[0:00] Andrew: We've got a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.
[0:09] Andrew: There's no rhyme or reason to it, so don't get mad at me.
[0:18] Andrew: Gleek it by Gleek it, we'll rank everyone to see which song will move closer to spot number one.
[0:26] Andrew: Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week. It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
[0:35] Andrew: Okay, hey! It's Sister Week on Gleek of the Week Pod. I'm here with Skip or Scream, Maggie and Cassie. Hey!
[0:46] Maggie: Hi, Freaky Gleekies. Sister, sister.
[0:56] Andrew: You know? Wow, I know the reference. I got it.
[1:00] Cassie: Tia and Tamara, anyone?
[1:03] Andrew: Wait, I feel like I said Maggie and Cassie, but I feel like Cassie and Maggie kind of rolls off the tongue better.
[1:09] Cassie: Yeah, say my name first.
[1:13] Maggie: Right, exactly. Give me some respect.
[1:17] Cassie: I'm the elder.
[1:19] Maggie: She's a fossil.
[1:23] Andrew: Fossil alert. Hey, okay, what's new? What's going on?
[1:31] Cassie: Oh, Andrew, it's the same old thing, different week. Same shit, a different week, you know?
[1:37] Cassie: Me and Cassie are both trying to sell our house, so it's like hot mess, stress up in this bitch.
[1:41] Maggie: So you kind of desperately need to talk about Gleek.
[1:47] Cassie: I kind of need to talk about literally anything, specifically Gleek would be wonderful.
[1:53] Cassie: I just got home from a house that I was seeing, because we're also on the market to buy a house,
[1:58] Cassie: and my realtor has been in the market, or has been a realtor for a very long time,
[2:02] Cassie: and he said that the house that we just saw was the worst house he's ever seen.
[2:06] Maggie: No! That's crazy!
[2:11] Cassie: Why'd you guys go look at it? Because it was a really cool lot that looked down on Lake Superior,
[2:17] Cassie: and you could see the bridge, and it was really cool, but it very much reminded me of our grandparents' house,
[2:23] Cassie: that it was built a very long time ago, and it smelled, and I didn't even go in the basement,
[2:27] Cassie: because I was scared I was going to get a respiratory infection.
[2:31] Cassie: So I just didn't even go down in the basement, but my partner did, and the realtor did,
[2:34] Cassie: and I'm like, you guys are insane, I'm just going to wait outside. Brave souls.
[2:36] Andrew: Which Glee character could you see living at that house?
[2:38] Cassie: Way to bring it back around, Andrew.
[2:42] Andrew: Of course. You know I have a way with Glee.
[2:49] Cassie: Oh, that is a great question. I don't think any of them would live in that house.
[2:52] Maggie: Oh, really?
[2:54] Cassie: There has to be some Glee character that would live there, like Jacob Ben Israel? No?
[2:58] Maggie: No. I don't know.
[3:01] Cassie: It's bad.
[3:05] Maggie: No, someone needs to be able to live there. Come on.
[3:09] Cassie: Nurse Penny. Nurse Penny lives there before she disappears.
[3:13] Maggie: No, this is where she goes after she disappears.
[3:17] Cassie: That's why we never hear from her again.
[3:19] Maggie: She goes into hiding for dating a minor, even though he's not a minor.
[3:23] Cassie: And there we go, Nurse Penny, resident of this house.
[3:26] Andrew: Cassie, you should be thankful that Cassie is moving because that's how she found her Glee poster that she talked about the last time we were on the pod.
[3:35] Cassie: I love this Glee poster. I don't think I posted that.
[3:38] Andrew: You sent it to me, but I'll include it in the little carousel for this episode.
[3:42] Cassie: I love. Wait, and who signed it? Everybody?
[3:46] Maggie: Everybody except Dianna Argon.
[3:49] Cassie: Argon. Argon.
[3:51] Andrew: Oh, okay.
[3:53] Cassie: I'm going to get fired.
[3:57] Maggie: What the actual fuck did you just say?
[3:59] Cassie: Argon? Agron? I just reversed the letters a little.
[4:03] Maggie: Her favorite element on the periodic table is Argon.
[4:07] Cassie: I just always like to talk about it, so I'm trying to read the word.
[4:11] Andrew: Dianna Agron.
[4:13] Cassie: You got it.
[4:15] Andrew: Hey, maybe I'm dyslexic and you just made fun of me.
[4:17] Cassie: You're right. Okay.
[4:19] Andrew: Alright, Gleeks, if you just made fun of her, please apologize to Cassie.
[4:24] Cassie: No, you don't need to apologize.
[4:26] Cassie: It's just me being dumb. Sorry, everybody.
[4:28] Andrew: Wait, what is the element Argon?
[4:32] Cassie: It's gas, isn't it?
[4:34] Maggie: Yeah.
[4:36] Cassie: It's gas.
[4:38] Cassie: Maybe it goes in blimps. I think it goes in blimps.
[4:40] Andrew: Someone let me know. Is Argon in blimps?
[4:42] Cassie: Put it in the comments, folks.
[4:45] Cassie: You know, bringing it back to Glee and the periodic chart,
[4:47] Cassie: me and Elias always talk about,
[4:49] Cassie: I don't know if you remember this lore.
[4:51] Cassie: We had her on the podcast years and years and years ago.
[4:53] Cassie: Her name is Nicole.
[4:55] Cassie: She was an extra on Glee,
[4:57] Cassie: and she spoiled who won prom, king and queen.
[4:59] Maggie: Yes.
[5:01] Cassie: Do you remember this?
[5:03] Maggie: Yes, yes, yes.
[5:05] Cassie: Was this, okay, never mind. Keep going, keep going.
[5:09] Cassie: But to bring it to the periodic chart,
[5:11] Cassie: which is really important here,
[5:13] Cassie: the spoiler that got her in big trouble
[5:15] Cassie: was that she spoiled who won prom, king and queen
[5:17] Cassie: by tweeting, K is PQ and KA is PK.
[5:23] Cassie: Me and Elias always talk about that.
[5:25] Cassie: It sounds like, why did she even get in trouble for that?
[5:29] Maggie: Because it kind of sounds like she's just listing elements.
[5:33] Cassie: Yeah.
[5:35] Cassie: She's just saying what elements are.
[5:37] Maggie: I kind of love that.
[5:39] Cassie: So, anyway.
[5:42] Cassie: Kind of sounds like elements.
[5:44] Cassie: She just really likes science.
[5:46] Maggie: You guys.
[5:50] Cassie: Chill out.
[5:52] Cassie: Literally, Brad Falchuk, creator of the damn show, said,
[5:54] Cassie: you will never work in this town again as a result of that tweet.
[6:00] Maggie: Literally.
[6:02] Cassie: That's honestly just so threatening to a teenage young woman.
[6:08] Maggie: I know.
[6:10] Cassie: I think that last I checked and all loved her,
[6:14] Cassie: I think that she does social media for her parents' roofing company.
[6:20] Maggie: Oh, okay.
[6:22] Cassie: That sounds like a great book.
[6:24] Maggie: But it doesn't sound like it's the same business.
[6:26] Cassie: It's not the same bag.
[6:28] Cassie: It's a bag full of shingles and nails.
[6:30] You guys,
[6:32] Cassie: we cannot say the word bag.
[6:34] Cassie: I just want you guys to know,
[6:36] Andrew was on our podcast when I was gone,
[6:39] Cassie: and the amount of times that they said the word bag was somewhere in the 30s or 40s.
[6:45] Andrew: What? No, we didn't.
[6:47] Cassie: Why would we say that?
[6:49] Cassie: We were talking about...
[6:51] Andrew: Oh, wait, sorry, it was gag, not bag.
[6:53] Cassie: Oh, gag.
[6:55] Andrew: That actually kind of does sound amusing.
[6:57] Cassie: That clocks.
[6:59] Andrew: I was like, how do you not remember this?
[7:01] Andrew: It was like 50 times.
[7:03] Cassie: When you're talking about M. Night Shyamalan movies,
[7:05] Cassie: y'all talk a lot about the gags.
[7:07] Andrew: There's so many gags.
[7:09] Cassie: Gags.
[7:11] Andrew: Gags, bags.
[7:13] Cassie: I get it mixed up.
[7:15] Maggie: Maggie, talking about gags,
[7:17] Maggie: what kind of...
[7:19] Cassie: Something kind of gagged you in terms of the Glackett.
[7:23] Maggie: Yes, the Glackett.
[7:25] Maggie: You guys, I was listening to the last episode today.
[7:27] Maggie: And, you know, it's also kind of hard out in these streets.
[7:31] Maggie: I really am struggling because being a patron gleek is kind of a blessing and a curse.
[7:40] Cassie: Just shout out to all the patrons out there.
[7:42] Cassie: Everyone should become a Patreon member.
[7:44] Maggie: Wait, what is the curse aspect?
[7:46] Maggie: I get confused because I listen usually on Friday releases
[7:50] Maggie: and then things get released on Tuesdays.
[7:52] Maggie: But sometimes you release stuff even earlier on Thursdays and polls are on Sundays.
[7:56] Maggie: So I get really confused about what songs...
[8:00] Maggie: And I don't know where we're going.
[8:02] Cassie: It's a full-time job to keep track of all this.
[8:04] Maggie: It truly is. I am not joking when I say I'm out in these streets hustling.
[8:08] Maggie: So I just get really mixed up about what songs are on what episode.
[8:12] Maggie: So I make sure 100% that I'm all caught up to this point.
[8:18] Maggie: And I just think that everything's been pretty okay so far.
[8:22] Maggie: You mentioned it once, but Teenage Dream Season 4 is like my baby boy.
[8:28] Maggie: That's my baby. Love him.
[8:30] Cassie: Do we think it's a he or she?
[8:35] Maggie: Hmm.
[8:37] Cassie: Cassie, when Blaine is at the piano singing Teenage Dream acoustic version,
[8:41] Cassie: what gender are you assigning that song?
[8:43] Cassie: Oh, it's a she for sure.
[8:45] Maggie: Oh, that's a she.
[8:47] Cassie: Okay.
[8:49] Cassie: A male MLM relationship?
[8:51] Cassie: Yes.
[8:53] Cassie: It's just like so, you know, just delightful in the way that only a lady could be.
[8:57] Maggie: Oh, okay.
[9:01] Cassie: Or something like that.
[9:05] Cassie: Delightful in only the way a lady could be. I love that.
[9:09] Maggie: Yeah.
[9:11] Cassie: I just love her.
[9:13] Cassie: She famously wanted it to be my first dance song at my wedding.
[9:17] Cassie: My husband poo-pooed that so fast.
[9:19] Cassie: But I just love her very, very much.
[9:21] Maggie: But the thing in the most recent episode that I'm sad about is like a prayer,
[9:25] Maggie: everyone I think we need a collective moment.
[9:30] Maggie: You know, here's the thing.
[9:34] Maggie: Here's the thing.
[9:36] Maggie: I feel like you guys, I couldn't tell if you were doing a bit
[9:40] Maggie: because I swear to God, I don't know if it was you, Andrew, or someone else
[9:44] Maggie: who was a guest on the pod was like, why the fuck is Blame It On The Alcohol still here?
[9:48] Maggie: Like I don't understand why it's still here.
[9:50] Cassie: And I thought someone was like slightly annoyed about it
[9:52] Cassie: and I swear that someone was you.
[9:54] Andrew: Oh, was I?
[9:56] Maggie: Maybe not.
[9:58] Cassie: I changed my mind constantly.
[10:00] Cassie: Because it's like a cockroach.
[10:02] Cassie: You set off a bomb and this thing just keeps surviving.
[10:06] Cassie: It keeps coming back.
