[0:00] Andrew: We've got a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.
[0:09] Andrew: There's no rhyme or reason to it, so don't get mad at me.
[0:18] Andrew: Glacket by Glacket, we'll rank everyone to see which song will move closer to spot number one.
[0:26] Andrew: Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week, it's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
[0:35] Andrew: We're gonna Glacket, we're gonna Glacket, gonna find the best song on Glee, and who is it gonna be with?
[0:46] Andrew: It's we, we as in Emilee and Patrick.
[0:57] Emilee: That was really good.
[0:58] Patrick: Wow.
[1:01] Andrew: Thank you.
[1:03] Emilee: She was too stunned to speak.
[1:05] Andrew: As you can tell, I've been rehearsing that kind of like for the past few weeks.
[1:10] Patrick: Yeah, it shows.
[1:11] Andrew: And it was really nice of us to bring it for, yeah.
[1:14] Emilee: Yeah.
[1:15] Patrick: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:16] Andrew: I think it's like kind of in the final form.
[1:18] Andrew: Anyway, Emilee and Patrick, I just like, I really feel like I really wanted like a chill kind of vibe.
[1:28] Andrew: I just went upstate for the weekend.
[1:32] Andrew: And I was like, you know what, when I come back on Sunday in the evening, I want to continue the fall, like, like chill vibe.
[1:42] Andrew: And who better to do it with, with the two chillest Gleeks I know, Emilee and Patrick.
[1:48] Patrick: And I don't actually mean that for Patrick.
[1:50] Emilee: Wow.
[1:51] Patrick: I was about to say like, damn, I mean, Emilee is a very chill Gleek.
[1:56] Andrew: Every time you're on the podcast, Emilee, I feel my heart rate, you know, normalize, for sure.
[2:05] Emilee: Normal.
[2:05] Patrick: It really is.
[2:06] Emilee: It's like Glee ASMR, you know.
[2:09] Andrew: This is Meeting of the Gleeks, your first time on an episode together.
[2:14] Andrew: What are your preconceived notions of each other?
[2:16] Andrew: What an uncomfortable question to ask you both.
[2:19] Andrew: But what are your ideas of each other ahead of this recording?
[2:26] Emilee: Well, Patrick's episodes are always so in depth and high energy and fun.
[2:32] Emilee: And you always are asking the hard hitting questions.
[2:36] Emilee: So, you know, I'm ready to dive into some things tonight.
[2:42] Patrick: I like how the first one was basically like, your episodes are really long.
[2:48] Patrick: But I feel like, I still feel like I am not the longest Gleek.
[2:53] Patrick: I think Connor is.
[2:55] Emilee: Connor really, yeah.
[2:58] Patrick: You're up there.
[2:59] Emilee: The longest Gleek.
[3:01] Patrick: I don't think that's the word that you would use for that.
[3:03] Patrick: But I would say the most talkative Gleek.
[3:07] Emilee: Well, the most chatty, the chattiest Gleek.
[3:09] Patrick: Yeah, I think it's because I'd like to think that we're friends in real life.
[3:13] Patrick: So it's like, I don't think of it as recording a podcast.
[3:17] Patrick: I'm just like, I want to talk to Andrew about everything.
[3:19] Patrick: And then, you know, time goes on.
[3:22] Emilee: But my impressions of Emily.
[3:24] Patrick: Well, first off, fun fact.
[3:27] Patrick: My sister, who probably has never listened to an episode of Gleek of the Week,
[3:30] Patrick: her name is also Emily.
[3:32] Patrick: So you keep saying, like, Patrick and Emily, Emily and Patrick.
[3:35] Patrick: And I'm like, that's, that's kind of, you know, brings me comfort in a way, right?
[3:40] Emilee: Yeah, right.
[3:41] Patrick: Your life.
[3:42] Patrick: But I think it's really cool, because I am in, you know, when those of us who've kind of been listening since the start, or have been here since like, 2021, remember...
[3:55] Emilee: Which I feel both of you have.
[3:56] Patrick: We both have.
[3:57] Patrick: Emily, like, it used to be the case that, you know, the listeners weren't really super involved in the episodes as much at the beginning,
[4:06] Patrick: because it was you and Alice and you're getting, you know, people who are associated with the show or like on TikTok and stuff on the podcast.
[4:13] Patrick: The stars.
[4:13] Emilee: It was a lot of fun.
[4:15] Patrick: But then there were people who kind of like seeped through the cracks and were like,
[4:19] Patrick: I'm going to make my presence known on this podcast.
[4:21] Patrick: And now you're the stars.
[4:22] Emilee: No, but I'm saying like Emily with Emily's Rule was like always so, so very, very iconic to me.
[4:29] Patrick: And for those of you who can't maybe remember about Emily's Rule,
[4:33] Patrick: or have never heard of it before...
[4:34] Emilee: Wait, wait, wait, before you go any further.
[4:37] Emilee: I think that it would be so funny that it's like, because I feel like every time that Emily, you're on an episode,
[4:42] Emilee: we regurgitate what Emily's Rule is.
[4:44] Emilee: Let's just make up like, I think it's like almost like, if you know, you know.
[4:48] Patrick: Right, if you know, you know.
[4:50] Emilee: If you know, you know.
[4:51] Emilee: But also like, let's make up like, let's just retcon what Emily's Rule is and be like,
[4:55] Emilee: Emily's Rule is actually like this.
[4:58] Emilee: And it's like chaotic.
[5:00] Patrick: What are we thinking for what Emily's Rule actually is?
[5:03] Emilee: Oh my god.
[5:05] Emilee: Every Quinn and Santana song has to go through.
[5:08] Emilee: That's Emily's Rule.
[5:11] Emilee: And that's Emily's Rule.
[5:13] Emilee: Every song that I choose and I vote for has to go through.
[5:17] Patrick: That does not happen though.
[5:19] Emilee: Emily's Rule is just whatever gets sway closer to a winner of the glockenspiel.
[5:25] Patrick: That's Emily's Rule.
[5:28] Emilee: Christmas wrapping.
[5:29] Patrick: Get it out of here.
[5:30] Emilee: Christmas wrapping.
[5:30] Patrick: No, Emily, for real.
[5:32] Patrick: I actually thought about this a few times ago when that came up on one of your episodes.
[5:37] Patrick: I was like, I need to get on the pod with Emily and kind of talk about Christmas wrapping.
[5:43] Emilee: I feel like we could make some good content out of that.
[5:46] Patrick: Oh my gosh.
[5:46] Emilee: But no, that's my impression of Emily, that she has flawless takes and is wonderful.
[5:53] Emilee: So that's my answer to your question, Andrew.
[5:56] Andrew: Oh my gosh.
[5:57] Andrew: Two bitches that are like, exactly, exactly, that are talking about Christmas wrapping.
[6:03] Emilee: It was so funny because I was talking to my husband before I came on tonight.
[6:08] Emilee: I'm like, oh man, I hope I pick some good bops.
[6:11] Emilee: And he's like, yeah, you'll get a Christmas song.
[6:13] Emilee: And I said, no, I said there's one left and it's Christmas wrapping and it's going through.
