[0:00] Andrew: We've got a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.
[0:09] Andrew: There's no rhyme or reason to it, so don't get mad at me.
[0:18] Andrew: Gleek it by Gleek it, we'll rank everyone to see which song will move closer to spot number one.
[0:26] Andrew: Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week. It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
[0:35] Andrew: The last time the three of us... What? That was iconic. That's the reason that I booked this pairing of guests again, because I was like, I don't remember specifically what we talked about, but I remember feeling really good about it after that. I'm like, that needs to happen again.
[0:52] Conor: When was this?
[0:53] Andrew: That was...
[0:54] Conor: That was a long time ago.
[0:55] Andrew: I think the episode was called Elephant in the Room.
[1:01] Emilee: Yes!
[1:01] Andrew: Because there's an elephant in the room.
[1:04] Emilee: Yes.
[1:07] Andrew: You've started me off now. This is going to be two seconds in.
[1:11] Andrew: Now we're in, because I sort of wanted to be the first one to kind of bring it over here.
[1:17] Andrew: Hey guys, just trying to make something happen over here.
[1:21] Andrew: Okay, so Glacket round four debut, Conor and Emilee.
[1:26] Conor: Hey!
[1:27] Emilee: Hello!
[1:28] Conor: Hey Gleeks!
[1:29] Emilee: Hey Gleeks!
[1:32] Andrew: Is there anything... Is this bizarre for you, Andrew? Because I'm not sure about you, Emilee. I just feel like I'm not processing that it's round four, but maybe, I don't know, have you, Andrew? Because you're a few episodes deep into it now. Do you know what I mean?
[1:46] Andrew: Um, yeah, it doesn't feel... There's some things that I feel like I'm not actually unpacking, you know? That I'm like, when I really do stop and think about it, that I'm like, wow, it's been years of doing this.
[2:01] Andrew: It's hard to, like, remember a time of my life when I was not weekly doing this process, which is kind of a crazy thing to sit with. So, insane.
[2:12] Andrew: But I got a really nice message from someone today that was like, hey, I just found your podcast and do you recommend starting from the beginning? Or should I, like, start with round four? Because there's, like, a lot of episodes and I'm like, literally, I don't want to tell you how to, like, manage your time.
[2:26] Andrew: But, um, start from the beginning! It's all fun!
[2:30] Emilee: Start from the beginning. Start from the beginning.
[2:36] Conor: There have been people on the Glacket before who are, like, maybe live stream participants or whatever, who've said, oh, I've just found the podcast two months ago and I'm listening.
[2:47] Emilee: Yeah, and they're in there actively.
[2:50] Conor: Yeah, and there's just, I forget how much kind of content is built up over years.
[2:57] Andrew: I haven't done the time. I'll do that at the end, where I'm like, if I add up all the hours of, like, content that's out there, it's probably, like, a month.
[3:06] Emilee: Yeah, because, like, when was your first episode, Emilee?
[3:11] Emilee: Um, it was back in round one, still.
[3:16] Emilee: I want to say, like, 2022.
[3:18] Andrew: Yep, I remember the episode was Heel Stay On In Bed.
[3:21] Emilee: Heel Stay On In Bed, yes!
[3:23] Emilee: With Allison and Andrew, yes!
[3:27] Andrew: That was when we had a Katy Perry, oh, it was applause!
[3:31] Emilee: That was applause.
[3:32] Andrew: It was the Katy Perry.
[3:33] Emilee: It prompted the conversation around Marley going back to Jake's room and having her heels on in bed.
[3:41] Andrew: Yes, as you would.
[3:45] Emilee: You don't know when you've got to make a break for it.
[3:47] Andrew: So, yeah.
[3:49] Emilee: I'm still on the team that Marley got what she deserved.
[3:52] Andrew: So, yeah.
[3:54] Conor: Yeah, you were kind of, does memory serve correct that you were kind of the one leading that charge?
[3:58] Emilee: I was, and I still will lead the charge.
[4:02] Andrew: That is iconic.
