke: Yeah, I think it does, like, balance that line of, like, being, like, entirely stupid that he's singing to ultrasound, but also, like, very, very sweet. And there's something so pure about this as well that is connecting. Conor, what are you thinking?

[50:01] Conor Burke: Yeah, you know, I think I've said on this podcast in the past that since becoming an adult and consuming Glee through that particular lens, that Finn is one of, has become one of my favorite characters. Totally. And I think that's, and I've definitely talked about this, I believe, but I think that that's because when I first consumed the content as a teenager, you were obviously so struck by the big, loud, almost cartoonish personalities of Rachel Pierce and Tana, like, these really over-the-top people. And even though Finn's character has elements of being really OTT, like, he's kind of a little bit more subdued in contrast. And so watching this performance, I made the note here. Firstly, Corey sounds great, called Surprise, but secondly, I wrote, like, Finn is almost a Shakespearean character, like, he's almost like a Macbeth or like a Hamlet, where he's like, he's got a fatal flaw that will be his, like, downfall in a way.

And I really hope that Ryan Murphy is not listening to this. This should go right to his head. Ryan Murphy, bitch, you listen. Not since Shakespeare have we seen a character like this. Listen, get onto my agent, bitch, and we can work something out, OK?

[51:19] Kalle: But what I mean by that is that he's, he is obviously a teenage boy that is a little bit ditzy, clumsy, confused. He is trying to find his place in the world. He really struggles with the concept of manhood and identity. We see that with his relationship with Kurt and with the bedroom partition of it all. We see it with him dealing with the grief of his dad. And then we see his own masculinity being questioned in regards to, like, even something as simple as why does everyone around me, my girlfriend included, Rachel, know exactly what they've always wanted to do? And I'm just floundering here like a lost puppy and I don't fucking know what I want to do with my life. Like, he's so interesting and confused.

And this is so heartbreaking because it's like, well, here he is now. He's he's he's stuck in this false universe of like, oh, my God, I'm about to become a dad. But obviously, as the audience, we know that it's not his. And it's so kind of like crazy. But what I will say, and I'm just going to say it, I do like this performance, but I'm like, I do wonder how much. Enjoyment is gained from this song. Purely off of the back of the death of Corey and Finn, like I'm like, do people remember it in a more fond way, purely because of the emotionality tied up to it in that regard? Because whilst it is a good like I do like like it as a follow. Yeah, it's not like particularly groundbreaking for me.

[52:49] Kalle: Oh, that's really interesting.

[52:50] Conor Burke: I haven't like really considered that before, that like maybe "I'll Stand By You" kind of gets bumped off a tier or two just because are you saying because it's sung again in "The Quarterback"? Because it's sung again in "The Quarterback," obviously the death of the character, the death of the actor, it is an emotional high point for the character in season one, regardless of that. But it's just kind of like I would imagine that for a lot of people subconsciously you are more emotionally affected by listening to it in 2025 because of things that happen. It would be the same like, you know, with "Landslide." Do you know what I mean?

[53:19] Kalle: Yeah, I get that. I mean, I'm not saying I'm not saying that it's in any way that that takes points off of it. It's just a question that I'm raising. But for me, at least like it doesn't really affect like that. Of course, the tone of the song is kind of somber. So in a way, yeah, sure. Because of "The Quarterback" and everything like that, it's a slight notch like higher, but not much because, again, the context and the way it's in the show, it's stupid. Good, stupid. But yeah, so if it was more like a genuine or really sad moment in the show, I think then it would affect it more because it's kind of like.

[53:56] Conor Burke: Yeah, that's such an interesting point, Kalle, because it's like when it first aired in season one, it was like, oh, my God, "I'll Stand By You." It's a sad song. It's an emotional song, but it's got this context of he's singing to a sonogram. So that's ridiculous. But then years go by. So you've got the sad song, emotional song, context of singing it to a sonogram. But then also the characters died and the actors died. So people are kind of very like, what am I supposed to say about this? Where do I place this?

[54:26] Kalle: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That is such an interesting point. But I mean, maybe exactly because of that, I really love listening to the studio version because I don't get the stupid. I only get the sad part. And also the studio version also has length to it as well. It's really short, egregiously cut down. And at this point, I'm familiar with where he goes in the episode version of where the cuts are made. But it's crazy.

[54:48] Conor Burke: Yeah.

[54:49] Kalle: Where does this rank in both of your follow listens?

[54:52] Conor Burke: I would say, without looking at a list, pretty low, pretty low, I would say.

[54:56] Kalle: Even though I like it, I like it. But Finn has so much good rock songs and it's more my taste rather than this.

[55:05] Conor Burke: What's number one for you, do you think?

[55:07] Kalle: "Jessie's Girl," I would say.

[55:09] Conor Burke: Yeah, I wasn't even thinking about that for some reason. The top three that came up for me, I know, that's the one I understand.

[1:00:30] Andrew: Of like him like singing alone in the shower there's something so endearing about it. There's something so like it just like really beautiful that he's just by himself and just like having this moment to himself love can't fight this feeling and then also spooky season just ended but she's not there I feel like we're not talking about her not talking about agreed.

[1:00:53] Kalle: That's a good show. I think ultimately mine is losing my religion. I think that's my favorite.

[1:00:59] Julianna: True and like I know like the context right in it is like kind of exhausting but like I do really love Cory on girls just want to have fun. I love that it's I know it's a it's a no no no he sounds good it sounds amazing I think he sounds beautiful.

[1:01:16] Kalle: It's way too low for his voice.

[1:01:23] Julianna: Way too low.

[1:01:24] Kalle: Oh really? I've never tried.

[1:01:26] Julianna: They tried something.

[1:01:29] Kalle: Yeah, yeah I never got that. I never got I never heard that in the like from a musical perspective but yeah um so yeah I don't know this song is is what what's the song's galactic history do you know Andrew off the top of your head?

[1:01:41] Andrew: Oh off the top of my head I know that was in the first episode of round two with myself, Allison, Lena, and um Ian. Let me see what that was against. I'll Stand By You won against um it was the first winner of round two, Nowadays, Hot Honey Rag. Um easy and let me see what it won against in round one that was oh I'm gonna hold your hand yikes that was hard I forgot about that.

[1:02:08] Kalle: I oh I yeah I think Kurt doesn't have that much good songs in the show but that that one I I think should have won.

[1:02:20] Julianna: Uh-huh what do you think Conor?

[1:02:26] Conor: Oh I would have voted for I Want to Hold Your Hand unfortunately.

[1:02:31] Kalle: Yeah that's crazy that we unfortunately.

[1:02:33] Julianna: Is it really?

[1:02:34] Kalle: I think that I Want to Hold Your Hand and just like not making it out of round one kind of insane to me now that.

[1:02:44] Julianna: Oh yeah oh that's absolutely insane.

[1:02:48] Kalle: I thought you were saying it's insane that I would vote for I Want to Hold Your Hand.

[1:02:51] Conor: Oh no no no no I think you're right.

[1:02:53] Julianna: And then how are how are Pholos faring at the moment?

[1:02:56] Kalle: If okay not looking at a list I do think that it might just be this and Jesse's Girl.

[1:03:03] Julianna: Oh now does that change your view on things Kalle when you hear that?