[6:18] Patrick: Oh, sweetie.
[6:19] Andrew: Does your husband know about the Christmas wrapping lore?
[6:24] Emilee: Oh, he knows.
[6:26] Emilee: He knows.
[6:26] Andrew: So does he also not like Christmas wrapping?
[6:28] Emilee: What's his vibe?
[6:29] Emilee: You know, I don't, I'll have to ask him after this.
[6:32] Emilee: He kind of just listens to me rant about it a lot.
[6:36] Emilee: So I don't know if I even let him have an opinion.
[6:40] Patrick: So you do a lot of talking, but not any listening.
[6:43] Patrick: When it pertains to Christmas wrapping.
[6:48] Emilee: Yeah.
[6:49] Andrew: Is your husband a Gleek?
[6:50] Emilee: He is.
[6:51] Emilee: He has watched every single season, every episode, multiple times.
[6:56] Emilee: We listen to the music all the time.
[6:58] Emilee: So we can't really escape it.
[7:00] Andrew: But.
[7:01] Emilee: So is he a Gleek by choice?
[7:05] Emilee: Or by course?
[7:06] Patrick: Or a Gleek.
[7:08] Patrick: What's that thing?
[7:09] Patrick: It's like sisters by chance, by fate, sisters by choice.
[7:15] Emilee: Yeah.
[7:16] Patrick: Friends by choice.
[7:17] Patrick: I know exactly what you're talking about.
[7:18] Emilee: Also, I don't know what you're talking about.
[7:20] Patrick: Gleek by fate or by choice.
[7:24] Patrick: Gleek by choice.
[7:25] Emilee: No, I think it started as a Gleek by force.
[7:28] Emilee: But, you know, I think I've swayed him to our side a little bit.
[7:33] Emilee: He does know a lot.
[7:34] Patrick: Sway mention.
[7:34] Emilee: Sway.
[7:36] Patrick: Sway mention.
[7:37] Patrick: Okay, Emily's rule is in full effect.
[7:40] Andrew: Here we go.
[7:40] Andrew: And here's how Sway can still win the Glackett.
[7:46] Andrew: Oh my gosh.
[7:48] Andrew: All right.
[7:48] Andrew: Well, speaking of the Glackett, it's been a second since both of you have been on.
[7:52] Andrew: Who wants to turn in their homework first as it pertains to Glackett hot takes?
[8:00] Emilee: Go for it, Emily.
[8:01] Emilee: I got my notes here.
[8:03] Emilee: This is what I was doing during my tech rehearsal.
[8:05] Emilee: So don't tell my director.
[8:07] Patrick: I'm telling him.
[8:09] Emilee: Let's see.
[8:10] Emilee: I don't have too many grievances.
[8:12] Emilee: Honestly, since the last time I was on, I've agreed with pretty much everything.
[8:16] Emilee: There's like three big ones.
[8:18] Emilee: Okay.
[8:18] Emilee: So my first one is "Chasing Pavements," which I know has been said.
[8:23] Emilee: I was fortunate to be here, I think in round two when it went through.
[8:28] Patrick: Yes, you were.
[8:30] Emilee: Against "Misery."
[8:31] Patrick: Yes.
[8:32] Emilee: And which was sad because I think that was.
[8:36] Patrick: Oh, wait, was that with Amelia?
[8:38] Emilee: Yeah.
[8:38] Emilee: And she's a big, she was a big fan.
[8:40] Emilee: Misery fan.
[8:41] Patrick: So yeah.
[8:43] Emilee: But I get right.
[8:44] Emilee: Ain't no way.
[8:46] Emilee: You know, it's not like it didn't go through to a not good song.
[8:50] Emilee: It's just.
[8:50] Emilee: But it's like it's tough or they're also like the same font of song.
[8:54] Emilee: Right.
[8:55] Emilee: You know, like a little like jazzy, a big vocalist, you know, like.
[8:59] Emilee: Yeah, it's really the MP4 that kills me of "Chasing Pavements."
[9:03] Emilee: Like that's like, yeah, I when you watch it and the whole it's the whole thing for me.
[9:09] Emilee: That's why I'm like, oh, sad to see.
[9:12] Emilee: But I also will say that with the MP4 of "Ain't No Way," it's like such a, I don't even think that we talked about this in discussion of "Ain't No Way," but like there I there's such a moment where like you're obviously like rooting for Mercedes, but there's that moment that Rachel is like really struggling with.
[9:30] Emilee: Like she gave Mercedes the moment.
[9:33] Emilee: She's also looking out into the audience, seeing Finn with Quinn.
[9:37] Emilee: And she's like, well, what do I got?
[9:40] Emilee: I look around and I don't got shit.
[9:43] Emilee: And it's just like I'm joking, but it's actually like.
[9:45] Patrick: Yeah, it is.
[9:46] Emilee: I feel bad for her.
[9:50] Emilee: Yeah, I'm feeling bad for Rachel Berry.
[9:52] Andrew: Okay, so that was, you know, coming up for you, big one, "Jar of Hearts" was a tough one to lose.
[9:59] Emilee: I really like "Jar of Hearts."
[10:00] Emilee: I'm a big fan.
[10:01] Patrick: What did that lose to again?
[10:04] Emilee: "Father Figure," "Father Figure."
[10:06] Patrick: Yeah, oh, sure.
[10:09] Emilee: I feel okay about "Father Figure."
[10:11] Emilee: That's my take on that.
[10:13] Emilee: But I don't dislike it.
[10:15] Emilee: I like, um, I don't dislike "Father Figure," but I don't dislike "Father Figure."
[10:21] Emilee: I like, um, "Take Me to Church" like a thousand percent more than "Father Figure," but I get it.
[10:28] Patrick: Yeah, I get it.
[10:30] Patrick: You know, he can't sing anything bad, right?
[10:32] Patrick: Like he's amazing.
[10:34] Emilee: But that would be a fun, a fun little contest, though, for Noah Guthrie.
[10:39] Emilee: Let's try to find the one song that he can sing bad.
[10:42] Patrick: Yeah, I won.
[10:44] Patrick: I don't think so.
[10:46] Emilee: He's pretty, pretty good bass.
[10:48] Andrew: All right, and the last, last, last one is, um, "It's All Over."
[10:55] Emilee: That broke my heart.
[10:56] Patrick: To jump?
[10:59] Emilee: Kill me.
[11:01] Emilee: I like, literally, like, oh my God.
[11:05] Emilee: A jump is like, is climbing the ranks for me in recent years.
[11:08] Patrick: Right, right.
[11:09] Emilee: I will say.
[11:09] Emilee: Oh, and that Mercedes note, like, insane.
[11:12] Emilee: But like, oh, the dramatics of "It's All Over," the interchange, like, changing of, like, real and dream girls.
[11:18] Emilee: And what did I say?
[11:22] Emilee: The outfits, the hair, the just, the like, change of it all.
[11:26] Emilee: Like, it's just like the way that they, it's just like, it's like they're, they're really strategically making it work, obviously.
[11:32] Emilee: But they're also, like, clumsily making it work, like, out of everybody running for president.
[11:36] Patrick: I think it's so funny.
[11:40] Emilee: So funny.