[10:08] Cassie: And it's really impressive that it's in round 5 now.
[10:10] Maggie: It's in the top 50.
[10:12] Cassie: Honestly, I think we've kind of forgotten about
[10:14] Cassie: there was a time that I feel like it was kind of contested,
[10:18] Cassie: but people were doing a thing when they were on as guests as the titular Gleeks of the Week.
[10:27] Cassie: That they were doing a how will this fare in the next round?
[10:31] Cassie: Or could this win the Glackett type of thing?
[10:35] Cassie: You know what I mean?
[10:37] Andrew: And I think that you guys just like you guys being you and Ian and Lena
[10:41] Andrew: were like breeze past the fact that you got rid of one of my top 10 favorite songs of all of Glee.
[10:51] Cassie: I totally understand what you're saying.
[10:55] Cassie: Yes, and I feel I know that I think that I was the last one to vote in that competition,
[11:01] Cassie: but it was already solidified that it was Blame It On The Alcohol versus Like A Prayer.
[11:07] Cassie: Ian and Lena both voted for Blame It On The Alcohol.
[11:09] Cassie: It didn't matter if I even voted for Like A Prayer because
[11:13] Cassie: Blame It On The Alcohol was already going through.
[11:15] Maggie: I did a vote for Blame It On The Alcohol.
[11:17] Cassie: I'm rethinking that choice now on my part
[11:21] Cassie: that I think I should have fought more for Like A Prayer because honestly
[11:26] Cassie: Like A Prayer kind of encapsulates the Glee club.
[11:30] Cassie: It's like kind of when you think about Best Song On Glee
[11:34] Cassie: Blame It On The Alcohol isn't kind of the vibe that you kind of are yearning for with I don't...
[11:44] Maggie: Now you have to live with the fact that you voted for that and didn't stand up for Like A Prayer.
[11:50] Cassie: Okay, you're getting me right now.
[11:54] Cassie: See, now Blame It On The Alcohol it's fun, it's silly, it's goofy,
[11:58] Cassie: it's a great time, but it's like if we're talking about straight up the best song
[12:02] Cassie: which is the point of this whole darn thing y'all,
[12:06] Cassie: the Best Song On Glee I know that not very many people are going to say Like A Prayer is,
[12:12] Cassie: but honestly I could see it getting...
[12:14] Maggie: Yes, I could see it.
[12:16] Cassie: It's got everything you need.
[12:18] Cassie: It's a group number, it has show choir choreography that only the first couple seasons have.
[12:22] Cassie: It has the mismatched outfits that are the same color but in different styles where everybody's wearing like random red shirts and jeans and like black converse.
[12:30] Cassie: It has a part that literally makes me tear up every time which is Kurt kissing Mercedes on the cheek before she absolutely belts it and lifts up that curtain like God revealing that choir literally let that choir sing.
[12:44] Andrew: I'm getting chills right now listening to you describe it.
[12:46] Cassie: I just think that I just think it is hard to find a single flaw in that performance
[12:54] Cassie: and I'm not like mad that Blame It On The Alcohol went through it just felt like
[12:58] Cassie: it just felt like it almost is like recency bias for it being the second song pulled.
[13:04] Cassie: I honestly think things might have been different if you would have pulled Blame It On The Alcohol first and then pulled Like A Prayer.
[13:12] Andrew: And that's so interesting and there's no way of knowing for sure.
[13:16] Cassie: Doesn't somebody do like Glanalytics or whatever for you?
[13:20] Andrew: You should do some stats on that.
[13:22] Cassie: Multiple people are doing some.
[13:24] Andrew: That is interesting. Oh my God.
[13:26] Cassie: On a first song pulled or a second song pulled?
[13:28] Andrew: That's so interesting.
[13:33] Kassie: And Elijah are actually going to be on the next episode.
[13:35] Maggie: And I would be so interested.
[13:38] Kassie: Tell them they have homework.
[13:39] Maggie: Yeah, that just feels like you need to like go back.
[13:43] Kassie: Ah, no, they have like the order of all the songs.
[13:46] Maggie: And so like, I'm so curious of like, did our first poll songs fare better than the second?
[13:50] Kassie: That's so interesting.
[13:55] Maggie: No, the second would be faring better, I think.
[13:57] Kassie: Oh, second, sorry.
[13:58] Maggie: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[14:00] Kassie: Well, because like when I coach dance team, whenever they determine the order of performance, they'd always draw for like the order.
[14:04] Maggie: And it was always like a big hubbub if you got pulled first versus last or whatever. You know what I mean?
[14:15] Kassie: We're talking on a Glee Podcast about bringing it back to Glee itself.
[14:19] Maggie: They literally talk about like when they go to the competitions, like the order in which they perform at competitions like that affecting 100% the recency wise.
[14:33] Kassie: Wow. Yep. Yep.
[14:35] Maggie: Really interesting.
[14:36] Kassie: So Maggie, you're big time upset.
[14:38] Maggie: Big time upset.
[14:39] Kassie: Are you saying big time upset?
[14:40] Maggie: I think I am big time upset.
[14:42] Kassie: I'm not like big time upset at you or the guests.
[14:45] Maggie: I'm just like really devastated.
[14:47] Kassie: I'm not mad.
[14:48] Maggie: I'm just disappointed.
[14:50] Kassie: Oh, oh, no.
[14:52] Maggie: Just in the glacket.
[14:53] Kassie: I'm not disappointed in you guys.
[14:55] Maggie: I'm just disappointed in the fact that that's gone.
[14:58] Kassie: And I really, really think it deserves to be in the next round.
[15:02] Maggie: Like a lot.
[15:04] Kassie: Okay.
[15:06] Maggie: Um, do we what do we want to see in terms of glacket this evening?
[15:11] Kassie: What kind of vibe?
[15:14] Maggie: I want to feel um, I want like an upper and a downer.
[15:21] Kassie: I want to like feel really even keeled.
[15:23] Maggie: I've been having a lot of stress in my life lately with this whole buying and selling houses stuff.
[15:27] Kassie: So I think like a prayer versus blame it on the yeah, this whole like, yeah, there's like a prayer turmoil that has been eating me alive since earlier this afternoon.
[15:36] Maggie: I need life has been blame it on the alcohol right now.
[15:40] Kassie: But she wants it to feel like yes, yes, I want the damn choir to sing you guys.
[15:46] Maggie: How my life is versus how I want it to be.
[15:49] Kassie: Yes, yes.
[15:51] Maggie: I um, as always, will manifest not getting paradised by the dashboard light.
[16:00] Kassie: Oh, can't wait.
[16:02] Maggie: Also, Dan that song.
[16:05] Kassie: Before you say anything further, bring it back to blame it on my alcohol.
[16:08] Maggie: That was the first episode I was in baby.
[16:11] Kassie: Yeah, that was crazy.
[16:12] Maggie: So I remember Allison Dodge, shout out, love you the most.
[16:18] Kassie: When she like, was like, Do you want to be in the pod?
[16:20] Maggie: That was long before me and Cassie had our pod.
[16:22] Kassie: So I didn't know what the hell I was doing.
[16:25] Maggie: And so I was like, Okay, do I need to come over?
[16:27] Kassie: So I went to her house to record in Glerson, y'all.
[16:30] Maggie: And in order to wet our palate here, we watched blame it on the alcohol before we recorded.
[16:36] Kassie: I completely forget that you did that in person.
[16:39] Maggie: There were certain guests that she had over.
[16:41] Kassie: I think I had one guest over in person.
[16:44] Maggie: I don't think she I think she only had me, Joe and one other maybe, right?
[16:50] Kassie: Oh, no, her roommate at the time, Gina was on and also Sydney was also on the podcast in person as well.
[17:02] Maggie: And like, that's always so interesting.
[17:04] Kassie: This is this is inside baseball to be talking about.
[17:07] Maggie: But like, when you're talking to an entire screen full of people, or like two people within the same Zoom, oh my god, it's like there's something like when you're calling into a conference call, and you're like the only one that's not in the room.
[17:20] Kassie: It's kind of awkward.
[17:23] Maggie: Oh, yeah.
[17:24] Kassie: Yeah, it's fight or flight.
[17:25] Maggie: You get it.
[17:26] Kassie: Okay.
[17:26] Maggie: Anyway, that's neither here nor there.
[17:29] Kassie: Okay, so what were the songs that we did last episode?
[17:34] Maggie: We had Sweet Transvestite.
[17:36] Kassie: We had Proud Mary.
[17:38] Maggie: We had that.
[17:43] Kassie: Yeah, don't we just pick from two?
[17:46] Maggie: Okay, no, no, no.
[17:46] Kassie: Then your last episode that we recorded in January, we recorded, it was Jesse's girl lost to you keep me hanging on.
[17:57] Maggie: And Sweet Transvestite won over a love song.
[18:00] Kassie: Oh, yes, yes.
[18:01] Maggie: We didn't have Proud Mary.
[18:02] Kassie: Why did I think we had Proud Mary?
[18:04] Maggie: Yeah, I was like, it's because the last episode I was on the last episode.
[18:08] Kassie: Humble break.
[18:08] Maggie: Cassie, I didn't I didn't want to invite you to that.
[18:10] Kassie: Because yeah, I'm such a bitch.
[18:13] Maggie: That's why.
[18:13] Kassie: Yeah, it's okay.
[18:16] Maggie: I feel like everyone who listened last time was like this girl has no requirements to be.
[18:24] Kassie: Hey, she has a signed Glee poster. Y'all can shut your mouth.
[18:26] Maggie: No, I was like before some of y'all were born.
[18:32] Kassie: No, exactly that part that part.
[18:34] Maggie: But the fact that you're pronouncing Dianna's last name with a with a element instead of her actual pronunciation shows that you're an intellectual Gleek.
[18:44] Kassie: Actually, that's exactly it. That's what that's showing.
[18:48] Maggie: Anyway.
[18:49] Kassie: Okay, so wait, Cassie, what do you want to say?
[18:52] Maggie: You want to see the same thing as Maggie?
[18:54] Kassie: What are you feeling?
[18:56] Kassie: You know, I would like all uppers.
[18:59] Maggie: I want it.
[19:00] Kassie: I want them all.
[19:01] Maggie: All of them up.
[19:03] Kassie: I need it right now.
[19:06] Maggie: It's just and if they're all downers, then I'll just really get into my feels.
[19:09] Kassie: And then I'll just take a gummy after and let myself vibe out.
[19:14] Maggie: So sad.
[19:15] Kassie: A glummy.
[19:15] Maggie: You know, I glummy I, I've been like glumming it up.
[19:21] Kassie: Not too much.
[19:22] Maggie: But like, every time that I do it, I'm like, I have the craziest dreams.
[19:26] Kassie: Why would you want to do that before you go to bed?
[19:29] Maggie: I don't know.
[19:30] Kassie: Before I go to bed, because then you know, you're not like going anywhere or doing anything.
[19:34] Maggie: Yeah, I live in a city where you have to drive everywhere.
[19:36] Kassie: You can't just ride public.
[19:38] Maggie: Oh, yeah.
[19:39] Kassie: So like, you can't like take a gummy and like go out because it's like you need to drive.
[19:45] Maggie: So I'm always taking it at night before bed.
[19:47] Kassie: And I always have crazy dreams.
[19:48] Maggie: I have like nightmares all the time, even when I'm not on gummies of like getting murdered.
[19:52] Kassie: So it's just it is what it is.
[19:55] Maggie: Probably because of the subject matter of our podcast, Cassie.
[20:00] Kassie: I've yet to take a gummy before recording.
[20:02] Maggie: Have you done that?
[20:03] Kassie: No, I've been tempted to but I thought Maggie would get mad at me.
