[0:00] Andrew: We've got a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.
[0:09] Andrew: There's no rhyme or reason to it, so don't get mad at me.
[0:18] Andrew: Gleek it by Gleek it, we'll rank everyone to see which song will move closer to spot number one.
[0:26] Andrew: Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week. It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
[0:34] Andrew: Oh my, I have so many things that I could possibly say right now.
[0:38] Andrew: This is the first recording that we're doing post a man named Ryan Murphy on a red carpet talking about a damn Glee boot, saying that he wrote the script, and just setting the internet ablaze. And here I am. I need to be so real. There was a day last week, early last week, where like, when you get back, I will bring in the people that are involved in this conversation. But I got back from almost two weeks of being away from my life. And then when you get back, and it's like, oh damn, this is my life right now? I literally, I literally was like, I had to have like a coffee walk morning with Elias to be like, I'm thinking about ending the podcast. I don't want to finish The Glacket. I am so fucking depressed.
I, the last thing I want to talk about is the hit Fox show Glee. But it's all like, it had to do with, I think I was like, I missed a day of taking one medication that also might have had something to do with it. But like, so there was a lot of things happening. But then Ryan Murphy walks his ass on the American Horror Story red carpet, says he wrote the Glee Boot script. You gotta be in it, unfortunately.
[1:59] Andrew: With that, I'm bringing in our two guests this week.
[2:03] Andrew: Shut the fuck up, Allison.
[2:05] Andrew: White Women Rise, Allison and Maggie.
[2:09] Allison: Hey, girls who Glee, girls who Glee.
[2:14] Maggie: Did you say white power?
[2:16] Allison: No, I said girl power. Do not put that on the internet. You sick freak.
[2:23] Maggie: He is a sick freak.
[2:26] Andrew: Okay, so Glee Boot news. Allison, I understand that you have things that you want to say.
[2:32] Allison: I have been just kind of in a headspace of what good and bad television writing is. And this spurred from, I watched Off Campus and Off Campus.
[2:47] Allison: You're a little late to the game, girl.
[2:49] Allison: I am. And it's like that show was literally made for me. They said—
[2:53] Maggie: You're just talking about White Women Rise.
[2:55] Allison: Exactly. Exactly. So I was late to the game.
[3:00] Allison: Wait, sorry, I did an Off Campus trivia last week. And it was like exclusively white women.
[3:09] Maggie: People that look like me.
[3:10] Allison: Yeah.
[3:11] Maggie: Yeah.
[3:11] Allison: Yep. But I watched Off Campus and I felt the same way I felt about Summer I Turned Pretty.
[3:19] Allison: Which was like, oh, these shows have bad actors and bad writing.
[3:24] Allison: If it wasn't for the porn, I wouldn't probably be here.
[3:30] Maggie: The hot people, the hot people.
[3:31] Allison: And so I just, I watched Love Hypothesis and I was like, oh my God, so impressed by the writing in that.
[3:40] Allison: And so it was like, okay, Glee Boot. I feel like so many things when they're rebooted are like, why do we need this? We didn't ask for more.
[3:51] Allison: What would we want from a Glee Boot? And here's what I kind of want the plot. I didn't even write this down, but I've been thinking about it.
[4:00] Allison: And I would like the Glee Boot to open with like, Stevie Nicks.
[4:05] Maggie: Wow, literal Stevie Nicks?
[4:08] Allison: Literal Stevie Nicks sitting in like a confessional or like somebody of her caliber that is Ryan Murphy adjacent.
[4:16] Maggie: Yeah.
[4:16] Allison: But I want Stevie Nicks to be like, hey everyone, it's been a while since the show has been on the air. And a lot of different adventures have happened for our favorite characters. By the way, I'm Stevie Nicks. You might've heard my songs on TikTok.
[4:31] Allison: And she introduces where we are.
[4:34] Maggie: She's narrator?
[4:37] Allison: What the hell is happening?
[4:38] Allison: She's just the opening.
[4:39] Maggie: She's just the opening.
[4:40] Allison: Like, hey guys, welcome to the Glee Boot. I'm Stevie Nicks.
[4:44] Allison: I'm Stevie Nicks. You'll never see me again.
[4:46] Maggie: Okay.
[4:48] Allison: Just a preview, like, hey, a lot of things have happened. Let's go drop in on Rachel Berry.
[4:54] Allison: And Rachel Berry has a meeting with her agent.
[4:59] Allison: And her agent is like, hey, you can't get any work right now because people are saying you're hard to work with.
[5:09] Maggie: Oh, so they're getting meta on our asses.
[5:11] Allison: They're going to get a little bit meta in this.
[5:14] Allison: And they're going to be like, Rachel, you're hard to work with. Nobody in the industry really likes you. You've kind of been canceled on the internet. You need to, like, drop out of the public eye for a little while.
[5:26] Maggie: Sure.
[5:27] Allison: So she's going to be like, you know what? Whenever I have troubles, I have to go home to Lima, Ohio and just re-center myself. I'm going to go on this journey back at McKinley High School. I'm going to go see what's going on.
[5:40] Allison: We go to McKinley High School.
[5:42] Allison: And McKinley High School is being run by Becky Jackson.
[5:48] Maggie: Literally me and Elias are watching an episode of Glee.
[5:51] Allison: Because sometimes if I'm not in the Glee headspace, I need to watch an episode of Glee before doing a recording.
[5:56] Allison: And it was a Becky-heavy episode.
[5:58] Maggie: And me and Elias were like, Becky is the principal in the Glee boot.
[6:01] Allison: Yes.
[6:02] Allison: I think Becky is the principal.
[6:04] Allison: I think Becky says stuff like, I took over after Sue left us or passed on.
[6:10] Maggie: And Sue shows up and is like, I'm not dead. I am here, Becky.
[6:15] Allison: And Becky would be like, you're dead to me.
[6:17] Maggie: Exactly.
[6:18] Allison: And then since I'm assuming the Glee boot will be a Hulu original or straight-to-streaming, we've left the Fox network.
[6:28] Allison: And so Rachel comes back to McKinley High.
[6:31] Allison: And McKinley High is Fox News everywhere.
[6:35] Maggie: MAGA.
[6:35] Allison: It's red-pilled as hell.
[6:38] Allison: It's back to the status quo of season one.
[6:41] Allison: It's like, football is big. Straight people only. No queer representation. No theater or arts or anything.
[6:51] Allison: Because Becky got a promise from Donald Trump that if she helped the new young voters vote for him in his third election, Donald Trump would get Becky's boyfriend out of jail.
[7:07] Maggie: This is actually fucking unhinged and insane.
[7:11] Allison: This is the inner workings of a crazy person.
[7:14] Andrew: I think first and foremost, I'm really impressed that you didn't write this down.
[7:18] Allison: No, this is like living in my head.
[7:22] Andrew: You're so well acquainted with this entire story that you can recite it.
[7:27] Allison: And then I think that's kind of where I've left off on.
[7:32] Allison: It's going to focus on, we're back to square one.
[7:35] Allison: McKinley High is how it was episode one.
[7:39] Allison: Rachel has to build it back herself.
[7:42] Andrew: And the same strategies don't work anymore.
[7:44] Andrew: Question about Becky.
[7:47] Andrew: Because I could kind of see Becky being MAGA.
[7:52] Andrew: Is Becky MAGA?
[7:54] Allison: Yeah, Becky's MAGA because she wants her boyfriend out of jail.
[7:57] Andrew: That's such a bold statement to make on this Glee podcast.
[8:00] Maggie: Wait, Maggie, I feel like you are much more in tune with Glee than Allison is currently.
[8:09] Maggie: Do you think I'm crazy by saying that Becky might be MAGA in current day?
[8:17] Allison: Yeah, I could see that.
[8:20] Maggie: It's just, it's like, weird to imagine Becky being MAGA because of her monologue, her inner dialogue voice being Julie Andrews.
[8:25] Allison: Helen Mirren.
[8:28] Maggie: Or Helen Mirren.
[8:29] Allison: Oh, Helen Mirren.
[8:30] Maggie: Yeah.
[8:30] Andrew: Who's the bigger Gleek?
[8:32] Maggie: Oh, I'm thinking of Britney.
[8:34] Maggie: Oh, I just like can't imagine Helen Mirren ever saying anything, even in a role where she's getting paid to say anything like positive about Trump.
[8:46] Allison: But I could get behind it.
[8:47] Maggie: I could get behind it.
[8:49] Allison: The only other last thing that I've thought about with it is that I do think we need to address that Santana and Puck have both passed away.
[8:59] Maggie: And I think that Quinn—
[9:01] Allison: Oh, they're gonna pass away in the show.
[9:03] Maggie: In the show, they have passed away.
[9:05] Allison: And in like, where we left them at the end of season six was like, Puck and Quinn are like, kind of together, Santana and Britney are kind of together.