[4:03] Conor: You brought this up to Kevin and Jenna themselves, that it's like, hey, by the way, my name's Emilee. I fucking hate Marley for the shit that she did.
[4:12] Emilee: And they're like, uh, okay.
[4:14] Emilee: That's your, that's like kind of your thing, that it's like, that's your opinion that you're dying on.
[4:18] Andrew: Yeah.
[4:19] Emilee: That is so iconic.
[4:21] Andrew: No, because the reason I ask when Emilee's first episode is, is because Andrew, I know you don't do this, but I think probably just over a year ago, for whatever reason, I needed to listen back to one of the episodes.
[4:34] Emilee: I was, and I can't remember specifically why, like, it was like, you know me, unafraid to reference or not reference. I just needed to get into the flow.
[4:40] Andrew: And it's so depressing because, like, one of the first episodes I was on, it's so sad because, like, you can hear in the timber of our voices.
[4:51] Emilee: Oh, the nerves.
[4:52] Andrew: How much younger we were.
[4:54] Emilee: Oh, yes.
[4:55] Andrew: I was going to say nerves.
[4:56] Emilee: Yeah, like we get to sound young.
[4:58] Andrew: Yeah.
[4:58] Emilee: Like, it's so bleak.
[5:01] Andrew: Like, it's, no.
[5:02] Emilee: Are you talking, you're talking about, I remember, oh, your first episode was called something with the hallway.
[5:10] Emilee: It was called.
[5:11] Emilee: It was something like gay hallway.
[5:13] Emilee: Dancing.
[5:15] Emilee: Gay hallway singing or something like that, or dancing.
[5:17] Andrew: Because we were talking about Flashdance What a Feeling, that it was like the...
[5:20] Emilee: Flashdance What a Feeling.
[5:22] Andrew: The run through that Rachel and Tina do.
[5:25] Emilee: Yeah.
[5:26] Andrew: But are you talking about that episode or are you talking about another episode?
[5:29] Emilee: I think it was that episode, but it's basically any episode from, like, over two years ago.
[5:33] Emilee: Like, we all just sound so...
[5:35] Andrew: It's almost like a puberty.
[5:37] Emilee: Like, it's just so weird.
[5:39] Emilee: We just don't feel as beaten down.
[5:42] Andrew: And we...
[5:45] Emilee: There's so much more.
[5:46] Andrew: Etc.
[5:47] Emilee: Yeah.
[5:48] Andrew: Yeah.
[5:50] Emilee: Like, and now we're just more jaded, but in an iconic way, you know.
[5:51] Conor: An iconic way.
[5:53] Emilee: Um, do you want to gloicemail?
[5:55] Andrew: Yes.
[5:56] Shanice: Hi, Andrew. This is Shanice. I was on the podcast once on a live stream episode.
[6:01] Shanice: And to be honest, my competition was kind of a snooze.
[6:04] Shanice: So I didn't get to talk about what I think the winner of the Glacket would be.
[6:07] Shanice: I definitely think it's a mashup because of how unique they are.
[6:11] Shanice: I thought it would be fun for you and your guests to each name your top four mashups and what your winner would be.
[6:16] Shanice: My four are singing in the rain umbrella.
[6:20] Shanice: By the way, justice for that one. No one ever brings it up.
[6:23] Shanice: Rumor has it someone like you and I feel pretty unpretty.
[6:29] Shanice: My winner changes between the last two, but I usually land on I feel pretty unpretty.
[6:34] Shanice: So what about you guys?
[6:36] Andrew: Thanks for listening. Bye.
[6:37] Andrew: Shanice, you have my heart.
[6:40] Andrew: I love Shanice so much.
[6:42] Andrew: And Shanice was on a live stream episode with me.
[6:45] Andrew: Now I'm like, I'm forgetting.
[6:47] Andrew: I'm forgetting what competition she.
[6:48] Conor: It was definitely an ABBA song.
[6:51] Andrew: So let me look that up really quickly.
[6:56] Andrew: Wait, Emilee, do you have your top four mashups by any chance?
[7:00] Emilee: Just off the dome.
