[0:00] Andrew: We're on a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.
[0:07] Andrew: Da-dum, da-dum. There's no rival reason to it, so don't get mad at me.
[0:18] Andrew: Glacket by Glacket, we'll rank everyone.
[0:22] Andrew: Which song is getting closer to spot number one?
[0:26] Andrew: Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
[0:32] Andrew: It's Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
[0:36] Andrew: Did you want us to join in?
[0:39] Andrew: I know Matt really loves to sing, and Matt is also here.
[0:45] Matt Ligouri: So, you did a different version of the song. I don't know how often you've ever listened to it on 1.5x, but that's my normal.
[0:54] Matt Ligouri: So, that was really slow.
[0:57] Patrick Sammon: Oh, the tempo? It was kind of like a jazzy...
[1:00] Matt Ligouri: No, that's probably what it normally sounds like, but I've never heard it that slow.
[1:04] Patrick Sammon: Yeah, that's what it normally sounds like. Okay, interesting that you listen on 1.5x. I should try that out.
[1:09] Matt Ligouri: I mean, that's all I've ever used to listen to a podcast for many, many years.
[1:15] Patrick Sammon: I feel like someone has said before that they listen on, like, 2x speed.
[1:21] Matt Ligouri: No, that's normal as well. I mean, there's a lot of podcasts out there. People gotta get through.
[1:25] Andrew: They gotta get through. And hey, Mama, sometimes these episodes are 7 hours long.
[1:30] Patrick Sammon: But, like, I remember that person that told me that was like, actually, I couldn't listen to the episode on 2x speed because you guys were talking too fast.
[1:37] Andrew: And it was like, it was crazy to keep up with.
[1:40] Patrick Sammon: You guys were talking too fast!
[1:43] Andrew: We're on a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.
[1:49] Patrick Sammon: Wait, I kinda love it.
[1:52] Patrick Sammon: It's got a good beat at 1.5x. I'm sure it's great at 1x too, but I don't know. That's not my cup of tea.
[1:59] Andrew: Hey, but you know what is my cup of tea? It's a cup of Glee.
[2:04] Matt Ligouri: Hell yeah.
[2:05] Andrew: And I got a couple Gleeks here.
[2:08] Andrew: So, Patrick and Matt, thank you so much for joining me.
[2:12] Patrick Sammon: Oh, come on.
[2:13] Andrew: We're gonna talk about this hit Fox show today.
[2:17] Andrew: And honestly, midday recording.
[2:22] Andrew: I feel like the vibes are not, like, kind of like, like, at the usually when we do at the end of the day, it's like kind of like a, we're crashing out a little bit.
[2:30] Patrick Sammon: It's like you're done with work and you're like, ah, time to talk about Glee.
[2:33] Matt Ligouri: Yeah.
[2:34] Andrew: We're in, like, our Sunday.
[2:36] Patrick Sammon: Sunday.
[2:37] Andrew: Like, slow, like, day of rest era.
[2:41] Andrew: I have big plans after this.
[2:43] Andrew: I'm going to watch the Actor Awards.
[2:48] Patrick Sammon: Oh, so, yeah.
[2:51] Andrew: Also, wait, hey, Patrick has a new last name.
[2:56] Patrick Sammon: You want to unpack this?
[2:59] Andrew: I think so.
[3:01] Patrick Sammon: I think so.
[3:03] Patrick Sammon: Well, it's kind of, like, nerve wracking because it's a big announcement to make on this podcast, but I did see Dianna Agron this weekend, and she did propose to me.
[3:14] Patrick Sammon: Yes.
[3:15] Patrick Sammon: So, I do have a new name.
[3:17] Patrick Sammon: I took her name.
[3:18] Andrew: I love that.
[3:20] Andrew: As feminist icon Quinn Fabray would have wanted.
[3:23] Patrick Sammon: Lucy Quinn Fabray. Don't get twisted.
[3:26] Matt Ligouri: That's the best part about these recordings is that you can put anything for your name, and people just believe you, and I wasn't expecting to be called out.
[3:37] Patrick Sammon: People believe you?
[3:39] Matt Ligouri: Matt congratulated me when we started recording.
[3:43] Patrick Sammon: I'm changing mine right now.
[3:45] Matt Ligouri: Oh, okay.
[3:47] Matt Ligouri: I'm going Glee character over actor.
[3:51] Patrick Sammon: Oh, Matt Hudson.
[3:53] Matt Ligouri: Matt Hudson-Williams?
[3:55] Patrick Sammon: Is that his name?
[3:56] Matt Ligouri: Yeah.
[3:57] Patrick Sammon: Andrew, do you want to tell the story of what happened?
[4:02] Andrew: And also, Matt, do you have Barbara Walters journalistic questions for us?
[4:09] Matt Ligouri: I can try.
[4:11] Matt Ligouri: I will say Barbara Walters probably didn't have FOMO like I do when I see all of my Gleeky friends meeting Dianna Agron, so it was probably easier for her to do her job in a circumstance like this.
[4:22] Matt Ligouri: But I can try.
[4:24] Andrew: All right.
[4:25] Matt Ligouri: Question number one.
[4:26] Matt Ligouri: Hit us.
[4:27] Matt Ligouri: What's your new life partner's phone number so I can put it in my phone?
[4:34] Patrick Sammon: So I can text her.
[4:36] Patrick Sammon: That I can't disclose.
[4:39] Matt Ligouri: What does she smell like?
[4:40] Patrick Sammon: She smells like whatever I smelled like, which was probably six old fashions.
[4:48] Matt Ligouri: Okay.
[4:50] Patrick Sammon: In low key, she is an old fashioned type woman.
[4:54] Patrick Sammon: Like, literally, she's baby girl is like is going into the archive to for these song choices.
[5:01] Matt Ligouri: Have we confirmed? Has she moved into this? What's it called? Cafe Carlyle. Has she moved in there like permanently? Does she have an apartment upstairs?
[5:10] Patrick Sammon: No, I think that my head canon is that she does like stay at the hotel while she's performing because she performs for an entire week.
[5:19] Patrick Sammon: And I'm just assuming that she gets a place there because she's talked about before.
[5:24] Patrick Sammon: I think last time that we went when they came here to shoot the New York episode, she stayed at Cafe Carlyle.
[5:33] Patrick Sammon: It was like, I love it. Can't get enough.
[5:35] Patrick Sammon: I don't think she's ever left.
[5:36] Andrew: I honestly feel like anytime I've ever heard of where Dianna is working in between.
[5:41] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[5:42] Andrew: We'll never hear from her again until next year.
[5:44] Patrick Sammon: Well, she's really hard to book because she can't leave.
[5:47] Andrew: I'm the breadwinner in this family.
[5:50] Andrew: OK, so, yeah, Patrick, Claudia, Elias and I went to we went to Patrick's hotel room to do a little Glee game pregame where we watched, you know, performances.
[6:10] Andrew: You know, they sang songs on the show and we watched a few crazy and then went over to Cafe Carlyle, watched the damn performance, performance of my life.
[6:22] Patrick Sammon: Barbara Bush was there.
[6:25] Andrew: Of course, Barbara Bush.
[6:30] Patrick Sammon: And it was like crazy because I was like, oh, maybe she's just like a fan or like, I don't know, maybe she's just like rich people bored where she's like, let me just go to the Cafe Carlyle and spend one trillion dollars.
[6:44] Patrick Sammon: But she while performing, Dianna was like, my family's here.
[6:48] Andrew: It was kind of crazy that Dianna's mom that I think stepdad and brother and like like her cousin and all of their partners were like right up front.
[7:01] Patrick Sammon: And then she was like, hi, family.
[7:04] Patrick Sammon: And also my friend is here, Barbara.
[7:07] Andrew: And I was like, clock it. She's friends with the first a first daughter.
[7:13] Patrick Sammon: And then she said, and my favorite Gleeks are all here.
[7:16] Patrick Sammon: She was maintaining eye contact.
[7:18] Andrew: Okay, so let me take over from here.
[7:20] Andrew: Yeah.
[7:25] Patrick Sammon: So it's like a really intimate space, which is cool.
[7:27] Patrick Sammon: I was very ignorant to like everything about this experience.
[7:31] Patrick Sammon: Like I just said yes when Andrew asked if I wanted to come and get a ticket.
[7:38] Patrick Sammon: But it was so fancy.
[7:40] Andrew: Like, Andrew called me two days before and said, hey, like, you have to pack a suit coat.
[7:47] Patrick Sammon: Yeah, I was like, I did not know that.
[7:49] Andrew: So it was like a fancy place.
[7:51] Patrick Sammon: And maybe people who are listening to this are like, well, I did not know.
[7:55] Andrew: Cafe Carlyle. I've never been but I can imagine.
[7:58] Patrick Sammon: It sounds like it, right?
[7:59] Andrew: Yeah.
[8:00] Andrew: So, yeah.
[8:01] Patrick Sammon: So then we, you know, dressed up real nice, whatever, but it's really small.
[8:04] Patrick Sammon: And so really, there's any table, I would say is like a good table because we were sitting like at the back of the room, but we were still really, really close.
[8:14] Andrew: And she chose of her own free will to look in like the direction of our table pretty much like almost the majority of the night.
[8:24] Patrick Sammon: There are videos that sorry to not. Can you popcorn popcorn me?
[8:28] Andrew: And I'll popcorn right back really quick.
[8:32] Patrick Sammon: I feel like the videos that we took, you can see her like looking directly at us.
[8:37] Andrew: And maybe that was the reason she was like, you can film in there.
[8:41] Patrick Sammon: But like, I guess it is distracting to see damn camera.
[8:45] Matt Ligouri: Are you aware of there's like animatronics?
[8:48] Patrick Sammon: I know, at least specifically, like in Disney, just that's where I have the most experience with these.
[8:52] Matt Ligouri: Not of Dianna, maybe.
[8:53] Patrick Sammon: Of whatever the character is, where like the eyes of the character will move and follow you wherever you go.
[9:01] Matt Ligouri: Wait, I feel like I saw recently.
[9:04] Patrick Sammon: It was like so distracting because like, not Daffy, Donald and Daisy Duck were like on like GMA or something.
[9:12] Matt Ligouri: And of course, booked.
[9:15] Patrick Sammon: And Donald was blinking like they have the function for blinking.
[9:21] Matt Ligouri: Daisy couldn't blink.
[9:22] Patrick Sammon: And I was like, it's distracting when one of y'all is blinking.
[9:26] Matt Ligouri: But when the it's like it's crazy.
[9:29] Patrick Sammon: Was Dianna blinking?
[9:30] Matt Ligouri: Dianna blinked.
[9:31] Patrick Sammon: OK, so she was real.
[9:32] Matt Ligouri: Yeah.
[9:33] Patrick Sammon: Daisy doesn't blink.
[9:34] Patrick Sammon: Dianna blinks.
[9:35] Patrick Sammon: But there are characters that their eyes will move with you.
[9:39] Patrick Sammon: And I almost wonder if a performer like Dianna Agron could have the same effect where wherever you went in the room, her eyes are going to follow you.
[9:47] Andrew: It's like a painting.
[9:48] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[9:50] Patrick Sammon: Well, maybe she just knew that there was a certain extreme amount of Gleek energy coming from like one part of the room.
[9:58] Andrew: Yeah, because we were sitting next to people who maybe they're Gleeks.
[10:02] Matt Ligouri: No, no, we were not.
[10:04] Patrick Sammon: They were old.
[10:05] Patrick Sammon: They were people next to us.
[10:06] Patrick Sammon: They were very old.
[10:07] Patrick Sammon: I'm going to say older than that.
[10:09] Andrew: Yeah, maybe.
[10:10] Patrick Sammon: Maybe.
[10:11] Patrick Sammon: And also low key. And the Gleeks are going to hate hearing this.
[10:15] Patrick Sammon: They fell asleep during the show.
[10:18] Andrew: Do you remember that?
