[0:00] Andrew: We've got a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.
[0:09] Andrew: There's no rhyme or reason to it, so don't get mad at me.
[0:18] Andrew: Gleek it by Gleek it, we'll rank everyone to see which song will move closer to spot number one.
[0:26] Andrew: Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week. It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
[0:35] Andrew: Okay, so we're back. I feel like this is like very, very close live stream episodes. It was just two episodes ago that we had a live stream episode. Hey, guess what? We have another one. And this month, February, I'm joined by the incredible Alyssa, aka Garugi Draws. Hey!
[0:58] Alyssa: Hello! Oh, I'm so happy to be back.
[1:01] Andrew: Um, how are things going?
[1:04] Alyssa: Oh, pretty good. I guess since you've last seen me, I like, I moved. I'm in a different space. I got baby bangs. I don't know, audio medium. I have baby bangs now.
[1:14] Alyssa: Let's see. I was in a play this past week. That was exciting.
[1:18] Andrew: This is huge.
[1:19] Alyssa: Yeah. I mean, okay. You were such a gift to the Gloomunity because of so many reasons. I mean, like, you do these incredible animations, which I'm obsessed with. But also, okay, you were on an episode. You were on, now this is, this will be your third episode, correct? You were on a live stream episode in round two. And then we did an episode together with Patrick a number of months back.
[1:46] Alyssa: Yes. Love you, Patrick. Shout out, Patrick.
[1:49] Andrew: Shout out, Patrick. King of my life. Too long, don't read. Alyssa, what is your claim to fame?
[1:55] Alyssa: Um, I killed the boy's mind.
[2:01] Andrew: And there we go.
[2:01] Alyssa: And I'm sorry for it. I mean, I honestly, I've been thinking about it since. I've been reflecting.
[2:06] Alyssa: And I just, I feel bad. I feel rough about it.
[2:10] Andrew: Do you feel remorse?
[2:10] Alyssa: I do feel a little bit of remorse. But I also, I don't regret voting through I Know Where I've Been. Because that, it was, it's fantastic. I have to rep Alex Newell. I saw them live. Beautiful person. So I had to.
[2:29] Andrew: Well, I mean, like, I don't know, I feel like so weird about like, remorse as it pertains to the Glacket. I feel like when I started this exercise, I was like, literally like losing sleep over songs leaving. And I was like, how will I go on if I don't know, like, Push It. Push It's like an iconic song. Very early on, we lost Push It. And I'm like, how will I go on? But like, now I'm like, I simply, I'm like, I need to protect my peace. So I'm like, I just need to keep on.
[3:04] Alyssa: You can't have regrets.
[3:05] Andrew: I just need to be alone. I'm numb to it. Yeah. And maybe for better, for worse, maybe for worse, probably for worse. But hey, I'm speaking for worse. Alyssa, it's been a minute since you've been here. I'm sure that you have some Glacket competitions that did not sit well with your spirit.
[3:22] Alyssa: Honestly, I was looking, side note, I see Eduardo in the chat. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
[3:31] Andrew: It's okay. It'll be okay.
[3:39] Alyssa: Okay, but yeah, so I have, um, I just honestly have shout outs. Like I didn't have any specific.
[3:46] Andrew: Oh, really?
[3:46] Alyssa: Any specific grievances. Like I was kind of shocked because like, usually I have like a long list of grievances.
[4:00] Andrew: Yeah, because you guys don't vibe with Blaine her usually. So usually, but honestly, you guys have done pretty well. I was like, okay, okay.
[4:08] Alyssa: Yeah, exactly. I just I have a list of shout outs. Okay, let's see. Shout out to Raise Your Glass season two. I really like it. It's very millennial core. It's true. It's but I don't know. This is also the problem with being kind of like numb to what's going on also means that I don't feel like I'm remembering what killed certain songs like recently, like Raise Your Glass season two. What took that out?
[4:35] Andrew: Oh, I don't know. I just have them all. Like I have the ones that died, not the ones that moved on.
[4:40] Alyssa: You're like, Raise Your Glass isn't here anymore. But I don't know what took her out. What took her out? I don't remember. Actually, I think that's a he. I have to say I think that's a he. I see that Elijah is here and I hate to kind of give him this task. But Elijah, if anybody has that task ready, what killed Raise Your Glass season two?
[5:03] Andrew: Yeah, check the tapes. I will I will move on while we were checking the tapes.
[5:09] Alyssa: Perfect. Let's see. We've got Listen on here. Shout out to Listen. I love Listen. That's actually the version that I listened to for some reason of that song. Name of the game. Its own name against it. Yeah.
[5:21] Alyssa: Um, listen, I also don't remember what took out Listen either. Elijah, while you're in the document, you need to also know what's going on there.
[5:29] Andrew: Um, wait, I also have this. Let me just, I can, you know, I could also pull it up. I should have pulled it up. Let's see.
[5:43] Alyssa: Okay. Oh, okay. So Never Can Say Goodbye took out Listen. And then Elijah is also saying that Superstition took out Raise Your Glass season two. See that? I don't know. I don't know about all that.
[5:55] Andrew: No, that is kind of, that is kind of insane. But like Superstition, here's the thing. Sleeper Hit. People are not talking about it. I'm glad it's here. Like, I like it. I don't love it. I don't think it's gonna live much longer than it kind of has. I think that it's had its final winning competition. But yeah, anyway.
[6:10] Alyssa: Oh, yeah. Okay. What else is coming to mind, Alyssa?
[6:22] Alyssa: Let's see. It's All Over. That's iconic. I've quoted it all over so many times. That was very sad. That's like a that's like one for the fans. I feel like I don't know, maybe, maybe we feel differently about it. Because I know I think it was in like a guest episode or something.
[6:38] Alyssa: It was with Lily Mae and Abraham. And it lost you. See, I can do this so easily. I didn't I doubted myself.
[6:44] Andrew: Um, it lost to Jump.
[6:51] Alyssa: Yeah, like, I love Jump too. But it's like, I don't know, it's all over is like, I have noticed that in these more recent like guest episodes, there are songs that are definitely like for the Gleeks. And then there's songs that like, the cast just does not get and that's so fair. That's so fair. They have a completely different experience than us.
[7:13] Andrew: No, it is that is part of maturing is realizing that the people that created the things don't actually understand what kind of what is exciting about that.
[7:20] Alyssa: Yeah, the fans.
[7:28] Andrew: Like with this, not right. But it's okay. When Jenna was like, I don't get it. I was like, actually, let me sit you down. Let's talk about this.
[7:39] Alyssa: Yeah. So it's, oh, it's like it's perfect glee. Like that's essential glee to me.
[7:46] Andrew: This is it's all right. It's it's all right. It's not right. But it's okay.
[7:52] Alyssa: It's not did I say?
[7:52] Andrew: Yeah, you know? No, I'm wrong. It's not right. But it's okay. Winning over I Dreamed a Dream.
[7:56] Alyssa: You're okay with this.
[7:56] Andrew: Of course, I'm fine with this. Honestly, I'm explain. I don't have blinders on. I guess I do like I Dreamed a Dream. I have like what songs that I want to see today that aren't Kurt and Blaine related specifically so that I don't seem like I have perfect clean blinders on.
[8:10] Alyssa: Wait, let's let's switch over into there. What in that territory? What songs are you hoping to see in your competitions this evening?
[8:24] Alyssa: I am hardcore manifesting Fighter. I saw it in there. And I was like, I'm sitting here like doing the Cynthia Erivo. Yeah, I need it.
[8:31] Andrew: Okay. Can you can you explain Fighter to me because like Fighter to me, I'm like, there's already been like so much discourse with Fighter within the Glacket that it won against So Emotional and now So Emotional has been defeated. Fighters still around. Round three, potentially round four. I think it's like that is why I don't understand why it's still here. Truthfully. I don't think I'm not one of the blowers that I go for.
[9:07] Alyssa: Okay, so like, I was going to save this for if it was pulled, but just in case we get why not reiterate?
[9:13] Alyssa: Yeah, sure. I so Fighter it everyone always complains like, Oh, Blaine doesn't have a lot of like backstory. Blaine doesn't have a lot of this Blaine doesn't have a lot of that big brother is entirely about his backstory. It's about backstory. It's about the fact that I don't know he does a fight club, I guess. Why not? Sure, just it goes shirtless and you know, does boxing as a character building for Blaine Walker?
[9:42] Andrew: Yeah, exactly. It's character building for Blaine that doesn't have anything to do with Kurt. And you can also see that he has like, fire and anger and like stuff that again, doesn't have anything to do with Kurt.
[9:53] Alyssa: And I just think that that's really and it's in season three and not in seasons four through six. So I see that seems to be my big problem with Fighter or just like Big Brother, Big Brother generally is that like, it just feels like okay, it we have so little time with the people that we literally know are on their way out the door. And then we're like, wait, let's actually give this entire episode to Blaine. And I'm like, Wait, I actually didn't need this.
[10:21] Andrew: Because like, also, my question to you, as a Blaine historian, a Blistorian.
[10:26] Alyssa: Yes, that's me.
[10:30] Andrew: How? Okay, maybe this is like bad Gleek alert, bad Gleek alert for asking this question. But like, how does what we learn about Blaine in Big Brother carry on through the rest of the series? Because we don't see Cooper again. But the characterization, how do we continue to see it? Do you know what I mean?
[10:50] Alyssa: Okay, yes. So it like contributes to his like, he has like a hero complex. He has like a thing where he has to feels like he has to be the bigger person and save people.
[11:04] Alyssa: Yes. Sorry, I'm reading the chat. And I'm like, Yes, Blaine's hero complex. So the continuation of it, to me, is in season, I believe it's four or five, where he's like trying to live with Kurt. And he has that.
[11:15] Andrew: Yeah.
[11:15] Alyssa: Like he feels very little in that moment, because it goes back to feeling very little with his brother. Because he's the little brother.
[11:28] Andrew: Yeah.
[11:28] Alyssa: Because he lives in his shadow, for the most part. So like, my headcanon, here's the thing, a lot of Blaine, and I think I've messaged you about this before, a lot of Blaine is like people inferring things about Blaine.
[11:39] Andrew: In between the lines.
[11:40] Alyssa: In between the lines, but my personal headcanon is that he, he, what was it? He tried to, he's constantly trying to, like, be this bigger.
[11:46] Andrew: Yeah.
[11:59] Alyssa: Oh, I lost it. I lost the thought. Dang it.
[12:04] Andrew: No, you're fine. We'll find it. We'll find it.
[12:04] Alyssa: No, he is just trying really hard all the time. And it's, it's, I don't know, I can't think of it anymore.
[12:14] Andrew: Trying to be eloquent here. And I'm like, I just really like Blaine.
[12:19] Alyssa: No, because you are, you are selling me on Fighter, in a sense, because like, Fighter, yes, Fighter has more kind of like weight to it than your average Lolo. Right?
[12:30] Alyssa: Yes, exactly. Like, it's, a lot of his other songs are very, like, light and fun. And it's like, oh, I'm going to sing Last Friday Night. I'm actually going to sing Last Friday Night right now. And I'm going to sing this.
[12:39] Andrew: Exactly. No. Yeah. Like, it kind of goes into this different territory for Blaine.
[12:44] Alyssa: And oh, that's, I was also going to say this, that I was, as a Blaine fan, like, I was waiting for two, you know, for like a season and a half for like anything about Blaine, because for instance, it's like, we got stuff about Queen, we got stuff about Kurt, we got stuff about Finn. We got all these characters in season one. And then they introduced this character and he's got nothing, like absolutely nothing until, probably until the first time, I would say, like he had kind of a little something there because you see his room, you see, you know, Prom Queen, things like that.
[13:05] Andrew: But then they finally decided to bring in, and I will agree with you, not the best placement for the episode. I do agree with you.
[13:30] Alyssa: No, it's awful. Because my feelings about Big Brother, I'm so glad that we're finally having discourse about Big Brother. I'm so excited. I just feel like that is almost like a kind of presentation from the writers. I'm putting it all on Ryan Murphy. But okay, just for the sake of the conversation, Ryan Murphy being like, during Chris, we want to see how you can carry an episode. You know, like, we want to kind of like, see if you have the juice to like carry on this series, because he is the, at the end of the series, he has the second most solos right after Rachel, like he's right up there.
[14:11] Andrew: So I think it's like, almost like, hey, like, let's see if we can work with you in a larger capacity going forward. You know what I mean?
[14:24] Alyssa: Yes. Yes. No, exactly.
[14:26] Andrew: And he got it. He nailed it.
[14:28] Alyssa: He did. He's hilarious in that episode, to be honest. That episode is funny as hell. I love it.
[14:35] Andrew: I never go back to it, because I just remember where I was. And I'm like, I remember being so mad. I was like, well, like, that episode pissed me off so much that I was like, I'm looking forward to the next episode of Glee, obviously. But I know that it's going to be entirely about this boy that has nothing to do with what happened in the last episode.
[14:56] Alyssa: Yeah.
[14:57] Andrew: And it's so funny, because I felt exactly the opposite as you.
[15:00] Alyssa: You were like, finally.
[15:02] Andrew: I was like, finally, oh, my God. And it was funny, because personally, in my life, I was going through some like, just rough, like, friendship, like teenage friendship stuff at the time. And I had Fighter on repeat in my house. It was serious for me. Like, that's like a personal, like, top 20 Glee song for me, just because of my personal attachment to it.
[15:25] Alyssa: Is Loki working on me? I'm kind of getting it now.
[15:28] Andrew: It's, it's, it's fun. It's fun. It's camp and silly.
[15:32] Alyssa: I'm being sweet.
[15:32] Andrew: You know, it's kind of like, it's not right, but it's okay. It has the same energy to me where it's like, silly, angry.
[15:39] Alyssa: It's not right, but it's okay feels like a little bit like more leaning into like, the silliness, whereas like Fighter, I understand that he's like, Fighter, he's like performing in front of like, all those screens of Cooper's commercial and everything. So like, that's silly. But there is something so like, like grounded and true with Fighter as opposed to like, it's not right, but it's okay, where it's like, oh, my God, like, this is actually like, completely blown out of proportion.
[16:06] Alyssa: And like, understand that we can't actually treat this seriously.
[16:11] Andrew: So that is true. That is very true. And, and see, see, now you're fighting for Fighter. Now you get it. Now you're understanding.
[16:16] Alyssa: Fighting for Fighter.
[16:17] Andrew: Hey, you might have just said it. You might have just said the title.
[16:23] Alyssa: There we go.
[16:26] Alyssa: Oh, I needed to say this. I've been thinking about this for a long time with Big Brother that I just really wanted to mention this that have you seen the deleted scene? Like not the deleted scene. It's like a bonus scene from Big Brother. It's the only, maybe the only episode of Glee that has a bonus scene on YouTube.
[16:38] Andrew: Where they're at the audition?
[16:44] Alyssa: Yes.
[16:45] Andrew: Yeah. And for, is it Transformers?
[16:47] Alyssa: Yes, they're auditioning for like, Transformers 4 or something or Cooper is.
[16:51] Andrew: And yes, and Blaine is helping him. If anybody hasn't seen that, hooray, there's bonus Glee content out there for you.