[20:06] Maggie: Oh, I know, I feel like honestly, oh my god, like now everyone's gonna be like, Andrew, do it, do it, do it, do it.
[20:12] Kassie: No, you I would say the most out of pocket shit.
[20:16] Maggie: No, you should like a Patreon episode.
[20:19] Kassie: Well, that's the thing.
[20:20] Maggie: I wanted to do a Patreon bonus episode, but kind of also just a regular episode where we drink or just I get drunk and try to explain a movie rather than taking our diligent notes that we normally do where we like do every detail scene by scene of a scary movie and just try to like explain it off the top of my head drunk.
[20:39] Kassie: But I'm worried that might like, I don't know.
[20:44] Maggie: Promote alcoholism.
[20:47] Kassie: Blame it on alcohol.
[20:49] Maggie: Blame it on alcohol.
[20:49] Kassie: Bringing it back.
[20:50] Maggie: Hair of the dog that don't fit your ass.
[20:55] Kassie: Okay, so we're looking for upper.
[20:56] Maggie: We're also maybe looking for downer.
[20:59] Kassie: Let's see, what do we have?
[21:00] Maggie: A halo walking on sunshine.
[21:01] Kassie: Oh my god, I would die if we had that.
[21:04] Maggie: This is kind of, okay, this is so interesting because I feel like it's like kind of, it's like supposed to be downer, but it's like silly downer.
[21:12] Kassie: So it doesn't actually count as like, okay, you're not actually going to be upset.
[21:17] Maggie: You know, I'm not gonna feel something.
[21:19] Kassie: I'm just gonna be numb.
[21:20] Maggie: Let's see.
[21:22] Kassie: Season one.
[21:23] Maggie: Oh, Cassie.
[21:24] Kassie: Let's go.
[21:25] Maggie: You guys always get.
[21:28] Kassie: That's good for Cassie.
[21:29] Maggie: She's an old Gleek who needs the season one.
[21:31] Kassie: Yeah, I'm like the original seasons kind of person.
[21:36] Maggie: Okay, you see what it is?
[21:38] Kassie: Yes.
[21:39] Maggie: Do you know what it is?
[21:40] Kassie: I don't know what it is.
[21:42] Maggie: Wait, Cassie, you know what it is?
[21:44] Kassie: I saw the title when you opened it.
[21:46] Maggie: Okay, Cassie, I was like, I wanted you to flex your Gleek muscles and be like, I know what this is from the first frame.
[21:52] Kassie: I mean, I totally figured it out just from the shape of Lea Michele's mouth in this still.
[21:59] Maggie: It is Total Eclipse of the Heart.
[22:01] Kassie: Here we go.
[22:04] Maggie: And there it is.
[22:08] Kassie: I know Cassie has a lot to say about this.
[22:11] Maggie: Cassie, you gasped when Jonathan Groff showed up.
[22:15] Kassie: I just love him so much.
[22:17] Maggie: So this is going to be really difficult for me to be unbiased.
[22:20] Kassie: Okay, wait, can I ask a question right off the bat?
[22:24] Maggie: That's going to sound like a diss.
[22:27] Kassie: It's going to sound like a diss.
[22:28] Maggie: And I truly, truly do not mean it as one.
[22:31] Kassie: Would you consider Jonathan Groff an A-list celebrity?
[22:35] Maggie: No.
[22:36] Kassie: No.
[22:38] Maggie: Okay, why would you?
[22:41] Kassie: Because I don't know.
[22:43] Maggie: I mean, I feel like he was really, I think, at his peak with the normies during Mindhunter.
[22:51] Kassie: Frozen.
[22:53] Maggie: Oh, Frozen.
[22:54] Kassie: And I think that he kind of got introduced to more people through Frozen.
[22:59] Maggie: And now when he was having Merrily We Roll Along, really vibing out with Daniel Radcliffe, I think like-
[23:04] Kassie: And Just In Time, yeah.
[23:06] Maggie: And Just In Time, I think like-
[23:07] Kassie: I don't think it was mainstream enough, though.
[23:09] Maggie: No, I don't think that was mainstream.
[23:11] Kassie: I think that was like, a lot of people who are getting into Broadway, like post-COVID, I think like we're starting to find out about him.
[23:15] Maggie: But I don't think he was necessarily like still big with the normies like he was during Frozen.
[23:21] Kassie: I was just gonna say, he truly is one of the sexiest men alive.
[23:25] Maggie: And the reason that I asked if he was an A-list celebrity is because only A-list celebrities usually get People's Sexiest Man Alive Award.
[23:33] Kassie: And I think he should be nominated.
[23:36] Maggie: And I just want you to take that for your consideration.
[23:38] Kassie: Thank you.
[23:38] Maggie: Maggie's starting the campaign and I love that.
[23:41] Kassie: Wait, Patrick has brought up this question before.
[23:44] Maggie: Is anybody in the Glee cast A-list?
[23:49] Kassie: It depends.
[23:50] Maggie: Gwyneth Paltrow.
[23:52] Kassie: No, we're not-
[23:52] Maggie: John Scales.
[23:53] Kassie: No, no, Maggie, don't do that.
[23:56] Maggie: Okay, I'm sorry.
[23:57] Kassie: I'm sorry.
[23:58] Maggie: Yeah, I would say no.
[24:00] Kassie: You don't think Lea Michele is an A-list celebrity?
[24:02] Maggie: I think the memification of Lea Michele kind of is-
[24:07] Kassie: It helped?
[24:08] Maggie: It helps.
[24:09] Kassie: Yeah.
[24:10] Maggie: Make her more popular, but I don't think she's enough.
[24:12] Kassie: I don't think if I went up to my group of friends right now that I had and was like, something, something, Lea Michele, they would have no idea who I was talking about.
[24:20] Maggie: You know what's so funny?
[24:21] Kassie: I've been meaning to bring this up for the longest time.
[24:25] Maggie: Someone, a friend of mine, non-Gleek, sent me a message and they were like, a voice message, where they were like, hey, I was talking with a friend about Glee and he said Lea Michele, but if you say Lea Michele in like, kind of like a specific diction, it kind of sounds like lame show.
[24:48] Kassie: Lame show.
[24:50] Maggie: And so like, if you're talking about like Glee and you say Lea Michele, it kind of sounds like you're saying lame show.
[25:00] Kassie: So stupid.
[25:01] Maggie: We are, we are getting to the bottom of the barrel.
[25:05] Kassie: I was going to say, Jesus Christ, we don't have anything to talk about, do we?
[25:09] Maggie: Good Lord.
[25:10] Kassie: Good Lord.
[25:12] Maggie: Okay, so Total Eclipse of the Heart.
[25:15] Kassie: I really feel like this is cinematic journey for real.
[25:18] Maggie: I was, there are very few times where in a recording, I'll be watching the song and I'll be kind of like transfixed onto what I'm watching.
[25:30] Kassie: And I was just thinking, I was like, I literally could watch this room of people just sing the entire American songbook.
[25:39] Maggie: And I think that I would not be upset.
[25:43] Kassie: I would just be very happy.
[25:46] Maggie: This feels like, okay, I trust you to do a great performance of Total Eclipse of the Heart and oh my God, it's just perfect.
[25:56] Kassie: Remind me what song precedes this?
[25:58] Maggie: Joey Run Joey Run is not this episode, right?
[26:01] Kassie: Run Joey Run is this episode.
[26:02] Maggie: Okay, that's why everyone's pissed at her.
[26:04] Kassie: Okay, that's what I thought.
[26:06] Maggie: That's what I thought.
[26:07] Kassie: I know that's not what we're talking about.
[26:08] Maggie: But Cassie, are you familiar with Run Joey Run?
[26:10] Kassie: Do you remember it well enough?
[26:11] Maggie: No.
[26:12] Kassie: Okay, let's not talk about it.
[26:13] Maggie: No, Cassie, you remember Run Joey Run.
[26:16] Kassie: I'm sure I do if I saw it, but I don't remember it off the top of my head.
[26:20] Maggie: No, I haven't watched Glee in probably when did it come out?
[26:24] Kassie: I probably haven't watched it in maybe like 10 years.
[26:28] Maggie: Girl, you remember Run Joey Run.
[26:30] Kassie: Let me give you context.
[26:31] Maggie: Run Joey Run was where-
[26:33] Kassie: All the Gleeks are screaming.
[26:35] Maggie: I know, they're so mad at me.
[26:36] Kassie: They're like, get this bitch off here.
[26:38] Maggie: No, they're not calling you a bitch.
[26:40] Kassie: Stop.
[26:41] Maggie: A glitch.
[26:43] Kassie: A glitch in the system.
[26:47] Maggie: No, Run Joey Run is when, okay, Lea Michele, lame show.
[26:51] Kassie: She triple casts her boyfriend in the music video for Run Joey Run.
[27:01] Maggie: And so she casts Finn, Puck, and Jesse, all as her boyfriend.
[27:06] Kassie Lind: When she debuts the music video, they all get mad and they're like, "Oh my god, like you like..." I thought I was like doing the entire thing, what's going on? They all get mad at her and yeah, I'm breaking past details, but yes, do you remember like it's like a really like overdramatic black and white?
[27:26] Maggie Lind: Yeah, oh okay, yep, I'm looking at like clips of it right now. Yeah, I just, it's so hard for me to think that Puck and Finn were in any competition with Jonathan Groff because it's just...
[27:40] Kassie Lind: Wait, and you referred to him as, you referred to him as Groff sauce and I've heard him referred to as Groff sauce before. Where does Groff sauce come from?
[27:53] Maggie Lind: It's from Hamilton, from Lin-Manuel Miranda and Hamilton. It's part of that.
[27:59] Kassie Lind: You look like disappointed to share that information.
[28:06] Maggie Lind: Yeah, well, I just don't want to be... I just, people, some people have gotten really exhausted with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Hamilton, so I feel bad bringing it up because people get really, like, people almost get offended by it now. I mean, it will forever be in my heart. I sing it almost every day because I happen to have a boyfriend whose name is Alexander, and so that really I have upon myself. But I know people have feelings about Lin-Manuel Miranda, but I love him. I, as I was cleaning out my house, I found the whole stash of stuff when Hamilton really became hot and he was like on a lot of magazine covers and stuff, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and I'd saved a bunch of these magazines and they were in my basement of him on covers.
I did a bit, if you go back, if you look through every single one of Lin-Manuel Miranda's posts, you will find a comment from yours truly where I was at a house party and I was like doing this bet with the people that I was talking to that I was like, if I comment on Lin-Manuel Miranda's most recent Instagram post and I say, "Hey, love your work, let's get coffee sometime," then that will actually be something that comes to fruition. He never responded, of course, but I really did believe that. I was like, Lin-Manuel Miranda seems like an accessible celebrity, you know what I mean?
[29:31] Kassie Lind: Oh, you have the best odds of running into him since you live in proximity to him.
[29:38] Maggie Lind: Oh, I've passed him on the street before, for sure.
[29:46] Kassie Lind: Oh, what? Oh yes, I've, uh, Lin-Manuel walked by.
[29:54] Maggie Lind: I don't know what I'm saying.
[29:59] Kassie Lind: You win, Manuel Miranda into him.
[30:04] Maggie Lind: Exactly, and that's front runner for title of that. And that's terrible that... No, I think that's perfect. But no, I really thought that he would respond and we would get coffee and we would have a grand old time, but we did not.
[30:12] Kassie Lind: Wait, sorry that happened to you.
[30:18] Maggie Lind: Thanks. And on a public forum, no less. People saw me comment that and to know, and to know, Cigar Lynn, if you're listening, the offer is still open, Lynn. I know you're a loyal listener. I know you're a patron, no less.
[30:28] Kassie Lind: Maggie, what do you think about Total Eclipse of the Heart?