[1:03:09] Kalle: When you hear things like that?

[1:03:14] Julianna: Yeah.

[1:03:14] Kalle: Little things like that?

[1:03:16] Julianna: Yeah I mean like it's so weird because in a way it doesn't really matter like okay this this uh character has this many songs or solos going through because well if they're not good they're not good or you know but yeah because I Finn as a main character he has I would assume a lot of solos and he has only two left so that's really bad because you see unfortunately for me if I had a competition with him or solo versus a Rollo and I was just about to vote the Rollo through but then Andrew was like just to let you know there's only two more solos left that does affect my decision and I'm not saying that that's the right way to think I'm just saying.

[1:04:00] Julianna: No I don't think it's right at all.

[1:04:04] Kalle: No it's no I'm not saying it is I'm just saying that on an emotional level I think a lot of people are affected by that they're like they're like oh oh no really no we we need to do you know what I'm trying to say?

[1:04:14] Julianna: Totally I do understand. I mean I feel like it's happened on this podcast before.

[1:04:21] Kalle: Yeah but at the same time if it's like 50 50 then it kind of.

[1:04:28] Julianna: Yeah but if it's clearly a winner then of course.

[1:04:30] Kalle: But there's no clear winner for you Kalle?

[1:04:36] Kalle: No okay I do have my vote I have my vote.

[1:04:36] Julianna: So how do you want to start this?

[1:04:42] Kalle: For the most interesting theatrical and dramatic I know I I'm always thinking about theatrical first I'll go forget about me I'm always going to be thinking about the theatrics.

[1:04:47] Julianna: Yeah I'm gonna vote for I don't think to anybody's surprise Dog Days Are Over.

[1:04:54] Kalle: No one look around I can go next no one's surprised.

[1:04:59] Conor: Okay I think I know where this is going.

[1:05:00] Julianna: Where what are you saying?

[1:05:01] Kalle: I'm saying I'll Stand By You.

[1:05:10] Conor: Hey theatrics Conor.

[1:05:10] Kalle: I'm gonna go with Dog Days Are Over.

[1:05:14] Julianna: Called surprise.

[1:05:15] Conor: Called surprise the theory that Andrew and I have the same opinions about everything.

[1:05:20] Kalle: No this day I hate it I just feel like we wasted an hour of Kalle's time do you?

[1:05:30] Julianna: No no no no I didn't even attempt to like rip off the bond I'd like that was just I'm just gonna vote for him.

[1:05:36] Kalle: No no I mean this was super fun so no no wait how are you feeling what led you to I'll Stand By You as a vote?

[1:05:42] Julianna: To be honest like Dog Days Are Over I love the song but I love the original so much that the Glee version it doesn't really go that high and for example for I'll Stand By You I don't even know the original so I only know the Glee version and I love it so maybe that affected my vote.

[1:06:02] Kalle: Wait so are you going to be laughing as a character are you going to be voting I'll Stand By You back in and the Patreon vote open?

[1:06:06] Julianna: Yeah what are you doing?

[1:06:08] Conor: No no he's like bitch I'm not that loyal.

[1:06:12] Julianna: Of course yeah exactly I need to stand by my man.

[1:06:24] Kalle: Yeah yeah exactly oh you're dead bye okay I got a new man my man.

[1:06:33] Julianna: Do you think people are going to be because Becca and the child is already saying no Stand By You can't be gone with three crying face emojis at the end three crying faces yeah we know that she means business do you think that that's going to be a point of contention what are we feeling?

[1:06:42] Kalle: I hope not because I think that I hope that people understand that that Dog Days Are Over that's family.

[1:06:55] Julianna: Dog Days Are Over is what most people love about Glee right? It's just like and it's like a good ending of an episode number like I don't know while I was like watching it was like what's the sauce that Dog Days Are Over has that like I'll Stand By You doesn't because virtually same song same kind of font right but you know what I'm talking about?

[1:07:14] Kalle: Yes on our way the song with America around yeah yes no but I'm just reading biggest comment like I'd vote for Stand By You over my man I'm sorry so and Becca Tobin means business exactly yeah we know that.

[1:07:29] Julianna: Me and Becca Tobin share a birthday happy birthday queen is that true?

[1:07:36] Kalle: See you at the next one.

[1:07:36] Julianna: Yes you know who I share a birthday with?

[1:07:41] Kalle: Is that true?

[1:07:41] Julianna: No I just lied about that particular fact for no reason.

[1:07:48] Kalle: Yeah why would you lie about that?

[1:07:48] Julianna: Hey guys Becca Tobin and I share a birthday um yeah it's like really that that will get you somewhere out of all the great cast members Becca Tobin.

[1:08:07] Kalle: You know who I share a birthday with is Ashley Fink and I asked like like maybe like close to a year ago I was like Elias like I want you to for my birthday for my 30th birthday I just need a cat that's all I need a cameo from I can't and I he said that she sent it he said it's about three minutes long my birthday is November 20th and I've yet to see it but I'm very very excited.

[1:08:32] Julianna: I am so excited to see that not to make this all about me but how fucking funny was it yesterday while stories watching Glee last night I was just scrolling through my phone and I came by the cameo that she made for me I completely forgot she even sent me one.

[1:08:50] Kalle: Julianna do you have a cameo from Ashley Fink?

[1:08:57] Julianna: No no and just just to point it out get one just to point out maybe you can share it on the carousel I I can't even find I can't even find the full thing I had cut I had edited down so there's like a 10 second clip of her going like this hey Conor and then she places the Lauren's Icys glasses on and she just goes you just get sass she's so so incredibly iconic so country to me personally I love you Ashley.

[1:09:27] Kalle: Ashley wait who do you share a birthday with?

[1:09:32] Julianna: Kalle.

[1:09:32] Kalle: Me?

[1:09:33] Julianna: Ah I was just checking we sounded like we were a guy you know but yeah who do you share a birthday with Kalle?

[1:09:38] Kalle: No no I was gonna look like is there anybody in Glee cast who has my birthday but no unfortunately not no maybe in the Glee I've never checked away.

[1:09:50] Julianna: Ashley Fink and Becca Tobin are over here just like oh that's unfortunate.

[1:09:56] Kalle: Um Kalle this has been nothing short of iconic I'm sorry that you didn't get your way um but hey maybe next time when you this is the beginning of your your revenge plot yes definitely.

[1:10:06] Julianna: Yeah Kalle it was so lovely meeting you so lovely to meet you bye see you next time.

[1:10:13] Kalle: Bye bye.

[1:10:21] Andrew: Are you ready to bring in our next Gleek?

[1:10:21] Julianna: I am so see what I mean just before we bring in Julianna do you see what I mean what is what I was referencing at the top of the episode that these competitions are getting harder now that competition wasn't hard for me but what I'm saying is is that the song choices.

[1:10:31] Andrew: Yeah you're like oh oh do you know what I mean?

[1:10:40] Julianna: Yeah no it's you've really rocked my world in a way with um your thoughts about I'll Stand By You that I think that that's like wait sorry in a sarcastic way no no you actually genuinely that it's like um that it like kind of like has this weight added to it like after the meal has already been served it's like served because it's like the only song in the show that does that because it's like even with the passing of Naya's well Santana is still alive yeah canonically do you know what I mean so yeah that's a whole added added layer.

