[0:00] Andrew: We've got a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.
[0:09] Andrew: There's no rhyme or reason to it, so don't get mad at me.
[0:18] Andrew: Gleek it by Gleek it, we'll rank everyone to see which song will move closer to spot number one.
[0:26] Andrew: Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week. It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
[0:35] Andrew: Nervous and very, very excited. Um, wow. Here we are. Round 2 Finale. And boy, oh boy, do we have an episode for y'all. A live stream episode featuring some all-star Gleeks you might have heard of. Is that you, Connor? What was that? I don't know what that was. It wasn't me.
[0:59] Andrew: Guys, what was that? Guys, what was that? I swear, guys, it wasn't me. What was that?
[1:07] Andrew: Um, okay, well, you already heard their damn voices. I'm joined by, um, Claudia. How are you?
[1:14] Claudia: Hi, I'm so good. I'm so excited to be here. And I got my very important shirt.
[1:20] Andrew: I know, we're all really repping. Oh my god, where did you get that, Claudia?
[1:24] Andrew: What is that jazz music? Guys, we're gonna need you to mute. I love you all.
[1:28] Andrew: Oh, wait. Is that me? That's not me. I found the culprit.
[1:35] Andrew: Um, okay, yeah. People keep saying that it's you farting, Connor.
[1:40] Connor Burke: Basically. I'm also joined by, um, fellow Gleek, fellow, uh, Glee shirt wearer, Connor Burke. How are you?
[1:46] Connor Burke: Hey, everyone. I'm so well. I don't know if anyone can see my shirt.
[1:52] Connor Burke: Wait. I only know the Glee version, which I was going to wear my Gleek of the Week, obviously, merch, but that's a little bit stinky. And I would not want to subject that.
[2:03] Andrew: Everyone arrives stinky or was stinkiness thrust upon them?
[2:07] Connor Burke: Stinkiness was thrust upon it. However, it did take approximately 19 years to get here, which is fine. We dealt with it in the end. But it was worth every cent. I will say that.
[2:21] Andrew: Oh, I'm so glad. I am wearing-
[2:22] Connor Burke: A new merch. Hello.
[2:24] Connor Burke: New merch alert. New merch plug. I am wearing a custom made by Allison Dodge from the 2021 collection of- there was only two made- just as Gleek of the Week. And it's very comfortable, I have to say. And then Claudia, this is a famous shirt at this point. So please-
[2:43] Claudia: I would hope so.
[2:44] Claudia: Audio Medium, what are you wearing?
[2:46] Claudia: Audio Medium. I got my Unholy Trinity shirt that my friend Zoe gave me for my 22nd birthday.
[2:53] Claudia: It's so beautiful.
[2:53] Claudia: And we got a really beautiful trip ditch of some collage elements we got on top.
[2:59] Andrew: I love it.
[3:00] Claudia: Be a warrior like Quinn, then be brave like Santana and be optimistic like Brittany, of course, the key characteristics of these beautiful, beautiful girls.
[3:08] Andrew: It's so good.
[3:09] Claudia: It's my headcanon that that comes from the Diana Agron Updates merch store.
[3:14] Andrew: Yes. Yeah, that's actually my friend Zoe is her.
[3:17] Claudia: She would.
[3:18] Claudia: Andrew, I know you told me about Diana Agron Updates interview with Evan a couple of weeks ago or months ago. But I only just read it today. And it is-
[3:29] Claudia: It's really amazing.
[3:31] Claudia: Everyone needs to stop what they're doing and read that interview with Diana Agron Updates because I am obsessed with her. The way that she wants to be anonymous.
[3:40] Claudia: She refers to herself as C, because she wants to keep it a mystery.
[3:45] Connor Burke: It's me. It's Connor. It's us.
[3:47] Connor Burke: We. It's us. But truly, truly rest in peace.
[3:53] Claudia: I was reading some of her old tweets as well.
[3:56] Claudia: And she tweeted, she tweeted, no idea if Shiva Baby is still eligible for the 2022 Oscars.
[4:02] Connor Burke: Yes.
[4:02] Claudia: We're a Diana Agron Updates account. We've never thought of the Oscars before.
[4:07] Connor Burke: We've never thought of the Oscars before. It's really, really great.
[4:12] Claudia: I really love that interview that Diana Agron Updates did with Evan Ross Katz.
[4:18] Claudia: It just like is very validating to me that it's like of all the stan accounts, that it's like there are so many stan accounts for like name celebrity updates.
[4:29] Claudia: And I'm like, it's so validating that it's Glee star Diana Agron that really gets the extra spotlight.
[4:37] Connor Burke: So didn't he ask her? He asked her like,
[4:41] Connor Burke: oh, is Diana Agron one of the best actresses of her generation?
[4:46] Connor Burke: And she was like, best actress from Glee, hands down.
[4:49] Claudia: No hesitation.
[4:52] Claudia: She could be one of the best actors of her generation if she worked.
[4:56] Connor Burke: Yeah.
[4:58] Connor Burke: Maybe if she picked up Robert's calls, then we would have been having a different.
[5:04] Connor Burke: I could quite literally talk about Diana Agron Updates and just Diana Agron generally forever.
[5:10] Andrew: But however, this is a very special episode.
[5:12] Andrew: And I really would love to hear the answer to two questions.
[5:18] Andrew: There's the age old question that's a little stinky at this point, because we've really worn it so many times.
[5:26] Andrew: That is, of course, what Glackett hot takes do you have?
[5:29] Andrew: And then a surprise question coming out after.
[5:33] Andrew: Claudia, let's start with you.
[5:34] Claudia: Do you have any opinions on Glackett as it stands right now?
[5:38] Claudia: I think I do.
[5:41] Claudia: I keep making new entries in my notes of things that just say like Gleek at the top.
[5:46] Claudia: So I think I might have lost a couple.
[5:48] Claudia: But I was just listening to the most recent Pen Glultimate episode even of round two, season two of Gleek of the Week podcast.
[5:59] Claudia: With Allison and Lena. Yes.
[6:00] Claudia: With Allison and Lena. It was wonderful.
[6:01] Claudia: I love those beautiful girls.
[6:02] Claudia: And I feel like I had a lot of opinions on all of the songs.
[6:07] Claudia: I'm going to go ahead and say rest in peace to My Love is Your Love.
[6:10] Claudia: Big, big Whitney fan, as I think I've said before.
[6:14] Claudia: But I almost feel like it's not a Glee song.
[6:18] Claudia: I stream so, so much.
[6:21] Claudia: And frankly, the Kevin ad-libs do take me out a little bit.
[6:25] Claudia: The fact that he is doing the baby Bobbi Kristina ad-libs.
[6:29] Connor Burke: Yes.
[6:29] Claudia: And also like, yeah, he like is really trying to vocalize it.
[6:32] Claudia: Like, sing mommy.
[6:34] Connor Burke: Oh, okay.
[6:36] Claudia: Okay, eat it up, Claudia.
[6:37] Claudia: Yeah, I was doing something there.
[6:40] Andrew: Would you rather Kevin McHale do an impression of baby Bobbi Kristina instead?
[6:45] Claudia: I'd rather get Beth on the track.
[6:47] Claudia: Like, let's get a real life baby.
[6:49] Claudia: Let's get a real life baby.
[6:51] Claudia: You know, like, I think it's the right thing to do.
[6:54] Claudia: We got, we know a baby.
[6:55] Claudia: Let's bring her out.
[6:56] Connor Burke: We know one.
[6:57] Claudia: Canonically, there is a baby amongst us.
[7:00] Claudia: And then I was just, okay, I guess, continuing.
[7:04] Claudia: I'm sorry, Kevin.
[7:05] Claudia: I'm sorry that all of those Artolos are out.
[7:09] Claudia: But he has one.
[7:11] Claudia: I know, but the ones from two episodes ago, I guess.
[7:13] Claudia: Sorry, I kind of jumped a step in my brain.
[7:15] Claudia: Um, maybe this time came and she did not come to play.
[7:19] Claudia: So it's just like, maybe this time came out and was like, oh, I heard that we're getting rid of Artolos.
[7:24] Claudia: Yes, I heard he gets one.
[7:25] Claudia: I heard he gets one.
[7:26] Claudia: So let me wrap this up.
[7:29] Claudia: So that was that.
[7:31] Claudia: And then I also just generally kind of agreed with the discourse about these various covers that are kind of like, just really good.
[7:36] Claudia: I don't know, like straight covers of great songs.
[7:41] Claudia: I don't know, I was gonna say, obviously, maybe it's not obvious, but I'm also a huge Amy Winehouse fan.
[7:51] Claudia: And so the back to back performance by Naya is like very beautiful and special, but also like not one that sticks in my memory.
[7:59] Claudia: I remember I was doing my like Santolo ranking, and I like really didn't know where to put it because it's not by any means a bad cover or a bad performance or a bad song, but just like doesn't really stick with you the way that oh, some of these other beautiful girls do.
[8:16] Claudia: Audio medium.
[8:17] Claudia: I made a beautiful Zoom background of Nutbush city limits with the words you're gay on it.
[8:24] Claudia: And that was kind of my notes.
[8:26] Claudia: Verbatim is Nutbush makes me vomit and die.
[8:29] Claudia: Holy fuck.
[8:30] Claudia: Used to think Songbird was my number one Santolo, but maybe not like no one is doing it like her.
[8:37] Claudia: And I showed this performance to my girlfriend, like really early on when we were dating, and I think I really scared her.
[8:41] Claudia: I don't know why.
[8:42] Claudia: You're gonna need to know this.
[8:44] Claudia: I'm like, you're gonna need this reference point quick.
[8:47] Claudia: Because this is the kind of thing I'm into.
[8:49] Andrew: Wait, so it did it not land for her?
[8:51] Claudia: No, it did.
[8:52] Claudia: She thought it was awesome.
[8:53] Claudia: I think so.
[8:54] Connor Burke: Okay.
[8:55] Claudia: She thought it was awesome.
[8:56] Claudia: She did.
[8:57] Claudia: Yeah, I think that's.
[8:59] Claudia: Oh, and I really wanted to say that I really wish we did have an Amy tribute episode.
[9:06] Claudia: We were you had mentioned.
[9:08] Andrew: I know we just we needed a little bit more out of that artist on the HitFox show Glee.
[9:15] Claudia: We were talking about what Claudia and I hang out IRL reveal when we went to go see Noah Guthrie the other night.
[9:21] Claudia: And we were talking about like, yeah, these these straight covers that it is kind of odd that we get three in a row back to black, try a little tenderness.
[9:32] Claudia: And my man that are so intrinsically like, okay, you're covering this.
[9:37] Claudia: You're covering the damn song.
[9:38] Claudia: I've been thinking about that so much since that conversation with Lena and Allison.
[9:43] Andrew: Yeah, it's really interesting.
[9:44] Claudia: I'm sorry, I'm getting really scared.
[9:47] Claudia: They're talking about me in the chat.
[9:48] Andrew: I'm scared.
[9:48] Claudia: Wait, what are they saying about you?
[9:50] Connor Burke: Eduardo said watching Claudia like a hawk. She better be careful.
[9:57] Claudia: You saw my reaction to this message, which is true, because I got really scared.
[10:00] Andrew: I love you, Eduardo.
[10:02] Andrew: Wait, before we get to O'Connor boy, do you have anything that you want to say about Mr.
[10:09] Connor Burke: Mr. Noah Guthrie the other evening?
[10:11] Connor Burke: Yeah, I had such a lovely time with my friend Andrew in real life.
[10:15] Andrew: How do you feel holding a gun to her?
[10:17] Connor Burke: Yeah, totally.
[10:18] Connor Burke: I feel really safe and normal.
[10:20] Connor Burke: It was really, really good.
[10:22] Connor Burke: It was kind of like a weird setup.
[10:24] Connor Burke: Because it was like in a restaurant stage.
[10:28] Connor Burke: Unfortunately, Noah Guthrie, you are the most talented man that I could ever think of.
[10:36] Connor Burke: You attract kind of the weirdest people.
[10:38] Andrew: Oh my God.
[10:40] Connor Burke: Oh my God.
[10:40] Connor Burke: Elaborate on that.
[10:42] Connor Burke: Oh my God.
[10:43] Connor Burke: If you were if you're listening to this, and you happen to be there.
[10:47] Andrew: But they would have come up to you, Andrew.
[10:49] Connor Burke: Maybe.
[10:51] Connor Burke: But they were like, they were kind of like, there were a few people that were being horny.
[10:57] Connor Burke: Horny front row of the Noah Guthrie show.
[11:02] Connor Burke: No, but like, okay, so picture this audio medium.
[11:05] Connor Burke: We're in a restaurant.
[11:07] Connor Burke: I can't stress this enough.
[11:08] Connor Burke: It was a restaurant with it was a restaurant.
[11:11] Connor Burke: What was it?
[11:12] Connor Burke: Wait, what was it called?
[11:12] Connor Burke: I've been there before.
[11:13] Connor Burke: What was groove?
[11:14] Connor Burke: It was called groove, which is like a really weak, like very confusing.
[11:17] Connor Burke: Like, why is it like it is a music venue?
[11:20] Connor Burke: Like, obviously, they have shows all the time.
[11:22] Connor Burke: But it's set up with like, a dozen tables.
[11:26] Connor Burke: That was the same setup that when Elias and I went to go see Leigh Michelle in Boston, that it was like a dinner and stage.
[11:33] Andrew: And Cafe Carlyle, frankly.
[11:38] Connor Burke: Oh, and Cafe Carlyle with Lady Di.
[11:40] Andrew: Yeah.
[11:41] Connor Burke: Everyone's just into like dinner and a show, I guess.
[11:44] Connor Burke: But there were the couple that was so...
[11:49] Connor Burke: Literally one foot away from him.
[11:51] Connor Burke: One foot away.
[11:52] Connor Burke: You can get the table right in front of Noah Guthrie singing.
[11:56] Connor Burke: And they were just being actively horned.
[12:02] Connor Burke: Just like a mere six inches away from Noah Guthrie, which, bold.
[12:08] Connor Burke: I don't know, it's really uncomfortable, but it's kind of fucking iconic at the same time.
[12:12] Connor Burke: Like, I don't even know.
[12:14] Connor Burke: They were like, they were also supporting a really handsome age gap.
[12:19] Claudia: A handsome age gap is hilarious.
[12:23] Connor Burke: Had to be a straight couple.
[12:24] Claudia: I'm so sorry, guys.
[12:25] Claudia: I would never say this kind of thing.
[12:27] Connor Burke: Oh no, we would never say this about a gay couple.
[12:27] Connor Burke: Because obviously there was a picture.
[12:29] Connor Burke: No, they can do whatever they want.
[12:29] Connor Burke: Oh, oh, thank you for bringing that up.
[12:31] Connor Burke: Yeah, it was just really bizarre.
[12:31] Connor Burke: Because-
[12:31] Connor Burke: You're so welcome.
[12:32] Connor Burke: Mel Guthrie, continuously being not just talented, but also maybe kindest man that I'll ever know in my life.
[12:33] Connor Burke: And there was like one moment.
[12:35] Andrew: Wait, but what was the conversation?
[12:39] Connor Burke: So kind.
[12:42] Connor Burke: Came up, he was like talking to other people and then made a beeline for me and Claudia and was like, hey, thanks for coming.
[12:49] Connor Burke: It was so cute.
[12:50] Connor Burke: Like he knew Andrew and went over and like said hi.
[12:54] Connor Burke: Went out of his way.
[12:55] Connor Burke: It was so sweet.
[12:56] Andrew: Yeah, Eduardo was saying in the chat, he is my father figure.
[13:00] Connor Burke: Yeah.
[13:00] Connor Burke: He really is.
[13:01] Connor Burke: I was considering like shouting, play father figure.
[13:04] Connor Burke: But he and-
[14:35] Andrew: Remaining Songs. What did it lose against? Human Nature, which is very valid, but I just wanted to give it a shout out. And you would have still voted for Human Nature or no?
[14:46] Guest 1: Yeah.
[14:47] Guest 1: Yeah.
[14:48] Andrew: Okay. We're not playing too many games. Also, Ripta Here Comes Santa Claus. I don't... The Nostalgia vote might have made me vote for that, honestly. That was against Lindsay Pierce's Gorgeous Girl, like it's great. And I don't know, it being like the one trio song of those gals. Crazy. Also, freaking Horny on Maine, they look so good. Are you kidding me? It's really, it's really sad. Round 2 Finale, we're getting Horny on Maine. Is there anything else? Every episode, we get worse and worse. Hornier on Maine, yeah. Hornier and hornier. I guess... I feel like I did. Oh, I'm scared about Boyz Mine. I feel pretty unpretty. I'm just not right. I'm really scared. But I'm not that scared. Oh, someone in the chat asked me about my opinions on... Wait, I don't know what that means.
I saw something about it's all coming back to me now. I am going to go ahead and I said this in the Patreon chat. Subscribe to Patreon if you haven't, everyone. I obviously have said my piece on it's all coming back to me now. She's so, so, so important to me. And I love her so much. But I can't... We can't live in a world where Boyz Mine is out Round 2. We can't do that. That's not something that I'm ready to... So, we're recording this in the middle of the night.
[15:49] Guest 1: Yeah.
[15:50] Guest 1: Yeah.
[15:51] Guest 1: Yeah.
[15:52] Guest 1: Yeah.
[15:53] Guest 1: Yeah.
[15:54] Guest 1: Yeah.
[15:55] Andrew: Well, that's all for me, as always. I'm a pro. I'm a pro. We're... You know, until... I'm a pro. I'm a pro. I'm a pro. I'm a pro. I'm a pro. I'm a pro. I'm a pro. I'm a pro. I'm a pro. So, there you go. I'm a pro. I'm a pro. So, there you go, guys. So, yeah. Boyz Mine is out Round 2. I can't... We can't live in a world where Boyz Mine is out Round 2. We can't do that. That's not something that I'm ready to... So, we were recording this in the midst of the vote that was set up in the previous episode. Crazy. All right. Well, thank you so much, Claudia. That was really special. Thank you. Thank you, Claudia. That was really beautiful. Oh, my God. Thank you guys all very much.
[16:34] Guest 2: You're welcome.
[16:35] Connor: Do you have things to share on that topic?
[16:40] Guest 1: I mean, sure.
[16:41] Connor: Sure. I'd like to hear it, if you'd mind.
[16:43] Guest 1: Okay. Right. Okay. Well, it was only two episodes ago that I was on, just FYI.
[16:52] Connor: Oh, that's right.
[16:54] Guest 1: So, last week, I need to join in with Claudia. I do need to mention, whilst you were both chatting there, I made the dreadful decision to switch over to gallery view on Zoom, and all you see is just a myriad of black squares with their camera off. That's such a power move, isn't it? Like, we can't be seen, but we are watching you. So, now I'm back at speaker view, which I have a lot more control over. I just made that switch. I was doing the scary version for the other two. It feels like when you have a callback, when you're an actor and you have a callback on Zoom for an advert, and all these corporate people are sitting there with their camera off, and you have to, like, pretend to jump up and down on a fucking pogo stick.
So, that's a lot of fun. Anyway, I need to join in with Claudia to express my commiserations for My Love Is Your Love. My Love Is Your Love is probably in my top 30 of Glee songs. I am obsessed with My Love Is Your Love. I scream it all the time. We do not have enough Ars Eide's representation in this show in general, and that's on period. Alison Alamode last week made such brilliant points about, like, how that song is kind of, like, really moving. Obviously, with the arty riffs and stuff like that, that's a different conversation. But I can't even remember what I was up against now. What was it up against? Summer Nights. Oh, Summer Nights. I was the person that was responsible for sending Summer Nights through.
Which I was, like, there are elements of Summer Nights that I really like. I think it's a lot of fun. I get that. However, I don't know, like, there's, like, I really love when Kurt's like, because he sounds like a drag. Like, I love that. I love Santana being there. I love Rachel as Patti Simcox. That makes a lot of sense. And for that to go on, for it to be Kitty in a later season, that's a different conversation. But My Love Is Your Love, I don't know, that's a sound that no one really talks about, relatively. No, I don't hear people talking about it. And I, do you feel bad? Because, like, I can't think of another competition where I was put in that exact position, where I like both. I can admit that both songs are good, but I don't really have, like, a relationship with either.
So, it is, like, unfortunate that, like, I was the deciding vote for that. Because I've learned in the past few days, since the episode's been released on Patreon, that people really do feel a type of way about My Love Is Your Love. So.
[19:28] Guest 1: Yeah.