[10:19] Patrick Sammon: If you were older than 79 years old, you would, too.
[10:21] Andrew: I don't remember that.
[10:23] Patrick Sammon: No contacts for Quinn Fabray.
[10:26] Andrew: Yeah.
[10:27] Patrick Sammon: So basically, it wasn't like a Glee concert.
[10:31] Andrew: And Patrick, Elias and Claudia had seen her before.
[10:35] Patrick Sammon: So I was asking, well, you know, does she, you know, sing Glee songs?
[10:39] Patrick Sammon: Does she blink?
[10:40] Patrick Sammon: Does she blink?
[10:41] Patrick Sammon: Will she marry me?
[10:44] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[10:45] Patrick Sammon: Is she single?
[10:46] Patrick Sammon: Is she going to propose?
[10:47] Andrew: So you all had said that, like, she doesn't sing songs from Glee, but she'll, like, talk about her time on the show or at least reference it.
[10:55] Patrick Sammon: She didn't during this past performance.
[10:58] Patrick Sammon: So maybe she is now more well known for Cafe Carlyle and Dianna Agron updates than she is for Glee.
[11:05] Andrew: But she also usually has visitors, right? It's not just Barbara Bush.
[11:12] Patrick Sammon: Like, there's usually other people in that come to her shows, I feel like that may have something more to do with Glee in some capacity.
[11:19] Patrick Sammon: Well, famously, last time that Elias, Cassie, Claudia and I went, we went to, like, the bar area next to Cafe Carlyle, next to, like, where the performance is.
[11:27] Andrew: And damn, Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost were at the table next.
[11:39] Patrick Sammon: Just very casual.
[11:41] Patrick Sammon: But we watched the show.
[11:46] Patrick Sammon: She, of course, like, sings, yeah, like, songs that I guess, like, are for, like, the 87-year-olds in the room, which there were plenty.
[11:56] Patrick Sammon: And, yeah, she did sing I Love This. This is a new choice.
[12:01] Patrick Sammon: Is That All There Is.
[12:02] Patrick Sammon: Why am I blanking on, like, who the original artist is?
[12:05] Patrick Sammon: But really perfect song.
[12:08] Patrick Sammon: And I just, like, thought it really fit her vibe.
[12:12] Andrew: Anyway, and then we went to the little bar area after, again, to spend another trillion dollars there.
[12:22] Patrick Sammon: And, yeah, we were, like, the host, like, it was, like, the host, like, knew that we were Gleeks, right?
[12:30] Patrick Sammon: And was, like, yeah, you want to go over there.
[12:32] Patrick Sammon: She's over there.
[12:33] Patrick Sammon: You want to be close to Dianna.
[12:35] Patrick Sammon: Moved us there, right?
[12:37] Andrew: She smelled it on you.
[12:38] Patrick Sammon: She smelled it on us.
[12:39] Patrick Sammon: It was written all over our dirty little faces.
[12:41] Andrew: Our dirty little scary faces, yeah.
[12:43] Patrick Sammon: She's like, here, I'll make you a slushie.
[12:45] Patrick Sammon: You can bring it over to her.
[12:46] Andrew: Slushie her.
[12:48] Patrick Sammon: Slushie her.
[12:49] Patrick Sammon: So we were kind of, like, hanging by her for, what was that, Andrew? Like, 45 minutes-ish, maybe.
[12:57] Andrew: Yeah.
[12:58] Andrew: Yeah, we were there.
[13:30] Patrick Sammon: There's like various rooms, because it's like a hotel, or connected to a hotel, so there's like a hallway and like another sitting area, and so we had seen her in like kind of a hallway, like outside of the bar.
[13:44] Matt Ligouri: Yeah, um, my quick conversation with her was, I think Elias like said something to her. And then I was like, Hey, we've been to this show the past two times as well. And always incredible. Love it so much. Yeah. Oh, and then I told her that Is That All There Is was my grandma's favorite song, which it was. And so, and then I was like, yeah, can we take a picture? And she said, no pictures at the bar. But then...
[14:18] Patrick Sammon: Okay, no. Okay, question.
[14:20] Matt Ligouri: Yeah.
[14:20] Patrick Sammon: How much of you in that moment is thinking, do I ask if I can take a picture? Or do I ask if she'll come on Gleek of the Week podcast?
[14:30] Matt Ligouri: I know that she's not going to come on Gleek of the Week podcast, because like, literally, no, because in the last episode, Kevin McHale, I told him, we had, Baby Boy just likes to chat. He and I talked even more after the recording. And I was like, I know that it was like, the biggest pain to book Dianna for And That's What You Really Miss. And he said, that was a nightmare, trying to get a hold of her and like, get her...
[15:01] Patrick Sammon: His friend.
[15:02] Matt Ligouri: His friend. Yeah. So I'm sure he's fine with me sharing that. Because like, that's the woman. That's who she is. But yeah, and then Patrick had a little kiki with...
[15:15] Patrick Sammon: I had a mission, because the rest of them had like, talked to her before or like taking a picture or whatever. Matt, to answer your question, I didn't have any like, desire necessarily to get a picture with her. I did, but like, I guess that wasn't in the front of my brain. I just kind of was like, I want to like, talk to her. And then I did promptly after, like, shove my phone or somebody's phone in their face being like, you need to like, record that I'm like, talking to her from afar.
[15:45] Matt Ligouri: So I did actually, I suppose that was front of mind. But yeah, I just like, stopped her in the hall and talked to her.
[15:51] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[15:52] Matt Ligouri: What if next time that you go and you use your time to... All right, so maybe we're getting a little crazy here. But like, can you put a wire in your shirt and record the conversation and then...
[16:02] Patrick Sammon: I think that's legal.
[16:04] Matt Ligouri: Is it? I don't know.
[16:05] Patrick Sammon: In certain states, yes.
[16:07] Matt Ligouri: Yeah, okay.
[16:07] Patrick Sammon: I don't know about New York.
[16:09] Matt Ligouri: Look into the law. And even if you don't, we could just recount the conversation later. But just ask her, like, Paradise by the Dashboard Light or Homeward Bound Home? What do you think is the better lead cover?
[16:18] Patrick Sammon: She does it really good.
[16:19] Matt Ligouri: She has no idea what I know.
[16:21] Patrick Sammon: She'll know. Okay, maybe don't use those. Maybe we have to like, you know, get a little more specific and talk about, you know, the songs that she does know. But we could get an advancement for a song in this competition at the next time that you go to a show.
[16:34] Matt Ligouri: Well, that's a great point.
[16:36] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[16:36] Matt Ligouri: And that's a regret of mine. Another regret of mine is not saying, I loved your work in Burlesque.
[16:43] Patrick Sammon: The one scene. Yeah.
[16:45] Matt Ligouri: The one scene. But I talked to her and I just said she was like, great. And I loved her and we hugged and I like shook her hand and I like left. So it was pretty wonderful.
[16:56] Patrick Sammon: And yeah, then afterwards, the four of us just kind of hung out like the weeks that we were. Did some singing, did some dancing, did some drinking. And then we went home.
[17:12] Matt Ligouri: Find it, find it. The really perfect evening. Oh, Dianna Agron, the winner of her Glackett. I know that her favorite song that they did on the show was Somebody to Love. The Justin Bieber version. Kidding.
[17:31] Patrick Sammon: But wait.
[17:31] Matt Ligouri: No, she told me she really like never can say goodbye, but she thinks that the Rory solo is better.
[17:39] Patrick Sammon: It was comfy about me.
[17:41] Matt Ligouri: She whatever she went up to me and she was like, wait, you're Patrick from a few episodes of Gleek of the Week pod, right? And I was like, yeah. And she's like, just so you know, I'm not mad about that matchup. I think it was completely necessary and important and relevant and the better decision to put forward a fucking Rory solo over one of mine. And that's actually what she said to me. And then she hugged me and then we shook hands.
[18:09] Patrick Sammon: That would be the recording live.
[18:13] Matt Ligouri: That would be the craziest thing of all time to discover that she listens.
[18:17] Patrick Sammon: Matt, do you have any other questions? Because then I do have to take a minute or two to talk about how I saw Chess the next day with Lea Michele.
[18:23] Matt Ligouri: And I feel pretty I'm pretty talking about my weekend.
[18:28] Patrick Sammon: No, the sooner that we stop talking about my FOMO, the better.
[18:31] Matt Ligouri: Okay, so yeah, then the next day, Andrew did not join me because he's already seen it. But I saw Chess with one of our other podcast friends, Charlie. Shout out, Charlie.
[18:43] Patrick Sammon: Love of my life.
[18:44] Matt Ligouri: So then we saw it. And that show was like, really, I went into it with no context. Matt, do you know what that show is about or anything about it?
[18:57] Matt Ligouri: I mean, I'm gonna guess based on the title.
[19:00] Patrick Sammon: You're gonna guess chess?
[19:02] Matt Ligouri: No, I was gonna guess checkers.
[19:04] Patrick Sammon: Wrong. A lot of people are thinking that.
[19:07] Matt Ligouri: You walk into the theater and the curtain has the US flag and then the communism symbol on it. And I was like, oh, this is about the Cold War.
[19:22] Patrick Sammon: And then within like the first minute, the narrator of the show is like, yeah, this is about the Cold War.
[19:29] Matt Ligouri: And I was like, okay, got it.
[19:31] Patrick Sammon: What?
[19:31] Matt Ligouri: The narrator of that show, I will say, is my number one op. I've seen the show twice now. Unfortunately, I know he is really cringed.
[19:44] Patrick Sammon: Annoying.
[19:45] Matt Ligouri: I'm so sorry.
[19:45] Patrick Sammon: Well, so I've been trying to have a good take on what sometimes pisses me off about musicals.
[19:57] Matt Ligouri: And I ultimately don't like a musical or I like a musical less when I'm being spoken to as an audience.
[20:04] Patrick Sammon: Like, I don't like it when they break the fourth wall and they are like, just so you know, you're watching a musical.
[20:11] Matt Ligouri: And so not my favorite device, but like sometimes it works.
[20:14] Patrick Sammon: Sometimes it's whatever.
[20:16] Matt Ligouri: But then for this one, what they do is he puts on like an annoying, like 19, whatever. I don't even know what decade, like radio announcer voice.
[20:23] Patrick Sammon: And it's like, here comes like blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
[20:29] Matt Ligouri: I'm like, we're going to do this.
[20:31] Patrick Sammon: And it's like, shut the fuck up.
[20:35] Matt Ligouri: Can we just watch the show?
[20:36] Patrick Sammon: So this probably to everybody listening, like means nothing if you haven't like seen it.
[20:41] Matt Ligouri: But whatever.
[20:43] Patrick Sammon: That's what Andrew's referencing.
[20:44] Matt Ligouri: And I agree with him. But let me just say one thing.
[20:48] Patrick Sammon: Lea Michele, she may be difficult.
[20:51] Matt Ligouri: She may be.
[20:52] Patrick Sammon: She sang and she really, really killed it.
[20:58] Matt Ligouri: Like and so did Aaron Tveit and Nicholas Christopher were all very wonderful and great vocalists. But it was like kind of, it was a show where I'm glad I didn't know anything going into it.
[21:11] Patrick Sammon: Because you kind of had to just be like, is this camp?
[21:15] Matt Ligouri: Oh, this is camp.
[21:16] Patrick Sammon: Oh, like, this is kind of good, though.
[21:18] Matt Ligouri: Oh, it's not.
[21:20] Patrick Sammon: Oh, yeah.
[21:21] Matt Ligouri: So that was kind of the vibe of the show.
[21:25] Patrick Sammon: But yeah, that was like my big back leak weekend.
[21:28] Matt Ligouri: How scared do you guys get when you guys go to a show and you're going for Lea, you're going for Kevin, you're going? Like, how afraid do you get that morning that they're not going to be there?