[16:59] Alyssa: Yes. But I also remember also, this might have been like, during like season four or five, I know you know this, when Blaine, there's a bonus scene as well, when Blaine does a time capsule.
[17:15] Andrew: Yes. Wait, well, is that, that's not the box scene, is it?
[17:19] Alyssa: No, that's different. That's where it's like, it's him in the choir room. It's like almost like a Blaine vlog.
[17:24] Andrew: Yes, yes, I do remember this. Yes.
[17:26] Alyssa: And he's like, hey, like what Blaine, like, he's like, this is a video to future Blaine, right?
[17:32] Andrew: Yes, yes. I haven't seen that in so long. I need to go back and watch that.
[17:36] Alyssa: I haven't seen it in a minute, but I do remember it.
[17:39] Andrew: Hey.
[17:39] Alyssa: Maybe Darren just really loved to just be like, hey, do you guys need me for anything else?
[17:46] Andrew: They're like, actually, we need DVD bonus material. And he's like, great, I know more.
[17:53] Alyssa: Um, incredible. Wait, so Alyssa, is there anything else that you would like to add? Galactic Revenges, anything else that you're manifesting?
[18:01] Alyssa: Oh, um, I just want to see. Oh, I also, here's my non-Klane related song. I really, really want to see Borderline Open Your Heart. That's a personal favorite of mine.
[18:11] Andrew: Because that's on taste.
[18:12] Alyssa: Yes, it's, I rewatched season one, like more recently, and it was like, I don't know, it hit me different than it did when I first watched it. I don't know what it was, but it's beautiful.
[18:24] Alyssa: Borderline Open Your Heart, like, because I've been listening to the remaining songs playlist pretty continuously. And when that, I'm never skipping that. I'm streaming all the way through and I'm singing both parts. So good.
[18:40] Andrew: Yes. I switch, I switch depending on the day, who I'm singing as, you know.
[18:44] Alyssa: Yeah. Okay, are we ready to bring in our first Gleek? What do you say?
[18:49] Andrew: Yes, let's do it. I've got to see.
[18:52] Alyssa: Perfect. Um, we're gonna bring in Jake. Hello.
[18:58] Jake: Hello.
[19:01] Alyssa: How are things going?
[19:03] Jake: I am here, and I'm finally ready to be with some Gleeks that can match my Gleek, you know?
[19:12] Andrew: Yeah, match your Gleek.
[19:13] Jake: Match my Gleek.
[19:14] Andrew: Exactly. Um, Jake, where in the world are you coming in from?
[19:21] Jake: I am coming in from the Disney World, actually.
[19:26] Andrew: You're kidding.
[19:27] Jake: I work here at Disney World, actually.
[19:29] Andrew: Oh, heck yes. I did a college program too.
[19:32] Jake: Wait, that's iconic.
[19:33] Andrew: Yes, college program all the way. That's currently what I'm doing, trying to stay full time. So, you know.
[19:39] Jake: Nice. Um, wait, so are you, and this is no shade, you are a classified Disney adult. Are you saying that?
[19:46] Jake: I am a realistic Disney adult. Working here definitely gives you a new perspective. Like, obviously, I love all things Disney, the parks and everything, but it's like, I have an adjusted mindset now. I know how things work, you know? And like, there's a lot.
[20:08] Andrew: Exactly. There's some realism to your Disney adult-ness.
[20:12] Jake: Some realism to the dream world that is Disney.
[20:17] Andrew: Because I always feel like there's like some sort of separation between like a Disney parks adult and there's also like, Disney kind of general adult. Would you say that you're more Disney parks or what?
[20:30] Jake: I'm all the above. Like, I'm also a huge Marvel fan. So, you know, I'm into all that.
[20:35] Andrew: No Star Wars. Star Wars can get out of here. Yes. And like, Disney owns Fox. Therefore, I guess they own Glee now. So, it's like.
[20:44] Alyssa: And that's why you're here.
[20:47] Jake: That's why you can hear some of the songs in the parks during the Halloween event and Christmas, I believe. Yes.
[20:55] Andrew: Well, like, not normally during their daytime, but like, I work at Epcot and like, during their after-hours events, they have like, DJs that will blast current music into the parks and whatnot.
[21:03] Jake: And I was leaving work one night and I can't, this was years ago. I can't remember exactly what song it was, but I was hearing it. I'm like, oh, they sing this on Glee, naturally.
[21:18] Jake: And then like, I start getting closer to the sound and I'm like, is this the Glee version? I said, oh my God.
[21:24] Andrew: Would you recall what song it was?
[21:26] Jake: I can't remember. It was years ago. I want to say, I want to say it was like something season one, season two, but it was like such a random one, too. I was like, why are they playing this? It wasn't like Don't Stop Believing. It was something like totally random. It's like, why are they playing this? It was crazy.
[21:45] Alyssa: People will like, DM me and be like, I just heard this Glee song out in the wild. And I'm like, I'm never hearing it out in the wild. It's like, it's never reaching me.
[21:55] Jake: I've heard Extraordinary Merry Christmas at Michael's. And then I have heard at Disney, it was at the Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, I heard Thriller Heads Will Roll. And me and my friends were like, what are we hearing? What are we hearing right now? What is that melody?
[22:12] Alyssa: Post. I heard Loser Like Me in a Target.
[22:18] Jake: I was like, what is that for me?
[22:21] Andrew: I'm assuming the season two version, not the stripped down copycat.
[22:26] Jake: No. If I heard the season five version out in the wild, I would be like, what is happening?
[22:32] Andrew: No, someone is specifically behind this and I need to shake their hand.
[22:40] Jake: Yeah.
[22:40] Andrew: Wait, Jake, thank you so much for listening, first and foremost. I'm sure that not all of it has been pleasant, because I'm sure that you disagree with some competitions.
[22:46] Jake: Naturally.
[22:53] Andrew: What competitions would you like to shed light on?
[22:57] Jake: Let me pull up my list here.
[22:59] Andrew: Perfect.
[23:00] Jake: I also want to say, I think you and I have a very similar mindset, where you decided, I'm going to start a podcast ranking, doing a Glacket of all this. Before I discovered your podcast, in my own spare time, I started a glist, like a list ranking of every song by season.
[23:20] Andrew: We share a mind.
[23:21] Jake: Exactly. And I ranked all six seasons, and I'm trying to do one ultimate list of all the songs from every season. And that is like, it's killing me. It's impossible. I can't do a linear list like that.
[23:35] Andrew: I would also like to do that, because there's so many competitions that happen that I'm like, I know that they're like, so, if I were to do that exercise of like, ranking all of them, all 666, that they would be so close, that I'm like, it would take so long to do that.
[23:53] Jake: I literally haven't even, I can't even mash together the season one and season two lists. Like, it's already, like, impossible. Because I also, every time I go and look at it, I'm like, this is wrong. And that needs to move up. This needs to move down. It's like, constant.
[24:07] Andrew: I'm looking forward to having a clean 100 songs in round four, going forward. Because like, I think that that will be a good enough list where I can be like, okay, here's the official ranking of the 100 songs that are left. I think that will be fun.
[24:23] Jake: Yeah, exactly.
[24:24] Andrew: But what do you have?
[24:26] Jake: We can all rank just all those 100 at round four. Like, it would just be a nice exercise for everybody on Patreon. Like, rank these.
[24:32] Andrew: I think that'll be very, very fun.
[24:34] Jake: Yeah.
[24:36] Jake: So I also, like, I'm not caught up on this podcast. I've put in a lot of time. I'm still, like, in round two. But I have all my grievances through where I'm at. And I've, like, assorted them as your worst offense.
[24:51] Andrew: Okay. I want to hear them.
[24:53] Jake: Disappointed, but I'll live. And oh, I stubbed my toe. Like, ouch, that hurt. But I'm moving on, you know?
[24:59] Andrew: I'm obsessed with this.
[25:01] Jake: So your worst offenses, episode one, Listen to Your Heart and All That Jazz. Like, All That Jazz, I rise. I rise for that. I cannot believe All That Jazz was gone, like, at the very beginning.
[25:15] Andrew: All That Jazz was, like, voted back.
[25:17] Jake: Yeah, it did come back. So, like, Justice was...
[25:19] Andrew: But then also didn't win its competition in round two. And so it was like, it didn't catch any breaks.
[25:26] Jake: Yeah.
[25:28] Andrew: No, spoiler. No. Oh, my God.
[25:29] Jake: I knew.
[25:30] Andrew: Oh, I'm so sorry.
[25:35] Jake: I don't care about spoilers. But like, I haven't gotten to that part yet. So my heart is breaking.
[25:40] Andrew: You're going to have a roller coaster and you're going to be like, oh, it's back. Oh.
[25:46] Jake: Also, another hot take I have, I love season four. Like, I think season four is the best season of music on Glee.
[25:53] Andrew: There are some bops.
[25:57] Jake: There are.
[25:58] Andrew: So I won't say it's the best season of MP4s. But MP3s, yes, all the way. I listen to that all the time.
[26:06] Jake: So a lot of these competitions, it's like when a season four song went home. So, like, Last Name versus Crazy, You Drive Me Crazy.
[26:14] Andrew: Very early on.
[26:16] Jake: Anything Jake and Marlee are on, like singing, incredible. Like, I'm all the way here for it. I don't think they had really a single flop, in my opinion.
[26:24] Andrew: But I also think that, like, Jarli didn't have a single duet that made it to round two. I think all of their duets were done in round one, if I recall correctly.
[26:30] Jake: It was being stabbed repeatedly over and over. I couldn't believe my eyes.
[26:40] Jake: The one that I really love that I feel like people aren't talking about is You're All I Need to Get By.
[26:46] Andrew: Exactly.
[26:47] Jake: Um, I also have Home Season Six versus Some Nights. Like, I feel like those are very, very similar songs.
[26:57] Andrew: Similar.
[26:58] Jake: Yeah, I just personally would have gone Some Nights because I care about, I care about the season four newbies more than the season six.
[27:06] Andrew: Yeah.
[27:09] Jake: I mean, everybody has their opinion. But yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[27:13] Jake: Also, My Love is Your Love versus This is the New Year, another season four gone home.
[27:18] Andrew: My Love is Your Love does nothing for me. Like, I literally forget it exists.
[27:22] Jake: This is the new year. I listen to it every new year.
[27:24] Andrew: Right?
[27:25] Jake: That's like a tradition.
[27:26] Andrew: Yeah, exactly.
[27:28] Jake: I Wish versus You're All I Need to Get By.
[27:31] Andrew: Another.
[27:32] Jake: Jake and Marley gone.
[27:34] Andrew: I'm gone.
[27:37] Jake: Bad Romance versus Not the Boy Next Door.
[27:41] Andrew: Oh, that was devil's work.
[27:43] Jake: The what?
[27:44] Andrew: That was devil's work. Yeah, that was awful.
[27:47] Jake: Like, that's evil. I'm sorry. But I mean, The Boy Next Door, that had to have gone through. It just it had to have.
[27:54] Andrew: You're you're putting wait, Alyssa, are you agreeing that that Not the Boy Next Door better than Bad Romance?
[27:59] Alyssa: Oh, sorry. Like, I was like, that did give me heartburn for a second.
[28:05] Andrew: It's hurt. Yeah, it's bad.
[28:08] Jake: It's difficult. It is. But I do. Oh my god, I stand for The Boy Next Door. That's that might be one of without looking at Alyssa, one of my favorite Kurt songs, for sure.
[28:20] Alyssa: I feel like just because like that, we lost that colo so early on that I just like haven't even remotely considered it.
[28:27] Jake: Like, since it's actually so good.
[28:36] Andrew: Yeah, no, the other day, really years.
[28:39] Jake: Yeah.
[28:39] Jake: Also, Doo Wop versus Every Time season four, another Marley solo gone.
[28:46] Andrew: It's cute.
[28:46] Jake: I like Doo Wop. Like, obviously, I like it. It's Mercedes and Santana. But out of all of their songs, like, I think it's at the bottom.
[28:57] Andrew: Yeah, I would agree.
[28:58] Jake: Yeah, it's like we could do without that.
[29:03] Andrew: Let's Every Time is really good. I stream it all the time.
[29:06] Jake: Yeah, every time.
[29:08] Jake: Every time I stream it. Whenever I call your friend and another one bites the dust.
[29:13] Andrew: Another one bites the dust went home.
[29:15] Jake: Okay, another one bites the dust. I think check the tapes. Maybe what 50 seconds?
[29:22] Andrew: I mean, yes, it's short. But I feel like you sent crush through like three rounds. I don't know where it's currently at. But like, it's gone now.
[29:28] Jake: It is. You can't I can't like, Alyssa was responsible for sending or helping to send it through around three.
[29:41] Andrew: It was versus Feliz Navidad, though. That's the so important. I'm sorry to spoil that. But yeah.
[29:48] Jake: I have listened to that one. I am at that point.
[29:52] Andrew: Okay.
[30:30] Alyssa: These are all criminal offenses for me. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. Um, I mean, no blam is that is a criminal offense. I'm sorry. Yeah. Blam. Blam. Also, yeah, no, no blam in round two. Yeah, right. Ding dong, the witch is dead. And 1000 years 1000 years going home. Another Charlie, you know, it's iconic. You your eyes have not been open to ding dong, the witch is dead. No, no, no. And I really, really love ding dong. Like, I feel like I like ding dong, which is that more than the average. Yeah, you know, so like, I'm no hate to that. But 1000 years is just so pretty. Like, you can't. I don't know. I'm not thinking that is so goofy and fun and get out of that bed. It's so fun. Yeah, like, it was sad that 1000 years went home.
But I'm like, not that mad. Ding dong is okay. Um, and then it's a man's world versus musical dropout. Musical dropout top tier blame. Like, you know, no. Yeah, boxing against all odds. You know, typical. That one's brought up a lot. Typical. Like, yeah, that was I mean, we can have fun. What happened to fun on the glacket? Right? I'm I'm here for the camp of glee. But I feel like the Fox is not good camp. It's bad camp. No, I've said it before that. I think that like, Jenna and Jacob artists have this kind of I don't know if you recall, they have this like, this part of the Fox where they are doing. I don't what even I haven't listened to it in so long. But it sounds so they sound incredible.
To it. I listened to it. I should you not like last week because it came up randomly. And I was like, I do I can't like, I can't. I can't. Oh, secret of the ancient mystery. Somewhere deep in the woods. Oh, you're hiding. Yes. Yes. Yes. It's beautiful. Honestly. And Adam Lambert sounds really fantastic on that. I think I do too. Yeah. I'm sorry to just like overlook that. That was beautiful.
[33:01] Alyssa: Wait, so what do you wait? I feel like Jake, we're still fairly early in the glacket where you're at right now. How many more do we have?
[33:12] Jake: There's a good amount. There's a good amount.
[33:14] Alyssa: Do we do we have can we can we maybe like limit it to like, yeah, maybe a top five?
[33:22] Jake: I feel like I feel like I've done a lot like, I think slave for you going home in my life was really, really? Yeah, yeah. My life would suck without you. Also going home. Yeah. Well, don't dream it's over. You know? I feel like we've covered like most of the bases, you know, don't dream it's over. Remind me. Don't dream it's over was against rehab. Oh, rehab. I thought it was rehab or mercy. But no, it was rehab. Yeah.
