[0:00] Andrew: We've got a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee. There's no rhyme or reason to it, so don't get mad at me. Glacket by Glacket, we'll rank everyone to see which song will move closer to spot number one. Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week. It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week. It's time, wait, let me, let me think. It's time! It's time for another episode of Gleek of the Week Podcast. And you know what? Girls' night.
[0:47] Abby: Girls' night.
[0:49] Emily: Sometimes you just gotta Gleek with your girls just for one little week. And you know what? I think this is the week to do it. And I have two Gleeky girls that they are in multiple fandoms. They're in the Glee fandom, of course, because they're here. But they're also part of the Riverdale fandom. And they're hosts of the Riverdeep podcast. Of course, I'm talking about previous guests of this podcast, Abby and Emily.
[1:16] Abby: Hey!
[1:17] Emily: Hey, girl.
[1:18] Abby: Hey!
[1:20] Andrew: Hi, Andy. So, Riverdeep, Riverdale. You're getting Riverdeep with Riverdale. How's that going?
[1:28] Abby: Yes. It's been going great. We just finished season one. So we're really getting through it.
[1:36] Andrew: You're doing your civic duty.
[1:38] Abby: Yeah, yeah, yeah. People were asking, they said, we need a podcast. We need two girls talking about Riverdale every week.
[1:45] Emily: We have to answer.
[1:46] Andrew: You need to answer. And you're discovering some things, I would assume.
[1:50] Abby: We're discovering that podcasting is hard. Mostly Emily is discovering that shit more so than I am.
[1:55] Emily: Yeah.
[1:57] Abby: We don't need to pull back the curtains. It's actually really, really simple. And nothing is difficult about this entire platform.
[2:04] Emily: Nothing is difficult at all.
[2:06] Abby: Yeah.
[2:07] Emily: But it's-
[2:07] Abby: We're not ruining the illusion.
[2:08] Emily: We're not ruining the illusion. This is actually nothing that has ever happened on a podcast ever.
[2:14] Abby: No.
[2:15] Emily: But-
[2:15] Abby: No recordings have ever been removed.
[2:17] Emily: No recordings have ever been removed.
[2:18] Abby: No recordings have ever been deleted.
[2:21] Emily: Right. Okay, I was thinking about it. Glee and Riverdale, I'm thinking of one major connection, which is the character Brie, no last name, Erin Westbrook. Is there another collaboration between the Glee cast and the Riverdale cast?
[2:40] Abby: Oh, you have no idea.
[2:42] Emily: Please tell me.
[2:43] Abby: There's quite a few. Robert, the creator of Riverdale, was a writer.
[2:48] Emily: Roberto.
[2:48] Abby: Was a writer on Glee.
[2:50] Emily: Robert, what's his last name?
[2:52] Abby: It's Roberto Aguirre.
[2:54] Emily: Aguirre, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I know him.
[2:57] Abby: He wrote six episodes, I think.
[3:00] Emily: Oh, wow.
[3:01] Abby: And it's like pretty- He wrote On My Way.
[3:03] Emily: Well, he's credited for On My Way.
[3:05] Abby: He wrote On My Way, yeah. He's credited for some really wacky ones, I feel. I can't remember which one specifically, but Roberto.
[3:11] Emily: I think I wrote that one.
[3:11] Abby: It's a little crazy. But On My Way-
[3:15] Emily: On My Way's crazy.
[3:16] Abby: On My Way's a crazy pull. He wrote The First Time, On My Way, Gleece, Feud, Movin' Out, and The Backup Plan.
[3:25] Emily: Jesus Christ.
[3:26] Abby: Crazy Rob put that man into a box.
[3:30] Emily: No, that's why Riverdale's so great. He's pulling from everything he knows to make Riverdale.
[3:38] Abby: Wait, so it's not just him that's writing for Riverdale? Is it just one singular mind that is turning up the content?
[3:46] Emily: He's like the Ryan Murphy of Riverdale, basically.
[3:49] Abby: He's the showrunner. But yeah, they have a writer's room.
[3:52] Emily: Okay, wow. And so you're discovering things about Riverdale, rediscovering things about Riverdale. What are the big things for Gleeks that are like, hey, I'm looking for another show. Why would you tell a Gleek to consider Riverdale?
[4:11] Abby: Well, I personally think, and I think this is the same with Glee, Riverdale and Glee can be misunderstood. And the fact that it's like, oh, people just don't understand that it's a satire. It's here for fun. Obviously, it has the serious moments. But for the most part, you have to go into it with the lens of, oh, this is a satire. We're here for fun. Not everything has to be serious, ah, ah, ah, whatever, whatever. They feel so similar. When I'm watching, I'm just like, whoa, this is Glee. This is Glee suit. This is like Glee's younger, not as cute cousin.
[4:48] Emily: But they're still cousins. Like it's still family tree. Like they still have the same genetics, just a little bit different. It's very, it's, it's, I think Emily, you'll do a better job.
[5:01] Emily: It's fun and fresh.
[5:02] Abby: It's fun and fresh. If you like go into it with like, you're not trying to be too serious. You know, I think they have like similar, like Riverdale has a really bad reputation. Its reputation is just like everybody likes to make fun of it online. It's kind of like a, you know, let's like jump on the like common opinion, whatever. I feel like Glee kind of has that reputation with non-Gleeks as well. We're like people who like aren't Gleeks don't really understand the show fully. And it's all like the same, like typical, like discourse about it.
[5:32] Emily: Right.
[5:32] Abby: Yeah. I feel like Riverdale is the same way.
[5:36] Emily: Yeah. Wait, what is the big like Riverdale? Like with like Glee, obviously the first, the only thing, the big thing that's coming to mind right now is like that she may be difficult, but boy, can she sing. The illiteracy stuff. What are the things with Riverdale?
[5:53] Abby: Like that are like kind of like tip of the iceberg.
[5:58] Emily: I think the common sentiment is like, oh, it was so good in season one. And then it like got too crazy and it jumped off, it jumped the shark. You know, they get like superpowers in a later season.
[6:08] Abby: That's so fun.
[6:10] Emily: Yeah. And it's like based on a comic book. I understand why people like kind of fell off because season one is like a murder mystery. It's kind of serious.
[6:16] Abby: Yeah.
[6:18] Emily: But I think it gets really fun and people just like weren't aware of the tone. I remember years ago, this is like a non sequitur, but like I remember years ago, someone was like trying to convince me that Riverdale, I don't even like, okay. So they were like, I can't believe that the show Riverdale takes place in Riverdale, New York. It doesn't even look like Riverdale at all.
[6:39] Abby: Is it Riverdale, New York?
[6:41] Emily: We've had this discussion.
[6:43] Abby: And I was like, I don't know anything about this show, but I feel like there's no way that it's happening in Riverdale, New York.
[6:48] Emily: It might be.
[6:52] Abby: Really?
[6:52] Emily: It just might be.
[6:54] Abby: It might be. Have you been to Riverdale, New York?
[6:55] Emily: No, but from what I understand about both Riverdale, the actual place and Riverdale, the TV show, those things, those two things don't mesh.
[7:05] Abby: That's how I felt about it too. I was like, I feel like this isn't like actual Riverdale, but there are things in the show that say Riverdale, New York, but then there's also things that point to it being in Vermont, which I feel like is another likely place for it to take place, but it kind of is unconfirmed.
[7:22] Emily: Yeah.
[7:22] Abby: It's like a fake universe.
[7:26] Emily: Yeah. Like, where is it? I said the argument of I could see this happening in Riverdale, New York. I don't know shit about Riverdale, New York, but why not?
[7:37] Abby: Why am I under the impression that Riverdale, New York is like city?
[7:42] Emily: No, it's like urban.
[7:44] Abby: I have no idea what the fuck Riverdale, New York is.
[7:46] Emily: Yeah, I don't know.
[7:46] Abby: I don't travel. I don't know what's up there.
[7:49] Emily: Is it in the Bronx?
[7:49] Abby: It's in the Bronx, yes.
[7:51] Emily: Oh, then no.
[7:53] Abby: I feel like there's a, is there a Riverdale? Okay, then it's not that Riverdale. Well, Riverdale in the show, they shoot in Vancouver, Canada. So it looks like Canada, basically.
[8:03] Emily: And they also, another, we haven't even like called it out, the big commonality between this, these two shows, Glee and Riverdale, musicale, I mean, not always for Riverdale, but like when they choose to, yes?
[8:17] Abby: Yes.
[8:18] Emily: It's actually very musical. I mean, season one is the only season that doesn't have a musical episode.
[8:23] Abby: And there's still like a lot of songs. Like, just watch season one.
[8:28] Emily: Abby did not enjoy them.
[8:29] Abby: And they're doing like-
[8:30] Emily: A lot of songs.
[8:31] Abby: Again, this is not, this is me, someone that is like kind of retaining Riverdale information from afar without actually, like, without not actually like watching a full episode. They're, they're doing like tribute episodes when they do choose to sing, right?
[8:48] Emily: It depends.
[8:50] Abby: Like, sometimes they're like musical episodes. Like they did, what's that show called? The one with the girl Carrie?
[8:57] Emily: They did Carrie, the musical.
[8:58] Abby: But then sometimes they'll just have Archie singing his black-ass little songs that he wrote because he's a singer.
[9:01] Emily: I'm a songwriter, dad. And that's just what they, that's what they love to do. So sometimes it's like-
[9:07] Abby: And there's Josie and the Pussycats.
[9:10] Emily: Yeah, there's Josie and the Pussycats too. They have like a little band. Heather's is another one they did, right?
[9:15] Abby: Yeah, they do Carrie, they do Heather's. They did Hedwig in the Angry Inch.
[9:19] Emily: That's fun.
[9:20] Abby: They did Next to Normal in season five, which is really serious.
[9:24] Emily: Yeah, what a, what a kind of tangent.
[9:28] Abby: The storyline goes with it. And then in season six, they do American Psycho, the musical.
[9:34] Emily: Oh.
[9:35] Abby: Because apparently Roberto actually wrote that.
[9:37] Emily: Roberto actually wrote that.
[9:39] Abby: Roberto wrote the American Psycho musical, apparently, from what I've heard.
[9:42] Emily: So he wanted to do it on Riverdale.
[9:44] Abby: Yeah. This guy is dipping his toes in everything.
[9:48] Emily: He really does everything you could possibly imagine on Riverdale.
[9:52] Abby: And he needs to, he needs to do your podcast. And he needs to do this podcast.
[9:55] Emily: He just needs to do podcasts now.
[9:58] Abby: He does. Let's hit him up.
[9:59] Emily: I feel like he'd be down.
[10:01] Abby: Roberto, come on.
[10:02] Emily: I think he would. I know a lot about the guy.
[10:04] Abby: I don't.
[10:06] Emily: We know a lot. He wrote On My Way and Riverdale. We know a lot about this man.
[10:11] Abby: I know a lot about his spirit. I feel like On My Way encapsulates Riverdale, like as a show. It's just like so chaotic. There's so much going on at all times.
[10:20] Emily: Because Riverdale is also like a, it's a 45 minute show.
[10:24] Abby: Yes.
[10:25] Emily: Yeah, they're, they're packing things in.
[10:27] Abby: They're packing things in. There's never a dull moment. We review, we do two episodes at a time. At least we have one.
[10:33] Emily: That's crazy.
[10:36] Abby: Yeah, we have one.
[10:37] Emily: Yeah. And you're, you're packing in the content. So going from Riverdale over to Glee. Okay, we're talking about the Glackett. Emily, what was your competition? You've been on one singular competition before. What was it?
[10:54] Emily: It was Welcome Christmas versus Mercy.
[11:00] Abby: Wow.
[11:02] Emily: Oh, that's right.
[11:04] Abby: That famous competition.
[11:07] Emily: Yeah, everybody was talking about it.
[11:11] Abby: And Mercy did win. And people like are kind of upset about like Mercy still being around.
[11:16] Emily: I like it though.
[11:18] Abby: Yeah, people, people were like, why didn't you send through a Christmas song? But like, I don't know.
[11:25] Emily: It was a no brainer.
[11:26] Abby: Yeah, it is. Welcome Christmas is the Wahoo.
[11:31] Emily: Yo, low key. That shit is, that shit eats. I'm not gonna lie. You guys gonna listen to it? Like, no, no, like, look, like, is it what I passed through? Would I pick Mercy over? Yeah. But if you like, listen to like the mp3, it actually sounds like what the Glee Club probably sounded like, because there are the actors are actually doing the background vocals without like a big choir in the background. And fucking those random singers that they, whatever. So I was like, I love it. It's like so charming. I felt like, oh, I'm sitting in the, in the classroom and they broke out into fucking Wahoo Doray, Dahoo Doris. It's so funny. And it's like behind the scenes. And we're like waiting for scenes to change. No, it's just just me. You hear them singing down the hallway.
[12:12] Abby: I don't know how to say this, Abby. But like, I am like, consistently impressed that like, you can like, we can say Welcome Christmas, which is like, not like a Glee song that I feel like even like the biggest of Gleeks would have an opinion on, let alone a nuanced opinion. But we were like, Welcome Christmas. And then you were like, actually, no, I have a lot to say about Welcome Christmas.
[12:32] Emily: There's a lot to be said, like,
[12:41] Abby: Is there?
[12:43] Emily: No.
[12:45] Abby: I remember not having anything to say, honestly.