[19:29] Connor: And would it have won the Glockett? No. But I did think that she had one more round in her. I really do. And speaking of round three, I think all of these songs go from round three onwards. Every song that gets knocked out, they should not be offended. Because they should reach a point where it's, like, it's an honour just to be nominated kind of thing.
[19:51] Andrew: Oh, I love that. Like, that's the stage that we're at in the Glockett, you know?
[19:53] Connor: Sure, yeah. Because it truly is an honour. Three rounds? Hello? Good job. That's further than I'd go if I was a song. So, there's that.
[20:00] Andrew: I don't know about that, Conor. I don't know.
[20:02] Connor: Okay. So, I was kind of fishing there, and you took it. Thank you so much.
[20:06] Andrew: Oh, okay. I only have one more, and I'm just going to say it, and I feel like this is the unpopular opinion. I would have voted for Barracuda.
[20:15] Guest 1: Oh.
[20:16] Andrew: What did I vote against? That was Keep Holding On, season five.
[20:18] Connor: Keep Holding On, season five. Oh. Now, listen. Eduardo said, mute his mic, Andrew. You know what? No, Eduardo. How about that? I think that, okay. I take your point, Andrew, with, why is Rachel Berry... Rachel Berry is the most homophobic character on the show.
[20:41] Guest 1: Okay.
[20:42] Connor: No, no, no. No. Oh, my God. You can't actually say that. I think that she's just homophobic for plot reasons. I'm low-key joking, but she's kind of homophobic in an iconic way, like in a Shirley from West Borough Baptist Church way. Like, I'm okay with that kind of homophobe. Okay. On the record. I want to see Rachel Berry do the... Do you know the West Borough Baptist Church version of... What is it? Poker Face. You'll piss off God. You'll see what he's got. 9-11. Get it. And so, that's not Rachel, though. I know, but it would be iconic.
[21:20] Andrew: Okay.
[21:23] Connor: I want to say that in the chat, we have Alison Almod, writer with, like, a word about being the most homophobic character. Most homophobic character. Yeah. Oh, yeah. That's true. No, I was obviously... I was low-key joking. Barracuda, if you forget about that entire conversation that you were having about, like, oh, this just makes me uncomfortable, I dare you to put in your earphones and listen to the mp3. The vocals are vocal-ling. It is so impressive as well that, obviously, Adam Lambert is there, but for someone like Lea Michele as a singer to be able to keep up with him on that kind of genre of song is incredibly impressive.
[22:00] Guest 1: Oh, yeah.
[22:01] Connor: I do agree with that. I think it's just completely different, and they sound amazing. So purely for that, I would have voted for it. Keep holding on to season five. I just... The original is fine with me. I'm fine with season one.
[22:15] Guest 1: Oh, you prefer the original?
[22:16] Connor: Oh, my God. Is that not the common opinion? I don't know. I said that, and I thought it was kind of a hot take, but I've come to learn that there are other people that agree with season five being superior. When you said it, I thought I agreed with you, but then I was listening to the original today, and I was like, no, this is a beautiful girl. You know, because I can see it for Loser Like Me, season two, season five. When it comes to Loser Like Me, I'm very much like, we need to have the conversation. With Keep Holding On, season one, season five, I'm like, is that even a conversation that needs to be had? I thought I'd just assumed that we were all on the same page here, but evidently not.
She's in round three. I mean, Claudia did send me a voice message today, which it took me a moment to land what song it was referencing, but of course it was the, which I feel so dumb for not immediately getting. The reason it was on my mind is because of your stupid promotional video for this very recording. Are you freaking crazy? And now I look like an idiot. Now we're all here. Now I look like I'm an idiot because he's like, what the fuck is this?
[23:27] Andrew: That's just not right.
[23:28] Connor: Okay. Yes. Sharice, Sharice, I'm sorry. I don't know how to pronounce your name, said in the chat. Cannot believe it's more boring. No, it's Charis. It's Charis. I know Charis. I know Charis. Yes, Charis. I'm so sorry, Charis. Cannot believe the more boring version of an OK song sung by Puck, bet the icon Adam Lambert. I'm so sorry. Like, no, I'm disappointed. And was that a three for three?
[23:52] Guest 1: Yeah, it was a three for three.
[23:54] Connor: It was Alison Dodge and I and I forget the name of the first week that was on that episode with us.
[24:00] Andrew: Oh, wait. That was Nicole.
[24:03] Connor: Yes. Tyler made a great point that keep holding on. Season five is too straight, too straight coded for me, which if we were to gender it, keep holding on. Season five is a he.
[24:12] Andrew: Oh, I 100 percent agree.
[24:16] Connor: Bones are seeing round three and I would not be surprised if, you know, only the first one goes through. But yeah. Do you have any further comments to make, Connor?
[24:27] Connor: That was it. I that was it. Keep holding on. Going through over Barracuda. I feel like I got progressively more upset as I unpacked it. But we can move on. Like, I feel like most people are making smart decisions. And I really respect that because, you know, guys, once you're in the hot seat, it may look easy. This might look real fun, don't it? This might look really, really fun. You guys. I got a gun to my head. But I'm OK for now. I'm OK for now. Let's see what happens. I just I know we're going to go whistle. Please, dear God, please, dear God. I wait. So do you want to do you want to manifest what of the six songs, which let's set the score of what six songs will be in this episode, whether you like it or not. Alphabetical order. We have as long as you're there. Damn it, Janet. I've had the time of my life. Whenever I call you friend whistle and will you love me tomorrow? Head over feet mashup. What are we manifesting for this competition?
[25:31] Guest 1: I'm of two minds because I I love whistle and I want to talk about her. But then I'm like, I don't like if I want whistle to go through, I would want like one of the songs that I don't care about to also go. But like, I don't want to watch something boring. So, you know, I don't know.
[25:50] Connor: I agree that they're like, what did I say? I texted you like there are three that I like, one that I don't and two that I couldn't even remember what they were. I remember one of the ones that you owe to the ones that you don't remember or you didn't remember or whenever I call you friend. And as long as you're there, I believe.
[26:08] Guest 1: Yeah, that's right.
[26:10] Connor: Yeah. So I'm not going to give us one of those because that's just funny. I know what I'm really concerned for happening is whistle being against as long as you're there because I think it's a whistle, baby. I'm sorry. I love the other four so much. I think that they're all really, really great. And I think they all deserve round three. But that would be so that would be some nasty work if as long as you're there. Versus whistle for me personally. But.
[26:42] Connor: What say you?
[26:44] Connor: I kind of I kind of want Dammit Janet. I was listening to it today in preparation. I was like, this is really fun. And because of the MP4 of it all, which I will save that conversation for when it comes up, I feel like many people don't discuss it. And I'll leave it at that. So Dammit Janet for me.
[27:05] Andrew: Okay. All righty. And then we also my additional question, which I tease is there is one final vote for round three songs voting back in on Patreon. The poll is not live yet, but it's all the there are two. OK. So this entire poll when it's released will have the three losers in this episode, as well as the two runner ups, the second and third of each of the eight votes that have happened over the course of round two, if that makes sense. And so those songs include let me scroll up in our damn chat. OK. Those songs include Love Song, When I Get You Alone, How to Be a Heartbreaker, If I Can't Have You, Misery, Run the World, Girls, I Can't Go for That, You Make My Dreams, Science Fiction Double Feature, Uninvited, Wishing and Hoping, Born This Way, Just the Way You Are, Season Two, Coldhearted and Come See About Me. And I've asked each of the six guests today.
[28:41] Guest 1: It is beautiful. Those three together, the three-part harmony, oh!
[28:47] Guest 2: It's so good.
[28:48] Guest 3: Oh my god.
[28:51] Guest 4: I can't get out of my head, what is the name of the character who is the student film director? Because she's a fucking icon. We need more of her.
[28:59] Guest 5: Oh my god.
[29:00] Guest 6: Oh, and get the hell off my grandmother's dreamscape.
[29:06] Guest 1: I don't want to be naked now.
[29:14] Guest 2: The legal note here is "Love Song" lost in the first episode of Round 2 in our premiere episode of Round 2 with Recovering Gleek, and it lost to "If I Were a Boy."
[29:24] Guest 3: That was such an unfortunate competition that I feel like it set the tone for Round 2.
[29:30] Guest 4: I think it made it look like Round 2 was going to be worse than it was. Personally, there were still some really bad competitions in Round 2, but that was really nasty.
[29:39] Guest 5: Yeah, that was bad.
[29:40] Guest 6: I really loved what Andrew was saying on this podcast a couple of weeks ago as well, where when thinking about the arc of a song, it's really beautiful to think about "Love Song" going home in the first episode of Round 2, but like coming back, but yeah, being voted back like the end of Round 2, start of Round 2, like that's really, you know, she's back this time, it's personal. So like thinking of the arc of "Love Song," and then where does she go from there?
[30:09] Guest 1: Well, I think it's so fun, you know, I know that some people have their reservations with voting songs back, which I understand, but there are certain moments that are very fun, like Claudia, in your episode with Ian, when we had "Take a Bow" versus "Jessie's Girl" again, a competition that already happened in Round 1, that I'm like, if "Love Song" comes back, then we could feasibly have a repeat of "Love Song" versus "Firework Boy," and history could change this time around.
[30:39] Guest 2: Crazy.
[30:39] Guest 3: I do want to give a little shout out as well to, just very quickly, "Uninvited." I do really love "Uninvited," however, I wish you wouldn't be getting my vote. "Uninvited" is a great song, it's a great performance. I have talked about this ad nauseum on this podcast, I think, it's kind of remarkable that Glee didn't do more Alanis, and I'm actually thinking of taking to the streets with a picket, because she lends herself so well to Glee, like that album, hello.
[31:10] Guest 4: Yeah.
[31:11] Guest 5: Like, it is—
[31:12] Guest 6: They discovered, Ryan, Ian, and Brad.
[31:15] Guest 1: Yeah, they didn't know who she was.
[31:16] Guest 2: They didn't know who she was until 2014, and they were like, oh, this is a beautiful singer.
[31:22] Guest 3: I don't—yeah, it's crazy. Like, "Ironic" was right there, you know? I know we had "Head Over Feet"—
[31:28] Guest 4: Yeah, that's right.
[31:28] Guest 5: I know we had "Head Over Feet" in a mashup.
[31:30] Guest 6: "You Oughta Know."
[31:30] Guest 1: See, Alanis and Carole King—
[31:31] Guest 2: "You Oughta Know," it's crazy that they didn't even do it.
[31:33] Guest 3: It's right there.
[31:34] Guest 4: "Jagged Little Tapestry" is a fucking brilliant episode, but like, if you're going to do a tribute episode to Alanis and Carole King, they need their own hour.
[31:42] Guest 5: Yeah, it's ridiculous.
[31:42] Guest 6: I'm grateful for it, because "Jagged Little Tapestry" turned out absolutely brilliant, but like, they need their own hour, come on. You're telling me we got two Beatles episodes?
[31:51] Guest 1: No.
[31:52] Guest 2: We only have 12 episodes left.
[31:52] Guest 3: No, get that fire exit door, I'm off. Two Beatles episodes, no way.
[32:00] Guest 4: We don't need that.
[32:00] Guest 5: Sorry. But for me, it's "Love Song." Vote with your hearts, everyone.
[32:08] Guest 6: Vote with your hearts.
[32:10] Guest 1: Which song your heart loves, which—
[32:15] Guest 2: Oh.
[32:16] Guest 3: Which, yeah, subliminal messaging in there.
[32:20] Guest 4: Vote for the song.
[32:22] Guest 5: Wait, Andrew, do you have to remain neutral on this? What's your opinion?
[32:25] Andrew: Oh, thank you for asking. Do I have to? Is anybody taking me accountable? I feel like "Love Song" as well. It's funny that I prompted it to everybody that's in this episode, this exercise of campaigning for a certain song, and like, immediately everybody was like, "Love Song, Love Song, Love Song," even though I said, like, I think that we should, it would be more fun if we all, like, chose different songs, and I quickly realized that, spoiler alert, a lot of these Gleeks like "Love Song" goes. Listen, listen, listen. I also love "Love Song," and I think it's crazy that it's not in round three automatically, but I'm gonna go for a creative and—
[33:05] Guest 1: Okay, here we go.
[33:06] Andrew: Not like other girls campaign.
[33:08] Guest 2: Not like other Gleeks.
[33:09] Andrew: Not like other Gleeks, not like other days. I'm gonna, like, just, I don't know, throw this out to you guys. I'm not seeing anyone saying this in the chat, but if I can't have you, it is representative of very, I can't remember what episode you were talking about this, of like, cute little Britannia moments that, like, don't make you want to just, like, throw up and cry. Eduardo, enough, enough of this.
[33:38] Guest 3: Eduardo is asking me to mute Claudia's mic.
[33:41] Andrew: And guess what? I'm just, I can't keep, I can't keep doing this.
[33:45] Guest 4: You were asked a question, and you're giving an honest response.
[33:47] Andrew: Yes, well, okay, it's also not that honest, like, I think I'd probably say this. But initially, initially, Andrew did say that we had to each, like, pick one, so I was gonna go for "If I Can't Have You." It's just, like, she never gets to just sing sweet little love song to her sweet little girlfriend.
[34:06] Guest 5: In a top-tier Sandhout fit.
[34:08] Guest 6: Top-tier Sandhout fit.
[34:10] Andrew: Oh, top-tier, beyond top-tier, yeah, beautiful.
[34:13] Guest 1: So hot, so good.
[34:14] Guest 2: Yeah.
[34:16] Andrew: What else do I have to say about this? I love the original song. I love Vaughn Elliman. And that's the only time we, no, that's not true, we get two, we get two cover songs. It's just a legend.
[34:24] Guest 3: Wait, what's the other one?
[34:27] Guest 4: I don't know how to love him.
[34:30] Andrew: Oh, you're right, you're right, you're right.
[34:32] Guest 5: Yep, yep, yep. Yeah, so I just, I don't know, it's a good one, okay? It's up there for me.
[34:39] Guest 6: It's maybe not, like, top 10 songs, but it's a good one, and that's, I'm just putting it out there, okay? People are being really mean to me.
[34:49] Guest 1: No, I think it's, like, kind of, like, the most forgotten Sandholo.
[34:52] Guest 2: Yeah.
[34:52] Guest 3: That, like, we don't really consider her, so.
[34:55] Guest 4: Thank you.
[34:56] Guest 5: It is, because even the way, even, no, no, I was just in agreeance there, I was thinking. It is, because even within the context of the episode, the scene immediately preceding is, like, I believe, is it Kirsch or something in Sue's office?
[35:09] Guest 6: Ooh, I hate that I immediately know what you're talking about, but it's Kurt and Mercedes in Sue's office, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[35:13] Guest 1: Yeah, correct, and, like, the song, you hear the music play as Sue is talking, and it's, like, a close-up shot of Kurt and Mercedes, and I feel like that, even, you know, like, the way it begins.
[35:21] Guest 2: I guess.
[35:24] Guest 3: Does that make sense?
[35:25] Guest 4: It's a great, it's just, like, a great song, anyway, and I should have maybe watched this, but I did not even, like, watch the performance. "Saturday Night Glee," a representation.
[35:33] Guest 5: Mm-hmm, we're gonna be on it.
[35:34] Guest 6: Andrew, has your thoughts changed? Did you go back to revisit ever since I came back?
[35:38] Andrew: I was talking to Zach Faust the other day about the, like, the variety lists of, like, all, like, the, what, the top 100 television characters of, like—
[35:49] Guest 1: The characters or performances?
[35:50] Andrew: Performances or, yeah.
[35:52] Guest 2: Performances, and she should have been lower.
[35:54] Guest 3: And Santana was, I think, like, what, 28?
[35:58] Guest 4: 76.
[36:01] Guest 5: 76?
[36:01] Guest 1: Yeah.
[36:02] Guest 6: Revisionist history.
[36:03] Andrew: Yeah, okay.
[36:06] Guest 2: Um, and Zach was, was saying that, um, he was presenting some other options in addition to Santana that could have been on the list, and saying that, um, Finn could have been on the list, and his, like, top episode where he does the most and, like, shows his range.
[36:22] Guest 3: "Saturday Night Glee."
[36:23] Andrew: "Saturday Night Glee-ber," yeah.
[36:24] Guest 4: 100% agree.
[36:25] Guest 5: Yeah.
[36:26] Guest 6: What about when he shoots a gun through his leg?
[36:32] Guest 1: In the breakup.
[36:32] Guest 2: I think that one's pretty good.
[36:33] Guest 3: I think that one's pretty good, too.
[36:34] Guest 4: That one's pretty good, too.
[36:36] Guest 5: Now, actually.
[36:38] Guest 6: Are we, are we ready to do the practice?
[36:41] Guest 1: Yes.
[36:42] Guest 2: Watching two Glee performances and saying which one is better?
[36:45] Guest 3: Sure.
[36:45] Guest 4: Go on and look at everything else.
[36:47] Guest 5: Yay!
[36:47] Guest 6: Ah!
[36:50] Guest 1: Let's see.
[36:53] Guest 2: Ooh!
[36:55] Guest 3: I mean.
[36:56] Guest 4: It's "Whistle."
[36:57] Guest 5: It's gotta be "Whistle."
[36:59] Guest 6: It's not "Whistle."
[37:01] Guest 1: Fuck!
[37:02] Guest 2: Um.
[37:04] Guest 3: I love this one. This is really amazing to me.
[37:08] Guest 4: Okay.
[37:08] Guest 5: Boom.
[37:09] Guest 6: You see that?
[37:10] Guest 1: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[37:12] Guest 2: Our little blondies.
[37:34] Guest 3: Have the time of my life and I owe it all to you.
[37:45] Guest 4: I've been waiting for so long and now I finally found someone.
[37:49] Guest 5: Stand by me.
[37:53] Guest 6: We saw the writing on the walls.
[37:56] Guest 1: We felt this magical fantasy.
[38:00] Guest 2: Now with passion in our lives, there's no way we could disguise it secretly.
[38:11] Guest 3: So we take each other's hand. Cause we seem to understand the urgency.
[38:19] Guest 4: Just remember, you're the one thing I can't get enough of.
[38:29] Guest 5: So I'll tell you something.
[38:34] Guest 6: This could be love.
[38:36] Guest 1: Because I've had the time of my life.
[38:43] Guest 2: No, I never felt this way before.
[38:47] Guest 3: Yes, I swear.
[38:49] Guest 4: It's the truth and I owe it all to you.
[38:59] Guest 5: I've had the time of my life.
[39:05] Guest 6: No, I never felt this way before.
[39:09] Guest 1: Yes, I swear.
[39:11] Guest 2: It's the truth and I owe it all to you.
[39:30] Guest 3: Yes, I swear.
[39:31] Guest 4: It's the truth and I owe it all to you.
[39:40] Guest 5: That part of the song right there is right at the end, which is...
[39:45] Guest 6: Which is...
[39:46] Guest 1: Okay, sorry.
[39:47] Guest 2: Someone go ahead.
[39:48] Guest 3: You're talking about the Mercedes.
[39:50] Guest 4: Yeah, I just feel like the only thing that the Dux points for me from this song after having listened to the mp3 today is that, in my opinion, the best part of the mp3 are the Naya and Amber ad-libs at the end of the song.
[40:06] Guest 5: It's really...
[40:07] Guest 6: They're really fun.
[40:07] Guest 1: I don't know if I'm even familiar.
[40:11] Guest 2: Well, what is like a Santana ad-lib?
[40:12] Guest 3: I forget about this one.
[40:14] Guest 4: I don't know.
[40:16] Guest 5: But Naya is on the track, I think.
[40:18] Guest 6: Naya is on the track because I remember in the summer of 2011, I was...
[40:23] Guest 1: This would be...
[40:24] Guest 2: I remember, of course, the summer of 2011, that this would be a very consistent stream on my night runs. And I remember discovering the Naya and Amber ad-libs and putting together. I'm like, oh, Sam and all the girls that he dates throughout season two are all in one song, which, of course, you know, flash forward, we get just about every girl to ever sit that foot in that choir room with Sam. But we have, you know, Santana, Samsadies and Forbrevins all in one.
[41:04] Guest 3: Are we... Is the culture... Is it a popular thing to say in the culture that the most popular Sam pairing is Samsadies followed by Forbrevins? Or is that up for discussion?
[41:14] Guest 4: I think that that feels right.
[41:16] Guest 5: Claudia, what do you say?
[41:18] Guest 6: I think so. I wrote down that I like forgot that they even really liked each other because of the Finn mess, which really pisses me off. As I've said on this podcast before, I really... I think a lot about how Quinn did... Quinn did our little blondie boy Sam wrong.