[33:52] Alyssa: Rehab and mercy. Are they still here? Here's the thing. I'm living vicariously through the people that are listening because they mercy has made it to round four. And I think that mercy is in in that death slot of like, I'm saying confidently the least worthy to be in round four.
[34:18] Jake: Wow. Like this, the single one. I would listen. What do you think? Do you I mean, without looking at a list, if we have a group vote at the end of round three to take out one in assassinate one of them? Yeah, assassinate a song. I think it has to be mercy unless rehab somehow gets into that. I don't know what to do.
[34:36] Alyssa: No, because like, I think that like, we need to have a conversation. Okay. Rehab is infinitely better. It's better than mercy. Yes. Yes. I just don't know what to do if both of them are in it's just I don't know just feels that's that's sick to me. It's like I want rehab to be in round four. But I also understand the kind of what that suggests that we have both of them. And I know that it's a lot it's asking a lot to think about this. It's like my life would suck without you is not in round four.
[35:11] Jake: Right? Rehab and mercy are not the way next door top of mind. I'm like, wait a minute.
[35:18] Alyssa: Yeah, what's going on? What is going on?
[35:21] Jake: We're reaching a point where it's like, ooh, we might have to do some switches.
[35:25] Alyssa: Wait a minute. But I also think that like, more than words. So sorry, Jake. For spoilers, more than words. Also another snake for round four. And I'm like, yeah, wow, that might be that sweet, sweet. 99 place. You know, like, I don't I don't hate that song. But that I would never expect that to like, no, I just like someone else's thing. It's such a cute song.
[35:54] Jake: Yeah, yeah. Right. Right. It's a very sweet song. And if I forget the context, I'm like, oh, this is really nice. This is so cute. Is that the one that like Britney's singing to her cat?
[36:07] Alyssa: Yes. Yes. Okay. Okay. In the school shooting episode. Right. Season four.
[36:12] Jake: Yes. That's an insane sentence. I'm sorry.
[36:16] Alyssa: Britney singing to her cat in the school shooting episode. Yeah.
[36:21] Jake: Wait, so Jake, what else? What else must we discuss at this moment? Before we get into the competition? I noticed that you guys are fans of Light Up the World, which is I'm not as big of a fan of.
[36:32] Alyssa: Wait, listen, how do you feel about that song?
[36:37] Jake: Light Up the World? I'm a bigger fan, honestly, of the other original songs. Like I like Light Up the World. But yeah, a loser like me is is my girl. Even Get It Right is my girl.
[36:50] Alyssa: No, Light Up the World is fine. I like it. Fine. I just like that there's so many voices in Light Up the World. And I think that they're like, using Heather's voice really nicely in it, too. I think that she really lends herself to that song. And I love Naya at the beginning. It's just cute. I do like it. It's cute. I feel like Loser Like Me and Light Up the World kind of go hand in hand a little bit for me. And like, they're both very kids buff.
[37:20] Jake: Yeah. But yeah, it's like Loser Like Me has more impact on the Glistory books, you know?
[37:27] Alyssa: Sure. Because of that live show.
[37:31] Jake: I can't remember if Loser Like Me is still here or if it was out.
[37:35] Alyssa: No. I think where I'm at. I don't know.
[37:38] Jake: Season two version is that was out in round one against BOK. That was a very early episode. But then Loser Like Me season five version is solid in round four right now.
[37:52] Alyssa: See, I don't mind that.
[37:53] Jake: Strange.
[37:54] Alyssa: That's fine. But yeah, Loser Like Me season two, I feel like it's more hate than it needs. I also see someone in the chat said someone to mention Creep, which also Creep was that was a hard competition. I remember Creep was up against what was it? I can't remember.
[38:10] Jake: What I feel like it was against Home season one. That was Kristin Chenoweth. No.
[38:14] Alyssa: That sounds right.
[38:15] Jake: You would know better than anybody.
[38:18] Alyssa: I am team Home. But Creep is also like, amazing. Like that was a lose-lose situation there.
[38:27] Jake: It was a lose-lose because I feel like with both of those songs, I'm so glad.
[38:33] Alyssa: Lost is trust, Jake.
[38:34] Jake: I feel like Home and Creep, very great vocal standouts.
[38:44] Alyssa: So different.
[38:46] Jake: Yeah, they are singing capital S.
[38:49] Alyssa: Yes. I remember in the episode, you guys were like not fans of Creep either. I was that's what shocked me. You guys were like, I don't know, this is weird. This is like, I don't like the way they shot this.
[39:02] Jake: You're a different person now. Who knows what you would say about Creep in 2026.
[39:09] Alyssa: You don't know.
[39:09] Jake: I would change my tune with Creep. I'm sorry.
[39:11] Alyssa: Yeah, it's been a long time.
[39:14] Jake: It's been a long time since I've seen that girl.
[39:17] Alyssa: Another song I want to like, check on, see if she's okay. One Less Bell.
[39:24] Jake: One Less Bell, still in the cup.
[39:28] Alyssa: She is still in the cup. That one, that one I feel like, is like, excellent, like top tier glee. And I feel like the ones who get it, get it. But there's a lot that just don't. And that one worries me. I'm like, that deserves to go so far.
[39:45] Jake: It's really good. I feel like, okay, that song and also, I don't know, maybe I'm losing some like credibility by asking this question. Like, okay, so One Less Bell to answer, mashup with A House Is Not A Home is not a Glee original mashup. That is like a Barbra Streisand. Like, that is like, someone else put together that mashup. That was not Glee music team that designed that, right?
[40:17] Alyssa: I'm looking it up.
[40:17] Jake: I guess that sounds right, probably.
[40:20] Alyssa: Okay. I'm just like, I'm afraid that like, maybe I sound insane, but we're on round four, round three of the Blackett. So it's like, maybe we need to be having this conversation. Does a borrowed mashup lose credibility versus an actual designed mashup for the series? You know what I mean?
[40:39] Jake: Well, does Get Happy, Happy Days Are Here Again, does that-
[40:42] Alyssa: That's what I'm also thinking.
[40:43] Jake: Does that lose credibility?
[40:45] Alyssa: Hey.
[40:47] Jake: I think Happy Days on my list is number one for season two. Best song of season two, in my opinion.
[40:54] Alyssa: And it's good.
[40:56] Jake: It's fantastic.
[40:57] Alyssa: Like, it is Barbra, but like, it's a classic, you know?
[41:00] Jake: Yeah. No, I just-
[41:01] Alyssa: In the way they did it, you know?
[41:03] Jake: I'm not saying you're wrong. I just wanted to present that as a-
[41:06] Alyssa: No, no, I see. I know what you're saying.
[41:07] Jake: No, that's fair. It is a Barbra. It's a Barbra Streisand. You were correct.
[41:14] Alyssa: I need to put these two songs together.
[41:16] Jake: Exactly. I don't know if this is like-
[41:18] Alyssa: I don't know a lot from Barbra. It's like two-thirds Barbra on the show.
[41:22] Jake: If something I realized, the poker face, Shelby and Rachel, that's also not like a Glee original arrangement.
[41:30] Alyssa: Which is something that I learned, like, recent years.
[41:35] Jake: Right.
[41:36] Alyssa: Yeah.
[41:36] Jake: I was like, is this common knowledge? Do Gleeks know this?
[41:40] Alyssa: This is, like, Stephanie Germanotta put that arrangement together, right?
[41:46] Jake: I can't remember who put it together, but I just remember hearing that, like, the arrangement was done by somebody else.
[41:54] Alyssa: And I think Glee just did it from them.
[41:55] Jake: Oh.
[41:56] Alyssa: I don't know. I can't remember. But that, like, that shocked me for the longest time.
[42:00] Jake: The Cherry Tree Sessions.
[42:02] Alyssa: Oh, okay. Callaway is saying in the chat, the Cherry Tree Sessions album poker face arrangement. Yes.
[42:08] Jake: Hey.
[42:11] Alyssa: Okay.
[42:16] Jake: Wait, so Jake, you're hoping to see One Less Spell to Answer, House is Not a Home. Is there anything else that you're hoping to see out of this very cup?
[42:20] Jake: Yeah, One Less Spell. Disco Inferno. Is she still here?
[42:25] Alyssa: Disco Inferno is solidified round four.
[42:28] Jake: Oh, awesome. Because-
[42:29] Alyssa: She's up in heaven already.
[42:31] Jake: Yeah.
[42:32] Alyssa: Alyssa, you said you did the college program, correct, at Disney?
[42:35] Alyssa: I did. I did do the college program, yeah.
[42:37] Jake: So, like, Disco Inferno is a song on the Guardians coaster, right?
[42:41] Alyssa: Yes. Yes, it is.
[42:43] Jake: I got that one. I was very pleased that I got that.
[42:45] Alyssa: Oh, you got that song?
[42:46] Jake: That's a good one.
[42:48] Alyssa: No, I just got-
[42:49] Jake: The Glee version is so much better.
[42:52] Alyssa: I wholeheartedly agree. She does so much with that song. Yeah.
[42:58] Jake: Every single person-
[42:59] Alyssa: The Glee version on Cosmic Rewind. Oh, my God.
[43:02] Jake: Please.
[43:02] Alyssa: Right. It is not my favorite on that ride. I love Everybody Wants to Rule the World on that ride.
[43:08] Jake: Also, a Glee cast.
[43:09] Alyssa: That is a Glee cast song that got removed too fast.
[43:14] Jake: Did I get- I might have gotten, like, when I went back, I think I got Konga.
[43:19] Alyssa: I know Konga, yeah.
[43:22] Jake: Konga's, like, the most common one, right? Because I think I got Konga also.
[43:25] Alyssa: I really had- I had a fun time with Konga.
[43:28] Jake: Konga was fun.
[43:29] Alyssa: Konga was fun.
[43:30] Jake: I just- my friend who was currently in the college program, she was like, uh, Konga again? And I was like, listen, I'm sorry. I liked it.
[43:38] Alyssa: I think it's fun. I think it's cute. Yeah.
[43:40] Jake: Every person I ride that ride with, I always make them listen to the Glee cast version of Disco Inferno afterwards. And I'm like, all right, compare. What are your opinions? Everyone's like, oh, my God, this version is so much better.
[43:52] Alyssa: No, and, like, she does, like, somewhat- like, there's, like, a rasp to it, too.
[43:56] Jake: Yes.
[43:58] Alyssa: It's so good.
[43:59] Jake: Exactly.
[44:01] Alyssa: Don't Rain My Praises would be another good one.
[44:04] Jake: Wait, oh, don't- hey, we have not seen- Santana's Drump is solidified round four, but we have not seen the OG Rachel Drump.
[44:12] Alyssa: The OG Drump? Ooh, that'd be a good one.
[44:15] Jake: Yeah.
[44:16] Alyssa: That would be a good one to pull.
[44:17] Jake: I am Team Rachel on Drump. I love Santana's, too, but, like, Rachel's is the classic.
[44:24] Alyssa: There we go.
[44:24] Jake: Watching that in season one was, like, one of those moments I was like, oh, my God, I love this show. It was so good.
[44:31] Alyssa: Yeah, you know, it's iconic.
[44:32] Jake: Yeah, right.
[44:33] Alyssa: Have I ever said what I think that Santana's Drump sounds like? It's- it never has left my brain. Um-
[44:38] Jake: No, what?
[44:39] Alyssa: It sounds like a Pokemon gym leader song, like a dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun.
[44:44] Jake: Wait, that's so good.
[44:47] Alyssa: Like- like Rachel's walking up, and she's, like, going to fight Santana in a Pokemon battle.
[44:53] Jake: That's so fun. I- I see it. I want to- I'm, like, building a carousel slide in my head. I need to do something with that. That's so funny.
[45:00] Alyssa: We need Pokemon.
[45:01] Jake: You can help with that one if you need, because I kind of wanted to draw that now.
[45:04] Alyssa: Thank you so much. I love.
[45:06] Jake: Oh, yeah.
[45:06] Alyssa: Wait, so we're looking for Drump. What else are we looking for, Jake?
[45:09] Jake: Um, Chasing Pavements. Is she still here?
[45:12] Alyssa: Chasing Pavements. Dead.
[45:16] Jake: I think that, um, Chasing Pavements was taken up by Ain't No Way, if I recall correctly.
[45:22] Alyssa: Okay. Like-
[45:23] Jake: Yeah.
[45:24] Alyssa: Fair. But, like, yeah, I'm- I'm always here for a Humble- a Humbleberry duet.
[45:29] Jake: Um-
[45:30] Alyssa: Yeah.
[45:30] Jake: That one really sings. Um, it's not an usual thing alive, either.
[45:36] Alyssa: Um, it's not a- it's not unusual, um, gone, but being alive is in round four.
[45:42] Jake: Okay. Good, good, good.
[45:43] Alyssa: I had to breathe. I had to breathe.
[45:46] Jake: It hurts me.
[45:47] Alyssa: Yeah.
[45:47] Jake: Gives me a heartburn once again.
[45:49] Alyssa: There's- there's hope for me in this blackhead still. Okay, so we're all good.
[45:53] Jake: We're good. Okay, here we go. We're 45 minutes in with song number one.
[46:00] Alyssa: Oh!
[46:05] Jake: Let me pull it up.
[46:07] Alyssa: Oh my god, I can finally tell Patrick I did- I got a song and I won.
[46:11] Jake: You got a song. It, um, um, if you recall what you said, that wasn't a claimed feature.
[46:17] Alyssa: Borderline?
[46:18] Jake: It is, indeed. Borderline, Open Your Heart.
[46:22] Alyssa: I will take that. That's beautiful.
[46:25] Jake: Okay, yeah.
[46:26] Alyssa: It hits. It hits.
[46:27] Jake: Alyssa, do you want to start discourse on Borderline, Open Your Heart?
[46:32] Alyssa: Absolutely. The fit's amazing. I swear I had that exact Rachel outfit in 2009. It's so cute. Yeah.
[46:38] Jake: It is adorable. Oh my god. Um, I- can I just say I never noticed, I don't know why, that all of the Madonna people, like, in the hallway?
[46:49] Alyssa: No.
[46:50] Jake: I don't know.
[46:51] Alyssa: You're just waking up to this?
[46:52] Jake: I don't know. I was like, what's that? And then I was like, oh, because I guess I just-
[46:57] Alyssa: Oh, wait. That girl's dressed like Madonna. Oh my god. They're all dressed like Madonna.
[47:02] Jake: Oh my god, they're all Madonna. I was always so focused on Finn and Rachel.
[47:07] Alyssa: It's so iconic.
[47:07] Jake: I was like, okay, gotta analyze.
[47:08] Alyssa: You got your, uh, financial blinders on. Yeah.
[47:10] Jake: I do.
[47:10] Alyssa: No, it's iconic.
[47:11] Jake: I do. Oh my god. Oh, no, okay. I love- I love Finn's, like, the repeat. I had to sing that part. It's, like, my favorite. I don't know what it is.
[47:19] Alyssa: I'll see you as you walk on by. Yes.
[47:23] Jake: Like, it's-
[47:25] Alyssa: Incredible.
[47:26] Jake: Yes. It's like, I have to sing that when I hear the original these days.
[47:29] Alyssa: Yeah.
[47:29] Jake: You have to.