[12:48] Emily: Yeah.
[12:49] Abby: No, it's such a feel good moment, guys. It's like, oh, like, we saved Christmas. She's a hater. But who cares? Like, we didn't have to cut our hair and sell our watches. The mp3's badass. It's mad good. Like, I'm telling you, go home or you're home already. Put on your headphones. Or you're home already, maybe. And then listen to like, you hear Corey's background voice. You hear, I think it's Amber, Corey, Kevin, Jenna, Leah's in there.
[13:17] Emily: Wait, are they really all in the studio for that?
[13:21] Abby: Bro, I'm telling you, dude, maybe not. I could be lying. But I'm pretty sure. Listen, you say things with such confidence every time.
[13:28] Emily: Yeah, I do.
[13:29] Abby: Yeah.
[13:31] Emily: I believe that Ashley Fink went into the studio for that one.
[13:35] Abby: You can tell me anything.
[13:36] Emily: You can. Actually, Vanessa Lange is in the studio. I believe that's Lauren's icy solo.
[13:42] Abby: Okay, look, look. Yes.
[13:44] Emily: Wait, I was, I was spilling. Hold on, hold on. Maybe there wasn't any Tina. But there was Artie, Finn, Mercedes, and Rachel.
[13:50] Abby: Of course there wasn't Tina.
[13:51] Emily: Oh, no, there was Tina.
[13:52] Abby: Fuck off.
[13:52] Emily: Yeah.
[13:56] Abby: I got all five of them off the fucking dome. It's been years since I've looked at this. And I still remember it because that's how good it was, guys. Like, it was good. Then I was going to do a big, like, vocal thread of Tina songs, right?
[14:09] Emily: Did you not?
[14:10] Abby: I did for season one.
[14:12] Emily: Yeah, okay. But then for season two, I was collecting all the stuff for season two. And that's how I got into looking at Tina doing it. Because she used to hold the Christmas songs down.
[14:21] Abby: She was Christmas mama, especially in season 2. She held it down for real. If you needed somebody to do a Christmas song, it was her and Kevin. And this is how I found the one and only time that Kevin and Naya sang together at the same time on a track. It's during Up on the Rooftop, Reindeer Claws. That can't be the only time, is it? I'm like, well, maybe not. But it's one of the, no, no, because in Fly, I Believe I Can Fly, they sing, but like next to each other. They always sing, never at the same time. You know what? Have either of you seen that the YouTube video where it goes through all like the statistics of like when the Gleek Club members have sang at the same time?
[14:56] Emily: Yes, yes.
[14:57] Abby: Yeah. And I'm gonna look back. I'm gonna look back to see the Arty and Santana, like the history of them singing together. Because I believe, like the Fly, I Believe I Can Fly, they're not singing together. But like Bad, maybe?
[15:26] Emily: Thriller, Hedgehog Roll?
[15:28] Abby: Oh.
[15:29] Emily: Ooh.
[15:30] Abby: Good shout.
[15:31] Emily: That's a good shout.
[15:32] Abby: Maybe not in the episode. Why are we, why are we? That's so fucking insane. Wait, what did you say, Emily?
[15:38] Emily: Maybe not in the episode version, but.
[15:40] Abby: Yeah.
[15:41] Emily: Okay. I don't know. But Mercy.
[15:44] Abby: Yes, they say, they say, Don, we gay. Don, we now are gay apparel. That's their line.
[15:50] Emily: Okay.
[15:51] Abby: That's why they're not together.
[15:52] Emily: Of course, they're donning their gay apparel.
[15:57] Abby: Yeah.
[15:58] Emily: Yeah.
[15:59] Abby: Okay. Well, Galactic Grievances. Emily, it's been a minute since that really famous competition. What do you have to say about the Galactic as it stands right now?
[16:10] Emily: Well, first of all, I actually have, I wouldn't talk about round one, except for the fact that I have literally never heard anybody mention this song on the podcast. And it's one of my favorite Glee songs. And I just want to give it a little shout out. In round one, what's that, the Sunshine solo, As Long As You're There?
[16:33] Abby: Yeah.
[16:34] Emily: That went through over Holding Out for a Hero, which is like one of my favorite Glee songs. And I was like really upset about it at the time.
[16:41] Abby: That's confusing.
[16:42] Emily: And I hate to be like this, but like, check the voting document.
[16:46] Abby: I did vote for Holding Out for a Hero.
[16:49] Emily: It was based. As Long As You're There, Sleepy, Snooze.
[16:56] Abby: Yeah. I think people voted for it just because of the vocals, but like.
[17:01] Emily: Yeah.
[17:02] Abby: Holding Out for a Hero also has great vocals. What are we doing? What was that, like season two? That's, what is that?
[17:08] Emily: Yeah, season two finale.
[17:09] Abby: Finale? I'm not gagging, no shade. But you know who were, you know who was gagging? The season two nationals judges.
[17:18] Emily: They were.
[17:19] Abby: Apparently. And they said they win.
[17:22] Emily: They win.
[17:23] Abby: They're the best Glee club in the nation.
[17:25] Emily: Okay, so you're bringing up that competition. I agree. I'm sad about Holding Out for a Hero. Should have lived, should have held out a little bit longer. At least for round two, but.
[17:35] Abby: Yeah.
[17:36] Emily: Whatever. I mean, my girls deserve better. We have like so few Marley songs in the Glockenspiel still. And I love her voice.
[17:43] Abby: Using Jo's dread as a whip?
[17:47] Emily: Yes.
[17:48] Abby: So, so inspired.
[17:51] Emily: That's gotta be a microaggression of some sort, no?
[17:57] Abby: They were saying something.
[17:58] Emily: People said this.
[17:59] Abby: They were. The way she like whips and then it like splits apart the chairs.
[18:04] Emily: And Vanessa Lange's like holds her neck because she's like, ooh, ow, that hurt.
[18:12] Abby: It's so good. That's kind of, I just wanted to like give that song its respect.
[18:16] Emily: Okay.
[18:17] Abby: And then round three. For the most part, I agree. I think Abby was on this episode. I would have voted for Chasing Pavements over 808. I know people are saying this.
[18:28] Emily: And then.
[18:35] Abby: Okay, Toucha Toucha Touch Me verse You Learn You've Got a Friend. I love You Learn You've Got a Friend. Like that song is so good. It always makes me cry when I listen to it.
[18:44] Emily: I don't know why.
[18:45] Abby: Yeah.
[18:46] Emily: But I understand why Toucha Touch Me went through. Like that's Emma's best song. I also love that song. It's like I get it. But.
[18:54] Abby: I don't know. You Learn You've Got a Friend just makes me so emo.
[18:57] Emily: It does make me emo too. I forgot that competition happened. That's like a really.
[19:00] Abby: I can't believe. Wow. I didn't know that was happening.
[19:03] Emily: It's hard.
[19:04] Abby: It's a hard competition.
[19:05] Emily: That's so hard.
[19:06] Abby: Wow. And I think I voted for it to come back, but it didn't win, obviously.
[19:09] Emily: I don't remember what it lost against.
[19:11] Abby: Yeah. You Learn You've Got a Friend. It's like so like cute and just like I can like just relax listening to a song. And the vocals are actually very stellar.
[19:22] Emily: Like they're stellar.
[19:23] Abby: It's phenomenal. You have Santana, Tina, Brittany and Quinn singing together in that one.
[19:28] Emily: Yeah.
[19:29] Abby: At that one part.
[19:30] Emily: A Tina and Quinn vocal. Like come on.
[19:31] Abby: Tina and Quinn vocal. I remember fighting people and they're like, no, this is not Quinn, it's Tina. And I'm like, bro, you guys have bad ears. Like you guys are not getting who's doing what right. And it's embarrassing me.
[19:41] Emily: And then you have the.
[19:42] Abby: Wait, go ahead. Finish your thought.
[19:44] Emily: At the end when you have like.
[19:48] Abby: With Rachel and Santana.
[19:49] Emily: Like.
[19:50] Abby: Yeah.
[19:51] Emily: Yes.
[19:52] Abby: Yes. And you know what? That's too good. We're talking about the people that were on the song. I'm talking about the people that weren't on the song, which made it better. I'm talking about Puck not being invited to this song. After doing shit for an entire episode, literally in the full episode. Nothing. He doesn't do anything. It would have been very easy for them to be like, Mark, come on into the studio. Like you get to have like a vocal standout in this final number. But they were like, no, no, no, no, no. You're going to be there and you're not going to sing anything. And I'm grateful.
[20:25] Emily: It's girls in the gays only.
[20:27] Abby: Girls in the gays only. It's not for you. Not everything is for you. Get out of here.
[20:32] Emily: We're throwing eggs.
[20:34] Abby: Yeah. He's like begging. I want to go inside. No, you're not. I'm just going to go in and it's more accepting, caroling. No. Home was your last song. Home was your last vocal. You already had your last vocal.
[20:47] Emily: That vocal was T a little bit.
[20:49] Abby: It was. It was. It was T. And it is, you know what? I'll say it. It's cute when like him and like Santana are like the homecoming court.
[20:58] Emily: I agree.
[20:59] Abby: I agree.
[21:00] Emily: Yeah.
[21:01] Abby: Like, okay. Like, you know, like football player head.
[21:03] Emily: Yeah.
[21:05] Abby: Also, because I used to read so many things of being her, her like best, like, like not best man, but like her, like, bro, who would help her, like who would help her get girls like that? Be her, like her bestie. Like, I feel like every, like, so my, my view of him that I have is very tainted because that one doesn't exist in my mind. I've created a puck in my mind that doesn't exist. And it's based on those characterizations alone. So in my mind, I'm like, oh, that's fanfic Santana and puck.
[21:33] Emily: Yeah.
[21:34] Abby: That's what's happening there. Create the puck that you want to see in the world.
[21:41] Emily: You're fucking funny.
[21:45] Abby: I feel like I really need to pull up when Abby, like you're on an episode. I'm like, I need, I need to be funny because this girl, I don't know what she's about to do.
[21:54] Emily: I feel the same way when we record our podcast. I'm like, Abby's just here to be funny and I'm editing. That's all I need to do. I'm not going to live up to her.
[22:02] Abby: There is this one time. Well, first of all, I didn't realize we had it. I found out that we had a tick tock for our podcast.
[22:14] Emily: Found out we had a tick tock for the podcast.
[22:18] Abby: And we posted something on Twitter and she said, oh, like in our TikTok, we have a tick tock this whole time?
[22:26] Emily: And I was like, I feel like I don't do a lot. I don't do anything for this podcast. You're making the clips and this and that. I feel like I just show up and then she's like, yeah, that's fine. I'm like, OK, but I mean, I listen.
[22:40] Abby: Well, thanks, guys. I'm glad you enjoyed it. You know, sometimes I feel like I yap too much. I've been trying to police my yap, Emily.
[22:47] Emily: I think that's the perfect problem to have if you're going to be having podcasting as like your art form that you're doing.
[22:56] Abby: Yeah.
[23:02] Emily: I'm glad that you have so much to say because I thought I was going to have so much. I'm like the, you know, seasoned Riverdale-ian person here.
[23:12] Abby: Back in my day.
[23:13] Emily: Back in my day.
[23:14] Abby: Yeah.
[23:16] Emily: Wait, what were we just? Oh, you're talking about home. Wait, so then are there any other round three competitions that you're upset about, Emily?
[23:23] Emily: Um, honestly, I'm OK with everything else. I'm still really upset about it's all coming back to me now, leaving, because I think that's like literally Rachel's best solo. But.
[23:37] Abby: And of course, lost to Dromp.
[23:41] Emily: Rachel's Dromp, of course, which was like that, like that competition will stick with me. I will never forget that one. That one's so crazy that that happened. What do you think is Rachel's best solo?
[23:53] Abby: Oh, my favorite. My favorite rolo is Only Exception. I'm obsessed. I just think it just like encapsulates her character really well.
[24:01] Emily: I.
[24:02] Abby: It made me a Finchel stan. I think it's just very cute. I just like the single tear.
[24:09] Emily: Oh, my God.
[24:10] Abby: Well, he's getting emotional.
[24:12] Emily: I can't let it out.
[24:13] Abby: No.
[24:14] Emily: I can't.
[24:15] Abby: You can.
[24:16] Emily: You can't get into it.
[24:17] Abby: No.
[24:18] Emily: You can.
[24:19] Abby: You can't get into it. We have time.
[24:21] Emily: We have time.
[24:22] Abby: Um, Abby, do you have anything to say about the Glocken as it stands right now?
[24:26] Abby: Glocken as it stands right now. Listen, I'm still a little confused as to the somebody to love and the who who who went through.
[24:35] Emily: OK, so here's this is breaking glues.
[24:38] Abby: Breaking glues is that.
[24:43] Emily: Breaking glues is that.
[24:45] Abby: OK, so the competition two episodes ago was somebody to love versus Bohemian Rhapsody. And in the episode, somebody to love won. Abby, what what do you vote for in that competition?
[24:56] Abby: Somebody to love.
[24:57] Emily: Right.
[24:58] Abby: Yeah, for sure.
[24:59] Emily: Right.
[25:00] Abby: Bohemian Rhapsody.
[25:02] Emily: So we're recording this as the poll for that episode is currently up. And Bohemian Rhapsody, I think, like has like 70 percent or something, which is I don't know what the worms are doing inside people's brains. But the Instagram Gleeks are different.