[7:03] Emilee: I'm writing them down because I also have.
[7:06] Emilee: So my top one is Rumor has it someone like you.
[7:11] Emilee: That's pretty obvious.
[7:12] Emilee: I feel pretty unpretty is close second.
[7:15] Emilee: They're like one in 1.5, really.
[7:19] Emilee: But I love the mashup that you just don't get, Andrew.
[7:26] Conor: The living on a prayer.
[7:27] Andrew: Oh, I don't get it.
[7:28] Emilee: Oh, Andrew, thank you for doing.
[7:32] Emilee: It's so good.
[7:33] Conor: Thank you for saying that.
[7:33] Emilee: I don't get how Andrew doesn't get that.
[7:35] Conor: That's so weird.
[7:36] Andrew: I don't get it, it's such a banger.
[7:41] Emilee: I feel like we've brought up before that, like you and I have like a lot of very similar opinions on a lot of things.
[7:47] Emilee: So it's like surprising to me the kind of like the differences.
[7:52] Conor: What specifically?
[7:53] Emilee: I always think about that.
[7:54] Emilee: Living on a prayer is kind of like hitting it for you that maybe it isn't for me.
[8:00] Emilee: I always think about how we have so much in common when it comes to our Glee takes, but it's like where we disagree is just so strange.
[8:07] Emilee: Like I another example of this before I jump into that question.
[8:10] Emilee: Yeah.
[8:10] Emilee: Is I really just do not understand this appeal for Broadway baby at all.
[8:15] Emilee: I don't get it.
[8:16] Emilee: I do not get it.
[8:17] Emilee: Never have, never will.
[8:18] Emilee: Even when I listen to Recovering Glee, I just don't get it.
[8:21] Emilee: I've been thinking about on that topic.
[8:24] Emilee: I have been thinking about like, okay, looking at like the songs that are confirmed in round fives already that I'm like, Broadway baby, as much as I love you, you don't deserve to be here.
[8:32] Emilee: It's kind of crazy that you're still around.
[8:35] Conor: Yeah.
[8:35] Emilee: Well, look, yes, another thing we agree on.
[8:39] Conor: We found another one.
[8:40] Emilee: What is that one against?
[8:42] Conor: That was against Mercy.
[8:43] Conor: So that was kind of like always going to be a layoff for whatever song was going to be up against Mercy in this round.
[8:48] Emilee: Yeah.
[8:50] Conor: Start me up living on a prayer, guys.
[8:52] Conor: The vocals are unbelievable.
[8:57] Conor: The Rachel and Mercedes vocal are unreal.
[9:02] Conor: Some of the best in the series.
[9:03] Emilee: I'm going to go in a limb and say it, but I feel like there's a certain kind of genre of song that you don't really love, Andrew, because I feel like you don't really love, which I feel like is definitely start me up living on a prayer's sister.
[9:20] Andrew: Blow me one last kiss.
[9:21] Emilee: I hate it.
[9:22] Andrew: Actually hate that one.
[9:24] Emilee: Do you know what I mean?
[9:24] Andrew: I feel like you don't like that kind of type of song.
[9:28] Emilee: I think, well, I think you were.
[9:30] Conor: Yeah, let's use our words.
[9:32] Emilee: The type of song is girls singing rock.
[9:36] Andrew: Maybe I'm not liking it.
[9:38] Emilee: Maybe you're not, which is so weird because my thesis about like just for example, Leah Michele's vocal, Leah Michele is obviously a Broadway musical theatre icon.
[9:50] Emilee: Okay, that's her wheelhouse.
[9:52] Emilee: But the genre just underneath that, where she really excels is in like that rock music.
[9:57] Emilee: It's sort of like the way and a lot of those musical theatre girlies are like that.
[10:01] Emilee: It's sort of like Idina Menzel's also like that, for example, Shoshana Bean, Eden Espinoza.
[10:07] Emilee: Eden Espinoza.
[10:08] Emilee: They all really excel in like rock singing.
[10:13] Emilee: And they just sound unbelievable doing it.