[47:30] Alyssa: No, that's what I was saying, where it's like, if you're listening to the song, you need to be doing the echo as well as the-
[47:36] Jake: The echo.
[47:38] Alyssa: Leah track.
[47:39] Jake: Yes.
[47:39] Alyssa: You need to. And that's, like, that is- that's, like, a consistent thing with a lot of Glee songs, is that you kind of have this echo. You know who's a Gleek because they're like, oh, that person's echo- that person's doing the echo.
[47:48] Jake: Oh, they got it.
[47:53] Alyssa: Yes.
[47:54] Jake: Jake, what are you thinking of Borderline Open Your Heart?
[47:58] Alyssa: She is very beautiful to me. I love her.
[48:02] Jake: She's great.
[48:03] Alyssa: It is, I think, a really- is it my favorite Finchel duet? I don't know.
[48:10] Jake: Okay, when we- when we consider Finchel duets, there are, like, a few, like-
[48:13] Alyssa: Okay, wait. No, Faithfully Exists.
[48:15] Jake: You gotta- you gotta consider Faithfully Exists.
[48:17] Alyssa: That's true.
[48:17] Jake: That's true.
[48:18] Alyssa: Yeah.
[48:19] Jake: Um, but, like, there are, like, a few that, like, are on paper Finchel duets, like, Don't Stop Believing, classified as Finchel duet because they're the only two people on the track.
[48:28] Alyssa: But I don't know. It's anybody's game with that one.
[48:32] Jake: Right, right. Without looking at a list.
[48:36] Alyssa: I'd say this one's gotta be, like, top five Finchel duets, probably.
[48:40] Jake: This is great.
[48:41] Alyssa: It's in my top, for sure.
[48:43] Jake: I- I referred to my- my list of season one songs, and, um, it's number 41 out of- in season one, which-
[48:54] Alyssa: Okay.
[48:55] Jake: It's, like-
[48:56] Alyssa: Season one-
[48:56] Jake: It's pretty good.
[48:58] Alyssa: Yeah.
[48:58] Jake: Like, I want to say, like, what, like, 120 songs?
[49:01] Alyssa: I have 112, but, like, I include some- I included some that, like, did not have iTunes releases, so.
[49:07] Jake: Okay.
[49:09] Alyssa: But, like, yeah, 112 on my list. So, like, that's top half, for sure.
[49:13] Jake: Yeah.
[49:14] Alyssa: Um, there's just a lot of really good stuff in season one. It's, like, it's right below Imagine, for me, which, like-
[49:22] Jake: Yeah.
[49:23] Alyssa: And then right below Open Your Heart is I'll Stand By You by Finn.
[49:28] Jake: Yeah.
[49:28] Alyssa: Okay.
[49:28] Jake: I don't know. It's falling in that region.
[49:31] Alyssa: No, this is really good.
[49:32] Jake: And also, like, I'm going to reopen a canned bit, potentially, that is Glee porn.
[49:42] Alyssa: I think that, like, this song is Glee porn coded, but complimentary.
[49:47] Jake: That, like, I think that, like, it, like, it's not, like, doing the safe thing.
[49:51] Alyssa: Because Glee porn, to refresh your memory, if you recall what I mean when I-
[50:01] Jake: If you recall.
[50:01] Alyssa: If you recall Glee porn.
[50:06] Jake: Okay, so Glee porn, to me, is, like, when they kind of, like, gives you hell is Glee porn coded to me.
[50:07] Alyssa: That it's, like, okay, they're doing a popular song.
[50:10] Jake: The- Rachel's singing it.
[50:12] Alyssa: They're doing it in the choir room.
[50:13] Jake: And, like, all the characters are, like, doing things that they typically do.
[50:17] Alyssa: That it's, like, okay, this is kind of- they're doing all the safe things.
[50:21] Jake: Right.
[50:21] Alyssa: You know what I mean? Rachel's doing that season one thing where she's, like, like, kind of, like, huh?
[50:25] Jake: Like, it's, like, it feels like, you know, she's kind of leaning in.
[50:28] Alyssa: Putting her whole bodies into it.
[50:29] Jake: Yes.
[50:32] Alyssa: Where I feel like this is also Glee porn coded in a way that it's, like, okay, so you have the two leads of the show, Finn and Rachel, singing in a tribute episode a mash-up of two songs of that artist, Madonna.
[50:48] Jake: And they're also just, like, walking around, like, a high school.
[50:50] Alyssa: Like, it's, like, this is, like, obviously, like, unquestionably Glee.
[50:56] Jake: And so, like, I don't know.
[50:57] Alyssa: Glee porn kind of works sometimes.
[51:01] Jake: You know what I mean?
[51:02] Alyssa: Yeah, I get what you're saying.
[51:03] Jake: It just means that it's quintessential Glee.
[51:05] Alyssa: It just means that it is so Glee that somebody can make a porn of it and it would still be recognized as Glee.
[51:11] Jake: Yeah.
[51:12] Alyssa: Like, you don't need to, like, know who these characters are.
[51:14] Jake: Like, I think that, like, for, like, a song like Faithfully, it helps to know, like, what's going on with the characters.
[51:23] Alyssa: If you watch Faithfully out of context, like, that, it adds layers.
[51:27] Jake: But, like, this, I'm, like, you get it.
[51:31] Alyssa: It's fun, you know?
[51:33] Jake: You could show a layman this and they would be like, oh, this is wonderful. Where can I watch more?
[51:38] Alyssa: And, yeah, he would understand.
[51:40] Jake: Got it.
[51:40] Alyssa: Before watching this, because the spins in the end are, like, crazy.
[51:46] Jake: Oh, true.
[51:47] Alyssa: You're just spinning around that piano, like, I'm getting dizzy.
[51:50] Jake: I want to throw up.
[51:51] Alyssa: Yeah.
[51:53] Jake: I, I wish the best for this song.
[51:56] Alyssa: I, I only want the best.
[51:58] Jake: I, this far in the competition, I think I'd be okay sending it home.
[52:02] Alyssa: But, like, I wouldn't love doing that, you know?
[52:05] Jake: No.
[52:06] Alyssa: I feel the same way.
[52:07] Jake: I'm scared.
[52:08] Alyssa: It's lived a decent life on the Glackett.
[52:10] Jake: So, I don't know.
[52:14] Alyssa: It's top for me.
[52:15] Jake: But if, I was listening to the playlist and I was like, if something stronger than it comes up, I would, I would have some heartburn.
[52:25] Alyssa: Yeah.
[52:26] Jake: This feels, like, kind of, like, chopping block material, but I don't want it to be chopped.
[52:31] Alyssa: Right.
[52:33] Jake: Yeah.
[52:34] Alyssa: Okay.
[52:35] Jake: Anyway, do we have anything?
[52:36] Alyssa: I won't be devastated if it goes.
[52:38] Jake: Right.
[52:39] Alyssa: Do we have anything to, any final notes on Borderline Open Your Heart?
[52:43] Jake: I drew Rachel, like, singing this song and I was looking for it while Jake was talking and I can't find it.
[52:48] Alyssa: I'm so sad.
[52:49] Jake: Like, I have this fan art of Rachel.
[52:51] Alyssa: Send it to me when you find it.
[52:52] Jake: I will.
[52:53] Alyssa: After the, after I know exactly where it is, I just can't grab it right now.
[52:57] Jake: I mean, you chose the right Rachel fit to draw.
[53:00] Alyssa: Very, very cute.
[53:01] Jake: So good.
[53:01] Alyssa: Okay.
[53:04] Jake: Again, Borderline Open Your Heart.
[53:06] Alyssa: Let's see.
[53:08] Jake: It's gonna be this one.
[53:09] Alyssa: Oh, interesting.
[53:12] Jake: Interesting.
[53:13] Alyssa: Interesting.
[53:16] Jake: I feel like, okay, so here's a fun little trivia as I'm pulling it up.
[53:23] Alyssa: Um, it's another mashup by the same original artist.
[53:33] Jake: Oh, another Madonna mashup?
[53:36] Alyssa: Is it Dress You Up?
[53:38] Jake: It is Dress You Up.
[53:39] Alyssa: Oh, that.
[53:43] Jake: I hate to start a discourse like this, but I can't keep it in.
[53:50] Alyssa: I know my vote.
[53:53] Jake: You know your vote?
[53:54] Alyssa: Oh, I can't tell which one you're gonna do, to be honest.
[54:01] Jake: And what if I said I know mine, too?
[54:06] Alyssa: I would say, really interesting.
[54:09] Jake: Yeah, I don't know mine.
[54:10] Alyssa: So if anybody wants to have a discourse on it.
[54:12] Jake: Wait, listen, before we say anything, do you wanna, where do you stand?
[54:18] Alyssa: I mean, not with the competition, just with the song generally, I guess.
[54:22] Jake: Yeah, let's, yeah, let's just talk about this.
[54:24] Alyssa: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[54:25] Jake: Let's talk about this.
[54:26] Alyssa: I love, I mean, I love Unique. You know that I do.
[54:32] Jake: I love her.
[54:33] Alyssa: You voted her through before.
[54:35] Jake: I did. I did vote her through.
[54:37] Alyssa: You tested well with Unique audiences, yeah.
[54:39] Jake: I did. She has, she has a fuck-ass bob in this song.
[54:47] Alyssa: It hurts to see.
[54:48] Jake: It hurts to see.
[54:51] Alyssa: Honestly, I hate, I think you'd usually just, Unique's outfits, like, I mean, we've talked about this, and they're not great ever, usually.
[54:56] Jake: I wanted to talk about Unique's outfits, actually.
[55:02] Alyssa: Oh, okay.
[55:03] Jake: And here's the perfect opportunity.
[55:04] Alyssa: Let's go.
[55:05] Jake: Yes. I'm with you. Like, I always hated the way Unique was styled, right?
[55:13] Alyssa: Like, it's very, it's not good.
[55:16] Jake: However, I don't know, I remember listening to Kevin and Jenna's podcast, and I guess Alex Newell's saying, like, a lot of those choices were, it's like, okay, Unique is trying to discover their identity, right?
[55:34] Alyssa: And so, Wade was going through his, like, mother's closet, trying to find clothes that more suited to his identity.
[55:47] Jake: Yeah.
[55:48] Alyssa: Oh, this makes it, that's why it's, like,
[55:51] Jake: Wait, I'm convinced that, wait.
[55:53] Alyssa: Such an older woman, you know?
[55:54] Jake: It's, like, I think this makes sense, actually.
[55:57] Alyssa: No, I totally agree.
[55:59] Jake: And I think that, like, that, because I don't think that's anything, kind of, like, canon that we know that, like, Unique is actually, like, rifling through her mom's, like.
[56:07] Alyssa: Right, no, it's never, like, addressed.
[56:10] Jake: Yeah.
[56:11] Alyssa: But, like, I recall this as well.
[56:11] Jake: It's a character choice.
[56:13] Alyssa: Yeah, that Alex Newell was, like, talking about it. Like, that she, because some of them, like, I'm watching episodes. We, when Elias and I, when I introduced the series to Elias, I started in, like, season four, season five era, just, like, showing him, like, kind of, like, the worst of the worst episodes.
[56:27] Jake: And, like, there are some, like, Hall of Fame awful Unique outfits.
[56:33] Alyssa: And, like, there, it's, like, it would be the nurse this year.
[56:37] Jake: Like, she's kind of dressed like
[56:40] Alyssa: Nurse Unique.
[56:41] Jake: Right.
[56:42] Alyssa: Mob wife vibes in this one.
[56:44] Jake: It's, like, these, like, very, like, flowy shirts.
[56:47] Alyssa: And, like, the, like, fur jacket.
[56:48] Jake: Like, why, yeah.
[56:50] Alyssa: But if it's, like, oh, she was shopping in her mom's closet and her mom shops at JCPenney, then that makes sense to me.
[56:55] Jake: Yeah, like, I feel like, I feel like it's made Unique's outfits a lot more palatable. It's, like, oh, okay, this is probably what was going on with the character.
[57:03] Alyssa: So, like, it's easier to swallow, I guess.
[57:07] Jake: It's not just, like, they're just doing Unique dirty, you know.
[57:14] Alyssa: But I do recall, like, Alex and Noah also, like, talking about, like, not really being crazy about the amount of, like, stilettos that Unique wears.
[57:23] Jake: Right.
[57:24] Alyssa: Like, Unique is, like, re-watching it recently, I'm like, oh, my god. I can't imagine entire days of just walking around in those.
[57:36] Jake: They are thick.
[57:38] Alyssa: Yes.
[57:38] Jake: Yeah.
[57:39] Alyssa: There were girls that did that in high school.
[57:41] Jake: I do remember that, that there were girls that wore stilettos and, like, really tall shoes to high school.
[57:46] Alyssa: Crazy.
[57:47] Jake: It's not a choice I would make.
[57:49] Alyssa: No.
[57:49] Jake: Oh my god.
[57:51] Alyssa: Love yourselves.
[57:52] Jake: Yeah.
[57:54] Alyssa: Alex and Noah will say, like, boogie shoes was, like, their first time wearing those.
[58:00] Jake: And trying to do the dance in those shoes was, like, incredibly difficult.
[58:05] Alyssa: Crazy.
[58:06] Jake: Yeah.
[58:07] Alyssa: And this is why they're Tony nominated.
[58:09] Jake: Exactly.
[58:09] Alyssa: Put in the hours.
[58:10] Jake: Winner.
[58:11] Alyssa: Sorry, winner.
[58:12] Jake: Yeah, there we go.
[58:12] Alyssa: What else do we have to say about Bitches Back, Dress These Up?
[58:18] Jake: Someone said it gets season four points.
[58:21] Alyssa: There we go.
[58:22] Jake: So, fun fact, on my season four list, this song is number 117 out of 127.
[58:33] Alyssa: Whoa.
[58:34] Jake: Oh.
[58:35] Alyssa: I know what you mean when you said earlier, I know my vote.
[58:39] Jake: Okay.
[58:40] Alyssa: But, okay. So, since listening to your podcast, though, I will say it's grown more on me.
[58:45] Jake: So, like, I haven't touched this list in a long time.
[58:49] Alyssa: Like, I definitely think it should be a little bit higher than it is.
[58:53] Jake: Because right now it's sitting just under Copacabana, which is...
[58:57] Alyssa: No, that's insane.
[59:00] Jake: So, like, I don't know.
[59:02] Alyssa: Overall, it doesn't do much for me.
[59:04] Jake: Alex Newell can do no wrong.
[59:06] Alyssa: But, like, there's the writer of it all, which I just don't...
[59:11] Jake: That's what really just...
[59:13] Alyssa: Right.
[59:14] Jake: But I think also we need to acknowledge,
[59:18] Alyssa: Ryder is a character on this show.
[59:20] Jake: And I do think this is Ryder's best vocal.
[59:24] Alyssa: It is.
[59:25] Jake: How do we feel about that?
[59:26] Alyssa: It is.
[59:27] Jake: And without looking at a list, it is.
[59:28] Alyssa: I don't know.
[59:29] Jake: I do like...
[59:29] Alyssa: Like, what other song?
[59:32] Jake: I'm not listening to any other writer.
[59:34] Alyssa: Unchained Melody?
[59:34] Jake: I'm a weird person that likes...