[25:13] Abby: They're just so...
[25:16] Emily: Wait, what? The what Gleeks are different?
[25:18] Abby: The Instagram Gleeks.
[25:19] Emily: Instagram.
[25:20] Abby: Yeah, you can't really trust them. Like not to say Instagram instant gratification, but that's what it's giving. Like Bohemian Rhapsody is an instant gratification type feeling.
[25:29] Emily: Somebody to love. It's like give me I need a fix.
[25:33] Abby: Yeah. Yes. Somebody to love is something that festers and stays in your heart. It grows roots into your heart.
[25:39] Emily: Right.
[25:40] Abby: Yeah. I mean, it's hard for a beautiful wood tree to grow, grow, grow, grow. But whatever this look like, Bohemian Rhapsody is great. It's beautiful. It's amazing. It's just sparkles. It's glitz and glam. Somebody to love is home. Somebody to love is real. Somebody to love is family. It has performance. It has family. This is the Gleek Club.
[25:58] Emily: Yeah.
[25:59] Abby: I totally agree. And like, I really do genuinely feel, I don't know what either your feelings are about like the actual like winner of the Glackett, but like somebody to love season one always to me has been like the big contender, the big, that's like, that's the big one to beat.
[26:20] Emily: But as the breaking glues is that the song that was voted back an episode or like as it was officially this past Friday, Bohemian Rhapsody is back and round for the Glackett.
[26:35] Abby: So is the boy's mind back or is it gone gone?
[26:39] Emily: The boy's mind is gone, gone.
[26:41] Abby: No, it won the vote. I remember because it was against it's all coming back to me now and it won over it's all coming back to me now and the vote back, right?
[26:49] Emily: And then in round three did lose to I Know Where I've Been.
[26:54] Abby: Oh, and it didn't get voted back.
[26:56] Emily: And that did not get voted back. I don't wait. So she's dead, dead.
[27:00] Abby: She's, she's.
[27:01] Emily: I repeated her.
[27:02] Abby: I didn't think she was.
[27:03] Emily: Wait.
[27:04] Abby: I thought she was alive.
[27:05] Emily: I thought she was alive. Am I making this up?
[27:07] Abby: Gaslight.
[27:09] Emily: Gaslight.
[27:10] Abby: Gaslight.
[27:11] Emily: Yeah.
[27:12] Abby: It's still.
[27:13] Emily: People really like the boy's mind.
[27:14] Abby: No.
[27:15] Emily: Okay. So in that vote back, it was boy's mind came in second in that vote back, but it lost to Run Joey Run.
[27:23] Abby: Okay.
[27:24] Emily: Oh, you don't piss me off again.
[27:26] Abby: I think we talked about this last time. It was, it's actually, I'm good off this conversation.
[27:31] Emily: We can move on.
[27:32] Abby: We can actually move on.
[27:34] Emily: Wait, so Abby, do you have anything else to say about anything related to Glackett?
[27:38] Abby: I just, back to the Run Joey, like, what the fuck?
[27:40] Emily: Oh, I thought you wanted to move on.
[27:42] Abby: No, but I was lying. I can't. I can't. I need to say my piece. So you're saying it lost the comeback to Run Joey Run.
[27:49] Emily: Yeah.
[27:50] Abby: Run Joey Run outsold. With your full, with full honesty, you think Run Joey Run deserved to get, we should, we need to be able to, to veto some, some people just don't know.
[28:03] Emily: No, I'm actually like, I'm saying with my full chest right now, Run Joey Run is a better song to me than Boyz Mine.
[28:11] Abby: Get the fuck out.
[28:12] Emily: I can't.
[28:13] Abby: Get the fuck out.
[28:14] Emily: Emily, Emily, this is a, I think, I think MP4, Run Joey Run, MP3, The Boyz Mine. That's how I feel.
[28:20] Abby: I like that.
[28:23] Emily: That's fair.
[28:24] Abby: I guess.
[28:25] Emily: I guess.
[28:26] Abby: But Run Joey Run is a, is a, is a, whatever.
[28:30] Emily: I feel like, where's Jenna? Where's Jenna when you need her?
[28:32] Abby: Yeah, Jenna hates that song.
[28:33] Emily: Wait, but I will say that like Jenna's dislike for Run Joey Run is like not based in, it's not based in anything.
[28:43] Abby: I feel insane saying that about a woman that I love, but I'm like, why do you actually not like this song? You have no reason. Sometimes you just don't need to read it to survive. Maybe there's a story about that day she can't tell. Maybe it's not her story to tell.
[29:00] Emily: It's true. Something really bad happened on set. The day that they filmed. Wait, but what would the, it would just be like when she watched "Run Joey Run"?
[29:09] Abby: Maybe, I don't know. Maybe she was mad she wasn't in it. No, I don't think so. She doesn't like the song. She doesn't like the song. Yeah.
[29:22] Emily: Yeah, the song is just like, it's, I mean, like, are you streaming? I mean, I guess nobody's streaming "The Boy Is Mine." Guys, go get your Brandy Monica tickets. Go get your Brandy Monica tickets. With Kelly Rowland opening?
[29:30] Abby: Kelly Rowland opening? What?
[29:32] Emily: I didn't know about this. I feel like it should be the other way around.
[29:39] Abby: Is Kelly Rowland opening? Is somebody else?
[29:44] Emily: There is someone else.
[29:45] Abby: Yeah.
[29:46] Emily: Insane. But yeah.
[29:48] Abby: Okay. What else? Whatever. We're moving on. We're moving on to this. Well, this is a cultural divide. This is the cultural differences. That's what's coming in. That's what it comes down to. I'm going to say, I'm going to talk about.
[29:58] Emily: Okay.
[29:59] Abby: But I understand your point of view. "Run Joey Run" is so, and you know, you know, yeah. And I'm talking in it. I can see your face is like turning and turning, but I'm not getting cut off. I just have nothing to add.
[30:13] Emily: Oh no, I didn't think that you were getting cut off. I understood that you weren't completing the thought.
[30:18] Abby: Okay. Thank God. I can say you guys are, you guys are both turning your head at the same time. I was like, oh, am I disconnecting?
[30:24] Emily: No, it's because you said it is so, you know.
[30:29] Abby: I was waiting. I was waiting. I was like, I want to know what the word she's going to use is.
[30:35] Emily: Okay. So manifestations for this episode. Abby, what are you hoping to see coming out of the cup?
[30:40] Abby: There are so many bangers left, honestly. Like, I would love to get most of the songs. The winner of my Glackett is still in that cup.
[30:53] Emily: Which is?
[30:54] Abby: Oh, who's the winner?
[30:55] Emily: It's the song that changed everything.
[30:57] Abby: We are young.
[30:58] Emily: Don't stop believing. Oh.
[30:59] Abby: The song that changed everything.
[31:04] Emily: Yeah.
[31:05] Abby: That's the winner of your Glackett.
[31:06] Emily: It's the winner of my Glackett. I know. I feel like that's like a not popular opinion, but it's just like a very personal song for me.
[31:16] Abby: Yeah.
[31:17] Emily: So, like, I'm just biased towards it.
[31:21] Abby: Yeah. No, I do get her. I do love her a lot. Yeah. And then I actually have a list of songs that Riverdale did, that Glee also did. And two of them are still in the cup. So one of those would be cool. "Toxic" or "Rose's Turn."
[31:39] Abby: Riverdale did "Rose's Turn"?
[31:41] Emily: They did.
[31:42] Abby: I'm so scared. Is it bad?
[31:44] Emily: It's in the final season.
[31:46] Abby: That's insane.
[31:48] Emily: Yeah. They did a lot of, like, musical theatre songs.
[31:52] Abby: Wow. And it's possible that we could get "Toxic" versus "Rose's Turn." Wow.
[31:57] Emily: Wow. Yeah, we could.
[31:59] Abby: Um, Emily, what are you hoping to see? What do you want? With, like, this vibe?
[32:06] Emily: Listen, I can't. I need to send my babies home to, like, through. I'm just here to send any song I like through. I don't care what it is. Let's see. I don't know. I'm always the same thing. Something Santana. I'm consistent. Something Santana. And something from seasons one to three. Like, I'm consistent. Like, that's what I want. I need to get them. I need to get them safely. But I'm also I also wouldn't mind sending some of the mid ones away. Like, I wouldn't be mad at like, because like, because sometimes you have like a mid a mid off. Yeah. And then a mid song gets sent through. I need them. It's I just need them all gone. I just want superior songs at round four.
[32:44] Abby: You want to clean?
[32:44] Emily: I would like to send home "Mercy," to be honest. I wouldn't be mad about that.
[32:51] Abby: You again.
[32:52] Emily: We meet again. Okay, let's see. Let's see song number one.
[33:04] Abby: Oh, big, don't you big contender for people are saying, I know one Gleek in particular, Lena Knatzer. This is, this is the winner. Okay, you know what it is?
[33:20] Emily: I know what it is.
[33:21] Abby: You know what this is?
[33:22] Emily: Oh, all right. Anyway.
[33:24] Abby: Okay. Wait, the first frame is not the first. I think it's just like showing the middle frame. Um, okay. It is. I'm not going to teach your boyfriend how to dance with you.
[33:35] Emily: Marvelous Marvin. Sugar Ray is great.
[33:42] Abby: Wait, okay. Explain both names to me like I'm an idiot, which I am. Sugar Ray. What is the, what is that reference?
[33:53] Emily: Um, he's a singer.
[33:55] Abby: That's like, I just want to fly.
[33:57] Emily: Yes, yes, yes. From like the early 2000s.
[34:00] Abby: Okay.
[34:00] Emily: Very thin, I feel like.
[34:02] Abby: What is Marvelous, Marvelous Marvin?
[34:05] Emily: I don't know that one. That's Abby.
[34:07] Abby: I don't know who any of these people are. I don't, I don't know.
[34:10] Emily: Marvelous Marvin. Oh, he's like, um, is he a boxer?
[34:19] Abby: Oh.
[34:19] Emily: Yeah, he's a boxer. So that's, that's the joke that they're, they're fighting.
[34:25] Abby: That makes sense.
[34:27] Emily: Um, I'm not going to teach your boyfriend how to dance with you. Abby.
[34:31] Abby: Oh, Sugar Ray's a boxer.
[34:33] Emily: What?
[34:34] Abby: Sugar, Sugar Ray is a singer and a boxer.
[34:38] Emily: Wait, there's a black Sugar Ray and a white Sugar Ray. Black Sugar Ray is a boxer.
[34:43] Abby: Wow.
[34:47] Emily: If Marvelous Marvin is a boxer.
[34:49] Abby: Yeah, that makes sense.
[34:50] Emily: Yeah.
[34:52] Abby: Wait, that's why, see, I was feeling stupid for asking that question. I definitely did not know that reference. That's-
[35:00] Emily: Why would we? We don't know sports.
[35:02] Abby: Why would we know?
[35:02] Emily: That's the thing I love about Glee. You learn something new every fucking day.
[35:05] Abby: If you really put the time and effort, you can, you too can make references to Sugar Ray and Marvelous Marvin.
[35:11] Emily: Sugar Ray and Marvelous Marvin were a show that like 13 year olds are watching.
[35:16] Abby: 13 year old gay kids are watching.
[35:20] Emily: Abby, do you want to start the discourse on, I'm not going to teach your boyfriend how to dance with you?
[35:25] Abby: There is so much going on in this song. Like, it is truly a gem. It's not even just the song itself. Like, the mp4 is just a goldmine of content.
[35:35] Emily: Yes.
[35:36] Abby: I love how everyone is having fun dancing. Santana and Karofsky, Sam and Mercedes, they were having so much fun just like being dorks.
[35:45] Emily: Yeah.
[35:46] Abby: Love it. I also love Sam's bolo tie.
[35:50] Emily: I know, which is like, which I'm finding to be like almost like a controversial opinion as of late that like people are like kind of not vibing with the bolo tie.
[35:58] Abby: I love a bolo tie.
[36:00] Emily: I think it's so cute.
[36:02] Abby: I agree.
[36:03] Emily: I didn't know people weren't vibing with it.
[36:04] Abby: Yeah.
[36:04] Emily: Haters.
[36:05] Abby: Haters. Um, yeah, those shots of like Sam Sadie's and what is Karofsky and Santana's ship name?
[36:13] Emily: Santofsky.
[36:14] Abby: Santofsky, thank you. Those shots, there's something about the way that they're framed. It's like, it's just like so funny to me that they're just like kind of, they are like performing for camera, you know?
[36:28] Emily: Um, oh my god.
[36:30] Abby: It's just such a perfect performance.
[36:32] Emily: Abby, what do you think?
[36:33] Abby: Great song. Didn't really get it until I started listening to your podcast.
[36:38] Emily: Really?
[36:38] Abby: Because, yeah, didn't give a fuck. No shade. Uh-huh. What the fuck am I supposed to do with this song, is what I was thinking. When it would, like, I didn't care that he was singing. I was like, oh, Finney's about to beat Jesse's ass. Santofsky's having fun. Sam Sadie's having fun. Artie's about to get his teeth pulled out. I don't, I could care, I could care less. There's a code blue in the auditorium.
[36:56] Emily: There's a code blue in the auditorium.