[1:11:19] Andrew: Hey um Julianna we're ready for you.

[1:11:24] Julianna: How do you feel about Dog Days Are Over versus I'll Stand By You?

[1:11:29] Julianna: I feel like the correct decision was made was it even remotely hard for you?

[1:11:35] Julianna: No.

[1:11:36] Andrew: Oh okay I was uh surprised to see upset people in the chat sorry Becca um sorry sorry Becca and I also I looked up what it went against and I was upset that it lost a Hot Honey Rag and you guys were just like oh yeah well duh of course it beat that.

[1:11:51] Julianna: Wait a minute you're grieving Hot Honey Rag like that?

[1:11:57] Andrew: I I also love Hot Honey Rag what what's this agenda against Hot Honey Rag?

[1:12:03] Julianna: I just watched a substitute last night because I'm in that era of season two and I'm like this is I'm dying to claim with this it's yeah it's fun but like why is it like I think to me Hot Honey Rag is when you're looking at the entire there's hardly any singing it's it's all dancing when you it's like kind of like insulting to me that they put put it on iTunes is that my opinion?

[1:12:27] Andrew: That is crazy to say but like that's the fun of this podcast is that it's the performance in the show and I think it's like a performance.

[1:12:34] Julianna: I do take your point though that's why I don't that's why I don't gravitate towards a lot of prom songs because there's always fucking dialogue in the middle of it that I'm like oh even if I love the mp3 it's like the mp4 of it all quite often I'm just like I'm really not interested in watching this.

[1:13:00] Julianna: Julianna do you like when they talk during the songs?

[1:13:06] Julianna: Um I think like a line or two I know people love not gonna teach your boyfriend and I think that one's fun but it's like half maybe more of it is like overcut with dialogue that I'm like oh okay I get that I get that.

[1:13:14] Andrew: Um black at grievances what are you bringing to the table what are you upset about?

[1:13:22] Julianna: Um I am like eight episodes behind I earlier this morning earlier this morning I was listening to the Ian live stream episode and you guys were talking about the Emmys so that's like where I am chronologically.

[1:13:32] Andrew: Wait so you you are just finding out in this live stream about My Man?

[1:13:37] Julianna: Yeah I did I yeah I felt I felt like just found out yeah exactly you're telling me about this for the first time right now uh live on the ground.

[1:13:45] Andrew: Um so how do you how do you feel?

[1:13:53] Julianna: I mean I was a little bit in and out of the uh the live stream um but I did hear Kalle say like the way that you talked about four minutes it was like oh I didn't know we all went that hard for this like so I am a little surprised but I mean it's a good song but it's a good song that it lost you I would have voted for My Man.

[1:14:13] Andrew: I understand that I understand that like sacrifice.

[1:14:20] Julianna: Wait are people surprised at how hard people are rising for four minutes is that what you're saying?

[1:14:27] Julianna: I mean I feel like My Man there's like a version of the there's like a world in which that wins the Glock at four minutes I can see going really far.

[1:14:35] Andrew: I don't I don't every time you say something like this you're like nobody loves Don't Sleep in the Subway and then like eight people come on in the next live stream and they're like actually I love Don't Sleep in the Subway as well.

[1:14:45] Julianna: Oh I love you wait you probably don't you brought up Don't Sleep in the Subway are you a Don't Sleep in the Subway stan?

[1:14:56] Andrew: No I mean it's oh the way I love her are you serious because you like Glitter in the Air a lot so I know it's so why do I get more attacked for liking Glitter in the Air than Andrew does for liking Ben?

[1:15:16] Julianna: I think both of those are bad but Glitter in the Air specifically when I heard that on Glee like when I heard Glitter in the Air on Glee I thought it was an original song like parentheses derogatory because the lyrics are so bad.

[1:15:28] Andrew: Yeah no I'm with you I totally hear what you're saying parentheses are heavy yes yeah okay at least sometimes so I'm just looking at the chat here and Dot says at least Ben is camp sometimes we get we let camp get away with absolute murder though and we have to start putting our foot down that's my opinion Glitter in the Air over Ben thank you Sammy my like problematic fave which I feel like is kind of I've heard a few people say is I don't think The Rain in Spain is that bad I thought it was funny like I remember that was like when I watched Glee with my parents and we were all like oh that's the song from like what's the musical it's from My Fair Lady yeah yeah okay I got this one obviously everyone step back and we were like you you liked it?

[1:16:19] Julianna: Yeah I thought it was funny like I'm we're in round three I don't care that it's gone from the block it but like I think it's funny and that's like that's Conor's Glitter in the Air.

[1:16:29] Andrew: I just okay I understand not liking Glitter in the Air but the biggest shock from from me when it comes to my takes about Glee songs is I people are so like so against Glitter in the Air they're like this is one of the worst songs on Glee and I'm like what?

[1:16:50] Julianna: I think it's like one of the worst like like no like let me finish it's like one of the worst songs in general like that they cover like the original is one the original Glitter in the Air is one of the worst like original of all the songs does that make sense just like Lea Michele just like really had a moment at the Grammys one year where she saw Pink perform it live and she was like I gotta Rollo this.

[1:17:07] Andrew: Yeah yeah because the context in the episode is very very weak when she's turned when she's like yeah I just I just want you to hear my essence and then she sings Glitter in the Air and Kristen Schaal is like oh I get it.

[1:17:26] Julianna: Oh I think I get it now but is is it Rachel Berry's essence? I mean the writers continuously prove that they don't know what Rachel Berry's essence is song of the summer Call Me Maybe song of the summer Call Me Maybe that exhibit A yes hmm anyway I did not mean to talk Glitter in the Air whatever clear the air go Julianna you opened up this can of worms kicked around like someone mentions Glitter in the Air and people start coming out attacking it physically and it's annoying I have like a whole not you Julianna but other people I mean it's fine I have like a whole list of songs and none of them are Glitter in the Air I don't know why I mentioned that I'm sorry.

[1:18:19] Andrew: Oh my god I actually don't know why I did that.

[1:18:24] Julianna: Mistake number one mentioning Glitter in the Air around Conor yeah let this be a lesson.

[1:18:30] Andrew: Um Julianna what else do you have on your list here?

[1:18:36] Julianna: I have like I feel like round three I've mainly agreed with a lot or like I understand I did one of the most recent ones that I've listened to was the Claudia and Ian episode where I didn't agree with either of those takes it was More Than Words versus Be Okay and just neither of those songs are great but I was just like I just want Shooting Star out of here personally.

[1:19:01] Julianna: You just want it out?

[1:19:02] Julianna: Yeah I don't I also another thing Be Okay I don't get the hate for that either I feel like someone on this podcast a couple of weeks ago I forget who it was perhaps it was Paddy said that there sometimes what happens on this podcast is the song is mentioned and then it just seems that everyone jumps on the bandwagon of the one specific narrative around it and I think that Be Okay is one of those songs I'm not saying it's the best song ever done on Glee no but I'm just saying like I don't get the hatred I remember like Matt said it was the gayest song on Glee and I was just like are we just saying stuff?

[1:19:25] Andrew: I feel like that can't be true.

[1:19:27] Julianna: Wait that's wild wait who's the one who has the podcast with him on is that Matt?

[1:19:33] Andrew: That's Matt.