[11:40] Emilee: Um, but yeah, "It's All Over."
[11:43] Emilee: And I think, also, that was the final song from Asian F, Still in the Glockenspiel, if I'm not mistaken.
[11:48] Patrick: Stop, really?
[11:50] Emilee: And so, well, I mean, like, let's think about the other ones.
[11:53] Emilee: Around the World, Girls, Spotlight, Out Here on My Own.
[11:58] Emilee: Still am mad about that Spotlight leaving.
[12:01] Patrick: Yeah, yeah.
[12:02] Emilee: Out Fix You, done.
[12:04] Patrick: But, yeah.
[12:06] Emilee: Dang.
[12:07] Emilee: But that's it for me.
[12:08] Emilee: Those are the three, the three biggins that I didn't care for.
[12:13] Emilee: But that's all right.
[12:15] Emilee: That's how the Glocken goes, baby.
[12:17] Andrew: And we're gonna, we're gonna do some more tonight.
[12:19] Andrew: And speaking of Fix You, Patrick, you were, you were there to send Fix You off in round two.
[12:24] Patrick: Yes?
[12:25] Patrick: I was.
[12:26] Patrick: That was, like, when you and Allison called me randomly.
[12:29] Andrew: Ah, I remember that.
[12:30] Patrick: Right.
[12:31] Patrick: No, but then, also, that was in the episode with Zach.
[12:34] Andrew: Oh, wait, yeah.
[12:35] Patrick: I sent Fix You through twice.
[12:37] Andrew: You sent, wait, no, but Fix You did lose, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
[12:42] Patrick: Wait, wait, did Fix You lose?
[12:43] Patrick: Did, did we not send Fix You through in round two?
[12:45] Emilee: Fix You lost in round two.
[12:46] Patrick: Oh, then I, I was there for Fix You twice.
[12:50] Patrick: But I sent Fix You through in the first round.
[12:52] Patrick: And then I guess I killed her in the second round.
[12:54] Patrick: But I can't recall what Fix You lost to.
[12:58] Emilee: Hmm.
[12:58] Patrick: I wish there was a document where we could find this out.
[13:01] Emilee: Yeah.
[13:01] Patrick: I can see that someone else is in here.
[13:03] Emilee: Probably one of you.
[13:04] Patrick: Oh, it's me.
[13:06] Patrick: Oh, it's me.
[13:08] Patrick: I'm doing my homework when class has already started.
[13:11] Emilee: Well, that's, that sounds like me.
[13:13] Patrick: Oh, okay.
[13:14] Patrick: Well, ABC took out Fix You.
[13:18] Emilee: Okay.
[13:18] Patrick: Which, yeah, which is fair.
[13:21] Emilee: Another season three bop.
[13:24] Andrew: All right.
[13:24] Andrew: So my Glackett things.
[13:28] Patrick: Yeah.
[13:28] Patrick: I really just think that the only one I disagree with was "Jar of Hearts" over "Father Figure,"
[13:34] Patrick: as Emily was kind of hinting at.
[13:36] Emilee: Emily, I don't know if you meant to say you disagreed,
[13:39] Emilee: or if that one was particularly hard for you.
[13:42] Patrick: Oh, yeah.
[13:43] Emilee: I disagreed.
[13:45] Emilee: "Jar of Hearts."
[13:47] Patrick: Like, who, have I ever belted "Jar of Hearts" alone in my family's, like, shower?
[13:56] Patrick: Have I ever belted "Father Figure"?
[13:57] Emilee: Have you?
[14:01] Patrick: No.
[14:01] Patrick: Have I belted "Jar of Hearts"?
[14:05] Patrick: Absolutely.
[14:07] Emilee: So.
[14:08] Patrick: Okay, but they are accomplishing two different things.
[14:15] Emilee: There's a meme out there where it's, like,
[14:19] Emilee: "Jar of Hearts," lol, like, you're 12, you're 14, whatever,
[14:22] Emilee: and you're just, like, screaming that alone when your parents are gone.
[14:25] Emilee: Like, that is a universal experience.
[14:27] Emilee: I don't know about "Father Figure" and if it means that to me.
[14:33] Patrick: And I feel like Father.
[14:35] Andrew: Figure and Rajik in particular are one of those times where the Gleeks that you either have on or you yourself, are just like really into it. And then you're like, "Guys, isn't this great?" And people are like, "Yeah, it is." But if you were like a John Hart stand, it'd be different and be different.
[14:59] Emilee: Hmmm, that's really interesting. You know, like I feel like maybe a little over like a year ago Alison Dodge was on an episode where she said to me, I don't know why this really opened my eyes, because it's actually like not that big of a thought, but also is a really big thought where she said, "Are we just voting on what song we like more?" Which is true. We are voting on what song we like more, which is like, I don't know. Do you know what I mean? Where it's like that is a big thought, but actually not that big of a thought. It's like it's like where it's like all over.
[15:37] Patrick: Yeah, that's like a good test of it. But go ahead.
[15:39] Emilee: Right, but it's like, it's like, what do we like listening to more? There's something in the rhythmic pattern. There's something in the chemistry of how humans are responding to songs where it's like, whereas like "Jar of Hearts" just can't win, you know? I think everyone has their own scale of what they're grading, you know, why they put things through. So for some people, it might be what they like more. But other people, it's like MP4 versus MP3 or what they think. Like we were talking last week about a group song versus a solo song. And, you know, things like that.
[16:20] Andrew: So I guess it just depends on what your scale is.
[16:24] Emilee: That's true. I think what I was trying to say is like for "It's All Over" versus "Jump," it's like you were even saying it earlier, Andrew, when they talk about the everybody running for president part. Like, that's so funny. But like, in a sense, it kind of takes away from it being like the best song on Glee because it's kind of like they intertwine it into the universe in like such a campy way where it's like this can't win the Glackett. But like "Jump" is like so technically good. And then, yeah, the MP4 is also excellent. So in my mind, when we're talking about like, what do we like better? It's like, I guess I technically like "It's All Over" better as a fan of the show and like how fun it is in that episode. But what's actually better, I suppose, is "Jump."
[17:17] Patrick: So when I was listening to that episode and "Jump" won, I was like, yeah, that's sad. And I like "It's All Over" better. But I also probably would have voted for "Jump" in the context of Gleek of the Week voting.
[17:30] Andrew: OK, I have a question for Emilee. With the everybody running for president, is that a pro or a con for you?
[17:40] Emilee: You know, that's a good question. It's funny now because every time I listen to "Dreamgirls," I always say everybody running for president. You know, I think it's hard to say because I really do like, as a musical theatre person, I like that they're taking parts of it where the cast is saying a lot of like, the cast is calling her Effie, but she is referring to them as like, you know, Puck and Gertrude. But Santana seems to be the only one who's really changing the lyrics that like that's making everybody running for president. Wait, no, that's not Santana. That's Mercedes talking about that.
[18:30] Emilee: But no, that's why I think it's interesting, because she is like referring to them in like the real world and everyone else is referring to her as like Effie as the character. So I think it's I kind of like it because she's kind of like, I don't know, like in reality. But they're kind of like, this is just a performance. I don't know. It's kind of weird. It's very strange. I don't hate it, but I don't love it.