[36:57] Abby: In the gymnasium, sorry, yeah. In the gymnasium, I apologize. I couldn't care less what the fuck Blaine was singing on that stage. It wasn't until I heard y'all yap, yap, yap, yap, yapping about the song, okay, let me sit down, let me take a good look at what's actually going on. You got it.
[37:10] Emily: I can confidently say this is a good song. I wouldn't say it's his number one solo for me.
[37:15] Abby: And what would that be?
[37:16] Emily: Personally, I'm a Kostyrop girl. I really do. I do, I fuck Kostyrop. I do fuck up with Kostyrop.
[37:21] Abby: I wasn't expecting that, but okay.
[37:24] Emily: I do, yeah. I think that's, um, you know, people love to say, somewhere only we know, which is great. That's great. But Kostyrop is really, I think he peaked. I think that was his peak. I think this song is funner, more fun. But yeah, I definitely didn't get it. And then I had to, you know, understand it. I honestly, gonna be honest, I still don't get why everybody loves this song. But, you know, it's a good song.
[37:46] Abby: Well, I love it.
[37:46] Emily: It's very good. I love when Glee takes like an indie song, like an indie pop song that's like not popular, um, and does it. I think it's fun. I think it's like so fun, like, to like learn songs that I don't know from Glee. That's also why, like, "We Are Young" a lot.
[38:01] Abby: Right.
[38:01] Emily: I was just thinking about "We Are Young."
[38:02] Abby: Oh, you didn't know "We Are Young."
[38:03] Emily: I will say that, like, listening to the original, "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You," I don't like the arrangement. I don't think of the original. I much prefer the way that Glee did it.
[38:19] Abby: There's something like a little bit like more like muted about the original.
[38:24] Emily: Yeah, it sounds more like it sounds like it was recorded in like the 80s or something.
[38:28] Abby: Yeah, whereas like this is like, I'm like pumped listening to it.
[38:32] Emily: It's impossible not to be excited, you know.
[38:35] Abby: So what I'm hearing is that you don't like Black Kids. Is that what I'm hearing?
[38:37] Emily: Yeah, I mean, you can you can you can tweet that.
[38:43] Abby: Yeah.
[38:45] Emily: So you hate Black Kids.
[38:46] Abby: Yeah. Good to know. Good to know.
[38:48] Emily: The original artist, for anybody that's not aware, that is the original artist of "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You."
[38:55] Abby: Yeah.
[38:56] Emily: No, that's fair about the instrumentals. I prefer like, especially if you've heard the Glee one before, and then you hear the original song after, and like the instrumentals are just not what you they're just not Adam Anders. It's disappointing.
[39:08] Abby: Right. He just needs to he needs he needs to do his little producing thing.
[39:13] Emily: Um, what else did I want to say? Uh, oh, I always think that's like funny in this episode that they like kind of like give context for her him singing earlier in the episode where he's like on the couch with Finn. He's like, you sure it's okay that I if I jam out with you at prom? And I'm like, that's not a conversation that they would be having in season four or five of Glee.
[39:38] Abby: He would just fucking do it.
[39:40] Emily: Yeah, you know? Like there and even then I still I still forgot he had a reason. Yeah, I forgot that he even said that shit. The fact that they gave context is crazy.
[39:48] Abby: Yeah. It's like, when Riverdale tries to explain something like, oh, they did they built. Oh, they actually placed eggs here. There's an Easter egg here.
[39:56] Emily: Yeah. Speaking of Riverdale, some of the lines are very Riverdale. Beat it, MJ. It's none of YB, your business.
[40:04] Abby: No, like literally that's Riverdale down.
[40:07] Emily: Wait, what's the Azemio? There's like an there's an Azemio line like the episode before that he also like says like MB.
[40:13] Abby: It's like, why?
[40:19] Emily: Oh, this is none of my this is none of my P. My MP, my problem. This is your problem. YB, your problem.
[40:27] Abby: The Glee writers were like obsessed with making these jokes. Like making up acronyms.
[40:34] Emily: Yeah.
[40:35] Abby: Yeah.
[40:37] Emily: Twitter just came out. They're making some they're trying to like make wave trademark.
[40:40] Abby: MP, my problem. Hashtag your business.
[40:43] Emily: Your business.
[40:46] Abby: It's such a perfect number. Um, I'm like scared for her.
[40:51] Emily: I.
[40:52] Abby: No.
[40:53] Emily: What?
[40:53] Abby: Don't be scared.
[40:54] Emily: Don't be scared.
[40:55] Abby: I want to I just don't want to disappoint Lena. I want to take care of her baby.
[41:00] Emily: Yeah, I will do my best. I will say some other things that I wanted to write to point out. Was that like, do you guys think like? How do you think Tina and Britney like came into the fold for this song? Do you think he asked them? Did Kurt volunteer them?
[41:14] Abby: I think.
[41:15] Emily: Is this was this the beginning of Tina and Blaine or like what?
[41:22] Abby: I think that like there's somehow like Tina and Britney like lost a bet or something. Or like they are like paying their dues somehow that like every time that they. They need to backup singers. It's like, oh, well, you could just use Tina and Britney.
[41:38] Emily: The designated backup singers.
[41:40] Abby: Yeah, they're like the alto and alto pairing that are really just gonna.
[41:46] Emily: Well, also soprano pairing that are really gonna hold down.
[41:52] Abby: Right. And it's like, oh, like you almost like rent them out, which sounds insane.
[42:00] Emily: They have a business.
[42:01] Abby: And it's actually their vocals, right?
[42:03] Emily: I do not think so.
[42:07] Abby: Do you think so?
[42:09] Emily: I don't know.
[42:10] Abby: I'm going to say it's not.
[42:11] Emily: It usually isn't when they do the backup vocals.
[42:14] Abby: Yeah, you are the girl. And that's why I like that's why I like "Welcome Christmas." Because.
[42:21] Emily: Okay.
[42:27] Abby: Wait, but also speaking about Tina, speaking about Jenna. Jenna's also said that she doesn't get this song either. And I'm like, girl, you gotta wake up.
[42:39] Emily: There's nothing we could do for her.
[42:40] Abby: Me and Jenna are kind of in tune. Me and Jenna are in tune for real because I don't know. I think it's a really fun song.
[42:50] Emily: Yeah.
[42:50] Abby: This is how y'all probably feel about "The Boy Is Mine." This is like the opposite version where you guys are pleading and begging. Why don't you understand "Run Joey Run" or whatever the fuck this is called?
[43:00] Emily: What is it called?
[43:01] Abby: You know what it's called.
[43:01] Emily: I'm not going to teach your boyfriend how to dance. Don't play dumb.
[43:05] Abby: No, but I listen. Whatever the fuck this is called. So this is probably what's happening here. But it's just it's just it's a good song. Yeah, I don't understand the hype. Like, he's not even doing backflips like where he's doing the Disney knees. He basically is. Yeah, he almost did. I don't know. Yeah, Abby, you stepped into that one. Me and Emily were like ready to be like, actually, he's doing the Disney knees. The Disney knees are easy peasy. Like they're not even like he's not. You didn't even gag with the Disney knees. No, he I feel like he did gag with the Disney knees. I think it's funny. Okay, maybe he gagged. Maybe he gigged. He gigged. He gagged. I'm not even a Blaine girl, but like this number is so fun. It's like definitely one of my favorite Blaine songs. It's really, really perfect. And also like, I love like Tina and Britney doing like the shoulder thing like dance, dance, dance, dance. They're into it. They're really into it.
[44:05] Emily: They're so into it. Yeah. Perfect. Um, anything final that we want that we need to say about this song? Finn consistently does not know how to act out prom. He's just he just loves ruining shit. Like always trying to be if it's prom time, time to act up. The literal only notes I have other than this, which is I guess is why I don't really give a fuck about the songs that there's so much good shit happening. Like Finn's so fucking annoying. Like Finn, you literally you broke up with Rachel rightfully so because she did cheat on you. Yeah, like get out of my face. Duh. Okay. But now you can't keep going flip flopping like she's trying to get her little time in with Jesse. They feeling each other on the dance floor.
Now you're coming in cock blocking. Don't piss me off. Like, just be like, please like you're annoying me. Quinn is right there. Enjoy your day. Beautiful. Enjoy your day. Enjoy the most beautiful girl alive. Literally. Um, you're ruining everything. Everything. And it got cut off before. Um, before like the line like where Quinn's like, we're nominated for King and Queen. And then Sue says sucks for you, sister. It's so good. Sucks for you, sister. We're shoeing. We're shoeing. Yes. It's just it's really, really great.
[45:31] Abby: Um, okay. Are we ready to see what it's against? I'm scared. I'm scared too. I don't care. I don't care. But I think it's gonna be fun. Yeah, see, it's gonna be fun. Wait, what do you think my face said? Your face said, probably gonna make it probably gonna be fine. Oh, I also have I'm also a firm believer. This is what I think I forgot to say. I'm a firm believer that I don't think a solo should win the black it. I totally agree. It has to be a group number. And yeah, um, you're gonna be eating your words because this is a group number. And famously is against a solo a bolo even. We're getting middle thumbnail. Oh, marry you. Okay. Yeah. I could cry. So cute. I was gonna say I was gonna cry. I'm literally there's a video just to show us. I didn't think that would get me. That was powerful. That really was I didn't know that was happening. I honestly same. Wow. Oh my god. I've just take a second. I've never felt strongly about that song.
[46:52] Emily: But I feel like I didn't either. I feel like I really thought through a new lens. I've always felt emotionally tied to this song a little bit. Oh, okay. Stop. You have to be contrary in this episode. You guys are crazy. Even though you're the one that turned on your camera to show us the tears. No, cuz look. Okay, let me start off. Let's start off. Yeah. This episode in general is just mad emo. Like look, it's Kurt getting his ass kicked. Finn's not being a great brother. It's like really downplaying the entire thing going on with Kurt. But yeah, he's getting his ass kicked. He's getting his ass kicked. Kurowski is bullying this boy up and down the wazoo. It's getting really crazy. Like, it's really bad for him.
And then we have this fucking proposal. First of all, they all look I love the colors. They all look so good. They all look so happy. I'm a little bit it's like, why did they give Kurt a solo at his own dad's, you know, wedding, which is weird. He should have a moment to sing in the sun, but whatever. It's fine. Who cares? He's probably too sad to sing anyways, realistically. But whatever. Um, I just love it. Like, uh, like just seeing Oh, my God. Cory. Oh, my boy. He's just eating down. His vocals sound so good. He's just Oh, he's just he's so you know, and they all look so happy. Like, it just made me feel like I was transported to like watching it for the first time like seeing these look at them be here the police.
[48:14] Abby: They all like when we record they don't like Riverdale. But like, it just made me feel like wow, this is glee. Like this is the glee club. Just seeing together having a blast. Other things that I was thinking about is like the behind the scenes photos from the shoot. We're on the swing. I was thinking about like, whoa, like, the glee club was family but also the glee cast was also family not to be sour social but like, wow, that was really powerful. That was really powerful for me. Yet back in the day. And then I also was thinking about how nice said in her book that during when shooting this everybody was like, Oh, my God, your boobs look so good. And I was like, every time I watch it, I'm like, they do look like during like sway where she's like, kind of like me.
Yes, there we go. Thank you. Yeah, I can't actually get the shimmy. And then I also thought about how nice that she hated she hates the song now because of this performance because she said on her podcast with on Heather's podcast. She doesn't like she doesn't like marry you. Like what's the trend that there's a what the dance trend that you would like, remove or get rid of? And then she's like, marry you. And then like, I was like, Oh my god, but we did that on the show. And she's like, Yeah, that's probably why I don't like it.
[49:27] Emily: So that was a trend. It was like, Oh, wait, why do I feel like it was like the office? The office had like an episode where they did like a similar thing, where they all like came out. Same song. Not the same song. Let me let me find out. And then like, and then I think it was like it was like a YouTube trend of like, either recreating that one or like they did a different. Let me see. The move they did at the end was it reminded me of like Soulja Boy. Like wasn't that a thing? The Soulja Boy move? You know, moving at the speed of light into intensity. Tonight is the night. What song is that? I don't I don't think I know that. I could take you there. I could take you there. Don't be you on the dance floor.
Yeah, me you in the dance floor. That's what they did on the office. I think this was a trend for like people to propose to people like oh, it was like a like flash mob type of like, oh, like, proposal, whatever from what I could gather from what she was saying. But yeah, that's all I could think about. But yeah, this was really cute. And I love them together. I love them all. That was like, it felt so family. That's why I felt very emotionally tied to it just now.
[50:38] Abby: Oh my god. And it's just like, like, okay, so like, I went through an entire like journey while watching this performance just now because I've always like held the belief Okay, obviously, like this is the peak Gleek wedding that like it they start at such a peak that it's like impossible for either of the WEMA weddings if you can even count the season four finale when they get married in the choir room. Insane. And then also the double gay wedding in season six flop. This is so fucking good. And I was like, wait, why? Why is it so good? And it's like, because I think that like Beryl as a ship, Bert and Carol, best ship of this of this series, we can make arguments, Finchel versus Clayne, Clayne versus Britannia, we can, we can even have a we can even hear from the WEMA representatives.