[41:36] Guest 1: But they're so cute in this.
[41:38] Guest 2: It's really, really cute.
[41:39] Guest 3: I feel like I remember... They're so cute. I don't know if anybody else remembers this interview that Ryan did where he decided to break Sam and Quinn up because they were just too good together. Do you remember this?
[41:47] Guest 4: Yeah, I vaguely remember that.
[41:54] Guest 5: And that sounds exactly like something Ryan Murphy will say. Cut that out, please hire me.
[42:00] Guest 6: Whereas Tina and Mike, they seem really happy, but they're not getting anything. Whenever there's a musical performance where they walk from the back of the theatre, the auditorium, whatever, it really reminds us...
[42:14] Guest 1: They're reheating Faithfully's nachos.
[42:16] Faith: Yeah, basically, faithfully, faithfully from, faithfully from Wish, I don't know. Walking from the back of the theatre, that really is reminiscent of, has anyone here ever seen a play in which you're sitting in the audience and then there's an actor sat beside you who's in the play and who stands up like five minutes in and goes, and then you're like, oh my god, it's an actor. We have very much sat next to an actor before like that. Not right next to an actor, but have you been sat next to an actor before? No, because that would really kick me out. I would feel like I thought I could trust you. It's a very high, no, it's a very like high school thing. Oh, I wish. And all I, something I noticed that when Sam and, and I just want to say this, when Sam and Quinn pull back the curtain at the back and they walk, they're walking up the aisle, all I wanted, I didn't even dream of being on Glee.
Okay, my standards were a lot lower. I just wanted to be an extra. Do you see the way there was one woman in the back and she was really doing the acting because she turned around and she was like, so she was like this. Perfect. Her career made in that moment. I did catch that like Sam and Quinn got much different reactions from the women that were right next to that archway when they came out. I wrote down woman looking at Sam, like she's like completely in awe. Like she is just like, you know, like Joey, what is it? What's her name? The Joey King, like glam. And then you see Sarah Hyland in the back and she's just like, wow. That's like what this woman looking at Sam is kind of personifying.
Whereas the woman looking at Quinn could not be bothered a day in her life. Like she's chewing, she's smacking gum and she's just like rolling her eyes that this beautiful woman is next to her singing. Probably jealous. She's probably jealous.
[44:11] Guest: Absolutely. Have we ever talked about where the dress fit for this competition ranks? People are saying in the comments that the leggings under the dress is a period piece. I have to agree.
[44:26] Faith: Most certainly is. I think it's kind of iconic. I mean, I don't think it's the worst. It's an interesting combination. Also, like very strong color choice for the guys that is not incorporated into the girls outfit at all. But like, OK. I guess Maroon could be a neutral. Chaotic neutral. But I do have to say, and I don't want to be pedantic about it. For me, the best part of the MP3 is Amber and Naya towards the end. So that really does, it loses points for me, which is worrying for the future of the song from my perspective, because I like, Sam and Quinn sound cute, but like, you know, like they're not vocalists like, you know. But it's fine. I really do like it. And I feel like I'm having just as much fun listening to this as I am with like Faithfully, you know, like it's like they're really great. I feel like it's like the biological little sister of Faithfully in a lot of ways.
[45:30] Guest: Twice removed.
[45:31] Faith: OK, sure. But still, I think that the one of the things that I feel like this is... Maybe stepsisterize. Is like lacking is why I'm sure it had to have been a conversation. The lift, the dirty dancing lift. Why don't they do that in this song?
[45:51] Guest: Because they don't have... It just wouldn't work with those two. Sorry.
[45:56] Faith: You don't think so?
[45:57] Guest: No, I don't think so. Just I don't, I wouldn't have been enthralled by that. I don't know. It just, I can't imagine Cordova's going to be like this, you know.
[46:08] Faith: It would be so fun to see like, getting ready to run and then running into Sam. I just think that would be so cute.
[46:16] Guest: No, no. It would have been a big gift back on Tumblr. I'll give you that.
[46:21] Faith: Yeah. How would they even be singing? But people are saying it's like because Valerie was coming up. But maybe they could have had like a Mike and Brittany do like a reference at some point in the choreography, maybe. I do really like the snap that they do. Quinn's dancing is so cute.
[46:37] Guest: Wait, there's a part in the choreography where they go like this.
[46:40] Faith: Yes.
[46:41] Guest: Are you talking about that? Yeah.
[46:43] Faith: It's almost like the Jersey dance. They go like this. It's literally like that. Do you know what I'm talking about?
[46:49] Guest: That's not the one I was thinking about, I don't think.
[46:49] Faith: You have to be here to understand what that was, but yeah.
[46:51] Guest: Oh, okay. Oh.
[46:53] Faith: It was so cute. She looks so happy. I do. I did really appreciate the little Finchel moment there. Rachel, Sidewine, Finn. I've had the time of my life, but I'm not really having the time. Like, I love you, kind of thing. That was really nice.
[47:10] Guest: I'm not really having the time of my life.
[47:12] Faith: But I think that, like, I mean, here's the thing. I do like the Brevins. I really do. I think that they work so well together in duets in particular. And it's just a shame that the writers had no idea what to do with this character, i.e. Quinn, because this girl has been through the ringer and we're 30 episodes into the series.
[47:34] Guest: Yeah.
[47:36] Faith: You know?
[47:38] Guest: Hmm. The downfall of Quinn really started when they broke up. Is this what you're getting at?
[47:45] Faith: The downfall of Quinn really started when she ran into her car in episode two in the pouring rain and Terry shoots her in the face. And that was the beginning of the end.
[47:56] Guest: Which, Diana Agon's a great actress, but that, not to get too off point, that reaction was very odd. Like, surely if you were to run into your car and find that there was a complete stranger sitting in your passenger seat, you'd be like, like, you know, very odd.
[48:14] Faith: But she's, like, very curious.
[48:16] Guest: Yeah.
[48:19] Faith: I need, I need something.
[48:19] Guest: Hmm, who are you?
[48:22] Faith: I need an act of God. Maybe this is it. You know, who are you? Diana's just living her best life. I want to know what, who Diana Agon updates loved Quinn with. That's what I want to know.
[48:34] Guest: You're obsessed with every facet of Diana Agon updates.
[48:38] Faith: And you're not?
[48:39] Guest: No, I mean, you're just outward about it, where I'm being a little coy about it, you know?
[48:44] Faith: I don't know that you are. I feel like you name drop pretty often.
[48:47] Andrew: And I do have an obsession with an ugly cast member, which I don't want to say. And we always send each other things related to them.
[48:54] Guest: Oh, full camp.
[48:55] Andrew: Full camp. And the way we're obsessed with that person is the way that I'm obsessed with Diana Agon updates. Diana Agon updates is a cultural moment. And I do think that you could convince her to come on the podcast if you put like a voice, you know, like an anonymous, like, I don't really know.
[49:11] Guest: I think I'll be voting for don't rain on my Diana Agon updates is retired, though. I don't want to bring Diana Agon updates out of retirement to talk about a girl again. I think she's it sounds like she's been through a lot since starting this career of updating Diana Agon.
[49:29] Andrew: It's important work to be done.
[49:34] Guest: Yeah, I know. But like, it's important work. And we do need to know the answers to those questions. And I'm really curious to find out the answer to the question of what if this song goes through or not. One final thing that I want to say about this. I haven't really said anything.
[49:50] Faith: Wait, Claudia, do you want to say you?
[50:09] Claudia: I was just waiting to say that I had I texted you when we like we're going through what six songs we left and this one that I like felt like kind of lukewarm about I don't think about it a lot. I don't remember that there are these adlibs because I feel like I never streaming it. I don't really know why because I obviously like love Quinn and Diana. Yeah. But it that just really that was a really pleasant surprise. It was really, really good. It was very sweet. Diana looks like she's about to like rip Ford's clothes off. I don't know if that was...
[50:44] Faith: Oh, she's been choice. She's already on me. Yeah, put it into terms. She's at a Noah Guthrie concert. And she is real, real. She had a crazy look in her eyes. And I was like, Okay, girl, and she's just having so much fun. She never gets to have so much fun. And I was really happy for her. And yeah, again, like I never really think about for Brevin's. I like Sam Sadie's fine. And I like Sam fine. But I guess I don't think about that that much. And then before he has his lobotomy. Right? Well, I famously said that Britney and not famously, but it's something that I think in my own brain. Britney and Sam are like, a hilarious bisexual couple. And I'm really happy that they had the time that they had. It didn't happen, I guess. Cannon. Yeah. And then just I thought these are really good. This is a really good arrangement of the song. Really fun. Oh, okay. And vocalists. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Just generally really good.
[51:49] Faith: Diana vocal. I thought I feel like she a I don't think a lot about like, when she's like a heavily featured vocalist in a group number, I guess. But yeah, really good. I forget. I'm a Pillsbury Quinn has a lovely voice. And I didn't get any of this. Yeah. Um, well, I just quickly not to...
[52:09] Claudia: Oh, just quickly not to divert too much. Just I want to give a shout out to my girl, Lauren Zeiss. It is her first competition here. Great job. And I feel like she did a fucking excellent job quite fun. You just got ziced. She did a good job. So yeah, the end when Amber is belting. Zeiss is also belting but you know, like that's not really she's like, Ben. Oh, like I was I was clocking that like her voice is like, being projected to the skies. Like yeah, really like delivering something and she's a week into this club and she's giving it her all. Yeah. And she isn't. Um, one of the things that I was thinking about while watching this performance is that obviously a lot of people talk about the trouble tones versus New Direction season season three sectionals.
And the fact that New Directions won over Trouble Tones when a lot of people think it should have been the opposite way. And I was thinking about this competition, the fact that it was the New Directions versus the Warblers and they tied and just for context here we have I've had the time of my life the performance we just watched as well as Valerie. And so that tied with the Warblers singing Hey, Soul Sister. And I'm like, I think that that should really sit way worse in terms with the gloomunity. Because I think that that was much more of a sin to me.
[53:33] Guest: Yeah, that's great. You're so that's so right. And we need to have that conversation. Because what the fuck was that about? What was that about? Hey, Soul Sister? Yeah, we only saw Hey, Soul Sister in that episode. We don't know what else. Yeah, any damn sense. They had way less beautiful blonde girls on stage. In fact, I checked. None. There are no beautiful blonde girls in the Warblers.
[53:57] Faith: Sounds really weird. Weird. Um, any final notes about this damn performance? Y'all are really hoping I don't get whistled right now.
[54:06] Guest: Would you whistle over this? It's hard to say. Claudia.
[54:14] Claudia: For fuck's sake. No way. I just want people to know. I told I said, please, rig it. Please rig it. And he said no. Yeah. And you still got my favorite. But FYI, before you play that song, I just want to give a shout out. My favorite people on planet Earth are people who believe this podcast is rigged. I'm just obsessed with them. I love them so much. Imagine that being your one conspiracy theory. Oh, I hate it. Oh, my God. The MP4 is gonna get rid of my feelings. I'm really confident about that. You're gonna cleanse your good MP3 people. Get on board. Hope you enjoy the show.
[55:21] ♪ Musical number: "Whistle" — performed by Unknown performer ♪
[57:21] Claudia: Okay, all right. Let's see him. So what is so beautiful about him to you? It just like literally scratches my brain and like, I don't know. Like, I feel like I am on those performance enhancing drugs when I hear this arrangement for some reason. I don't know why. I can't explain it. Just really fun to listen to. If I'm in a bad mood, this is like a really good song to just listen to.
[57:44] Andrew: So, does he bring you out of a bad mood?
[57:50] Claudia: Yeah, like can we just talk about take a little longer? Like, why is he doing that? Are you streaming the original?
[57:56] Connor: No, I'm not. I'm not streaming the original. I'm streaming this. It's so weird. Like, it's so weird. Obsessed with like, the point where the song is supposed to end. All of a sudden, they get a standing ovation. And they're like, oh, we got to keep this going. And they're like, oh, okay, they're, they're on board. Let's keep it up. Let's keep it up. Grant Gustin mentioned, okay. That was kind of like a, like a jump scare for me. Not in the best way possible. I love seeing Gustin on my screen. But like, he, I forgot that he was there until they showed a shot of him.
[58:27] Claudia: Well, he like was barely, well, he was like, not present at all. And then he is after this, Live While We're Young? No, that's something else. Yeah, it's just absolutely absurd. It's absolutely absurd. And this is not supposed to be like, this one is not supposed to be a performance that's like, ridiculously stupid. But to me, it is. All the choreography is insane. Some of it's actually like, pretty fun to watch. But a lot of it is really disturbing to watch, especially when towards the end, what's his face? Hunter? Hunter. He's doing his like, kind of ad libs at the end. And he's like, let me show you how to do it. Let me show you how to do it. And he's like, walking across the stage, giving us a little bit of like a, like a little bit of like a side profile. And like a, like a little bit of a pursed lip. And I'm like, wow. We are getting, we are getting the vocals today. We're getting the vocals.
[59:21] Connor: I just can't. I just have a song in my heart. I don't know. I know, when you've got the talent, flaunt it. I do have to say, though, just to back Claudia up. Thank you. Like, I, that wasn't nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be. Say something nice about the song challenge. The choreography was great. Great. I forgot that there was a backflip in this. That was so fun. It would be remiss of us. However, to, to contrast that, it is when Hunter starts the performance with, hope you enjoy the show. Why do I, why do I feel threatened?
[59:56] Claudia: Yeah, it's all very threatening. Hope you enjoy the show. It's like, um, maybe, well, I feel like I have to now because I don't know what's about to happen. Um, and again, the enhancement drugs are very funny to me. Glee's treatment of drug. Oh, what am I saying? Glee's treatment of like a drug use on the show is just very funny in general. Like throwing it back to, does anyone remember when they're in wheels when they're doing the bake sale and the cook goes to chronic lady? Oh, chronic, chronic lady. Yeah. Goodbyes. And he's like, um, the doctor and he's in, he's in the wheelchair and he's like, the doctor says that my, um, that I've injured my spine or whatever. I'm going to be like this for the rest of my life. I'm just like, that's why I never go to the aquarium.
[1:00:47] Connor: So I had a note there about Glee's treatment of drug use, watching this performance, presuming that they were taking supplements or whatever as an extra layer, because we all know, we all know that that storyline was piss poor and just plucked out a fucking thinner at the last minute. But I like to live in a reality in which all of those actors and performers and dancers were told, guys, you're meant to be on the roids. Like you're meant to be on performance drugs there.
[1:01:12] Claudia: Yeah. I was like thinking a lot about like Hunter and like the purpose of this character that is only if I'm not mistaken, like what three episodes, maybe like why? I guess they couldn't have had Sebastian continue to just be the leader of this group and, um, like have everybody else like not say anything because Sebastian has turned a new leaf at that point. And so they needed someone to be evil, but it's like, it happens like blink and you'll miss it. Hunter arc, you know?
[1:01:43] Connor: Yeah. Well, it's also like they needed someone to be evil to like randomly have like a villain, but yeah, they didn't really like, we didn't need to get like a recycled version of this character. There's like a character of there's, there's like a trope of a character on Glee that's really interesting to me, which I feel like Hunter falls under this category and like Brie, not for the evilness of it, but just like, not for the fact that they're both evil. The fact that they're like, they're on the show, but they're not, you know what I mean?
[1:02:15] Claudia: Yeah. They just need people to like come in every so often to be like, yeah, really mean. And then they'll, we know that they're not going to last.
[1:02:20] Connor: Yeah. Yeah. It's just very odd. It's very odd. I do have to say that I was in a gay bar a couple of months ago for Halloween, and I was dressed as a warbler and a girl walked by me in the smoking area and pointed at me and was like, can you blow my whistle? And I was like, yes, that is the warbler song. That's actually crazy. So weird because I once wanted to start a conversation with her, but then conversely, I wanted to run away.
[1:02:57] Claudia: Yeah. You should have started with like, why come at me with that? I hope she's doing well. I think I got her Instagram. Anyway, I digress. She would probably be on my side. Okay. Am I the only one that thinks it's like fun to listen to? It's not in my top, like I did like a, you know, a top 30 Glee songs playlist. It's not up there, but it's a fun song. Whatever.
[1:03:14] Connor: I'm trying to think of a song that's fun to listen to. It's not up there, but it's a fun song. Whatever. I'm trying to think. I'm trying to imagine that it comes up and shuffle on Spotify. What would I do? Would I let it play or would I give myself a little double click on these AirPods to go on to the next one?
[1:03:37] Claudia: Just try it. Just do a little bit of an exercise, a little bit of a thought experiment.
[1:03:41] Connor: I tried it. I've listened to these six songs on repeat for like the past 48 hours, and right, right, right. And Whistle, I was just like, I knew that you had a relationship with Claudia and I heard it out pretty consistently. There were like a few times where I was like, okay, on this six song playlist, I'm like, I'm going to skip this. Like I've already heard it too many times. I don't want to hear it again. I already heard what it had to say, and I don't like it.
[1:04:08] Claudia: Whatever. How much of the fact, are we going to say this? How much of the fact that we don't like it is because it's about a blowjob? Like are blowjobs just off limits?
[1:04:21] Connor: Wake up. Okay. Wake up. This song is about blowjobs.
[1:04:29] Claudia: I just don't, I guess, yeah, that is part of it, I guess for me, but like, it just feels like I don't like it. There are just so many other warbler performances that I like better than this.
[1:04:42] Connor: Do you know what it is for me? It's the attitude of it. It doesn't seem like a warbler song.
[1:04:46] Claudia: I was gonna say, this is like a completely different warblers than like any other ones, I think. Even when you have Sebastian leading them, it's, this is completely different. So it's like doesn't even exist in a category besides like really random weird song. Again, I don't think they were trying to be camp with this. But it is to me.
[1:05:08] Andrew: I hate to do breaking news. We've never done breaking news in the middle of a recording. I'm seeing it. Andrew, look, someone said.
[1:05:16] Connor: But people in the chat are bringing to our attention that Chris Colfer is at maybe Happy Endings and took a picture with Darren. And so wow, that's crazy that that was just happened. Which is really saying something, because as you know, he didn't go see Funny Girl.
[1:05:33] Claudia: That's not saying much that we that we are surprised to hear, I would say.
[1:05:38] Connor: Oh, I feel bad for for both of them, because I feel like now they because they do not like being seen together. But I guess Chris willingly posted that. Yeah. So I mean, it's been it's been enough time. Hasn't that? What is the glee breaking news the past couple of months? It's been quiet. Diana Agron Updates retires.

[1:06:22] Connor: No. Insane. Good. Awesome. Okay, that's crazy work. That's really good. Oh, he's crazy work.
[1:06:32] Andrew: Okay, so bringing it back to this competition of I've had the time of my life versus whistle, who feels confident in their, their vote with this competition?
[1:06:45] Claudia: I really don't actually, in a way that you might not expect. I'll walk in my the first one. Yeah. Okay. It's so easy. I've had the time of my life. And I owe it all to this song.
[1:07:07] Connor: Yeah. Hey, guys, you never know what my next move is. Do you want to whistle and then make Connor choose?
[1:07:10] Claudia: No, I don't. Because I actually don't think I'm gonna do it. No, I think I'm gonna go for No, please do because I want to flip things up. And just so you're gonna vote for whistle.
[1:07:19] Connor: No, I actually I don't think I'm gonna vote for whistle. Frankly. I love her, but she can be just fine. That's fine. So you would really just like that girl that I met in the gay bar?
[1:07:28] Claudia: Okay, Claudia, I see what you're saying. I would really dislike. Yeah. Yeah, I don't like that. No, I like I said, this time of my life is when I forget about but it's really it's good. And it's quality is better than it's better than what we just had to kind of witness. But it's still special to me. And I think that's okay. I don't know. I'll just go ahead and say I can have it's okay for me to have fun.
[1:07:50] Connor: You're using a little lily on a on whistles grave is grave. Yeah, yes. Yes. Yeah, I'm dancing. I'm dancing on it. That's not very respectful. I don't think I'm doing a big backflip. I'm doing the I'm gonna show you how to do it.
[1:08:06] Andrew: It's so I feel bad for everybody just listening to that. It's really, really great. I took the performance enhancing drugs before recording. Perfect. I feel crazy. I'm so happy I got to watch that, though. And that's enough for me. I'm so happy I got to watch that with you guys with all of that was really special. That was beautiful. Everyone had to watch us watch whistle.