[10:17] Emilee: And it's why so many people love Glee cast version, only exception, because although that isn't necessarily rock, it is kind of adjacent to us.
[10:27] Conor: Is that like a categorically that's like what indie rock?
[10:31] Emilee: What is that?
[10:32] Emilee: I would say, yeah.
[10:34] Emilee: Someone's going to let me know that I was way off base.
[10:38] Andrew: Someone's going to be talking about that.
[10:40] Andrew: I think I want to immediately apologize because I, a minute ago, said that I don't like women singing rock music, which is actually kind of insane.
[10:51] Emilee: And I've been reeling with that ever since I said it.
[10:53] Conor: I guess so, yeah.
[10:56] Emilee: Also, so my fourth choice.
[10:59] Conor: Yes, please.
[11:00] Emilee: Something that I think you don't care for either, Andrew.
[11:04] Emilee: Just It's My Life Confessions.
[11:07] Andrew: Not liking that, which that's interesting.
[11:11] Emilee: Yeah, I'm not with you on that one, Emily.
[11:14] Emilee: I don't feel like it's egregious.
[11:17] Emilee: And I'm not totally anti It's My Life Confessions, like Andrew seems to be.
[11:20] Conor: But I'm not as strong on that one.
[11:22] Emilee: Bringing Segway back to what Shanice's competition was, was, you're completely correct, Mamma Mia.
[11:29] Conor: I don't think it was that boring of a competition, Shanice, because it was Mamma Mia versus Dreams, which I think people really do like Dreams a lot.
[11:39] Emilee: Mamma Mia did win.
[11:42] Andrew: Excuse me.
[11:43] Andrew: Mamma Mia did win.
[11:44] Emilee: See, I love Mamma Mia. That's one thing about me.
[11:46] Emilee: I love Mamma Mia.
[11:48] Conor: But in terms of mashups, Conor, what are the top four for you?
[11:54] Conor: Unfortunately, I just kind of have the same answers as everyone else.
[11:59] Conor: That's fine.
[12:00] Conor: I do.
[12:01] Conor: I do.
[12:02] Conor: So I'll just segue, like, it's all those Emily has said, at least most of them.
[12:06] Conor: I really love, I don't know if this is left of centre, You Learn, You've Got a Friend.
[12:14] Emilee: It's definitely in the top 10 for me.
[12:16] Conor: Yeah.
[12:17] Conor: Like, ah, like, oh, okay.
[12:24] Conor: Like, I love, ah, okay.
[12:27] Conor: And then Santana walks in and they're, oh, it's very good.
[12:32] Emilee: We're not talking about her.
[12:33] Conor: No, she's really iconic.
[12:35] Conor: She died last round.
[12:36] Emilee: She died.
[12:39] Conor: Rip.
[12:41] Conor: And then, of course.
[12:42] Conor: You Learn was taken out by, oh, this is really interesting.
[12:45] Conor: Toucha, toucha, touch me.
[12:48] Emilee: Don't really remember that.
[12:48] Conor: I remember being upset about that one.
[12:50] Conor: Was that an episode with you and Claudia and?
[12:54] Emilee: No, that was Alison Alamode.
[12:58] Conor: Okay.
[12:59] Conor: Um, but, okay.
[13:02] Conor: Another one I really love, I have to say, is, of course, The Legendary.
[13:10] Conor: Um, young girl, don't stand so close to me.
[13:13] Emilee: This is a joke.
[13:14] Conor: You're being, you're being a little cheeky.
[13:17] Conor: Got you guys.
[13:18] Conor: I got you.
[13:19] Conor: Y'all should have seen your face.
[13:21] Emilee: You should have seen the look on your face.
[13:26] Conor: Um, it means I'm very young and you want to stand closer.
[13:32] Conor: Um, I feel like my top four.
[13:34] Conor: Okay.
[13:34] Conor: I, I feel like this is half.
[13:36] Conor: Like, I don't want to be basic.
[13:39] Conor: Half.
[13:40] Conor: I am being basic.
[13:41] Conor: So, um, I think.
[13:44] Conor: Okay.