[9:16] Allison: I think Quinn and Britney are living together in like a house with a fuck ton of cats.
[9:22] Allison: And there's like, kind of a beauty in it of like, yeah, we've both lost our partners, but we have this similar background.
[9:31] Andrew: You know what would be? Here's my spinoff from this, Allison. I've loved everything you've said so far, but this is where I'm gonna split.
[9:38] Andrew: This is the fork in the road.
[9:41] Andrew: I think that Quinn and Rachel are having a secret relationship, and they're being really weird about it.
[9:48] Andrew: And the kids currently at McKinley are like, doing the thing where like, everyone's gay now.
[9:54] Andrew: It's not spent like, why are you acting like you need to be special? You know what I mean?
[10:00] Andrew: Like, you know, like, what's below Gen Z? I don't even know.
[10:01] Andrew: But they're like, they're like, it's not too woke for their own good.
[10:05] Andrew: Yeah, they're like, it doesn't like it in this day and age.
[10:09] Andrew: Everyone is gay.
[10:10] Andrew: Like, yeah, why are you even pretending like?
[10:12] Andrew: Yeah, I'm a girl and I'm fucking Quinn Fabray.
[10:15] Andrew: Yeah, and so they're like, secretly hooking up.
[10:19] Andrew: And they're like, trying to be chill about it because they like, don't want it to become a thing.
[10:22] Andrew: But all the students are like, oh, baby girls, we've been knowing you've been freaking in them sheets.
[10:27] Allison: We've been knowing for a while.
[10:28] Andrew: I did play with that idea.
[10:30] Andrew: I do think Rachel Berry needs to come back.
[10:34] Allison: Diana is not coming back.
[10:36] Andrew: You don't think so?
[10:37] Allison: She's not one of the 10 people that Ryan's been talking to.
[10:40] Andrew: No, Diana, Diana, the second she heard the news, she literally blocked Ryan Murphy on her phone.
[10:46] Andrew: I think, wait, here is my official 10 for who I think—
[10:52] Allison: Oh, yes, this is good.
[10:54] Andrew: Ryan Murphy said he reached out to around 10 cast members about like, doing the Glee boot. And he was like, they're enthusiastic about doing it.
[11:04] Andrew: And again, I understand that he means a loose 10.
[11:08] Andrew: Leah, Darren, Jonathan, Kevin, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Heather Morris, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Cordova Street.
[11:19] Maggie: You think he's coming back?
[11:21] Andrew: I don't think that he's coming back.
[11:23] Andrew: I think that he has been—
[11:25] Maggie: I don't think Heather Morris would.
[11:27] Andrew: I don't think Heather Morris would.
[11:28] Maggie: Oh, I think 100% Heather Morris would.
[11:31] Andrew: Really?
[11:31] Maggie: I think that she is—
[11:34] Maggie: She posted a story where she was like, did you see this story, Maggie?
[11:38] Andrew: Wait, did you put Jenna on that list?
[11:41] Maggie: Yeah, there's my list.
[11:43] Andrew: You, Andrew, are you telling me Kevin and Jenna are gonna do something different?
[11:47] Maggie: I don't know.
[11:48] Andrew: No, I think here's my thing.
[11:50] Andrew: Sisters, not twins.
[11:52] Andrew: I think that Kevin was reached out to almost like, hey, if I'm reaching out to Kevin, I'm also reaching out to Jenna when I reach out to Kevin.
[12:00] Maggie: They're a package deal.
[12:01] Andrew: Yeah.
[12:02] Andrew: Do you understand what I'm saying?
[12:03] Maggie: I do.
[12:04] Andrew: But then Heather posted a screenshot of a text message with her and Ryan Murphy where she says that she wants to sing the song "Gay" by Meg Stalter in the Glee boot, confirming she is one of the 10.
[12:20] Maggie: Yeah.
[12:21] Andrew: Well, you know what I was actually gonna say before Allison started giving her thesis was this.
[12:29] Andrew: I mean, I know no one's gonna agree with me, but I like genuinely think Ryan Murphy is lying.
[12:33] Andrew: Like, I think he's talking out of his ass.
[12:35] Maggie: He could be.
[12:36] Andrew: No, it's very true.
[12:37] Andrew: I think he's partially drumming up this talks because he wants people to watch the new season of American Horror Story.
[12:45] Maggie: I think so, too.
[12:46] Andrew: I watched it.
[12:46] Andrew: I think he wants people to pay attention.
[12:47] Andrew: I watched him on the red carpet several times.
[12:49] Andrew: I watched the video like three times, four times because I just wanted to look at his body language again.
[12:54] Andrew: And I'm like, I think he's just lying.
[12:56] Andrew: I think he's straight up lying.
[12:57] Maggie: Well, I noticed that in both interviews where he was asked about the Glee boot, he ends both interviews with, well, would you want to watch it?
[13:06] Andrew: That's what I'm saying.
[13:07] Maggie: Asking the reporter, like, would that be something that you're interested in?
[13:11] Andrew: I think that he's just like testing the waters.
[13:14] Andrew: I do think that he wrote something.
[13:16] Andrew: And I think that a Glee boot is inevitable.
[13:19] Andrew: But I just don't believe that he's like, I finished the script today.
[13:22] Andrew: It's like, did you?
[13:24] Andrew: It does feel like it's crazy.
[13:26] Andrew: And there have been people that message me that like this, it does sound insane to be like, yeah, we finished it an hour ago.
[13:32] Andrew: And now you're at the red carpet premiere for American Horror Story.
[13:35] Maggie: No, I understand that this man works a lot.
[13:37] Andrew: But like, that's kind of crazy to go from, I don't know.
[13:43] Andrew: But maybe he did.
[13:44] Andrew: You didn't have anybody, like you had only OGs on your list.
[13:49] Andrew: Do you think that in the just vibe of it, if there could be a second edition, like a Jacob Artist, a Blake Jenner?
[13:53] Maggie: I think a Becca Tobin is like kind of like, because Lea Michele, her and the bestie, Becky, Becca Tobin.
[14:11] Andrew: And so I think like she would be a package deal.
[14:17] Maggie: Kitty is showing up for better or for worse.
[14:20] Andrew: When you had Samuel Larson and Damian McGinty on, didn't Sam Larson say he was interested?
[14:25] Andrew: If it ever came to be?
[14:27] Maggie: Or am I completely fabricating that in my head?
[14:29] Andrew: I don't recall that.
[14:30] Andrew: But like the way that I see like characters like.
[14:34] Andrew: Samuel Larson and Damian McGinty. Characters like them. I think that I see them as really fun cameos in the Gleek of the Week. That is like when they are like kind of like needing, they're like, we really need a green outfit for regionals, but we can't find anything green. And then they're like, Damian McGinty's like, hi guys, I have a bunch of green outfits.
[14:58] Allison: Is that your Irish accent?
[15:00] Andrew: Hoi guys.
[15:05] Maggie: That was a hate crime. That was a hate crime.
[15:07] Andrew: I'm literally, I am 100% Irish. I can do that. Okay, so but here's my thing is that when that red carpet interview happened, it was on Wednesday night. I knew that I was going to be seeing Kevin McHale the next day for TodayTix event, Rocky Horror. And so I was like, I literally already had on my list, like, four Glee questions, but I was like, oh, baby, I got asked about the Glee boot too. So he did say, okay, this is some 411. I'm literally exclusive, exclusive. He said in the video that I posted that he was like, yeah, like, I talked to Ryan, whatever. And I would be interested in coming back. But then after the camera turned off, I told him, I'm like, I'm really proud of you for doing this role.
Like, you're doing a leading role, Brad. Like, that's so different than what we kind of expect out of a Kevin McHale, like quirky, kind of zany character to see him as a leading man. And he was like, yep, well, I'm about to get back in the wheelchair anyway. And so I'm like, bitch.
[16:21] Maggie: He's going in.
[16:21] Andrew: Exclusive, exclusive. Also exclusive, the morning after the same day that I talked to Kevin, a really nice lady by the name of Jenna Ushkowitz checked in on me, just sent me, I had my AirPods in, and it said, notification from Instagram. Jenna Ushkowitz asked you, said, are you okay?
[16:45] Allison: Action work is impeccable this episode. What an absolute, like beautiful woman inside and out.
[16:54] Maggie: That's insane.
[16:55] Andrew: I love her.
[16:58] Maggie: Were you okay? Were you in fact, okay, Andrew?
[17:00] Andrew: I was like, and I told her, like, she was like, what do you want out of the Glee Boot? And I sent her an audio message of like, okay, my entire dream of the Glee Boot has always been, it doesn't sound like I'm going to get my dream, has always been like, it's going to be kind of like, the same thing that, the same recipe as the beginning, where it was like a bunch of like, overnight successes, like these, like, nobodies, like, we're going to cast like a bunch of like, young talent, and they're going to become overnight successes. But it does sound like—
[17:28] Allison: You're talking about the actors and actresses themselves.