[1:08:26] Claudia: Yeah, I think there's probably some good. Isn't that very weird? Like who would have thought that in the year 2025? I'd be sitting here being like, I'm on a zoom with like 40 people watching me watch whistle glucose. More like 70. Who gets to say that? Oh, 70. Excuse me. Erasure.
[1:08:45] Connor: Yeah, but like, very strange, isn't it? It's so weird now. Captain obvious, but it's so weird that round three is about to begin. Are you are we jumping straight into it next week? Or is there a breather?
[1:08:59] Andrew: Oh, there's a recap, an analytics episode that's coming out the following week with Amelia and Matt joining me. And then there will be a little breaky break because I kind of need one if that's okay to say.
[1:09:20] Claudia: I think it is. You can have a break. I can have fun. I think you need a break. I think you need a break. Thank you. Um, so do we have any further notes before I give you the boot?
[1:09:26] Connor: Connor hasn't voted. I'll go ahead. Oh, oh, go ahead. True. Actually, thank you so much for protecting democracy. That's something very important to me here in America. We're pretty good about that. You might not know that. I'm so sorry. We're allowed to vote. So sorry that you're in America. I will be voting on this occasion, my final vote for round two, which is so scary. I will be voting for I've had the time of my life, which is what guest on this podcast has been Andrew.
[1:10:06] Andrew: Oh, thank you so much.
[1:10:09] Connor: Thank you. So I'm going to be locking that in three for three easy.
[1:10:15] Claudia: Oh, I love that. Can you can you tell us to turn the camera off the way you told Matt before?
[1:10:19] Andrew: No, I want to ask you I want to ask you to do a little plug a Rooney before I bring in the next pair of gleeks. Claudia, starting with you. I am on Instagram at
[1:10:26] Claudia Gets Crafty: I've exchanged Letterboxd with some Gleeks, so please. I just got Letterboxd today. Oh, thank God. Oh, thank you. I recently just did that as well. We kind of really don't know each other. We need to reconnect. The only one I've reviewed is Wicked. Oh, of course. You didn't like it very much. Because I'm not putting... See, I was like, I'm not going to put on all of the movies that I've seen in my life or the ones that I can remember because I feel like this is a new thing now. So I'm like, okay, Wicked, like, I can remember that because I saw it seven times, you know? You need a fresh watch. Yeah, I need like a fresh watch. I'm currently watching Amelia Perez. Currently? Currently. Right now?
In several sittings. It takes that long just to get through the opening credits. I was thinking of that scene in the movie. Man to woman, woman to man. I was just like, when I was watching it there, prior to recording, I was like, yes, yes, yes, yes. Vagina plus the yes. Rhinoplasty yes. I was like, I just know that this would have been Glee season six. This would have been Glee season seven, actually. Will Schuster would sing it. Will Schuster would sing it. Vagina plus the yes. Rhinoplasty yes. So, yeah, we need to connect and let our bugs stop with this. Because I have some thoughts. Wait, drop it. Wait, everyone. Oh, my God. I can't believe... Wait, I just switched back to scary mode. I might have got to redo that.
Everyone turn their camera on. How about that? No. Let me see you. Come on. Say it to my face, Eduardo. Who is going to be brave enough to turn the camera on? I don't see any cameras turning on. See? Andrew's going to be so mad at you, Connor. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. They're all gay. Oh, my God. Who do I know here? Oh, Abby, I'm pretty sure I was on an episode with you before. Hey. That was such an awkward... Oh, my God. Andrew was going to kill me. No, I love this. I see so many familiar faces. This is so sweet. Hello, everyone. Kelly and Ryan and... Oh, my God. Mr. TV's... Mr. Ian Allred from Recovering Gleek. He made it. Oh, my God. He made it. Okay. This has been emotional. Thank you so much.
I'm going to turn my camera off now and watch everyone else. And I'm going to do that, too. Okay. Perfect. Loved you all. Wait, did Connor plug himself? I don't know. Yeah, Connor, you didn't plug yourself. I'm going to stop giving you a platform. I didn't plug myself. Okay. You can find me on Instagram at IamConnorBurke. That's I am and then Connor with one M Burke. I'm always chatting to the Gleeks and having fun. So you can find me there. And wait, what's the letterbox? It's the same. I am Connor Burke. I'm really going for the brand consistency. Oh, I'm the same way. I have white guy on there as well. My letterbox is also my Instagram. Okay. We've got that in common. I feel like I'm not like nervous, nervous.
I'm like excited, nervous. You know what I mean? Where I feel like I've just like for the past hour, I've just been like, just like really like glowing in the moment of this entire episode. And so I just feel really weird, but excited, weird. Anyway, thank you so much, Connor and Claudia, for that first competition. I'm going to bring out Abby and Matt. Abby, hello. Bring him out. Bring him out. Bring him out. Oh my God. There they are. I got to say, I'm afraid you yelled at me before, but now it's okay. What a relief to come in after that matchup. How do you feel about that competition? I feel great that the first song was pulled and there is no possibility of that versus Will You Love Me Tomorrow ahead of her feet.
That's what we're manifesting today? Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Okay. Abby, do you have thoughts on... I'm so glad to see you. It's been a minute. It's been a little second. Yeah. We've literally scheduled this entire live stream around your schedule because you are the busiest clique that I know. Sorry. No. Oh my God. Complimentary. Oh, thank you. I missed that flight, by the way. Flight to Germany. Oh yeah. Oh no. It was bad for me. Anyways, don't worry about it. Anyways, I've got the time of my life versus Whistle. What do you have to say about that? Matt, would you like to go first? I mean, I just want everybody to understand that there is something to Whistle. So, shout out for the Whistle representation that we just got.
Yes. I don't know. For me, there's something that happens with a song like Whistle where it, no matter what, will get stuck in your head. And there's something powerful in music about that. And even if I don't always want it to be there, it is always there if I listen to it. That's Flo Rida. Yes? Yeah. Huh. Yeah. I don't think that this song really stands the test of time for me. No. But the catchiness, you can't deny. Sure, you cannot deny. But yeah, I've had Going Through is the correct decision. They're also cute, those cute little Glee kids. So, a joy to watch that along with all the rest of us here. It's really pure. I really like it a lot. Yeah. Abby, what do you think about that? I agree.
I think if the Orblers went in for Whistle over, I've had the time of my life. Cute. Season two, they just came from fighting, beefing, and now they have to perform. The drama of it all. You have the ad-libs from Santana and Mercedes. The blondes being cute together. I mean, God, America loved it, I'm so sure. So, that over... Honestly, it's always going to be girls versus boys to me. So, when it comes... Even if these songs were even, it had too many males. It was all males. I'm so sorry. I might be a misandrist. But the fact that Quinn was there, the girls singing the ad-libs. Sure, Sam is singing the song, but at the end of the day, the girlies. So, they would always got my vote. Even if I loved the Orblers down.
I feel like I'm recalling now, Abby, a conversation that we had. I believe it was in the episode with Claudia, where you were talking about how you didn't like brunettes dating each other. What was the conversation around thousand miles? I don't know. Maybe I said that blonde people are scary to me. No shade to anybody who's blonde. Are we okay with blonde on blonde dating? Well, because Sam's not really a blonde. And I don't think Quinn is either. Oh, she isn't. Lucy Caboosey. Lucy Caboosey is... I don't know. I don't know what she's doing. I remember season three, episode two, when that aired. And I remember telling my mom this. And she was like, she had nothing to do with it. It was like, I don't know what to do with this information.
The fact that we see Beth in I Am Unicorn, and she has blonde hair. And I remember pausing the episode and turning to my mom and being like, actually, last season, we saw Lucy Caboosey, and she had brown hair. And Puck is also famously not blonde either. So why does that make sense? And she simply just had blank expression. I don't know what to do with this information. That's unfortunate you couldn't have started your Glee podcast back then. Guys, did anybody notice that Beth had blonde hair when she genetically shouldn't? Don't... excuse me if I'm... correct me if I'm wrong, but sometimes don't babies start out blonde, and then they become brunettes sometimes in the Caucasian variety? Abbey, that sounds like your line of work, if anything.
Cha, I close my eyes for this. If you presented it to us right now as a fact, I would say yeah. A lot of the time, a lot of kids go from lighter eyes or lighter hair, and then it gets darker as time goes on. Yeah. Also, you know, genes are very funny. Sometimes... Like Gene Silvestri? Why are you covering Ryan, Ian, and Brad's ass right now? I'm not. I'm just saying, scientifically, it's not completely impossible. Somebody said Puck can have a recessive blonde gene. If you draw the Putnam Square, and then you put the double... No, seriously. Not the Putnam Square on the glack? No. People have like... You know those twins where they have like a... Mason and Madison? They're like a black parent and a white parent, and then they have kids, and then they have twins, and one twin looks black, and one twin looks white, but they're technically twins, and one has blonde... Have you ever seen that before?
Basically, what I'm saying is that it's possible. It's possible. Genetics are weird. Like genres. You just want to fight me, I feel. I don't want to fight you. Are there any twins on the call? Andrew, did you spend enough time, or did we all spend enough time on that Instagram post? Because the breaking news is... Yeah, wait, what do you want to say about this breaking news? The Chris Colfer shipping. The caption. Saw my ex in his new show. I mean, he's acting like we all are aware that Clayne does not last. Oh, I guess I wasn't even considering that, that he is announcing that they're no longer together. No, he saw my ex in his new show. What ending of Glee did he record or film that we did not see?
Well, would you have rather him say, saw my husband in his new show? That would just not fly. That would feel weird. Maybe. Saw my Daydream Believer co-star in his new show. Okay. Daydream Believer. Saw the lane to my cuh. The lane to my cuh. Reunited? I don't know. Yeah, I'm going to have to sit on this. This is huge. I think it's just funny to me because it reminds me of Naya getting interviewed. I think it was like People Magazine, and they're like, oh, where is this headed now? And she's like, divorced a single mom. But I think that's because she was self-inserting. Not because Britney's actually divorced. Oh, she's just being, okay. She's being silly, very fun. I hadn't even considered that we have a 25% chance in the next poll, 33% in the poll after that, of polling Will You Love Me Tomorrow head over feet.
Somebody in the chat just mentioned this, which shows the rough times between this couple. Wait, what are you, wait. Oh, you're talking about the clean like the montage during the montage that happened. Yeah, yeah. So, um, I don't know. It just could be a very clean, heavy ending to this round. It's really good, though. They're not even here singing, right? Are they singing in any song that is left? No, I don't think so. No, I don't believe so. They got divorced, but I do think they get back together. Like, I think they're just, is this the beginning of them getting back together like this? It might be. Bringing it back to Glackett, Matt, do you have any competitions that you would like to shed light on that did not sit well with you?
Well, as Connor mentioned, it's a similar vein for me. There are two, three episodes that have aired since my last appearance, which I'm so grateful for. And anyone who listened to my last appearance knows that that did not go well for me. No, every competition. No, you know, but, you know, some of those were just throwaway votes, knowing that they didn't matter anyway. So the episode right after mine was with Connor and Jacob. And I don't know. I just not that I disagree with the decision in full or at all. Lady is a tramp versus you keep me hanging on. I was prepared to send you a text after that competition and be like, oh, I was going to vote with you or you keep me hanging on. Thinking Lady is a tramp was a guaranteed to go through.
It's interesting now that Lady is a tramp is involved in this vote to come back and probably has a pretty good chance, according to the math you were laying out before. But I don't know that you keep me hanging on would have had that same energy in a vote that Lady is a tramp is getting. So to get both of you to the next word, I think people don't like that. I don't know. I think people like it, but I don't think it would have been enough competition for it's all coming back to me now. Hmm. Yeah, no, I understand what you're saying. Yeah, I think Lady is a tramp stands out as more of like a like a really like, do you have the that poll up right now? Or did I send you a screenshot like yesterday?
Yeah. Where did Lady is a tramp? What does that currently have percentage wise in that screenshot? Yeah. Scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll. Yeah, I'm pulling up to scroll. Oh, it's not even in here. It's all coming back to me now. At that point, I had 39% and then boy is mine at 43%. But like, hasn't that shifted a little bit or? Lady's a tramp has 0% right now. Oh, sorry to reveal. It's funny. Sorry. I'm doing it again. First of all, where's the I can vote for the boys mine. I can't find it. I don't know what's going on. Yeah. Most embarrassing moment on podcasting. I'm doing it again. I'm mixing up Lady is a tramp and the boy is mine. Oh my God. Yes. Yeah. No, I understand what you mean.
Boy is mine. Yes. Currently has 44%. Whereas it's all going to have to go off camera because I'm so embarrassed. No, I'm just kidding. But I've done this like three times in the past 24 hours. Anyway, good. That's fine.
[1:24:33] Andrew: Here we are.
[1:24:33] Guest: The boy's mind. Replace boy's mind with everything that you just said.
[1:24:38] Andrew: Everything I just said.
[1:24:38] Guest: Everything.
[1:24:40] Andrew: So wait, what did you say Ladies of Tramp has in the vote?
[1:24:43] Guest: Zero percent.
[1:24:45] Andrew: Because the boy's mind is there.
[1:24:47] Guest: Yes. Boy's mind has 44, all coming back 40.
[1:24:53] Andrew: How do we get Connor back, or Claudia? Take my spot. No, I'm just kidding.
[1:24:57] Guest: No, look at me, you're doing great.
[1:24:58] Andrew: That's what I had in the past couple of matchups. I don't know if Abby has anything more pressing.
[1:25:05] Abby: Abby, do you have pressing things that you would like to discuss?
[1:25:09] Abby: I mean, I heard it was talked about a little bit in the first round. But you know, I was doing other things. My Love is Your Love. During Black History Month. Very telling. We have two black artists on that show. Mercedes and Artie singing their hearts out playing. We don't really talk about them. That's not their song. This is not. This is an Art Sadie's duet to me. And the fact that y'all would take this song away from me, myself, from Allison, from the bleaks out there during Black History Month. I don't even know if it was recorded during Black History Month. I don't care. I'm creating my own narrative. And what did it last year? Summer Nights.
[1:25:48] Andrew: Sure, that's- who has Mercedes? You're stressing me the fuck out. I'm sorry. I saw the results.
[1:25:57] Abby: And the gas that left my- the air that left my body. I felt like I was sucker punched. I felt like- I felt like- I literally felt like I couldn't breathe. I was like, wait, what's going on? Summer Nights is so cute. I love it. I get it. The girlies are having fun. It's so cute.
[1:26:11] Andrew: I saw earlier, Tyler commented saying about how the context is so important for that song.
[1:26:18] Abby: If for some reason in a future round of the Glackett, you watch the entire episode and not just the song, because that's not that time consuming. So maybe it's doable. And you watch the entire episode before that song you're just talking about. What is it? Artie and Mercedes?
[1:26:34] Guest: Oh, My Love Is Your Love.
[1:26:35] Abby: My Love Is Your Love. Brain's off today. If you watch the entire episode, I think it is like, you have to vote for it. Almost as much as you have to vote for Don't Stop Believin', just the way that that song wraps up that episode and the meaning behind why all those characters show up. It's like, so- it pulls at your heartstrings so much.
[1:26:56] Guest: It really does.
[1:26:57] Abby: Summer Nights, though, I think like in the moment and like putting myself in the spot of just watching the two performances and like, yeah, Summer Nights is a fun MP4. I think I probably also would have voted for Summer Nights, but like, I might be sitting here with regrets. And I understand the take there.
[1:27:10] Guest: It was a really difficult position to be in.
[1:27:15] Abby: Listen, listen, listen.
[1:27:16] Guest: Go ahead.
[1:27:17] Abby: Sorry, sorry, sorry. Go again. Go again.
[1:27:19] Guest: No, I'm just I mean, regurgitating what I already said, where it's like, I feel like those songs are like, if I were to list the 666 songs in order, you know, my liking, I think that they're so close that like, it's a real toss up. And I feel bad that like, I was the deciding vote on getting rid of My Love Is Your Love, which I'm hearing, Abby, that it is your love.
[1:27:40] Abby: Listen, it is my love. You have to understand they had just been like, come on, like, let's they had drama the whole week. Whitney had just died. Like, now they're singing My Love Is Your Love.
[1:27:54] Guest: Whitney died like maybe two months before.
[1:27:56] Abby: Whitney had just died.
[1:27:57] Guest: Just, it just happened.
[1:27:58] Abby: It just happened.
[1:27:59] Guest: She just died today. That's how it feels. You understand? Okay, so the fact that and then everybody's hugging Santana and Rachel, they're like, you know, like, come on, like, and then Summer Nights, like, that's cute. Like, whatever, Sam Sadie's is on the third. But like, at the end of the day, like, vocals are better on My Love Is Your Love. No shade.
[1:28:16] Guest: No. Oh, wait.
[1:28:17] Abby: No, no, no, no, no. I'm sorry.
[1:28:19] Guest: I know. But because I think, not to gleeksplain to you, Abby, of course.
[1:28:25] Guest: But the, the Amber run at the end of Summer Nights.
[1:28:31] Abby: I can hear it in my head. I absolutely love it.
[1:28:33] Guest: You're turning it off.
[1:28:34] Abby: At the end of the day, it's I'm still going for My Love Is Your Love that it just feels like, okay, you're taking they're taking me to church. Even though they're carrying clay on their back, they're still taking me to church.
[1:28:46] Guest: Over 1960, John Travolta, Sandy D, whatever her name is, like, you know, that's what resonates to me. I think that the vocals are better. I think the storyline hits me harder because we've talked about this before with like, romantic love versus platonic love. And for glee, it feeds that platonic love a lot. So when it comes to choosing two songs, like one about like, romantic love versus one about like, friendship love, I'm going to choose the like, people will choose the friendship love more. I think that's why I forgot I was like, to start with love one against something else.
[1:29:14] Guest: Oh, yeah, yeah.
[1:29:16] Abby: Oh, so it was with that. It was with that, that, but Oh, you know what I'm saying? So well, anyways, that's that that was my my biggest grievance.
[1:29:23] Guest: Friendship with the teacher love.
[1:29:24] Abby: Last round.
[1:29:25] Guest: Can I uh, can I have another rebuttal?
[1:29:27] Abby: You can have another rebuttal and we can go tap tippity tap.
[1:29:30] Guest: We can do okay, I'm gonna say one thing and then you can we can just keep on we can do this all night. Um, all right. You said that when you're looking at these two songs, you have romantic and friendship, love there. Those you're I'm sure that you're referencing friendship love for my love is your love. And then Summer Nights is romantic love. I would say that Summer Nights has both romantic and friendship because you're seeing the romance between Sam and Mercedes, but you're also seeing the friend the the friendship between all the girls in cart and all the boys. So that friendship on the on the on the girl side of that, that's kind of a little bit just have a gossip sesh, which can bring people together in a friendship type of way.
[1:30:11] Abby: But it's not it's not just a friendship, if not just a gossip sesh. I think someone in the chat said, I think it's I don't know if you want your name said, though. But they said in Summer Nights, I just love that my my love Mercedes gets to be the lead for a musical as she deserves. That's real. That's tea. At the end of the day, I'm always going to go with me before, like, even just as the song, the songs themselves, like take away the Gleecast version. I like that song better than Summer Nights. So that's definitely maybe playing into things. But at the end of the day, my breath was taken away and not in a good way, like the Gleecast version, Quintana duet. Best duet to touch. Yeah, you know, I think you've heard of it.
But yeah, that that was one of my grievances. We can go back and forth because I'll I'll fight tooth and nail. I love them. They dated for multiple episodes. But yeah, that's just my take. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm not sorry. I just want us to remember Andrew and Amelia in the chat, maybe more specifically, Amelia. We should look at what songs are going through to round three that are from musical episodes, because I want to know just like what else, you know, Grease, Rocky Horror, which there still is one in this episode story. Everything from the first time I know is out. There's also, you know, of course, the ones sprinkled in here and there that aren't in a full episode, but just like maybe specifically, well, I don't know, maybe a mix of both, because the episode specific ones are obviously kind of like their own category, but also from a musical sometimes can have that theatrical element to it. Yeah, just something I'm curious about, if we remember to do so.
[1:31:46] Guest: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm hearing you. I'm hearing you.
[1:31:50] Abby: I have any. I have more.
[1:31:52] Guest: Oh, go. Please.
[1:31:54] Abby: I have a few more. Now, this is not necessarily a grievance, but rather I was gagged. I was like, now wait a minute, because pause. Paradise by the Dashboard Light, losing to Survivor, I will survive. Now I'm not mad at it. I am not mad at it. But I was in fact shocked because Paradise, I mean, people, I mean, I mean, I don't have to say, you know what I'm saying? Because there are people who think that Survivor, I will survive didn't deserve to win over the New Directions yet it won over Paradise by the Dashboard Light was better than that whole New Directions performance is sectional. So it's like, okay, then what's anyways, that just we've had this exact conversation.