[1:19:34] Julianna: Okay okay Matt I know you that's Matt of course Matt okay I'm speaking directly to you right now when you're listening to this episode please message me and let me know have you said this I don't think that Julianna's lying but I I think that that's an absurd thing that you may have said um but I think that Julianna and Conor you make a really good good point about like okay people are like talking about Be Okay a little maybe too much but I think that Dot Marie Jones in the chat is saying you know making a very valid point that Be Okay killed Loser Like Me season two so it's like we need it it's a hex that we need to almost like place on this song good point Dot yeah Dot Marie Jones incapable of not making a great point um what are you thinking what else is on your list there Julianna?

[1:20:26] Julianna: Uh there's just like a few songs that I just don't understand like I okay I feel like I've started so many fights already I'm like scared to say this next one no this is perfect but okay I don't understand I know you said that it like won one of your Glockens but like Love Song is I don't understand no maybe it'll really elaborate I just it was one of those songs where just like I started listening to this podcast I was like oh I didn't realize people went this hard for it I think it's nice but like I don't know I hope it doesn't get pulled because I don't want to kill it and I don't want to take that away from someone else but you you I think you have a direct line to Glod and I think that you have already manifested it so I think it's already going to happen.

[1:21:17] Andrew: Yeah get the hell off my grandmother's dreamscape get the hell off my grandmother's dreamscape so iconic them singing Love Song to her when they're like don't be naked don't be naked Rachel so perfect yeah don't be naked Rachel don't be naked please every time I've had that conversation with my friends we do put on Love Song so it always results in Love Song.

[1:21:41] Julianna: Yeah um okay I'm scared for Love Song yeah Love Song New York State of Mind is another one where I'm just like okay oh like my favorite all my season four songs that I like have been eliminated like I love Tell Em and I know that was like a really spooky scary competition I wish it came back I don't know what came back instead but that was so fun and okay one actual competition I have a big grievance with is the Diamonds Are Forever mashup versus Hell to the No yeah I think we can leave the original songs like in rap in round three like they're fun enough that like they've made it but I don't think we need any of them in round four personally any of them and we're I I think the only one that's coming to mind right now that's left in the cup is I think Trouty Mouth I think like Trouty Mouth was against We Are Young in round one and I'm like you know if what was it not that's culture what an insane competition also it's important to add as well in the Nikki Blonsky episode yes yes and honestly I'm just like that was sad but I feel like we honestly could have let it that's like a pretty valiant death it's like against We Are Young and we can just let it be.

[1:23:11] Julianna: Yeah but it's still around.

[1:23:12] Andrew: Yep yeah and here we are.

[1:23:20] Julianna: Um what else do you have?

[1:23:20] Julianna: Um I missed like some round one ones that I'm still mad about are like Dream a Little Dream I know it's been like said that's like legitimately one of my favorite Glee songs I think that's Kevin McHale's best vocals I think he sounds so good on that really really good it's very upsetting.

[1:23:36] Andrew: Yeah I miss it Dream a Little Dream was taken up I'd lose my breath if I'm not mistaken.

[1:23:43] Julianna: Yeah that's insane and that's only only that can happen on this Glocket only that could happen.

[1:23:51] Andrew: Oh wow that's crazy.

[1:23:51] Julianna: Um all right so what are we manifesting today Julianna?

[1:23:59] Julianna: I have like a whole list of ones I I'm ready even before like you pulled Dog Days Are Over I'm really you want to shake it out I've been thinking about that song a lot and I think it's so good in general what I want for a competition I know a lot of people are like I want like two heavy hitters I would love like a flop versus a banger I would love that.

[1:24:16] Andrew: Yeah in my opinion is there anything is there anything that you're like okay do you know what guys fair enough you've made it to round three it's time to pack your bags now like it's like what are the songs that you're like I I would be glad to get rid of?

[1:24:30] Julianna: Um I think the only one that I remember seeing on a playlist I know like yeah is Around yeah that's actually not as much as I love I'm like I got it really far honestly that's not even like an answer to your question I don't know how that's still here personally like and I'll have a like Crush I'm thinking Mercy yeah yeah Crush is one that I'm like Crush is being here is so legendary to me so perfect oh my god yeah yeah.

[1:25:11] Andrew: Um so are we ready to pull the the first song of this competition?

[1:25:18] Julianna: Yes yeah thank you for letting me yeah for that long oh my gosh it was perfect.

[1:25:29] Andrew: Oh fun song is it fun we are young no it's not by fun um but it's season four let's have a kiki not let's have a kiki season four episode should I tell you the episode?

[1:25:35] Julianna: Yeah episode two is that the oh is it three it is indeed three I saw that on the remaining songs playlist oh this is a this is a good one perfect perfect Julianna start the discourse if you will.

[1:25:59] Julianna: This is that was fun it's like I feel like there's a few songs like this that are just like they grab like the girlies off the street and are just like harmonized there's like the other two yeah I brought up or like uh Shake It Out and How Will I Know like yeah and it's always nice.

[1:26:18] Andrew: Yeah I mean all three of those are like really like special arrangements as well that like they like I can almost like picture the music team almost like campaigning for this like three that they're like oh like hey like if we're doing another Britney Spears tribute episode like I have this like really fun idea for three because it doesn't like really add anything to story of course um other than just like fulfilling the assignment of doing Britney Spears songs uh but like I just like I think it's like very very fun and inspired and uh I really just love it I don't know if I've met people that don't like this Conor how do you feel about it?

[1:27:00] Conor: I don't think I've met people that don't like this but I think I've met people that don't know this yeah and so just off the back of your point Andrew do you think that people don't know this or don't think about her enough because it doesn't add to the story but then I'm thinking wait there are other Glee songs that don't add anything to the plot that are still really revered.

[1:27:21] Andrew: But I actually have written well I don't know like How Will I Know for example sure yeah I mean okay in relation to plot it's at the very start of the episode they're mourning Whitney that's literally all it is yeah and so like even even I other than that I can't even see another pre-video other than the the audio track of it um it's just very odd I feel like yeah I'm like what what did she do to everyone to offend them so much but I feel like to the like run of the mill Glee watcher not even Gleek it's like what song post season three like do they even remember I think that like yeah it would be like almost like a fun thing for like non-Gleeks you know like I think that like I could I could see like a non-Gleek getting into this but why are how is this not reached non-Gleeks you know what we need to we need to start the campaign.

[1:29:17] Julianna: Yeah but it hasn't even reached many Gleeks so that's what I'm saying.

[1:29:23] Andrew: Yeah I feel like it's maybe it's because it's in sorry go ahead.

[1:29:29] Julianna: Oh I was just gonna say it has like the vibe of like it comes up on shuffle and you're like oh I forgot about this but this is nice and then you never like put it on.

[1:29:33] Andrew: I will say it and I think I brought this up in round two when we pulled this song that I think that three beautiful harmonies I love the fact you know what what you're you're saying about like you know the fact that we're seeing this pairing of the characters that we never see again we know we have not seen before but like I think that the thing that will take this song down is.

[1:30:00] Andrew: The controversial Britney 2.0 episode within itself. The fact that baked into this song is Britney getting up and going over to shave her head. And not a great look. Britney Spears did tweet, "Fuck Gleek," after the airing of this episode. So, I don't know.