[17:31] Andrew: Right. I know that a lot of people are like, Sabrina Carpenter is going to be in the Glee Boot. Zendaya is going to be in the Glee Boot. I'm like, fuck that shit. No.
[17:38] Maggie: No, they're not.
[17:39] Andrew: You couldn't, you couldn't pay them enough to be in it. They would never be, they wouldn't touch a fucking 10 foot stick. So yeah, I told her, I was like, basing on the interview, the fact that he's reaching out to original cast members, makes me, makes it sound like it's not going to be that, it's going to be focused on like, hey, let's catch up with the characters, like you were saying Allison. So yeah, I'm still like, and I told her, the thing that most excited me about the Glee Boot is the fact that it's Ryan, Ian, and Brad all writing it. Like the fact, I was always assuming that the Glee Boot would be written by, like, it would be like, kind of like overseen by Ryan Murphy, but then just a bunch of random writers that don't really have stake in the game. That, you know, kind of understand the world. Not really, like, they're, they didn't create it. They didn't create it. But the fact that—
[18:33] Allison: They asked Claude.
[18:34] Andrew: Yeah, they asked Claude. Hey Claude, write me a Glee episode. So I'm, I'm happy that it's, it's those three. So—
[18:43] Maggie: See, do you also, Andrew, are you in the same mind frame? I know you talked about it in your last episode, it being a Disney Plus, but I'm kind of thinking it would be like a Hulu FX, kind of like The Bear and kind of like American Horror Story.
[18:57] Andrew: Well, Hulu and Disney Plus are the same thing.
[18:59] Maggie: But on Disney Plus. No, but this is a bit, this is, this is an important distinction.
[19:03] Andrew: My finger is up, audio medium is pointing to the air, to the gods, to the heavens, to the Ryan Murphys.
[19:10] Maggie: To the Ryan Murphys.
[19:11] Andrew: I'm not joking, and I can pretty much say this with my full chest. There has not been a good Disney Plus Disney original series. Since Disney Plus has started making its own original content, I'm sorry, there hasn't. What are we looking at? What are we, what are we—
[19:28] Maggie: High School Musical, The Musical, The Series.
[19:30] Andrew: High School Musical, The Musical, The Series. Almost all of the Marvel shows, because I'm a MCU person, almost all the Marvel shows crashed.
[19:36] Maggie: People really liked WandaVision.
[19:39] Andrew: I think, I think if you're looking at a literal like, like a poll of yes or no, I think there'd be more people who didn't like WandaVision than did.
[19:50] Maggie: Okay.
[19:50] Andrew: What about Agatha?
[19:51] Maggie: I loved, I loved WandaVision. I loved Agatha. People really loved Loki.
[19:56] Andrew: But I think there's been way more flops, like kind of significantly, specifically in the MCU world. High School Musical, The Musical, The Series, Percy Jackson, ass. Absolute ass. Like all of these, these shows, flops. Like they're flops. Like they're all geared towards YA. Yeah, it's just like, it's not good. They haven't been good. However, when you go to the other side of things, shows that have come out that are on Hulu FX that have been good. It's like The Bear literally wins all the awards. American Horror Story came back out. The reboot, I think of Always Sunny was on, is on FX. I do want to say that.
[20:31] Maggie: Okay.
[20:32] Andrew: So like, I've been like riding this high of the glee boot ever since he did that interview. Then it came to a screeching halt when I watched the first episode of American Horror Story season 13. That kind of was, it was a sobering experience seeing where his writing ability is currently. Fuck. Did you watch, has anybody watched it?
[20:55] Maggie: I haven't, yeah.
[20:55] Andrew: I've seen clips of it on Instagram and I've seen people being like, is this a joke? Like not even trying to be mean. Like they're being like, is this a joke? Like they, I think people are like—
[21:04] Maggie: I understand that there are other episodes out now.
[21:07] Andrew: There are, they're like, they released like a, like three episodes. I only watched the first one. Maybe it improves. That first episode, bad. Just like really just, oh my God. What has happened to TV writing? Like I'm saying that so earnestly and so—
[21:24] Maggie: Bring it back full circle.
[21:27] Andrew: I've watched, I've been watching The Sopranos. I've watched Lost. Like that, I've watched Glee. Like I've watched TV that came out live weekly and it was like, good. Is it the compressed format? They need to make eight episodes released by X date. So they're just like spreading the wealth of writing over the course of a month instead of six months to write a show. Like I am, I'm scared, big scared. I want everyone to know listening that is scared about the Glee boot that I'm trying my darndest to get into that writer's room. I just want to be a supervisor. I just want there to be like a kind of a role to be filled where it's like, hey, someone that understands what the Gleeks want, who can that person be? And I think that I'm up for the job.
[22:20] Maggie: You know what you need to do, Andrew? You need to start doing like Uber Eats or DoorDash or something and like go to LA and like hang out and like accept orders that are coming from like the production lot and then bring it in.
[22:33] Andrew: And they'll all be sitting at the table.
[22:35] Maggie: Now picture this. They're all going to be sitting at the table. They're going to be in a circle or like—
[22:38] Andrew: This is like when your parents give you job advice. Why don't we just go to the job?
[22:41] Maggie: Have you ever tried making more money?
[22:49] Andrew: That is literally something boomers have said to me before when I've like been talking about, I don't know, like distant relatives and stuff. They're like, yeah, you should just try getting a job that pays more. I'm like, yeah, I would love that, Beatrice. I would love that.
[23:02] Maggie: They're all sitting in a circle though. They're like, oh God, Ryan, Ian, you know, everybody. I just can't figure out why Leah or Rachel would be doing this. We need to figure out what her motivations are. In walks, we hear the squeaky hinges of a door, right? And they're like, oh, thank God, our DoorDash is here with our Starbucks.
[23:25] Andrew: Yeah, and so here comes Andrew in a little DoorDash uniform, even though they don't wear uniforms in this version. And he's got the little red hat, the little red shirt, looking spiffy as hell. And he puts down the cups in front of them. And he goes, oh, you know, I might know a little something about this. And then I kind of imagine you break into like a musical number.
[23:47] Maggie: This is how the Glee Boot opens.
[23:50] Andrew: This is actually how the Glee Boot opens. And it's an ad for DoorDash.
[23:58] Maggie: If it's on Disney Plus, you know what I heard? You know what I heard? Disney Plus is taking no, there is a non, there will no longer be a non-ad option. Every Disney Plus membership, no matter what your level of pain is, will have ads.
[24:12] Andrew: So you know what James said to me? He said, so we're back to having cable, but we're paying four times the price.
[24:19] Maggie: Yes, I hate it here.
[24:21] Andrew: I hate it here.
[24:22] Maggie: I hate it here.
[24:23] Andrew: I hate it here.
[24:25] Maggie: I'm in hell.
[24:26] Andrew: There's a lot to be scared of. The world as we know it, both Glee Boot and other things.
[24:33] Allison: The Glee Boot.
[24:34] Andrew: What else? What final things do I need to say about the Glee Boot? I'm excited. It really lit a fire underneath me. I needed a fire lit underneath me. I remember there were literally the three of us around a fire recently when I was like, I got to get real with the Gleeks. Sometimes I don't want to talk about this damn show. I don't want to be doing this anymore. I don't want to be doing this anymore, Grandpa. But then Ryan Murphy, Grandpa himself gets on a red carpet. Oh my God. I'm just like, I'm back to the beginning. I'm back. He heard your call and your prayer set around the campfire and he was like, I'm coming to save Andrew and the Gleeks.
[25:15] Maggie: It is really brave of Ryan Murphy though to take on this project in any way, shape or form. Because of all the fandoms in the world, the Gleeks are going to be the fucking hardest to oppress. They are going to absolutely slit his throat if he does not do a good job.
[25:36] Andrew: I'm scared for his safety, frankly, if he doesn't do a good job.
[25:39] Maggie: I'm scared for him.
[25:41] Andrew: I think it would be extremely difficult to pull off writing out all the people who have passed. I don't know how you'd pull it off.
[25:52] Allison: Puck.
[25:53] Andrew: I think that you can write out Puck quite easily. Not a fan favorite character. I know it's easy to just give a sentence, but I'm just talking about in the context of actual good episode writing and good plot writing. I think you'd have to handle it with a little bit of nuance.
[26:11] Maggie: There needs to be nuance.