[21:38] Patrick Sammon: They're not gonna be there.
[21:39] Matt Ligouri: Well, I swear to God, I heard the usher who is giving out the playbills say to the people in front of me, sorry, no Lea tonight.
[21:49] Patrick Sammon: And I was like, what?
[21:50] Matt Ligouri: And then I like go meet Charlie at the seats. And I'm like, I don't think Lea's in it. Like I heard someone say that. And he's like, if that's the case, that sucks. But then she was there.
[22:00] Patrick Sammon: So I maybe just like, maybe I do have that fear, Matt, because it was like, in my head, like, my brain was playing tricks on me because I was nervous about that.
[22:09] Matt Ligouri: Of course, any understudy would be great. But yeah, you're kind of paying a hundred plus dollars for Lea.
[22:15] Patrick Sammon: Yeah, we know we want to see who we want to see.
[22:18] Matt Ligouri: The understudies are great. But like I did a whole trip of going in to see Darren Criss and maybe happy, right, maybe happy ending is what it's called. And I just spent the entire week leading up to it in fear that he wouldn't be there that day.
[22:31] Patrick Sammon: He was.
[22:32] Matt Ligouri: But it's still scary.
[22:34] Patrick Sammon: It's so scary.
[22:35] Matt Ligouri: I almost saw that as well, because he's ending his run in the next few weeks, I think.
[22:41] Patrick Sammon: So yeah, that was my Gleek Weekend. I hope you all enjoyed it. I know I did.
[22:45] Matt Ligouri: Wait, that's Hilary Duff.
[22:51] Patrick Sammon: Yes.
[22:52] Matt Ligouri: Yes.
[22:53] Patrick Sammon: Yeah. Wait, so Mattrick, do you have Glackett opinions to share at this moment?
[23:02] Matt Ligouri: Oh, boy, do I.
[23:04] Patrick Sammon: Oh, I love this voice.
[23:07] Matt Ligouri: I'll keep it up for five seconds.
[23:09] Patrick Sammon: You sound like the narrator that we both hate.
[23:13] Matt Ligouri: Well, my apologies. I am getting sad sometimes when I listen to this podcast, because all I know is that my favorite songs aren't going to win at the end of the day.
[23:27] Patrick Sammon: I really think you should consider the idea that every decision going forward is just based on what I want.
[23:34] Matt Ligouri: Oh, yeah. In which ways, in which competitions, specifically, were the not Matt opinion was had?
[23:43] Patrick Sammon: I mean, I feel like it's been talked about enough, but obviously not by me. So I will mention it. Ah, mercy versus I've had the time of my life.
[23:50] Matt Ligouri: Oh, that was-
[23:51] Patrick Sammon: Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.
[23:53] Matt Ligouri: What are we doing?
[23:54] Patrick Sammon: Worst fucking decision ever, Allison and Ian.
[23:58] Matt Ligouri: I felt like I was in a nightmare.
[24:02] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[24:03] Matt Ligouri: Yeah, I think I still am. Just like, and I get it. I mean, obviously, or not obviously, maybe some people don't know that I've completely stolen the concept of this podcast with Iman. We're doing this for players of Big Brother. And so there are plenty of times where, you know, in our minds, and maybe this isn't what Allison and Ian were doing, but we're like, let's just pick the sillier option. Let's just have more fun with this. But I don't know. It feels different there. So like, I guess I'm saying that I get it. But also, if that's not what they were doing, and they were just like, no, genuinely, mercy is better than I've had the time of my life, then that's where I start to be like, okay, the rest of this podcast is just going to, you know, not let me down. I'm going to be entertained, obviously. But the decisions might just continue to let me down.
[24:46] Patrick Sammon: No, but I think, I understand. I'm sorry that we lost her. But I do think that that's like, and I think that you and I share this opinion, maybe. It's like, that's what makes it fun.
[24:59] Matt Ligouri: Yeah, yeah. I mean, the fact that anything can happen is obviously still great. But I don't know, it's also like tough, you know, we're about to get to the quote unquote top 100 songs of Glee.
[25:12] Patrick Sammon: No, not quote unquote. The, yes.
[25:15] Matt Ligouri: You know, oh, it's not really. It will be 100.
[25:18] Patrick Sammon: Will it be the top 100?
[25:20] Matt Ligouri: It won't be the top. Yeah, it will be 100 of the Glee songs. There will be 100 of them.
[25:26] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[25:27] Matt Ligouri: And so like, it'd be great to like, in my mind, have I've had the time of my life matched up against like one of those other songs, because in my mind, it does belong there. But I digress. It's not my glacket. You know, I can make my own glacket if I want to. So that's one that I have an issue with. I am sad to have lost Bitches Back, Dress You Up. And I don't know when the vote ends that's happening right now.
[25:50] Patrick Sammon: Oh, next week.
[25:52] Matt Ligouri: I think that right now, currently Homeward Bound Home is in the lead.
[25:56] Patrick Sammon: And that's good.
[25:57] Matt Ligouri: I voted for it.
[25:58] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[25:59] Matt Ligouri: So I'm happy with that because I was very upset to have lost that and I will have to sacrifice some Rhydic in order for Homeward Bound Home to get like, I cry every time Homeward Bound Home. I can't lose it right now.
[26:11] Patrick Sammon: He's going to sacrifice himself.
[26:13] Matt Ligouri: Sorry.
[26:15] Patrick Sammon: So sad to lose Rhydic. But yeah, Trouty Mouth is gone.
[26:20] Matt Ligouri: That's a that's okay.
[26:22] Patrick Sammon: We're fine.
[26:22] Matt Ligouri: No, you can't. There must be another way.
[26:26] Patrick Sammon: What was going on with Trouty Mouth and Baby One More Time? Refresh my memory.
[26:29] Matt Ligouri: Yeah, it's like, fuck you guys. No, no, he's like, find a new bit.
[26:31] Patrick Sammon: Matt, to answer your question, that's my lack of grievance that I would like to bring to the table, actually.
[26:45] Matt Ligouri: You were mad about that.
[26:45] Patrick Sammon: That's what it was. It was just like, oh my, like, can we stop with Baby One More Time? Can we?
[26:50] Matt Ligouri: I would have voted Baby One More Time.
[26:54] Patrick Sammon: Really?
[26:54] Matt Ligouri: Yeah.
[26:55] Patrick Sammon: No.
[26:56] Matt Ligouri: Oh, you voted for it before in round two.
[26:58] Patrick Sammon: Oh, did I? That's not surprising.
[27:01] Andrew: I mean, like, I totally get your side of that one. But actually, no, I don't. Because I think you're more anti-Baby One More Time than you are pro-Trouty Mouth. You were ready to see it go, right? Trouty Mouth?
[27:15] Matt Ligouri: Yeah. I mean, like, it's, like, really impressive that she made it this far. I just think that she got voted back in round one. I barely made it this far.
[27:34] Andrew: But I feel like just, like, Baby One More Time, I don't know, something about it. I think a beautiful song, obviously. It's just, like, a wonderful pop song. The pop song, a lot of people are saying. However, it's just, like, enough. I would have voted for it. I don't know if I can explain it much further than that, but I would have. So there's that. I still believe Super Bass, but just in light of recent events, it had to be punished.
[28:00] Patrick Sammon: I think that it kind of, like, recent events being, of course, Nicki Maga.
[28:06] Matt Ligouri: Yeah, Maga Minaj. I think the fact that we have another version sung by Trinidadian queen Jane Lynch is like, OK, that we have that version. We just don't have to talk about the song as much anymore because now it's gone and that's OK.
[28:28] Andrew: That's right. That's kind of where I'm at.
[28:30] Matt Ligouri: Yeah, yeah.
[28:31] Andrew: There are worse things you could do, right?
[28:34] Matt Ligouri: That's another one in round four.
[28:37] Andrew: But yeah, I mean, that's one of the, it's been a while since this episode, but I believe I texted you as I was listening to it with Heather Morris's last episode. I was shocked. Jaw was on the floor. I said, oh, this is an easy one. And then she said, she said, Disco Inferno. And I said, oh, that was like such a gag of her being like, I think that the song ends. I say I could cry. And then she says, I was bored. Real as hell.
[29:12] Matt Ligouri: But unfortunately, I love We Are Young. There's so much like gleek, like nostalgia in that one. It's obviously more than the song. Heather was really like thinking through it. I don't know. Maybe she is. Maybe I'm not giving her enough credit. Like the storylines that lead up to that moment. And when you see the characters in that scene, in that song, like.
[29:30] Patrick Sammon: Patrick did a really good impression the other day. You know what I'm talking about? Of Quinn talking to the Troubletones in the bathroom.
[29:39] Matt Ligouri: What if I told you that they already did? What if I told you that they already did? Look under your chairs.
[29:57] Andrew: No, I agree, Matt, completely. Like, that is not a, god, that, that. I talked about it on one of the episodes I was recently on. But like, there comes a moment where you're kind of like, okay, like, you don't like get this. Like, I get that, like, your name's attached to this, but like, you don't get it. Because like, what the fuck?
[30:20] Matt Ligouri: No, but I feel like, out of, out of everybody in the cast, I feel like Kevin gets it the most.
[30:26] Andrew: Yeah.
[30:26] Matt Ligouri: And he, he really gets it. And I appreciate that a lot about him. And I think that's like, needed. Because like, and no, like, shade to Jenna or anything. But like, half of the first part of the podcast that they did together was like, I don't remember this. I don't, like, we did this. And it's like, that's actually like, kind of a funny perspective to have. Because it like, makes for a conversation. But like, yeah, sometimes, like, I won't lie. Like, hearing that from like, something that you're so passionate about, it like, turns you off for a second. You're like, what do you mean?
[31:03] Patrick Sammon: Oh, literally, you sent it the other day of Leigh Michelle in an interview talking about, she said, I really liked when we did Thriller Heads Will Roll in the Halloween episode. I was like, girl, what? Where were you?
[31:10] Andrew: Yeah. Check the tapes. What? No, no. The point being, like, that did not sit like, the best with me. Because I was like, you clearly, like, Heather Morris, like, you don't get it. So I was really, really sad about that one.
[31:22] Matt Ligouri: Yeah, I mean, they made it. So they don't get it.
[31:25] Andrew: Yeah. Hey. But we get it. So I don't know, maybe we need to have like, a button for round four, where when a Gleek, or sorry, a Gleek cast member. Are they Gleeks? Maybe. When a Gleek cast member comes on, we can just immediately reverse their decision. We can say, thank you for coming by. Thank you for coming on the podcast. You don't know what you're talking about.
[31:48] Matt Ligouri: Hi, you guy. Like, at the end of the episode, editing Andrew will come in and be like, I'm really sorry about all of that, actually. And none of that was real. That includes non-Gleek cast members, such as Robert Ulrich, as well.
[32:03] Patrick Sammon: He's committed some crimes on the Glackett.
[32:05] Matt Ligouri: Just when they get along, which is kind of-
[32:07] Andrew: One in particular. Sometimes.
[32:09] Matt Ligouri: All right, last one. Last one.
[32:10] Andrew: What? Love Song is gone.
[32:15] Matt Ligouri: You're right. And that's it.
[32:16] Andrew: Oh god, it's so bad. It's just, we had so much hope coming out of the last round. Got voted back in. It was like, okay, great. We're doing this. And now it's gone again. I just- And like-
[32:29] Matt Ligouri: I don't want to play with you anymore.
[32:30] Andrew: Fucking Mercedes. It was the Sweet Transvestite. Why are we, like, I get it. Mercedes solos are good, but they're not better than Love Song. And we are young. I get it. Mercedes is the best. And Amber is amazing. But we have way too many Mercedes solos in the Glackett. It just wasn't meant to be in this podcast, in this competition. Love Song was not meant to be. It was not meant to thrive. Nobody wanted to see it win, do well. And so we have to accept that. But she deserves so much better. And that's that.