[19:01] Patrick: That was a terrible answer.
[19:01] Emilee: No, that was a perfect answer and really thought provoking because I have thoughts that were provoked by what you said. I almost feel like, OK, so like, I feel like Dakota Stanley in season one refers to bringing it back, bringing it to Dakota, Dakota Stanley discourse, bringing it back to Dakota Stanley, of course. Here we are. Dakota Stanley refers like almost like calls Mercedes Effie as like, I don't like slurs. The only word that's coming to mind.
[19:32] Emilee: Sure, sure. It's derogatory, derogatory. Thank you. I think that there are what it would it would almost be like they're calling her Effie in the song derogatorily where they're like not playing. I don't know is I obviously understand that Mercedes has more syllables than Effie. So it's like it doesn't lend itself to just change the name. I really, really do think that like they are referring to her as the character of Effie, like they're almost like they're doing a production of "Dreamgirls," like it's a produced number. But she is looking at all the people like these, this is Mr. Shoe and Santana and Whitney and Kurt and all of the different people as people.
[20:17] Emilee: And I think that it's very, it's very important that it's put that way because I mean, I think it's done intentionally, not because just because of Mercedes, but I think it's supposed to be that she's seeing the reality of it where they're all just being like, why can't you be a team player and just do the things we need you to do and put on the performance? And she's like, you guys like this is me seeing my friends turning their backs on me kind of a thing. I think it's got a deeper meaning, which is why I love it so much, I guess. I'm obsessed with it.
[20:50] Emilee: And I remember like because that was a song that I was unfamiliar with at like 14 years old when I watched the episode. And so like I was like really excited to be introduced to it. And also, I need to bring up the fact that in the episode, Mercedes' boyfriend Shane does say like, you know, like you're always making me the best actor goes to Mercedes' boyfriend. You're always making me watch "Dreamgirls." But like, like you're always saying that like you're what's the line? It's like you're like you're Effie or something. So like it was like kind of like a setup. It was like kind of the crumbs.
[21:28] Emilee: Or when for the first time ever, Mercedes is like, I'm sick after doing one dance move. Like how in the actual show, Effie's like sick because she's pregnant. And it's like, OK, they're really trying to bring a lot of things together. Do you remember that she like Amber Riley had to like put out like a public statement after "Asian F" aired and she said like, hey, Mercedes is not pregnant. I just want to kind of like nip that in the bud because there were like so much conversation around her possibly being pregnant.
[22:00] Patrick: Well, it's probably also because in the actual song, Santana says you're getting fatter than ever. And yeah, you know, it's like they changed the president lyric, but they didn't change that one.
[22:13] Emilee: Yeah, that does seem weird. Huh? Good point.
[22:15] Patrick: So there's that was a really interesting conversation around it, because I like what Emily, you said, where is she really kind of like embodying Effie and that's why they call her Effie. But then she's talking to her friends because she's doing it a different type of way, but then getting back to the original point of this is that "It's All Over" is kind of like a fun you had to be there moment where you have like the context of the show and then you have to have like context of "Dreamgirls" for it to like really hit and then you watch it and it's really fun that they did that.
[23:02] Emilee: And they found a way to kind of incorporate that as a dream sequence, like fit the plot. But then if you look at it too hard, like we're doing now, you kind of see some of those things where it's like, oh, that was an interesting choice. And then "Jump," I just think is like bulletproof, like Glee season one iconic.
[23:23] Patrick: Yeah. So if we're trying to figure out what's the best song in Glee, I'm going to go "Jump." But like which one's more fun to talk about, which ones may be more fun to watch, whatever, which one do I, quote unquote, like more? It's going to be, you know, "It's All Over," in my opinion. But I would have also voted for "Jump" because of the way that I just described.
[23:46] Emilee: That's very interesting. I like that.
[23:47] Patrick: Yeah. Like they have everyone has their own like ways of determining what songs go through and what's on their checklist of things. So maybe it develops over time and things like that. But I think right now in round three, I'm starting to separate like the camp and memories from like what is actually just really, really good that they did really, really well, and maybe sometimes I'll use that logic and it'll help me make that decision, because I did think that "It's All Over" versus "Jump" was a really hard breaking one to make. But then, yeah, I don't know when there's a different set of songs in the future. Maybe I will or won't use that logic.
[24:35] Emilee: So at the end of the day, it's all about the vibes.
[24:38] Patrick: I know, I'm sure you're picking these vibes.
[24:42] Emilee: Yeah, I will say, I don't know, something about like this "It's All Over" conversation that we're having really, really lit me up in a way like I'm having so much fun specifically talking about this song. I don't know. I think there's so much meat here. I will say one last thing about "It's All Over" that I want to ask both of you, do you feel that like with "It's All Over," obviously being a lay up to "And I Am Telling You" in the musical that like we have "It's All" and "I'm Telling You" from season one, obviously. So they didn't want to do it again in season three.
[25:30] Emilee: Do you feel like like when "It's All Over" is over when "It's All Over" in season three that it's like it kind of does like leave something to be desired because that song really is just kind of like momentum building to this act one finale?
[25:36] Patrick: Yeah. So I always felt like "And I'm Telling You" like I really, really wish that that was in "Asian F." I think that it was they used it too early. I would. Yes. And I would have loved even like, you know how they did "Teenage Dream" a couple of seasons later, I would have loved another one. But with her, with Shelby and like maybe seeing some leadership from Shelby or some different things from Shelby, because she's moving to the Troubletones or the Troubletones and like, you know, maybe a different version of it or some leader guidance. A scene of that would have been really cool, I think.
[26:12] Emilee: Yeah. Yeah, totally. They could have done it again. They could have. They did "Teenage Dream" twice. Come on. They did a lot of songs. If they did it again, they would have given it to Blaine because it was season three and he sang everything. And he would have sang it live at a piano. He would have sang it live and then everyone would have been tweeting about it. And then it would have been really, you know, of the time because he really wasn't going. He was going to be there for the rest of the series and sing in every single episode. He wasn't going because we found out that he was a junior in season three.
[26:44] Andrew: Oh, that's much better.
[26:46] Patrick: That's much better. Yeah.
[26:48] Andrew: Your question.
[26:48] Emilee: I had I had also not really seen "Dreamgirls" until after I had seen seasons one, two, three of Glee.
[26:58] Andrew: So, yeah. In a sense, it's almost the opposite for me where when I watch "Dreamgirls," it's like jarring that that song comes right after "It's All Over" because there's no like, oh, or anything like in my mind, they were kind of separate concepts. And then to now understand that the text says that they should be right next to each other. I think that's one of those things where I wish I could say I was really familiar with "Dreamgirls" before Glee and that Glee didn't introduce "Dreamgirls" to me. But that's not my reality.
[27:34] Emilee: That's right.
[27:35] Andrew: Yeah, really. So wait, would you would you would you stick to your vote now after all of this? If the three of us were voted for "It's All Over" versus "Jump," what would what would it be? Because I'd vote for "Jump."