[30:37] Maggie Lind: I enjoyed it. I also, here's the thing, I enjoyed it in a way that I felt nothing from it. And here, I know that sounds terrible, but it was just like, I don't know, like plain, boring, boring, plain. I don't know, it was just...
[30:52] Kassie Lind: Were you bored?
[30:52] Maggie Lind: A little bit. I was more entertained watching Cassie's reaction to the ballet dancers because Cassie did ballet and pointe for a millennia, so I knew she had about that. And Cassie won a Corbin Bleu contest.
[31:07] Kassie Lind: Yeah, that was just hip-hop.
[31:07] Maggie Lind: Yeah, that wasn't ballet. But I just, I couldn't not look at Jay Graff. But I don't know, what about this performance like really speaks to you, Andrew? Like how is this performance of Rachel like doing the closed-eye smashing, squinting her eyes together, like belty thing and like putting one hand up to her heart? How is that different than any other time that she does it?
[31:20] Andrew: I think for a number of reasons, I'm so glad that you asked. I think that the owl sweater is doing a lot of heavy lifting.
[31:44] Kassie Lind: It really is. The owl sweater is really inspired. The wardrobe team really popped off with that find. I know when they found that owl sweater, they were like, "Oh my god, there it is." And also like the cuts to the ballet portion of it, I just think that it's just like so creatively put together. And like also like that it's like almost like, I always, I don't actually know, maybe you guys know, what is the definition of melodramatic? Is this melodramatic?
[32:21] Maggie Lind: I think so, right? Isn't melodramatic essentially being overdramatic?
[32:26] Kassie Lind: That's what I'm thinking. So like this is melodrama, right?
[32:33] Maggie Lind: Yeah, yeah, I would say. Well, melodramatic means showing way too much emotion or acting like a small problem is a huge crisis. That's just me in general.
[32:38] Kassie Lind: Oh, that's Rachel, baby, right? And that's like, that's when you triple book your boyfriend in a music video and then everyone's mad at you, so you sing Total Eclipse of the Heart.
[32:47] Andrew: Okay, well then we have to ask the age-old question, Andrew. Ballet scene, canon event happening in real life or all up in the noggin? What do we think?
[33:01] Kassie Lind: This is a new bit, Cassie.
[33:06] Cassie Lind: Alright, so I think it really happened. I think it's fun to think that it really happened, especially for characters Rachel and Jesse that have to get so much out dramatically that like they would like not be satisfied with doing just all of it in the choir room. They were like, "Actually, can we do that again in the ballet room, in the dance room?"
[33:20] Andrew: And to really square things off with us, right?
[33:26] Cassie Lind: Yeah, yeah, well because they wanted to be very well-rounded when they go to Broadway, so they're taking dance lessons outside of school.
[33:31] Maggie Lind: Yeah, I mean they have like multiple episodes.
[33:37] Cassie Lind: Yeah, yeah, so yeah, it definitely happened. Should Rachel have been allowed to put pointe shoes on ever?
[33:43] Maggie Lind: No, because her feet were so awful.
[33:46] Kassie Lind: Whatever, I was just gonna ask who decided, "Let's put Leah Michele in pointe shoes," who has clearly never had a day of pointe training in her life? Was one careless and two really hated Leah Michele because she could have so easily broken an ankle without any training?
[34:01] Maggie Lind: Pointe is hard. Her feet looked awful, but like I thought she had some foundation.
[34:10] Kassie Lind: What do you mean by when her feet looked awful? What does that mean?
[34:17] Maggie Lind: Oh my god, okay, Andrew, Cassie did ballet in pointe for like...
[34:22] Kassie Lind: Okay, wait, is that too big of a question to be asking? I'm sorry.
[34:27] Maggie Lind: No, it's just like when you, you probably don't even realize it because like ballet literally does things with the way that you position your hands and your feet to like be most like aesthetically pleasing to your brain and you don't even realize it's happening. But like in a pointe shoe, there's like this curve that happens to your foot, right? And it creates this like better, more elongated line, whereas like she wasn't all the way up on like the shoes, so it was just like this like weird straight. It wasn't her legs weren't making a nice elongated never-ending line is what Cassie's trying to say. And so like she just like wasn't all the way up on her shoes, which is like really, really bad technique and clearly like she didn't have the strength to like go all the way.
And so it's like dangerous and it just looks bad. But what also was frustrating to me is that even when she wasn't on pointe, she wasn't pointing her toes like a regular dancer would do. So like when he was lifting her, her feet were just like flapping about and I'm like, "Oh my god, this is so painful to watch." Whoever like choreographed this, they must have like tried to give her notes, but she like sucked so bad that they were like, "I'm just gonna stop."
[35:35] Andrew: Wow, you would try to fix that. You would tell her like number one of dance is like point your feet. It's like whoever choreographed that and taught it had to have told her that and she just like didn't do it, so they were like, "I'm just gonna stop telling her because she's not gonna do it."
[35:44] Cassie Lind: Andrew, what about Jonathan Groff's jump at the beginning? Was that good?
[35:48] Maggie Lind: It looked nice. I didn't even pay attention to it because I get so distracted by his beautiful face and hair, so I didn't pay attention to that part.
[35:59] Kassie Lind: So Leah Michele, you're listening to this and you don't have a beautiful face or hair, so...
[36:05] Maggie Lind: Oh, I didn't mean it like that.
[36:12] Kassie Lind: Oh, I was so distracted by her. I was so distracted by her awful feet.
[36:20] Maggie Lind: I'm sorry, Leah Michele, but your feet, yikes girl.
[36:26] Kassie Lind: What is Leah Michele's wiki feet rating? Let's see.
[36:39] Maggie Lind: Not, it's probably...
[36:46] Kassie Lind: Oh, you're gonna put that in your browser, Andrew? Why not? Why not? Why not?
[36:50] Maggie Lind: Leah Michele, you already outed yourself as an Omegle kid, so you're willing to do anything on the internet apparently.
[36:59] Kassie Lind: Yeah, oh my gosh, 4.92 out of five.
[37:04] Maggie Lind: Out of ten?
[37:05] Kassie Lind: Oh, sorry, yeah, out of five.
[37:09] Maggie Lind: Oh, that's really good. She's got good feet.
[37:15] Kassie Lind: So you better eat your words.
[37:20] Maggie Lind: Yeah, but not like dance feet. I'm gonna get a still of this compared to like what a foot should look like, Andrew, and I'm gonna send it to you and you are gonna put it on the carousel for the promotion of this just because I'm holding a knife to Andrew's throat, please.
[37:29] Kassie Lind: And we're gonna tackle Michelle and she's gonna be like, "Wait, I actually kind of got meaned up by these."
[37:34] Maggie Lind: Yeah, yeah, so not to just like go on a complete tangent about that, but that really took me out of the moment when I was watching it. Like I loved the parts in the classroom when everybody was making awkward eye contact, you know, and they're like really singing at a person. I love those songs. I love that they're also, yeah, they're singing with, they're the choir and they're like kind of like reluctantly like, "What's going on?" kind of thing. Yeah, and then Argon is just like completely sitting to the side staring at Puck, you know, and so it's like I just, I love that part. But then every time we'd go to the dancing, I was just like, "I can't keep myself together because of how bad it was." But I would love to hear opinions of people who don't have that distraction because that really killed it for me.
[38:01] Kassie Lind: I'm sorry, I'm just like not over just referring to Quinn as Argon over here in the corner just looking over at Puck.
[38:09] Maggie Lind: Wait, I feel like, okay, wait, so Cassie, there were like a number of things in this performance kind of working against the performance, if I'm not mistaken, right?
[38:14] Cassie Lind: Yeah, it's not like I love this. The vocals and the song, loved it, but the performance was rough for me in the dance part.
[38:28] Maggie Lind: Another positive for me, since I feel like I came out the gate real negative, Matt Rutherford was there and you know that anytime he's in a performance, I'll point him out, baby.
[38:32] Kassie Lind: Who's Matt Rutherford? Is that the Lord?
[38:38] Maggie Lind: We don't have the time to get into this with Cassie.
[38:44] Kassie Lind: No, no, we do. We have the time.
[38:50] Maggie Lind: Cassie, Matt is one of the football players that just fills up the Glee Club. He only has three lines.
[38:56] Kassie Lind: Okay, yeah.
[39:04] Maggie Lind: Is that the one that looks kind of like a puppy?
[39:07] Kassie Lind: What's it, Matthew? He kind of does look like a puppy.
[39:10] Maggie Lind: Yeah, that's such a good...
[39:15] Kassie Lind: Oh, yep, yeah, the guy who looks like a puppy. He reminds me of like if he were to turn into a character, he'd be someone in like Goofy Movie or something. I don't know.
[39:20] Maggie Lind: Yeah, I love that.
[39:24] Kassie Lind: Okay, so we have any final notes on Total Eclipse of the Heart? I really love the conversation that we just had around it. We hit everything. It was kind of crazy.
[39:27] Maggie Lind: What can you expect with this kind of psychotic?
[39:32] Kassie Lind: Okay, against Total Eclipse of the Heart is...
[39:37] Maggie Lind: Oh, oh, season four. Oh, Cassie, you must have heard about this song because you didn't watch season four, did you?
[39:43] Cassie Lind: I think I've watched it all the way through. I just only watched the later seasons once.
[39:49] Maggie Lind: Oh, so like, whereas like, you know when you go and re-watch a show, you kind of always start from season one, or at least I do, so then you always know like the earlier seasons better.
[39:55] Kassie Lind: Yeah, and I was like more hardcore in the early seasons because I had not a lot of other...
[40:07] Maggie Lind: Oh wait, is this Turkey Lurkey Time or whatever it is?
[40:14] Kassie Lind: Let's have a kiki, let's have a turkey lurkey. We were recently talking about this song. I'm gonna poop in my pants, you guys. Oh my god, I'm so excited.
[40:19] Kassie Lind: Cassie, you have seen that before?
[40:19] Cassie Lind: I have seen it, yes. What do you think about it?
[41:10] Kassie: So here's what I'll say, you know, last last song I said, Lea Michele, not quite as hot as Jonathan Groff, but I forget in these later seasons that Lea Michele really steps up her game.
[41:20] Maggie: Oh, yeah.
[41:22] Kassie: She steps her glitzy up for sure.
[41:23] Maggie: Yeah, yeah, yeah. The hair and the dress and it was really working for me.
[41:28] Kassie: So I like that. I like Let's Have a Kiki. I have to think, bringing it back to gummies, that someone had to have been high when they were like, you guys, let's put together Let's Have a Kiki and Turkey Lurkey and see what happens.
[41:44] Kassie: Turkey Kiki time. I literally it wasn't until like my most recent watch of this episode that I really understood that they they did set the groundwork for why Rachel sings Turkey Lurkey time. And I guess I just like glossed over it over all these years, but it really like I finally figured it out. So Rachel has like a line before they all show up. And she's like, yeah, it's my first Thanksgiving without my dad's. We usually like sing like show tunes every year on Thanksgiving. And so like, I'm gonna miss that this year. And so like, that's the reason maybe I'm major dumbass. And like, everybody already realized this. But like, that's the reason that like, she's singing Turkey Lurkey time because like, I feel like the discourse is like, why the fuck did she start singing Turkey Lurkey time? But it's like, no, they literally like tell you that. Yeah, she's missing her dad's and she wants to feel their presence. So anyway,
[42:50] Maggie: that is such beauty on screen. The choreography is like iconic.
[43:03] Kassie: Yeah, it's I so Sex and the City is one of my favorite shows of all time. And I have been trying to watch more Sarah Jessica Parker repertoire that's not Sex and the City. I recently this past weekend watched Failure to Launch which is a romcom with her and Matthew McConaughey. And I'm not gonna lie until Turkey Lurkey, let's have a Kiki I kind of like completely forgot like it escaped my memory.