[33:07] Matt Ligouri: I will- Speaking of Mercedes solos, Kate, again, can't get enough of this woman. Glusium. I asked her, I was like, hey- Because the royals of it all drop. That they were supposed to sing royals instead of brave. I was like, hey, I'm curious. Do you have other songs that didn't actually happen in your archive? And she was like, let me check. She's incredible. She sent me scans of songs that never were.
[33:37] Patrick Sammon: And Mersolo, Natural Woman, was supposed to be Love Like This by-
[33:48] Matt Ligouri: Right? Is that Natasha Bedingfield? Is that like the-
[33:53] Patrick Sammon: No. I woke up today feeling the way I always do. Love Like This, Natasha Bedingfield. Never had a love like this.
[34:04] Matt Ligouri: Oh, well, yeah, yeah.
[34:07] Patrick Sammon: Let me see. Why did they never cover Good Morning Baltimore?
[34:12] Matt Ligouri: They were waiting for Nikki Blonsky to show up and guest, but she said, no, I'm going on TikTok Live.
[34:19] Patrick Sammon: Why wasn't The Nationals in season five in Baltimore so they could have sang that? Why was Nikki Blonsky not a guest to judge in one of the Glee episodes? That would have been so, so fucking good.
[34:30] Matt Ligouri: Audio medium Andrew just screamed at the top of his lungs. Well, and I didn't make any sound. I literally, oh my god, she was too good for that show, honestly. Still is.
[34:41] Patrick Sammon: So, Andrew, your turn.
[34:44] Andrew: Okay, well, I agree with a lot of what Matt said. Yeah, I'm still kind of bitter about the love song of it all, but I've already talked about that. I actually did not realize that The Bitches Back Dress You Up lost to Borderline Open Your Heart. That was Alyssa's live stream episode, right?
[35:01] Matt Ligouri: Yeah.
[35:01] Andrew: I guess it didn't compute, maybe because my brain didn't want to receive that information. That's a really, really, really, really, really wrong decision.
[35:10] Patrick Sammon: Wow, really? Very, very wrong, yeah.
[35:13] Andrew: I mean, I agree. I get it. It's not like it could have lost to worse songs. That's not a bad song, obviously. But yeah, that's the wrong choice.
[35:24] Matt Ligouri: Yeah, not it.
[35:27] Andrew: Paradise versus Homeward Bound slash Home. I'm just really sad that that had to happen, because I would have to vote for Paradise. But Homeward Bound slash Home is such a good song, and I don't think that the Gleeks are going to vote it back.
[35:44] Patrick Sammon: Well, I think it usually retains. You find out on the first day what is going to come back. I don't think that any other song really has a shot now.
[35:56] Andrew: Okay, so then maybe I shouldn't put out negativity into the universe, but I'm still sad about that. And then I want to say, Gloria versus Home Season 6. Obviously, the right choice is me and Gloria. But the energy around that conversation was really, really, really scary.
[36:17] Matt Ligouri: What the hell was that?
[36:18] Patrick Sammon: Wait, you're talking about us talking about Spencer?
[36:22] Matt Ligouri: You guys were just not excited about Gloria. You guys were like, oh, we don't really give a fuck about this. And then you were like, I guess we have to vote Gloria. What was that?
[36:34] Andrew: No, it wasn't. That was not what was happening. I need to get my ears checked, because apparently that didn't happen. But I just remember there was no excitement about Gloria.
[36:44] Matt Ligouri: It wasn't like, oh, this is clearly the winner. It was like, oh, well. Where's the fanfare?
[36:48] Patrick Sammon: I think it might have been at the beginning. Because I feel like what's been happening in some episodes lately is the song gets pulled, and we're excited. And then obviously, we've had these conversations, so we sidetracked ourselves a little bit. We've talked about it enough times. And then you get back to it, and you're like, oh, just Gloria. Gloria is the winner here.
[37:05] Andrew: Well, that might have been the case. Gloria in particular is a song that is seared into my mind. I know where the cuts are. And it's just like it's too good, where you can't find really much to say about it. It's just great. That's my review of this podcast.
[37:29] Matt Ligouri: Well, honestly, sometimes I'm getting nervous, being like, okay, round four, round five. It's like, what will be said? I mean, let's just all buckle in right now. Just everybody, brace yourselves that Mercy is winning the clock.
[37:46] Patrick Sammon: Mercy has it.
[37:48] Andrew: I hate that shit so much. I know I said it already. Just like, oh, get me out of here.
[37:59] Matt Ligouri: Okay. And then Trouty Mouth, maybe one more time. The last one I'll talk about. As the resident Britney Spears stan on this podcast, I don't know. I probably would have voted Trouty Mouth. I just kind of like the Rachel version of, maybe one more time, is like, it's fun in that they made arguably the biggest pop song ever. Like, shot for shot, but then also they made it Rachel-ified, which is fun. Because a lot of the times they don't make a song, like, they don't add the layer of, like, this is the character singing it. But like, I truly felt like that was Rachel singing it, not Lea Michele, which is fun. But like, not fun enough to be in round four. So I'm kind of like a little over it. But Trouty Mouth is just more of like, a fun dark horse to keep in the glacket. So I think that's where I would have gone. But not one that I, like, had such a strong opinion about.
[39:02] Andrew: Okay. Hey.
[39:05] Patrick Sammon: Hey.
[39:06] Andrew: Hey, none of this matters. Mercy's winning.
[39:09] Patrick Sammon: Mercy is going all the way to the end.
[39:12] Matt Ligouri: I'm really picking up on this energy, though, because like, I hate that so much. And like, Matt, I'm glad that, like, I can validate it. There have been plenty of songs in that category that have been eliminated in this round. And I do appreciate when that happens, because I want it to be a reflection of the 100 best songs on Glee. And again, some have, but Mercy's still here. But you know what? I think that, yes, we're talking shit about Mercy. However, it's like, inherently, can we all agree, like, a great song, like the original Duffy version, also, like, perfect song. Love it. Yes?
[39:50] Andrew: Yeah.
[39:51] Matt Ligouri: Yeah. You don't stream, ever?
[39:54] Andrew: No.
[39:54] Matt Ligouri: Not really. Do I stream the original I've Had the Time of My Life from Dirty Dancing? By, like, Bill Medley? Is that his name? Honestly, I probably have streamed that before, yeah.
[40:07] Andrew: Yeah, okay. Okay, well, I'm ready to glack it. I'm ready for some competitions. Can I say, I told you yesterday, Patrick, that I have a feeling today we are going to get Yeah. And we're gonna kill it with fire. No, versus I Know What Boys Like. That is what I'm thinking. And we'll kill yeah with fire.
[40:32] Andrew: If I'm on an episode, there is not going to be any song that gets to the next round if it's not one of the cast members singing it. Those are all, I will do anything in my power to make those die. No, we need, it's not, the song that I pulled is not Rehab, but like Rehab, I need people to understand it. I need everybody to wake up. You know exactly what this song is. Here it is. Boom! I do know this, and I think it killed something that I like. I feel like I might have been involved. Was this on the last episode? No, I think that you were there. Were you there, Matt? I think maybe. No, you weren't there. You were never here for this. Okay, this is Summer Nights, right?
[41:26] Matt Ligouri: Yeah, this is Summer Nights.
[41:28] Andrew: It killed...
[41:29] Patrick Sammon: My Love is Your Love.
[41:31] Andrew: Yeah, I don't like that. I wouldn't have done that. I have so many things I need to say.
[41:38] Matt Ligouri: Same.
[41:39] Patrick Sammon: Yes.
[41:40] Andrew: We all saw Amber's interview this week, right? About this, talking about Sam Sadie's?
[41:44] Matt Ligouri: Yeah.
[41:45] Andrew: I thought that was really sweet.
[41:46] Patrick Sammon: Yeah, she just like gets all giggly. She's like, ha ha ha ha, Sam Sadie's, ha ha ha.
[41:52] Andrew: Correct me if I'm wrong, though. A few years ago, didn't she kind of shade Sam Sadie's, or at least cord, a little bit?
[41:59] Matt Ligouri: I don't know. I feel like I started that, and I don't actually... I don't know. I don't actually have any proof to think that they don't like each other, I don't think.
[42:14] Andrew: But I feel like I started that, and then people were like, oh, well, Andrew, you said that they don't like each other, right?
[42:21] Patrick Sammon: Yeah, you might have, because I get most of my weak news through you.
[42:26] Matt Ligouri: The chickens haven't come home to roost, or whatever? Were they the final two of Weakest Link? Or am I making that up, that she was...
[42:31] Andrew: They were, yeah.
[42:32] Matt Ligouri: Yeah. Oh, I loved that. That was so cutesy.
[42:35] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[42:36] Andrew: Anyway, I have so many things to say. A lot of discourse has happened about Kurt being with the girls, which, I don't know. I don't even know if I want to wake up that conversation. But I feel like no one is talking about Artie not being in this number at all.
[42:54] Matt Ligouri: Logistics, you know?
[42:57] Andrew: No. Just talking on your episode with him about how he never went on the stands.
[43:03] Patrick Sammon: Oh, yeah. But I feel like he could have.
[43:08] Andrew: I mean, they could have gone down to the bottom layer, and there's usually a ramp. They could have integrated him easy. And also, like, I'm in a mood today. Artie could have been with the girls, too. Be with the girls!
[43:20] Matt Ligouri: No, you know what?
[43:21] Patrick Sammon: Well...
[43:22] Andrew: Do you know what? Artie should have been with the boys, and they shouldn't have let Rory sing any part of it.
[43:32] Matt Ligouri: It's interesting that you bring up, like, Artie not being there. My main thought was just, if we did, like, a, I don't know, not like a draft, but just, like, list out everybody who's in this number.
[43:46] Patrick Sammon: There's a couple people that I wouldn't get. Namely, Quinn and Finn. Like, I just forget that they're a part of this.
[43:53] Andrew: No, but Quinn does, sorry, Finn does this, like, weird move that always kills me. He's like, But you don't gotta brag!
[44:04] Matt Ligouri: It's so weird.
[44:05] Andrew: But you don't gotta brag!
[44:07] Patrick Sammon: He's, like, praying. He's like, But you don't gotta brag!
[44:10] Andrew: It seems like they, like, genuinely had fun doing this.
[44:14] Matt Ligouri: It does, it does, it does, but, like, that's just a goofy move.
[44:17] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[44:18] Andrew: No, yeah, Quinn doesn't do much, which is, like, you know, classic. Give Rory stuff to do, but not Quinn stuff to do. Quinn, like, I know that Santana has a big moment where she, like, walks away, and then she pushes, she pushes Rachel?
[44:34] Matt Ligouri: She kicks Rachel, and then she and Mercedes both fall off and, like, knock over a trash can, which looked kind of, like, I wonder if they got stunt doubles to do that.
[44:42] Patrick Sammon: It looked kind of intense.
[44:44] Andrew: That was crazy. But, like, there's also a moment that, like, Quinn low-key walks away, like, she's, like, bored of the conversation a little bit.
[44:58] Matt Ligouri: Anything reminiscent of your experience at the bar?
[45:00] Andrew: Kind of, sort of.
[45:02] Patrick Sammon: Yeah, life imitates art.
[45:05] Andrew: But they also do that with Quinn's character a lot, actually, and I'm not sure if it was, like, if it's direction or just, like, choices that Diana makes for whatever reason, but, like, a lot of the time she is either directed to or chooses to look extremely uninterested in, like, so many of the numbers.
[45:20] Matt Ligouri: And this is a perfect example where she's just like, okay, I'm here. I really don't give a fuck, actually.
[45:27] Andrew: I mean, we are talking about... Sorry, that's why we talk about so often, like, when she's, like, hyper-engaged in a number.
[45:35] Patrick Sammon: It makes us be like, what? Wait, who's this girl?
[45:39] Andrew: We're talking about Mercedes' summer fling with Sam as if Quinn didn't date Sam, so maybe there's a little bit of that.