[26:12] Andrew: I think that they'll find it. I'm really curious, Gleeks. Gleeks, please let me know what you think of this idea. I think that gay guy, Ryan Murphy, and this is the last thing that we'll say about the Glee Boot before we clock it. Gay guy, Ryan Murphy, I feel like I've really studied his mind over the years. And I think that in this past year, we saw that Naya Rivera's son has gotten into acting. And I think that I almost see gay guy, Ryan Murphy, seeing Naya Rivera's son get into acting, writing him just a small one episode role where it's like him and Heather Morris, and it's just like, hey, we're getting home to Santana. I think that would be a really nice tribute to see actual Naya's son, who is interested in acting, playing Britannia's child. And it's just like, that is kind of the tribute that we get. And it's like, it's just like an acknowledgement that the character is not here, and also like having her actual son in it, if you'd be willing, of course.
[27:28] Maggie: That's really fun.
[27:29] Andrew: I really, I think that that is very wholesome and lovely.
[27:34] Maggie: Yeah, yeah.
[27:35] Andrew: I think it's very, very touchy, of course. I think that there needs to be nuance with it, of course. And I think that they learned a lot of lessons from the quarterback that I don't think that they would do like a, like, hey, the Glee Boot starts, and it's like a tribute to Santana that feels just like, okay, I don't like that. But anyway, any final thoughts?
[28:00] Allison: I just think that, like you said, Andrew, I think that people go into reboots or sequels, even of things, whether it's TV or movies, I think wanting it to be an exact replica, in a sense, or like a revival of what like, picking up right where we left off with the same people. I agree and hope that I just think like, the 10 people slash around 10 people who are going to be involved, they aren't like the focus of the series. The focus of the show, because it's like, like you said, like, I think we need some new blood. And I think what we need is like the spirit of the show and what people made people fall in love with Glee and like the concept of Glee. And especially like the music behind it. Like, that's something we didn't talk about at all. But like, I'm really hoping that the song choice isn't—
[29:00] Andrew: I'm a little afraid it's going to be a little about money. Like, I'm a little afraid it's going to be about—
[29:04] Maggie: I'm afraid about that too. I think I'm scared artists might try to like, you know, put their shit on a platform where they can like get new songs.
[30:08] Allison Dodge: I was just so excited to see what they were going to sing. Was I happy with every single song that I saw in every episode? But no, of course not. Yeah, yeah. It's like when you go to a karaoke, you don't really necessarily care about anything anyone's singing. But like, you're like, Oh, maybe they're gonna sing a song that I like. But it's exciting to see someone sing their song.
[30:26] Maggie Lind: Yeah, yeah. And I think that like, that's the last thing we'll say before we go back.
[30:30] Allison Dodge: No, I have one last thing. Let the white women try to jut in. I try to jut. I'm trying to do the Allison Dodge thing where I'm just like, let's wrap this shit up. Yeah, I'm gonna do that. You can let me do that. I'm Allison Dodge. The last thing I'm going to say is, I hear what you two are saying about like, oh, a whole new crop of people, but that was done. And it was done twice in the original series. And let's be so fucking for real. They were not as liked as the OGs. So if they do introduce a whole new crop of cast, I hope that they write it so well that I give a fuck about the new people as much as I did about season one. Because we've said it throughout the history of this podcast is that a lot of those storylines were copy pasted.
[31:19] Maggie Lind: And yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's tough.
[31:26] Allison Dodge: To be fair, though. Sorry, one more thing, Andrew, I swear to God, I swear to God, I swear to God, I swear to God, I just also think, though, that it's hard to like, when you say copy and paste, I get you like the second the newbies, that it wasn't handled the way that it probably should have been. Granted, none of us are writers. And I know writing TV is hard, clearly, because we've been talking about how shitty lately.
[31:46] Andrew: Me too, me too. DoorDash. Ever heard of DoorDash the musical?
[31:54] Allison Dodge: And I just think that it's like also hard to not copy and paste like, what high school is like the high school experience. So I know that you talked in the last episode about it potentially being an IATA thing. I'm not even gonna entertain that idea. Because if that actually happened, people would fucking freak out. But it is hard to that's why I'm interested to see if they'll pull like more of like a Gen Z type thing of like what is actually, quote unquote, troubling kids today.
[32:21] Maggie Lind: That's not that's what I'm a million years old. I sound a million years old. But like, essentially, like, you can only copy and paste so much of like, people, you know, tackling their sexuality or people, you know, dealing with whatever mental health issues, like different things. It's like, that's the high school experience, because that's what teens go through. So it's like, it's gonna be it's gonna be interesting to see, like, what they're actually going to decide to do, or if it is just going to be a copy and paste to like make money.
[32:47] Allison Dodge: No, I, I think that it's coming from the last thing that I wanted to say was that this is the last thing. This is officially the last thing. The last thing that I wanted to say was that I think that I'm, I'm really curious to expand on your point, Maggie, that it's like, I'm curious, what is what's troubling, like, what what is troubling right kids today, that like, I think that I'm really fascinated. Like, I'm so thankful that I'm not in high school, like during MAGA, like that is so scary to me. I don't need Trump to be like this overarching idea in the Gleeboot. But I want his kind of like, the product of what he's done to be felt throughout characters in the series, because I'm just like, curious, like, I think that Glee came during Obama era, that like, very, like optimistic.
And I think that like, very, yeah, I'm very happy that it's the Glee boot is potentially coming in a kind of really dark time that it's like, yeah, what is going on? And what are these kids going to do? And how are they finding music as an outlet, too? I think that like, like camaraderie, I'm just really curious in seeing that. So I think that it is coming at a really good time. Personally.
[34:01] Andrew: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, speaking of the music, let's pull some songs. Also, I have some really exciting news. Um, as of this episode, at the end of this episode, we will have gotten rid of 600 songs from the Glackett.
[34:27] Maggie Lind: No wonder you don't want to do this anymore, Andrew.
[34:30] Allison Dodge: He's been doing this.
[34:32] Andrew: Oh, damn. And we already we are we talked our shit. And now for a really long time. We're and now we're gonna watch a really long song.
[34:38] Maggie Lind: Oh, maybe we're saying Bohemian Rhapsody, the longest song in the series.
[34:45] Andrew: Oh, okay. You already said it. It is Bohemian Rhapsody. You know what? I'm here for this. I know Allison's like, I'm about to leave, but I'm ready. I'm gonna feel this.
[35:04] Allison Dodge: Okay, she's a mother. She's a mother. Okay, Bohemian Rhapsody. That was literally I'm not using this casually. That was cinema.
[35:15] Maggie Lind: It was cinema. And I literally started to take notes based on our conversation. Um, the first one being I, and I'm just going to relate it to a completely different show, because it's at the top of my mind. But in off campus, there's a whole bit of the main character Hannah is doing also a singing competition. And she's working on this song. And she is working on a song with a partner, Justin that she has a crush on. He's kind of like taking the song in a direction she doesn't like, she ends up leaving the project.
[35:43] Allison Dodge: I am so used to like glee storylines where I'm like, Oh, Justin is has this whole agenda. He hates Hannah. He's faking his interest. He's going to steal the song and win the showcase.
[36:03] Maggie Lind: And pull a Jesse St. James type shit.
[36:08] Allison Dodge: Yeah, well, he doesn't do any of that. He's kind of just a Merp kind of guy like chaotic neutral, like doesn't really do anything to believe.
[36:18] Maggie Lind: But I've been trained to believe that trauma. I wish that the story had gone that way, because that was so much more interesting.
[36:24] Allison Dodge: Yeah. But while I was watching this, I was kind of taking our conversation from earlier are like copy paste concept of, okay, this is a storyline about teen pregnancy in the 2000s. How would they handle teen pregnancy in Gen Z terms? Like, I'd love to see the differences and the conversations there. I don't really know the answer to that.
[36:51] Maggie Lind: Yeah, but I think that there's something to be how I think that like, so much of season one is like equated with the Quinn pregnancy, that like, I don't think that I need season one of the Glee boot to be about pregnancy, maybe season two or season three, we have kind of that again. But I think that season one of Glee really use their advantage, this like framing device of like, hey, we get her to announce that she's pregnant in like episode three or some shit. And then by the season finale, she gives birth. And so like, I think that's like a really wonderful, like through line throughout the entire season that we don't need again.
[37:34] Allison Dodge: No.
[37:34] Maggie Lind: Yeah.
[37:39] Allison Dodge: Maggie, what are you thinking?
[37:39] Maggie Lind: Um, it, I found myself like, as I was watching that, like, my mind was just like, completely blank. And I don't know if that's like a good thing or a bad thing. Jonathan Groff. I every time I come on this podcast, I say something very horny about him. Because I'm really insanely attracted to him.
[38:06] Allison Dodge: Yeah, but I think that my obsession has eclipsed hers. I think she definitely like gave it to me. I inherited that from her through I don't know what osmosis or something.
[38:21] Maggie Lind: But no, I am being 100% serious. I think this is the best he's ever looked on the show. Like, he looks really, really good. Pink looks really fucking phenomenal on him.
[38:35] Allison Dodge: Yeah.