[43:24] Maggie: Matthew McConaughey. Why do I think it was like Hugh Grant? No,
[43:28] Kassie: no, it's Matthew McConaughey. I just watched it. Okay, okay. And his mom is played by Kathy Bates. And she's very young. Bradley Cooper's in it and he like is a very small role, which is also weird. Zooey Deschanel is in it.
[43:43] Maggie: Wait, I watched this on a plane. Yes, you're right. It is. Yeah, it is a good plane flick. Um, but I kind of just like completely forgot she was in Glee. I'm not gonna lie. Um, it does really like I can't see her as anything other than Carrie. Because this is a very Carrie dress. It looks like she was styled as something that Carrie would have worn in and just like that. The Sex and the City reboot. And oh, they know. Oh, yeah. I just really love this performance. I think that Brody should have just been like completely erased. I know he had to be there as a love interest for Rachel and moving the narrative along here with her, you know, being sad and, you know, whatever, showing Brody to this world.
But he just is like, every time he comes on screen, I'm like, he's just bothers me. I don't know what it I can't even formulate or like articulate words on why I don't like him in this performance, because he doesn't do anything. And there's only probably three, but he moves, he moves the song along. He literally asked, What is a kiki? Which Kurt responds to kiki is a party for calming all your nerves. Like, okay, fine, vital part of Andrew, quit being a bitch. You've been a bitch tonight.
[45:00] Andrew: I'm being a bitch. Okay, we're fighting.
[45:03] Kassie: Um, fight, fight, fight. It's been a bitch tonight.
[45:06] Maggie: Oh, it's been a bitch tonight. I love walking up the subway, the subway stairs. And I think like, the two extras in front of her, like, they're holding like a pie covered in saran wrap.
[45:19] Kassie: Yeah, it's just it's perfect. It's perfect. Do you think if all the stars aligned in such a strange way, that this song could win the Glackett? Because I genuinely think that it might?
[45:29] Maggie: Yeah, I've never I've never heard anyone's utter one bad word about this performance on the entire time that you've been doing this podcast?
[45:42] Kassie: Well, I think that like the normies are saying the same thing that I said earlier that it's like, why did Rachel start singing Turkey Lurkey time, which is like kind of like a boring opinion to have that it's like, yeah, that is lame. Lame show. Um, so I think I think if you're thinking of it like a Glee mashup, you know, Glee is notorious for the mashups. And this is like, if you just think about it like a mashup, it's kind of a weird one. Like, yeah, the smoothest flow. So I could see like the argument for that ultimately, but I feel like it's such like a fun like, um, I don't know, I feel like it's hard to argue against, like, whenever it comes up against something, it's like always like, Oh, this one, this is so much fun.
[46:30] Maggie: Yeah, yeah, it's hard to, to top that.
[46:32] Kassie: It does feel like gummy induced, though. That, like, there no one sober was behind this decision. No one in there. It was probably the same person who said, let's put Lea Michele in pointe shoes. It was probably that same exact person if we were, if we were to track it down.
[46:47] Maggie: Yeah. Um, I'm thinking about the downstairs neighbors. Um, during this performance, I'm thinking about like, it's an industrial garage. Yeah. I'm thinking about the fact that it's literally Thanksgiving. And I'm like, what if they're like in the middle of saying grace when there's like, little parts of ceiling falling right into the gravy?
[47:07] Kassie: Yeah. Yeah. Um, yeah, I'm thinking about that. Um, I just like have so much fun watching this. I think it's like, what a what a perfect performance that they put together here. No bad. I have a legal question, Andrew, for you, because I don't know the answer. So it's not a legal note. It's a legal question. There isn't a single mashup on Glee that they mash the words together, right? It's always just one name of a song slash the other name of the song.
[48:03] Andrew: Oh, they only did that once. And it was a song that was not in an episode. It was a mashup of Deck the Halls and Up on the Rooftop, which they said, they called it Deck the Rooftop. So of all the times you're going to do it, that's one to waste it on because time was there. So yeah, I agree. Interesting.
[48:13] Kassie: I have a technical question as someone who doesn't listen a lot. So what how do people weigh it when it comes to because here's the here's what I'm thinking is like, the first song Total Eclipse of the Heart. Like if I'm closing my eyes and listening to it, I the music I like better from the first one. But the second one, the like performance, Cassie's getting right into it. Yeah, it's a lot better. So like, how does that usually weigh with other guests? Like do they talk about that? And like, how should I be reading that in my mind?
[48:48] Andrew: Yeah, you know? Yeah. Some people might be annoyed by Cassie asking this, but it's honestly probably a good time to revisit this conversation for the for this round. Honestly, yes. Yeah. Because you're saying you're saying the that the mp3 for Total Eclipse of the Heart is stronger mp3 wise of Let's Have a Kiki. Let's Have a Turkey.
[49:07] Kassie: Yeah. Yeah. Because like, I like the I like the first that like the energy and like the vibe if you're watching the video or like dancing along with it is more fun with Let's Have a Kiki Turkey Turkey Time. But if I'm just like listening to it in my car, I'm probably gonna like Total Eclipse of the Heart better. You know? Do you think Total Eclipse of the Heart? Glee version? Glee cast version by Glee cast is better than the original?
[49:36] Andrew: I like it better. Yeah. Oh, okay. And that's a big point.
[49:40] Kassie: Baby girl just died to Bonnie Tyler is sorry.
[49:44] Maggie: The music video for the original is kind of funny.
[49:49] Kassie: Oh, it's crazy. But she's like, why do I feel like she's like running up steps?
[49:54] Maggie: Yeah, there's Yeah, there's lots of fog machines happening. There's a pair.
[50:02] Kassie: Yeah, yes. Um, but wait, so Cassie, do you feel like you know what you're gonna vote for? Or you feel conflicted?
[50:27] Kassie: No, I like that was an actual question, because I don't know, like, how much to weight it in my mind. Because I feel like the obvious answer is like, Turkey Lurkey, Let's Have a Kiki. But like, I want to really think about it and not let the fact that like, Maggie almost had an aneurysm when you started playing it, like affect my feelings about it. I think that something to keep in mind here is that thinking that a song, a Glee cast version is better than the OG is like goat status to me. Like, I don't think that many Glee songs are better than the original. I shouldn't say that many. But it's it's a shorter list than I think a lot of people probably have for me personally. So I think maybe that should weigh into your decision.
I think that what would you want to listen to right now again, if we had to play one song again, now to listen to again, or that might be a factor that you if this was coming up and shuffling in your playlist, which one would you rather hear just like randomly? Come on, that might be a factor. All of these questions you have kind of answered already. But Andrew, as the foremost Glexpert on this recording right now, what what are you feeling? Where's your mind at going into round five? Like, what are you feeling around four? What are you feeling?
[51:46] Andrew: Um, I just like how you're making these decisions, just like straight up vibes. I feel like I'm looking for something that's like, different than the original that it like has the Glee touch is applied to the song. And I think that that not to say that, you know, one of these songs doesn't have both of these songs have the Glee touch applied for sure.
[52:10] Kassie: Glee touch is a really good thing to think about. And I like that a lot.
[52:15] Andrew: Yeah, yeah. Um, where like, where I think that like, Total Eclipse of the Heart has the Glee touch, because it's like melodramatic, as we were saying, that it's like, the outfits that you can see Kurt wearing his little like beanie palm hat in the background.
[52:31] Kassie: Yes.
[52:31] Andrew: Mike Chang was leaning awkwardly on a chair in a way that was very precarious that I thought he was gonna fall at any second. There was a human puppy. Argon was staring at Argon.
[52:43] Kassie: Yeah, yeah. Whereas like with Let's Have a Kiki that it's like a what a it seems like almost a rare obscurity that it's like in a in a later season, season four, that like you can still capture the inspiration that this show had to offer within this performance.
[53:05] Kassie: Do people like rise for Total Eclipse of the Heart? Like, are people going to be mad if it doesn't win? Not saying it's not gonna. It doesn't look like it is. But I think that more people would be mad if Let's Have a Kiki didn't win.
[53:17] Andrew: That's okay. That should not weigh your opinion. I mean, they're already mad at me. So if I feel like there is a strong group that are like Total Eclipse of the Heart heads, Total Eclipse of the Heart heads. And I feel like they are going to rise from the ashes and like smite us if we don't pick it. Honestly, like I feel like they might be kind of mad.
[53:41] Kassie: You think so? Maybe not. Maybe I'm just projecting.
[53:46] Andrew: I'm curious. I, I have a feeling I know what's gonna happen.
[53:51] Kassie: Do you want to vote? Is that what you're saying?
[53:53] Andrew: I think that I do want to vote for Let's Have a Kiki.
[54:01] Kassie: Yes, I know that actually. I'm also voting for Let's Have a Kiki. So Cassie's vote doesn't matter, which is good because she was the most conflicted.
[54:04] Maggie: Oh, I was I'm gonna say Let's Have a Kiki.
[54:09] Kassie: You were always. I thought about it. What I what really swayed me is the
[54:12] Andrew: Glee-ifiedness. I just think that if you're... See, I've never been a girl that gets "Run Joy Run." "Run Joy Run" was not made for me. I can respect the camp of it. I just think, like, having them in the same episode, if you need a melodramatic song that has a Glee touch, you can have "Run Joy Run." But I don't think that "Run Joy Run" is melodramatic. I think that "Run Joy Run" is high camp. I think that, like, that's... How are they not... How are they not one in the same? No, I think that it's... Can you be one without the other? I think that... Like, I think that "Total Eclipse of the Heart," they're like two sides of the same coin. Where it's like, you're... With "Run Joy Run," you're overacting, and you know that you're overacting.
Whereas, with "Total Eclipse of the Heart," they are overacting, and you believe that it's coming from a true place within them. You know what I mean? Like, because also, when they're doing "Run Joy Run," they know that they're performing for camera. So, like, it's a bit different. Do you know what I'm saying?
[55:06] Kassie: Fine. Yeah, I know what you're saying. I just, like... She just doesn't agree. You know that thing that's like... You hate me. A rhombus is a square, but a square isn't always a rhombus, or something of that nature. They're just, like, birds of the same feather to me. I don't know if that has a large part to do because they're in the same episode.
[55:36] Andrew: No, I think that's a very valid point. Or it's just the drama of Lea Michele, and what she brings to every performance, whether she's acting for camera or not. I just think, like... I think that it's her time to rest. I think it's her time to rest.
[55:53] Kassie: Totally fine. Yes. And it really is. Wow. Okay. I really liked both of our conversations around both those songs. Should we do it one more time with two more songs?
[56:05] Andrew: Oh, that's a great idea. Andrew, did you actually? Or is this just for the bit? Because I can't tell.
[56:09] Kassie: No, I really did enjoy... I thought we had good conversations. I thought that was, like, really intellectual Gleek vibes.
[56:16] Andrew: Oh, okay.
[56:17] Kassie: Yeah. Glyntellectual.
[56:19] Andrew: Glyntellectual. Coming at you hot.
[56:21] Kassie: Okay.
[56:22] Andrew: Oh.
[56:23] Kassie: We're sad.
[56:25] Andrew: We're sad.
[56:26] Kassie: We're sad.
[56:27] Andrew: We're sad.
[56:28] Kassie: I just love hearing his, like, one-word responses and his, like, facial reaction. There's not any songs from "The Quarterback" left, right?
[56:34] Andrew: There is one, but it's not this.
[56:36] Kassie: Okay. Is it "Seasons of Love" or which one is it?
[56:38] Andrew: "Seasons of Love" is the only song from "The Quarterback" left.