[59:36] Alyssa: I like Jukebox Hero.
[59:37] Jake: I don't know. I'm weird about that.
[59:38] Alyssa: But I know.
[59:41] Jake: Yeah, Everybody Hurts is good, too.
[59:42] Alyssa: It's good.
[59:42] Jake: It's cute.
[59:45] Alyssa: Yeah, it's not taking the top spot for me.
[59:48] Jake: To me, this song is...
[59:50] Alyssa: Yeah.
[59:51] Jake: For me.
[59:52] Alyssa: For me, this song is less so about his singing and more so about the eyes that they're throwing back and forth in this song.
[59:58] Jake: Oh, yeah.
[59:59] Alyssa: The right deal.
[1:00:00] Andrew McGuire: The tension is crazy in this song. Like when Unique touches his shoulder and he's like, oh, yeah, you're just not doing much. Yeah, there are things to unpack with Ryder and Unique that, you know what, I'll say I don't actually feel like unpacking right now in this moment. I know that Alison Dodge is a big Rydeek shipper. Maybe if she was involved in this conversation, maybe I would be more willing to have a conversation about the complexities.
[1:00:34] Alyssa: Exactly. I have a PhD in claim, not Rydeek. Unfortunately, I can't actually get into Rydeek. My publicist is saying don't actually comment on Rydeek right now. I think for me, the concept of Rydeek is really cool. I just wish it wasn't Ryder. Look, if it was a different guy, like, you know, yes, the concept of Rydeek is much more interesting than the actual pursuit, which is actually the case for many Glee couples and characters.
[1:01:01] Andrew McGuire: That is very true. Yeah, very true. I could say that about Clayton in a way.
[1:01:07] Alyssa: No, wait, I know you've been saying Marleek and Marleek. I'm here for Marleek. We need to actually wake that up a little bit. Marleek is for one last kiss. I mean, you're not going to sell me on that song. But I'm being sold on Marleek as a couple more so than Rydeek.
[1:01:23] Andrew McGuire: Oh, a couple. I think we need some fanfics about that. I would. I feel like Marleek does have legs, like people do talk about Marleek, right?
[1:01:36] Alyssa: Oh, that would be so cute for Marleek's storyline too, because she just didn't, I don't know, you know, it's a little more grab. But yeah, you know, I think I know my vote now, to be fair.
[1:01:49] Andrew McGuire: I know your vote. I do. I do want to say that I don't know if I've said this before with Bitches Back Dress You Up, but Bitches Back Dress You Up is actually the song, just Andrew Lohr time is the song that I listened to on the way to my first date when I was 17 years old. And so that will always be, and it was like, I remember being like, I'm going to listen to like a bunch of songs. And then I realized that the drive was like, quite literally five minutes. And so I was like, okay, well, I guess it's only going to be this song. And sure enough, I don't know. So I'm like, wait, this always has like a kind of like, special place in my heart for 17-year-old Andrew who really vibed with the song and 30-year-old Andrew who still does.
[1:02:37] Alyssa: That was beautiful. Do we want to vote? Do we have anything else to add?
[1:02:46] Andrew McGuire: I think I'm good. I like both of them. I do. They're both fantastic. I love that we got a Madonna versus Madonna. That's fun. Yeah, there's still a lot of Madonna left in the glacket, which I probably feel like there is. I know that like, like a prayer is still around for minutes is still around famously. Like a virgin, like a virgin still yet to be pulled. Okay. Yeah. Okay. So she got some shooters right now.
[1:03:21] Alyssa: That is a good amount, honestly, comparatively, like to the entirety of Glee. That's a lot. Last I'd heard there was still a good amount. So yeah. Okay. Should I vote first?
[1:03:34] Andrew McGuire: Go for it. Okay. Thank you so much. I will be voting for baby girl of my life, which is back to see what I'm obsessed with.
[1:03:46] Alyssa: Oh, okay. I'm gonna vote. I'm gonna vote for, um, I'm gonna vote for borderline. Wait, Alyssa, wait, talk me through what led you to that decision.
[1:04:03] Alyssa: Okay. I was talking a big game about wanting to see borderline. Of course, I was happy to see dress you up. I feel like this podcast did like, make me like that song a lot more. And it feels like it's like part of the lore of this, of this podcast is making people like that song more. There's a few songs like that.
[1:04:22] Andrew McGuire: This is the campaign. Yeah.
[1:04:25] Alyssa: Yes. But after further thinking, I'm like, I drew fan art for borderline, open your heart. I dressed like Rachel in 2000. What am I doing? What am I doing here? I was enchanted for a moment. I was like, wow, I absolutely need that mob wife aesthetic.
[1:04:51] Andrew McGuire: So Jake, many Gleeks would kill to be in this exact position. Do you feel you feel confident in your vote?
[1:04:56] Alyssa: I do. I do. Yes.
[1:05:01] Andrew McGuire: Do you want to draw it out further? Or do we just rip off the bandaid?
[1:05:05] Alyssa: Um, I honestly both of these songs, like, I would be fine with both of them leaving. Like I would not be upset with either one. However, I do like one more than the other. I know what it is.
[1:05:21] Andrew McGuire: And that would be borderline.
[1:05:24] Alyssa: That fucking sucks.
[1:05:25] Andrew McGuire: I'm so sorry. I know. I know dress you up as your baby.
[1:05:29] Alyssa: My baby.
[1:05:30] Andrew McGuire: I'm so sorry.
[1:05:31] Alyssa: It really propelled my entire dating life. Yeah. But you may be have a greater appreciation for dress you up but not more than borderline.
[1:05:43] Andrew McGuire: I'm so sorry.
[1:05:44] Alyssa: No, it sucks. I mean, Madonna wins regardless. So hey, um,
[1:05:51] Andrew McGuire: Oh, no.
[1:05:53] Alyssa: Eduardo saying bestie status officially revoked. So live with that now.
[1:05:58] Andrew McGuire: That's so funny. Because I was listening to the last episode where you did this song. And I was like, I wouldn't love this song. I was like, man, I really just you're not getting like, that wouldn't it be something if I killed this?
[1:06:10] Alyssa: And sure enough, you came in here with a gun. Yeah.
[1:06:15] Andrew McGuire: Yeah, I'm glad I voted first. Um, wait, that was that's insane. I will miss bitches back. Dress you up so dearly. But borderline open your heart. I mean, it's a good one. So hey, right, Jake, that was so much for joining us for this competition. You have been a delight. And we'll see you again sometime.
[1:06:35] Jake: Yes, please have me back anytime. I will always love it.
[1:06:40] Andrew McGuire: I hope you continue to enjoy your listening.
[1:06:49] Jake: Yes, of course. Gleeks come find me at Disney World. You know, let's hang out. You know, hey, Disney Gleeks. Yes.
[1:06:59] Andrew McGuire: Bye. Okay, for our next Gleek. I am talking about Callaway.
[1:07:09] Alyssa: Callaway. Okay. So this has been a long time coming Callaway.
[1:07:16] Callaway: It really has, you know, this is really, really insane. Your TikTok, where I meant to send this to you, Alyssa.
[1:07:26] Callaway: Callaway, wait, paint a picture of this TikTok that you made.
[1:07:31] Alyssa: The one today.
[1:07:32] Callaway: I mean, you've made like a number of them. Let's just like, let's go through them all where it has to do with Glacket. It needs the top hits the greatest hits.
[1:07:42] Callaway: I mean, some good Gleek TikToks. I think my most viral Gleek TikTok is when we had Hope is a Country and the Kamala Walls campaign was kicking off. And I was like, guys, it is no surprise that Gen Z and millennials are taking so much to this Tim Walls figure. Ryan Murphy literally trained us for this. See Burt Hummel's political career like that exactly is life imitating me. I think that is the most successful Glee talk. I did one recently about how a true theater Gleek could go hit like five Glee cast members on or off Broadway. Right now. That's not right now anymore. I think because Alex left Chicago, but I'm confirmed coming to New York in March and I'm going to see Lea Michele and chess which Hey, I just want to say and this will tie in.
My like true connection to Glee is that I was a very serious theater kid. Yeah, in an aggressive way. So to me, it's like, it's not Oh, Lea Michele and Aaron DeVito in chess. It's like chess the musical. You mean like, the score that I listen to all the time and like one of my favorite flops and watch the Idina Menzel Josh Bert like I I'm very excited for this.
[1:09:02] Alyssa: Uh huh. So it's not even like the Lea Michele. I mean, that's just like that's an incredible added bonus because I was just texting my friend about this the other day. Like I try and be the person I never want to be someone who's upset when understudies are on. I think that's really shitty and like defeats the point of live theater. No, it's crazy. Keep that opinion to yourself or me personally. Like, I will be flying there. Liam. I've never seen Lea Michele live. And like, oh, this is huge. As we may get into I am somewhat of a Gleek.
[1:09:36] Callaway: I would hope so. You're part of this conversation. Yeah, big for me. Yeah. And then, you know, the one that really got me here, I believe was my grilled cheeses esque epiphany that I had in the sauna the other day. I was in the sauna. I need to hear about this.
[1:09:56] Callaway: Well, right. So I was doing my workout listening to Gleek of the Week. It was like whatever most recent episode. And then I go into the sauna. Obviously, also, no headphones in the sauna, no phones in the sauna. Why people bring their phones in the sauna is very confusing to me. And this is a separate issue we can talk about later. But it was just meditating on the episode I'd heard. And it hit me like, No. Why have I never been on Gleek of the Week? Like this doesn't make sense. And I want to say this, like, I don't think you'll take offense to it. I think you'll understand what I mean. But it's like, there's some goals in life that are very big and lofty goals that would be it would be understandable if you got to the end of your life and didn't accomplish all of them. If I got to the end of my life, and had never been a guest on a Glee podcast, like this is a very attainable goal. And you're attaining it right now.
[1:11:01] Alyssa: This happened. Okay, this happened Wednesday. And now we're here Sunday.
[1:11:07] Callaway: And here we are. When you're in alignment with the Gloomiverse is how I feel.
[1:11:12] Alyssa: Exactly. No, that happened to me too. Because I did the animation like months ago. And I was like, I need I need I want so badly to be on this podcast. It lines up. The planets line up.
[1:11:20] Callaway: I'm so like, yes, your your Tick Tock Calloway where you were like, this message is for Andrew McGuire only. It's like that tickled me so much. I was like, oh, this girl, she has it.
[1:11:35] Alyssa: Of Leah Michelle, Rachel Berry pre Halo walking on sunshine energy about it.
[1:11:41] Callaway: Oh, you're she was she was running through you. Yeah. Um, so running through you as well, I would assume are some competitions that you hate. Um, what competitions would Okay, you also, I understand, have my whole day today has really been devoted to this. The notes are extensive. You can go look at my most recent Tick Tock, I did a little video about my prep today. Mostly, that I, I actually think this is really good. And this is another sort of Rachel pre Halo walking on sunshine. I came up with a document, I didn't want to sit here and just tell you all the competitions I didn't like. Sure. Instead, I decided to weave a strategic integration of black at grievances, glee hot takes and manifestations in the effort to help you get to know me as a Gleek while I tell you my grievances.
[1:12:41] Alyssa: So I have two questions for you, Callaway. Yeah, Ethan in the chat is asking for that sweet, sweet at what is Calloway dot pdf, like I'm emailing you a document to read on Instagram and TikTok.
[1:12:56] Callaway: And then also Callaway, my personal question for you before you go any further, is what is it that you do for a living? Because you I'm just, you've enticed my curiosity so much, so many things. Um, so a few things. I have a office job that is part time and kind of fake. I'm also a massage therapist now at the gym, aforementioned. I am a massage therapist at the gym I go to and then I go to the sauna. So I love that. Yeah, that is most of my job. Those two things take that time up. Yeah, we'll say last summer, I was also kind of the Will Schuster of my summer camp, of course, positive connotation. There's a summer camp near me that I went to for a long time as a kid, that they sort of were like, hey, you live near us now. Do you want to like maybe do anything this summer? And I ended up creating a music activity. So like, truly, for multiple hours a day, I taught kids ukulele, and we did indeed do Somewhere Over the Rainbow. You know, you had to do it to him.
[1:14:10] Alyssa: That's so cute. I love that.
[1:14:15] Callaway: It was a lot of fun. I love. Okay, wait, so Calloway, return to form. What do we have here?
[1:14:23] Callaway: Oh, okay. So I have four threads that we can, for roads, we can go down, two of which are imperative that we talked about today, two of which could wait. So I'll start with my imperative threads. And this is relevant, because it's still in the cup. And I just want to talk to you about my first listening experience to one week of the week episode. So I'm there and y'all pull like a prayer, which to me, I know this is safe. I know she's gone through. And to me, like, like a prayer is a quintessential God tier Glee cast number. Like in terms of group numbers, you get the Rachel start, you get everyone doing a thing like Kirk, it's cute, mama, blah, blah, blah, let the goddamn choir sing. Take it home. blueprint, blueprint, like to me, nothing beats it. And then y'all pull paradise. And I'm like, oh yeah, this is a good song. Like this is a great competition number. I haven't thought about it in a while.
[1:15:28] Alyssa: You're bringing up an episode that was 2021. Just for the records.
[1:15:31] Callaway: I know. What do you think I did all day today? I just I remember this episode so well. And I remember my stomach, my stomach sinking. But yes, yeah, yeah. Yeah. So I and I want to make it clear. I'm not a paradise hater. I just until this podcast, I wasn't aware that paradise was something that we felt so strongly about as a community. Interesting. Okay, I had no I would I would say it's very good. I would be like, oh, this is a great competition number, like amazing work. But it to me, it was like an easy competition like, oh, like a pair of like, sorry, paradise for the dashboard light. I guess you're around one casualty. I would have never lost sleep over that. But now every time I tune into this goddamn podcast, whoever's coming over it is talking about how paradise is the best song on Glee. And I'm like, I just don't see it. I just don't see you're not alone in this. Wait, Alyssa, what are your thoughts on?
[1:16:30] Alyssa: Yeah, I actually wanted to talk about paradise a little bit today. So this is perfect. For me. I also didn't know that everybody was so into paradise when I came listening to this podcast, but in a different way, because I was one of the few people that like, I feel like I listened to meatloaf. Like I love meatloaf. Like I'm a fan of meatloaf. In general, my dad and I like that's like one of our favorite albums of all time. So I feel like I'm one of the few people that knew paradise before Glee. Okay, so I know like, um, I would do anything for love. What is another meatloaf meatloaf song? Uh, oh my god, like, the heat honestly, bad out of hell, bad out of hell. Like a bad out of hell, I'll be gone when the morning comes.
And that was the title of the music was that was did they have like a jukebox musical? Yes, they did. Bad out of hell is an album like a story album in itself. Like you have to kind of listen to bad out of hell like front to back and paradise is part of that. Yes. Paradise like a meatloaf version like has like a there's like more to it as well. Yes. Right. That's why it's hard to like, when you said oh, what's a meatloaf song? I'm like, it's the whole album. The whole album is like a story. So I was like, an individual song. But yes, there's a ton more to paradise. When I actually listened to the Glee version. I'm like, where's the rest of it? Yeah, it's like an eight minute song. Where's the rest?