[38:35] Maggie Lind: Um, I was trying to do like a thing where I was like, seen if they cut to the Quinn in the hospital scenes, every time he said a word that was associated with like, with birth babies.
[38:43] Allison Dodge: Yeah.
[38:50] Maggie Lind: Mom. Yeah, I was like, I was like, trying. I think that's why I also made a comment about the faces we were making. That's why my face was so like, posthumous, like pondering because I'm like, Okay, are they like trying to do something here? I don't think they were I think they I think that
[39:07] Allison Dodge: that's either the I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing about like, like Andrew said about it being like cinema, like, it felt like I was like, trying to catch them doing something that I was like, Oh, it's a gotcha moment. I'm gonna see you trying to do this thing.
[39:16] Maggie Lind: But like, I just think it was so well done. But it's like, there was nothing to be seen. It was just like, this is the absolute fucking brilliant, like mind baby, no pun intended, of like what Ryan Murphy was trying to make with the show was like, yeah, this absolute musical chaos. Like, that's what this was. It was literally like musical chaos to me. Yes. In a really, really good way.
[39:39] Allison Dodge: Jealous of like, not being able to be in Ryan's brain when he came up with this, because like, you know that it was working in overdrive when it was like, yeah, yeah, and Quinn gives birth. And it's, it's, it's cut, it's intercut, interwoven with Bohemian Rhapsody. And every time that they say, Mama, they also cut back to Quinn who's saying mommy.
[40:06] Maggie Lind: They're gonna do a crowning choreo.
[40:15] Allison Dodge: And I'm just like, I like literally his mind was working. Maybe harder than it ever has, and ever will. He held hands with God.
[40:21] Maggie Lind: He touched peepees with God.
[40:25] Allison Dodge: Yeah.
[40:29] Maggie Lind: What, um, he, what are they, uh, sword fight?
[40:35] Allison Dodge: Sword fighting with God is that title of episode?
[40:37] Maggie Lind: That's the title of the episode.
[40:44] Allison Dodge: Um, what this, uh, to be real, and talk about Gleeboot again, really quick.
[40:46] Andrew: Oh God, Andrew.
[40:46] Allison Dodge: I need to talk. Gleeboot literally woke me up. And I told Elias that I'm like, hey, by the way, this is going to be a long road. I need you to know that like, Gleeboot, like you, I talk about Glee on a regular basis, but now it's kind of going to be kicked into hyperdrive now.
[41:11] Maggie Lind: Um, but, uh, what really kind of like made me think about Gleeboot with this performance is Mercedes and Quinn and the lack of like, their friendship. I think that like, so much of like, the Glee that I love is these kind of characters that are coming from opposite sides of like the high school food chain, whatever, that are interacting, and they're finding similarities in like, in these like, very specific ways that it's like, Quinn and Mercedes found what connected them. And I love Quinn being like, Mercedes is actually going in the delivery room with me. Love that.
[41:49] Allison Dodge: And I think that like, for the Gleeboot, I want to see more of these kind of like, I think audiences are smart and they're like, we know what kind of characters like, naturally go together. But we also want to see who like, these random kind of pairings that really are fun and they work.
[42:06] Maggie Lind: Finding similarities in the dissimilar.
[42:09] Allison Dodge: Yeah.
[42:10] Andrew: Now that we're at the big age of three X, not going to fill in the final number. Um, how do we feel about watching content about like, 16 year olds?
[42:27] Allison Dodge: Oh, Allison, I've talked about this. I've talked about this on my podcast. Hey, plug. Everybody listen to Skip or Scream. I've talked about this with Cassie on my podcast.
[42:39] Maggie Lind: I found myself feeling really weird about it. Actually, last week, because I rewatched, for some fucking reason, the last three episodes of The Summer I Turned Pretty.
[42:52] Allison Dodge: I don't know why I did it. I don't know what in my brain.
[42:55] Maggie Lind: What age is that show?
[42:57] Allison Dodge: 17.
[42:58] Maggie Lind: But then, but then it goes to like, it has a pretty significant time jump in between the last in the last season. Significant in like, three to four years.
[43:07] Allison Dodge: Yeah.
[43:14] Maggie Lind: So young adults, like they're out of college. But I felt very icky. And I don't know if it was just that specific story. Or what? Because I haven't had that really.
[43:28] Allison Dodge: I feel like with Sterling Point is another Amazon Prime TV show. And it's like, all of this hype, and people were kind of hyping it in the same way they were hyping off campus. And I was like, another steamy show. And it's like, Oh, no, there's
[43:43] Maggie Lind: Yeah, I feel well, I feel weird I couldn't finish it I was like, let's talk about the Gleeboot again for a second here, Andrew. Please. What do you think? Because I mean, I know, yeah, we haven't talked about it enough. What do you think? Because this isn't gonna be on channel slash Network TV. It's not gonna be on the air. Do you think that they're gonna be more graphic? Do you think they're gonna show like more sex scenes? Because they really don't, I mean, it's implied obviously in OG Glee.
[44:11] Andrew: I don't need it to be kind of like this like babyfied version of like High School Musical: The Musical: The Series that like they're not doing that. We're like Glee is like kind of they're doing it, but they're not like showing explicitly.
[44:30] Maggie Lind: Jesus Christ, freak. Other shows for that. God. Then you have it some incest interested in watching because like obviously Glee, we watched Glee all three of us while we were in high school as we were the age of the characters. And so like I, and it's still resonate. It like kind of made an impact with our parents, other adults like there. So I think that I'm curious of watching a Ryan Murphy teen show as an adult and seeing like what the differences are. And I think that I guess it is smart for them to be like kind of like picking up with like, hey, here are the characters that you knew in high school. We know that you're the same age as them now and so like now we're kind of like catching up and you can relate to them because they're also in this stage of life that you are.
[45:31] Allison Dodge: Yeah. Oh my gosh. I just had like a revelation kind of actually when thinking about it, let's just say post-COVID to kind of put it into a smaller time frame. All of the TV shows that I think I've consumed that have been teen, actual teens. No, sorry, not I shouldn't say actual teens, but the characters being portrayed in the show were teenagers aka pre-college have been really not good to me. And I think that I'm realizing now it's because those were actually geared towards teens, which is really weird target audience.
[46:08] Maggie Lind: No, but here's not, this play isn't about me. No, that sounds like duh, Maggie. But what I mean by that is there seems to be, I think possibly because of BookTok and the shows that are being made, the shows that are geared towards young adults aka college and older seem to be towards people that are our age. It is not made for actual 19 to 25 year olds. It's made for people our age. Like let's be real. Things like bills, we're like, yeah, things like off-campus, they're 19 and 20, but it's like 19 and 20 year olds don't give a fuck about it and don't want to watch it. So it's like, I'm sorry, I just like had that little brain epiphany where I'm like, because I'm like, for some reason, Percy Jackson, I said it once, it's like the top of my brain, but I'm just thinking about Disney Plus shows. Like that is like kids who are like 15, like young, like younger kids. And it's like, yeah, that was a flop for me, but I bet younger kids liked it. Like they probably loved it.
[47:05] Allison Dodge: Yeah, so that's why I'm like, I'm a little worried about the Gleeboot now in my head. I'm thinking, oh my god, I hope I like, I'm still invested in kids because we were so invested in it as kids because we were watching people like us. And I'm like, oh my god, what if I'm not invested because I am? Who's gonna be the target audience? Is it the nostalgia factor?
[47:25] Maggie Lind: Oh, yeah.
[47:27] Allison Dodge: People who grew up with it or is it gonna be a whole new audience? Because I think that will determine where they take it.
[47:33] Andrew: Yeah, it's cast what they do, but that's gonna be such an important decision to make frankly. Like that's gonna be a really tough call to be like, yeah.
[47:40] Maggie Lind: Yeah.
[47:45] Allison Dodge: Any final notes about "Bohemian Rhapsody"? Frankly, there's just like not a lot to say about it because it's like, I'm sorry, but yeah, it's pretty perfect. And when the phrase "no notes" was really written for the song, there are frankly no notes. Like it's just really, really fun. It's camp. It's good singing. It's hot people. It's absolute cinema and it's great.
[48:08] Maggie Lind: That being said, I was gonna just gonna say that being said, I could easily kick this to the curb.
[48:15] Allison Dodge: Yeah, yeah, it's kind of nothing burger for me.
[48:19] Maggie Lind: I mean everything bagel, but also nothing burger at the same.
[48:23] Andrew: Mm-hmm.
[48:23] Maggie Lind: Okay, so we're gonna have a big conversation about this one.
[48:29] Allison Dodge: See you six.
[48:30] Maggie Lind: Actually, oh my notebook ready and we have a feeling that this song was gonna be in this episode and I was right in six.
[48:39] Andrew: I don't even know from season six. Maggie, Allison, do you know what this is?
[48:43] Allison Dodge: Yeah, I know what this is.