[13:45] Conor: Can we guess?
[13:46] Emilee: Yeah.
[13:46] Conor: What do you think is in here?
[13:48] Emilee: How did my pocket feel the earth moves?
[13:50] Conor: No, actually, no.
[13:52] Conor: What?
[13:53] Conor: I was like thinking that I know right now in this moment, I think.
[13:57] Conor: But I have a, I have another mashup from that episode that is actually kind of just like scratching an itch.
[14:02] Conor: Oh, will you love me tomorrow?
[14:05] Emilee: Will you love me tomorrow?
[14:06] Conor: I forget those are mashups.
[14:08] Conor: Like, it's so funny because when I think mashups.
[14:10] Emilee: You've already won me over.
[14:12] Conor: I think it's so early.
[14:14] Emilee: Oh my God.
[14:15] Emilee: My boyfriend sent me a video last night.
[14:19] Emilee: I'm a massive Alanis fan and she was performing in London.
[14:23] Emilee: He was like, listen, and it was just a clip of him recording at his bedroom window.
[14:28] Emilee: And you could hear her singing in the background last night.
[14:30] Emilee: And I was like crying.
[14:32] Emilee: I was like, I wish.

[28:39] Conor Burke: So, I think the Hall and Oates mashup was definitely intended to be a little cringe. It’s like they leaned into that awkwardness, which is part of the charm of Glee.
[28:53] Emilee Carroll: I agree! It’s almost like they were trying to make it fun and silly, and it worked for me. I mean, who doesn’t love a good cringe moment?
[29:07] Conor Burke: Exactly! And it’s those moments that make the show memorable.
[29:07] Conor Burke: Let's pick a joke and do it.
[29:08] Emilee Carroll: It never ends.
[29:09] Conor Burke: Do you have any other thoughts, Conor?
[29:12] Emilee Carroll: I just want to say...
[29:14] Conor Burke: Yeah.
[29:16] Emilee Carroll: Baby One More Time versus Disco Inferno, I would have voted for Disco Inferno, but again, just want to say, rest in peace to Baby One More Time.
[29:23] Conor Burke: Why?
[29:24] Emilee Carroll: I know that people are probably correct, but I just, I don't get why it's considered so terrible.
[29:30] Conor Burke: I just can't, I literally cannot hear it. I think it's a great vocal. I think it's fun. It's camp.
[29:36] Emilee Carroll: It's tonally, it's a bit ridiculous. Like, it's great. Leigh is in her bag.
[29:42] Conor Burke: Rest in peace to her.
[29:43] Emilee Carroll: I have a question for you, Conor, for this.
[29:45] Conor Burke: Yes.
[29:47] Emilee Carroll: Do you know a lot about the original Baby One More Time? Like, have you watched it a lot? Are you familiar?
[29:53] Conor Burke: I mean, like, I've seen the music video many, many times, but like, why?
[30:02] Emilee Carroll: Okay, I'm just curious, because Britney, I grew up, like, when I, back in my day, like, I, that was by Britney Spears, like, growing. I was, like, a middle school, like, eighth grade, ninth grade when that song came out. And for me, I just, I cringe, it's so cringey to me because she's trying so hard to mimic Britney Spears. And for me, it just doesn't hit.
[30:32] Conor Burke: I think that's the point.
[30:33] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, maybe it's just. Do you know what I mean? That's where I fall. Like, I agree with you, but I think that's the point. But then it's also, if you listen to the vocal and not watch the MP4, it is brilliantly sung. Now, I'm not saying that, like, you know, pop princesses don't have to be great vocalists. Like, let's be real, Britney Spears is not, it's about more than just the vocal. But I just love the rendition of the vocal. Like, I think the vocal is amazing. But I understand what you're saying. I just, I think that that's kind of the point that it's supposed to be. Like, I think that that was purposefully done.
[31:10] Emilee Carroll: Oh, and I think so, too. I just, for some reason, for me, it doesn't, I think of, I guess, in my brain, I'm thinking of it compared to, have you ever seen Iggy Azalea's Fancy, the music video?