But like Beryl, like consistently argue with the wall. Beryl, this is the ship of all ships. Like, who's gonna argue with that? No one can argue with that. No, no one can say that they were like toxic. Right? I mean, you can't I mean, what did we see? We just don't have, you know, I will say, I will say Carol does have some toxic traits. What? Not toxic per se, but like a, like when Finn and then when Finn was like, yo, what the fuck you're moving in mad fast, like what's going on? Like, it's just moving like really fast. I really, I really understood him. Because I feel like she wasn't really taking a lot of his point of view into consideration when it came to like, you know, we're moving in and now you have a view. Am I am I am I bugging? No. But either way, Beryl is cute. Beryl is cute.
[52:56] Emily: You also like, need to recall that it's literally in the Glee lore in the first 45 minutes of this series that we learn that Carol has been like consistently unlucky in love. So it's like, that's true for her to like, find a man that actually like, is not a fucking loser. And that is like, kind, you know, like, that is like, it's so yeah, honestly, I would do the same thing Carol, like, I'd be like, Yeah, move in. We're moving in. I get it. Yeah, she's holding on to that man tight. You know, that meme of like, the guy holding this squeezing the fucking sandwich. Like, let it go. It's not going anywhere. Yeah, literally, you let go of that man for one second. I'm taking him.
[53:25] Abby: Also, I want to point out I'm sharing my screen again, because I want to show you um, the priest. The priest in this- He's hot, right? He's so fucking hot. Oh, I was gonna say it, but I didn't know. I was like, wow, like, he's like, okay, where did they find him? Like, he like, why did they put a distractingly sexy priest in this episode? And his voice is hot, too. Yeah, like, yeah, I remember his voice, but he can leave the priesthood for me. I joined the priesthood for him, I don't know. Honestly, me, Burt, and the priest, we're going- we just booked our trip to Paris. Conclave looks different this year. Um, what else do we have to say about Maryu? Um, I love the pairings. Yeah. So cute. Brittany and Artie sound so good together, actually.
Like, is this the only time they sing together? No, they sing for, um, New Directions, Christmastime. Do they know it's Christmastime at all? They're paired together. Abby! Oh, see, I wouldn't know that. I need- I need to tell you, they actually canonically do have a duet. They do? They do. Wait, is it My Cup? It is My Cup. Oh, My Cup, yeah. Oh, yeah, true, true, true. I love My Cup. I wanted to say that in the beginning. I forgot. My Cup. That's such a- like, literally, anytime I hear the phrase My- anyone says My Cup, I just start singing that song. Like, always. It's so catchy. It's actually, like, perfect. Yeah. In my head, that's a Brittany solo. Yeah. Yeah. But even though it's not. Well, like, wait, what does Kevin do in that song?
I'm forgetting. He sings harmony with her for chorus. But it's kind of like- but do you guys think that, um, I don't know if I've talked about this on here before, but I've definitely argued it before with people. Do you guys think that Roots Before Branches is a solo or a duet? Solo. MP3 is different than MP4. This is- it's a really- you're asking a really large question. That's a really large- okay, so MP4. MP4 is a rolo. MP4 is with the video, right? Yeah. Okay, the MP3 is a duet. Yes. Okay, that's fair. Okay. I'm glad we got that settled. I'm- finally. People were asking. Like, what is this? I'm not sure what- what bucket to put this in. Um, okay. So, Maryu, final things that we need to say?
Just so good. Um, yeah, I love how they're all paired up. And yeah, I love how they're all paired up. And like, I noticed that like, Puck and Santana don't actually sing in this song. So it's like, kind of funny how they're kind of like, hidden between Arty and Bri- like, they're hidden behind Arty and Bri when they come out. Like, you don't really see them. They're just like, hanging out. But their presence is so large. Yeah. Jenna and Harry went into the studio for this. Yeah. Yeah. Like, they put Harry in the studio, which makes me believe that maybe- maybe like, Santana and- maybe like, Nai and Mark weren't available. You know, like, they really- do you know what I mean? No disrespect, but it's like- They were like, we'll just, like, hang out in the background in this number and then dance. Or maybe it's like another- another, uh, situation where Mark is like, I really want to come into the studio. And they're like, actually, no, it's fine. Spray it with water. Out! Get out!
[57:01] Abby: Um, okay. So, do we- I thought this would be an easy vote. But now that the time has come to vote. You thought it would be an easy vote in which direction? Uh, for the promo. Girl, you know where. I don't. The final curtain. I'm not going first. This is, like, really- it's a lot harder than I thought. Andrew, I agree.
[57:26] Abby: I also thought I was gonna vote for the bolo. I state my case. But like, I... Abby, do you wanna just finish the song? Do you wanna just, like, we'll take an intermission and just hear you sing this song? I just wanna build up the tension. I don't want to make you guys fuckin' nervous. Of which I'm certain. Wait, you're not going first, but you're sure you're certain of your vote? No, I'm absolutely not. Oh. Actually, I was. I'm only uncertain now because you guys are uncertain. No shade. Like, I was like, you know. Okay. Guys, we have to think strategically. Uh-huh. If you want both songs to go through, then you vote out fuckin' I Wanna Dance With... I really... somebody... fuck. It's got a really long title.
It's got a really long title. Like, I was that happy. I Wanna Dance With Somebody. I'm not gonna teach your boyfriend to dance. You vote that out because the people are gonna vote it back in anyways. And then you get to keep both. People are not gonna vote back Marry You. You're so funny. It's true. They're not gonna vote back Marry You. I personally don't think either of these are, like, super, like, strong contenders for being voted back. Like, it depends what they're against. There's some huge songs left. People love this song. You don't think Lena... I mean, Lena, yes. Lena... Alison's gonna come and write it too because this is her favorite blowout. No, that's Summer Only We Know, isn't it?
Yeah. But I think that... Summer Only We Know sometimes. Yeah. No, I don't like playing with the glockenspiel. Like, I know that, like, you're joking, I think, about, like, doing this, like, kind of, like, mind game with the Gleeks of, like, okay, so if we vote out this song, then this song will get... will for sure get voted. So we can keep both. Or maybe this is my master plan for you guys to not vote for this song just so it could be out and give you guys the false comfort that it'll be voted back in. It's not working. I'm not buying it. I will say, okay, so what we were saying earlier is that, like, yes, we all believe that, like, a solo will not win the Glackett. I agree. Yeah. And we're looking at a solo versus a group number.
We are. And so, yes, Marry You does satisfy more of winning qualities in that regard. But, like, I'm not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance with you. I, like, just like more as a song. Like, yeah, Marry You may, like, encapsulate what the show is more. And it's like, that's family. And all that. But, like, I can't turn my back on, on this Lolo that I'm obsessed with. I'm gonna make it easy for you guys. I'm gonna make it easy. I'm gonna go first, can cast my vote. Because I was actually sure about what I was gonna vote for. I was gonna always vote for, after seeing this, even though I love Fert and I love Marry You, I was gonna vote for, yeah, I'm not gonna. I know y'all were scared. Y'all were mad scared.
Uh-uh-uh. She's a contrarian. She's a this, she's a that. But do I, I'm sure there are more group songs than Lolo's left. And I don't even think this is the best group song. And I don't think it will win against something else. I'm gonna put, I'm saying, I'm putting in songs that I think have the power to beat other songs. And this might bite me in the ass. This, this song might go and take out a Santana solo later on. And I might want to shoot myself. But I think that I'm gonna go for, Ange, are you okay?
[1:00:56] Andrew: No, I, I hope this isn't like coming through my recording, but it sounds like someone is like shoveling snow right outside. But like, I'm on the 12th floor.
[1:01:10] Abby: Is it even snowing?
[1:01:11] Andrew: No, it's not snowing. But it's like, you know what sound that is of like a shovel being like dry? Yeah. Like, what is happening?
[1:01:22] Abby: I can't hear it.
[1:01:24] Andrew: Continue.
[1:01:25] Abby: You're voting for not Mary.
[1:01:27] Andrew: Yeah, so yeah, I'm gonna, I'm not gonna vote for Mary. I'm gonna put in the Blaine solo here because I think, I think I'm also doing this because I know a lot of people love this, this song. I think it's representative of a lot of people, a lot of the gleeks, you know, not just thinking about myself, but thinking about a lot of the gleeks. And yeah, I think it is a fun song. I think storyline wise, I mean, they're both so strong storyline wise. But yeah, that's where my vote was gonna go. So I feel like I'm good. This is me giving you permission that you guys can vote for the blow low.
[1:01:57] Emily: I'm shocked. Like, I really thought you were voting for Mary U.
[1:01:59] Andrew: Maybe I should have maybe I'll change it after you guys say the blow low and I'll give it a sympathy.
[1:02:04] Abby: Oh, you're assuming that both of us are voting for the blow low? We could do that.
[1:02:12] Emily: Oh, I didn't realize we could do that. Abby, wait, so I'm sorry that the snow thing really distracted me.
[1:02:24] Abby: It really threw you off.
[1:02:25] Emily: That really threw me off. Abby voted for I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend. Emily, you have not voted.
[1:02:30] Emily: I've not voted. Okay. Um, I think that like, yes, I agree. Solo's not gonna win the glocket. But this is round three. If we were farther along and we had this competition, I might favor the group number. But I'm just like, I'm hearing the gleeks right now. And they're like, Emily is not voting for the better song here. And like, but like you do like I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend how to dance with you more than Mary U. Yes.
[1:02:59] Abby: I don't. Mary U is a cute song and I prefer the glee version to the original. But like, I don't know. Like it just like doesn't. It's not as good as so many other group numbers. Like if we're gonna have a group number, we don't need this one in my opinion. Like it is not winning the glocket.
[1:03:18] Andrew: We're saying like Paradise by the Dashboard Light versus I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend how to dance with you. We could have that conversation.
[1:03:22] Abby: That would be a yeah. I mean, that would be a no brainer. No brainer. Yeah. But Mary U is not like a juggernaut of a song to me.
[1:03:31] Emily: It's like them. It's like a good it's a good group. I think it's because of the context of in which it takes place because it's about like Barrow. It's more about Barrow than it is about the glee club. So I feel like if the context was a little bit different and be different, you know, whatever. But I do think that the more I because you know, I take iconicism very, very seriously, like which performance is more iconic. And I do think Blaine's performance is more iconic.
[1:04:00] Abby: Prom Queen as an episode.
[1:04:00] Emily: Prom Queen. Yeah, we got it. Yeah. Prom Queen. It's just like everything with I'm not I feel like I'm going insane, like trying to justify that I do.
[1:04:10] Abby: People are gonna be mad about this.
[1:04:11] Emily: Yeah.
[1:04:13] Abby: I mean, people are gonna jump you for this.
[1:04:13] Emily: But I know I've known since the beginning, if Mary U threw me threw me off for a little bit there. But I knew from the beginning, I wanted to teach your boyfriend how to dance with you.
[1:04:24] Andrew: You know, I think the fact that I even second guess myself shows that Mary U is like powerful. So like, I'm paying my respects to Mary U. Don't deny that. But yeah, at the end of the day, come on, I'm voting. I'm not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance with you.
[1:04:43] Abby: Another blow goes through.
[1:04:44] Emily: Another blow goes through. I'll also do the blow low vote. Yeah. Not even a pity vote for Mary U.
[1:04:50] Abby: Gotta stand two feet down.
[1:04:53] Andrew: I mean, it's arguably his best solo. I mean, it's between that and Cough Syrup. So.
[1:04:59] Emily: It's just oh my god. I have like non-Gleek friends that are like, they've been made aware of I'm not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance with you.
[1:05:07] Abby: Yeah, they don't know the original. They only know the Glee version.
[1:05:10] Emily: They only know the Glee version. And they're like, wait, actually, this is so good. Like that's the only Glee song that they listen to.
[1:05:16] Abby: So that's powerful.
[1:05:17] Emily: That's powerful. That's powerful stuff right there. Okay, one more competition. What do we think?
[1:05:24] Abby: I could do that.
[1:05:25] Emily: Okay, fine.
[1:05:26] Abby: Are you down?
[1:05:27] Emily: You're welcome, Lena.
[1:05:28] Abby: Are you down? What's up? Yeah, really. I love it. I have a Lena. Love you, girl. It was mostly for Lena. I was doing this. A lot of this was for Miss Lena Canatter. Like I love it when things go down. I really do.
[1:05:41] Abby: We played in her face for a little bit there, though.
[1:05:43] Emily: We did. I know she was shaking her boots. I was like, oh. Sorry, girl. We controlled it. We controlled it real nicely.
[1:05:53] Abby: This is something. I'm glad that we're going to have this conversation about this song because I feel like the other two times that we've pulled it in the glock at it. We need to have a discussion about this song. I'm ready to kind of open this can of worms.
[1:06:10] Emily: Boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop.
[1:06:13] Abby: Me when I'm a robot.
[1:06:17] Emily: I want to say Beryl ship name. Also a ship name in Riverdale.
[1:06:22] Abby: Really?
[1:06:23] Emily: I mean, Abby coined it, right?
[1:06:26] Abby: Wait, who is it?
[1:06:27] Emily: Oh my God. Betty and Cheryl.
[1:06:31] Abby: It's very not a lot. It's illegal. It's an illegal ship.
[1:06:35] Emily: It's illegal.
[1:06:36] Abby: Because they're technically related.
[1:06:37] Emily: Yeah.
[1:06:38] Abby: We're looking at Mercedes.
[1:06:41] Emily: Oh, I'm really happy we pulled this song.