[1:32:24] Guest: I Yeah. Anyway, take care of yourself, Rory. I love that solo. But it winning against Come See About Me. I was a little shocked. I didn't think that would happen. I don't know who was in the room that day. I respect their decision because take care of yourself is this like cutie, but I would have chosen Come See About Me. I'm not really like, oh my god, I'm gonna shoot myself over it. But uh-huh. You know, I love love that for whoever chose it. Don't Rain on My Parade season one versus It's All Coming Back to Me Now.
[1:32:52] Guest: Say it. Well,
[1:32:57] Abby: now for Drumpf season one, I understand what we're going for. Sentimental, she comes in, they save the day. I'm there for it. It's All Coming Back to Me Now, though. A better vocal performance, I fear. It's just it's the same. It's kind of like the same story. But it's like, it's like the it's like we're coming full circle. And like, this is Rachel, like, when the red they wear red. That was well, yeah, she's in the red. I think it was like inverted. Actually, there's two performances because they're like inverted a little bit. She had a costume change.
[1:33:25] Guest: Oh, the Oh, I see what you're saying. Like, it's like it's a red, black dress with a red belt. And then exactly. Yeah, there's something there's something there, right? It's something about that. But I think it's all coming back to me now. I don't know. I would have I would have chosen that one. But I think maybe in the peer pressure of the moment, I would be like sentimental versus like, less sentiment. And that was a 50 50 in Instagram vote, right?
[1:33:54] Guest: Yes, it was like, what do we even do about that? That's just kind of when it comes to when it comes to like this, that current vote that's happening. And it's all coming back to me now. I'm like, okay, if it couldn't get past Drumpf, that could have happened in round seven. Yeah. But if it couldn't get past it now, I don't know that it's going to get past other songs of that magnitude later. And when the vote is 50 50, it's not even like there was like a larger number of people pushing for it. I just get worried about it. And it's not that I don't want it to be here. I do. I said I would have voted for it. But I might just have to let it go. And I haven't cast a vote. But I think I would cast a vote for officially the boy is mine in that round. Not ladies and tramp.
[1:34:34] Abby: The boy is mine. Boy is mine. For the bigger whenever Paul was mine. The boy is mine. The boy is mine. The boy is mine. I can't find the poll. I can't once I find it. Once I find this. I'm putting it in. I'm gonna make multiple patriotic guts just to vote.
[1:34:50] Guest: You're getting Oh, Eduardo did that. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, wow. You got money. Okay. The next one I have is for good versus one of us. I love one of us down like that is I love that song. I wouldn't. First of all, I didn't know for good was even I'm not gonna lie when it gets to that episode and Rachel and Kurt go to Gershwin theater and do whatever theater out whatever you're out. Why they want to do I skip it. I don't particularly care. So I would skip I didn't even know they sing for good until I watched wicked. And then I was like, Oh, for good isn't wicked. And then I was like, Oh, they sing for good on Glee. And I was like, Oh, that's what that song is. And then I didn't listen back because I was like, I don't I don't really want to.
[1:35:39] Abby: Abby just just maintain your Gleek card here. Do you believe that you've watched every minute of this of this hitbox show?
[1:35:45] Abby: I have I definitely have because there was a time where I was like, you cannot skip any songs. And it was like, I wanted to die because it was like Rachel solo after Rachel. So I was like, I'm getting tired of it. You know, it hits that point. But I have I definitely have it was just like the wicked songs and the Broadway songs in particular, if I didn't know them. I wasn't gonna like go out and reach for them either. Like even if I watched them. Yeah, I wouldn't like Oh, what's this song called? Oh, it's called freak because like in the episode, we don't know the titles of the songs. I would just watch and that's true. Yeah, I was never like looking for we do have, I believe just one musical song that's uh, there's four songs left in here.
There's only one that's from music. And if we want to talk about that for a second, I'm scared even though like the odds have gotten better. And I'm not worried about the results in a big way going forward. But I don't know, I would just love to be a part of, you know, our season six girly that's still here. But whichever matchup is not that one. Well, not to say that that's a foregone conclusion. But in my head, it might be. The other matchup is going to be interesting. There's three, you know, middle of the road candidates here. And at least one will go through. Uh, no, there's only one that's left. That's like, inherently bad to me.
[1:37:01] Guest: Oh, yes. And one that's like people are sleeping on. I'll say it. The bad one is as long as you're there. And the one that people are sleeping on is whenever I call you friend.
[1:37:04] Abby: The bad one is as long as you're there. See, I'm not wrong. I know I'm not I was trying to get myself in a place of like the consensus. I did see some as long as you're there love in the chat earlier. So I'm worried for you when that one comes up. This is my true feedback. Yeah. We'll see. We'll see. Can I make my official pitch for the big, big vote?
[1:37:27] Guest: For the big, big vote? Yes. Oh, I'm sorry, Abby.
[1:37:31] Abby: The boy's mind versus I feel pretty unpretty. I would have voted for the boy's mind, black history pulling a lot of leverage. And yeah, I mean, like, I mean, I get they're both iconic. I mean, it really just I think it really just comes down to what you prefer at the end, because I feel like, well, I think the vocals on the boy's mind are better. Objectively. Unfortunately, I think the storyline, I gave it to I feel pretty unpretty. What else is there to rank on sentimental vibes? I feel like beautiful they are.
[1:38:07] Guest: Everybody another matchup that round seven, truly.
[1:39:07] Unknown speaker: Honestly, it's a bunch of Kia songs to me. Irrelevant songs.
[1:39:10] Unknown speaker: The like, the only...
[1:39:11] Unknown speaker: No, no, no. Do you have a hard...
[1:39:14] Unknown speaker: Oh, no, no, I'm free. Oh, sorry.
[1:39:16] Unknown speaker: Okay.
[1:39:19] Matt: Um, Matt, what song are you campaigning for?
[1:39:22] Matt: Um, okay. So it's funny because the exercise did kind of change, right? So, whether or not it was going to be... Everybody picks their own song. So, you know, the official stamp of endorsement from me, which matters the most to anything, anything that we're doing here today. I'm sure, is for "Love Song." And I think we're all on the same page. And by we're all, I mean, a lot of us, which is a good thing. So everybody do get your votes in for "Love Song" when that vote opens up. But I will say, if for some reason you're like, no, I hate the joy between those three women and the episode "Naked." If you don't like that, and you can't compel yourself to vote for it, I would not mind seeing "How to Be a Heartbreaker" come in at least second place, get some votes. Are you laughing at me?
[1:40:06] Unknown speaker: No, we need to talk about something because I've been thinking a lot about round three, obviously. And I'm like, I think round three is like really when shit hits the fan. And I'm like, we really need to actually find the best song on Glee. Like, actually.
[1:40:19] Unknown speaker: Oh, yeah. We could get there by having...
[1:40:21] Unknown speaker: We actually need to get there.
[1:40:22] Unknown speaker: We actually need to, guys, seriously.
[1:40:23] Unknown speaker: We can't be fucking around anymore. This is not a joke. This is so fucking serious, guys.
[1:40:28] Unknown speaker: It's like, no, it's actually like, I'm not even joking around. It's very serious.
[1:40:31] Unknown speaker: Um, because like, we can't just like be voting for like, this is my favorite and she means so much to me. And I will continue to do that, obviously, because I am a hypocrite. But like, but I think that we should also really consider if certain songs have the ability to be titled the best song on Glee. So I don't think so. What I'm saying is like, "How to Be a Heartbreaker." I fear...
[1:40:56] Unknown speaker: Have a sit down chat with her.
[1:41:00] Unknown speaker: And you can sit down and tell her, congratulations, babe, you're going.
[1:41:04] Unknown speaker: Congratulations, baby, you're coming back.
[1:41:05] Matt: But I mean, look, again, no, I started with a pitch for "Love Song." This is just kind of the backup pitch because it should have gone on at least one more round. And there is, I even see in the chat, you know, a lot of love for "How to Be a Heartbreaker." It is just one of the most cinematic performances on the show. It is, it just has everything. It has a character that you don't even care about. So you're allowed to get mad at him while this is happening, while Rachel is stepping it up for season four, like drama, baby.
[1:41:40] Unknown speaker: Oh, I love Rachel in that performance. I will say that.
[1:41:42] Matt: So good. And it's just like, I don't know, it's just you can get into that song. And like this is a song just like many in the catalogue of the Glee cast covers songs that I didn't know the song beforehand. And being introduced to it through this specific theatrical lens that these two perform it in throughout the elevators in this hotel. Taking the elevators and then taking the stairs up.
[1:42:07] Matt: Just yeah, just it is. It is. It is good. It is great. So, you know, again, if you can't vote for "Love Song" because you can't find it on the poll, if something weird happens, if you can't find the poll, once I find that poll, yeah. I'm hearing you.
[1:42:25] Unknown speaker: Not agreeing, but you're hearing.
[1:42:26] Matt: I'm hearing you. Yes, definitely.
[1:42:29] Matt: Second, if it not "Love Song," I probably throw it to I mean, honestly, like, I feel like most of these shouldn't be titled like I feel like they lost for a reason. "Love Song" was "Love Song."
[1:42:40] Unknown speaker: What songs are you talking about?
[1:42:42] Matt: Like the list of like, like, yeah, but like, but like, which ones in particular are like, you're done? I mean, like, I see him on the world. It's like, okay, "How to Be a Heartbreaker." I was like, alright, whatever "Misery." Okay, you know, "Wishing, Hoping." Alright, okay, bye. But I'm like, not too heartbroken about them. I think the things I'd say on the second tier of "Love Song," I'd put "I Can Go for That," "You Make My Dreams Come True." I love her so bad. Does she deserve the crown? Absolutely not. But I would put my vote in for her. If I can't have you. Yeah, actually, if I can't have you would be there. "Born This Way." We're not talking about her.
[1:43:17] Unknown speaker: I think "Born This Way" like kind of like people are coming out of the woodwork matchup rally was tough. That was with I remember Allison being Allison Dodge and Connor.
[1:43:30] Unknown speaker: Yes. It was "We Are Young."
[1:43:30] Matt: Yeah. I just that that's such a funny matchup to me or like, interesting, but not like hard in the sense that like, either of them could have gone through and I would have been content. But "We Are Young" like for the emotional pull, right? Yeah, storyline and the you know, that beautiful clouds in the background. Those clouds are so I love those clouds. Oh, man. I want those clouds. I'm gonna paint those clouds. I have those clouds. You haven't seen Yeah, I've seen pretty clouds like that since last year. You guys want some clouds?
[1:44:01] Unknown speaker: Um, okay. Fantastic. Well, thank you for all of that. Are we ready for your first song?
[1:44:12] Unknown speaker: Yeah, please be "Damn It, Janet" or please be "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," please?
[1:44:18] Unknown speaker: Please, we still last song in round two. It's not neither. It's neither is it?
[1:44:23] Unknown speaker: I said it was one of them. You're lying. You'd be lying. I'm not lying. You're not.
[1:44:29] Unknown speaker: It's "Damn It, Janet" and it's "Damn It, Janet." Yeah, he would have had a better, more excited reaction. I can't read. Oh, wait, I didn't get to show I didn't get to show what I have. My outfit. It's a Finn jersey. Oh, I love this. Okay. I'm in honor of the Super Bowl.
[1:44:50] ⚠ About 4 minutes of audio could not be automatically transcribed.
[1:49:18] Andrew: Alright, did you get out your actual sad feelings? I'm like ready. I'm ready to give the—can I go a little bit longer? Yeah. I just like, what a stick in the mud. I'm like, I'm sorry. Could this happen like at any other time? I'm trying to enjoy this performance. And I'm just beaten over the head. I'm so sorry. I had to put the chat away because it was frankly distracting. So if anybody's getting mad at me, I just won't see it.
[1:49:46] Guest: I'll let you know. Alright, please let me know. I just like it just really takes me out. And it's like, I really want to talk to you about this because you're discussing the fact that Kurt is staring at them with like this angry look on his face. Sad, sad boy energy. Oh, yeah. And it's like for him also to be at the end of the performance to have like, crazy critique. And it's like, boy, you weren't even paying attention. Okay, that's after the performance. We're talking about the performance believer, right? And his role in this only makes it better for me just after how many seasons now of like, you know, how long are we how far away from the breakup? Are we that episode of like seeing this couple that like has a lot of issues arise along the way seem to be at two different stages of life?
Does this make sense for them to be endgame? And we're like getting down to it. You know, it's season six season, you know, who even knew if it was gonna happen? I don't know. I'm glad it happened specifically for this performance. And from the same episode, right? The hand in my pocket. I feel goaded episode. Yeah, so bitter, so bitter that they're proposed. Whatever.
[1:50:51] Andrew: Oh my god, he was on one this entire way. You take back everything I said earlier. I'm getting rid of you as a client. Yes. He is watching this young—not a couple yet. These two young people have a very beautiful song together. Obviously staring into each other's eyes falling in love while he's sitting there reflecting on his own love that he's not even sure where it is right now or where it's going to be going forward. And you know, it ends up in a good place until 2025 when you find out that they are exes. But right up until today, until today, it is so like Kurt, get Kurt out of here. I'm not looking at Kurt. I'm not thinking about Kurt. I'm thinking about these two beautiful people and their beautiful voices.
[1:51:41] Guest: Close your eyes if it's bothering you that much.
[1:51:48] Andrew: No, just listen.
[1:51:53] Guest: No, because imagine if you're talking about like any other performance and you were like, just close your eyes if you don't like it, then it's like that. That's part of the—that's part of the genetic makeup of this song.
[1:52:04] Andrew: No, it's like the Toxic season two would win over Toxic season five over time.
[1:52:14] Guest: That's true. Yeah. Sorry, Matt. Okay, fine. Keep your eyes open and just stay woke. Yes, look at Jane and look at Mason and look at their chemistry. Listen to their voices and look at everybody else.
[1:52:29] Andrew: Wait, I'm confused. Are you saying this song has points off because of the Kurt Klain of it all? Or is that what you're saying?
[1:52:36] Guest: Oh, I didn't know we were saying that. I just thought we were saying it was annoying.
[1:52:43] Andrew: Now, Matt, I understand where we're coming from. I didn't know that this was a conversation. I was a little lost. No, because I still really like it. I really love it so much. It's just, like, insulting. Again, I don't have the chat open, so I feel like maybe people are... I feel like Kurt is being a little bit of a Will Schuster in this moment, where it's like, he's not really... he doesn't give a fuck what the kids are doing. I mean, no, very Will Schuster, because he's about to take out his personal life and personal feelings on these kids who just did a great job with these kids. It's giving very much Mr. Schuster during "Only Exception."
[1:53:16] Guest 1: Oh, yeah.
[1:53:16] Andrew: Look, even if this song goes through in this matchup, I hope that we can form some kind of support group with myself and anybody else in the chat that needs this, knowing that Andrew's not going to let this get that far, hearing his- No! Unless he's outnumbered on every time this comes up going forward. I just... I just want to present... it's probably in my top 30 Glee songs, maybe. Like, I really do love it. Last night, in fact. Storytime, are you ready?
[1:53:46] Guest 2: Please.
[1:53:48] Andrew: I am... Elias is traveling for work, and so I have had the entire apartment to myself for the weekend. I stayed in last night, and I don't ever do this, but I was cleaning the apartment, and I was like, I'm going to have two cocktails, and they were like... I made them much stronger than they should have been. And so I was fucking drunk off my ass completely alone last night, listening to this playlist on repeat. And there was a point where I was listening to this song, "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow," "Head Over Feet." And I was singing along, much to my neighbor's dismay, I'm sure. And I don't know if you guys ever have this moment where you're singing along, and you're like, I'm hitting every single note.
[1:54:35] Guest 1: Oh, yeah.
[1:54:37] Andrew: Both parts. I'm like, wait a second. My vocals are going crazy right now. So it's a very visceral reaction, is what I'm getting at with this song in particular. I love it.
[1:54:51] Guest 2: You were, Kurt, envisioning yourself, just not the relationship aspect of it, because Elias is just gone for a couple days, but you were envisioning...
[1:54:58] Andrew: Like down the block, he's at Whole Foods.
[1:55:00] Guest 2: Right, yeah. The apartment to myself. You're envisioning yourself involved in the musicality of it all. And that's beautiful. That's what we should all do when we listen to this song and sing along. This is just an incredible performance. I can't say enough about it. I know I probably will have to stop saying good things about it, because you still have another song to pull, and then two more people to talk to, and then two more songs to pull, not to remind you.
[1:55:24] Andrew: Yeah, I'm aware.
[1:55:26] Guest 1: It is so damn good.
[1:55:29] Andrew: It is really good.
[1:55:29] Guest 2: I'm so happy that it came up here.
[1:55:31] Andrew: I enjoy it a lot. I think their voices are amazing. They blend really well together. They really could have been the It Girlies had we had another season. Unfortunately, we only had 13 episodes.
[1:55:43] Guest 1: Yeah, but this got an impact. Samantha Ware recently posted about Glee, right? Andrew, you reposted that.
[1:55:48] Andrew: She's so funny.
[1:55:50] Guest 1: What did she say?
[1:55:51] Andrew: I have a weird Instagram DM relationship with Samantha Ware. And this is usually after a few drinks where I'm just replying to her stories, like one sip of wine, and you're heart-reacting to everything. But she's very fun. We're very playful in the DMs, and I love her so much. I DMed her that I watched her Christmas movie on the Oprah Network, "24-Karat Christmas," which was actually really good. And also, I brought this up in a previous episode that her love interest in the movie was named Mason.
[1:56:32] Guest 2: Wow.
[1:56:35] Andrew: These two leading the show for another three seasons after this would have been good Glee.
[1:56:42] Guest 1: I agree.
[1:56:43] Andrew: Somehow it had shifted to like, these are the two leads of the Glee Club. I don't know what Madison is doing about this, the twin. She's not going to find herself.
[1:56:54] Guest 2: She's Tina, I fear. She becomes a new Tina.
[1:56:56] Andrew: That's what I'm thinking. If you want to win nationals, you put these two on your – you put them up front.
[1:57:01] Guest 1: And did they win nationals? They won nationals.
[1:57:03] Andrew: They did.
[1:57:03] Guest 1: They won nationals.
[1:57:04] Andrew: Don't you remember?
[1:57:05] Guest 2: Of course. Yeah, no.
[1:57:07] Andrew: Wait, no, that was "Chandelier." That was sexual, sexual, substantive "Chandelier." Okay. Do we have any final notes about this mashup?
[1:57:15] Guest 1: I have one question. It has nothing to do with the mashups. How much storage do you have in your computer? Because I've been wondering this.
[1:57:21] Andrew: Every time I come on, I'm like, how does he have all these things saved on his computer?
[1:57:24] Guest 2: It's on a hard drive.
[1:57:25] Andrew: It's on a hard drive. Beautiful. Thanks for answering that. That's so important to me.
[1:57:28] Guest 1: Of course.
[1:57:29] Guest 2: How much storage is like, 18 terabytes or something? Like, what's happening?
[1:57:33] Andrew: I remember I bought it years ago and I specifically got like, one of the biggest ones because I knew.
[1:57:39] Guest 1: That's amazing.
[1:57:40] Andrew: How I knew that it was a lot of storage I'll be filling up.
[1:57:43] Guest 2: How much is the Glarge Drive?
[1:57:44] Andrew: Yeah, Glarge Drive. And then also, I have just one legal note before we get to the second song here. Legal note, this is the winner of the Glackett. Legal note is that I never caught this before, but they pull out the same rug from "Keep Holding On" Season 5 for this number. And I don't know if we ever see this rug in any other performance besides those two.
[1:58:09] Guest 1: Yeah, you know, it was just like, hanging out on the side of the set. They were like, keep holding on last season. Let's bring up this rug.
[1:58:17] Guest 2: A lot of similar characters here. When you pan over and Quinn and Puck are there, I'm like, whoa.
[1:58:21] Guest 1: Oh, no, it's crazy.
[1:58:22] Andrew: It's quite the same.
[1:58:23] Guest 2: Whoa.
[1:58:24] Andrew: Same difference. Yeah. Okay, so, against it. Are we ready?
[1:58:29] Guest 1: Don't be damaged, Janet. Don't be damaged, Janet. Don't be damaged, Janet. Please, please, God.