Yeah. Oh, well, they don't because okay, they can't have the baseball part. That's what it is. It's um, wait, remind me what the baseball part is. Paradise. Paradise is the one with the baseball part. So there is a part in paradise in the original version. That is like a record like an actual recording from a baseball game. And it's about rounding the bases. Yes. Sorry. I sport.
[1:18:16] Alyssa: You're looking for his game. Yeah, game. Um, but yes, it's a baseball voiceover about rounding the bases. And it's like a like a metaphor for what's going on. It's right before Rachel, oh my god, meatloaf, Rachel, whoever sings stop right there. Oh, wait, me love doesn't sing that part. It's before Rachel says stop right there. It's right before that. There's a very, very long part that's not in the Glee version. So it's fun. It's a really fun theatrical song. Ethan in the chat, saying Rachel is vegan meatloaf, obsessed. There we go.
[1:19:00] Callaway: Wait, so Calloway, back to you, your paradise is number one hater.
[1:19:08] Callaway: Not there. So I'm looking at the list of things we could pull today. There's a lot of things if pulled against paradise, I would easily vote for them. And then there's a few things where I would be like, yeah, paradise is better than that. Again, I'm not a paradise full fledged hater. But I don't see the special sauce that this podcast has really lathered on it. Um, in my listening experience, everyone seems to be very pro paradise. I mean, I'm not I'm not one of their top shooters. I'm not.
[1:19:38] Andrew McGuire: Okay, so but then, lest we forget, because it did die, then in round two, and come back. And what I have to say about that, is that I, because this was the survivor, I will survive. Yes. Here's where Andrew, you're gonna, this is gonna be first, you don't like me, we were doing so well. Survivor, I will survive. We would have gone home in round one against can't fight this feeling. And that I mean, I can't even really get into all of my notes on the photo crisis that is currently like facing the blackhead.
[1:20:08] Callaway: Wait, but it round one went home against survivor, I will survive there. Okay, thank you. Yes, yes. So to me, when I was just like, okay, so paradise is now losing to a song, which I'm fine with, but the song it's losing to, I wouldn't have even put through it around one. So like, nothing good is happening for me on, on, on all of this. And I think it's just contributing more and more to the photo.
[1:20:38] Alyssa: Your life sucks is what I'm
[1:20:43] Callaway: No, no, wonderful, because I'm getting a chance to air the grievances. Yeah.
[1:20:48] Alyssa: Yeah, so just, I don't know, I know you really ride really hard for survivor, I will survive, but I love I'm obsessed. I won't I won't. Are you a fan? Are you? Are you a fan? Like, what are your characters that you ride for? Yeah, I'm curious.
[1:21:03] Callaway: So characters I ride for would be like, Finn. And I will concede sometimes Finn shines more in a duet or group capacity than in the solo capacity. And then I there's so many roads I could go down with this. When we talk about favorite characters on Gleek of the Week, I feel like we are resigned to talk about favorite characters who sing a lot on Glee. This is a whole overarching qualm I have. Not qualm, but I'm hearing it's a qualm. Yeah, I'm ready to hear a qualm.
[1:21:36] Callaway: Discussing what I actually think, as someone who grew up in voice lessons, dance classes, musical theater, love music, I'm not anti music. We missed the chance to talk about some of the best parts of Glee by only talking about musical numbers. That's true.
[1:22:03] Alyssa: Sue Sylvester, are you fucking kidding me? Questions asked, but I can't come on Gleek of the Week and be like, I ride hard for Sue Sylvester. Because then what are we talking about?
[1:22:14] Callaway: That's a really good point. Yeah, you can. I mean, Bish just went through. The way that riveting Rolo cannot stand up to a Sue song, but it could stand up to a riveting Dear Diary. Exactly, Calloway. This is so important for you to be bringing up. Because I feel like there's so many moments that I'm like, what are we even doing here? It's like you have found something so special here.
[1:22:47] Alyssa: So maybe we should discuss this off mic, because it has crossed my mind that one could make a glacket of entirely non-musical Glee moments. Are you suggesting like a glacket of, and I would rather die than do this exercise. Not of episodes.
[1:23:06] Callaway: No, I'm saying scenes. Glee scenes.
[1:23:10] Alyssa: Yes.
[1:23:13] Callaway: Every single scene is.
[1:23:17] Alyssa: We'd have to narrow it down a little bit.
[1:23:19] Callaway: There would be a starting glacket where forethought would go into the side by side, and you choose a number that matches up all into one.
[1:23:30] Alyssa: There would be a lot of thought that went into what gets the initial rankings.
[1:23:34] Callaway: The principal Figgins scenes, the Terry scenes, we just don't get to talk about the shit that makes Glee, Glee to me.
[1:24:08] Alyssa: Hey, I get that. Emma's one of my favorite characters personally, but I don't get to talk about her that often on this podcast because getting married today went home. Right.
[1:24:13] Callaway: Right. That's so true.
[1:24:15] Alyssa: That is true. Kendra, exactly.
[1:24:18] Callaway: Yeah, Josh Groban. Kendra.
[1:24:20] Alyssa: Famously Josh Groban, who does not sing on Glee.
[1:24:22] Callaway: Who should have sung on Glee. Anyway.
[1:24:26] Callaway: Great. That's one big thought, is that I never understood Paradise and that I think we should talk more about non-stop. And we should be talking less about Paradise by the Dashboard Light and more about Kendra Diarte.
[1:24:35] Alyssa: Yes, that's true. Absolutely.
[1:24:39] Callaway: Yeah, shout out Recovering Gleek. They're the ones that I think of when I hear Kendra, Terry, like that's where I got my conscience.
[1:24:45] Alyssa: She's living at the farm, right?
[1:24:47] Callaway: She's living at the farm upstate.
[1:24:49] Alyssa: Yes, yeah.
[1:24:50] Callaway: Shout out. Calloway, what else must we discuss?
[1:24:55] Callaway: What else must we discuss? Okay, well, just small gripe with you last week, trying to get ABC in over Shake It Out was insane to me. And this is also a sort of manifestation. Shake It Out is an excellent example of this to me. How Will I Know, which could be pulled tonight. Still around, yes.
[1:25:19] Callaway: As well as Three, that is like one of my favorite little Glee clusters. When they do the sort of stripped down, sick harmonies of a big song. That will get me every time.
[1:25:35] Alyssa: You're ready to see it, yeah.
[1:25:42] Callaway: Yeah, the only other Gleck agreements I really do need to get into before we start talking tonight.
[1:25:48] Alyssa: Before we start talking, yeah.
[1:25:50] Callaway: Before we begin.
[1:25:52] Alyssa: Before we start talking in earnest, I might lose some fans on this one, but you have to go with me.
[1:26:00] Callaway: Another round one competition where I feel like we really lost the folo ball. And I just wait for the tie-in. Forget You versus She's Not There. I understand that She's Not There is not the best folo. And I understand if I were to have to give a Holly Holiday best song, I would probably give it to Forget You. I hate Holly Holiday.
[1:26:26] Alyssa: I know that like Landslide is like...
[1:26:28] Callaway: Turning Tables?
[1:26:29] Alyssa: Landslide, Turning Tables.
[1:26:30] Callaway: Hold on, we're getting there.
[1:26:32] Alyssa: I hate Holly Holiday.
[1:26:35] Callaway: Yeah, we're going to talk about Landslide. And it's going to tie into a manifestation for today because...
[1:26:39] Alyssa: Okay, I'm done interrupting.
[1:26:42] Callaway: No, well, I mean, please do. But you saw my notes. Anyway, I do not understand. Like, are there any ride or dies for Holly Holiday here who can speak to this? Anybody in chat? Anybody?
[1:26:57] Alyssa: I don't get it.
[1:26:59] Callaway: She doesn't act.
[1:27:02] Alyssa: She looks lame and bland and annoying.
[1:27:05] Callaway: She wasn't Emmy.
[1:27:07] Alyssa: And?
[1:27:10] Callaway: She's a mother.
[1:27:11] Alyssa: So all of this to say, Santana-Brittany storyline. People point to Landslide. People point to Landslide over and over and over. And I, all signs point to Landslide being like something that should make me openly weep and being one of my favorite songs on Glee all time. I hate it.
[1:27:29] Callaway: Why is she ruining this moment between these two beautiful girls who are just trying to like...
[1:27:38] Alyssa: I... The Landslide cover of Glee is so disappointing to me.
[1:27:44] Callaway: Because of Holly Holiday.
[1:27:45] Alyssa: Disappointing.
[1:27:46] Callaway: Who contributes to the follow crisis.
[1:27:49] Alyssa: And...
[1:27:51] Callaway: Contributes to the follow crisis. This is big news. This is big, Andrew.
[1:27:55] Alyssa: Oh my God.
[1:27:56] Callaway: This is huge.
[1:27:58] Alyssa: Is Andrew July over Holly Holiday?
[1:27:58] Callaway: Yes.
[1:27:58] Alyssa: Thank you, Drew in the chat. April Rhodes over Holly Holiday. All the blondies over Holly Holiday. She's the worst blondie for her.
[1:28:05] Callaway: Kendra Giardino. And...
[1:28:07] Alyssa: There you go.
[1:28:11] Callaway: This is where we then get to all of my feelings that I should have felt about Landslide. And when you think about Landslide, that you feel.
[1:28:19] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:28:19] Callaway: All of those feelings funnel straight into mine for me.
[1:28:23] Alyssa: I do love mine.
[1:28:24] Callaway: That's Santolo.
[1:28:26] Alyssa: That makes me cry.
[1:28:28] Callaway: If we pull that tonight, you will see me cry.
[1:28:30] Alyssa: Yep.
[1:28:31] Callaway: Every Britannia feeling in my body goes, distills into mine. And we will not start Taylor Swift discourse right now. It is far too late in the evening for that. But it's not even about the Taylor Swift at all. It could be a different artist's song. The way Santana delivers that is unreal to me. Unreal. And I say this, I think there are some competitions on the black at the ruined lives to Sir With Love and mine being one of them. Throw up. I say this as someone who organized a cohort of my theater kid friends in middle school to sing the Glee cast version of To Sir With Love to our drama teacher at our end of year banquet. And everybody had the same arrangement, like people had solos.
[1:29:14] Alyssa: Oh yeah.
[1:29:19] Callaway: We rehearsed it at my house. Like, obvious, like, come on. Of course, yeah. So I, that is how much I love mine that I had to like, in my mind, yes, it beats To Sir With Love, which I respect as a true work of like, what it means to be Glee, to start with love. But like, what it means to have emotions for me, mine.
[1:30:00] Alyssa: And "Songbird," they're like up here for me.
[1:30:03] Andrew: See, this is where we disagree. "Landslide," number one. And then like, I feel like, where am I ranking mine versus "Songbird"? I would say, weirdly enough, I'm putting mine number two, "Songbird" number three. If we were to do those three ranking.
[1:30:21] Alyssa: Yeah, they're neck and neck. They're really neck and neck for me.
[1:30:24] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:30:25] Alyssa: Both of them.
[1:30:26] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:30:28] Alyssa: But hey, say your truth. That's beautiful.
[1:30:31] Andrew: Those are my big, like, things that have to be said in terms of things we have still left to pull. We are in an ongoing follow crisis. And I could speak more to it.
[1:30:44] Alyssa: It's over.
[1:30:46] Andrew: "Jessie's Girl" is back.
[1:30:47] Alyssa: "Jessie's Girl" is back, yes.
[1:30:48] Andrew: It's not about "Jessie's Girl." It's about the fact that every time a Finn solo has come up, you have voted the wrong one through. Like, even the times you did vote the Finn song through, I would have chosen the other song. And the times you didn't vote the Finn song through.
[1:31:01] Alyssa: Wow.
[1:31:03] Andrew: The Finn.
[1:31:04] Alyssa: I can't do right by him.
[1:31:05] Andrew: You've never made a decision about a solo that I agree with. It's very strange. I mapped it out.
[1:31:10] Alyssa: Okay, wow.
[1:31:14] Andrew: I totally get that. There's no Clayne duets left. And that's how I feel about the Clayne duets, because I feel like they got, like, they got, like, just the bad end of the stick, like every single time for some reason.
[1:31:25] Alyssa: Clayne and Finn.
[1:31:26] Andrew: Clayne and Finn.
[1:31:27] Alyssa: The decision-making is, it baffles the mind. Maybe one day we can sit down and I'll go through it, step by step.
[1:31:33] Andrew: Wait, Calloway, this has been, I could literally talk with you forever. I do want to—
[1:31:41] Alyssa: We should Glock it.
[1:31:42] Andrew: Are we, should we do this? Where we pull a song?
[1:31:45] Alyssa: I do want to Glock it. That cup needs to be here.
[1:31:49] Andrew: Alyssa, you should bring the mic now that you'll have me back at a future live stream. We can get into some—
[1:31:54] Alyssa: Oh, Calloway, I think that there will be petitions in the street after people listen to this.
[1:31:59] Andrew: There's so much we have not even—
[1:32:02] Alyssa: We've only just hit the surface.
[1:32:04] Andrew: Okay.
[1:32:05] Alyssa: Let's Glock it. Let's go.
[1:32:06] Andrew: Let's do it. What song is it going to be?
[1:32:08] Alyssa: I'm ready.
[1:32:09] Andrew: It's going to be, oh, it's going to be this one.
[1:32:11] Alyssa: I'm scared.
[1:32:12] Andrew: Oh, no one's talking about this.
[1:32:15] Alyssa: Nobody. Okay.
[1:32:16] Andrew: There is.
[1:32:17] Alyssa: No one. Check the tapes and then people will be like—
[1:32:20] Andrew: No one ever.
[1:32:21] Alyssa: Actually?
[1:32:22] Andrew: Want to talk about this song?
[1:32:24] Alyssa: Chat.
[1:32:25] Andrew: Let us know if you're talking about this song.
[1:32:28] Alyssa: Do I want to, you're going to know exactly what it is when I show you the thumbnail, because like what, it shows like the middle of the song as the thumbnail.
[1:32:36] Andrew: I also take it, like I truly was up at night worried that I wouldn't know.
[1:32:40] Alyssa: Oh, yes.
[1:32:41] Andrew: Well, I do know this, but sometimes I think judging by do you know the thumbnail is a really bad way to judge a clique.
[1:32:49] Alyssa: I will say.
[1:32:50] Andrew: Wait, why?
[1:32:52] Alyssa: I have had anxiety multiple times throughout.
[1:32:56] Andrew: Me, too.
[1:32:57] Alyssa: I've had anxiety about the exact thing covering this podcast, being like I'm not going to be able to guess the thumbnail and then there's going to be a fake link.
[1:33:04] Andrew: I actually do know this one, too.
[1:33:06] Alyssa: No.
[1:33:07] Andrew: Okay.
[1:33:08] Alyssa: Because the thumbnail is in the middle of the performance.
[1:33:11] Andrew: Yeah, it's fine.
[1:33:12] Alyssa: But sometimes it's like can you guess the thumbnail? And it's like—
[1:33:15] Andrew: A black screen.
[1:33:17] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:33:18] Andrew: And sure enough, people will get it.
[1:33:20] Alyssa: Someone gets it.
[1:33:21] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:33:22] Alyssa: Which is, I mean, good on them.
[1:33:24] Andrew: I have other gifts as a clique.