[45:46] Matt Ligouri: I don't think that Diana was really considering that when she was...
[45:51] Andrew: I don't know about Diana, but Quinn...
[45:53] Patrick Sammon: Quinn!
[45:55] Andrew: The spirit of Quinn was, yeah.
[45:59] Patrick Sammon: Also, my big question to you, and maybe this is, like, a really low-key dumb question.
[46:05] Andrew: Yeah.
[46:07] Patrick Sammon: Dumb question alert. But are we to believe that all the things that they sing about in the song did happen?
[46:21] Andrew: You know, like, that she nearly drowned, they made out under the dock.
[46:27] Matt Ligouri: Do they have...
[46:28] Patrick Sammon: Answer your own question first, because I want to know what your thoughts are.
[46:31] Andrew: I think it's fun to believe that all those things did happen. I think that's really...
[46:37] Matt Ligouri: But what are the other things that happen?
[46:40] Patrick Sammon: Are you looking up the lyrics, Matt?
[46:42] Matt Ligouri: Yeah.
[46:43] Patrick Sammon: She swam by me, she got a cramp.
[46:46] Matt Ligouri: He ran by me, got my suit damp.
[46:49] Patrick Sammon: I saved her life, she nearly drowned.
[46:51] Matt Ligouri: He showed off, splashing around.
[46:53] Andrew: Summer sun, something's begun.
[46:55] Matt Ligouri: What else?
[46:56] Patrick Sammon: Took her bowling in the arcade.
[46:57] Matt Ligouri: We went strolling, drank lemonade.
[46:59] Patrick Sammon: We made out under the dock.
[47:00] Matt Ligouri: We stayed up till ten o'clock.
[47:03] Patrick Sammon: He got friendly holding my hand.
[47:05] Matt Ligouri: I think that's where they lost me.
[47:06] Patrick Sammon: She got friendly down in the sand.
[47:08] Andrew: Uh-huh.
[47:09] Patrick Sammon: Okay.
[47:10] Andrew: Do you think that means that...
[47:12] Matt Ligouri: I don't think Mercedes likes sand.
[47:14] Patrick Sammon: Yes.
[47:15] Andrew: That suggests something that Mercedes will tell us two seasons from now she has no interest in.
[47:20] Matt Ligouri: This is where we are in Glee discourse.
[47:24] Andrew: I don't think Mercedes likes sand.
[47:28] Patrick Sammon: She was good.
[47:29] Matt Ligouri: You know what I mean?
[47:30] Andrew: No, Sam.
[47:31] Patrick Sammon: I don't know what you mean.
[47:33] Andrew: Summer heat.
[47:34] Matt Ligouri: That's actually...
[47:35] Andrew: Sorry.
[47:36] Matt Ligouri: This...
[47:37] Andrew: And someone who's watched Grease probably 30 times.
[47:40] Matt Ligouri: I...
[47:41] Andrew: Grease, not Glee.
[47:42] Matt Ligouri: So, have I watched Gleece 30 times?
[47:44] Andrew: Probably, yes.
[47:45] Matt Ligouri: Actually, I watched Gleece today.
[47:47] Andrew: What?
[47:49] Matt Ligouri: Yeah.
[47:50] Andrew: I watched the first half of season four today.
[47:52] Matt Ligouri: How did you forget that you did that today?
[47:56] Andrew: This song isn't in Gleece.
[47:59] Matt Ligouri: It's in season three.
[48:00] Andrew: That's someone that just watched it.
[48:01] Matt Ligouri: Yes.
[48:02] Andrew: But I'm sure they put it on the soundtrack on the CD.
[48:05] Matt Ligouri: It was.
[48:06] Andrew: Okay.
[48:07] Matt Ligouri: Sure enough.
[48:08] Andrew: So...
[48:09] Patrick Sammon: Yeah, anyway.
[48:10] Andrew: I don't think Mercedes likes sand.
[48:16] Matt Ligouri: Too long.
[48:17] Andrew: Don't worry.
[48:18] Patrick Sammon: Why did this end after summer?
[48:20] Andrew: I guess that's the point of the song.
[48:23] Patrick Sammon: But it turned colder.
[48:24] Andrew: That's where it ends.
[48:25] Matt Ligouri: Fall is the best time for...
[48:27] Andrew: Well, no. Because in Grease, they don't think that they're at the same high school.
[48:33] Patrick Sammon: And then Sandy transfers.
[48:35] Andrew: So, then it's a whole thing. Right?
[48:37] Matt Ligouri: And Danny's dad got a new job out of state.
[48:41] Andrew: And Danny becomes a teenage stripper to help his family get some more cash.
[48:49] Patrick Sammon: Sounds like Sam.
[48:50] Andrew: What?
[48:52] Patrick Sammon: Sounds like Sam.
[48:53] Andrew: No.
[48:54] Patrick Sammon: Danny does that.
[48:55] Andrew: Not Sam.
[48:56] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[48:57] Andrew: Danny does that.
[48:58] Matt Ligouri: Danny Zuko was a male stripper.
[49:05] Andrew: I follow.
[49:06] Patrick Sammon: I'm being stupid as fuck today.
[49:10] Andrew: I'm sorry.
[49:11] Matt Ligouri: That was good.
[49:12] Andrew: Because I think Matt genuinely was like, oh, that sounds like a great plot line.
[49:16] Matt Ligouri: Well, I'm not someone who doesn't know Grease like the back of their hand.
[49:19] Andrew: So, I zoned out for a second.
[49:20] Matt Ligouri: Zoned back in.
[49:21] Andrew: Yeah.
[49:22] Patrick Sammon: You've not seen Grease.
[49:23] Matt Ligouri: I've seen it like once.
[49:26] Andrew: Okay.
[49:27] Patrick Sammon: You should watch it again.
[49:28] Matt Ligouri: It's very, very wonderful.
[49:29] Andrew: I'm the same. I also have not seen it.
[49:32] Patrick Sammon: I've seen it once, I think.
[49:35] Andrew: People just don't understand culture.
[49:37] Patrick Sammon: That's me with a lot of things.
[49:38] Andrew: I think I've seen it before.
[49:39] Matt Ligouri: Podcasts.
[49:40] Andrew: Yeah.
[49:41] Patrick Sammon: I miss a lot of references you guys make anyway.
[49:43] Andrew: Not you guys, but this podcast makes.
[49:45] Matt Ligouri: You people.
[49:46] Andrew: Sorry.
[49:47] Patrick Sammon: I remember what I was trying to say earlier.
[49:49] Andrew: Sorry.
[49:50] Patrick Sammon: I remember what I was trying to say earlier now, which is, I was like, did in the Grease canon, did Danny and Sandy fuck before they started school that year?
[50:01] Andrew: I need to know.
[50:02] Patrick Sammon: Because she got finally down in the sand.
[50:04] Andrew: She was good, if you know what I mean.
[50:05] Matt Ligouri: Is that just like, second base, third base?
[50:09] Andrew: Yeah.
[50:10] Patrick Sammon: Like, how far is Mercedes going?
[50:14] Andrew: Especially in the sand, which she doesn't like.
[50:18] Matt Ligouri: Well, okay.
[50:19] Andrew: Back to your original question, Andrew.
[50:21] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[50:22] Andrew: I don't think that we are to believe that they did those things.
[50:26] Patrick Sammon: Okay.
[50:27] Andrew: I think that they, I think that like...
[50:29] Matt Ligouri: You're holding my hand as you're telling me this.
[50:31] Andrew: What they did is like, they like saw movies and they were like sneaking around and like, they like went to like Sonic.
[50:39] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[50:40] Andrew: I think that like Mercedes probably like...
[50:42] Matt Ligouri: Like on the lips.
[50:45] Andrew: They hung out with Sam's little brother.
[50:50] Patrick Sammon: Oh, Sam's little brother and sister.
[50:53] Andrew: And also let's bring Mercedes' brother back from college and do a little family outing.
[50:59] Matt Ligouri: And I feel like they...
[51:01] Andrew: I've talked about this a little bit before. I really don't think that they like vibe that much.
[51:10] Patrick Sammon: No, I think it's.
[51:13] Andrew: I do too. But like when they were flirting in New York and then they like threw their coats in the river.
[51:17] Patrick Sammon: I was like, is this like how you guys flirt?
[51:19] Andrew: You guys do like stupid shit that doesn't matter?
[51:22] Matt Ligouri: You litter?
[51:24] Andrew: Like what was that?
[51:27] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[51:28] Andrew: So anyway, I think they were a good high school couple, but not a good post high school couple.
[51:32] Matt Ligouri: Can I say that?
[51:33] Andrew: I, I'm not.
[51:34] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[51:35] Andrew: I wasn't crazy about the Sam Sadie's season five plotline. I've said it before. That like, it feels like every single episode is them having the same conversation.
[51:43] Matt Ligouri: And I'm like, I, can we please.
[51:45] Andrew: She doesn't like Sam?
[51:46] Patrick Sammon: She doesn't.
[51:48] Andrew: Sam's like.
[51:49] Matt Ligouri: We're in New York City.
[51:52] Andrew: See how unfunny that is.
[51:54] Patrick Sammon: I'll be like, oh, said it again.
[51:57] Andrew: Let's keep on doing it.
[52:00] Matt Ligouri: My question to Matt was, have you ever littered on a date?
[52:04] Matt Ligouri: Littered on a date?
[52:07] Andrew: Are we all littering that much these days?
[52:11] Patrick Sammon: Have you ever littered generally?
[52:13] Matt Ligouri: Yeah, that's, I guess that's the first question.
[52:16] I'm going to say no, but like, all right. If we're all, you know, the cops are turning off the podcast for a second here while we admit our littering.
[52:25] Andrew: Cops are going to hate what he's about to say.
[52:28] Matt Ligouri: You probably opened your car door once and like dropped a little something and then closed the door really quickly just to be like, oops, it fell out of my car and I wasn't looking. But like, not like anything major.
[52:37] Patrick Sammon: Like maybe just like, you know, the last fry that fell on the car seat or something like that.
[52:42] Matt Ligouri: On a date, probably not.
[52:45] Andrew: Have you?
[52:46] Patrick Sammon: No, I'm not littering.
[52:49] Andrew: It was a gotcha question.
[52:52] Matt Ligouri: You got my ass.
[52:53] Andrew: I got you.
[52:55] Matt Ligouri: You have littered.
[52:57] Andrew: No, I was going to say something about littering.
[52:59] Patrick Sammon: Wait, I want the other question.
[53:01] Andrew: Yeah, go ahead.
[53:02] Patrick Sammon: Do you like sand?
[53:03] Andrew: Yeah, do you like sand?
[53:04] Matt Ligouri: I like sand.
[53:05] Andrew: Sand or litter?
[53:06] Patrick Sammon: Sand or litter.
[53:07] Matt Ligouri: What am I, a cat?
[53:09] Andrew: This is bad.
[53:10] Patrick Sammon: This is bad.
[53:11] Andrew: We're getting, the discourse is running dry.
[53:13] Matt Ligouri: I like sand.
[53:14] Andrew: I just want it far away from my house.
[53:15] Patrick Sammon: No, I really love, I think like honestly, front runner for title of app is sand or litter.
[53:21] Andrew: I really love that.
[53:24] Matt Ligouri: Are there other parts of this performance that you guys wanted to talk about? Other notes you had?
[53:28] Patrick Sammon: No, I'm done.
[53:30] Andrew: My big question was, and you held my hand when you told me this, that it wasn't canon because Mercedes doesn't like sand.
[53:41] Patrick Sammon: What movies were popular that summer?
[53:44] Andrew: That was like summer 2011.
[53:47] Matt Ligouri: That might have been, oh, that was like Bridesmaids summer.
[53:50] Patrick Sammon: Why do I feel like there was discourse before when Alison was on the pod about what movies the class members would have seen in high school?