[1:06:44] Abby: I'm not getting married today.
[1:06:45] Emily: It's getting married today. Yes, here we go.
[1:06:48] Abby: Wow.
[1:06:49] Emily: It's the wedding episode of Gleek the Week.
[1:06:52] Abby: Really?
[1:06:53] Emily: Oh my God, it is.
[1:06:54] Abby: It really is.
[1:06:55] Emily: Wow.
[1:06:56] Abby: Oh shit.
[1:06:57] Emily: Did we get the only two wedding songs left?
[1:06:59] Abby: We could have.
[1:07:00] Emily: There's none from the season six one. I know that.
[1:07:03] Abby: Yeah.
[1:07:04] Emily: That might have. Wow.
[1:07:06] Abby: It's the death of the weddings.
[1:07:10] Emily: Wait.
[1:07:14] Abby: I love this.
[1:07:15] Emily: Not so fast.
[1:07:16] Abby: I was kidding.
[1:07:17] Emily: I was thinking about Marry You.
[1:07:19] Abby: That's why I was like, oh, death of the wedding because we killed one.
[1:07:22] Emily: Okay, we killed one.
[1:07:23] Abby: But this one.
[1:07:24] Emily: No, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:07:26] Abby: Wait, Abby, I'm really scared.
[1:07:28] Emily: What do you actually think of this performance?
[1:07:30] Abby: I don't know.
[1:07:31] Emily: I have to see what comes up next.
[1:07:32] Abby: I don't really have strong feelings about this one.
[1:07:34] Emily: I'm very impressed by her rap abilities.
[1:07:37] Abby: And I do wonder, like, how many takes did it take? But this song is not my favorite song.
[1:07:43] Emily: But I do love everyone in it.
[1:07:45] Abby: Not off to a great start.
[1:07:47] Emily: Not off to a great start at all.
[1:07:49] Abby: I'm really, wow, I feel terrible.
[1:07:52] Emily: This episode.
[1:07:53] Abby: I'm really not.
[1:07:54] Emily: Andrew, do you like this song a lot?
[1:07:57] Andrew: I think that's so fun.
[1:07:58] Emily: Oh my God. At the end, when they all look at the camera, it's like so campy. Also, Puck is such a jump scare.
[1:08:04] Abby: Oh my God, jump scare.
[1:08:05] Emily: I literally wrote that down.
[1:08:06] Abby: I hated that.
[1:08:07] Emily: Oh my God. And I hate his beard and his hair.
[1:08:09] Abby: Oh my God.
[1:08:10] Emily: It's like really just put up.
[1:08:11] Abby: Terrible.
[1:08:12] Emily: Terrible.
[1:08:13] Abby: Amber Riley sounds so good in this.
[1:08:16] Emily: Oh my God.
[1:08:17] Abby: Do you remember?
[1:08:18] Emily: Do you remember?
[1:08:19] Abby: Okay. So, like, when I remember, the songs would come out before the episode would. So, like, it was like maybe like first listen Fridays. I'm not sure if this season was a first listen Friday. It was, like, different depending on the season. But it came out at night. And then the next morning, people were, like, tweeting when they were like, that's not it. That can't be Amber Riley on the track. It says Amber Riley, but it's not Amber Riley. And then Amber Riley was like, I trust I can do that. And that is my voice.
[1:09:01] Emily: So, who were they saying it was?
[1:09:02] Abby: I don't know who they said, like, who they were, like, claiming it was.
[1:09:06] Emily: Like a random person?
[1:09:07] Abby: Surely it can't be Amber.
[1:09:09] Emily: That was her audition for Glenda.
[1:09:10] Abby: Yeah.
[1:09:12] Emily: Yeah.
[1:09:13] Abby: Which is crazy.
[1:09:14] Emily: Like, she can literally, that's literally how she trained.
[1:09:17] Abby: Hello, you weirdos.
[1:09:18] Emily: Hello.
[1:09:19] Abby: She ate that down.
[1:09:20] Emily: We need her cover of No One Mourns the Wicked ASAP.
[1:09:22] Abby: No, she.
[1:09:24] Emily: Wait, hold on.
[1:09:25] Abby: Okay.
[1:09:26] Emily: Get into the studio.
[1:09:28] Abby: You did that amazingly.
[1:09:31] Emily: No One Mourns the Wicked, really quick.
[1:09:34] Abby: I, like, that song was not on my radar before the movie.
[1:09:37] Emily: I feel the exact same way.
[1:09:39] Abby: Yeah, same.
[1:09:40] Emily: I remember, like, going into the theater and being like, okay, like, we just got to get through the first number. The first number is like, adult. It's so, like, expositional, you know? We don't really care. Like, but the movie version, I was like, wait a minute. This is the song.
[1:09:52] Abby: That was the song on repeat for me.
[1:09:54] Emily: Ariana Grande was acting down.
[1:09:56] Abby: Why?
[1:09:57] Emily: She put in the work.
[1:09:58] Abby: She said, I'm going to, you know, train for months before I even get an audition. I'm going to stalk everybody so I can get an audition.
[1:10:02] Emily: What was that?
[1:10:06] Abby: I know that you would know this, Abby.
[1:10:08] Emily: Okay.
[1:10:09] Abby: When she was, like, talking about, like, Kelly Clarkson finding out that she booked Wicked. And then she was like, Kelly was like, wait, why does the, why does the voice studio need to be so cold or something?
[1:10:15] Emily: Yeah.
[1:10:16] Abby: It was, like, really, really hot.
[1:10:17] Emily: Yeah.
[1:10:18] Abby: And it's usually cold.
[1:10:19] Emily: Yeah.
[1:10:20] Abby: And then I think Blake Shelton was like, why is it so, Shelton was like, why is it so hot in here? And then she's like, oh my God, guys, I'm really sorry. I have an audition tomorrow. And I get to sing opera.
[1:10:26] Emily: I get to sing opera actually.
[1:10:28] Abby: That's really funny.
[1:10:30] Emily: And that's, that's, but no one was, I'm going to be honest, like, when it comes to Wicked, and I had seen the, I had seen the musical in person. I left, I wasn't like, I'm going to go stream any of these songs. The movie was like, okay, let me go stream every single song. Like, I'm listening to, um, oh my God, why am I forgetting the name? Uh, the, the, the goat. What's the goat song?
[1:11:01] Abby: Something Bad.
[1:11:02] Emily: Something Bad.
[1:11:03] Abby: Something Bad.
[1:11:04] Emily: Like, I'm still, like, listening to, I'm like, if I don't want to touch my phone, I'll listen to it.
[1:11:09] Abby: Right.
[1:11:10] Emily: Like, if I don't touch my phone.
[1:11:12] Abby: I mean, if I don't touch my phone.
[1:11:14] Emily: If my hands are wet.
[1:11:15] Abby: If my hands are wet, I'll listen to it.
[1:11:18] Emily: Like, I'll have fun.
[1:11:20] Abby: I'll be the leopard for a minute.
[1:11:22] Emily: Yeah.
[1:11:24] Abby: It's a sentimental man.
[1:11:25] Emily: Yeah.
[1:11:26] Abby: Fine.
[1:11:27] Emily: I'm a sentimental man.
[1:11:28] Abby: No, like the movie, I honestly think the movie has the better song versions.
[1:11:33] Emily: Yeah.
[1:11:34] Abby: Yeah, I never, I never felt, I mean, I was a Wicked fan since I was like a kid, but like, I never felt any sort of way about No One Mourns the Wicked until I saw it in the movie. And now I'm like, why is this song like the most devastating song of all time?
[1:11:48] Abby: It feels like I watched a child gain consciousness. Oh, I saw the grown man like really but he texted me because he's like in my family the second biggest Wicked fan because he like actually likes musicals. He texts me this long-ass fucking paragraph about "No One Mourns the Wicked." He literally told me he spent the whole summer not digesting any Wicked content, not digesting any Wicked music. He used to listen to it on loop. Yeah, just so that when he gets back into it, it can really hit him like a brick wall and he can jump into the hyper fixation even worse than like it was before. So now he's looking at these songs with a critical lens and he types out this fucking long-ass paragraph. I'm gonna read it, please, and then we will discuss "Getting Married Today."
Yes, we will. Um, he sends me a picture of like one of the clips of uh, like one of the lines like uh, "I'll live a lot, bye-bye. I'll live a lot." Whatever she goes, meaning she knows that the song she's singing is a lie and the memory of Elphaba will go on in infamy, but she's gonna try and outlive the life for their friendship's sake. Also, the people are singing the song with Glinda, but Glinda is singing to Elphaba like they've always have throughout the music, the movie. It's just that now Elphaba can't respond back to her. I was like, first of all, who taught you Elfy? Does he know about Glelfy? Gelfy? I don't think he knows that he's a Gelfy. He's just a straight man who doesn't like, he like he doesn't give a fuck about Fierro and Elphaba.
He doesn't care. He was tuned out. Actually, he said it broke his awareness when "Dancing Through Life" came. He was like, oh, I remember I'm in a movie theater now, but I don't think he understands that he is secretly a Gelfy. I don't think he gets it because he kept on writing paragraphs and I was like, tell me you're a Gelfy without telling me you're a Gelfy. Tell me you're a Gelfy. But I do need to hear Mercedes do "No One Mourns the Wicked." Bring it back. Thank you. Yes.
[1:13:45] Emily: Okay, you're streaming "Getting Married Today." You're liking it?
[1:13:51] Abby: Yeah, it's really fun. Um, I'm not like, it's mostly for the Emma part of it though. Like I don't really care about Will's parts.
[1:14:01] Emily: It adds the drama.
[1:14:02] Abby: I like it. It does, it does. Yeah, it really gave me his Broadway roots. I was like, oh, Matthew's, yeah, like that room came, he came to put his foot down and say I remember where I came from. I love the part of the MP4. It's like, it's kind of like a "Summer Nights" thing where his face was like overlaid a shot. I love that. I'm obsessed.
[1:14:23] Emily: I feel like, okay, the reason I was really excited to talk about this number with you because I feel like the two other times that we've talked about "Getting Married Today" on this podcast, it was very early on, Allison and I with a non-Gleek guest, and so like we really couldn't like get into the intricacies of "Getting Married Today." And then in round two, it was Connor and I and Lauren Potter, and so we couldn't get into the intricacies of like we couldn't have like a "No One Mourns the Wicked" kind of, um, and she's on the clock. She's on the clock. We have a tight hour with Lauren part time. Um, but like I'm like so excited to talk about this number because like, yeah, like you're saying that shot of like Jayma Mays running toward camera, camera's up and then um, it's like on location and then you have the shot of Matthew Morrison like looking off it just like put on top of it. Like the entire thing is giving budget. The entire thing is giving like such a thought out idea that I'm so glad was executed.
[1:15:36] Emily: It's really campy, it's so campy. Like everybody knew the assignment, everybody on set that day.
[1:15:42] Abby: It's a good performance. I just don't, the song, like the MP3, I'm not, yeah, I understand. The MP4 is really good. It's like really fun and Finn makes this face that's been turned into a gif that people use on Glee Twitter.
[1:15:54] Emily: Oh, yeah.
[1:15:56] Abby: And I was like, oh my god, it's the truth. There's the game.
[1:15:59] Emily: Yeah, um, this episode was directed by Brad Falchuk and, oh.
[1:16:04] Abby: That actually, actually, yeah, there we go. Um, what's up?
[1:16:08] Emily: Yeah, I just, I love this episode. It's so good. I remember like, so this aired on Valentine's Day 2013 and I remember like my sister called me for something after the episode aired and just like check in, which was something that she was not doing at the time and she was like, so what's going on? I was like, oh well, um, Glee was on tonight and she like wanted to know. She was like, how was it? And like I remember being like, I can't get into it. Like so much you would not believe "Getting Married Today." Like you would, I can't actually even get into what happened on tonight's episode because you don't actually want to know. Um, but I don't know that's the, that's what's coming up when I think about like watching this episode live.
[1:17:03] Abby: Um, I've actually, I've never thought about the gag. It must have been to be like, oh they're not getting married because like you see that journey of like, like of episode, was it? Were people in season three, episode 10? Yes, and no, the swimming pool. Yeah, and then it's just like, okay, they spent this whole year engaged, then all of a sudden Will's gone, then Emma, Finn kisses Emma.
[1:17:14] Emily: Oh god, I was like, yeah, it's a lot. It was a lot. There's a lot going on and yet nobody gave a fuck.
[1:17:20] Abby: Um, yeah.
[1:17:23] Emily: It was crazy that they were like, they were doing so much shit with Wema that it was like, look around, nobody cares.
[1:17:31] Abby: Nobody cares. I was, I was gagged by this episode for another reason which like, I'm so glad we pulled this song because I have a story about this episode, please. Um, Quintana was huge for lesbians back in the day. Like, okay, I broke my foot. This was like junior year. I know this sounds crazy, I promise it's related to broken foot.
[1:18:06] Abby: Yeah, yeah, I promise it's related. Um, like junior year of high school I broke my foot. This episode aired, it was such a fucking big deal. Wait, everybody was talking about it. I'm 28.
[1:18:10] Emily: Yeah, I'm 29. For some reason I thought you were so much younger. I'm just so youthful.
[1:18:14] Abby: Face card.
[1:18:15] Emily: Purr, never aging, purr.