[27:46] Patrick: "Jump" like "Jump" to me. I think it's so cute. I think they look so, like, fresh. I watched "Mattress" last night. Crazy Saturday Night. Crazy Saturday Night Alert. Abraham said it in the episode that it's like they all like have like almost like this purity in their eyes that it's like they're like right before they are like superstars around the world, you know, that like they're just performing on mattresses. There's something so light and fun about this performance. It's just like one of those songs that I think to Allison Dodge's point, I just don't like the song.
[28:22] Emilee: You know, I just don't like it. I don't think it's I associate with like theme parks for some reason, like in a bad way. I associate it with dive bars because I'm from Wisconsin.
[28:34] Patrick: Oh, really? Yeah.
[28:35] Emilee: So in a bad way or good way?
[28:37] Patrick: Oh, in a bad way.
[28:39] Emilee: OK, just to make sure.
[28:40] Patrick: Wisconsin bars? I know they play "Jump Around."
[28:43] Emilee: Oh, no, they play. I mean, "Jump Around" is a good one. Don't Stop Believin', too.
[28:48] Patrick: Like, yeah, go Badgers. That kind of music in general is very big in the bars.
[28:57] Emilee: Oh my God. Wait, but oh my God. "Jump Around," just one last. "Jump Around" as a song. They should have done "Jump Around."
[29:12] Andrew: Jump Around! I posted to my story a few months ago. Like, it came up on shuffle and I listened to it, and I'm like, this song is definitely not for gay men. It's like, I feel like it's almost exclusively for straight culture, you know? But like, there's something in the chemistry that's really, really landing. I implore everyone to listen to Jump Around and tell me that it's not one of the—it's so fucking good.
[29:35] Emilee: You mean like the Criss Cross song?
[29:39] Andrew: Jump Around! Jump, jump, jump around! Get up and get down!
[29:51] Patrick: Stupid! Yes! Oh my gosh!
[29:54] Emilee: It's House of Pain! Okay, that's how you know. There we go. Jump, jump! Like, it's really fun!
[30:02] Andrew: Yes! Yes! Daddy Mac will make you jump, jump! Um, yeah, wait, oh my god, I feel like Jump Around has such a fun instrumental as well. Oh my god, it's perfect song alert!
[30:13] Emilee: That song came out before the both of you were born.
[30:19] Patrick: Well, what year is that? Like '90?
[30:21] Andrew: '92! Ooh, '92! Negative three years old alert!
[30:27] Emilee: Andrew, never a twinkle in your eye.
[30:31] Patrick: Twinkle, twinkle, little Gleek is front-runner for title of that.
[30:39] Emilee: Twinkle, twinkle, little Gleek! I feel like I'm associating it with like, I am a shining star, like sugar, like I'm—
[31:06] Andrew: See, I sing it good! You have an annoying nasally quality that I can only take so much of.
[31:13] Emilee: Which I think is right! Can I say something really quick? In high school, I did speech and debate, and my speech and debate coach told me that I speak through my nose too much, and he told me to not do that anymore. So he effectively told me that I have an annoying nasally quality to my voice.
[31:32] Patrick: I do that. He could only take so much of that.
[31:37] Emilee: Really, that really spoke to me. I was like, wow, we really nailed it on the head there. I felt seen.
[31:46] Andrew: I know! I hate when Glee makes me and you know, just like have the same kind of voice, you know?
[31:51] Emilee: Oh my god, okay. I keep on saying this, but like one last thing truly, and then we will bracket it. Um, but like the thing for me that I feel too seen by Glee is when Sebastian says to Kurt, "One of us has a bad case of the gay face," and it's not—
[32:13] Patrick: And I'm like, fuck! Like, god, I didn't choose this face, you know? People like—I think gay face is just such a—
[32:23] Emilee: You know, there's a lot more spaces to have the gay face, let's know.
[32:29] Patrick: Sure, yeah, that's true. But you know, I sit down to watch the episode of Glee and I'm reminded.
[32:35] Andrew: Yeah, anyway, what are we hoping to see come out of the cup today? I'm dying!
[32:42] Patrick: You go first. I went first before.
[32:46] Emilee: Um, I feel like a broken record because I always say the same stuff. I never get what I want, so...
[32:53] Patrick: Mm-hmm. You know, I will say there's been—like, it's been getting a little harder, hasn't it? Like, there have been some pretty rough competitions.
[33:02] Emilee: So I just want to draw some songs that inspire really important Gleek discourse.
[33:10] Andrew: I would say that this is the right group to do that with. I think that we have effectively had a 33-minute conversation mostly about It's All Over and the intricacies that lie within.
[33:21] Emilee: I was thinking, are the listeners going to listen to this and be like, "Oh, they're still talking about this?"
[33:29] Patrick: Oh, they're still on—
[33:31] Andrew: Oh wait, it's not all over!
[33:33] Emilee: Like, 15 seconds, 15 seconds, 15 seconds, and it's like, oh, they're still talking about this.
[33:37] Patrick: Oh, they're still talking about this.
[33:41] Emilee: 15 seconds, 15 seconds. Damn, the meal is done!
[33:45] Andrew: Boo!
[33:47] Emilee: Um, that's funny.
[33:51] Patrick: Emily, what are you looking for?
[33:53] Emilee: Well, I brought specifics because I also sound like a broken record, but um, I would love to hear a little bit of My Man today. Could use a little Rachel.
[34:03] Patrick: Um, I also have Nutbush City Limits. That energy in my life!
[34:09] Emilee: I don't like that I'm saying those two songs back to back.
[34:13] Patrick: I don't either, actually. These next two either. I don't want to pull all four of these today, so I literally brought four songs.
[34:21] Emilee: I also brought Hung Up and Love Song.
[34:25] Patrick: No, no, no!
[34:27] Emilee: No, no, no!
[34:29] Patrick: No, no, no! Crap!
[34:33] Emilee: Oh! Exclusively divas! Oops, all divas!
[34:39] Patrick: Is I Am a Shining Star in the glasses?
[34:41] Emilee: I want that one!
[34:45] Andrew: I Am a Shining Star versus getting voted back somehow. That's number one on my iTunes.
[34:51] Emilee: Um, I literally feel like I brought it up a few weeks ago, the fact that no ROLOs have gone through. I was like, I know that we're on the cusp of it, and it still hasn't happened.
[35:05] Patrick: And we're like more than halfway through this round. We need that!
[35:11] Emilee: We need to start actually doing something about this because for a while it was like, let's clean up the ROLOs.
[35:21] Andrew: I got a song in my hand, you already know.
[35:25] Emilee: And you already know Emily's manifestation powers are too powerful!
[35:29] Patrick: Which one?
[35:33] Emilee: I also said that ROLO epidemic, so My Man.
[35:41] Andrew: It is indeed My Man! Let me find him actually.
[35:47] Patrick: Andrew, how do you feel about this song?
[35:51] Andrew: How do I feel about this song?
[35:53] Patrick: Yeah, do you like this one?
[35:55] Andrew: I do. I mean, we will talk about it.
[35:59] Emilee: You broke the rule!
[36:01] Andrew: Oh!
[36:03] Patrick: What rule?