[56:42] Kassie: Oh, look at me. I'm such a good Gleek.
[56:44] Andrew: You're such a good Gleek. You're getting an A+.
[56:46] Kassie: You guys are wild. Think... You guys have so much Glee knowledge in your brain.
[56:51] Andrew: It's not how much Glee knowledge. It's Gleek of the Week knowledge.
[56:54] Kassie: What percentage of your brain do you think is Gleek of the Week knowledge, then?
[56:59] Andrew: Oh, a lot. I mean, I've listened to every damn episode.
[57:02] Kassie: Oh, and I've listened to every damn episode at least twice because I'm editing.
[57:09] Andrew: I kind of want to restart. I'm not even joking, Andrew.
[57:11] Kassie: No, don't you dare. That would be crazy.
[57:13] Andrew: No, no, no, no, no, no. No, because here's the thing, Andrew. I'm sorry. I know you're going to want to pull up this song, but we have to talk about this.
[57:18] Kassie: No, you're fine. It is a matter of life or death. There are so many new Glisteners out here, and they do not even know the lore of Alison the Dodge. And I think that they need to go back. If they're just joining, and I know you talked about how you've had people in your DMs asking, like, should I start from the beginning? I'm a new Gleek of the Week listener. And you tell them to start from the beginning.
[57:39] Andrew: I don't think it's fine.
[57:40] Kassie: No, you need to go to the beginning. And you need to listen. I am a purist. I am. I honestly think because of the nature of your show, you should start at the beginning. The vibes of you and Alison at the beginning... Scary, actually. ...of this journey were so frightening in a way that nobody could predict. It was honestly crazy.
[58:03] Andrew: What a great way of putting it.
[58:05] Kassie: Frightening in a way that nobody could predict. It truly is. No, and I'm thinking specifically about that Prom Queen spoiler episode. That was frightening in a way that no one could predict.
[58:19] Andrew: No, it's not. No shade. There were some guys that came on that just, like, they thought this was going to be different. I've talked about this before.
[58:30] Kassie: Yes.
[58:31] Andrew: But anyway. What I have here is... Let me see. What season?
[58:37] Kassie: Season 2. You already know what it is.
[58:39] Andrew: I'm going to pee my pants.
[58:42] Kassie: "Landslide."
[58:43] Andrew: "Landslide."
[58:45] Kassie: Cassie, wait, do you have context for this?
[58:47] Andrew: Yes, I know this.
[58:49] Kassie: I can't say my feelings about it right now because we just have to watch it. Let's watch it first.
[58:53] Andrew: Smash the play button. Here we go.
[58:56] Kassie: Smash the play button.
[58:58] Andrew: Okay.
[58:59] Kassie: It's a perfect song.
[59:01] Andrew: Literally. Perfect.
[59:04] Kassie: Let's leave the discourse there, actually.
[59:07] Andrew: Yep, and pull the next song.
[59:10] Kassie: Let's see what it's against.
[59:14] Andrew: The Chicks' arrangement?
[59:16] Kassie: Better than Fleetwood Mac version?
[59:19] Andrew: I'm sorry, y'all. I totally agree. It is.
[59:22] Kassie: I do love a good Stevie Nicks song.
[59:24] Andrew: I fuck with Fleetwood Mac, but you guys, the Chicks' arrangement is so, so wonderful.
[59:29] Kassie: It's just more folksy.
[59:31] Andrew: It's folksy in a way that the original "Landslide"...
[59:34] Kassie: I like the...
[59:35] Andrew: Yeah.
[59:36] Kassie: And the...
[59:37] Andrew: Maybe.
[59:38] Kassie: Yes, the layer.
[59:39] Andrew: Maybe.
[59:40] Kassie: Yes.
[59:41] Andrew: And then they're like...
[59:42] Kassie: I don't know what that was, but yes.
[59:44] Andrew: Oh, no. There's a part where... You know, closer to the end, I think it's... I don't know if it's Santana or Brittany.
[59:50] Kassie: They raise it up just a little bit in the word.
[59:53] Andrew: Oh, yeah.
[59:54] Kassie: Yeah, that arrangement. "Landslide bring you down."
[59:57] Andrew: Yeah.
[59:58] Kassie: Down.
[1:00:00] Andrew: It's just so, so perfect.
[1:00:03] Kassie: I was getting teary-eyed watching it. I absolutely love this song. It was one of the songs that when it came out, I would just play that singular song on repeat in my car.
[1:00:14] Andrew: And you're talking about the Gleek version.
[1:00:16] Kassie: Yes.
[1:00:17] Andrew: Yes.
[1:00:18] Kassie: Over and over and over again. I have a little bit of like a Santana bias because I feel like her voice... Not... Because she's amazing. But her range is close to what I felt I could sing. And so I loved her songs the best because I felt like I could sing them. And I just... I was obsessed with this song. Obsessed with it. And I would listen to it over and over and over. And I tried to sing the different pieces of the harmonizing and stuff. And you just... You gotta love a little woman-loving woman action going on. WLW, baby.
[1:00:55] Andrew: WLW.
[1:00:58] Kassie: Do you think Miss Goop was actually playing the guitar? Do you think she knows how to play the guitar?
[1:01:03] Andrew: She learned the guitar for this episode behind the scenes.
[1:01:06] Kassie: Yes.
[1:01:07] Andrew: Oh, okay.
[1:01:08] Kassie: Okay, Miss Goop. I see you. And also I think it's fun. I've definitely brought this up before. But the fact that they're doing the Chicks' arrangement of this song when Stevie Nicks is on set. I think it's such a gag. And she's like, wait a minute. Why aren't you doing my version? No, but I love the Naya vocal.
[1:01:32] Andrew: Oh, my God.
[1:01:33] Kassie: And that's not included in the official mp3 where she gets the little half a verse to herself. That's not in the mp3. It's only in the episode version. And I think it's so special. I could literally write an essay about this entire song.
[1:01:52] Andrew: I think we also need to acknowledge the number one Glee Club supporter, Artie Abrams. He is always fucking vibing to his friend's songs. That's at moments like that when I'm like, that's Kevin McHale.
[1:02:08] Kassie: Yeah, that's literally Artie's girlfriend singing to her best friend. He doesn't care.
[1:02:16] Andrew: Yeah, he's like, wait, I know a good song and I hear it.
[1:02:20] Kassie: I know WLW.
[1:02:22] Andrew: WLW.
[1:02:24] Kassie: He just is always like, he's just like, loves good music. And he loves watching his talented friends sing beautiful songs. And I try to think sometimes what the song would be like if it wasn't Holly Holiday.
[1:02:41] Andrew: If it was Pertana.
[1:02:43] Kassie: Let's not even say it's Pertana. Let's put someone else in there. What if it was like Will? Do you think that would completely change the vibes?
[1:02:53] Andrew: Really? If you say Will, if it was like another woman, maybe it'd be fine.
[1:02:58] Kassie: Why does it have to be women?
[1:02:59] Andrew: I mean, I get it's like a whole moment between these characters who have obvious feelings for each other. But like, it just would ruin the vibe.
[1:03:06] Kassie: Well, I'm like, Will, just even the clip. I have weird feelings about Matthew Morrison.
[1:03:15] Andrew: What if it was Artie? Because he can play the guitar. So what if he was just like they're providing a little acoustic accoutrement?
[1:03:22] Kassie: I'd actually probably be okay with that. But I wouldn't want him being the main person singing the whole time.
[1:03:26] Andrew: But it's not even about like, just like fill in the blank character. It's also the context.
[1:03:32] Kassie: Right, that's what I'm saying.
[1:03:33] Andrew: Yeah, I know. But besides the part that Gwyneth Paltrow has at the beginning, that's on her, it kind of like zooms out the others to Britannia and mainly focuses on them pretty much the rest of the song. And I just like think it'd be interesting if it would like still have the same vibes if it was a different person, because it doesn't necessarily focus on her, even though she's the leading vocalist. It doesn't feel like she is.
[1:04:00] Kassie: I guess that's what I'm trying to say.
[1:04:01] Andrew: Well, and I think part of that is because like, she can sing, but it's not like overpowering. I think if you have someone in there who has a really, really strong voice, it would overpower everything and it would like ruin it.
[1:04:12] Kassie: Yeah.
[1:04:13] Andrew: If it was like Rachel in the middle, and she was like, and maybe, you know.
[1:04:20] Kassie: Well, that's why I think Artie would be a good choice, because I think Kevin McHale's voice is very complimentary to the people that he's around when he's doing performances.
[1:04:29] Andrew: I just love this. The only thing that would make it even a fraction better is if like Brittany was wearing some type of like weird ass outfit, like eggs and bacon or something.
[1:04:40] Kassie: Oh, you'd love that.
[1:04:41] Andrew: That would be so.
[1:04:42] Kassie: I do love eggs and bacon. For those who get it, they get it. And for those who don't, they don't. But yeah, I just love this song. It's so good. It's really, really special.
[1:04:54] Andrew: No, and I've already talked my ass. So this song is really interesting, because like I have definitely already talked my ass about it a number of times before, and I don't want to like kind of regurgitate the same sentiment. I'm just thinking about like all the kind of like bullet points that I feel about this song. I'm trying to be also like a little open minded, because like "Landslide" is arguably like one of the best songs ever made.
[1:05:25] Kassie: Yeah.
[1:05:26] Andrew: So it's also like it's like also going to like have a little bit of Cassie said it like bias points, because it's just like in a phenomenal song. Like it is an incredible not even like Gleecast version. Gleecast version is obviously amazing, but like just "Landslide" on its own is one of the best songs ever written.
[1:05:45] Kassie: And she wrote it while she was like in her 20s.
[1:05:48] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:05:49] Kassie: I saw a tweet once that said, if you ever want to feel bad about yourself, just remember Stevie Nicks wrote "Landslide" at 24.
[1:05:55] Andrew: Yeah, same.
[1:05:56] Kassie: And I was like, I do feel bad. When you see a 24 year old on the street, it's like, wait, you.
[1:06:01] Andrew: That always fucks me up that it's like that.
[1:06:06] Kassie: I'm looking at a 24 year old.
[1:06:08] Andrew: That wrote "Landslide"?
[1:06:09] Kassie: That wrote "Landslide"?
[1:06:10] Andrew: No.
[1:06:11] Kassie: Not on my watch.
[1:06:13] Andrew: Not on my watch.
[1:06:14] Kassie: Yeah.
[1:06:16] Andrew: But literally, oh my God, means the world to me this entire song. And I just, I really do love, the thing that I will say that is like, I think that people try to get down on this song.
[1:06:30] Kassie: Maybe.
[1:06:31] Andrew: Maybe I'm just making this up. I don't know. That like people try to get down on this song because it's Gwyneth Paltrow singing it instead of just being like a tried and true Britannia duet. And I think that it's just like, it's actually so important for someone that is like very liberated, like Holly Holiday. That is like, that is like guiding unapologetically these two young women into finding themselves.
[1:07:01] Kassie: And, and she's like literally giving a voice to these girls that are figuring out the people that they're going to be.
[1:07:09] Andrew: And so you have, you've said that before, because I remember when you've said it, when the song has been pulled before, I was like, that is an incredible way to put it. And I've never thought about it that way. So I remember thinking that the first time you said it. It was actually quite beautiful.
[1:07:23] Kassie: Oh, you just said that. Thank you.
[1:07:25] Andrew: She's a vehicle for which.
[1:07:27] Kassie: She's a vehicle.
[1:07:28] Andrew: In which them to find themselves for sure. And like, you can like see kind of like the uncomfortability within Naya and Heather's performance, which I think is like, so it's like so translated as an audience member that it's like these girls that are just like, Oh my God.