[48:47] Maggie Lind: Okay. No, I don't. Oh wait, is that Dot Marie Jones?
[48:53] Allison Dodge: Yeah, it is Dot Marie Jones and Alex Newell.
[48:58] Andrew: It is "I Know Where I've Been."
[49:07] Maggie Lind: Hey guys, oh my heart stopped there for a second.
[49:14] Allison Dodge: Well, actually, Andrew, I'm a little mad at you and here's why. Here's what you missed. Ever since the last episode and you talked about watching performances where you feel like the emotion being displayed is like, oh, kind of cheese, but not, yeah, not it.
[49:28] Maggie Lind: Yeah, like an act quote-unquote, which is a dumb thing to say because they are literally acting. They are actors in a show, television show. It was really hard for me to not see that in this performance now after really that. Not the vocals. Oh, this arrangement is ten out of ten, perfectly flawless. There is like, it is better than the original. I mean, it's different because it's not, you know, like a straight-up just artist. It's true.
[50:01] Allison Dodge: Yeah, from a musical, but flawless, flawless, flawless, flawless. I could listen to Alex Newell sing like every single song, the fucking phone book.
[50:09] Maggie Lind: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[50:11] Allison Dodge: But there was something really weird, I think about just like, yeah, not like to rag on Dot Marie Jones' performance or anything, but like, and Leah Michele, I don't know if anybody saw that the weird-ass face Leah Michele makes the one scene they cut.
[50:27] Maggie Lind: Wait, smile?
[50:30] Allison Dodge: It's a really, your best. I don't recall it.
[50:30] Maggie Lind: Oh, she's like kind of like doing like the white people smile when they see someone.
[50:36] Allison Dodge: Oh, she, yeah, she's like dimpling out. She's dimpling out and she's like a mix between like, oh, isn't this precious and oh, I'm happy for you kind of, but I wish it was about me. Like it was just like, it was really giving weird vibes, really, really weird vibes.
[51:01] Maggie Lind: I think that's one of the things about the Gleeboot that I want, bring a background storylines that I think are important to be treated with care. And yeah, I think this is like treated with care. I think that like I was watching it and I was like, I think thinking about the damn Gleeboot again. I think that this performance would hit so much more now than it did then. I just remember me personally as a 19-year-old watching this for the first time, only like the only kind of like exposure to transness that I had was Laverne Cox in Orange is the New Black and Unique on Glee. And I didn't like think like I was like, okay, these are characters like I'm cool with it, whatever. I think that we have like, not to get too political, whatever, but like I think we've gotten to a crazy point where it's like blaming all this shit on trans people that I think now it would hit more seeing that kind of performance than it did then. I was like, oh, this is nice. Yeah, I was like, oh yeah, sweet.
[52:15] Allison Dodge: Yeah, but now it's like, oh no, they're actually like I actually understand that as an adult watching.
[52:18] Maggie Lind: Yeah, yeah.
[52:30] Allison Dodge: I always think this is gonna, this song starts with "There's a light" and I always think it's gonna be "There's a light over at the Frankenstein."
[52:32] Maggie Lind: It never is.
[52:35] Allison Dodge: I always think about with this performance the logistics of what we as an audience member are led to believe of every time someone comes out as trans, they have this entire choir kind of just like haul ass to bumfuck wherever and just be like in the dark for a little while.
[52:54] Maggie Lind: Hey, hey, hundreds of people, do you mind just sitting in the dark? Don't talk, don't make any noise. We have to show this other choir to not fuck with trans people.
[53:12] Allison Dodge: Also practice the song. Did they practice it together? Did they practice it alone? Where are they all staying?
[53:18] Maggie Lind: Where are they all staying? Did they book a block of rooms at the local Hyatt or like what?
[53:23] Allison Dodge: Yeah, I need to know. That's what I want to know. Who's expensing it?
[53:28] Maggie Lind: Exactly.
[53:29] Allison Dodge: Yeah, William McKinley, I don't think so. I don't know. I did see this just for carousel reasons. I did see recently an interview with Amber Riley and TS Madison, who is one of the people in the choir, and she was like saying how shooting this scene that the main cast wasn't allowed to talk to anybody in the choir because like I'm not entirely as sure why, but like they were like kind of like afraid that they would like say anything not PC or something, so they were like literally like segregated.
[54:17] Maggie Lind: You can't talk to any of the choir?
[54:21] Allison Dodge: Yeah.
[54:23] Maggie Lind: Geez, that seems problematic and weird too. I need to go find the clip. But yeah, there was like they couldn't talk to each other.
[54:32] Andrew: Anyway, with this competition, it's kind of obvious to me even though I like both, like one a lot more than the other.
[54:40] Maggie Lind: Then let her rip.
[54:41] Allison Dodge: Speakers talk your shit. Talk your shit, baby.
[54:48] Andrew: "Bohemian Rhapsody," they're just doing a lot. I think that it's like, it's cinema.
[54:53] Maggie Lind: Oh, so we're voting for the best scene on Glee, the best scene.
[54:56] Allison Dodge: Since you talk.
[54:56] Maggie Lind: Damn, no.
[54:56] Allison Dodge: But I think that like imagine like a version of the season one finale where we get Quinn's birth as just like a singular scene and then we get the "Bohemian Rhapsody" as a singular scene. And I'm just like, that's so boring. This is fun.
[55:12] Maggie Lind: And also like Glee porn.
[55:14] Allison Dodge: It really is Glee porn. I think that this is like, it's in also like New Directions needed to lose. So I'm like, I'm glad that they've lost to something like they needed to make it like epic what they lost to.
[55:30] Maggie Lind: So yeah, I'm going with you. "Bohemian Rhapsody," baby.
[55:32] Allison Dodge: "Bohemian Rhapsody," same. "Bohemian Rhapsody" all the way. That's a three for a baby.
[55:36] Maggie Lind: Can we go with how far do we actually think that this song is gonna go?
[55:41] Allison Dodge: That's what I'm kind of saying. I've said at the beginning it's going to the end, but I know that I said it go into the final competition. I think it's gonna be one this and so I frankly think that people hype this song up too much.
[55:54] Maggie Lind: I know I said a lot of really high praises for "Bohemian Rhapsody," but I also am mostly in agreement with Allison in terms of like part of it too is the song. Like I'm sorry, but part of it too is because "Bohemian Rhapsody" is arguably one of the best songs ever, right?
[56:09] Allison Dodge: Well, I think that like, so it's like, I don't know. I think, okay, I don't think that a Vocal Adrenaline song could make it to semi-finals, whatever.
[56:19] Maggie Lind: I think it could. I think because there are so much pan away to the New Directions, I think this song is gonna make it.
[56:27] Allison Dodge: I think this song is gonna make it further than it deserves, honestly.
[56:34] Maggie Lind: I think it's going to rely heavily on a mix of people depending on who your Gleeks of the week are and I think it's gonna somehow, some way, find itself towards the end in a way that it shouldn't be, but we'll see.
[56:41] Allison Dodge: Okay, final competition.
[56:55] Maggie Lind: Oh, we're getting kind of like emo, emo, but like, oh, this is cute.
[57:07] Andrew: Oh no, that is just precious.
[57:11] Allison Dodge: We all know it, we all know it, we all love it.
[57:18] Maggie Lind: I think this is one of those that should we just sing along to it?
[57:20] Andrew: I was gonna, I'm gonna, I think that we should win all the words.
[57:25] Maggie Lind: You, I think you'll know the words, Maggie. I know that.
[57:27] Allison Dodge: Trust that Allison does.
[57:34] Andrew: There's a reason.
[57:38] Maggie Lind: Oh, I don't think about this recently.
[57:45] Allison Dodge: Oh, I've been thinking.
[57:46] Andrew: Yeah, let's do it.
[57:46] Maggie Lind: Okay.
[57:50] Maggie Lind: Fuck it.
[57:50] Allison Dodge: I think we should sing.
[57:50] Andrew: Okay.
[57:53] Andrew: Okay, so of course we're looking at "Happy Days Are Here Again/Get Happy."
[57:53] ♪ Musical number: "Happy Days Are Here Again/Get Happy" — performed by the Glee Cast ♪
[58:06] Allison Dodge: You know, I was absolutely fucking insane during that whole thing was Allison was on a different track in my headphones on than Andrew, then the recording, everything was going on.
[58:09] Maggie Lind: Every time.
[58:15] Andrew: So you were just like hearing like white noise.
[58:15] Allison Dodge: It was literally like geese honking. It was like geese honking in my ears.
[58:16] Andrew: If you want to hear Allison and I sing the song that just happened, you better become a patron. You better. Okay. Happy Days Are Here Again. Get happy. I'm getting happy. I'm happy right now. No, I was gonna say, this is how you felt when Ryan Murphy announced the Gleek. Forget your troubles. Come on, get happy.