[1:18:18] Abby: Yeah, um, how old do you think I am, Andy? You're looking at the letter A.
[1:18:21] Emily: Can't see shit.
[1:18:23] Abby: Your camera's off. How old do you think I am? Um, I feel like I know that you, you are younger. I think that like you're 24, 25.
[1:18:33] Abby: Oh my god, you know my age. Aww.
[1:18:36] Emily: I feel so loved and seen by you.
[1:18:41] Abby: 24. Yeah, 24. Okay, got it. Um, okay, this was like such a big, it was like, I don't know if I can explain to people who didn't watch Glee at the time like, it was shocking that Quinn and Santana slept together. It was so shocking. Like, still to this day when I think about it, I like forget and I'm like, oh my god that happened. Like it's crazy.
[1:19:03] Emily: It is crazy. I totally understand what you mean where it's like, it's almost like so part of the lore, but then it's like actually when you don't think about it, it's like, oh wait, those characters did canonically have sex.
[1:19:08] Abby: Do you remember because they like don't bring it up after that basically?
[1:19:12] Emily: Yeah, so it's like you forget about it. Do you remember he says and Quinn, which had sex with a Latino lesbian, right?
[1:19:17] Abby: The only time that they reference it, right?
[1:19:20] Emily: Oh, do you remember like the spoiler revealing that like yes, they were going to have sex but no they were not going to kiss?
[1:19:28] Abby: Vaguely, I remember like finding that out. Like how does that make any sense?
[1:19:34] Emily: They should have just had them kiss. I'm still pissed to this day. Release the footage.
[1:19:38] Abby: What the fuck do you mean? Like, and the thing is that they end off like, because I'm sure Diana would have been down. I'm sure Naya, oh, I'm sure they've kissed already. This is nothing new to them. I'm like, I don't understand why they just let them kiss. Like we've seen Brittany and Tina kiss.
[1:19:54] Emily: They already had gay kissing in that episode.
[1:19:56] Abby: They matched with their gay kissing. They matched their gay kiss. Slay. Okay, well, but like, they already reached their quota.
[1:20:05] Emily: Yeah, that shit's so good. That's such good food, Quintana in that episode.
[1:20:12] Abby: Like, yeah, yeah, they're, wait, Andy, as someone who's a Britannia shipper and then you saw Quintana get to where you like, ill, like, oh my god, like no, like, oh, Britannia. Um, I was like really mad at that time about like Brittany and Sam, so I was just like, I like, I can't, she should do what she wants to do at that point.
[1:20:29] Emily: Like, yeah, like it's like, yeah, it's not her fault that like Brittany and Sam are being fucking stupid and annoying.
[1:20:36] Abby: Yeah, you know, I was happy that Santana was like hooking up with someone because I was so mad about Brittany and Sam.
[1:20:41] Emily: Yeah.
[1:20:42] Abby: Basically, and also like, it did like validate that like she does like blonde girls.
[1:20:49] Emily: I was like, oh, yeah.
[1:20:52] Abby: The lore of like her sleeping with both the unholy, like the unholy trinity, like having that, what do they call it? Like Eskimo brothers or whatever?
[1:21:02] Emily: Yeah.
[1:21:03] Abby: Like that's so fun to me. Do you think, do you think like Brittany ever brought it up to Quinn? Like, so like, you know, like do you think?
[1:21:06] Emily: I like to imagine that conversation.
[1:21:11] Abby: Yeah.
[1:21:12] Emily: How does Brittany go to the wedding because she was secretly in love with Santana and Brittany knew that, so she sent Quinn the wrong date of the wedding and so I can't even have fun with why let's not go that far at that wedding because like, like literally the only thing that's coming to mind right now is because like it's Diana Agron's like schedule. She just didn't want to do it.
[1:21:29] Abby: I can't even like provide it in university, you know?
[1:21:35] Emily: Yeah, for sure, that's fair. You're traumatized.
[1:21:44] Abby: But Quintana was such a big deal. Like this was such a monumental thing.
[1:21:48] Emily: Yeah, like I said, I had a broken foot.
[1:21:50] Abby: I had a cast on for two weeks. One of my friends signed my cast and they wrote "Quintana had sex" in parentheses twice and then they signed their name.
[1:21:58] Emily: Okay, and I think I have a picture of it that I can send to you.
[1:22:00] Abby: Oh, please, it's really important.
[1:22:05] Emily: Twice was really important.
[1:22:08] Abby: They did, they, she put down the water bottle.
[1:22:11] Emily: Yeah, yeah.
[1:22:15] Abby: Because once it's like, oh we had fun, twice it's like we had fun and I want it again.
[1:22:18] Emily: Yeah, the post-op clarity was like wait, actually I did like it.
[1:22:25] Abby: It was so contradictory because they were like, Quinn was like, yeah, so I'm definitely straight, but also let's do it again. Like that was just fucking lying. She just says anything. You can't take her out of like, okay, but it was, it was just like so that episode is so, I do, as an episode is so packed and so fun that like they cover so much ground that it's crazy to think that like Artie has a plot in this episode, you know? It's like this is, it definitely should not, like Artie should not have anything to do in this episode or Tina for that matter, but there they are actually having things to like chew on.
[1:23:10] Abby: But yeah, yeah, that's why some people, I have like friends that don't like it for that reason, like people who are like diehard Faberi people and they're like, oh, it basically feels like they're like mocking them by being like actually Quinn's not gay, see, because we had her say it. Like I know she slept with Santana, but then she said she was straight, so like shut up, you know?
[1:23:30] Emily: You're not fooling me.
[1:23:31] Abby: But like also like she goes in the second time, she goes, okay, like she's right.
[1:23:36] Emily: It makes no sense. She's hungry.
[1:23:39] Abby: She's hungry.
[1:23:41] Emily: Um, but like it's crazy to me that they were like, the writers playing in our face being like, oh, I know that the fandom likes the idea that Quinn is gay and we are going to give it, we're going to give gay Quinn not in the way that they want it.
[1:23:41] Emily: Aka gay.
[1:23:44] Abby: Hungry. Honestly, I feel like, do you guys subscribe to Quinn? I said I started to subscribe to Quintana like I don't know like two, three years ago and I was like this shit, this is good food.
[1:23:54] Emily: This is, I like, I like, there's so much to eat.
[1:23:57] Abby: It's not necessarily romantically, but I just like their dynamic in general. I think it's really fun. They play a lot. A lot of people think they wouldn't make sense, they wouldn't last because, oh, they all they do is fight, but they always, they were fighting the most when they were at their most insecure, but when they're like fine, like they're fine. It's like they slap each other.
[1:24:12] Emily: Yeah, sure, that like the highs are so high and the lows are, it's never a dull moment.
[1:24:20] Abby: Yeah, exactly. That's why they're so fun.
[1:24:23] Emily: Um, they'd last. I love that. Like it's so impossible for us to have a conversation about the actual song at hand, I feel.
[1:24:32] Abby: Do we have anything more to say?
[1:24:35] Emily: I mean, um, Emma ate, she ate it.
[1:24:40] Abby: Um, it almost, yeah, makes me feel like they, this was just like always in the cards that they were like, okay, and then when we like, like when they were like developing season one, they didn't have anything else planned for like the future, but they're like, when Emma eventually gets married to Will, it's not actually going to be an actual wedding because she's going to sing this song. Like this is like, I feel like this was always Gay Guy Ryan Murphy's idea that like he just like always knew was going to happen, which is why I feel like it's so well executed because it's so thought out.
[1:25:19] Emily: I think honestly Jayma Mays was practicing since season one.
[1:25:23] Abby: Yeah, she was learning the lines to "Getting Married Today."
[1:25:27] Emily: You're gonna need this.
[1:25:30] Abby: Because I remember like, um, okay, so like when it got, I don't know why I remember, like I don't remember anything else except for where I was when Glee spoilers came out, but um, but when they announced "Getting Married Today" was going to be sung in this episode, um, I went to go check it out on YouTube because I did not know the song, of course, at that time when I was 17 years old, uh, and I went to the comments and like all the top comments were like, oh my god, I can't wait for like Emma to sing the song, Glee Emma to sing the song Glee, and I kept on scrolling back to before the spoiler and one of the comments was, I feel like this would be a really good song for Emma to sing on Glee. Oh my god.
[1:26:10] Abby: And I remember like everybody was commenting on me like, oh my god, this person knew, um, which I thought was so funny. But uh, yeah, it's just like when you see a tweet when like, there's a tweet that predicted. It was like from like 2019. It was like, Ariana Grande is Glinda and Cynthia Erivo is Elphaba. Wow. Mind you, Ariana was ponytail down. Yeah, Cynthia was just playing Harriet. It's like, what do they know? What do they know? Um, a whole time the comment was Ryan Murphy on his spam account.
[1:26:41] Emily: It's kind of like Emma had to run away so they could do this song.
[1:26:44] Abby: Yeah.
[1:26:45] Emily: We could not have the successful WEMA wedding.
[1:26:48] Abby: Right. It was worth it.
[1:26:51] Emily: The one in the choir room is what you're talking about?
[1:26:54] Abby: No, this one wasn't successful.
[1:26:56] Emily: Oh, but we did have a successful one in the choir room surrounded by teenagers.
[1:27:01] Abby: Yeah. I mean, I always forget about that. I mean, it's so unimpressionable. Even like the fact that like, Coach Beast isn't even there. I'm like, what are we even doing?
[1:27:11] Emily: I don't even remember that.
[1:27:13] Abby: It's like, literally, it's the final scene of season four.
[1:27:17] Emily: Wow.
[1:27:17] Abby: And then Blaine has the fucking-
[1:27:19] Emily: Yeah.
[1:27:20] Abby: That pisses me off. Like that's really, I actually do not like that Blaine proposes. I hate it with every bone in my body. It doesn't make any sense.
[1:27:28] Emily: It's so-
[1:27:29] Abby: Cosign.
[1:27:30] Emily: Yeah.
[1:27:31] Abby: Cosign.
[1:27:32] Emily: Cosign.
[1:27:32] Abby: I agreed. I agree.
[1:27:34] Emily: All in favor?
[1:27:37] Abby: I-
[1:27:38] Emily: Who wants to go to the Orlando? What's Orlando?
[1:27:41] Abby: With the little baby. She's like, me.
[1:27:43] Emily: Oh, who wants to go four seasons?
[1:27:47] Abby: Who thinks the Blaine proposal plotline is stupid?
[1:27:50] Emily: Me.
[1:27:50] Abby: I know, baby. I mean, we already went through this with Finchel. Like, let's move on.
[1:27:59] Emily: Okay. So final song of the episode, Getting Married Today. I'm rooting for you, girl. I need you to go through. I've always said this, but like, with Emma, we have, she is like, camp show tune queen because she has Toucha Toucha Touch Me and Getting Married Today, and she blows both of them out of the park. Of course, we already have Toucha Toucha Touch Me in round four. I would love for Getting Married Today to join her, but I don't know.
[1:28:31] Abby: Anyway, here.
[1:28:34] Emily: Here we go.
[1:28:35] Abby: Let's see. This is scary.
[1:28:37] Emily: It is scary.
[1:28:39] Abby: Ooh.
[1:28:41] Emily: What does that mean?
[1:28:42] Abby: Oh, he's feeling confident.
[1:28:43] Emily: No, I'm not feeling confident. I love both of these songs.
[1:28:46] Abby: He's pensive.
[1:28:47] Emily: Pensive.
[1:28:48] Abby: Oh, he's pensive.
[1:28:49] Emily: There we go.
[1:28:50] Abby: I say T-word.
[1:28:53] Emily: Okay, season three. The previous season's Valentine's Day episode. So Valentine's Day episode versus Valentine's Day episode.
[1:29:02] Abby: Oh, I love that episode. Oh, I think I know what it is.
[1:29:08] Emily: Wait, what do you think it is?
[1:29:10] Abby: Is it Cherish Cherish?
[1:29:12] Emily: It is Cherish Cherish.
[1:29:14] Abby: Oh, fuck. Another song that Andrew loves.
[1:29:16] Emily: I do. I'm obsessed. I'm not obsessed with this thumbnail. This thumbnail is crazy.
[1:29:24] Abby: Ew.
[1:29:25] Emily: I'm not gagging. I'm actually I am gagging and not the good way.
[1:29:29] Abby: The thumbnail is-
[1:29:29] Emily: We're being assaulted with Puck.
[1:29:31] Abby: Puck being kissed on both sides by women. Here we go. On both sides. That sounds gross.
[1:29:41] Emily: Let's go.
[1:29:42] Abby: Thank you for keeping in the whole kiss.
[1:29:45] Emily: Thank you. Thank you, God. Thank you, God.
[1:29:50] Abby: Oh my gosh.
[1:29:51] Emily: Wow.
[1:29:51] Abby: Can I start the discourse, please?
[1:29:53] Emily: Go ahead.
[1:29:54] Abby: I'm obsessed with this song. Obsessed. There's so much here. It's literally like they went to the factory and they were like, okay, let's make a song that Andrew McGuire will specifically be obsessed with. And they were like, say no more, fam. I got you. Cherish Cherish, Glee Cast version by the Glee Cast. I'm talking about God Squad just generally just being perfect, perfect, perfect plot. Just like, oh my God, I love when they do this where they're like, hey, we have the Glee Club, but we have this subset of characters that are like, that are very random. Just like random, just specifically, but they're all united by this one thing and that is God. And I think that's very fun and a very cute plotline that only lasts two episodes, but it's perfect.