[1:07:46] Kassie: Are we doing this? What is going on? The fear of going into the future with one another.
[1:07:53] Maggie: Oh my god, there's just so much here. I just really, really love it. And I'm also, at the same time, really, really scared of what it's going to be up against.
[1:08:05] Kassie: I'm not.
[1:08:06] Maggie: You're not?
[1:08:08] Kassie: I have a feeling we're going to get a mid.
[1:08:11] Maggie: There's not many mids left.
[1:08:13] Kassie: I know there isn't, but I'm just manifesting that it's going to be the few remaining. That's how confident I am.
[1:08:21] Andrew: Cassie, do you have thoughts?
[1:08:24] Kassie: These have all been so good so far, though I'm just like, I forget that we're so deep into the glacket that it is like really good songs now. So it's hard.
[1:08:36] Maggie: Wait, I wanted to ask, one of the things that I wrote down was, I went to a wedding over the weekend and I was thinking of what I would like to incorporate into my own damn wedding. I would love for this song to be incorporated somehow, but is this song kind of too Sad Girl vibe? Is this not a wedding song? Andrew, do you know the song Wildflowers by Tom Petty?
[1:09:06] Andrew: I probably do.
[1:09:08] Maggie: You would know it if you heard it. It's a sad, it's a big sad boy song. It's essentially about, I interpret it as letting go of someone you lost. I view it as death, but I guess it could be breakups or whatever. I wanted that to be another competitor against Teenage Dream season four. First dance song at my wedding and my husband was like, that song is really, really depressing.
[1:09:33] Kassie: Yeah.
[1:09:34] Maggie: So it might be a little sad just because I feel like it's like, not sad boy, you could have it be like a slow dance, because you need just like a sprinkle of, you need a sprinkle of slow dances in a wedding reception. I know a lot of people don't like slow dances, but y'all, you have to have at least a few so that people can go hydrate and snack up.
[1:09:51] Kassie: I mean, I feel like two is kind of max.
[1:09:55] Maggie: I think two. Oh, 100%. The way that you do a wedding reception, all right, I'm an expert here, you do one absolute fucking banger at the beginning to get people on the dance floor. Everyone's gonna love it. A timeless, just like incredible, absolute banger. Then you play the songs that the oldies are still at the wedding for.
[1:10:17] Kassie: Wait, so sorry. What was the number one banger that got people to the floor?
[1:10:21] Maggie: Okay, I was hoping that you wouldn't ask me that because...
[1:10:23] Kassie: Oh, I'm so sorry.
[1:10:25] Maggie: At my wedding, it was going to the chapel.
[1:10:32] Kassie: No, it's not. It's not a banger because but I didn't pick it. I literally told my DJ to he asked what we wanted to do for like the vibes of our wedding. And I just said take all requests. Yeah, just take all requests. Because if they're requesting it, that's what people want to dance to. So I don't care what you play just take. So the first song, obviously, no one had requested anything. So he went a little off the books, and it was a little cuckoo bananas. Okay, but we reigned it back in. But I don't know, like, like, I almost wanted to say something like Katy Perry, but I think it's just because I have teenage dream on that.
[1:11:06] Kassie: I think I'm like, like a TGIF maybe or like song that that brought people to the dance floor from not mistaken over the weekend that I went to was staying alive, which I think is like kind of like, that's a good one.
[1:11:19] Maggie: The problem with the oldies, though, is like, I think that it's like, sometimes he was a little cringy. Like if you do like a staying alive or like a dancing queen, dancing queen, I think it was the song literally after it. Yeah.
[1:11:34] Kassie: Yeah, well, you play the oldies at the beginning, because that's when the older people are usually still at the reception. And then once you get to the end, you're playing like, I don't know, you're playing BoB, you're playing Kesha. Yeah.
[1:11:47] Maggie: Wait, Andrew, though, this is actually this is a good segue, because I actually had one thing I wanted to ask you about that I was thinking about on my drive home from work today. And that was, I don't think I've ever heard you talk on this podcast. And I've listened to every episode, mind you. Yeah, about like, your personal music tastes that aren't Glee associated. Like, what kind of music do you like? That's not Gleecast version by Gleecast? Like, do you have favorite artists right now? Or of all time?
[1:12:07] Andrew: No, that's a really good question. I think your listeners would like to know this. He only talks about Gleecast version by Gleecast I feel like.
[1:12:11] Maggie: I only talk about Gleecast version by Gleecast. And I, to be honest with you, and I really hate saying this, but like, I am like, I am streaming Gleecast version by Gleecast a lot in my downtime. Um, I, I'm like listening to, okay, Adele is my number one girl, but like, there's like that there's a time and place for Adele. And I understand that if I'm like looking to put on like an entire like album, if I want to do some like deep cleaning the apartment, I'm putting on either Coway Carter, or I'm putting on Beyonce. Yeah, Beyonce, girlie, you really have. But like, you know, what I've really been vibing with lately is, um, been like dabbling in, in some Harry Styles, weirdly enough.
[1:13:07] Maggie: No, Harry Styles. No, just like kind of like the hits of the past few years. Like I'm thinking of like the Times. I love like treat people with kindness. I think that's such a sweet song. But like, uh, yeah, just like kind of like the basic kind of, okay. I'm not like, I'm, I'm, I was never kind of like, you probably haven't heard of them. Like, I'm always listening to people that you definitely have heard of. Sure. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Are you an Olivia Deen girlie?
[1:13:39] Kassie: I'm not Olivia Deen. But I am Olivia Rodrigo.
[1:13:45] Andrew: Back to the earlier apps. This is a plug in the earlier episodes of Gleek of the Week. I remember you guys, you guys would do the thing you and Allison Dodge. Yeah, you would do things where you would talk about like current album releases and sing what song off new albums and you did, you didn't do Sour, did you?
[1:14:06] Kassie: No, we did Sour. We didn't do Guts.
[1:14:08] Andrew: Oh, you didn't do Guts. Okay. Yeah. But yeah, we did like the entire album of Sour and assigning like me and Allison both like assigned specific songs. Yeah. Did you do Renaissance as well?
[1:14:15] Kassie: Um, I know that. Did you do Cowboy Carter? I know that I have in my notes. Um, I think I did talk about this in one episode. I actually have like a Glee lemonade episode that I might have shared at one point. I think that's must be what it is. But I don't know if I have a Renaissance or Oh, we have a Cowboy Carter episode. Yes. Why? Okay. Yeah, yeah. I told Cassie. I'm a Gleek of the Week expert. Cassie, you didn't believe her. I believed.
[1:14:48] Kassie: Okay, wait. So what are we any final things to say about landslide before we pull the final song of the episode?
[1:14:52] Maggie: No luck to it. Yeah, I'm not fearful. I'm feeling really I'm feeling really good. I'm feeling really good. It's gonna be it's gonna be if it's I'm like, literally about to shit my pants.
[1:15:06] Kassie: Oh, no, it's fine. Okay. All right. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good. I mean, like, I thought it was like, I thought it was gonna be I can't teach your boyfriend how to dance with you. And I was about to also poop my pants. You know, what I was really afraid it was going to be was um, faithfully. I was like, Oh my god, if it's okay, we need to we need to actually talk about that after we watch whatever this is. I'm sorry to segue to you're allowed to talk about a lot of the like a song that's still on the glock at that we just just Cassie. Okay, Andrew.
[1:15:41] Kassie: No, Cassie, say your shit.
[1:15:50] Maggie: Do you know what this is? Is this God squad? It's not God squad. It's okay. We're looking at audio medium a Quinn on the microphone. It's not man's man's world. Right? No, it's too dark man's man's man's world.
[1:16:02] Kassie: It is man's man's man's man's man's man's world.
[1:16:09] Maggie: I do unfortunately love that so much. And I'm the only one.
[1:16:15] Kassie: Um, okay, here's the thing. Okay, go ahead. There's elements of this that are so fucking phenomenal. But as a whole, I'm this. Okay, here's the thing. I'm the only one in this chat who's given birth to a child. So you don't know.
[1:16:33] Andrew: I think that's true. That's true. Andrew, show me show me your medical records. I'll have a HIPAA violation live on the air. Yeah.
[1:16:37] Maggie: Um, uh, if you're not a patron, you didn't hear this part. But there's a really, really awesome two parts in the song where they breathe to the beat of the song like they're in labor, they go. And that was fucking hilarious. That part was really, really, really good.
[1:16:59] Kassie: The other part, Artie Abrams being the supportive best friend that he is, was he being supportive? He was nodding along to the song. Okay, contemplatively.
[1:17:09] Maggie: Okay. I mean, like, because like, it's like, they put they do this on purpose. They put Mercedes and Matt front and center, kind of giving puzzling looks at Quinn. But like the rest of the Glee Club is like kind of because they they literally I'm looking at the last frame of this music video that like the rest of the Glee Club gets up and like hugs Quinn because they're like, Oh, girl, we get it. Girl. Yeah, I understand now. Yeah. So I guess Yeah, yes. Artie's vibing.
[1:17:39] Kassie: I just think that this song like, I don't know, you know, pretty privilege. This song has benefited too far in the glock it with silly privilege. It's just so ridiculous that I feel like no, like a really good way of force to like, not forced to like it, but people like, they almost just like can't not think it's fun, because it's so funny. And I think that I, we're deep in the glock it here. Okay, we're deep in the glock it I think we need to just examine that a little further. Maggie saying you guys aren't taking this seriously enough.
[1:18:18] Kassie: Well, okay, what is the difference? And I feel like I have my own answer to this. But silly privilege as related to another song in this episode. Let's have a kiki tricky lurky time. Yeah, that's silly privilege, silly privilege. Um, it has silly privilege, but it's also a group number. It's choreographed in a way that I think is more appealing than just like pregnant women rubbing their bellies. It is a mashup, which I will always, always go to bat for more than I will just a regular song. I will say I will say and listen, I already have my vote obviously made up. But I will say that it's man's man's man's world. Like, I think that like having a mashup and having Quinn sing a song by correct me if I'm wrong, James Brown.
Like that, like that is kind of like synonymous of like, okay, you're doing something creative with the song if you're giving Diana Argonne a song by Miss Argonne, like a song by like someone completely so different than who she is and what she represents.
[1:19:30] Maggie: Can I say something? Please? No, I'm going to even if you say no. I want to talk about this for a minute because I forget sometimes because I was in my early college years when Glee came out. I think the first season came out my sophomore year of college. And I always felt like it was a silly show, but like it kind of took itself seriously. And I forget sometimes that there were there were songs like this, or like, you know, pieces like this, because this is clearly trying to be silly. Like you can't say it's not silly privilege, whereas like a lot of times I feel like a lot of the ones that we look back on and are like this is so ridiculous. It's not because it was intentionally trying to be silly. It was just like 2009 and that's how 2009 was. You know what I mean?
[1:20:22] Kassie: What is that kind of like? Are you saying does like Total Eclipse of the Heart fall into that?
[1:20:28] Maggie: Kind of. I don't think it exemplifies it the best, but like a lot of things that like Will Schuster did and a lot of his like songs, I feel like a lot of those are like, yeah, you know, you look back at it and you're like, hmm, thong song when she's in a wedding dress. Interesting. I don't know that this was intentionally supposed to be funny, but it is. Looking back at it. So I kind of enjoyed it because I forgot about this one. And like even just at the beginning, like when they're like doing like the taps, but it's like on their belly, like it's a drum. I was like, oh my god, I'm dying. This is hilarious. And Argan tends to have like this more like nasally, like softer, like lighter voice in intensity. But there was that one part of the song that was the more like James Brownie, I guess, song part of the song where she like gets really.
[1:21:49] Andrew: Neg the Preg is perfect. Oh, my God. Save this comedy gold for our podcast.