[58:39] Allison Dodge: Exactly. Happy Days Are Here Again. He started out as Britney nosing a meatball across his sad little spaghetti plate and he ended like full mouth TMJ Rachel Berry singing like so high. I was holding that note. Yeah.
[58:54] Andrew: That's pretty good. I couldn't. Because I was singing, I didn't write anything down. So I don't actually know. What do we have to say about this song? Has anybody talked about... Rachel's sailor outfit.

[1:00:08] Andrew: Just hung out with them. Before we start recording, it's really awkward. Andrew pulls me aside and he says, look, don't make it a thing, but we fucking hate each other. We have to record. Executive producer asked for Allison to come back and I'm just being professional.

[1:01:05] Maggie Lind: I like Rachel and Kurt storylines just because I feel like they aspire for the same things.

[1:01:29] Andrew: Happy days.
[1:01:31] Maggie Lind: Um, do you have anything to say?
[1:01:33] Allison Dodge: Um, no, I mean, I did really enjoy that, especially the honking in my ears. But this song means absolutely nothing to me. Like, like, kind of heard less than nothing.

[1:09:47] Maggie Lind: Yeah, it's a fun competition, but I do think I have to say happy days are here again. Get happy is winning for me just because the itch that it scratches is vocally and the itch that no air scratches is like physically.
[1:10:00] Allison Dodge: Oh, so like, oh, scratching you physically. That was an interesting thing to say. It's kind of scratching me. The song is in your apartment scratching you. Scratching me? I'm uncomfortable. I'm hating it. I like it a little bit. Um, we gotta get this song declawed. Yeah.
[1:10:21] Andrew: Yeah. Um, I really like, come on, get happy. I want to hear that again. Oh, oh, wait. I think I know what's happening. I'm voting for no air. Fuck. And I know Andrew's not gonna go Andrew. Stop. Quit it. Quit being performative. I know you're not voting for no air. I know you're not even acting like this.
[1:10:44] Allison Dodge: Yes, you are. No, my thing. I'm mad.
[1:10:50] Andrew: Wait, you think you think that I'm gonna vote for happy days?
[1:10:53] Allison Dodge: Yeah, 100%. Unless you have, do you want to say something about no air? Because I just like feel like, based on our discourse that you just like, like, happy days better.
[1:11:07] Andrew: My days, I think this was brought up last round around the song is that should be getting points for doing a mashup that already exists. Oh, they're not doing this. They're not doing a fun arrangement. They're kind. They're doing something that already exists. And they're doing an homage, of course, to this Judy duet. Maggie, what do you think?
[1:11:33] Maggie Lind: I don't understand. Allison, I this this seems you seem like you were very strongly opinionated about this. And I'm honestly, I'm at a loss for understanding why. What about the performance is like, it's just not very moving to me like nothing in it. It's like,
[1:11:54] Allison Dodge: wait, but then I and but then I raise your range. Yeah. Tell me how we can get that.
[1:12:04] Andrew: There's a million. There's a million of those in the entire fucking series. I love it when Rachel goes full Barbara. Capital B. I love that it scratches an itch on my brain. It makes me happy. I get little tinglys. We need more Corey. We need more Corey and left in the bracket. I agree. I agree. I agree. But guess what? I voted. I voted for every fucking thing. So no, you have it. I don't believe it. Show me if I leave.
[1:12:34] Allison Dodge: And motherfuckers get rid of all the fucking Benzos. I'm foaming at the fucking mouth. I'm talking. I'm going to come over there, Allison. And you're my neighbor. Now you can walk here.
[1:12:44] Andrew: Yeah, I am going to walk there. I'll throw a flaming bag at your front door. And we'll talk about Taylor Swift.
[1:12:50] Andrew: And we'll talk about No Air vs. Happy Days Are Here Again, bitch. Come on over!
[1:13:21] Maggie Lind: Okay, Andrew. Allison, I'm going to pretend you're not even there. I'm going to cover your face with my hand. Andrew, if you're going to tell me that this is Glee porn being No Air, if that is truly Glee porn to you, you have no reason. Happy Days has no leg to stand on for you to give it your vote. If you truly think that No Air is Glee porn, like, let's be real. You said the arrangement's not original. The arrangement's not original. The scene, not doing much other than Brittany nudging a meatball with her nose. It's not giving. I'm sorry. It's not giving. Diana, like, almost crying when she's like, you have to pay for me. Weird vibes. Weird vibes. Okay. Weird vibes. Otherwise, it's literally just neck swaying.
It's neck swaying. Awkward neck swaying. And then- And the power they have in just neck swaying. And them loudly fucking jaw unhinged like a snake singing. And that's, you know what, I've said all I can say. I'll be at peace with whatever you decide. Just let it be known that me and Allison aren't friends anymore. But if there's anything that this show can do, it can bring us back together in unexpected ways. Oh, it's beautiful. Through song. Through song. No air.
[1:14:37] Maggie Lind: I think that like, okay, I hear the Nor'easter going crazy outside. So I desperately want to finish this recording. You need to tell us. Okay, well, we're on pins and needles. I need to make a decision. Listen, I have a few strikes against Happy Days Are Here Again, Get Happy. I do. Okay, let's hear what they are. What I already said about like, you're doing- The arrangement. You're doing a mashup that already exists. I'm not giving you points for doing a mashup if it already exists in the culture. And also, I think that Happy Days Are Here Again, Get Happy is also symbolic of the death of Kurt and Mercedes' friendship. Oh, fuck. That it's like, oh, actually, we're not investing in this friendship anymore.
We are doing a full beeline. Four minutes comes after this. What? Does four minutes come after this song? Four minutes is before this. Canonically? Four minutes is before. Oh, great, great, great. I'm gonna crawl in a little fucking hole. Yeah, great. You stupid bitch. That was season one. Oh, you stupid fucking bitch. I hate you. I hope the Nor'easter takes me out and I'm not even on the East Coast. I don't give a fuck. I hope the Nor'easter takes me out.
[1:16:03] Maggie Lind: Okay, so with that, No Air kind of just like, really grabbed me. And it was like, it was such a Glee, it was such a like a capital G Glee performance that it was like, I love them walking down the hallways. I love them starting in the choir room and then ending on stage. I love Quinn just like doing the like the sidestep and she's angsty and she's mad. She's angsty. I just I think that that like really woke me up. I really like No Air. Happy Days Are Here Again, of course, much love. But it needs to be No Air. No Air, you got my vote.
[1:16:44] Andrew: You guys, I, Andrew, I really needed a win because Can't Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You and Halo Walking On Sunshine was like, honestly, the worst moment of my life when it comes to this podcast. Literally, those are my top three songs. What are you voting for between those two?
[1:17:02] Maggie Lind: Wait, say it again. I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You.
[1:17:04] Andrew: Yeah, and Halo Walking On Sunshine.
[1:17:07] Maggie Lind: She's voting Can't Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You.
[1:17:10] Andrew: No, and I understand. It's just like, that was like, no, genuinely imagine your favorite two songs ugly. That actually happened to me. I don't know if very many people can say on this podcast. That literally happened to me. If it's Somewhere We Go Sometimes versus I'm Not Gonna Teach My Boyfriend How To Dance With You.
[1:17:26] Maggie Lind: My Boyfriend.
[1:17:26] Andrew: I think my boyfriend, I think I would just log out. I would log out, block Andrew's number and I would walk into the Hudson River even though I'm in Minnesota.

[1:17:38] Andrew: I would walk on over. Wow, I don't think that the Gleeks, the Gleeks are gonna be really upset with me for-

[1:19:01] Andrew: My computer died.
[1:19:02] Maggie Lind: Okay, Allison's computer died. This is a cursed episode. Okay, Bohemian Rhapsody.
[1:19:13] Andrew: Is this the real life or is this just fantasy?
[1:19:15] Maggie Lind: No, it's real, girl. You made it to the next round.
[1:19:20] Andrew: I know where I've been and I know where you're staying.
[1:19:23] Maggie Lind: And I know where you're staying, you're staying in round four.
[1:19:27] Andrew: Happy Days Are Here Again, Get Happy.
[1:19:29] Maggie Lind: Don't, well, actually Get Sad because you lost.
[1:19:32] Andrew: Get Sad.
[1:19:33] Maggie Lind: And No Air.
[1:19:34] Andrew: There's definitely some air in the golden pearly gates of heaven that you've-
[1:19:40] Maggie Lind: Whoa, heaven of round five.
[1:19:43] Andrew: Of round five, right? Incredible, that is right, Andrew. Allison would like to promote, what would she like to promote?
[1:19:52] Maggie Lind: She would like to promote-
[1:19:54] Andrew: She would like to promote Off Campus, I think.
[1:19:56] Maggie Lind: Yeah, she's trying to call me right now, wait. The love hypothesis, put her on, put that bitch on.