[53:59] Andrew: No, I think we had an episode where.
[54:02] Andrew: We went through the entire Glee Club and we said, who would be Barbie and who would be Oppenheimer? Um, anyway, yo, I think we do need to, we need to pull the next song.
[54:12] Matt Ligouri: Okay.
[54:13] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[54:14] Andrew: Twist my arm. Okay. I really like that. Summer Nights is really- But it shouldn't have beaten Your Love Is My Love. I'll say that loud and clear.
[54:23] Matt Ligouri: This is crazy. This is insane. I think that we're talking with the right people about this one.
[54:29] Patrick Sammon: If it's yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm gone, gone, gone.
[54:33] Andrew: It is, it is not. You would have seen a larger reaction from me for that one. You know what this is.
[54:39] Matt Ligouri: Oh.
[54:41] Andrew: I voted this one through.
[54:45] Patrick Sammon: No.
[54:45] Andrew: Wait, is this Fighter or is this the mashup?
[54:48] Matt Ligouri: Uh, it is Fighter.
[54:50] Andrew: Oh, I'm gonna fucking kill this. Fuck this song.
[54:56] Patrick Sammon: Hit play.
[54:57] Andrew: Hit play. Get this shit over with. This show, this show is so, I sometimes forget how stupid this show is.
[55:12] Matt Ligouri: Andrew, get ready to break a tie, my friend.
[55:14] Andrew: Um.
[55:16] Matt Ligouri: Go ahead. What are you thinking? You love.
[55:18] Andrew: I love. I love this.
[55:20] Matt Ligouri: I had a good time watching.
[55:21] Andrew: I love. I love. I love.
[55:24] Patrick Sammon: I'm going to be on mute for a second. You guys take over.
[55:27] Andrew: And you're just going to scream. Please go.
[55:32] Matt Ligouri: He's like, I can't let you just really like say good things about this and we not react. Um, no, I love a passionate Darren Criss number. There are so many of them and I love all of them.
[55:41] Patrick Sammon: Yeah, there are a lot.
[55:42] Matt Ligouri: I really do. Yeah. And, and they all deserve to make it far, uh, because they are my consistent streams. Like I will play this. I don't think I'll skip this generally at all.
[55:53] Andrew: Um, and especially watching it back, like. Give him all the awards, give him every single award. He's, he's getting like every bit of emotion. Granted the storyline is stupid as hell, but I'm still getting the emotion that he's trying to convey here.
[56:07] Matt Ligouri: Uh, every single ounce of it, those back muscles are back muscling, uh, had an idea and an execution.
[56:16] Andrew: Yeah. And he executed it. Yeah. Um, and then, I mean, the ridiculousness of him getting up on that stage, just like, looking up at all the screens and just like screaming. Like I live, this is my glee. I love this. And yeah.
[56:31] Patrick Sammon: Um, I, I don't, I'm in a really silly goofy mood today. If in case it hasn't been made very clear, um, I really loved, I never really thought about this, but Blaine walking down the hallway and passing the two girls watching a commercial.
[56:52] Andrew: And it's like, he's everywhere. You can't get rid of him. I just think it's so the concept of being with your friend and being like, let's watch a commercial. You know, if this was like today, they'd be watching a TikTok and they'd get this ad or something like that as, as the current version of a commercial. But yes, back then.
[57:11] Matt Ligouri: Yeah.
[57:12] Andrew: Not sure what that's all about. I thought about it some more and I was like, okay, no, if I needed to like unpack this, these girls story, like what led them to, to watching a commercial.
[57:22] Patrick Sammon: The guy roaming.
[57:23] Andrew: Yeah. They saw him and then they watched it.
[57:26] Matt Ligouri: Yeah.
[57:28] Andrew: Yeah. Okay. All right. All right. I get history wise. I do think it's interesting, right? So emotional is gone now.
[57:34] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[57:35] Andrew: Yeah. So that would be crazy. All right. Great. Cool. We brought popcorn, Patrick.
[57:39] Matt Ligouri: All right. I want everybody to know there's no way you don't know this already. If you listen to this podcast fighter beat so emotional in round one, it's been talked about up the ass a million times. That's how stupid that was.
[57:54] Andrew: And so now here we are.
[57:57] Patrick Sammon: Wait, what? Tell me a straight face, Matt, that you would vote for this over. So emotional.
[58:00] Matt Ligouri: I would.
[58:03] Andrew: God, what the fuck? I hate that so much.
[58:10] Patrick Sammon: Wait, what did this? So emotional went out recently. I'm sorry, Andrew, I'm cutting you off.
[58:14] Andrew: No, you're good. So emotional went out recently and I said, that's sad. I think it should have gone further, but I was okay with it.
[58:22] Matt Ligouri: This one against Arthur's theme in round two, which I stand by it. It's fine.
[58:28] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[58:29] Andrew: All right. I'll give, I'll give not flowers to the song, but I will give dandelions. I liked.
[58:35] Matt Ligouri: Weed.
[58:40] Patrick Sammon: I'll say.
[58:40] Andrew: Litter. I have, I have not, this isn't my favorite episode. No, I can't say I've like actually watched that performance through many times. I feel like usually I skip this episode altogether or I fast forward through fighter because I, the thing is like, it's a fine song. It's just like the, the Glackett lore of it makes me angry, makes my blood actually boil that it like, like so emotional anyway.
[59:09] Matt Ligouri: So I'll, I'll separate that from the rest of this. I was laughing really hard during this because again, part of the reason why, and we've discussed in this podcast before why we don't like this episode all the time is because Quinn got into a fucking car crash. So it was a hiatus. And then it was like, actually, this is a blind episode. Everybody sit down. So you're sitting down, especially Quinn.
[59:34] Patrick Sammon: And that's about what I'm about to say, which is there's a, a scene during the song where Blaine is watching all of his fellow glee clubbers in a sitting in a circle around Cooper. And like, they're spinning around and stuff. And just like to see Diana, like sitting in the chair, like just being like, all right, like I'm in a chair now. Like this is, this is what my character, no one cares. Fun choices, like sugars, like sugars doing like she's making choices. Like Diana's just like sitting there, like I'm getting paid to do this, I guess. Get me out, get me the fuck out of this chair.
[1:00:15] Andrew: And Matt's point about like how, like maybe both of you are saying this, like how I kind of fun it is genuinely very fun, high camp, high drama for like such low stakes, which is one of the things that's more fun about glee. But I, I don't think that in any universe, this is better than so emotional, but here we are three rounds later, whatever. It's still here.
[1:00:41] Patrick Sammon: Yeah, I do. This does have a, what's it called? When you're like, wanting to kill something, it's like it has something on its back.
[1:00:48] Andrew: Oh, it's a target on its back.
[1:00:56] Patrick Sammon: It's a target on its back for me. I think I made that clear by saying that word like seven times. But it's, I can have a conversation about it. Sure. Whatever. I do not think this should be summer nights. Andrew, if you do this, I'm going to be mad at you.
[1:01:19] Andrew: Um, here's if you, if you don't do this, I'm going to be mad.
[1:01:23] Patrick Sammon: I'm Andrew. Don't I'm thinking you have to believe me. I'm sharing the screen in the middle of the performance.
[1:01:37] Andrew: Um, I just, oh my God. Like the, I'm really understanding how silly this performance, big brain alert. Um, the fact that a grown man is in a high school locker room. Uh, we're talking of course about, uh, Cooper Anderson, um, is really hilarious to me that he's just casually there. Um, and then also who the hell is that man? This guy. You see him?
[1:02:06] Matt Ligouri: Yeah.
[1:02:08] Andrew: You see him, right? I'm not making him up. Right.
[1:02:13] Patrick Sammon: And he's just like, I'll play it. Oh, I'm going to play the shot back because like, he's just standing there.
[1:02:20] Matt Ligouri: Yeah, they just put some extras in the locker room.
[1:02:23] Andrew: Why is that? Why are there two grown men in this locker room?
[1:02:27] Patrick Sammon: Well, oh yeah. Cause there was also another guy that walked past, but that looked like one of Blaine's peers that was also working out.
[1:02:35] Matt Ligouri: One of Blaine's best friends.
[1:02:37] Patrick Sammon: Yes.
[1:02:38] Andrew: Okay. Guys, guys, guys. Hilarious, silly camp. It's not better than summer nights. I just want to say you said guys, but just talk to Andrew. Cause you're not getting me.
[1:02:46] Matt Ligouri: Andrew, don't, don't do this shit.
[1:02:52] Andrew: I know you don't think this is better than summer nights.
[1:02:54] Matt Ligouri: I, I really, I used to be like a fucking hater. It was like kind of like character of me. That was like, I hate everything about this episode. I am seeing the light. Can we just say, yeah, it's funny. It's not as bad as I made it out to be whatever, but like, it's not better than summer nights. Like, cause think about it. Think about it. Like they really in summer nights, they integrate like the cast in a way that's like so fun.
[1:03:26] Patrick Sammon: I don't really remember all of the discourse with like the Kurt stuff, but like, I think it's hilarious that he has Rizzo's line. Like, it's so funny and like, so unexpected. And it's like, so cute. We love Sam Sadie's.
[1:03:42] Matt Ligouri: I also, not to make this all about me, I have never voted against a Blaine song. I've always done the right thing. Don't start now. I've never done it.
[1:03:50] Patrick Sammon: Don't start now.
[1:03:53] Matt Ligouri: And so like, but now it's like, we're, we're done. This cannot go any farther. This is not better than summer nights.
[1:04:00] Andrew: You're locking in Patrick. You're locking in a vote for summer nights.
[1:04:03] Patrick Sammon: Yes.
[1:04:05] Andrew: Let me think about it. Verbal confirmation.
[1:04:06] Patrick Sammon: Yes. Yes, I am.
[1:04:08] Matt Ligouri: Um, and Matt, can you verbal, verbally communicate your vote?
[1:04:14] Matt Ligouri: My vote, Matthew Hudson Morrison, uh, is for, um, fighter. Uh, and that's exactly what I'm going to do. If Andrew doesn't vote with me, I'm going to fight her.
[1:04:26] Andrew: Oh my God. Stop, stop, stop, stop. Don't stop doing this. Stop.
[1:04:34] Matt Ligouri: I am, I'm voting for summer night.
[1:04:36] Andrew: Okay, good. I was like, I was nervous.
[1:04:40] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[1:04:41] Andrew: Oh, were you? I was, I'm out of breath. Um, summer nights, just like really cutesy. And I love the last shot of big Mercedes head.
[1:04:54] Matt Ligouri: Stop flipping me off. It's rude.
[1:04:58] Andrew: This is, this is common for an episode with the three of us.
[1:05:04] Matt Ligouri: Yeah, because last time, um.
[1:05:05] Andrew: I'm starting to think you only invite me into this trio here because I'm going to get outnumbered.
[1:05:13] Matt Ligouri: We don't like your opinions. Sorry.
[1:05:18] Andrew: That's so rude. I'm so sorry, man. If Darren Chris kept his fucking shirt on the whole time, would you feel different?
[1:05:24] Matt Ligouri: Yes.
[1:05:25] Andrew: No.
[1:05:26] Matt Ligouri: Oh no. Listen, I stream, I watch, I love you saw me or maybe you didn't see me. Uh, summer nights. I was like, oh, I'm vibing. This is fun. And then fighter every step of the way, belting out the words, putting the boxing gloves up, having fun.
[1:05:43] Patrick Sammon: Yeah.
[1:05:43] Andrew: Taking a shower. You know, this concept is really good for a podcast because like we started the episode and we're all kind of just like, oh, like it's Sunday. Like, yeah. Kind of mellow. And I was screaming. The sun is down. Now we're, we're getting mean and I'm really feel bad about it.
[1:06:00] Patrick Sammon: My son's still up.
[1:06:00] Andrew: My son's still up as well. Midwest is best. Um, okay. Let's do another competition.