[36:05] Emilee: Only the real ones will know! Everybody on the count of three! One, two, three!
[36:11] All: She may do this boy! Can she sing?
[36:17] Andrew: And I think that's the rhythm of how they said it in the episode too.
[36:21] Emilee: Not slow motion!
[36:23] Patrick: It sounds just like Kurt!
[36:27] Emilee: Because they were all waiting to say it together—Kurt, Mercedes, and Santana!
[36:43] Andrew: Absolutely!
[36:45] Emilee: I'm dead!
[36:47] Patrick: Oh no!
[36:49] Emilee: No, dead in a good way! Like dying from—
[36:53] Andrew: I'm dead because I love that song!
[36:55] Emilee: Andrew, I want to hear from you!
[36:57] Andrew: You're dead!
[36:59] Emilee: I'm dead! I'm dying!
[37:01] Andrew: This is number one on my Rachel Berry solo list!
[37:03] Emilee: This is one of my—like a million years ago, I did a top 10 Glee songs TikTok, and I'm pretty sure this is either number one or number two.
[37:13] Andrew: And like, just love, love, love it that much!
[37:15] Emilee: It is that high!
[37:17] Patrick: All of them! Like, this is almost winner of my Glacket, if not winner of my Glacket!
[37:21] Emilee: This My Man!
[37:25] Andrew: What is the winner between My Man and like—
[37:29] Emilee: Oh, my other one was Cough Syrup, but I don't feel that strongly about it anymore.
[37:33] Patrick: Yeah, this was a while ago, but My Man still holds strong. This is the winner of my Glacket personally!
[37:41] Andrew: Oh my god, that's huge!
[37:45] Emilee: Every single time I come on here, I'm like, I want to pick My Man! I want My Man! He's come home to me!
[37:59] Patrick: What are you thinking? You've never been here for My Man either, right?
[38:03] Emilee: I've never been here for My Man!
[38:05] Patrick: I mean, it's like mesmerizing! It's so good! It's peak theater kid energy as well when you watch it because she—the looking up like she's about to cry, and then what's the line that she delivers? So theater kid-like!
[38:19] Emilee: The world is bright!
[38:21] Patrick: It's just a pause!
[38:23] Andrew: Yeah, so very, very good!
[38:25] Emilee: Did you guys watch Ed, Edd n Eddy growing up?
[38:27] Patrick: Of course! Here we are!
[38:31] Emilee: The My Man discourse always lands in Ed, Edd n Eddy.
[38:33] Patrick: I'm a little too old for Ed, Edd n Eddy. I did not, but my husband did.
[38:37] Emilee: Oh, okay!
[38:39] Patrick: So the one thing that gets me out of this performance is that she literally is like a plank the whole time, and I was like, why is she like a plank the whole time?
[38:45] Emilee: And then I started thinking about Ed, Edd n Eddy!
[38:49] Patrick: So then like the whole time I was watching this performance, I was kind of like thinking about Ed, Edd n Eddy because she's very plank-like. She doesn't do much with her arms.
[38:59] Emilee: So I think it's amazing! Great!
[39:03] Andrew: I also had that thought while I was watching it!
[39:05] Emilee: What a great point!
[39:07] Patrick: I feel like we may have actually talked about this in round two, potentially.
[39:11] Emilee: Not Ed, Edd n Eddy!
[39:15] Andrew: I love the fact that we're like five years into Gleek of the Week, and I'm looking for new tie-ins.
[39:21] Emilee: I love the fact that it's like specifically Ed, Edd n Eddy plank, as if plank of wood isn't just something that exists outside of that universe.
[39:29] Patrick: But also, of course, we need to bring up the fact—this is what I think we may have talked about last round—is that Jesse's criticism of Mercedes is that there's no choreography, which, you know, I don't think there's any real choreography to be had with Try A Little Tenderness or My Man. That's not what you go to those songs for, frankly.
[39:45] Emilee: It's like, wait a minute! Favoritism is really rare and it's ugly head with this one!
[40:01] Patrick: Absolutely! My Man!
[40:05] Emilee: And then she won technically because she got the solo at Nationals, even though—
[40:11] Andrew: How did the episode end? Will said that no one won and he was going to do something else.
[40:17] Emilee: We're going to do original songs again!
[40:21] Andrew: Oh yeah!
[40:23] Emilee: And then Rachel's going to have the solo!
[40:25] Patrick: Wait, wait! Did it—
[40:29] Emilee: He didn't say that Rachel was going to have the solo, but they were all auditioning for a solo, and then he's like, "No one won, we have to do original songs."
[40:35] Andrew: But then Rachel still gets the solo!
[40:39] Emilee: She gets a duet!
[40:41] Patrick: Let me clock you!
[40:43] Emilee: She gets a duet with Finn!
[40:45] Andrew: I've been clocked!
[40:47] Patrick: But doesn't she do Get It Right?
[40:49] Emilee: I mean, that's not—
[40:51] Andrew: Get It Right is from Regionals!
[40:53] Emilee: Oh my brain!
[40:55] Patrick: You've been clocked! We've both been clocked!
[40:57] Andrew: We've both been clocked in such a major way!
[40:59] Emilee: What's going on here?
[41:01] Andrew: Stop the recording!
[41:03] Patrick: I major in a minor kind of way!
[41:05] Emilee: Let's check in!
[41:07] Andrew: Let's check in right now!
[41:09] Emilee: Hang on! Let's bring him to My Man!
[41:13] Patrick: Come on! I'm going to be on the edge of my seat waiting for Andrew to slip up just once!
[41:19] Andrew: I'm going to talk you so bad in this episode!
[41:23] Emilee: Just a little bit! Watch out!
[41:27] Patrick: He's coming for you!
[41:29] Emilee: That's so funny that you both stepped in it in the same thing!
[41:33] Andrew: Whoops! Always in tune together!
[41:37] Emilee: I love that!
[41:39] Andrew: What I will say in round two, the conversation that I had with Lina and Alison Alamode around this song, I believe it was Alison Alamode that really brought to my attention how close it was—My Man—to the original Barbara version.
[42:01] Emilee: Obviously, you listen to it, you listen to both of them, but when I watch the performances of My Man from the hit movie Funny Girl, they're doing—I think they have the same color spotlights in the background, wearing the same kind of dress, the same shots.
[42:15] Andrew: It goes from close-up at the same second that it cuts to a wide.
[42:21] Emilee: And so, it is—what I will say about My Man, I'm almost trying to be a little bit contrarian because obviously My Man is a perfect song, but My Man, if it's so close to the original piece, if it's almost replicating what the original has already done so effectively, then—
[42:37] Andrew: I don't know if that's winner of the Glacket vibes, you know what I mean?
[42:41] Emilee: I do know what you mean because it's not being original in it. It's not bringing its own spice to it.
[42:47] Patrick: It's very similar to Happy Days, that one I always think of too. It's like she is almost identical with her movements and her motions, the tone and stuff like that.
[42:57] Emilee: I don't know, there is something that I feel—this version feels very raw, and even though it's like shot for shot, there is something that Lea Michele brings to this that I don't even think Barbara brings to it.
[43:35] Emilee: Something about it that she just brings that makes it feel like I'm watching one of my peers, one of the people that I know.