[1:30:23] Conor: Which is super, I will say, it does yield a really funny reaction shot for me, though. When Britney is getting ready, and she's obviously having a breakdown, and all the Gleek Club are clapping along, and a cut's too unique, and she looks really confused. She's like... She's still clapping, but she's like, "Oh, what's going on over there?"

[1:30:45] Andrew: Alex Neil Jen. I do want to say it's my favorite, this is my favorite hair on Sam. Just as a side note, it's my favorite Sam hair.

[1:30:54] Conor: It's not Sam Yole Larson.

[1:30:56] Andrew: Correct, Sam Evans. I just really want to clarify that, really want to bring that point home. Jenna looks great. I love Tina's face. The intensity of that.

[1:31:14] Conor: Reading your notes back. I don't know what that means. Come back to me. Keep yapping.

[1:31:19] Andrew: I was thinking about Damian McGinty while watching this performance.

[1:31:25] Conor: As one would.

[1:31:28] Andrew: As one would, while watching 3GleeCastVersion by GleeCast, because I'm thinking, okay, so Britney 2.0 is a really fun episode to me, because every single New Directions member that's in the episode gets to be on a song. So, what we know about Damian McGinty's exit from Glee is that he was supposed to be in season four, which then presents the question we're playing by the rules of every single Glee Club member is singing in this episode. Damian McGinty was supposed to be there. What Britney Spears song was Damian McGinty supposed to sing in this episode? And I have a head in it.

[1:32:11] Conor: Lucky.

[1:32:12] Andrew: Lucky. There we go. I mean, it's written in the story. It's Lucky Charms.

[1:32:16] Conor: Lucky Charms. Thank you.

[1:32:18] Andrew: Mm hmm. I think he would eat it up, quite frankly. No pun intended. And AI exists for a reason. That's all I'm saying. For one reason, Damian McGinty singing "Lucky" by Britney Spears. It is kind of egregious, genuinely, that they didn't cover "Lucky." "Lucky" is a great song. It's like, actually, it's gross to me that they didn't even touch it.

[1:32:42] Conor: I'm like...

[1:32:43] Andrew: And the thing about "Lucky" is that it's genuinely so rich thematically that they could have had many singers, many characters sing that song. They could have done like a "There Are Worse Things I Could Do."

[1:32:53] Conor: Yeah.

[1:32:53] Andrew: Job with us. Oh, you know. Amazing. Yeah. There's just, there's so much there and they were just like, "Oh, we're not even going to tap into it. Never mind."

[1:33:05] Conor: Anyway, anything else that we need to say about three before we see what it's against?

[1:33:10] Andrew: I just want to know Dodd's message in the chat about like why it's not hitting and she said gate threeping.

[1:33:16] Conor: Gate threeping. I was like having trouble reading that message. Thank you so much. Yes. It would be almost poetic should, not to jump ahead, obviously, it would be almost poetic should it die in round three for obvious reasons.

[1:33:36] Andrew: For obvious reasons. If you don't know, then you just don't know.

[1:33:40] Conor: It's the number three. Yeah. It's the number three.

[1:33:44] Andrew: Thank you for really painting a full picture here.

[1:33:47] Conor: You're welcome.

[1:33:49] Andrew: Okay. Last song of the episode. Here we go. Oh, oh, we're going out with a bang. We're going back to season one.

[1:33:57] Conor: Okay.

[1:33:58] Andrew: I was so scared it was going to be "New York State of Mind" and I was going to get canceled by the Gleeks. I was so scared reading the chat. "New York State of Mind" recently went through. That might have been an episode that you missed.

[1:34:09] Conor: Oh, yeah. Sorry.

[1:34:10] Andrew: It's in round four. I know this isn't good news for you, but whatever. Oh, my God. This was in my manifest list.

[1:34:18] Conor: We go. "Rose's Turn." Okay, he's slain.

[1:34:24] Andrew: Okay. How do we even talk about that? I feel like season one especially was like just so was like really a lot better at using songs that made sense in context. And I feel like, I mean, obviously, it's not like word for word, but I feel like the big emotionality and like feeling of this song fit just so well in the plot line.

[1:34:53] Conor: Yeah, I love the integration of Miss Rachel Berry. And it just you, you know, when they were like, I don't know what room they would even the writer's room, the music team, that room. But just, you know, that when they discovered that, they were like, we have the same we have the same syllables. We have the same amount of syllables here. It works. And it was implemented. And I'm very thankful.

[1:35:23] Andrew: Eduardo was just a hater in the chat. Wow.

[1:35:26] Conor: Yeah, Eduardo is saying that was just a bunch of noise in my ear. But I'm a notorious Kurt hater. We already have his number. So it's we're ignoring that, Eduardo. Connor, what do you have to say about this?

[1:35:38] Conor: Oh my god. "Rose's Turn." What I'm confused about is, is the Kurt sign there or not?

[1:35:49] Andrew: The Kurt sign's not there.

[1:35:50] Conor: Yeah.

[1:35:52] Andrew: I don't think the Kurt sign's not there.

[1:35:53] Conor: Wait, what were you gonna say, Juliana?

[1:35:55] Julianna: I was gonna agree. Yeah.

[1:35:57] Conor: Okay, that's what I was gonna say. But it's kind of like, because that would make sense. Because when you've got a song that's like, non-diegetic, but then isn't it technically diegetic as well?

[1:36:09] Andrew: It is diegetic because, yeah.

[1:36:11] Conor: He's rehearsing in the auditorium.

[1:36:14] Andrew: And then Kurt's like, "Oh, I'm fine." And then Bert is like, "Fine doesn't sing like you just did" or something like that.

[1:36:21] Conor: Yeah, because there's never a shot after during that scene where you see like the Kurt sign in the back.

[1:36:27] Andrew: Oh, it just disappears. Do you know what I mean with the bulbs off? Yeah, it's not there. Like, it would be like, you know, like, I don't know, I'm trying to think of another song, like "Firework," for example. So that's diegetic because she's singing it in the Glee Club. But it's also non-diegetic because there's the whole sequence of her walking down the hallway with the sparklers in the back.

[1:36:47] Conor: She does a lot during "Firework." She takes "Firework" everywhere.

[1:36:51] Andrew: She is getting around. She is getting around. But yeah, no, I thought that did cross my mind. So okay, so it's non-diegetic. Okay. Remember that.

[1:37:02] Conor: Does that also mean, like, we don't see a band? So was he just like yelling that a cappella in the theatre and then his dad walked in?

[1:37:10] Andrew: I don't think so. I mean, that's actually not outside of the realm of possibility for theatre kids. And I think that's actually kind of like more powerful to like not be accompanied by a band.

[1:37:24] Conor: Or it's just like, "Hey, I really just want to get this out. I have no time to coordinate for a band to provide instrumental. I just got to do this a cappella."

[1:37:35] Andrew: Yeah, like that sign has always struck me. It's absolutely iconic. But that question's always been in my mind. So it's great to have some clarification on that. I thank you both so much for your service. What can I say about the song that's not already been said? Probably by me too. This was, did you see this on TV in 2010?

[1:37:58] Conor: Oh, yeah.

[1:37:58] Andrew: Like, if you weren't there, you just simply, if you were not a gay teenager in 2010 watching this as it aired, you just don't know what it was like.