[1:06:05] Matt Ligouri: Oh, is it a fucking quarterback song?
[1:06:09] Andrew: No, I was thinking about it the other day. Like, are there still those left?
[1:06:13] Patrick Sammon: No, I just draw them every time I'm on.
[1:06:16] Andrew: I feel like, no, we, I put, I put all the quarterback songs back into the cup and we're going to watch all of them.
[1:06:25] Matt Ligouri: Okay.
[1:06:25] Andrew: Why, why are the somber attitude about this then? What is it?
[1:06:28] Patrick Sammon: Uh, come on boy. You know what it is?
[1:06:31] Andrew: Oh, I mean, there are lots of leaks who would shit themselves to pull this. I'm not one of them.
[1:06:38] Matt Ligouri: I don't know what this is.
[1:06:41] Andrew: This is for good.
[1:06:42] Patrick Sammon: It's for good.
[1:06:45] Andrew: Okay. Let's watch it.
[1:06:46] Patrick Sammon: I'm sorry that I'm low energy about this. I might change my mind.
[1:06:51] Andrew: They do not speak anymore.
[1:06:55] Patrick Sammon: And we know that she had, she had their baby and they, they left.
[1:06:59] Andrew: My favorite thing about that is that you're talking about, you're talking about the characters, both bears, Chris and Leah, and also Rachel.
[1:07:11] Matt Ligouri: My favorite thing about this is how me and Andrew are kind of gleeking out and Matt's just like, Hey, I could tell that you were gleeking out inside.
[1:07:23] Andrew: Me?
[1:07:24] Matt Ligouri: Yeah.
[1:07:25] Andrew: No, I'm still sad.
[1:07:26] Matt Ligouri: Why are you sad?
[1:07:27] Andrew: About the last competition?
[1:07:28] Matt Ligouri: He's talking about this.
[1:07:29] Andrew: He's still on that shit. Okay, whatever.
[1:07:32] Andrew: Now I'm sorry Matt. I do I feel like later tonight. I will message you both and I'll be like I'm sorry. I made a big mistake.
[1:07:43] Patrick: Hmm.
[1:07:46] Andrew: Because that's not real and the votes are locked in. The voting is closed. I think it's closed. I'll say because I knew you I've been changed for good and then we'll never speak again. I think that you've been changed for bad.
[1:08:01] Matt: Yeah.
[1:08:03] Andrew: Every time we link up we always vote against you. It's hard to sing along with this one. I mean, I'm glad you guys did but it's just like you said Patrick with just all the cuts. It's yeah, where are we going? Where are we going next? I don't yeah, I can't trust this version because of that.
[1:08:23] Matt: One thing that I really like is that Chris and Leah both did a really good job of like channeling their like inner theater kid for that. Because if I had the chance to do that in high school, it's like one of my best friends from like my stupid theater shit that I did. I would have done the exact same thing. I would have been like, you know, crystal eyes and you know, whatever and they just be letting teens into the Gershwin theater. They do, there's they do.
[1:08:54] Andrew: We've all been there, come on teens.
[1:08:58] Matt: But no, I mean like I think sometimes when I am evaluating whether I like a performance or not, like I do try to put my mind back in high school and like remember how I felt as like someone in the performing arts in high school and a lot of times like when that feeling shines through that's ultimately why I gravitate toward that towards this show and still do so. I will not understate that. I really love that.
[1:09:28] Patrick: What I don't like about this one as much which has been talked about ad nauseum is like that they just kind of randomly decided to make Kurt and Rachel like best friends around this time and we were just supposed to kind of believe that but I suppose like this was a good way to do that because I don't see Kurt and Mercedes like sneaking into the Gershwin theater to do this. But I definitely see Rachel and Kurt doing it.
[1:09:56] Andrew: So I guess it was about that have the summer of her life. She's about to watch Bridesmaids with a she's hooking up with Sam.
[1:10:06] Matt: No, she and Sam were actually throwing shit into the river.
[1:10:12] Andrew: Littering during this and flirting and setting up their relationship. So on my statement by saying when I see this I think about how I don't love that they like decided to do that with those characters but then at the same point, I actually do understand why that made sense for the characters and for the show to like, you know, take it to the New York level and like make it musical theater-y whatever. So, um, I just had a lot of stuff, but ultimately I like this one but I think it's certainly one that I could see getting beat easily if we draw something mildly good.
[1:10:50] Patrick: Yeah, I like what you said about the theater kid stuff because while I wasn't quite on stage as much, I was the stage manager of my shows. So I was firmly still a theater kid and just like the idea of yeah, like to see them get to like go live out this dream and just like go on the big stage and like, you know, you know what the theater kids in high school like their dreams and aspirations are like you can feel that even though not a lot of kids in high school know what they want to do but the theater kids feel like they want to make it big and they know the path to that so you can you can feel that.
[1:11:25] Andrew: Yes, I totally agree with what both of you are saying. I really love there's a certain shot that I'd never really kind of like stood out to me of her on stage singing out or maybe he's just like listening to Rachel or everything and it's like so bright like the lights there's so much light on him which I think like obviously comes through that it's like, okay, well, he's being glitz and glam of Broadway is really shot that I saw kind of for the first time this time that made me say what I said.
[1:12:02] Matt: Yes, well, you know what you're talking about? Yeah, so, um, beautiful, uh, I was thinking I yesterday that it's sad that this girl took out Tightrope in round one that makes no sense to me at all. I feel like really bad like because I saw a drag queen on Friday night and do the Samantha Ware version of Tightrope and I was just like damn. This is so fucking good. Really really good. So I miss her I would have voted for for good but I understand the sadness I understand what this went against last round, but also I think that like in round one if I pulled this I feel like I'd be like, well, this is like kind of integral to like how I understand Glee where his Tightrope was like a season 6 11th hour number of like there's all the talented people on the show and it's fine but this is kind of more like central to the core of the show.
[1:13:03] Patrick: So this be maybe I wouldn't have voted for Tightrope and it beat one of us last round.
[1:13:10] Matt: Yeah, that makes sense.
[1:13:12] Andrew: Yeah, I remember being in the car listening to this matchup.
[1:13:16] Matt: And you're you're in the car right now. Although they can't be get in.
[1:13:20] Andrew: Yeah, we're voting against you.
[1:13:24] Matt: Not on my watch I'm driving over to your house, but okay man, like let's say we pull something that's like good and whatever combination of us ends up voting against this one. Do you think that you like you'll be sad to see this one go cuz for me maybe I'm like wicked burned out, but I'm kind of like I could burn like sure like if we don't see this again, that's okay.
[1:13:47] Patrick: No, I'm totally open to whatever is about to come next.
[1:13:51] Matt: Yeah, I'm good. If this goes we'll be okay. I'm gonna be really normal whatever happens.
[1:13:59] Andrew: Here we go to the wicked stands listening we will keep you in mind and what was that last word that you said mind which is close to kind what are you gonna make me cry on the zoom call?
[1:14:15] Matt: I'm gonna make mine.
[1:14:19] Andrew: Matt I don't think I can do this.
[1:14:23] Matt: Hmm wait, can you really do it? Are you being no cuz I don't trust you to anymore. I'm a Swiftie.
[1:14:38] Andrew: Okay, I might sing the entire song I watched this episode yesterday. You're like on to police tomorrow. I appreciate you checking in if I could really not do this or not.
[1:14:50] Matt: Wow, I agree. Do you think that Heather Morris after the premiere of this episode on her like Instagram bio it said like dancer singer actress she moved actress to the front actress first. She's doing real good here.
[1:15:09] Patrick: She's eating it up. My bigger question is do you think that she would vote for Disco Inferno over this?
[1:15:14] Matt: Oscar next time I see her. Um, yeah, she's she's working here. Both of them are I would say you might say that like, you know, Naya has the easier job of singing and you just convey the emotion as you sing the song there but definitely points to Heather for just yeah, it's a lot of sitting in silence for your just just observing and you got to tell the story. I feel like Allison pointed out to me I can't see this song the same way anymore that it's crazy that they're just sitting and it's like if someone was like walking by and like just like oh those lesbians are really emoting here and like really the volume is high.
[1:16:02] Andrew: If someone was like shouting in a way.
[1:16:05] Matt: In the other room.
[1:16:14] Andrew: Think anyone walks past the glee club room and is ever like surprised that they hear they'd be doing crazy shit and they walk by the doors are open. Have the doors the doors are open.
[1:16:25] Matt: Yeah, why do they keep the doors open?
[1:16:28] Andrew: stresses me out.
[1:16:30] Matt: No, it's I don't think nothing faces anybody at that school. One day we can make a layout of like what we think happens outside of that hallway like which what's what's to the left? What's to the right? It's crazy. How big the choir room is just like for what like they're like, oh we make no money like but it's like a huge fucking room and is Will's office still in the choir room after season one? Like do we still ever or do we ever mention that again?
[1:16:58] Andrew: It's still there like there's.
[1:17:00] Matt: Yeah, and like I think we can see some like City of Angels I think the episode starts with like him being like Sam you're the captain of the glee club in the office, which is kind of easy because it's like in the first episode. Obviously they shot on like an actual school, but the the Finn and Will scene in the office, that's what's this are we to expect that his office was always next to the glee club, I think so.
[1:17:32] Andrew: That's interesting. Yeah, I wonder if he was in there during this performance.
[1:17:38] Matt: That's the first time anyone in the world has ever like made that connection because like the writers of the show. We're just like no one's gonna like care about this and here March 1st 2026 finally, we found that error.
[1:17:54] Andrew: Mercedes doesn't like sand either. I don't know if you heard but breaking news.
[1:18:01] Matt: Breaking news Mercedes doesn't like sand and Will's office has always been by the choir room.
[1:18:10] Andrew: Really good impression Matt you don't know what it's like how good that impression is. It's that's really oh, it's a specific person.
[1:18:16] Matt: I was just getting newscaster.
[1:18:19] Andrew: I'm a nasal nasal bitch, you know, um mine. I really love it. I have no, that was it's like a really emotional song and we should not be having a silly conversation around it.
[1:18:32] Patrick: Um, I'm still gonna be silly. Do we think the same question is Summer Nights? Was it canon the things talked about in this song?
[1:18:44] Andrew: Well, no, I mean immediately Brittany was not in college yet. Did did they have a fight at 2:30 a.m.?
[1:18:48] Patrick: I don't think you ever fought. I mean she Santana was missing some Skype calls.
[1:18:58] Andrew: Um, yeah, and also like low-key Brittany doesn't get enough shit for this. She uploaded porn of them together to the Internet without Santana's consent.
[1:19:06] Patrick: Mm-hmm.
[1:19:11] Andrew: Sometimes 2:30 a.m. When you get into a fight about that it really reached a peak.
[1:19:18] Matt: So I'm a Swiftie but I'm also like a little bit of a later in life Swiftie where I didn't like really get into Taylor Swift until like 1989 which is like 2014 and this episode.
[1:19:29] Andrew: 99 is 1989. I'm being mean and weird and.
[1:19:45] Matt: Okay, breaking news.
[1:19:49] Andrew: No, I'm annoying. All right, so yeah.
[1:19:54] Matt: So yeah, basically I so when this came out I wasn't like a Taylor Stan like Swiftie person like I then became later. So this was actually I'd heard the song Mine before but this is the first time where I like really paid attention to it and for years like years, I thought the lyric was fly at risk like it was an at risk of like getting like swattered. There's a lot of so many songs that I'm like, I just make up shit and it's a flight at risk but now even when I listen to the you know, Taylor Swift versions because there's two of them or the you know, we want I'm always like fly at risk fly at risk and then I just like imagine a little fly like getting like a like zooming away being afraid of falling. Yeah.
[1:20:49] Matt: Even though it's literally in the name. Also just like a little Swiftie moment like how could people say that she's not a good songwriter and like she wrote the song by herself when she was like 20, it's really good. Um, you got you guys.