[1:20:02] Andrew: Hey, we're at the end of the episode. Do you want to just say anything to the Gleeks before you go?
[1:20:06] Allison Dodge: I think I'm rejoining. Am I not rejoining?
[1:20:09] Andrew: You're not rejoining.
[1:20:10] Allison Dodge: I think you're good.
[1:20:11] Andrew: You don't need to come back. We're at the end of the episode. You just, just say goodbye to the Gleeks.
[1:20:18] Allison Dodge: Gleeks, I love you so much. When I was throwing up laughing, when I just left. Thank you so much. Good night, Gleeks.
[1:20:27] Andrew: Good night, Gleeks.
[1:20:28] Allison Dodge: And they're listening to it in the morning. Good morning, Gleeks. Have a great day.
[1:20:34] Andrew: Okay, I'll talk to you later.
[1:20:35] Allison Dodge: She covered all our bases. Bye.
[1:20:38] Andrew: Maggie, do you want to say anything to the Gleeks?
[1:20:41] Maggie Lind: Gleeks, I don't know. Just be kind to each other and be specifically- Sorry if you don't like my takes, but they are what they are.
[1:20:50] Andrew: You're fine.
[1:20:51] Maggie Lind: I don't think that you've said anything crazy.
[1:20:53] Andrew: I don't think I have either. But sometimes the Gleeks can be a little spooky-ooky scary, so-
[1:20:57] Maggie Lind: They can be.
[1:20:58] Andrew: But I think we've reached an understanding this far into the Glocket that like, hey, it's not going to go everyone's way. And we're just kind of-
[1:21:05] Maggie Lind: I think we have reached an understanding.
[1:21:07] Andrew: About the journey.
[1:21:07] Maggie Lind: You're right. It's about the journey, not the destination.
[1:21:11] Andrew: Right. Although, in this case, it is kind of about the destination.
[1:21:15] Maggie Lind: Everybody streams Skip or Scream. It's iconic.
[1:21:18] Andrew: Hey, come listen to us talk about scary movies, you guys.
[1:21:23] Maggie Lind: Please.
[1:21:24] Andrew: Please. I'm really excited to see Resident Evil. I'm going to see that this week.
[1:21:29] Maggie Lind: Hey.
[1:21:29] Andrew: Have you ever seen it? Have you already seen it?
[1:21:31] Maggie Lind: Girl, I saw it opening night.
[1:21:33] Andrew: I could watch Austen Abrams read a damn phone book.
[1:21:36] Maggie Lind: I love that, man. Did you like it?
[1:21:37] Andrew: Love it?
[1:21:38] Maggie Lind: Got to have it?
[1:21:38] Andrew: I loved. I loved. I loved. I loved. I loved.
[1:21:41] Maggie Lind: I thought it was sen-sational.
[1:21:43] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:21:45] Maggie Lind: I'm really excited. Text me the second you step out of the theater.
[1:21:48] Andrew: The trailer really, I don't know.
[1:21:50] Maggie Lind: I don't know.
[1:21:50] Andrew: I don't know.
[1:21:51] Maggie Lind: I don't know.
[1:21:52] Andrew: I don't know.
[1:21:53] Maggie Lind: I don't know.
[1:21:54] Andrew: The trailer really spooked me to my core in a really great way. I really loved it.
[1:21:57] Maggie Lind: I don't think you're going to like it, but-
[1:22:00] Andrew: Oh, you don't think I will?
[1:22:01] Maggie Lind: That's good. My expectation is going to be low for you. So that way it can only be surpassed, hopefully.
[1:22:08] Andrew: Oh, great. I'm really excited to see it. I saw Primetime yesterday. Do you see that?
[1:22:12] Maggie Lind: Ooh, the film festival that I was at last week, Primetime was there. And I wasn't able to get a ticket, but I will probably go see it.
[1:22:21] Andrew: How is it?
[1:22:22] Maggie Lind: How's Robbie?
[1:22:22] Andrew: How's Robbie in it?
[1:22:23] Maggie Lind: He's great. I think he's one of the only actors-
[1:22:26] Andrew: He's so good.
[1:22:27] Maggie Lind: ... that is still doing things that are making fun choices. He's such a breath of fresh air. I will say about the movie, it did feel like halfway through the movie, I was like, this is a feature length SNL skit of a dramatized Chris Hansen movie.
[1:22:47] Andrew: Sure, sure.
[1:22:48] Maggie Lind: Where the jerk kind of just gets dragged along for 100 minutes. And so I did have problems with that. I thought there were Skyler Jacindo, you know who I'm talking about?
[1:23:03] Andrew: The guy?
[1:23:06] Maggie Lind: Yeah, he's playing the baby boy.
[1:23:10] Andrew: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:23:12] Maggie Lind: Incredible performance. I don't think that he's going to get nominated for Best Supporting Actor, but I do believe that he should win. I think he was so incredible. Him and Austin Abrams, bring it back, have been doing a lot of press together. Because he's been promoting Primetime and Austin Abrams has been promoting Resident Evil. And they're the same age and same kind of vibe. So apparently growing up in the acting biz, they went up for a lot of the same parts.
[1:23:41] Andrew: So they used to have a rivalry, like a like, not like aggressive rivalry, but they kind of used to have like a thing where like, we both audition for the same things.
[1:23:48] Maggie Lind: Yeah. Yes, yes. Do you think Robert Pattinson is going to be nominated for lead actor? Or do you think he's going to be nominated for like a supporting for Odyssey?
[1:24:00] Andrew: I personally, I would be, I think that he does need to get a nomination this year. Just because like, it's almost like an Anne Hathaway thing where it's like, you do enough movies in one year. One of them needs to get nominated.
[1:24:15] Maggie Lind: Yeah.
[1:24:16] Andrew: And so I personally, I think that I liked his performance at Odyssey. I don't know. Can I say that I like that better? I like they were just really different. I just I would be happy if he got nominated for either or both. I think that'd be really fun.
[1:24:29] Maggie Lind: Yeah, he kind of gives me like Nic Cage vibes.
[1:24:35] Andrew: Yes, totally. The way that he acts reminds me of how Nicolas Cage acted in his prime, like he was in fucking everything. And it's just really fun. Say what you want about him as a person. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the art, not the artist. And I just think watching Robbie P on the big screen is usually a good time. What a charismatic guy. I really like him. And I was thinking like, after I left primetime last night, that like, how impressive it is that Robert Pattinson, who built his career on a female fan base, Twilight, that like, I'm leaving primetime and the line for the men's bathroom is like down the hall that I'm like, there's so many men that are coming out to watch a Robert Pattinson movie that I think it's really, really impressive that he kind of like shifted his career to be like, hey, I'm not.
[1:25:34] Maggie Lind: He's like, not kind of like trying to market towards women.
[1:25:38] Andrew: Sure. Sure. Yeah, sure. He famously said that he would do more Twilight movies.
[1:25:44] Maggie Lind: Oh, really?
[1:25:46] Andrew: Yeah, that he would do remakes if they ever wanted to do remakes that he would do them. So girl, you best believe I'm going to be hoping and wishing that that gets done. But also, I think he got a lot of the men with Batman. I think he, I mean, it was fine and sinkered a lot about a lot of boys, boys and men. And I think that he had a big thing with Odyssey, too, that like I've heard so many straight guys quote, and I think this is such a fun quote from Odyssey. Somebody get these beggars out of here.
[1:26:16] Maggie Lind: Obsessed.
[1:26:18] Andrew: I'm like, yeah, it's really really. He sunk his teeth into these straight men.
[1:26:23] Maggie Lind: Yeah, I don't remember who I was talking to, but he plays a sniveling weasel really well is what someone said that to me. And I was like, yes, he's done like a few like Studio Ghibli movies. Do you know about this?
[1:26:34] Andrew: We're like, really?
[1:26:35] Maggie Lind: Yeah.
[1:26:36] Andrew: Like, um, he voice acts, he voice acts. And he's like playing like, it's like you would not think that that's Robert Pattinson. But he's like playing these like kind of like, yeah, I see that. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. He kind of in a lot of interviews, he kind of puts on a voice. And I always was like, why is he doing that? And I think it was just like, I think it's just like, he's just an odd duck. And I think he makes those choices for no reason at all. None at all. Yeah. And I love that for him. Love him so much. Robert Pattinson. Maybe you'll be in the Glee boot.
[1:27:07] Maggie Lind: Maybe.
[1:27:08] Andrew: Maybe. Bring it back to Glee. Bring it back to Glee as we end. Until next week. Any final thoughts?
[1:27:15] Maggie Lind: No.
[1:27:15] Andrew: Bye Gleekies. Love you so much.
[1:27:18] Maggie Lind: Bye, Alison. Love you so much.
[1:27:20] Andrew: Bye, Andrew. Bye.