[1:58:34] Andrew: It's not.
[1:58:35] Guest 2: Oh, thank God. She's going through.
[1:58:39] Guest 1: Don't say that.
[1:58:40] Andrew: I don't know. I don't know. We don't know. Let's see. What's next?
[1:58:45] Guest 2: Well, okay. So, if Andrew's saying that, then this is "Whenever I Call You Friend."
[1:58:50] Andrew: It is.
[1:58:52] Guest 1: I really wanted to get out of this place, you know? Spend my horizons. I don't think that's in the cards for me now.
[1:58:59] Guest 2: Well, listen, we have, what, a couple more Tuesdays at McKinley. Let's make them count. From now until graduation, Tuesday lunch is about music that'll cheer you up. Because the only thing you'll be doing next year is knitting scarves for those chilly Ivy League winters.
[1:59:13] Andrew: That's a really flimsy segue, Artie.
[2:00:03] ♪ Musical number: "Whenever I Call You Friend" — performed by Glee Cast ♪
[2:01:03] Guest 1: Was that the Sam Stunt Double doing the chair jump? Was that not really court?
[2:01:07] Guest 2: No.
[2:01:10] Andrew: Wait, let me pull it up back up. Where are you? Let me see.
[2:01:13] Guest 1: They cannot afford an actor falling off a chair like that.
[2:01:16] Guest 2: No. Wait, what are you talking about?
[2:01:21] Andrew: You know it. I feel like they let Artie jump into a pool.
[2:01:23] Guest 1: I feel like they-
[2:01:24] Guest 2: No, that was Ryder.
[2:01:25] Guest 1: Oh, was that Ryder? That's Ryder.
[2:01:26] Guest 2: But still, it's not Ryder.
[2:01:27] Guest 1: They'd let Ryder. They'd let Ryder do it.
[2:01:28] Andrew: I mean, Ryder could have let Ryder.
[2:01:31] Guest 1: But, you know.
[2:01:34] Guest 2: Ryder is so scary.
[2:01:35] Guest 1: No, in the terms of what he does in that choir room. It's like-
[2:01:39] Guest 2: He'd just be doing shit.
[2:01:40] Guest 1: Just be doing the most random shit. And I'm like, you need to stay away from me. Because I'm afraid I'm going to get hurt when you get hurt.

[2:01:55] Guest 1: Okay. Well, see, it's so cute. I think it's sweet. I think it's so sweet.
[2:02:01] Guest 2: It really is sweet.
[2:02:02] Guest 1: Tuesday lunches that we've never saw or heard of. But apparently they existed. And, you know, an homage to- I love when they reference the actors' real friendships in the show. I think it's very sweet. I think it's sweet, you know? I love that. I live for that.
[2:02:17] Andrew: This is a part of season- Sometimes this part of season five, it starts to feel like an SNL skit of Glee. Where the reactions and like, "Oh my god, we're having fun. We're such a family." It doesn't seem genuine and real. Like, I can't feel that palpable chemistry. I can feel we- There's shit going on behind. Like, the tension is there. It's just not good tension.
[2:02:39] Guest 1: Wait, do you really think that there's tension in this room?
[2:02:41] Andrew: I feel like they're all tired. I feel like it's been a heavy season. I feel like-
[2:02:44] Guest 2: Especially Kevin McHale.
[2:02:46] Andrew: Yeah, like they're coming 100 episodes straight. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's giving- It's giving like, we're clocking in, we're clocking out.
[2:02:53] Guest 1: I don't want to see-
[2:02:53] Andrew: Like, they're all phoning it in.
[2:02:54] Guest 2: Exactly.
[2:02:55] Andrew: They're phoning it in, smiling extra hard. And I can- You can like feel it. It kind of happens to me when I look at Clayton in season five. It just doesn't feel real. It feels like they just want to check and they want to go home.
[2:03:05] Guest 1: Well, not Darren. Darren's always 100% in.
[2:03:08] Andrew: But Christopher, on the other hand, he just wants to go home. Which- And that's- I can feel that energy. And maybe I'm wrong, but that's how it feels to me. That's how it comes off to me. Maybe it's the tans. I don't know what it is. But because of that, I feel like it's- Like, the song is so cute. But for me, it's a bit of a forgettable number.
[2:03:31] Guest 2: Yeah, it's forgettable to me too, which is unfortunate because it's a great sound of the two of them together. But when you're trying to close out or get to the end of this chapter of this group of Glee kids, especially the core group that have been there from the beginning and just happened to be a grade behind everybody else, so they're still here. And then we also kind of pull this Artie and Tina friendship super close back together, even though it hasn't always been that close. But you get it, especially for the actors' sake, giving them one of the final chances to do something together. It just feels like they could have done something bigger and better. But to Abby's point, and I think just the general idea here, is that it doesn't feel like even if they gave them something bigger, the energy or effort might have even been all there. Because it's just like, what are we still doing here? Why are we still at McKinley High?
[2:04:25] Guest 1: Abby, are you raising your hand?
[2:04:26] Guest 2: I'm raising my hand just to say that I don't think the chemistry is lacking from Kevin and Jenna. It's everybody else around them. I would have rather preferred them not being the fucking number, gonna be honest. The Glee Club, they could have stayed out of it. They kind of pissed me off. My girl wants to party all the time. What are we doing with bringing everybody in?
[2:04:43] Andrew: It becomes like, season five does this weird thing where everything is, what's it called? And Harlem Shake, what's it called? Everybody's dancing in the hallways.
[2:04:48] Guest 1: Ensemble.
[2:04:53] Andrew: They just all show up. And they're shaking in the hallways for some reason. It's like, okay, it was cute the first time, second time, third time, fourth time. Nothing is sacred anymore.
[2:05:00] Guest 2: Nothing is sacred anymore.
[2:05:01] Andrew: Let's keep, you know what I'm saying? But it gets to that point where it's just like, okay, the actors are here anyways. Let's just put them in another.
[2:05:07] Guest 1: Right.
[2:05:08] Andrew: They're getting paid. So we have to use them in some capacity. We have to put them in there. But I feel like Jenna and Kevin, Tina and Artie, they're cute because whatever, they have an actual friendship that's working there. I mean, not that nobody else is friends, but it's like, I can see, it's giving like-

[2:05:25] Guest 1: Yeah.
[2:05:26] Andrew: Not to say that there's any drama.
[2:05:27] Guest 2: No, no, no.
[2:05:28] Andrew: I'm just saying, it's giving like, in the background, it's giving court is probably like, why the fuck am I on set today? Like to dance around these people, like they had to do this for six, seven hours or whatever, three hours. But they don't really have a tangible part of this. It's just like, okay, like, this is some choreography. Like, let me, let me do a, let me do a backflip off of chair or something.
[2:05:43] Guest 1: Yeah.
[2:05:44] Andrew: Yeah. Sorry, Andrew. And so this is, sorry, am I going to steal your legal note? If I remind everybody, this is the 600th musical performance.
[2:05:52] Guest 2: I did write it down, but you can have it.
[2:05:54] Andrew: I'm just looking at the page. And it's like, that's even more unfortunate when you add that into the fact that this is so forgettable. Like, raise of hands or don't actually, like how many people in the chat saw the name of this song and the remaining songs and were like, what's that again?
[2:06:10] Guest 1: You are like leading, like, stop.

[2:06:16] Guest 1: Oh, people actually raising their hands.
[2:06:18] Andrew: No, no, no, no. I'm kidding. You're starting a revolution against everybody. Turn your cameras on. No, because I feel like I have to agree that like the, the cartoony-ness of the, of this number is to its fault.
[2:06:34] Guest 2: Marina, you're raising your hand.
[2:06:40] Andrew: People are, people are raising their hands. It's cartoony to a fault. It's, I agree, Abby, I wasn't thinking about you.
[2:06:48] Abby: Completely now you completely share the opinion that it should have just been those two because I do think that the celebration of having it be the 600th number that it is a landmark performance that I do think that they were more so celebrating these two characters that have been around yeah since season like since the pilot and like hey here here is their first duet nearly a hundred episodes into the series even though these are two characters that are very linked and it doesn't really make sense that it took them this long um and I think it's so I think it's so beautiful I think that um I think Jenna sounds like particularly when she's like good every moment there's a reason to care it's it's so and in it's like the the full mp3 you get a lot more Jenna the the tv edit really did her dirty um that she doesn't get like much oh right right I know your game um but yeah so I would have loved to actually see more Tina singing in the performance but alas um I just think it's really special I think they sound really great I understand that this is kind of like a parody it's almost like Glee porny um right um you know they had the Muppet version of Glee yeah it's like yeah right do that too I do want to know uh from the two of you if this had gone up against Dammit Janet or as uh long as you're there I'm like what song is um would you have voted it through I mean Andrew still might vote it through here but um Dammit Janet for me Dammit Janet would have won against this I have a I have a I have a like a one season one two three greater than four through six bias so whenever it comes to like middish songs I'm probably going to go for a one to three but in general I do think Dammit Janet's so cute so fun so fresh um so I probably would have chosen that anyways I feel like it's tough because Artie has been going through it on the Glacket lately like he needed a check-in yeah yeah I'm I'm sad for him because he doesn't deserve this uh but I also think I might have gone Dammit Janet but I probably would have given it to them over Sorry Sunshine but like I probably would have yeah that yeah I agree with the last one but the Sorry Sunshine sorry girl yeah I love you I don't actually know I I feel like I would vote for Dammit Janet over Whenever I Call You Friend um that's like it's really hard but like when we get to it there is Dammit Janet you'll see the performance doesn't end it kind of just like lingers on yeah um and then there's a conversation that happens after the it like in the performance so I don't know that's true that's a good point we'll leave that to the next the next team to tackle um okay but in terms of this vote here um you're locking it in oh it's locked in it's been locked in since I got this list of six great songs and I said if I see her she she was my number one um yeah sending on through will you love me tomorrow head over feet I wish her the best of luck I hope I can see her again at some point myself in round uh three because I know I hope this isn't the end of our story against Andrew's uh wishes and desires look at that smug smile Andrew has on his face very mischievous you know just uh we'll see but that's my vote my vote and before I go on to my vote I would just like to thank you so much for having me on oh my god this round and for all these rounds I've come on even though I come on and I'm clueless as fuck but you always need somebody who's kind of like out of it so like you need to be the voice of the people that are not as uh as don't know what's going on I have no um stake in the game but thank you for always inviting me thank you guys for always tuning in and thank you Andrew for always bringing us together for all this we appreciate you we love you I hope you get the the best mental health break that you need after this so that we can like you know get ready for round three because this is about to be fist because I was ready to go for my love is your love you're lucky I like you're lucky I love you it's a celebration I'm gonna keep the fist at home yeah yeah yeah so thank you uh for doing this I've always had a blast coming on I hope that I can come on tomorrow for round three and um unfortunately for you Andrew um will you love me tomorrow is going through a black history month we won sorry already but we're keeping it 100 percenter um yeah I thank you so much Abby I cannot tell you how frequently I'll get a dm or a message or whatever where people will be like so when's Abby coming back and I'm like again I'm about to be one of those people yeah um Andrew told me something like that I was like Andrew he was like uh do you want to come on the pod I was like yeah he's like the people are begging other people would want you I'm like Andrew you don't have to lie to me to get me on the podcast I'll come they go crazy um Abby I always love having I have I love having everybody here but um I will vote for I think I'm going to vote for will you love me tomorrow head over feets like still and like I know I could I what head of her feets head of her feet um yeah head of her feets feet still um that's what you heard um head of her feet still uh I I like I can I cannot deny the the experience that I had while singing in perfect harmony with with Jane and Mason last night Jason uh so yeah unfortunately whenever I call you friend doesn't have the juice yeah I'm gonna have to keep reminding you about that feeling you felt next time the song comes up in the black at Elias you gotta get the hell out of town because I need to be intimate yeah um need to be intimate with this song um okay well thank you so much Matt where can the Gleeks find you and uh the diary room well of course uh echoing the sentiments from Abby uh always a treats uh can't wait to talk some uh some stats and analytics uh before round two is officially gone but um if you want uh even more Glee podcasting besides all of this great stuff plus uh you know everything else all of our other fellow Glee podcasters have done the choir room archives are there if you want the full series everything everything everything um but the diary room yes we are doing this exact same project but instead of Glee songs we are doing uh Big Brother players if you're not a Big Brother fan uh the television show uh then you're not gonna care but if you want to start watching Big Brother and jump in on the podcast it has been a lot of fun um we are doing the same project but trying to find the best player in Big Brother history on the diary room and I also talk about the challenge uh the traitors anybody else watching the traitors uh turn your cameras on uh raise your I'm not up to date I'm not today I'm not yet though uh we're talking there we go people we're talking uh challenging traitors on the free agents podcast so uh check that out and any survivor sometimes not not usually usually like patron thing but yeah uh all the reality shows over there so that's that and uh thanks Andrew it's beautiful certified yapper people want to know Andrew what exactly is on your wall what what nails down a lot of comments like Andrew I need to get your attention Andrew I thought like something was happening I thought it was a bug on my screen a couple times it's actually in combination with uh harmonizing with uh Jane and Mason drinking and cleaning my apartment last night I was also reorganizing and so uh that is what you see right there is a piece of tape on the wall because I was like playing with like what I want to have behind me and now it's down it was a mirror but um I moved it have you always had it have you always sat next to a window I feel like that's relatively oh this is a new apartment Abby oh that's what I'm saying this is given sky rise okay week in the week palm money coming through I see no I understand mine was recorded in the video right in the window right behind you oh that's beautiful I'm glad for you I'm happy [2:15:25] Pat: How long have you both been I felt bad because I'm like you have the last how long have you been waiting um so the reason we have the last competition is because I had work today and I wasn't going to be done with work and I sincerely I couldn't get on until an hour after the the live stream started and I was so stressed I like work ended I grabbed my keys and was like bye everyone sprinted to my car crazy turned on the zoom in my car and y'all were watching whistle and I was like I did notice literally all the time like Ian already is here during whistle so since whistle but I've had a great time I've been enthralled thank you so much for being here really appreciate it Patrick how are you doing
[2:15:54] Ian: I'm good um Ian was it the case that you told everybody at rehearsal that you really had to go for some reason and people are like oh my gosh you know what's what's happening what are you in a rush to get to and you're like I have to guest on a Glee podcast that's not mine
[2:16:13] Ian: I said I have to find the best song on Glee it's imperative I did I was really they were doing um after work because I'm it's rehearsal I'm doing a show and they were having a cocktail tasting for the cast to find like what the show cocktail should be for people who are like coming to see the show and I literally left I skipped it and I was running out the door and someone was like you're not gonna see for the cocktail tasting and I said no I have to go to work at my other job which is fully not true it's just easier to explain that way and then he said what's your other job and I said I'm guessing on a podcast and then kept running
[2:16:48] Pat: I gotta talk about that much yeah I thought I'd go talk about Glee I was wearing my own podcast merch at rehearsal though so I love that that's perfect
[2:17:04] Patrick: I was I was spreading the good word to leaking on main to all the glee exactly Patrick are you wearing any Glee paraphernalia right now or
[2:17:15] Ian: I'm not I actually don't own any um but plug for all the new merch that you just launched um I'm definitely I like the brat Gleek one a lot I mean I felt so stupid for not doing that in the peak of when I could have done that but I was like oh this is a cute design it should live out there I've said it before too I really want from the first glerch drop I really want the mug oh I love the week mug so a little biased but it's it is a great mug when you um demo me uh my share of the streaming revenue from this episode I'll uh
[2:17:51] Abby: oh Patrick you're getting a mug um okay well talking about Glackett we're at the final competition of of round two which is really insane to say but since your last appearance which is only a few short episodes but um has there been anything that's happened that has really ground your gears
[2:18:06] Ian: is that Tamir to Ian or to both of us um Patrick I think that you have you have a story to tell do I really um okay well um well first of all uh all the other people who have been on this episode so far I've had the pleasure of talking to on an episode before except Abby and then now Ian so it's nice to virtually meet you Ian it's very nice to meet you too yeah I um Abby was so funny and I always think she's like one of the funniest people that's on this podcast because her takes are usually very spotless um and I was here for all of the your love is my love discourse because you're mad about this I don't know mad but um I remember Andrew you dm'd me and asked like what would your vote have been before uh you know like right after you recorded and I was like well obviously your love is my love and then I come to find out that it lost so yeah that one that one hurt a little bit or a lot of it um but I mean I think Abby did a great job of bringing up all the points for why it should have gone through where do you say with summer nights though you just don't like it as much
[2:19:30] Patrick: um I don't like it as much I I think you were actually saying this Andrew on the um during the episode or maybe one after that or maybe it was somebody else but the uh that's like a that's one that I really discovered later in my gleek life it really became a lot more important and fun to me randomly one day when I was watching the show for the upteenth millionth time and then I thought wait this song is so good so um I think that's a recent fave for me I like summer nights but yeah I think your love is my love would have been the one for me and um I think Connor and Claudia kind of said the same thing and then Abby said the same thing so everybody said the same thing I want to ask you Ian what would you have put through
[2:20:22] Ian: I'm gonna be so honest and I need everyone to okay never mind just no no no what I I'm not gonna say that I would have gone against your love is my love what I'm gonna say is dance with somebody as an episode for some reason is such a blind spot to me
[2:21:24] Unknown speaker: I was put in the position to choose between those two songs, to advance one, to neglect it. And again, I don't think I really have an emotional response to either one, but I do think that it's in my future, Patrick, that My Love Is Your Love, there will come a day when I'm like, oh, I'm finally awake. I see. I see the vision here.
[2:21:45] Unknown speaker: Well, you know, in the context of the episode, it's really cute because they all didn't have to be there. And then they were. And it's so cute. And this is what I'm missing. I don't remember that at all.
[2:22:00] Ian: I love how you say you're not qualified to talk on the topic when you literally have a Glee Podcast. You can find over two hours of me talking about that episode on Spotify. I don't remember what I said. It's been erased from my mind.
[2:22:16] Unknown speaker: I do. I do want to say one more thing, though. So on the topic of how I was agreeing with all Abby's takes, she had the right opinion on It's All Coming Back to Me Now, on The Boy Who's Mine. Those are all things that I really thought should have gone through. But I want to call her out for something because maybe I'm thinking too deep into this. I'm pretty sure she called me out for the logic that I presented on this podcast for why Paradise by the Dashboard Light should have beat the Survivor mashup. And so I was on her Instagram looking at her highlights stories, and there's an entire post about how Paradise by the Dashboard Light is the best New Directions number that they have ever done.
And I was hyping her up in the group chat that we have for prepping for this podcast episode. I was hyping her up in the chat, and I don't know, I felt a little called out. So I'm going to remember that. I hope me and Abby are not episode in round three. This is your soft plug for an episode with Abby.
[2:23:29] Unknown speaker: Betrayal. Like Abby, I have words. If you want to find out what happens with Abby and Patrick, tune in next season on The Glackett. Next time on Gleek of the Week.
[2:23:40] Unknown speaker: I saw in the chat someone said Claudia versus Eduardo in round three. They do have the most onstanding beef, which is crazy.
[2:23:53] Unknown speaker: Yeah, I don't have any other grievances though, in part because I was on just a few weeks ago. So I feel like all the grievances that I've had have been put out there. So I'm good on the grievance front.
[2:24:08] Unknown speaker: I love hearing that. You're good on the grievance front. Record timing. I love it. Ian, what do you think?
[2:24:15] Ian: I mean, I feel like the right decision has mostly been reached since I've been on last. I don't feel strongly enough about this. I feel a million ways about this. The Boy Is Mine, I Feel Pretty, I'm Pretty, I listen to The Boy Is Mine more. And I like Santana and Mercedes together more. But then I recognize that I Feel Pretty, I'm Pretty is the only Faberi duet in the entire show. And that is just such an iconic pairing. So I'm not mad about it. And I guess it should have gone through. But personally, I do like The Boy Is Mine better.
[2:24:51] Unknown speaker: That's exactly how I feel. It's like there's the cultural significance of it. But yeah.
[2:24:58] Unknown speaker: Wait, but then I think that like, what you're... Because I was hearing you out, Ian. That like, yeah, the Faberi, we only get that one duet. Whereas I think that we have, frankly, better San Sadie's representation.
[2:25:11] Ian: No, I know. It's like River Deep Mountain High is better. And that's in round three. So like, we'll all be fine.
[2:25:18] Unknown speaker: That's what I'm saying. I feel a million ways about it. And if I was on that episode, I like, maybe would have voted for I Feel Pretty, I'm Pretty. Just because that representation is important to me. And there are multiple Santana and Mercedes duets that all rock. That have a shot.