And then also like, okay, so we get Serial Hearts earlier in the episode. And of course, Diana Agron was, they had the spray bottle with Diana Agron. Get out of here. They're like, don't come into the studio. Spray bottles big theme this episode.
[1:31:01] Emily: Wait, no. Okay. I think the sound earlier was actually fireworks because now I'm hearing, I'm hearing like the, and I think, yeah, that's definitely fireworks, which is how I feel when I think about Cherish, Cherish. But Diana Agron was invited into the studio. Thank God for Cherish, Cherish. And she's, she's lead vocal here, right?
[1:31:26] Abby: Yeah, she would be. I'd say it's a pretty even across the board for all of them.
[1:31:30] Emily: Yeah. And like, it's like, it's the closest thing that we have to a Quincytis duet. And I just think that it's like, on paper, it's just like, it's so dumb. I could just like, imagine gay guy, Ryan Murphy being like, I think this is how I'm going to start referring to him. Going like, just like writing the script for this episode and just being like, I don't know, Cherish, Cherish by Madonna, matched up by Cherish by the Association. Adam Anders, figure it out. You know, like, it like, he's not thinking about like, how, like the beats per minute of like, how these songs will match up. He's just thinking about the titles.
[1:32:17] Abby: Yeah. And he's just like, I don't fucking know. I'm a gay guy. I know Andrew, he used to hate seeing him. I know like, Andrew used to hate fucking seeing him, his fucking requests. Like, oh my God.
[1:32:28] Emily: Oh my God. I'm so scared.
[1:32:30] Abby: Yeah. But like, Adam Anders like, cooked here. He really like, it's crazy that he was able to pull this out because like, it by all means, it should not work. And also like, shout out to Samuel Larson in Court Overstreet. Samuel Larson, specifically, he really is really up there with the male vocalists. Like he, he has some really, really beautiful vocals on the Hitbox Show Glee. And this of course, is one of them. Cherish Cherish, I'm obsessed with you. I think that while watching, my heart did sink in a bad way when Sugar and Rory would talk that I'm like, oh, this is distracting. You know?
[1:33:15] Emily: Yeah, it is distracting.
[1:33:16] Abby: So is his ass, he was lying about getting deported, right?
[1:33:19] Emily: Okay, girl, I don't know.
[1:33:22] Abby: There's literally no way of knowing.
[1:33:24] Emily: Because he's like, because he's like, he's like, he forgot that he even made the lie up. He's like, what the fuck are you talking about, bitch? What do you, what do you mean I'm getting deported?
[1:33:32] Abby: No, I like, we were talking about, I forget who it was with a few weeks ago, where I think we like, figured it out. So like, Rory says to Sugar, he makes up a lie that says that he's getting deported to get in Sugar's pants. And then...
[1:33:45] Emily: Yes, he's figuring L-O-V-E.
[1:33:51] Abby: Yes. And, and then he like, Sugar clocks his ass during Cherish Cherish. And he's like, uh-huh, I am getting deported. Because he wasn't going to actually leave during season four, Damien McGinty. But then at the end of season three, they were like, hey, do you want to come back for season four? And Damien McGinty was like, I see what you're doing with my character, I want out of this show. Like, you're not doing anything with me. And so like, it does become canon that he does get deported, even though it definitely is a lie at this point.
[1:34:26] Emily: Yeah, yeah, I agree. I think that's what happened.
[1:34:29] Abby: It was convenient.
[1:34:30] Emily: Yeah.
[1:34:30] Abby: Yeah.
[1:34:31] Emily: We could just have you deported. Sure.
[1:34:32] Abby: We could just, fine.
[1:34:33] Emily: That's how we write you out.
[1:34:34] Abby: We could just have you deported.
[1:34:38] Emily: Yeah, it's not, not very good right now. Anyway.
[1:34:43] Abby: No, it's like, yeah, it's sensitive.
[1:34:46] Emily: Yeah.
[1:34:47] Abby: Too sensitive right now. I apologize.
[1:34:49] Emily: Hashtag prank. Hashtag prank.
[1:34:57] Abby: Rory's like, prank YouTube channel.
[1:35:01] Emily: You've been punked.
[1:35:04] Abby: I punk my rich girlfriend into thinking I'm getting deported.
[1:35:09] Emily: Not clickbait.
[1:35:11] Abby: Oh my god. Uh, Abby, Cherish Cherish, what do you think?
[1:35:17] Abby: I fucking love this song. I used to not appreciate it until I started appreciating it. And it was like, I love, I love everything about it. I love this episode. I think everybody's really cute, really fun, really fresh and their cute little outfits. And yeah, I really love Quinn's. I mean, Quinn's voice is so sweetie pie, just like, like, just lovely. She has just such a lovely voice. And I feel like everybody's voice is just so lovely. Yeah, the performance is just lovely. But Tana kisses.
[1:35:45] Emily: Come on.
[1:35:46] Abby: I was smiling this entire performance.
[1:35:48] Emily: Oh yeah, me too. It was from ear to ear.
[1:35:51] Abby: I mean, were you smiling during the Flamada scenes?
[1:35:55] Emily: Well, I was taking notes during those scenes, obviously.
[1:36:00] Abby: That's their ship name, Flamada.
[1:36:02] Emily: I've never heard that before.
[1:36:04] Abby: Really? Isn't that a fun ship name?
[1:36:06] Emily: It is.
[1:36:06] Abby: It is.
[1:36:07] Emily: Flamingo.
[1:36:09] Abby: And I do.
[1:36:10] Emily: But yeah.
[1:36:11] Abby: Yeah, the, the, oh my god, I can't believe that I completely forgot to like, bring up that like, yeah, the first Britannic kiss, of course, is found in this mp4.
[1:36:22] Emily: The fact that it's the first one is crazy, though.
[1:36:24] Abby: Yeah.
[1:36:25] Emily: Oh my gosh. Were you gagged when you guys watched this live?
[1:36:27] Abby: Oh my gosh. Yeah, I remember-
[1:36:29] Emily: We were in the trenches forever with them.
[1:36:31] Abby: The trenches. And like, I remember like watching it with my mom live and then like, having to like, I was having like a bodily reaction. That was like, oh god, I need, I can't contain my excitement for this. My mom can't know.
[1:36:46] Emily: My mom can't know how much it means to me that these two fictional girls are kissing.
[1:36:53] Abby: She can't know I'm Yuri Pills.
[1:36:55] Emily: No, I relate to that. And then also the fact that like, Quinn is wearing a lesbian flag dress in honor of a Britannic.
[1:37:03] Abby: Speaking of gay Quinn, this is the gay Quinn competition.
[1:37:07] Emily: Gay Quinn. Oh, yeah.
[1:37:08] Abby: Yeah.
[1:37:09] Emily: This is also like, speaking of Quinn not being at Britannia's wedding, like, this is the best we're gonna get. This is the closest we're gonna get with that.
[1:37:16] Abby: That's true.
[1:37:16] Emily: I actually like, that's why I really love this part, like when she like, sings to them and it's like, oh, you know, it's like, she's like, like, she definitely knew they were together from season one. Like she knows that they're like, she's seen this journey, like up close, closer than anyone has. And to finally be like, okay, like, oh my god, I'm gonna cry.
[1:37:34] Abby: It's very like, I love the unholy trinity, like more in concept than execution. Because like, for sure.
[1:37:40] Emily: Not like they have a whole lot of scenes together. But like, this really feeds into it.
[1:37:44] Abby: Yeah. And I feel like there's a lot to stand on when like, I'm sure they know it because there's, we don't see it. But we know that there's proof that they know each other very deeply.
[1:37:52] Emily: Yeah.
[1:37:52] Abby: So like, even though like, we don't see them like, I don't know, painting each other's toenails at the fucking sleepover. We know that they deeply care for each other. And that's why they're able to like, they care for each other so much. And they also know each other so well that they know how to fucking get on each other's nerves. Like Quinn knows what to say. Santana knows what to say. Like Quinn and Brittany, do they ever say words to each other? No. But do I remember them having lunch together on the New York stairs? Oh yeah, they did.
[1:38:21] Emily: But they know each other. That's all that matters.
[1:38:24] Abby: They're perceiving each other.
[1:38:26] Emily: They're perceiving each other.
[1:38:27] Abby: No, but I think that there is lore to be had with Fierce. That's their show.
[1:38:32] Emily: Yes, yes. Fierce. Yes, yes, yes.
[1:38:36] Abby: I think that there is actually, they do have like a much stronger connection to be like, kind of like subtext.
[1:38:44] Emily: I feel like Quinn like, gets Brittany, like gets her sense of humor, you know?
[1:38:49] Abby: Yeah.
[1:38:50] Emily: Like she knows that she's like, not that dumb, like in the same way that Santana does.
[1:38:53] Abby: Well, I think that like, Quinn is like, literally, like, she's the layup line for like, the beginning of Brittany being dumb. Like Quinn is like, because Brittany isn't dumb until she's like, cheating off of Quinn's test in season one.
[1:39:11] Emily: Yes.
[1:39:14] Abby: And then Quinn's like, stop cheating off of me. And Brittany's like, I just don't understand anything. Or something. It's so stupid. Yeah.
[1:39:23] Emily: And Quinn's like, that's not my problem.
[1:39:25] Abby: That's not my problem.
[1:39:30] Emily: And lowkey, that was because Finn was annoying her. Like Finn was doing, that's why she was so short with Brittany. That's really what it was.
[1:39:35] Abby: Yeah. Tight leash.
[1:39:38] Emily: The Sue Sylvester shuffle episode. Like, I feel like that was, like, they didn't want-
[1:39:42] Abby: I'm conflicted, I'm Brittany.
[1:39:44] Emily: Yeah. So good.
[1:39:46] Abby: I'm, wait, I'm conflicted, I'm not, I'm Brittany.
[1:39:49] Emily: Perfect. Yeah.
[1:39:51] Abby: I like, I referenced that line so many, it's like, so much. It's actually, I feel like that episode is enough to prove that Quinn and Brittany are actually good friends. Why do I say that? Santana was willing to send that, she was willing to send her in the cannon. She was like, it was worth it. And Quinn was standing on business.
[1:40:06] Emily: Yeah.
[1:40:08] Abby: She was. But yeah, fuck yeah. Are you guys familiar with that, like, Tumblr fan art from back in the day of the unholy trinity in, like, zombie makeup? It was so popular. I literally have it hanging on my wall. Please show us, show us.
[1:40:20] Emily: It's up there. You see it? Oh my gosh, I do remember that. Yes.
[1:40:26] Abby: Yes. It was so iconic. I loved it. So clearly I printed it out and put it on my wall.
[1:52:47] Abby: If you go to her Twitter and search Glee, like there's just like hundreds of tweets, like she would live tweet Glee.
[1:52:52] Emily: Yeah, she's like time to watch Glee.
[1:52:54] Abby: And she literally, time to watch Glee. I just cried so hard at last night's Glee episode.
[1:52:59] Emily: Wait, how far, I'm just like so curious, like when did she fall off? Do you know?
[1:53:04] Abby: I'm not sure. She stopped tweeting about it in like 2013, but then she tweeted about Naya in 2020. So, I mean, I don't know.
[1:53:11] Emily: Yeah, but yeah.
[1:53:13] Abby: So I really don't know. There's like this interview of her when they did the first musical episode of Riverdale, where she was talking about how she was so happy that she got to like play on her Glee fantasy. And she was like, obsessed with On My Own, like with Rachel's version of On My Own. And she would like sing it in auditions and stuff. And she apparently auditioned for Glee, which I didn't know.
[1:53:31] Emily: Why is she Gleek of the Week?
[1:53:33] Abby: She's literally Gleek of the Week.
[1:53:34] Emily: She really is. Wait, do we know what she auditioned for?
[1:53:37] Abby: I have no info other than she said she auditioned. I'm assuming it was probably for like the season four because she's a little too young to like have initially auditioned.
[1:53:48] Emily: I remember like, who was I talking to that like, they said that AJ, AJ Machaka auditioned for Kitty?
[1:53:59] Abby: I believe it.
[1:54:01] Emily: I feel like she could have auditioned for Kitty for sure.
[1:54:03] Abby: She could have auditioned for Kitty.
[1:54:04] Emily: She has a photo with Melissa Benoist on her Instagram where she's like, like fangirling out.
[1:54:09] Abby: Oh.
[1:54:10] Emily: Yeah.
[1:54:11] Abby: Okay.
[1:54:12] Emily: She's really in it.
[1:54:13] Abby: The Riverdale Glee ties are really big, guys. The ties are big.
[1:54:17] Emily: So you know, if you like Lili Reinhart, listen to her podcast.
[1:54:22] Abby: Hey, I mean this, I feel like this episode alone is more than enough reason for you to go listen to these two Gleeky girls talk about another TV show that is just as equally as chaotic and so perfect.
[1:54:36] Emily: So go listen. Riverdeep with Abby and Emily. I love them so much.
[1:54:41] Abby: And we're gonna have another great episode for you next week.
[1:54:46] Emily: Okay, bye.
[1:54:47] Abby: Bye.
[1:54:48] Emily: Bye.
[1:54:49] Abby: Bye.
[1:54:50] Emily: It's Gleek. Gleek of the Week.