[1:21:32] Andrew: What a real couple in this scenario kind of breaks up over. It's like, hey, we're both going to college and we try to make it work, but it's not working. They're being adults. This is like a turkey dump, but done maturely. And it's kind of the most real one. The other breakups in this episode are, I don't want to say far-fetched, because there's certainly things that can happen to people and couples and stuff. But this one is the most mature one, has a really good song with it. It's really beautiful. You can tell that they still love each other. You can tell that it's kind of coming from a place of, we think this is best, as opposed to, this is our only option based off of what has transpired. And I love the scene and song and episode. And I think this is great. And I agree, the acting from both of them is stupendous.
[1:22:28] Andrew: Actress first, Heather Morris. It's the best episode of Glee, IMO. I've done the Glackett, the episode Glackett. For me, it's number one. And for me, this song has, I've always called it my number two favorite song on the hit Fox show, Glee.
[1:22:44] Matt: Wait, I'm being really dumb. What's number one?
[1:22:47] Andrew: I don't know if you're being dumb. You just talked to a lot of Gleeks. But it's always been Cough Syrup.
[1:22:52] Matt: Okay.
[1:22:53] Andrew: If I really revisited with a little bit more of my modern Gleek brain, I don't know exactly how it shakes out. But just the etched in something somewhere.
[1:23:05] Patrick: But talk to IMO Gleemo.
[1:23:07] Andrew: Yeah, I mean, why do you think I wanted Fighter? Sensing a pattern here? I wanted Fighter. I look for the emotion. What was this against? What was the last song? Oh, For Good.
[1:23:20] Matt: Yeah, yeah. Oh, I wanted to say, my last thing that I want to say is, just like For Good, which it is against, there are really crazy noticeable cuts in this one, too.
[1:23:39] Andrew: Do you know, Patrick, you know what I'm talking about?
[1:23:42] Patrick: Yeah. I remember that fight, 238 AM. That's a cut, I think, that is noticeable.
[1:23:47] Andrew: Yeah. And it's like, it's, that's jarring to me. But you were talking about the breakup, obviously. And Patrick, you were talking about watching this episode and also Gleece today. Did you watch Roller You Were Born To Play? The episode between those two?
[1:24:09] Patrick: Yes, I did. I watched that today. I watched the breakup when I was in New York this weekend, when I was like eating by myself at places. And I watched the Roller You Were Born To Play through, I stopped at Glee actually, because who wants to watch that episode?
[1:24:24] Andrew: No, I don't like, I don't want to watch Roller You Were Born To Play. And also, like, I have that episode. I don't like it. It's like, it's, I was thinking about it. And I wrote this down. But I feel like there are three episodes that are like, not great in my book, that all have the through line of being after a really great episode, that it's like, kind of a stinker. I'm thinking about Pot of Gold, after Asian Ass.
[1:24:54] Matt: Yeah, after that song.
[1:24:55] Andrew: Not like, just like, okay, why are we doing this after that, like, perfect episode? Big Brother, right after On My Way, I'm like, why are we doing this? And also Roller You Were Born To Play after the breakup, I'm like, oh, well, here's Ryder. Here, like, it's just, I don't know. That's my thought.
[1:25:15] Matt: You notice that two of the three that you mentioned were like, introing people who are uninteresting, who won the Glee Project.
[1:25:23] Andrew: They know, they're interesting.
[1:25:26] Matt: You can cut that if you want, but like, those characters.
[1:25:28] Andrew: No, I think, no, that's fine. I just think they just didn't utilize, this is a larger conversation. They just didn't utilize these characters.
[1:25:36] Patrick: Except that the characters are uninteresting.
[1:25:38] Andrew: Um, okay. Hey!
[1:25:41] Matt: Hey, guys!
[1:25:42] Andrew: So, anything final that we need to say about Mine? Matt, I mean, we're, we're, like, gonna vote that song through, I think.
[1:25:50] Matt: Are you?
[1:25:51] Andrew: You're going to Disney World.
[1:25:54] Matt: Um, I'll, you know, I'll be interested how Mine holds up in future rounds. I mean, not, like, next round. I would hope that I don't have to worry about next round. But, like, when we really get down to it, and we're really starting to look at contenders, I don't know. I mean, I know how I feel about it, uh, but.
[1:26:12] Andrew: I think that, like, the cuts, for me, I think might be the fatal flaw. At least for me. I think that that will be the thing that gets it in the end, in what I tell myself.
[1:26:24] Patrick: That's really interesting, Andrew, because I feel like that, like, cut, the cuts discourse has been, like, more prevalent recently than it, like, was in rounds past. So.
[1:26:36] Andrew: Well, I think, I think we're, we're kind of just running out of things to say.
[1:26:39] Patrick: Sure, sure. But I guess, yeah, like, what's the best song on Glee? Is it one that, like, kind of is edited together in, like, kind of a sloppy way, just because they couldn't have the full song in? Like, maybe that's a, a factor that, yeah, will be a more relevant one.
[1:26:56] Andrew: We need to have these conversations. They're really important. Okay, are we ready to vote?
[1:27:02] Matt: Yeah, but one thing, one final thing I'll say about this is I really like this song. And, um, I, but the thing is, like, I don't know if it's, like, a top contender for me or a lot of other Gleeks. So Matt, I feel like you kind of got lucky that, like, it was something that was, like, a little, like, middling. Because, like, I love this song, but, like, I feel like I don't see it going much farther. Like, I'll give it, like, it's a fair shake if I'm on an episode again with it, but.
[1:27:30] Andrew: Fair shake. I think Matt, like, even, like, at the start of the episode, we were, like, we're going to talk about Diana. And you're, like, Jesus, like, they're going to vote against my songs. And they, we have to sit here and listen to you guys talk about your life. Matt, I'm not just saying this because, like, I am, like, taking any form of, like, pity on you or anything, but because, like, we talked about the Diana thing and also you were voted out of the last competition. But genuinely, like, you and I, compliment, being Ernest Hour, you and I really see eye to eye on so many things that, like, when you were explaining not being a stage person, like, not being, like, an actor, as they would say, in high school, but rather doing, like, behind the scenes, like, production. Like, it's, like, that was also, like, that's totally up my alley. Love you so much. Ernest Hour.
[1:28:37] Matt: But he still votes for me for all the competitions, so just so you know.
[1:28:41] Andrew: No, that doesn't take away anything.
[1:28:44] Matt: Is there a but?
[1:28:45] Andrew: There's no but.
[1:28:46] Matt: Okay.
[1:28:47] Andrew: But I still agree with Patrick. I'm joking. That is wonderful. I think it takes all kinds, it takes all kinds of weeks.
[1:28:55] Matt: It takes all kinds, exactly. And I, oh my god, Matt, I am biggest fan alert. I think that you do so much great work and the fact that you can, well, I'm on the Patreon. On the last episode that I did was a live episode and Daniella, shout out Daniella, was like, I only listened to this because of Choir Room. So.
[1:29:14] Matt: I did have to make sure I commented on that episode and shouted her out.
[1:29:19] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:29:19] Matt: Yeah. We still get comments on that from time to time. People commenting on, like, the Spotify, like, on an episode. I'm like, I'm so glad that this hasn't been erased from the internet yet. Just because, you know, Andrew knows. They come for you. They come for you.
[1:29:31] Andrew: They get your ass. Okay. I do need to be out the door in nine minutes. So let's damn vote.
[1:29:39] Matt: All right. I will bravely vote for mine as you guys vote for good.
[1:29:44] Patrick: Yep.
[1:29:45] Matt: Yep. That's the test. And then Andrew and I were texting on the side. Yep.
[1:29:50] Andrew: Let me butter him up. Let me give him a big gobble of ass.
[1:29:56] Matt: Um, no, I'm voting for mine.
[1:29:58] Patrick: I'm voting for mine.
[1:30:01] Andrew: Yay. Not next round, everybody. Don't get your hopes up. This is going all that far.
[1:30:04] Matt: I don't need to say that to, like, tear you down.
[1:30:07] Patrick: Giving it a good shake is crazy. That's crazy phrasing.
[1:30:12] Andrew: I'll give it a good shake.
[1:30:16] Matt: Now talk. Um, all right. So in recap for this episode, what even happened? Um, Summer Nights.
[1:30:24] Andrew: Oh my gosh. It's, it's, uh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, Summer Nights. Oh, um, okay.
[1:30:31] Andrew: Summer Nights. Oh, I think, okay. Summer Nights. Oh, it's hot in summer. It's also hot in hell. Summer Nights. Uh, you're not going to hell. You're going forward. I don't know. Stupid as hell. Just, I'm so the fucking dumbest person.
[1:30:48] Matt: Um, and that stupid Andrew, stupid, um, fighter, fighter. You, you gave it a good fight, but you didn't win. Um, and then for good, you're, you're out of the glacket for good. Um, I could see that back though. There are some gleeks that are don't don't.
[1:31:05] Patrick: What are Wicked stans called? Wicked Deers? Wicked Tears?
[1:31:21] Andrew: Orienators?
[1:31:24] Matt: Um, yeah, what are they called? Wicked Witches?
[1:31:28] Andrew: Yeah, that's, I was going to say witches.
[1:31:31] Matt: Mime. What? I'm like, you're the best thing that's ever been mine. In round four. You are the, you are not a fly at risk.
[1:31:40] Andrew: You are not a fly at risk. You are in round four.
[1:31:44] Matt: You're not at risk anymore. You like Sam.
[1:31:47] Andrew: Um, okay. We can just be silly. Just three guys just being silly as hell. Um, thank you so much. This has been really incredible two hours spent with two of my bestest friends. And I believe that they both have social media that they really want to, they said that they really want to talk about promoting it at the end of the episode. So here we are. Um, Patrick, do you want to do that? Because you, you sent me an email saying that you really, yes.
[1:32:12] Patrick: Um, my Instagram's at Patty Salmon. Hit me up if you want to talk about glee. That's all. It makes me so happy to see. I do. I, I love, I love the gleeks. I, I, I like their stories and their Instagram posts. Really sweet. Especially, especially after a night at, uh, Cafe Carlisle. When, when I, the, the drinks are starting to, uh, feel like I'm swiping up on every damn story.
[1:32:43] Matt: Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Um, all right, Matt, let's go.
[1:32:48] Matt: I, um, I am, uh, find me on my other podcasts if you're looking for me, uh, rather than just, you know, social media, cause that's all like bad and scary most of the time, besides when I'm posting about my cats. Um, but yeah, I'm talking about a lot of reality TV all the time. Diary Room podcast is a Gleek of the Week podcast, but it's about Big Brother instead. And, uh, no, um, we are actually recording our first episode of round two tomorrow.
[1:33:17] Andrew: What? That is huge. It's crazy, right? How long did it take you to get through round one?
[1:33:23] Matt: A year and a half. Wow. How long was your round one?
[1:33:27] Andrew: I think like seven years. No, I think it was like two and a half. It was a little over two.
[1:33:33] Matt: Crazy. Yeah. Yeah. Um, so that's happening on the Diary Room, myself and Iman. Um, and then I'm also talking about, uh, we just watched, uh, the whole season of The Traitors along with probably many of you out there. Um, at least Ian. Um, and, uh, uh, we're watching the challenge old school seasons right now. We're talking about House of Villains, which is, uh, made its way to Peacock. So that's all on the Free Agents podcast. If you're looking for that, otherwise I'll be back here, hopefully at some point to have more of my dreams crush.
[1:34:03] Andrew: Oh my God. You just got a dream granted. Are there other groups of people that you're paired with where, like, you always get told no?
[1:34:08] Matt: Um, no. I usually get what I want.
[1:34:18] Andrew: Um, okay. Love you so much. And there's going to be another episode next week. I guess I gotta book it. Um, see you then. Okay. Okay. Bye. It's Gleek. Gleek of the week.