[2:25:36] Unknown speaker: Yeah. In the last episode with... Sorry, in the last episode with Lena, your other half, Ian. I thought it was really nice how she was talking about the different parallels. Or I don't remember the word she used. The different ways that the Gwacka could have gone. Because Andrew, you said that when...
[2:25:56] Unknown speaker: The Superman. Project people.
[2:25:58] Ian: Yeah, the Superman thing. That's how I feel about actually Pretty Unpretty. Because it should have lost to Faithfully. And I do say that confidently.
[2:26:10] Unknown speaker: And same. So then I think part of it is like, well, sad that the boy's mind had to fall to Pretty Unpretty. When Pretty Unpretty, as much as I like it. Didn't really have to be...
[2:26:25] Unknown speaker: Got by on the technicality is what you're saying?
[2:26:28] Ian: You could say that.
[2:26:31] Unknown speaker: Yeah. I'm fearful for I Feel Pretty Unpretty's round three matchup. It's... I think we're due for like a I Feel Pretty Unpretty versus Paradise. That would be... But also, there's so many mids in round three. And I think Pretty Unpretty beats all of them. I don't... I think Pretty Unpretty is an upper tier song. But Faithfully is also like an upper, upper tier song.
[2:27:00] Unknown speaker: I love her so much. Speaking about songs that we love, the assignment that I provided you of campaigning for a certain song to come on back. Are you following suit with the love song of it all? Or do you have a different opinion? Starting with you, Ian.
[2:27:17] Ian: Okay, I just assigned it to myself. It's starting with the one who started talking.
[2:27:23] Unknown speaker: Yeah.
[2:27:25] Ian: So famously, I did not like a love song out of the black gate on the first episode of round two.
[2:27:31] Unknown speaker: Wait, that was you?
[2:27:33] Ian: That was me. The original sin of round two was me. I'm telling you.
[2:27:40] Unknown speaker: Oh my god.
[2:27:41] Ian: I would say... I remember where I was. 90% of the matchups that get brought up all the time. It's all you.
[2:27:48] Ian: It's all me. It was me the whole time. It's the astronauts in space. And then it's just my face on earth. And he says it was all Ian. It always was.
[2:27:59] Ian: But I listened to that episode again today. Because I knew that everyone was going to be campaigning for love song. And I wanted to see... Because all of the controversial matchups, I mean, choices that I've made, I frankly stand by. Except that one is the one that I've been like, maybe that was a misfire. And maybe I feel differently about it. Because I listened to that episode. To set the score.
[2:28:20] Unknown speaker: Sorry. Set the score. You said it earlier in the episode. But it lost to If I Were a Boy.
[2:28:25] Ian: Yes. Yes.
[2:28:26] Ian: And when I listened to us talk about it again, we talked a lot about like... All four of us, I'm pretty sure, say like, we like the mp3 of Love Song more. Like we listen to Love Song more as a song. And it's the only time that those three women have a song together. And it's really special to us. But then we talk about the two songs in the greater context of the show. And how specifically, Love Song is like a really, really, really amazing rendition of the Sara Bareilles song. But ultimately, it's the Sara Bareilles song. Whereas If I Were a Boy is taking this song and giving it a completely new meaning. Completely like reinterpretation of the song. And obviously, it's like an incredible performance by Alex Newell.
And that was kind of my sticking point was, I feel like If I Were a Boy gets bonus points for completely reframing what the song is about and what it means by having it be sung by a trans woman. And so listening to that today was like, maybe I do stand by that.
[2:29:29] Unknown speaker: No, the way that you're retelling this right now, I'm kind of on board with the decision in a crazy way.
[2:29:34] Ian: Yeah. Yeah, like I kind of do stand by that. And that it's just unfortunate that it happened literally the first episode of round two when Love Song should have gone on. But since Love Song should have gone on, I am saying there is a chance to have If I Were a Boy and Love Song in round three. Again. And people will stop being mad about me. But much like Matt said, and he was like, if you're not going to do Love Song, do this. If you don't want Love Song in round three, I have a special place in my heart for Uninvited. It's probably like top five Rolos for me, maybe top three. I love that song.
[2:30:08] Unknown speaker: Third only to you're saying Droppin' My Man? Or what are you saying?
[2:30:13] Ian: Maybe fourth, because I would think probably All Coming Back is maybe above it too.
[2:30:19] Unknown speaker: Okay.
[2:30:19] Ian: So I guess like it's number four for me. Still a really great spot. I like love that song. And specifically, I think it brings out a side of Lea Michele's voice that is not showcased very much on the show. And it's also such an exciting way to start season six. Oh my gosh, all her dreams are falling apart. I love Uninvited.
[2:30:39] Patrick: Were you in Uninvited?
[2:30:41] Ian: Yeah, we killed Uninvited.
[2:30:44] Unknown speaker: That might have been the case.
[2:30:46] Patrick: Yes.
[2:30:47] Unknown speaker: This is so funny how this is happening. You put through freaking Rio. This is like Love Song, Uninvited.
[2:30:53] Ian: Yes.
[2:30:54] Unknown speaker: And Patrick, I literally remember where I was when you cut Uninvited from the clacket.
[2:31:01] Patrick: Wait, location reveal. Where were you?
[2:31:03] Unknown speaker: Well, oh, I was on, this is when I was working on a cruise ship. And we were on a bus, I think from the ship to the airport, because we were going home. And the bus broke down on the side of the freeway in Florida.
[2:31:19] Patrick: And so did you.
[2:31:20] Unknown speaker: And so did I. And I was sitting on this broken down bus, looking at the ugly Florida landscape, hearing them kill Uninvited.
[2:31:28] Patrick: Wait, now I need to know, Patrick, where were you when Love Song left?
[2:31:32] Patrick: I was in my room.
[2:31:34] Unknown speaker: Likely place to be.
[2:31:35] Patrick: But I remember I was folding laundry. And actually, for the Love Song one, I do remember that it was with two other guests for some reason. I thought it was the time machine or the time mouse people.
[2:31:49] Unknown speaker: No, it was Recovering Gleek.
[2:31:51] Patrick: Okay.
[2:31:52] Unknown speaker: So, you know, with Love Song, I'm not mad that it lost to If I Were a Boy. I think that there's a lot of merit to the arguments made. And intellectually speaking, for sure. What is what is pissing me off is that Love Song didn't come back when it had the chance to get revived the first time. That is crazy. I can't even remember what came back.
[2:32:21] Ian: Yeah. No, that's crazy for that song. That's crazy.
[2:32:24] Unknown speaker: I agree with Patrick on this one. So and it's crazy because that was the second time that Blame It On The Alcohol was voted back. Girl, take a hint. Leave the party. We don't want you here. The lights are on. We're like up in bed sleeping. Come on, girl. Go home.
[2:32:43] Patrick: No, I love you so much, Blame It On The Alcohol. I do really love you.
[2:32:47] Unknown speaker: Go ahead, Patrick.
[2:32:49] Patrick: Yeah, Andrew, I do remember though, when the Love Song competition was happening with If I Were a Boy, you were kind of in a mood, right? Because like you, you wanted to fight for it, but like you couldn't or something. Like you were, you were like really upset about it. And I feel like truly what you wanted was Love Song. And you could have rallied the Gleeks a little harder and you didn't. So that's what I remember from that.
[2:33:16] Andrew: Well, that was first episode of round two again. And I think it was like giving very much first day of school vibes where I'm like, Right, you were a little nervous. A little nervous. I was like, I don't want to, I don't want to like cause a stink going into round two. And like, I want to be really, really normal about blacketing. And so like, oh, yeah, that's okay. If Love Song is leaving. Sure. You know, you literally start it out. You before you play Love Song, you say, I just want to say that the first time I came up with the idea for the Glackett and did it by myself.
[2:33:44] Unknown speaker: Oh, this was one of the three winners of the Glackett. And then you played it. And then we kicked it out round two. That was Glistery. And you know, the dark side of Glistery, if you will. So Love Song is also mine. But I guess I'm the uninvited thing. Sorry. I don't know. I do feel like I haven't had many competitions where people are upset. I think most of mine have been no brainers. But yeah, people always bring up uninvited. So to everybody who's upset about that, I say, I see your point. But you know, what's done is done. And she was uninvited to the Glackett. Get over it.
[2:34:26] Unknown speaker: They need more Alanis on this show. They only did Alanis one time and then two halftimes.
[2:34:33] Unknown speaker: Yep, right. That is all within a three episode span, which is crazy. And like, yeah, the fact that, um, oh my god, I'm blanking on it. Carole King. You ought to.
[2:34:41] Unknown speaker: Oh, yeah. Carole King got two songs just to herself in Jagged Little Tapestry. But where was the Just Alanis song? Where was You Oughta Know? Alanis' most famous song. I know that people are coming at me right now with the legal note of it all. I know that it was initially supposed to be a Quintina duet.
[2:35:29] Andrew: If I had to pick a second one, I feel like I've said my piece about "Come See About Me," so I guess I'll go with "Science Fiction Double Feature." Not because of the performance, but because my personal favorite line in all of Glee is when Mercedes is recruiting Santana to the Glee Club. And she says, "How many solos did you have last year?" A few. One, "Valerie," and I loved it. And Santana says, "I was also the lips in Rocky Horror." That is my favorite line in all six seasons of Glee. I do want Carousel Edition just to be you dubbing that part. So look out for that. All right, I'm down. But I'll go for that one. But I'm actually really happy with most of how round two of The Blackett went. But Alison Dodge said something that I think really resonated with me when she was on last saying, "Gleeks, this is how it's gonna be. Like, it's gonna start being harder."
[2:36:38] Guest: Yeah, the real world. Because there were a few competitions of late that I've been so fired up about. And that's how I think a lot of round three is going to go.
[2:36:51] Andrew: Surely, yeah. After the break, I'm certainly looking forward to seeing some of the crazy mashups that happen, because I think people's real opinions and—
[2:37:00] Guest: The real stuff will come out.
[2:37:03] Andrew: Get ready to meet the real Andrew. And I think it's gonna get a little, to quote Harmony, it's gonna be a bloodbath.
[2:37:09] Guest: It is going to be a bloodbath. It feels very much like your teacher being like, they don't allow this in sixth grade. Once you get to sixth grade, they're not going to put up with this. Like, you know what happens in college, if you're late to class, they tell you to go home.
[2:37:26] Guest: Right. That's what's gonna happen in round three. Go home.
[2:37:31] Andrew: Okay, so what are we manifesting?
[2:37:36] Guest: I actually been thinking a lot about this. And I would really love to talk about "As Long As You're There," the Glee original song from New York.
[2:37:44] Andrew: Oh, yeah, I wasn't even thinking about that. Yeah.
[2:37:46] Guest: It's a bit of a dark horse, but it means a lot to me.
[2:37:49] Andrew: That's a good one.
[2:37:50] Guest: Okay.
[2:37:51] Guest: I'm hoping for "Valerie" or "Survivor" mashup. I love that one.
[2:38:03] Andrew: Okay. I'll have to check in the back to see if we have that. But yeah. All right. Let's see.
[2:38:10] Guest: Oh, not what you wanted, Ian.
[2:38:15] Ian: I hope it's at least what I wanted.
[2:38:17] Guest: "Rocky Horror Glee Show." Please, please, please.
[2:38:19] Ian: It is. Oh my god. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[2:38:22] Guest: That's crazy.
[2:38:23] Ian: Is it a "Science Fiction Double Feature"?
[2:38:25] Guest: It is!
[2:38:28] Guest: Hey, Janet.
[2:38:30] Guest: I've got something to say.
[2:38:35] Guest: I really love the skillful way you beat the other girls to the bride's bouquet.
[2:38:44] Guest: Oh, Brad.
[2:39:15] Guest: One thing to say, and that's damn it. Janet, I love you.
[2:39:22] Guest: Here's a ring to prove that I'm no joker.
[2:39:28] Guest: There's three ways that love can grow. That's good, bad, or mediocre.
[2:39:38] Guest: Oh, J-A-N-E-T, I love you so.
[2:39:46] Guest: Oh, it's nicer than Betty Monroe had.
[2:39:50] Guest: Now we're engaged, and I'm so glad that you met mom and you know dad.
[2:39:55] Guest: I have one thing to say, and that's Brad, I'm mad for you too.
[2:40:03] Guest: You can still hear them.
[2:40:04] Guest: Oh, actually, that's where I cut it off.
[2:40:08] Andrew: I was really, I was so pleasantly surprised because I was like, oh, I hope he doesn't cut it off before you can hear them singing through the door. I'm so surprised that I made that choice in 2021.
[2:40:16] Guest: Yeah, interesting.
[2:40:18] Andrew: I was getting ready to say, shut up, let them keep singing.
[2:40:24] Andrew: Um, all right, what do we think about "Damn It, Janet"?
[2:40:26] Guest: Remember how Lea Michele did this at the Hollywood Bowl with Matthew Morrison as Brad?
[2:40:32] Guest: Um, I, that is kind of a blind spot for me. I totally blocked that out of my memory, but feel free to remind us.
[2:40:42] Andrew: Yeah, baby. I mean, the reason I thought about it is because as much as many people feel some type of way about Rachel Berry getting every solo, including me, she was so right for Janet. I do think she eats this role up. And so I'm sure that Lea Michele also did a great job when she did the whole show with Matthew Morrison back in the day.
[2:41:00] Guest: When was it?
[2:41:01] Andrew: It was like season one. I think it was 2009 that it happened.
[2:41:04] Guest: Oh, really?
[2:41:05] Andrew: Huh?
[2:41:05] Guest: Yeah.
[2:41:06] Andrew: That is so fast.
[2:41:07] Guest: With her ex-boyfriend, Matthew Morrison.
[2:41:10] Guest: Ex-boyfriend, Matthew.
[2:41:12] Guest: They really got together for that long.
[2:41:13] Guest: There's a pic of them kissing from it.
[2:41:17] Andrew: Okay.
[2:41:19] Andrew: We got any, we got any Shoeberry fans in the house?
[2:41:23] Guest: Hell yeah, brother.
[2:41:25] Andrew: Oh, we got a Shoeberry head in the house. All right, what do we think about this rendition of "Damn It, Janet," though?
[2:41:34] Guest: I really like this one because I think this is as much as Rachel is a good fit for Janet. I think Finn is a great fit for Brad. I think it's really fun. I think Finn and Cory do really, really, really good in this number. And this episode isn't one that I rewatch a lot. For some reason, I always skip around to my rewatches. And I don't tend to play this one too much. Even though I do like Rocky Horror a lot. So every time I do watch this number or hear this song, I'm always pleasantly surprised and really happy to listen to it. Because I think that they do a good job.
[2:42:15] Guest: Ian, to the point that you made earlier about wanting to listen to them through the door. I also like that part. Because I always try to not pay attention to what Sue and Will are talking about and really try to listen in. And just the chorus of the song is really great. So yeah, I'm a fan of this one. I think it's fun. And I don't have a ton to say, though, other than I like it quite a lot. How about you guys?
[2:42:43] Guest: I think it's one of the best Finchel duets for me. I think that this, gosh, without looking at a list. It's really underrated, I think, yeah. I think, obviously, "Faithfully" is right up there. But this is not too far behind, though, for me. I really like "Borderline," "Open Your Heart," and this. I think that might make up the top three. "Don't Go Break My Heart." Also perfect. But yeah.
[2:43:10] Guest: I like their duet, "Swan."
[2:43:14] Guest: Yeah.
[2:43:15] Guest: "With You, I'm Born Again."
[2:43:16] Guest: "With You, I'm Born Again."
[2:43:17] Guest: "With You, I'm Born Again," baby.
[2:43:19] Guest: Come on. Not on the glacket, it would be too powerful. Someone actually brought this up in the chat earlier. And I agree with them. Early season two Finchel is my favorite Finchel. Season one, it's the will they, won't they. And then season three, it's the they're getting teen married. Early season two, when it is just, they're together and they're healthy for that first few batch of episodes. And we get to see what their dynamic is. And the club is really special to me, specifically in duets. I just think it's so fun how they're puppet mastering the Glee Club to try and get saved. Stay. But I think this song really exemplifies that. And especially, I think something that Finn really loves about Rachel is how she is so passionate about something that he is embarrassed that he enjoys.
And so for him to see that Rachel, openheartedly, proudly with her whole chest, loves performing, and he has been so afraid of people making fun of him for performing. I think it's really special to see in this episode, being around Rachel and being in a relationship with her has brought him out of his skin enough that he's having so much fun in this number.
[2:44:32] Guest: I totally agree with Patrick. I think he's a fantastic Brad. And he is so silly and so dorky and having such a great time and stumbling all over himself. I think it's wonderful. I think he's a sweetie cutie in this episode. I have gone on an emotional journey with the Rocky Horror Glee Show. But I think it has, of all the tribute to like a musical episodes that Glee does, I think it has the best performances. I think every number in this episode is really, really good.
[2:45:07] Guest: And this is no exception. It's also condensed, you know, like all the other musical ones are kind of drawn out along a bunch of different episodes. And this one is kind of like really powerful. They really had to keep it right. They do so much. I was thinking like while watching this that like there's so much ground that's covered within this 45 minutes. Like even just like the Mercedes casting of it all. That like she's like at this point in the episode, she's one of the Magentas. She's one of the Columbias.
[2:45:38] Guest: Oh my god. This is actually something I talk about all the time.
[2:45:42] Andrew: I'll finish your thought. I apologize.
[2:45:44] Guest: And then I will enter.
[2:45:45] Andrew: No, I know that I just like to the song's credit that I think it's like, I just think it's impressively done. Like the amount of like casting misfires that happen all within this one episode.
[2:45:57] Guest: Your turn.
[2:45:58] Guest: I am a Rocky Horror fan fan fan. I love Rocky Horror. And all the characters are great. It's bonkers crazy to me that Will is like, so we have too many women for the parts that are in the show. So I'm going to take Janet, the female lead who has like two songs just to herself and then is featured in like three other songs. And I'm going to give it to just Rachel. And then I'm going to take Columbia, who has like a solo verse in two songs. And that's it. And I'm going to split her between three different girls. Like, why were you not double casting Janet? And then having just Brittany be Columbia because Columbia is of the leads. And I love Columbia of the female lead. She's the smallest one. It's just silly and dumb to me that there are three Columbias in this production.
[2:46:52] Andrew: That is like a really good take. And I've never heard that before. And I really like it. Like if you're double booking, if you're triple booking. Double book Janet.
[2:46:59] Guest: Yeah.
[2:47:00] Andrew: She's the one that's got all the stage time.
[2:47:02] Guest: Right.
[2:47:02] Andrew: Yeah. Meanwhile, we're cutting up Brittany and Tina on "Time Warp."
[2:47:06] Guest: Yeah.
[2:47:07] Andrew: Yeah.
[2:47:08] Guest: Yeah.
[2:47:10] Guest: We really had to make sure that John Stamos had a lot of time in that episode, though, for some reason.
[2:47:17] Andrew: For "Hot Potato."
[2:47:18] Guest: So, yeah.
[2:47:20] Guest: Yeah.
[2:47:20] Andrew: Yeah.
[2:47:21] Guest: To sing "Hot Potato."
[2:47:22] Andrew: Wasn't a fan of that part.
[2:47:25] Guest: Oh, you didn't like that part?
[2:47:28] Guest: I have my issues with him, but I digress on the Splee podcast. I know that Alison Dodge also really has some qualms with John Stamos. I don't feel like particularly either way about him. But I know that people really don't like him.
[2:47:44] Andrew: I do your research, people. That's all I'm going to say.
[2:47:48] Guest: All I'm going to say. Even though did I go to San Francisco last weekend and look at the Full House houses? Absolutely.
[2:47:54] Andrew: Heck yeah.
[2:47:55] Guest: But that wasn't just for John Stamos. That was for the—
[2:47:57] Andrew: No, no, no. That was for Stephanie Tanner.
[2:47:59] Guest: Yeah, right.
[2:48:01] Andrew: Where do we go from here in the conversation?
[2:48:03] Guest: Oh, I have, I have literally so many thoughts. I'm so sorry. This is actually the most annoying song to have been pulled while I'm on the podcast.
[2:48:11] Guest: No, this is perfect. I just have a lot of thoughts about Glee doing Rocky Horror. One specific to this number. Adorable. I really, really, really enjoy this number. And this is not actually a critique. I just always find it funny. I assume that Will has blocked this number. They've rehearsed it and now they're running it. So if they're blocking this number to do in the auditorium, why is Finn running up the choir risers between the chairs? And why is he writing a heart on the whiteboard? Those things aren't going to be on the stage in the auditorium. What's going on?