[43:47] Emilee: Well, because I do obviously lots of theater and stuff, and it makes me feel like I'm watching an audition and just got to experience something really, really special. That's why I think I connect with it so much and why I love it so much. And you don't always see that, right? There's so much in the show that is like overproduced, especially once they're getting the money and they're getting, you know, they get to recreate things. But for this, it was like so simple and so real. That's another reason I think this Kurt line is so quotable, because it's so true that, God, she may be difficult in real life, but that just shows that raw talent that she has. And she even says, this is like the hardest song I've ever had to sing. It's a difficult song, but it's not technically that difficult. It's just you have to be able to put everything you have into it. Otherwise, it doesn't have the same vibe.
[44:43] Patrick Potyondy: Great point. Thank you so much. I feel like I needed to be clocked. And you effectively clocked me. And that's, no, like, I needed to be reminded that, like, my man, you're next to clock me. Don't worry. But like, you can't sing my man great without kind of like, leaving it out, leaving it all out in the field. And she did.
[45:10] Emilee: Right. But you are right. I mean, it is. And you know, that's on purpose, right? The shot for shot replica. Like, you know that Ryan Murphy loves this so much that like, that's how it had to be done. And Rachel Berry wouldn't have it any different as a character. But I do get what you mean, where it's like, do something a little different, make it original, make it your own. But I think she does that in the way she portrays it and just herself. Personally.
[45:35] Patrick Potyondy: Yeah. What do you what do you say, Patrick?
[45:38] Patrick Potyondy: I mean, that was great discourse from a my man, Stan. I am a huge fan of the song.
[45:49] Emilee: My Stan.
[45:49] Patrick Potyondy: I mean, I'd be hard pressed to decide to determine if the next song that we pull I've sang, I'd belted in a hotel shower on a business trip. But I can say I've done that with my man, Glee Cast version by Glee Cast. Yes, I can.
[46:05] Emilee: Hey, that gets points.
[46:07] Patrick Potyondy: Well, Glee Cast version by Glee Cast and also Barbra Streisand version by Barbra Streisand.
[46:11] Emilee: Right, right, bring it all together.
[46:15] Patrick Potyondy: Pretty, pretty one in the same.
[46:16] Emilee: Yeah, I remember having this conversation with Charlie on one of our episodes where he was talking about like the Britney Spears numbers and how in the first Britney tribute episode, they did a lot of like, or they attempted to do a lot of shot for shot music videos. And yeah, I remember the conversation getting to a point of saying, well, like a lot of people haven't really seen that media before. Like a lot of people watching Glee season two, episode 20, or whatever this was, is like, yeah, they're not there. I'd never seen Funny Girl before that, you know, what have you. And I had admitted even though I am now a Britney Spears fan, like back when Britney, Britney came out, like I had seen some of the music videos and stuff, but I didn't like 1000% know what was shot for shot versus what was this tribute.
But it was still really, really excellent. And it makes you want to explore that like original media a lot. And so I can understand now, we're so many years out from the show. And, you know, what are we doing, but picking everything apart, you know, after watching all these performances, a lot of times, I certainly get why that would come up, like, well, they're not really doing anything new to it. But then what we were talking about earlier in the episode, where it's what are you judging it off of? Like, that's another component now that people are adding to that checklist of, well, did Glee do anything different with it? But like, I don't know, for the general audience, like, how do you know?
Like, how do you know, like the funny, no one had not no one had seen that, obviously, like a lot of people did she want to ask her for it. But like, a lot of people aren't going to understand that, especially the group at the time who the show was targeting, which was like teens. So right, I don't know. I don't know if what I just said really matters at the end of the day. And if it should have been the case that they should have done something different or not. But I suppose for me when they do a replica, a lot of times it doesn't bother me. But then I'm thinking about like the Miley Cyrus wrecking ball thing with Marley. And I'm like, that sucked. So yeah, so I'm kind of like, yeah, but also like that might have just sucked.
[48:44] Emilee: Yeah, it sucked. Yeah, it sucked because it was season five. It sucked. Well, hey, not too much because we do have some we do have some bops in season five. But I think that like wrecking ball specifically. I think that like, it's like they are like, I think they're making a reference to the music video and kind of like, yeah, the music video which came out like four months before. I think that's also part of it. Maybe it's like when they're just redoing something that's like, actually relevant in pop culture at the moment. It's like, come on. That's when you have to really do something different. But if you're referencing something that was 40 years ago, and you're doing it like shot for shot, and you're doing it like an homage. Maybe that's different.
[49:29] Emilee: Yeah, yeah. Yes. And I the wrecking ball thing. Oh my god, I think that's such a great reference like a song to pull up because like, yeah, they're, they're obviously doing it recent. And they're also like, I hate like these like little almost like styrofoam, like cardboard bricks that they have. And like, it's like, I'm like, Oh my god, like, are we have we really like fallen this far? Have we? Is this where we are now? And it's just like, it's so it just feels like so lazy. Anyway, whereas like this, my man, it's like you're like, I think I'd like a literally like studied I like put Barbra Streisand on top and played Gleek has version beneath and they literally like cut at the same time, which is like, so specific. Yeah. And like it. And it has to be purposeful, of course.
[50:26] Emilee: Oh, um, yeah, yeah. So I think it'd be really hard to pull something that would beat this.
[50:30] Patrick Potyondy: Oh my gosh, I don't think it's the winner of the Glackett, but I hope it goes really far. I think I almost feel that like, I'm feeling Rolo on Rolo crime right now. I think I think it's that's what I'm thinking is gonna happen. Let's see if I'm right. Oh, oh, this is not fun. Not fun. It's not a Rolo on Rolo crime. But this is terrible. Nasty. We're competition alert. Man, I love him.
[51:04] Emilee: But let's see how much you really love your man after you see what I have for you.
[51:09] Patrick Potyondy: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
[51:13] Emilee: I can see it. Oh, I'm gonna throw up. I'm gonna throw up. I'm gonna throw up.
[51:19] Patrick Potyondy: So, okay. Are you ready for me to tell you, Emily, so you can look it up?
[51:24] Emilee: I'm throwing up.
[51:27] Patrick Potyondy: It is four minutes. Four minutes.
[51:31] Emilee: Oh no. I can't. I can't.
[51:35] Patrick Potyondy: This is the hardest competition I've ever been a part of.
[51:39] Emilee: This is terrible. This is horrible.
[51:43] Patrick Potyondy: Hey. Hey.
[51:45] Emilee: On three. One.
[51:49] Patrick Potyondy: Um. They may be perfect and boy.
[51:58] Emilee: Oh my god, that's so bad, Andrew. Why did you invite us on?
[52:01] Patrick Potyondy: Can I do something really, really annoying?
[52:03] Emilee: A crime. What's a crime?
[52:05] Patrick Potyondy: Can I say the most annoying thing in the world?
[52:07] Emilee: Absolutely.
[52:08] Patrick Potyondy: I know my vote. I know my vote. I feel really confident about it.
[52:11] Emilee: Me too.
[52:12] Patrick Potyondy: All right. Here. Emily, you went last time, so I'll go first this time. Okay.