[1:38:06] Conor: You just don't get anything, quite frankly. You just see Juliana log off.

[1:38:15] Julianna: But Juliana, you get it, though. It speaks to non-gay teenagers.

[1:38:19] Conor: And I think, sorry, not to take over your, but the relationship with Bert, I think, it's obviously a lot of people's favorite part of the show. And I think there's obviously later where he's just very accepting. And he talks about when he's a congressman for two episodes, and he's like, "I'm going to make gay marriage legal." But I think the more nuanced thing, which is like, Bert loves Kurt, but he's just like, I think he even says in this episode, like, "I imagined, like, when I had a son, I obviously didn't imagine this. I imagined it would be different." And like, kind of just how they have like a misunderstanding, but just like that they just like speak different languages, but they like love each other so much.

[1:39:11] Andrew: Yeah, 100%. And I love the way that, again, I'm re-watching Gay at the Moment, the most recent episode we watched was "Sexy." And obviously the Kurt and Bert, like, conversation around like, "Next time Blaine sleeps over, you need to tell me that." And then, like, I love how the show did a really good job when it comes to their relationship. And they never framed either character as being in the right. They simply presented both sides. And you could look at it and be like, "Oh, I see where Kurt's coming from." But also I can see where Bert is coming from.

[1:39:49] Conor: Yeah, totally.

[1:39:50] Andrew: Do you know what I mean?

[1:39:51] Conor: Yeah, I love that. It's like, so, and I think that that's why, like, people really were taken by the relationship in Bert as a character, that it was like, it wasn't, it was very grey. That was like, it wasn't-

[1:40:03] Andrew: 100%. Because they never really made Kurt a martyr, which I think is why it works. They never really made Kurt a martyr. Like, even how Kurt acted towards Sam in "Duets" was like, most people's metric, very inappropriate and kind of uncomfortable in a way.

[1:40:23] Conor: Yeah.

[1:40:23] Andrew: But then it was written in a way where you kind of almost had sympathy for that character because it was like, well, of course he would feel that as a gay teenager when he doesn't know any other gay teenagers, and he's bullied every day for being gay. Do you know what I mean?

[1:40:35] Conor: Yeah. And I think that the Bert and how he comes into it is just like, so refreshing because it's not like telling the audience that like, just because he has this gay son, like he automatically understands everything. And also it's not like he's like, it is grey, again. But like, yeah, it's just, it's so refreshing that like, we're continuously like meeting both characters, Kurt and Bert, where they are, and they aren't like, miles ahead of each other, because they're only right now in their timeline, if that makes sense.

[1:41:16] Andrew: 100%. And I'm interested to know what you guys think about like, what is it that makes this work so much? Because there's some absolutely amazing solo performances on the show throughout the entire six seasons. Obviously, we all know that. But it's like, the emotional arc of this one in particular is so resonant, for some reason. Is it because the storyline was built up for like, for a longer period of time? Has it got to do with the writing of Kurt and Bert's characters? Like, because this is still only season one, obviously. And it's like, it is difficult to, to try to figure out what a more emotionally impactful solo is for the rest of the series, in terms of like, meeting the character where it's at.

Do you know what I mean? Like, there might, you might have more, you might have more preferable solos, there might be other solos that you way prefer to this. But in terms of like, the character arc, like, what are other ones that come after this that are more, that are as strong? For Kurt? For anyone?

[1:42:18] Conor: Oh, yeah, that's, because this song kind of like, checks all the boxes. It's like,

[1:42:21] Andrew: Yeah, like, maybe "Cough Syrup," but that's being sung by Blaine about, yeah, exactly.

[1:42:28] Conor: Right.

[1:42:30] Andrew: And I'm not saying that there isn't, by the way, I'm just genuinely curious to know if, if there are others.

[1:42:35] Conor: I feel like they're like, triumphant. I don't know if that's the right word, songs, but like, like, "We Are Young." I feel like even though it's not like, perfectly applicable, because the song is just like, so, like, I don't know, like, kind of just about like, being with your friends when you're young. And that's in like, "Hold On to 16."

[1:42:59] Andrew: Yeah, I feel like even like "Dancing Queen," where like, there's all the drama in that prom episode. And then they sing a song that's like, "Let's just dance and have fun." And then there's like the collage, not collage, what's it called? Montage of like, everybody like getting their picture taken and like having fun.

[1:43:12] Conor: I think that like, for like, Santana, they like tried to like, have like, if I had to guess, they tried to have like a "Rose's Turn" sort of thing with "Girl on Fire." That like, this is like, that was her like, kind of siren song, you know?

[1:43:28] Andrew: I feel like though, like, when Glee though, did songs that were just like, top 40. It just, you can't separate that from like, "Oh, they want another 129 on iTunes." Like,

[1:43:42] Conor: Yeah.

[1:43:42] Andrew: Yeah. No, I'm totally with you that I don't think that "Girl on Fire" is like, nearly as like, kind of heavy as "Rose's Turn" is for and because of that reason. Part of it. Yeah.

[1:43:53] Conor: Yeah. It's just like "Rose's Turn" was such a come to Jesus moment for that character. Like, oh my God, all the shit that I've been through so far. Like, here's me letting out my internal rage, blah, blah, blah, blah. My dad is bonding with my now new brother, essentially. Like, and I'm just trying to think of like, like, when I think of maybe "It's All Coming Back to Me Now," I'm like, okay, that could maybe be a contender. But it's also like, that's in the context of a competition. And it's like, yeah, I don't know.

[1:44:21] Andrew: Yeah. Because it's not even like Rachel's "Drop." Like, I don't think I guess. Exactly.

[1:44:23] Conor: What's another like, because this song just like in general is kind of like a crash out song, as the kids would say, like, are there any other like, songs like that on Glee?

[1:44:34] Andrew: There probably is. I can't think of them though.

[1:44:36] Conor: Like, you keep me hanging on a little bit. Like, she's, she is crashing out a little bit.

[1:44:40] Andrew: Yeah. Scream for that, like, plotline that matters for five minutes.

[1:44:45] Conor: That's interesting. I'm curious.

[1:44:47] Andrew: So I suppose my point is, is that by that metric alone, just purely by that metric, surely it has to be the best solo on Glee. Solo period, not like-

[1:45:00] Conor: Eduardo's gonna go crazy.

[1:45:01] Andrew: No, but just, just by that metric that we've just discussed, though.

[1:45:06] Conor: Well, I, can you-

[1:45:08] Andrew: Do you know what I mean?

[1:45:09] Conor: But you can just like, invent whatever metric and be like-

[1:45:11] Andrew: Yeah. This metric that we just invented by this metric.

[1:45:16] Conor: No, but I did invent it though. Like, yeah, I did invent it. It's like, like so specific to where that character is. And like, that's what, that's what musicals should be. That they, what they're singing is expressing their inner turmoil, but it also draws the story on. Like, I'm trying, that's what I'm saying. Like, genuinely, I'm trying to think of another solo that, that, that does that as well as "Rose's Turn."

[1:45:41] Conor: I'm always afraid that like, when these sort of questions are posed, especially in a recorded format, because then people are going to be like, "Why did they not say X, Y, or Z? Are they, are they, what is wrong with them? Why did they not say 'Glitter in the Air'?"