[1:22:08] Kassie: What are you doing? I'm kind of over talking about this song. Do we have anything else?
[1:22:17] Maggie: The only thing I was gonna say is, there's kind of like a level of which I judge my anger when it comes to songs on the Glacket. And that is, do I think Loser Like Me should be there in place of the songs? And it's songs like this where I'm like, for me, it's a travesty that this song has made it this far. And Loser Like Me is out very early. You should never have any of the guests who said that that is out back on the podcast ever again.
[1:22:54] Andrew: Is it like someone who's really famous?
[1:22:56] Kassie: No.
[1:22:57] Andrew: Wait, what are you saying that if you are anti Loser Like Me, then? You should not. You should not be here.
[1:23:06] Maggie: I think I love Loser Like Me. I think real-time Gleek watchers, I think real-time Gleek watchers, because Kassie obviously is ancient, right? She watched Glee live.
[1:23:20] Kassie: Which means I watched Glee live.
[1:23:22] Andrew: Yeah. I thought you joined after like a season was already out.
[1:23:27] Kassie: Yeah, season. Yes, I didn't watch the first season live.
[1:23:33] Andrew: I'm so okay. Well, I'm sorry. I'm not trying to out you, Andrew. But I'm just saying Kassie watched it like right from the beginning. And I also watched it right from the beginning by proxy because we grew up in the same household. And I think that I don't want to say OG, OG Gleeks, but like Gleeks who like literally started from the pilot, like Loser Like Me, I think that that's the correlation there. It was one of those moments when it came out that it was like, Oh my God, they did their own song.
[1:23:59] Kassie: Yeah. That's true. I forget about that moment. That it was like, okay, that was huge.
[1:24:08] Andrew: Yeah. And I know that we're not supposed to be talking about that song right now.
[1:24:13] Maggie: Because we can do whatever we want.
[1:24:17] Andrew: You're in big trouble right now. You're in big trouble. They were already mad at me from the get-go because of Argon. So like, I have nothing left to lose.
[1:24:30] Kassie: Let's vote. So we can actually I have a question about something that we were gonna bring up before the song got pulled. So let's vote.
[1:24:35] Andrew: Okay.
[1:24:36] Kassie: Andrew said he's done talking about man's man's man's world. So let's I think I love the last thing I'll say about the song. It's a beautiful purple dress. I think it's like very fun.
[1:24:46] Maggie: Wait, yeah, let's can we all vote at the same time? You haven't done that in a while.
[1:24:50] Andrew: I feel like that'd be fun.
[1:24:51] Kassie: Okay. Okay, ready? Oh, you. Oh, okay. Right. 321.
[1:25:05] Andrew: In a landslide.
[1:25:06] Kassie: In a landslide.
[1:25:07] Maggie: Yes, you came across super so but it might just be because it was synced up for me. Anyway, it won't be anything different in the edit. Everything will be perfect.
[1:25:19] Andrew: Okay, what do you want to say Maggie?
[1:25:21] Maggie: No, okay, this isn't like this isn't a bit. This is like me being like super genuinely like, inquisitive. Okay. Can you please explain to me as someone who like, rises for faithfully, like actually like a few bullet points or just like a synopsis on why people think that song is better than any way you want to love and touch and squeeze in? Because I like don't get it.
[1:25:52] Kassie: Oh, I think the financial of it all is really pulling a lot of weight. But it's like, well, because leading up to the performance is fins. Rachel says, break a leg. And he says, I love you, which I think is like the most like glee written line of all time. You know, yeah.
[1:26:06] Maggie: And also they go into it. And I love like, you can like feel the chemistry between these two characters that it's like, oh my god, they are at a new stage in their relationship as they're singing this song, which is so special as they're walking through the aisles.
[1:26:24] Kassie: And then also I love, obviously, Lea Michele when she does reach the stage when she does the I'm still yours.
[1:26:32] Maggie: Just like that. Nailed it.
[1:26:34] Kassie: Yeah. Yeah, it's yeah, there's just an emotional weight to it that it's not if you listen to them individually, and like didn't put into context anything else, then you might be like, okay, yeah, that it it's not as good. But like, the emotional weight for a really long time.
[1:26:51] Maggie: In my old car when I was in high school, when you would plug your phone into the radio, it would automatically start playing your music on your iTunes library in alphabetical order.
[1:27:03] Kassie: Oh, yeah, for a long for a long time.
[1:27:05] Maggie: Anyway, you want it love and touch and squeeze and was my first song on my like, because it starts with an A. So fun.
[1:27:13] Kassie: Yeah. And every time it would come on, James would be like, I hate that one glee song, never learned the name of it. Never learned it. He just knew because every time it came on in the car, he hated it. And then it became a different song. And he hated that one even more.
[1:27:28] Maggie: So I my song for that was like the first song alphabetically was a boy like that from West Side Story the original.
[1:27:35] Kassie: Oh, I like that.
[1:27:36] Maggie: Every time I would plug my phone, it would go.
[1:27:47] Kassie: Oh, my God, that I that would be that I miss that. Actually, I want that back.
[1:27:53] Andrew: I know. Comment below what your first song was that you play?
[1:28:00] Kassie: Well, I feel like what why was it not ABC, Gleecastration or Jackson Five? Why was it?
[1:28:08] Maggie: Oh, I guess because there's a space, whatever. Anyway.
[1:28:10] Kassie: Yeah. Let's not think too hard about it.
[1:28:13] Maggie: Yeah, I'm thinking too hard. I'm hurting my brain.
[1:28:16] Kassie: Okay. So in recap for this episode, Total Clips of the Heart, Total Clips of the Fart, you lost.
[1:28:25] Andrew: Let's have a kiki.
[1:28:27] Kassie: It's we're gonna have we're gonna have a kiki in the next round.
[1:28:28] Maggie: Yeah, I feel like we said that every single round that it won.
[1:28:33] Kassie: Do we?
[1:28:34] Maggie: Oh, I think so. But probably like so many of these are the same.
[1:28:40] Kassie: Let's have a kiki, turkey lurkey time. It's time for you to go to round five.
[1:28:45] Andrew: Landslide. We definitely say this every time that it wins.
[1:28:48] Kassie: It won in a landslide.
[1:28:49] Maggie: I think that always does. I don't think anybody's actually voted against the song yet.
[1:28:52] Kassie: Landslide.
[1:28:53] Andrew: Yeah, you won the landslide. Like that's what I'm saying. It's a man's man's man's world. It's a loser's loser's loser's world.
[1:28:59] Maggie: Wow.
[1:29:00] Kassie: Wow. That was the most like I was definitely pregnant version of
[1:29:09] Andrew: I sincerely mean this. In full sincerity, I have the time of my damn life recording this episode. There's like there are certain episodes that I'm like, Oh, like, I might need to piece together like, edit wise, like maybe there were some dull moments. I feel like I don't know if I think I could just like upload the raw files to raw file, baby file, not a single edit.
[1:29:34] Kassie: It'll make Cassie look real stupid.
[1:29:36] Andrew: If I was a little nervous at the beginning, because I would say I felt like I said a couple things. And it was just like crickets. And I was like, Oh, tough.
[1:29:42] Kassie: No, I love it became a bit. So it'll be great.
[1:29:49] Andrew: Yeah. No, this is very, very fun, as is every time that we link up. And I would really love for all the Gleeks to skip or scream and where can they do that?
[1:30:01] Maggie: They can skip or scream on over to our podcast called Skip or Scream. You guessed it. We're a scary movie recap podcast where we recap all of the details from start to finish of all of the scary movies that are out there. So if you love horror movies, or if you hate them, you're too scared to watch them. But you want to know all the juicy bits that happen in them. Come on over to Skip or Scream. It's chill.
[1:30:25] Kassie: We have a lot of fun episodes coming up. And it's good times for everybody. I've said it when I've been on this podcast before, but I truly believe the Venn diagram of Gleeks and horror fans intersect greatly. So if you are one of those horror little Gleeks, not who are e Gleeks, but HOR.
[1:30:44] Maggie: We accept all.
[1:30:45] Kassie: We do accept all. We accept whores and horrors. So you're all welcome over at Skip or Scream. But come hang out with us. We have episodes every other Thursday. And we would love you to join our inner circle.
[1:30:58] Andrew: I love that talk about scary movies. This is so much fun. Any final notes? Do we need to say anything final?
[1:31:04] Kassie: No, I'm just really grateful and appreciative to be in this space with you really, really hardcore fans. So thank you for letting me
[1:31:20] Andrew: It's very intimidating coming in and because you guys are know so much. And like, it's it's a lot for me to be able to live up to but you know, I think I provide the off offhand random comments that you were there from the beginning.
[1:31:36] Maggie: You were there.
[1:31:37] Kassie: I was.
[1:31:38] Andrew: Kassie you were there on topic. You also provided wonderful insight on ballet that I think was invaluable.
[1:31:49] Maggie: That was invaluable to the glisteners and as much as I am mean to you because I have to be because you're my sister, you are wonderful and you did a great job.
[1:32:02] Kassie: I feel like that was Total Clips of the Hearts downfall. The actual like the non pointed to the non pointed shoes that that's what got it in the end. And so like that was it's final like that's what killed it.
[1:32:14] Andrew: Do we we didn't disagree at all. Right?
[1:32:21] Kassie: No, we agree. Like it was unanimous today.
[1:32:25] Maggie: Yeah, the first competition was a little bit like, huh, but we all agreed.
[1:32:30] Andrew: Yeah, you're gonna have to make a rule when you go into the next round that like there has to be like a mandatory like 10 minute discussion window where you like really have to dissect these not that you don't do that now but like to really make sure because it's gonna get real scary moving into the next round.
[1:32:42] Kassie: Everyone says that every episode but you're gonna need to like get an hourglass and like flip it so you can be like we have to talk. We have to make sure we really flush the shit out.
[1:32:53] Andrew: I don't think they're gonna talk about it enough.
[1:32:57] Kassie: I think the debate is going to get even more contentious.
[1:33:00] Andrew: Yeah, yeah, but maybe I'll cut this but I was thinking for next round and all round all rounds after because it will be top 50 songs so not many competitions left in the Glacket. I was thinking starting next round only having one competition per episode.
[1:33:21] Kassie: How do you feel about that?
[1:33:25] Maggie: Oh, I thought that was always your plan.
[1:33:30] Andrew: Maybe you mentioned that to me off mic. Either you mentioned that to me off mic or other people have just brought it up on the recordings because they like want Gleek of the Week to just continue on forever but I think that's a good idea.
[1:33:34] Kassie: I think that's a great idea. Your episodes are probably gonna be a little shorter but there's nothing wrong with that. I think that we'll have like we'll be really talking about these like a lot.
[1:33:44] Andrew: Yeah, so okay I have your blessing.
[1:33:47] Kassie: Okay, you are blessed.
[1:33:49] Andrew: Okay, so next week I have Amelia and Elijah coming in. It's a little mid-round check-in. You're going to have to ask them about the first poll, second poll stat because I need to know the answer. I'm gonna message them tonight about that and see if they can do some quick stats because I'm recording with them in two days so that would be a real fast turnaround. But if anybody could do it, it's them. Love them so much and it's gonna be a really iconic episode where we're gonna talk about, we're gonna do two competitions and also talk about how the songs are doing so far in this round.
[1:34:34] Kassie: Anyway, I can't wait to listen. Thanks so much.
[1:34:37] Andrew: Or glisten. Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. What the fuck? What is listening?
[1:34:39] Kassie: I don't know. Good thing I'm vlogging now. Episode ruined.
[1:34:46] Andrew: Okay, bye everybody.
[1:34:48] Kassie: Bye. It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