[1:33:25] Alyssa: It's not my gift.
[1:33:26] Andrew: Me, too.
[1:33:27] Alyssa: Me, too.
[1:33:28] Andrew: I understand.
[1:33:29] Alyssa: The gift of gab.
[1:33:30] Andrew: Okay. So we have, of course, in front of us here, "There Are Worse Things I Could Do."
[1:33:35] Alyssa: Here we go.
[1:33:36] Andrew: Low-key winner of the Glackett.
[1:33:39] Alyssa: I kind of got chills.
[1:33:42] Andrew: I got chills in the middle of that.
[1:33:44] Alyssa: I know it's not winning.
[1:33:46] Andrew: It's so special.
[1:33:48] Alyssa: It's obviously not winning, but it is excellent.
[1:33:50] Andrew: It's excellent. I'm so glad that we agreed, Calloway, because there seems to be very little that we agree on.
[1:33:54] Alyssa: No, like there's story.
[1:33:59] Andrew: It's one of those songs, it's like there's like a category of Glee songs where it's like all of these disparate stories come together in this song.
[1:34:04] Alyssa: It's anti-Glee porn.
[1:34:10] Andrew: It's anti-Glee porn. It's true. I think "Constant Craving" is in this kind of realm.
[1:34:16] Alyssa: Yes.
[1:34:17] Andrew: That's what I was thinking of.
[1:34:18] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:34:19] Andrew: Yes.
[1:34:20] Alyssa: I'm trying to think if there's any other examples that come to mind, but no, I love it. It's so like effective that it's like, I don't know. You can have, there's a version of this episode of Glee where it's like, okay, Cassandra July had a song, Unique had a song, Santana had a song. They were all three separate songs. And it's like, yeah, like that's more money on iTunes, I suppose. But it's like, I don't know. It's just like, let's combine it all into one. Masterful storytelling.
[1:34:49] Andrew: Very fun. And we get vocals from all three. And I know that people are like, it should have been a Santolo. And yeah, I would have loved to have heard it as an option. I really, I love this. I think it's so fun that all three of them are on it. I think I would have loved to have heard like all three of them, like all the way that they did "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" or something like that. You know, like the separate versions on mp3. But like, I think that it's so masterful that Unique, like specifically sings that line.
[1:35:18] Alyssa: The dream come true.
[1:35:20] Andrew: Yeah. Yes.
[1:35:21] Alyssa: Like, oh, I could feel and I could cry. Like that. That's like the stuff that gives me chills. That's the stuff that makes me like go like, you understand. You have to watch Glee for this reason. It's so good. Look at this.
[1:35:33] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:35:34] Alyssa: Yeah. It's so special. It's like, it's a reason why I do think that there is some discrepancy.
[1:35:42] Andrew: So I only recently remembered Patreon exists. So I've been a listener only for some time. And I think there's a difference between mp3 and mp4, as has been discussed. Like, this is one where I could see how a strictly mp3 person might be like, why are there three people singing? This should be—
[1:36:00] Alyssa: But when you see it in the context and the cameras, it's like, well, this is obviously a trio. This is a story.
[1:36:10] Andrew: Mm hmm.
[1:36:11] Alyssa: Yeah. And so you're following each story. And I remember like, watching this live that it's like, oh, like this is like really interesting what's going on with Santana, of course, with Britannia I love. But then it's like cut to Kate Hudson is like, oh, she getting freaky with Brody, you know? And it's like, that's, it's so fun to just like, I don't know. There's so many things at play, which I love. This to me is like a successful version of the like, you know, New York back to McKinley, back to this, back to this. Like it had, it had the older character in, in Santana. It had the younger character in Unique and it had a teacher and that's like, it's hard to make that work altogether. It's really, really great.
[1:37:00] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:37:01] Alyssa: Yeah. I don't know. I've really like turned around the past few years about "Cleese" as an episode for, for some reason I had like a sour taste in my mouth when it came to that episode. But like, I rewatch it like a year or two ago. Really, really great episode. Just like very like, like fast paced. And like, they got so much done in the 45 minutes where I'm like, there's not a dull moment. Really good episode.
[1:37:19] Andrew: Alert.
[1:37:20] Alyssa: I love that album.
[1:37:21] Andrew: Have it have a nice album.
[1:37:23] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:37:24] Andrew: It's good.
[1:37:25] Alyssa: It's good. And we have the opportunity to discuss how Cassandra July's fantastic and maybe could have given more. It's rare that we could discuss her and she was just brought up, which I just found to be serendipitous.
[1:37:38] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:37:39] Alyssa: And I mean Kate Hudson, "Song Sung Blue." Have either of you seen "Song Sung Blue"?
[1:37:45] Andrew: No.
[1:37:46] Alyssa: She just got an Oscar nominee. Her second Oscar nomination recently. And it was the sneak in the category. She did take Chase Infinity's spot for "One Battle After Another." She was really good. And also like "Song Sung Blue." Gleeks, you will enjoy this movie. It has music, which I know you love. And also it's like really and daringly like dumb. And like, it's like, it's just like a stupid time at the theater. So go watch it.
[1:38:19] Andrew: "Song Sung Blue."
[1:38:21] Alyssa: Oh, this.
[1:38:24] Andrew: I see.
[1:38:25] Alyssa: I see.
[1:38:26] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:38:27] Alyssa: I didn't know the title, but I know it's like you turn off your brain and watch a movie for once, you know?
[1:38:32] Andrew: Right.
[1:38:33] Alyssa: It is trauma porn though. So just know that.
[1:38:36] Andrew: Um, what else do we need to talk about?
[1:38:39] Alyssa: If "There Are Worse Things I Could Do." I was going to, I had a thought on this that it's like similar in how "Mine" works kind of because like "Mine," they successfully turned like a happy song into a sad song. And I spent a lot of my teenage years trying to convince people like, no, you don't understand "Mine." It's actually a breakup song. It's actually really, really sad. You have to, they're like, no, no, no, it's like a really sweet song. I'm like, no, listen to the Glee version of watch the Glee version and you'll understand what I'm saying. And with this too, it brings three dimensions in this song that I never, you know, had before with this song. I like this song a lot, but it brings three dimensions to a song that had like just one perspective before.
[1:39:23] Andrew: So you brought up happy song into sad song. This gives me the chance to discuss what I actually think was the most sick and twisted black competition that it ever gave you happy song into sad song. Y'all killed this in round one. And I think about it every day. "I Want to Hold Your Hand."
[1:39:42] Alyssa: Yes.
[1:39:44] Andrew: Yes.
[1:39:45] Alyssa: No, what is wrong with you?
[1:39:48] Andrew: And this is, again, it's part of the big follow issue because I understand it was against "I'll Stand By You," which I see why that competition was impossible, but I would have gone with the Colo on that. I, when we vote through the follow, and I know you already said this, but it's like the time that we did vote for the follow, it was the wrong time. What I'm saying is that every follow, I mean, most times a follow has come up, even when you vote through the other one, I wish you had voted through the follow, but also sometimes you vote through follows where I'm like, that's not the follow. I would have voted. It's not the follow. It's a crisis on all fronts.
[1:40:31] Alyssa: It's a crisis everywhere.
[1:40:33] Andrew: Like a follow comes up and Andrew's like, how can we vote the way that Callaway would not?
[1:40:38] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:40:39] Andrew: So specifically where I even knew who you were.
[1:40:42] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:40:43] Andrew: I was like, who is this Callaway person? And I don't want to vote in their best interest.
[1:40:47] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:40:48] Andrew: It was locked in. I forget that "I Want to Hold Your Hand" is not here all the time because I'm like, that's to me, that's like, that's crazy. I'm sorry. In the top 10.
[1:40:57] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:40:58] Andrew: I know. I know. I just, it just, I've never brought it up. Cause I'm like, I know it was a long time ago, but so it was a long time ago and it's like, I, here's what you have to understand. Glee came out when I was in starting middle school and ended when I was ending high school. So like Glee is my adolescence, like in a very real way.
[1:41:19] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:41:22] Andrew: Also was reflecting my adolescence back to me as like a competitive theater kid. Like the way that all of my friends and I were all friends, but then we were also like trying out against each other and those sorts of things. "I Want to Hold Your Hand" hit me at a time where now we're back to Bert Hummel. Like I had just experienced my dad having a heart attack when I was in seventh grade. And I like literally in that I'd never had that where that was the first time I'd experienced a piece of media. I was watching like lining up with my real life in a way that was like, that's why when people are like, why do you love Glee? I'm like, I understand it is not objectively the best television show out there in the world, but the timing and like the impact on going through the same things I was going through.
[1:42:10] Alyssa: I'm glad.
[1:42:11] Andrew: Yeah, exactly. We caught each other at the right time.
[1:42:12] Alyssa: Yes.
[1:42:13] Andrew: Yeah. That's the thing. Cause if you notice there, there's a lot of people that come on this podcast that are like similar age, like a similar age.
[1:42:20] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:42:21] Andrew: Right. Like I'm 31, Andrew's 30. It's very like, you know, great new content can come out now, but I will never be an adolescent sponge again. So like nothing's ever going to lock in there like this. Very, very fortunate. We need to, we need to take a moment to appreciate that.
[1:42:37] Alyssa: Yes.
[1:42:38] Andrew: And on that note, Santina singing that song after she graduated is, is a little crazy, but it's fine.
[1:42:46] Alyssa: It's okay.
[1:42:47] Andrew: It doesn't matter. I know it's for the, it's for the theater of it. It's it's okay. I just needed to bring it up. My soul just needed to state that fact.
[1:43:00] Alyssa: Um, what else do we have to say about the song at hand? Anything else?
[1:43:05] Andrew: I mean, it's, it's just, it's beautiful. I don't know. A lot of people in the chat were like shirtless Brody. Okay.
[1:43:11] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:43:12] Andrew: He was there.
[1:43:13] Alyssa: He was there.
[1:43:14] Andrew: Okay. That was a part of the number for sure.
[1:43:17] Alyssa: He was, he was surely there. I do want to say that what comes up when I think about this song is that I was like such, and like, I had such a bad attitude when I was in high school that like, I remember listening to this song in the car with my mom and my mom was simply just trying to make conversation with me and was like, Oh, like who's the original artists of this song is like, is she was like, is it Adele? Because it does sound like an adult song. Let's be real. And I was like, no, it's not Adele. And then she was like, all right, actually, we need to actually unpack. You can't talk to me like that. Like, no, you have the worst attitude. And I'm like, that's stuck with me for so long that it's like actually she put together some context that was there that it's like this Loki does sound like it could be written by songstress Adele.
[1:44:15] Andrew: Um, but like that.
[1:44:17] Alyssa: Yes.
[1:44:18] Andrew: That's very jazzy.
[1:44:21] Alyssa: Right. That it's like, wait, there were legs to that thought, but I was just a little twerp.
[1:44:27] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:44:28] Alyssa: I had a similar experience with my mom, only kind of opposite where I, I showed her, um, oh, what's it's not "Beauty School Dropout." It's the other Glee song, ugly song that Blaine sings. Is that "Hopelessly Devoted to You"?
[1:44:41] Andrew: "Hopelessly Devoted."
[1:44:42] Alyssa: Right. So I played it in the car and I was like, listen to this version of it. And my mom Glee, sorry, um, Greece. Sorry. I was like, I couldn't remember the actual name for a second. What is the actual, what is the, what is the actual thing? Okay. Grease is her favorite musical. Like it was like her high school thing. So I was like, listen to this version. It's so cool. It's so good. It's sung by, it's sung by a guy instead. And it makes the, it changes the vibe of the song a lot, whatever. And she was like, honestly, I can't listen to this. It doesn't, it's not hitting the same way for me. And I remember being like, oh, oh no. How could you? This is, this is Aaron Gray. And I was like, similar, like 19. I actually, it was on my way to the college program. That's really funny. So I don't know. Being a snotty kid about Glee is a universal experience.
[1:45:30] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:45:31] Andrew: But it's like, I, I know, I know all because of this show.
[1:45:36] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:45:37] Andrew: I understand. You don't understand mom. Are we ready to see what the final song of this episode and what is against "There Are Worse Things I Could Do"?
[1:45:42] Alyssa: We're ready.
[1:45:44] Andrew: And I like this because this is a song that I would vote through against some, and that I wouldn't vote through against others. Like, I like that. I'm not sold 100% either way going into the second.
[1:45:55] Alyssa: So this is really interesting Calloway because all right, for a number of reasons.
[1:46:00] Andrew: Is it mine? I'll cry.
[1:46:01] Alyssa: It is not, but it is another season four song.
[1:46:04] Andrew: Okay.
[1:46:05] Alyssa: You mentioned your favorite character on this show, which is—
[1:46:08] Andrew: Are we getting Sue?
[1:46:13] Alyssa: Are we getting Sue on the clock?
[1:46:14] Andrew: We're getting Sue. And I think that you know what song it is.
[1:46:17] Alyssa: Oh my God. Oh, it's like very topical for so many reasons. And then also—
[1:46:21] Andrew: Are we going to do Nicki Minaj discourse today?
[1:46:25] Alyssa: Oh no.
[1:46:26] Andrew: Oh, we maybe going into Nicki Minaj discourse because of course the song at hand is—
[1:46:33] Alyssa: It's Blaine v. Sue.
[1:46:35] Andrew: Oh my God.
[1:46:37] Alyssa: "I Still Believe" / "Super Bass."
[1:46:39] Andrew: And then also we literally just had a song from this episode.
[1:46:46] Alyssa: That's so true.
[1:46:49] Andrew: This is so fun to watch.
[1:46:53] Alyssa: That did light up in a way that I don't think I was expecting. I really had a fun time.
[1:47:00] Andrew: Calloway, do you want to start the discourse here?
[1:47:03] Alyssa: I have no idea what I'm voting for, but we can talk about this.
[1:47:05] Andrew: We can talk about this song on its own merits.
[1:47:09] Alyssa: Yes.
[1:47:11] Andrew: I just don't think that we make them like Jane Lynch anymore.
[1:47:17] Alyssa: I was thinking about this with the passing of Catherine O'Hara, like this, like the way that she is so much more versatile than like any role she's ever been in gives her credit for. I just think it's so impressive. And like how kind and like open-hearted she is, is obsessed with Jane Lynch.
[1:47:40] Alyssa: This song has always been confusing to me because, and this is probably a popular opinion, like I would much rather we had gone full in the Vogue direction and like just let Sue have a like standalone capsule of doing whatever Sue crazy shit is going to be. Why is Blaine there? And maybe Alyssa, you can speak to this as a Blaineologist. This is your field. Like what is Blaine adding to this? And I'm not a Blaine hater, but like this is not Blaine at his best. I think we could all agree it's pretty mid Blaine. And like I wish that we could, especially for the sake of blacketing, I wish we could separate the two because to me, we're diluting the impact of Sue as Nicki Minaj with whatever the hell Blaine is up to.
[1:48:39] Alyssa: Andrew, I'm going to let you take this.
[1:48:40] Andrew: I do have a response though. You go.
[1:48:41] Alyssa: To me it's contrast. It's such a large contrast and it makes Sue's part better and arguably to me it makes Blaine's part better somehow because, okay, I wish there was actually a full version of "I Still Believe." I think he sounds gorgeous on those high notes.