[1:45:55] Andrew: Why did they not say-

[1:45:57] Conor: Oh my God. That's literally what "Glitter in the Air" like, kind of sought to do.

[1:46:04] Andrew: We've cracked the code.

[1:46:06] Conor: We've cracked the code.

[1:46:08] Andrew: They were, "Glitter in the Air" was like, ooh, yeah, they needed "Rose's Turn."

[1:46:13] Conor: Eduardo said in the chat, "I need to borrow y'all's ears and figure out what you guys are hearing."

[1:46:17] Andrew: No, but I don't, I'm not even talking about it from a musical standpoint. You might hate the cover. Maybe you don't like Kirsch. Maybe you don't like Chris's voice. I'm just talking about purely from a character perspective.

[1:46:28] Conor: Yeah.

[1:46:29] Andrew: I'm struggling, on a story perspective, I'm struggling to think of another solo.

[1:46:34] Conor: Eduardo, I mean this in like full sincerity, because I have nothing but love for you. I genuinely do. I'm obsessed with Eduardo.

[1:46:44] Andrew: I, I want you-

[1:46:45] Conor: I love you, Eduardo.

[1:46:46] Andrew: I want your eyes to be opened with "Rose's Turn." I only hope that it does.

[1:46:52] Conor: You're talking into the void now, but he's furiously shaping as we speak.

[1:46:56] Andrew: Yeah, he's mad. I'm sorry.

[1:46:59] Conor: This on network television in 2010 for gay teenagers in particular was like this guy, Chris himself was like, what, 19 at the time? And like the way that Ryan talks about writing Kurt and Burt, that it's like, he is like, this is like kind of like the dream scenario of like how he wanted his, his own father to be. And, and it's not, it's, it's not all like, "Oh, let me, let's all, let's go to Fire Island, Kurt." Like, it's not like, it's not, it's not that. It's, it's like, it's, "Hey, again, meeting and meeting each other where they are," which I really, really love.

[1:47:40] Andrew: So, "Rose's Turn," I love you. Are we ready to vote? Do we have any final thoughts?

[1:47:45] Conor: I feel like one thing that I just have to say is that like, I'm really glad that we're like, um, that we like all besides Eduardo really like this song. Because sometimes I feel like when you guys talk about like, Glackett for Dummies, or it's just like, well, it's just like, the songs that everyone knows going through, I'm like, but I like those songs are so liked for a reason.

[1:48:10] Andrew: I was thinking about like, Glee for Dummies as it pertains to "Rose's Turn." I don't know. Yeah, I don't know if it really applies for this, because there's so much. There's so much that's going on beyond kind of like, surface value with other like, Glee for Dummies songs.

[1:48:27] Conor: That's actually a great point. That's a great point. Would it, would it pertain to "Rose's Turn"? Would "Glee for Dummies" pertain to "Rose's Turn"?

[1:48:36] Andrew: I know that had a moment, of course, on like, TikTok.

[1:48:39] Conor: Yeah. Yeah, of course, all that work and wanted to get me.

[1:48:43] Andrew: Right. Which is so iconic.

[1:48:44] Conor: Yeah. Yeah. Interesting. I would tend to agree with you, actually, Andrew, I think that "Rose's Turn" perhaps surpasses the "Glee for Dummies" of it all. Good for her.

[1:48:54] Andrew: What is the number one song that you're thinking of when you're when you say "Glee for Dummies"?

[1:48:57] Conor: Well, I just, I don't feel that way about any song is a thing. I don't like how it gets used, like as a pejorative, because I'm like, but these are good songs.

[1:49:06] Andrew: It's probably, yeah, it's probably something Darren.

[1:49:08] Conor: Yeah, that's a really good point, Liana, because I think, yeah, I need to check myself a little bit more. Because "Glee for Dummies," like I'm thinking about "Don't Stop Believing." And I'm thinking about like "Teenage Dream." But like both of those songs are there. So there's so much weight to both of them. And it's not just because of the fanfare kind of associated.

[1:49:26] Andrew: Oh, yeah, I don't think but I never took the phrase "Glee for Dummies" to be necessarily a negative thing. I just took it to mean that it's a song that has surpassed the culture into the non-Glee community.

[1:49:39] Conor: Sure. Yeah.

[1:49:40] Andrew: You know?

[1:49:41] Conor: Yeah, maybe I'm being...

[1:49:43] Andrew: No. Okay, are we ready to vote any final thoughts on "Rose's Turn"?

[1:49:49] Conor: I think I think not to jump the gun. Are we are we in agreeance that "Rose's Turn" is going to go for?

[1:49:57] Andrew: I think yeah. I really am obsessed.

[1:50:01] Conor: Yeah, it is fun. I was looking at the glock in preparation and just like the times on the glock where it's just like didn't vote. Because everyone was just like, "Oh, we all know."

[1:50:11] Andrew: Oh, we all know. Um, wait, so let's not have that happen right now. What are we all voting for?

[1:50:19] Conor: I'm going to throw the first brick for "Rose's Turn."

[1:50:23] Julianna: Okay, I'm also voting for "Rose's Turn."

[1:50:27] Andrew: Yeah, it's gonna be "Rose's Turn" for me as well, even though three so iconic, but I think ran its course. I think it's, that's good.

[1:50:36] Conor: I feel like "Three," dying around three is perfect.

[1:50:40] Andrew: Yeah. And I do feel like that's one of those like, good songs, but maybe not great. It's like,

[1:50:47] Conor: Yeah, it would be like a season four, not season four, uh, round four, like mid song, you'd kind of be like, "How is this still here?"

[1:50:55] Andrew: How is this still here?

[1:50:57] Conor: 100%. I think there was one point that I made in like my first glock at appearance of round three is that I, I'm of the belief that if you make it to round three, it really is just a case of, as I put it, it's an honor just to be nominated kind of thing.

[1:51:12] Andrew: Sure.

[1:51:13] Conor: You know, it really is an honor to make it this far. You've beat off two competitors. Good for you, girl.

[1:51:20] Andrew: Um, I do want to pull up this question that Eduardo, um, posed into the chat. If we're playing by the recently established my man versus four minutes rules, then three should have won this competition, correct? Um, powerful, emotional solo, "Rose's Turn" versus a group number that reinvents and elevates a song three.

[1:51:42] Conor: Interesting.

[1:51:44] Andrew: Well, I disagreed with that rule to begin with. So

[1:51:46] Conor: Yeah, I was going to say, I feel like I would have voted for my man. So

[1:51:50] Andrew: Oh, and there's that.

[1:51:56] Conor: But I also think that like, "Rose's" I, I just think that that "Three" doesn't have enough going for it. I think that "Three" as an inconsequential song.

[1:52:05] Andrew: Inconsequential song.

[1:52:07] Conor: Song.

[1:52:07] Andrew: Now here's, here's the real competition. Who are we voting for "Rose's Turn" versus "My Man"?

[1:52:17] Conor: Is it crickets?

[1:52:18] Andrew: No, I think I'm doing "Rose's Turn."

[1:52:21] Conor: That was my first instinct. But I don't know if it's just recency bias. Because I just watched it.

[1:52:27] Andrew: That's what Yeah, I think that you suffered from recency bias in the last episode, Andrew.