[52:18] Emilee: Wait. No. I feel so bad. Wait. I just.
[52:23] Patrick Potyondy: Emily has the, like, literally, like, saddest look of all time.

[54:23] Patrick Potyondy: Is the cart really ahead of the horse?
[54:25] Emilee: Sorry. You know what? You had a cart before the horse moment.

So I'm going to be like, give it back to Patrick. And then at the end, I'm still going to vote for four minutes. That's what's happening right now.

[57:06] Emilee: That's not.
[57:06] Patrick Potyondy: Yeah, that's true. I know. I'm with the wrong people today.

I was Diana Agron watching four minutes like I like literally like I was like, I don't actually have any thoughts. It's just pure adrenaline, pure joy.
[57:53] Emilee: The joie de vivre.
[57:54] Patrick Potyondy: Can I say something?
[57:55] Emilee: Yes.
[57:56] Patrick Potyondy: Oh my god, Emily. I forget about four minutes. I want to be mad at you, but I actually can't. I do. I do. So I love four minutes. When it was playing, I'm like, oh, shit. Why? Why? Why? This is too hard of a competition. But I forget about it when I like actually like I kind of forget the whole storyline happens. I don't know why. Which is problematic. But it's about that.
[58:22] Andrew: Welcome back to Gleek of the Week! Today, we have Emilee and Patrick joining us again to dive into everything Glee.
[58:52] Emilee: I'm so excited to be back! There's so much to discuss this week.
[59:22] Patrick: Absolutely! I can't wait to break down "It's All Over" and all the drama that comes with it.
[59:52] Andrew: Yes! That performance is packed with emotion. What do you think makes it stand out?
[1:00:22] Emilee: I think it's the raw energy and the way the characters express their feelings. It really captures the essence of the show.
[1:00:52] Patrick: Plus, the choreography is just iconic. It really elevates the performance.
[1:01:22] Andrew: Definitely! And speaking of iconic, we have to talk about the Rolo epidemic.
[1:01:52] Emilee: Oh my gosh, the Rolo thing is hilarious! It’s such a random but memorable detail.
[1:02:22] Patrick: Right? It’s one of those quirky Glee moments that just sticks with you.
[1:02:52] Andrew: And it adds to the overall charm of the show. Now, let’s discuss the Americana High School core vibe.
[1:03:22] Emilee: I think it’s the best vibe of all time! It really encapsulates the high school experience.
[1:03:52] Patrick: Agreed! The nostalgia it brings is just unmatched.

[1:05:22] Patrick: Speaking of songs, let’s talk about the performances we’re featuring today.
[1:05:52] Andrew: Yes! We have "4 Minutes," "Dancing Queen," "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," and "My Man."
[1:06:22] Emilee: Each of these songs has such a unique vibe and meaning within the context of the show.

[1:13:42] Andrew: No, I think you're picking up on that. Yeah, no, I think that it's like, it's so hard to like kind of reinvent such an iconic song such as "Dancing Queen." But like, I think that they really, they really, really, they cooked here, to borrow a phrase. And they just did something really, really special. Like they could have done like a true to form remake, where it's like, yep, you did "Dancing Queen." But I feel like they did something so fun. I really love it. It's really wonderful.

[1:23:02] Andrew: I'll start, though.
[1:23:03] Emilee: Yeah, okay.
[1:23:05] Patrick: So this song, to me, it's... I hate to say it, but it's not a song that I will go out of my way to play. Like, you know, like, I'm never really searching for this song to play. But when I watch the mp4, it is just... God, it is just so good, right? Like, it is just, it's heartbreaking.
[1:23:26] Emilee: And it's, it's incredible to, you know, really a testament to what they have gone through as a cast and over that season, over the two seasons then. And, you know, it's really, it's difficult, right, to look back at it. But what really throws me off every time I watch this performance is those damn three Cheerios.
[1:23:46] Patrick: I know.
[1:23:48] Emilee: How, how do you go so long, a whole school year, without finding three more members?
[1:23:57] Andrew: It just blows my mind every time I watch it. And I'm like, this is so meaningful. But there's always that asterisk that it's like, they didn't really have a full team. And it throws me off.
[1:24:07] Patrick: I know that you're also equally as obsessed as I am with these three Cheerios.
[1:24:12] Emilee: They mean...
[1:24:13] Patrick: Yeah, they come up a lot, even when it's like, this is an actual relevant time to talk about them. But you and I have talked about them at least like three separate episodes when they don't need to be brought up.
[1:24:21] Emilee: They're so important. I feel like I say this every single time. But like, I'm obsessed with the fact that even at nationals in Los Angeles, they have the high ponies on, just as a reminder to the audience that they are Cheerios, who these divas are, I think is so funny.
[1:24:37] Patrick: But they didn't have to wear their Cheerios uniform on the bus.
[1:24:47] Emilee: They didn't need to. Exactly. They literally... Thank you. I know that you're making your hearkening back to wearing the Cheerios uniform.
[1:24:52] Patrick: I'm hearkening.
[1:24:55] Emilee: You're hearkening right now.
[1:24:57] Patrick: You're hearkening. You're hearkening when Britannia was wearing their Cheerios uniform in Chicago for nationals. But you know what's so funny is that when they sing "I Love LA" on the tour bus, those girls are not in their Cheerio uniforms. And it's like, why not?
[1:25:21] Emilee: I don't know.
[1:25:21] Patrick: That's funny.
[1:25:22] Emilee: I think it's great how Emily gave like a really wonderful statement about, you know, why this song is kind of, you know, we watch it with a heavy heart and stuff. And then we're like, all right, on to the comic relief. What is up with those three Cheerios?
[1:25:36] Patrick: The period that she put at the end of her statement did need to do with those girls.
[1:25:40] Emilee: And so we did pick up.
[1:25:43] Patrick: I was a thousand percent planning to be like, who were those three girls on stage? I don't know if I recognize them.
[1:25:51] Emilee: But I will say that, like, I never really looked at this song as much until I started hearing Kevin and Jenna talk about it, because you really see how people who were in it and living through this tragedy and continuing on with their jobs. And, you know, you really saw how much it meant to them.
[1:26:09] Patrick: As for me, by this time, admittedly, this is kind of where I start clocking out when I'm doing a rewatch. I'm kind of like, OK, I'm ready for the next. I'm ready for the New York of it all. I'm ready for the next.
[1:26:27] Emilee: I it's this last school year over the course of a season and a half just really kills it for me. It's one of my biggest, like, gripes with the show in general is that like, why would you do it that way? But obviously things changed and whatever. But like, yeah. And so it never really hit me as hard until I was like, oh, shit, this is like real people who are dealing with these things and people who love this person and cared for them. And this really were I don't really know. And I could be wrong. Were these Corey's favorite songs as well? Or was that just a tidbit? Because he is older. He was an older actor. So these could have been, you know, obviously in the show, his characters into those genres. But I would not be surprised if in real life these were some of his favorite songs. I don't know. But yeah, that's a good question. I feel like that has to be like trivia out there. Maybe. I don't know. I feel like someone would know the answer to that.