[1:48:58] Andrew: I think so too.
[1:49:01] Alyssa: He sounds really good on this. He's never sounded bad. There's no Darren Criss sounding bad on Glee. This is not an issue. Someone's going to be like, someone's going to pull up a, wait, Alyssa, what is the worst Blaine vocal?
[1:49:15] Andrew: I don't know.
[1:49:17] Alyssa: To me, like "Last Friday Night" isn't like my favorite. I don't think there are bad Blaine vocals. I think there are songs that are just filler that they were like Darren Criss. They don't fit his voice as well. That's the thing. I love Darren's voice, but there are some songs that don't fit his voice as well, I guess. But I do think that this one fits his voice quite well. I love his fit. I felt like I was matching him today.
[1:49:44] Andrew: Audio medium.
[1:49:45] Alyssa: I'm also wearing red and black and white. Very cute.
[1:49:49] Andrew: I love his silly little Disney Channel dance at the beginning.
[1:49:54] Alyssa: Oh, he's doing it.
[1:49:55] Andrew: Yes. He's really doing it. And I love how he just gives up at the end. There's something to that where he's just like, fuck this. That just really gets me.
[1:50:07] Alyssa: Yeah, I really love the contrast between the characters here. But I'm like, I think that, I don't know if I would actually like, I would like to see it, of course, a Jane Lynch full "Super Bass." I don't even know, like a music video recreation a la "Vogue." I think it would be very, very fun. But I think that it's like, Blaine plays the part of the straight man in this. That it's like, oh my God, this insane thing is happening at me. And I don't even know how to even respond. I was just here to sing my part of the song, this Mariah Carey track. And suddenly I'm being attacked by the Barb's, the Barb Cheerios.
[1:50:52] Andrew: So, I don't know. I really, really love this. Also, this is much harder competition than I thought it would be. I want to shout out Jake saying that yes, it was based on the Mariah Carey Nicki Minaj feud going on on American Idol at the time.
[1:51:07] Alyssa: Yes.
[1:51:09] Andrew: Like, immediately after, yeah.
[1:51:12] Alyssa: I was watching American Idol at the time, at the same time. And I was like, wow.
[1:51:17] Andrew: They did that.
[1:51:18] Alyssa: They do do that all the time.
[1:51:20] Andrew: They really went at it on American Idol.
[1:51:22] Alyssa: They did.
[1:51:23] Andrew: Oh yeah, oh yeah. No, that was rough. Actually, that's a good in-context reason why Blaine is there, doing Mariah Carey. And I'm also like, I don't know. I don't know how much we want to get into Nicki Minaj discourse. But also, I think, part of me was like, oh no. I hope that Nicki Minaj doesn't hurt this.
[1:51:46] Alyssa: Does this hurt this song, yeah.
[1:51:48] Andrew: But I think, in a way, I think this uplifts this version. That it's like, okay, well, we have Jane Lynch's version. We have Alex Newell's version of "Starships." We have "Fly." "I Believe I Can Fly," which now, two canceled artists on the track. Crazy. But, yeah. No, I'm glad that we have it. I agree that I think that Jane Lynch is strong enough that this stands on its own.
[1:52:18] Alyssa: Oh yeah.
[1:52:19] Andrew: I'm glad that we have it. The fact that we pulled this today, I think, is interesting. Whatever way I vote, I am not including Nicki Minaj's current issues with my voting. And I also want to point out, I don't think it's about how she sounds on the track. I think it's just that it's funny as hell. That it's so freaking funny.
[1:52:40] Alyssa: Yeah, it's great.
[1:52:41] Andrew: It's cool. It's all of it together. And this is another song.
[1:52:48] Alyssa: Exactly.
[1:52:50] Andrew: It's about the whole package. A lot of the time. But I will say, this is another song that is kind of like, I like it more because of this podcast. It was on my radar a little bit prior to this podcast. But, I don't know. This podcast, plus, it did have a resurgence on its own, I think. Two years ago or something.
[1:53:11] Alyssa: Okay, wait. Actually, Calloway, this song lost in round one against "One Less Spell To Answer," "House Is Not A Home."
[1:53:20] Andrew: Wait. Did we talk about this? Or did Jake and I?
[1:53:25] Alyssa: Jake and I talked about this in the last competition. Right?
[1:53:27] Andrew: Yes. Yes.
[1:53:29] Alyssa: Yes.
[1:53:30] Andrew: And then it was voted back. It was in the Noah Guthrie-Marshall Williams episode in round two. And I forget what it was against. I'm glad they understood it. I'm glad they got it. That's another song that's like, oh, the cast could not get it. It's possible.
[1:54:00] Alyssa: Sure.
[1:54:01] Andrew: Yeah. Wait, let me look up what it was against. I'm curious.
[1:54:03] Alyssa: Was it a real stinker?
[1:54:03] Alyssa: Oh.
[1:54:04] Andrew: I don't know. It was "Footloose."
[1:54:04] Andrew: Oh. See, I would have absolutely sent it over "Footloose." But you would have tripped me up in that first round. I do have two short things to share. I know that Amelia Glackett is the analytic queen of my life. This is a big song for her. So I need to shout out, shout out, shout out Amelia. And then I also need to shout out. I think Lauren Potter didn't know that she stepped in this a few days ago. I think Baby Girl has a social media manager where she's posting a lot of stuff now. And one thing that she posted was her in costume in this episode as a Nicki Minaj fan. And I'm like, oh, girl, you are choosing the wrong week to kind of do anything Nicki Minaj related.
[1:54:55] Andrew: Yeah, I know.
[1:54:56] Alyssa: Yeah. Maybe let's step out of this. Anyway, I know she didn't do it on purpose. But anyway.
[1:55:03] Andrew: I know. That's so fair. Are you ready to vote? Do we have any final things to say?
[1:55:08] Alyssa: I do think I know my vote.
[1:55:11] Andrew: I do think I know my vote, which is—
[1:55:15] Alyssa: But this competition could—
[1:55:17] Andrew: This is a tighter competition than I ever imagined, like stepping in. And here we are.
[1:55:23] Alyssa: I can't go first.
[1:55:25] Andrew: No, I don't. I actually don't know.
[1:55:27] Alyssa: Oh my God.
[1:55:29] Andrew: I know. I know. And it goes against like what on paper I probably would have assumed I would vote. However, I will be voting for "There Are Worse Things I Could Do," even though Sue is my favorite character on Glee. I do not think that this, this is what I was saying about the issue with the entire premise of Glackett being musical number only. Like, we are never going to get Sue at her best. So now I'm thinking we're going into round four. What really deserves to be here? I do understand that like Sue will not fare excellently going forward. And that's fine. I'll make my own Glock about seats.
[1:56:15] Alyssa: Well, there we go.
[1:56:17] Andrew: But I do think that quintessential good Glee gets harder and harder to find. The further we venture into seasons four, five and six in the way that we talked about with "There Are Worse Things I Can Do" representing multiple storylines in one piece, sort of combining worlds efficiently and in a way that adds to the emotion instead of just being like the kids in New York are singing this. And the kids in McKinley are singing. They just happen to be singing at the same time.
[1:56:49] Alyssa: Yeah.
[1:56:50] Andrew: Yeah. I think that it is one of the like if you were to divide Glee in half, it's like maybe one of the standouts of the second half of Glee as a whole that like does that, you know, in a way that is that really works. It doesn't just like, oh, I like the song where it's like, no, no, no. That really works from like if I were a breaking down the scene as a film director or like a theater director, like I get it. We talked about it's assigned each line for a reason. Like, I love that little machination of it. And as fun and as like undeniably life giving as Sue doing that is. I, it is, it is one note and I find the other complex.
[1:57:06] Alyssa: Hmm.
[1:57:07] Andrew: Oh, that was good. Very beautifully put. I think that made my vote solidify. Don't listen to me.
[1:57:44] Alyssa: Oh my God. No, no, no. Stan.
[1:57:47] Andrew: Oh yeah. Do not let me sway you.
[1:57:50] Alyssa: No. So I was back and forth because I was like, Blaine's my favorite and I've never gotten a song with Blaine in it. Now in until now. But similarly, this is not his absolute best showing. This is purposely like specifically this one is not his best showing like story wise. And even though I like my eyes light up when I when I see that guy, I agree. I'm also I also in I'm in theater. I did a play last week myself. It just feels really good to see Glee doing that, like masterful storytelling that it does. So for that reason, I'm also going to be voting for "There Are Worse Things."
[1:58:33] Andrew: Perfect. And I love when this happens where it's like I actually can't be accused of being the bad guy because I can't do anything. I will. I know that Eduardo is saying, Andrew, don't piss me off. It's like, what could I possibly do now that would piss anybody off? It's "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" was already going through. I will put maybe I'll piss you off by saying this. A pity vote for "I Still Believe / Super Bass." I think that it's just like we need to give it a little kiss on the forehead as we like send it to hell. You know what I mean?
[1:59:08] Alyssa: Absolutely. Absolutely.
[1:59:10] Andrew: Yeah, it's OK. It'll be OK. Andrew, at what point are they going to stop being pity votes like round six, round seven, round eight? There's going to be no pity vote to be spoken of.
[1:59:25] Alyssa: That's true.
[1:59:27] Andrew: But this one feels like such like ultimate ultimately that I'm like, I don't know.
[2:01:00] Andrew: And also Glee, which I think a lot of our listeners will really appreciate because they are big fans of the hit Fox show.
[2:01:19] Alyssa: It's true.
[2:01:20] Andrew: I would think so.
[2:01:22] Alyssa: Yeah.
[2:01:23] Andrew: If you listen to this for over two hours now, I would hope that you...
[2:01:27] Alyssa: If you hear it two hours and 15 minutes in, then yeah.
[2:01:30] Andrew: Yes. I'm so excited to be here and to have been prompted to remember that Patreon exists because I do feel like I've been a Spotify-only girl for some time, but now I'm like, I'm back in.
[2:01:41] Alyssa: Back in it.
[2:01:43] Andrew: Oh, and you got to get to those early release episodes.
[2:01:44] Alyssa: I try to get them done by Friday for a reason.
[2:01:48] Andrew: So hey.
[2:01:49] Alyssa: Okay.
[2:01:50] Andrew: They're my favorite.
[2:01:51] Alyssa: We can listen.
[2:01:52] Andrew: Thank you very much.
[2:01:53] Alyssa: Thank you.
[2:01:54] Andrew: Thank you so much. I can't wait for our next conversation.
[2:01:56] Alyssa: Bye.
[2:01:57] Andrew: Bye.
[2:01:58] Alyssa: Bye.
[2:01:59] Andrew: And just as a reminder for everybody that if you would like to be one of the glisteners on monthly livestream episodes, that is possible at patreon.com slash GleekTheWeekPod.
[2:02:13] Alyssa: And it's always a good time, chat going crazy.
[2:02:16] Andrew: And yeah, in recap for this episode, Borderline Open Your Heart, I had to remind myself, did it win or lose?
[2:02:24] Alyssa: It did win.
[2:02:27] Andrew: We have opened up the gates to heaven, or open up the gates to Rome. Open your heart to...
[2:02:32] Alyssa: Yeah, we've...
[2:02:33] Andrew: Yeah. We've gone past the borderline.
[2:02:37] Alyssa: The bitch will never come back.
[2:02:40] Andrew: Dress you down to hell.
[2:02:41] Alyssa: Maybe?
[2:02:42] Andrew: Bitch is going to hell.
[2:02:43] Alyssa: Yeah.
[2:02:44] Andrew: There you go. Dress you down to hell.
[2:02:46] Alyssa: Gone. Dress you down to hell.
[2:02:48] Andrew: There are worse things I could do.
[2:02:49] Alyssa: There are worse things that you could do.
[2:02:50] Andrew: Oh, God.
[2:02:51] Alyssa: I feel like I'm going to die.
[2:02:52] Andrew: What are you saying?
[2:03:00] Alyssa: There are worse things...
[2:03:01] Andrew: Oh, my God.
[2:03:02] Alyssa: Why can't I like...
[2:03:03] Andrew: Oh, God. We're over two hours at this point.
[2:03:06] Alyssa: I know.
[2:03:07] Andrew: My brain is mushing.
[2:03:08] Alyssa: There are worse things...
[2:03:09] Andrew: I feel like there's a very...
[2:03:10] Alyssa: The worst thing you could do is not go to round four.
[2:03:13] Andrew: There we go. Thank you, Elijah.
[2:03:15] Alyssa: There we go, Elijah. Thank you very much.
[2:03:18] Andrew: I still believe that Super Bass is in hell.
[2:03:23] Alyssa: Stupid.
[2:03:24] Andrew: It's at the base of hell.
[2:03:26] Alyssa: It's reached the base of hell.
[2:03:27] Andrew: Thank you.
[2:03:28] Alyssa: The base.
[2:03:29] Andrew: The base.
[2:03:30] Alyssa: It's gone. We're ending on a great note.
[2:03:35] Andrew: Alyssa, thank you so much for joining me this month. Would you like to leave the Gleeks with any call to actions?
[2:03:44] Alyssa: Just follow my art account at groogie draws.
[2:03:48] Andrew: Groogie Draws.
[2:03:49] Alyssa: A great follow. I've started making stupid little reels of the audio from this podcast, and those are really fun.
[2:03:57] Andrew: I can't wait.
[2:03:59] Alyssa: But also, take your time.
[2:04:06] Andrew: Thank you.
[2:04:07] Alyssa: I'm hoping for round four. That's my hope, is if I can make it perfectly fine. But we'll see.
[2:04:14] Andrew: But yeah.
[2:04:15] Alyssa: Oh, also, follow my puppet improv troupe called Puppet Bucket.
[2:04:23] Andrew: We need to follow Puppet Bucket.
[2:04:26] Alyssa: We do stupid puppet content. If you really like Puppet Master, follow us.
[2:04:33] Andrew: This is the improv group for you.
[2:04:37] Alyssa: Muppet Show's coming out next week. We are really on it.
[2:04:40] Andrew: Wow. Obsessed.
[2:04:41] Alyssa: Thank you so much.
[2:04:43] Andrew: Thank you. I knew it was going to be really special.
[2:04:45] Alyssa: Thank you. And indeed, this episode really was. I finally got Blaine, and I had to vote him away.
[2:04:51] Andrew: Yeah.
[2:04:52] Alyssa: Blaine was like, hey, Alyssa, I'm so glad that we finally got to meet. And then you were like, actually, I don't want anything to do with you.
[2:04:58] Andrew: I'm going to be thinking about that tonight.
[2:05:00] Alyssa: I'm going to be like...
[2:05:01] Andrew: Blaine's like, wait. Wait a minute.
[2:05:03] Alyssa: Wait.
[2:05:04] Andrew: Okay. So coming up on the Glocket, we have a few special guests. If you're a patron, you know who they are.
[2:05:15] Alyssa: And everyone just join me in my prayer circle for Liam Ashawn the podcast.
[2:05:22] Andrew: And that would be really, really special if you kind of did a rain dance so that she gets to Glocket one day.
[2:05:28] Alyssa: Thank you so much. And see you next week.
[2:05:30] Andrew: Okay. Bye.
[2:05:31] Alyssa: Bye.
[2:05:32] Andrew: It's Gleek.