[1:52:31] Conor: No, no, because I also think I said that like, "My Man," had it been attached to a plot that wasn't "I'm auditioning for national solo," then maybe we could have that conversation. So yeah. Hey, I think I'd vote for just I think I'd vote for "Rose's Turn."

[1:52:55] Andrew: Okay, wait, Julianna, just to let everyone know, what would you have done?

[1:53:00] Julianna: I feel like, I feel like if we're going like full performances, I might also say "Rose's Turn" because I think like the atmosphere. Also real sorry, real quick. It's Anna. It's Julianna.

[1:53:14] Conor: No, it's okay. It happens.

[1:53:17] Julianna: It has two ends. It happens a lot. It's fine.

[1:53:19] Andrew: I'm so sorry.

[1:53:21] Conor: That's like with what was it?

[1:53:29] Julianna: I am so incredibly sorry.

[1:53:33] Andrew: Okay.

[1:53:37] Conor: Okay, Julianna, thank you so much for participating in this competition.

[1:53:42] Julianna: Thank you, Julianna. This was iconic.

[1:53:46] Conor: Do you feel like this was a good competition for you?

[1:53:50] Julianna: Yeah, I'm glad. And I'm glad it wasn't like two on my manifest list or else that would have been too much.

[1:53:56] Conor: Yeah, totally. Well, thank you so much, Julianna.

[1:54:01] Julianna: Thank you. I told my friends I was like, I'm reaching my final form. I'm going on a Glee podcast.

[1:54:10] Conor: No, this is just the beginning. This is only the beginning.

[1:54:13] Andrew: Here we go. Thank you so much.

[1:54:16] Andrew: Recap for this episode. "Dog Days Are Over."

[1:54:29] Conor: No, they're not.

[1:54:30] Andrew: No, they're not.

[1:54:34] Conor: That's a joke, right? "I'll Stand By You." Not anymore.

[1:54:41] Andrew: Is that it?

[1:54:42] Conor: I think sometimes simplicity wins.

[1:54:45] Andrew: Or "I'll Stand By You." Season one and done. I don't know.

[1:54:52] Conor: Okay. That also works.

[1:54:53] Andrew: Maybe.

[1:54:55] Conor: Julianna's setting the shot in the judge. "I'll Stand By You." Sit down.

[1:55:01] Andrew: Sit your ass down. "Three," "Three" leaving in round three. You kind of manifested that.

[1:55:08] Conor: I honestly believe there's something so poetic to us. Honestly, I think it's beautiful. If it went, even if that was my round four now, even if I had the, even if it's the only option of songs to vote back in, I wouldn't vote it in purely just for that.

[1:55:24] Andrew: It's something beautiful about that.

[1:55:25] Conor: Something really beautiful. Her namesake.

[1:55:29] Andrew: Yeah. Here lies "Three" in round three. Makes sense.

[1:55:36] Conor: In round three. Hello? Um, "Rose's Turn."

[1:55:44] Andrew: All that work and what did it get me?

[1:55:45] Conor: All that work and what did it get you? It got you round four.

[1:55:48] Andrew: Round four. How about that?

[1:55:50] Conor: How about that? This was, I'm glad that this happened today. We got some work done. I'm gonna, I don't want to stand on a giant note. It is my dream to get a rollover through. So I'm disappointed about that.

[1:56:03] Andrew: I can't believe we're another episode deeper and still.

[1:56:07] Conor: Seriously, it is kind of getting a bit of a joke at this stage.

[1:56:11] Andrew: Because we're, what, 60% of the way into round three now?

[1:56:15] Conor: Yeah, it's getting, it's getting bad.

[1:56:16] Andrew: That's a joke. So we're just going to have a lot of rollos now in quick succession.

[1:56:20] Conor: We could be talking about rollo and rollo on crime.

[1:56:23] Andrew: Yeah. It's. Seriously, I'm actually stressed out.

[1:56:27] Conor: I'm talking about "Only Exception." I'm talking about "Dromp." Those are the ones that I'm like, okay, I feel really safe about.

[1:56:33] Andrew: In my hands, I'll do my darndest.

[1:56:36] Conor: Yeah.

[1:56:37] Andrew: "On My Own," "Papa, Can You Hear Me?"

[1:56:40] Conor: "On My Own," I feel a little bit better about.

[1:56:42] Andrew: I think.

[1:56:42] Conor: "Papa, Can You Hear Me?" I think, "Papa, Can You Hear Me?" I think it's, thank you for coming to the function. It's time for you to leave at this stage.

[1:56:51] Andrew: Yeah.

[1:56:51] Conor: Personally.

[1:56:55] Andrew: Look, look, we'll keep the faith and we'll see how.

[1:56:59] Conor: "Crush," winner of my Glackett, round nine, at least.

[1:57:03] Andrew: Round nine, at the very least, yeah.

[1:57:06] Conor: At the very least.

[1:57:07] Andrew: If they want to see you yet more or post Instagram pictures more or anything that you would like them to do, what would you say? What would be that call to action?

[1:57:19] Conor: What's my call to action? Find me on Instagram and letterboxd at IamConorBurke.

[1:57:27] Andrew: Burke.

[1:57:28] Conor: It's an exciting month coming up for us both because it's your birthday month.

[1:57:32] Andrew: It is my birthday month.

[1:57:33] Conor: When is your birthday again?

[1:57:34] Andrew: November 20th.

[1:57:36] Conor: November 20th. I have a lot planned.

[1:57:41] Andrew: I can't wait for that part, that week of the podcast or like the week after your birthday podcast episode, because I want you to have about like a 15 minute segment, like talking about it. Like I want to hear all of it.

[1:57:50] Conor: Chess, spelling bee, wicked birthday.

[1:57:56] Andrew: It's got to be longer than 15. I'm just telling you right now.

[1:57:59] Conor: Train, bus, club, another club.

[1:58:02] Andrew: Plane.

[1:58:03] Conor: Chess.

[1:58:04] Andrew: Spelling bee.

[1:58:05] Conor: Oh my God.

[1:58:07] Andrew: And also Chicago with Alex Newell.

[1:58:10] Conor: Oh, I'm there.

[1:58:12] Andrew: That's also birthday week. That's also happening.

[1:58:14] Conor: All of this, it's terrible.

[1:58:17] Andrew: And what's the consensus?

[1:58:18] Conor: Just before I go, what's the consensus on chess thus far? Good, bad, indifferent?

[1:58:22] Andrew: I hear people like it. I talked to Alexa and Claudia and they both enjoyed. Alexa said that like she was like crying during intermission. And Claudia had some gripes with it.

[1:58:39] Conor: Maybe next time that she's on the podcast, she can talk about it.

[1:58:41] Andrew: She can talk. Yeah, but.

[1:58:43] Conor: Okay, well, when are you going to bootleg for it, May?

[1:58:45] Andrew: Just take it for the team.

[1:58:46] Conor: Of course.

[1:58:47] Andrew: I'll risk it for the biscuit.

[1:58:49] Conor: Okay, well, thank you so much, Connor.

[1:58:52] Conor: Thank you.

[1:58:53] Andrew: Thank you for having me.

[1:58:54] Conor: I love you, Gleeks.

[1:58:55] Andrew: Love you.

[1:58:56] Conor: Bye.

[1:58:59] Andrew: It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