[2:48:44] Guest: Very interesting.
[2:48:48] Andrew: It's just silly. It doesn't actually bother me. It's just fun to think about.
[2:48:51] Guest: It's just fun to think about. I'm thinking about it now and it's fun.
[2:48:56] Guest: My other, my other big thought. I love this number and that's kind of my only like note on this number. Besides that, I think everything else is really.
[2:49:04] Andrew: I love the "I love you" that it's like points to the eye, does a heart, and points. I love how deadpan the servants are with it, Janet, and they all look pissed off. Very special to me. I have, as I mentioned, had a lot of ups and downs with this episode as an episode, and we've reached a peace treaty. We are cordial now because I love the performances so much, and I think it's like a really fun Halloween theme to do a Rocky Horror episode. I also understand that Rocky Horror is really popular among people who are kind of on the outskirts of society, and Glee really likes to see itself as a show for people on the outskirts of society. But it's so crazy that these adult teachers were like, "Um, a show about sexual liberation and sleeping with other people and coming to terms with your own sexuality that has a lot of this sexuality being expressed on stage?
Let's do this with our 16 and 17-year-old students." But it's an entire plot of like Mr. Schuster just wanting to get with Emma. Yes, and so on the Will thing, I'm like, "Cool." And this is why I've reached a peace treaty because the episode is lampshading that the whole time. It's like Will's really stepping in it, and Will is really getting his priorities skewed, specifically the John Stamos of it all. I'm like, "So why is he in it?" He does have a few off-handed comments where he's like, "Isn't that kind of like a racy show to be doing with kids?" But I want him okay with it because I like the performances and I like the episode, but I also can tell the writers are trying so hard to justify doing a Rocky Horror episode in Glee in a high school.
So they have all these moments where John Stamos and Emma are like, "This seems a little weird," and then five seconds later, like, "But I'm into it now, who cares?" Well, it's all okay in the end though because they all perform it just for Will. Yes, because I do agree with that. It's one thing to express your sexuality to a room full of like 100 people where multiple adults are present and can testify to what's going on, but to do it just for your teacher alone in a room where there's no other witnesses, I think is definitely okay and not problematic at all. Totally, it's a great resolution. We're finally talking about this on this podcast because I don't know, I feel like the Gleeks don't think that's okay, but why? But it is. I have to be so real, lost me for a little bit in the middle there. I looked at the chat for just a little bit and I was like...
[2:52:02] Guest 1: The chat was cracking me up, I'm not gonna lie.
[2:52:06] Andrew: Oh, they're very hot, it's popping off. Do you have much opinion about this song?
[2:52:10] Guest 2: I don't know, I really do love it, and I think that it's like, I think that's only second to like "Sweet Transvestite" in terms of like songs in this episode. Is that crazy to say?
[2:52:17] Andrew: You aren't putting "Time Warp" up there?
[2:52:19] Guest 1: What one of the chat said, Quinn's best solo. And I think like, you know, I sincerely, Patrick, think that "Time Warp" might be my favorite Quinn solo in the entire show. I'm so serious.
[2:52:28] Guest 2: Really? And the fact that she's having so much fun too.
[2:52:33] Guest 1: Well, she's having so much fun like this entire episode too, which is like crazy for...
[2:52:40] Andrew: Grammy for that actually. She won, right?
[2:52:43] Guest 2: She did. Performance, yeah, she got Best New Artist too.
[2:52:48] Guest 1: Best New Artist, Quinn? Wait, how have we not done a carousel or something about like the Grammys and Glee? Have either of you guys done that before?
[2:52:53] Guest 2: I have.
[2:52:54] Andrew: What do you need to... You need to paint the carousel for me. What are you suggesting specifically?
[2:52:59] Guest 1: I don't know. Well, I think the Grammys were just recently, and I think there were a lot of memes from it, so I was thinking how to make it Glee related. But the idea of like Quinn Fabray winning Best New Artist for her performance in Rocky, that's gonna be a carousel for this episode.
[2:53:16] Andrew: Yeah, okay, yeah, okay. But I really do love this. Yeah, I guess like "Time Warp," depending on the day, I still think that like "Sweet Transvestite" is still locked in for number one.
[2:53:28] Guest 2: Well, okay, I hear you, but consider that moment in "Time Warp" when Quinn goes, "Yeah, just based out on sensation, ow!" Yeah, come on.
[2:53:36] Guest 1: I know, I... You know what? But I think it's recency bias just because we just watched this. I'm like, "Oh, this is fresh on the mind, I'm really liking this." I do... The more you made a very valid argument, I think "Time Warp," I guess, would take that number two slot, wouldn't it?
[2:54:02] Andrew: The Glee version of "Time Warp," sorry, go Patrick.
[2:54:05] Guest 2: Oh, do you guys not like the unreleased Mike Chang version of "Sweet Transvestite" though on the dark web? Because he was supposed to play that role, wasn't he? Or am I getting it?
[2:54:15] Guest 1: No, he was indeed. He was, yeah.
[2:54:18] Andrew: So you guys haven't seen his version?
[2:54:21] Guest 2: Oh, you guys haven't seen it? Oh, that's my favorite.
[2:54:26] Guest 1: Oh, is it really that great?
[2:54:28] Guest 2: Yeah, it's really good.
[2:54:32] Andrew: Even though we're in a live episode, okay, so sorry, go ahead Ian.
[2:54:39] Guest 1: What was I gonna say? Oh, the Glee version of "Time Warp" is genuinely my second favorite version of "Time Warp" that exists in the world. I think it's amazing. Second only to the Broadway revival starring, oh my gosh, it's Mimi from Rent as Magenta. Literally every name I've ever learned is escaping me right now. Raul Esparza is Riff Raff, and then Mimi, who I can't remember the name of, forgive me, is Magenta, and then Joan Jett is Columbia. Oh, instead of doing a solo, she does a guitar solo. It's fucking awesome. I love that version. It's really good. You can find it on YouTube. It's a fun watch. Little plug, I love it.
[2:55:21] Andrew: Esparza like gave himself vocal nodules during that performance. He's really screaming.
[2:55:26] Guest 2: Wow, amazing. Hey, hey, do we have any final notes about "Damn It, Janet"? We've really spent our time talking about this girl.
[2:55:35] Guest 1: Yeah, I have a lot to say. I love her a lot. No, but I loved every second of it. Are we ready for the final song of round two?
[2:55:47] Andrew: Oh, a little prayer before? Yeah, could we get a palate cleanser? Say a little prayer for the Blackhead. Do we know what this is?
[2:55:54] Guest 2: We do know what it is. Are you joking?
[2:55:57] Andrew: And you just gave me a trick.
[2:56:01] Guest 1: We know what song this is.
[2:56:02] Andrew: Push it.
[2:56:08] Guest 2: Can I ask? Push it's out of the Blackhead, right? What did it lose to?
[2:56:12] Guest 1: Push it lost to "True Colors" in round one.
[2:56:19] Andrew: Oh, I can see that. I don't agree, but it's not something I am upset about.
[2:56:24] Guest 2: Okay, well, this is the last song, you guys. This is Andrew. I guess since this is your baby, the Blackhead, how are you feeling?
[2:56:30] Andrew: Yeah, you can't play this. You have to have a moment of reverence.
[2:56:39] Guest 1: Okay, fine. Do you want me to be sentimental?
[2:56:41] Andrew: Yeah, yeah, I will. I prepared something. Oh my gosh, she's pulling out a phone.
[2:56:49] Andrew: No, no, no. I mean, I just, I was like, I feel like I'm, I'm like, again, I'm like nervous, but like nervous excited in a way that I've never been actually like nervous doing this right now, like doing an episode recording. But it's just like, it feels like I'm very like happy. So don't feel bad that I feel nervous. I'm very excited to be here. Okay, where is my whoo? So we're doing this in front of the final song of the episode, end of round two. Should I be now? Is it weird to be sentimental?
[2:57:25] Guest 2: No, just do it.
[2:57:26] Andrew: Definitely not. Alrighty, so this is me being sentimental. And to put it into terms I know you'll understand, let me bring it back to the hit Fox show Glee. In the series finale, when Rachel accepts her Tony, she says, "Being a part of something special does not make you special. Something is special because you are a part of it." For the longest time, I truthfully never understood what the writers meant by that or what she was talking about in the pilot. It's like I understand the words, but I'm not really fully grasping the idea. And it wasn't until I had the great pleasure of getting to know so many of you that I realized that it is all of you who make this entire corner of the internet very, very special.
What would otherwise be a very lackluster task of finding the best song on Glee is now exciting and fun and the highlight of my week to chat and learn more about you and why this show means so much to all of you specifically. And I have extra cheese unless is that too much?
[2:58:32] Guest 1: No, or give us extra cheese.
[2:58:36] Andrew: But this is really bad. I wrote it and I'm like, this is actually like really... It's not at all.
[2:58:43] Guest 2: Are you kidding me? No, this last part is...
[2:58:46] Andrew: Since I'm already being cheesy, I might as well add on this extra cheese. I forget when it was, but at some point, probably three years ago, Alice and I coined the term "glistener" for all of you Glee listening, which I realized over time has a double meaning. In addition to Glee listening, you also all glisten in your specific way, and I'm so glad to have this community so we can quite literally glisten together. Thank you so much.
[2:59:09] Guest 1: That was lovely. That was so nice, and the chat was really, really kind and giving you lots of praise and love, Andrew, so I hope you can read some of those messages because they were really...
[2:59:20] Andrew: I am seeing the little previews come up, yes. Yeah, and what a great little message there. Definitely one of my favorite corners of the internet. Thanks for all that you do. This is so great, and it's an honor to be a part of the last competition.
[2:59:33] Guest 2: Oh my gosh, it's an honor to have you, all of you, truthfully. It's like, oh my god, meant every word. Vibes, I'm gonna cry later, but...
[2:59:47] Andrew: Alright, last song of the episode, last song of the round. Are we ready? Anything?
[2:59:53] Guest 1: Yeah, it really could be anything.
[3:00:00] Andrew: Ian, it's actually the song that you manifested.
[3:00:02] Guest 2: Oh my god, what are the odds? I'm on fire tonight, that's crazy.
[3:00:13] ♪ Musical number: "As Long As You're There" — performed by the Glee Cast ♪
[3:01:38] Andrew: Alright, she was tearing up. She's like, "You're gonna find me in the audience. You're gonna find me." I love the idea of a good person of sunshine scanning the audience, just being like, "Alright, where the hell is she?" Just like looking up and down the entire theater for like the entire first half of the performance. "As Long As You're There," a song that I feel like I've heard in like, you talk about a lot recently because I know that you talked about all the Nationals episodes, but then I feel like I also heard you talk about it in another forum, another episode.
[3:02:06] Guest 1: Yeah, and I don't know. I feel the same, and I'm kind of like, why did that get brought up?
[3:02:13] Andrew: We for sure just did the Nationals episodes like a month or two ago, and we talked about it then. I literally have no idea at one time. Lena was taking a hiatus from the podcast, and my brother came on, and we watched New York and Rocky Hercules show and talked about them. So there's that. I don't know when it came up again, but I famously like really don't like this song.
[3:02:32] Guest 2: It was better that time.
[3:02:34] Andrew: It was better that time. It's so weird to be like critical of like any Sunshine songs because like they're all like so good. Yeah, it feels like bad to be like, "But not you."
[3:03:11] Andrew: It's just I think my biggest gripe with it is the fact that it's like a hidden original song and like it would have been so much maybe I'm simply borrowing or stealing this thought that you had already projected and I'm manifesting it as my own right now but I feel like it would have been much more exciting if like Vocal Agenda was like oh they're doing original songs let's like beat them on their own turf their own idea yeah and yeah they don't even do that there I don't think there's any acknowledgement that this song is original right no it's we're never told you have to like literally go to Glee Wiki and look at the song credits uh-huh yeah weird the chat famously just said we didn't know as an audience because Kurt didn't say oh my god exactly original songs oh thank goodness has the entire American songbook yes yeah yeah everyone else in the audience was like well I couldn't possibly know every song so this probably is a song they found who am I Kurt? Kurt stands up with a poster board they're doing original songs everyone instead of like one that says tots.
[3:04:29] Ian: Um wait that kind of surprises me that both of you have this opinion because I never have given much thought to this song but after watching it just now I was about to come into this saying I'm not really sure which one I would put through there's also people in the chat Ryan specifically is really rallying for this song um I thought it was really good um but they accomplished different things to me so yeah I'm curious to learn more about why this song didn't really hit for you unless the reasons why you just said and you don't have anything more but yeah I'm kind of torn.
[3:05:09] Patrick: I think the reason the song hit better this time is because I was watching it out of the context of the episode so it's just like Jake Zyrus's beautiful voice and I was like oh wow he sounds like an angel and like he sounds like an angel and I think the song is not badly written like it's a well-written song and so just it isolated I enjoyed it a lot more when I look in the larger context of the episode but specifically of Glee I really don't like this number because and someone mentioned this in the chat this is not vocal adrenaline like vocal adrenaline is like the big bad of Glee and what I love about vocal adrenaline is their soulless automatons like they are super villains they can like do inhuman stunts while singing perfect harmony every song they sing is like a war cry like they are personally about to take you down with this song I like vocal adrenaline more when they are cartoonishly evil and over the top and I think the plot line of sunshine going to vocal adrenaline is a good enough plot line and that you know like they didn't really ever do anything with it frankly it happens in season in episode one and then she only shows up two more times but like the plot line of this really nice girl ends up in this really evil group and is kind of in over her head is a fine enough plot line but if I'm watching a vocal adrenaline number I want to be watching bohemian rhapsody I want to be watching another one bites the dust I want to be watching far from over I want to be watching controversial mercy I love mercy and rehab I love rehab I want to watch something that's like I want to watch something that like knocks me on my ass and this one like wait complete your thought oh yeah this one is just kind of like step touching and they try to do stuff they do like a random back walk over for no reason like they're trying to put in stunts because they can but the stunts don't feel justified by the song it just it kind of falls flat to me.
[3:07:13] Andrew: I did notice that you didn't um cite any performances by Unique Adams um oh boogie shoes is great okay we're saying that boogie like I was like pinball wizard is like kind of the most like terrifying of all the Unique vocal adrenaline numbers and I think Unique and vocal adrenaline is what sunshine and vocal adrenaline wanted to be where it's like nice girl in evil group and the performances still have an evil energy to them even though Unique is tearing it up whereas the sunshine performances you're like this is the group we're scared of yeah Patrick what are you thinking?
[3:08:04] Patrick: I think that I think a lot of us are really inconsistent with what factors we use to determine what should go through because sometimes we approach it with hey what's the context to this sometimes we just appreciate the straight vocal sometimes we look at if the choreo or not um shout out Kurt but I really I don't I don't know uh because this is one that I I just don't have much of a connection to but watching it just now was really really great but then as we talk about it and I was looking at some of the chats and people saying yeah they dropped the storyline so hard that why would we have much of an attachment to sunshine's you know breakthrough moment at the end of the the season so I kind of left really thinking that was pretty spectacular I mean what an amazing vocalist but um yeah I guess it doesn't I totally forget about it um it doesn't really come up in my brain ever when I think about Glee um whereas the other number there aren't like a ton of numbers staged that way where it's the Glee club kind of rehearsing and fooling around and yeah I really really do like that so um maybe I'm leaning in one way over the another over another but yeah I will say after just watching it and not really considering all the context or the debate about it I just thought that was really excellent but yeah again what do you expect from a sunshine song?
[3:09:36] Andrew: Yeah I mean I have always been more of a context person which is why I put through when I was if I were a boy over love song right way back was you that was me that was me um what is this song called I don't even remember as long as you're there as long as you're there this could be from any TV show ever this could be from American Idol like this could be from so many different things it just doesn't have a Glee's thumbprint on it whereas damn it Janet is Glee not only is it like characters I recognize but just them being in the choir room and how silly it is it just feels much more like the DNA of the show whereas this is just like an incredibly sung ballad that sounds like every other incredibly sung ballad.
[3:10:26] Patrick: I have a rewrite option um that I'm curious if this sounds like a better alternative to as long as you're there to me I find it like insane that the end of the series they never did um my heart will go on and I know that like Jake had had like a career of like just going on any damn TV show and spewing out like a Celine any Celine song and like would would be frankly just as good if not better than the original and so I'm like the fact that they never did that I think that they could have put that here to like have like an emotional resonance like similar to the season one finale we have bohemian rhapsody this hugely popular song for like a very big moment in the series I'm like I think that personally that would work for me better than this original song.
[3:11:19] Ian: I agree I kind of want to revisit the idea that we brought up a few minutes ago of would it have hit different if the audience really understood that it was an original song and kind of vocal adrenaline's way of trumping and like really rubbing it into the new directions yet again I think that I would feel yeah quite a bit differently about it yeah if that was the case um yeah kind of a missed opportunity to kind of add insult to injury uh at the end of the episode.
[3:11:56] Andrew: Yeah I agree that would yeah I do like the idea I don't know why they just didn't even take it it's just so weird it is like why is there it's so weird they have like a closet original song right and also I wrote this down it was on Glee the music volume six why was this on Glee the music volume six well because they wrote it so they wanted to oh that's true numbers but I guess for the two of you what do you like context aside whatever what do you think of the song like I think it's a pretty powerful song I like it quite I think it's like I have honestly probably listened to this like the mp3 of this song twice in my life and one of those times was today um I do like obviously sunshine sounds amazing um and like I said I don't think it's I think it's a well-constructed song it's not doing anything more than other belty ballads are for me personally like it doesn't have any like secret sauce to it I just think that like when I consider sunshine songs specifically and that's not to say that like multiple sunshine songs can't go through because we already have one but also kind of in that vein listen is like I'm listening to that way more than this I don't know what it is about like that listen has I guess it's a song that I'm familiar with it has the Beyonce at all I suppose yeah it just doesn't work doesn't work for me.
[3:13:31] Ian: Well what I'd say is that there are some people in the chat who are really fighting hard for it um so maybe their opinions can be noted are there people or is there a person I think there's two.
[3:13:45] Andrew: What I will say is that if either of you were really big on this song I feel like I could have been swayed or you could sway Gleecrest version by Gleecrest me about it but yeah I understand the lackluster no fanfare about this one so yeah okay I'm picking up what you guys are putting down so with all that being said are we ready to vote?
[3:14:10] Patrick: Oh I haven't made up my mind yet.
[3:14:17] Ian: Yes I am that was I am ready to vote yeah okay then Ian go ahead.
[3:14:28] Andrew: Hey j-a-n-e-t I love you so uh-oh yeah.
[3:14:38] Patrick: I will also go with damn it Janet.
[3:14:47] Andrew: It's a three for three for damn it Janet that is the last vote of the round two and I just want everyone to appreciate this moment for what it is because we got a lot of songs through this round that are very special frankly it could have been a lot worse that's not it could have been so much worse and uh you know I know we had our casualties over the course of round two but I was listening to the round three playlist like it's bop after bop I'm so glad that they made it this far again it's like that's an honor within itself an honor just to be nominated for the best song on Glee so with all that being said what no go ahead.
[3:15:29] Ian: What can I say do you feel like your mindset then Andrew and Ian is a lot of people aren't people a lot of the songs got to round three so now there'll be some where you're just happy they got round three and you won't fight as hard for them to get to round four?
[3:15:39] Andrew: I feel like I probably wouldn't go I probably have said that in round one that I was like I'm going to like give up that when I didn't yeah you know I yeah I'll go into it with the same mind and what are you thinking?
[3:16:03] Patrick: I there's kind of like only one song from Glee that like I will end a friendship over like I'm going to be like if you don't vote for this you don't like me um besides that I do try not naming the song oh it's the Adele mashup I love it I'm not saying it has to win I'm not saying it has to win but like if it goes out in round three what's going on and it would win if I was in charge um but besides that I do try and come in open to like whatever I'm feeling in the moment you know I I try not to be like well I have like a personal story with the song so I'm going to fight for it I really try and be like at least in my opinion which one of these songs is doing and like I said I I personally really go for context so there will be songs that I love to listen to but I'm like really it doesn't it's kind of a throwaway plot wise like it's not really accomplishing anything and so then that will rank lower than a song I like to listen to less that I feel like is a critical moment in the TV show.
[3:17:09] Andrew: Yeah I feel like I've never shared this idea of the Glockett before but I almost look at the Glockett.