[31:24] Conor Burke: I mean, they're clueless.
[31:31] Emilee Carroll: And for me, that hits for some reason, but this doesn't. And I don't understand, like, I know that they are, I don't know what it is. With Fancy, what I really love about that song is the beat. I love the dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. I just think that, like, that's perfect to me. And I think that maybe, I don't know, I can't speak for you, but like, that's what really brings it ahead if you're comparing these two songs.
[31:56] Conor Burke: Sure, sure. I agree. And you know what, to be fair, Conor, because I dislike the MP4 so much, I haven't really listened to the MP3 without. So maybe that's my homework that I need to do to give it another chance.
[32:09] Emilee Carroll: I think as well, like, the show also leans into Rachel as a character. I'm not talking about Leah here, but like, Rachel as a character, not necessarily being, like, because you watch me against the music or I'm a slave for you, and you don't think any of these things, you think this is fucking iconic. And later in season four, of course, Britney 2.0, they kind of, like, make jibes at the fact that Rachel is not a, is not Britney coded with Kate Hudson's character getting her to do. Do you know what I mean? So I think the show also knows it.
[32:41] Conor Burke: Yeah, I agree.
[32:43] Emilee Carroll: Which is why they didn't give her another solo at the end of the episode.
[32:47] Conor Burke: And thank God they didn't, because we did not need another Britney solo from Rachel Berry.
[32:54] Emilee Carroll: Yes. And so we got, every time, Marley at the end of the episode, which I think is, like, kind of only exceptions, little sister.
[33:03] Conor Burke: Little sister, and yes, absolutely, Marley ate that up.
[33:08] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, every time. Oh my god, I love it so much. But I think, you know what, I really love that you guys are talking about this, but at the same time, I'm like, I am so over the Baby One More Time discourse. I actually, like, want it to, like, there's something, I just, like, I almost feel like I'm being punked right now, that, like, we are continuing to have conversations around this song.
[33:29] Conor Burke: But it's just so, the only reason I talk about it, because I just refuse to believe that I'm, like, the only one that likes it.
[33:36] Emilee Carroll: You're, you know that you're not. Like, there are...
[33:38] Conor Burke: Oh my gosh, who else likes it?
[33:42] Emilee Carroll: Matt really likes it. He said in the last episode, I think that, like, I don't want to speak for Alison Alamud, but I think that she might like it.
[33:50] Conor Burke: I think there are people out there that...
[33:52] Emilee Carroll: I think she likes it, but to a point, but she's, like, cursed with it.
[33:57] Conor Burke: Please edit that out. I do not slander my name like this.
[34:00] Emilee Carroll: No, but when you're talking about Baby One More Time, I'm like, what comes up for me is, I won't give up the Rolo.
[34:08] Conor Burke: And I'm like, if you want to talk about a Rolo that nobody's talking about, let's talk about I Won't Give Up.
[34:13] Emilee Carroll: I love that Rolo.
[34:14] Conor Burke: I will, let's do it right now. I love I Won't Give Up.
[34:18] Emilee Carroll: Me too.
[34:19] Conor Burke: I think it's so sweet.
[34:21] Emilee Carroll: I, I, you know why I love I Won't Give Up? She is obsessed with getting into that school.
[34:24] Conor Burke: Yes.
[34:24] Emilee Carroll: She was obsessed with getting into that school. She's a sociopath. I love her.
[34:28] Conor Burke: I also love, like, I love, I've said it before on the podcast, hearing Leigh-Anne, her lower register.
[34:34] Emilee Carroll: Oh.
[34:38] Conor Burke: When I look into you.
[34:39] Emilee Carroll: Oh.
[34:41] Conor Burke: And I think, you know why? We don't hear that enough.
[34:43] Emilee Carroll: Every time is the only exception, only exceptions. Little Sister, I Won't Give Up is the older sister.
[34:48] Conor Burke: I like that.
[34:50] Emilee Carroll: I agree.
[34:51] Conor Burke: Okay. We're finally.
[34:53] Emilee Carroll: Okay. Get on board with that.
[34:54] Conor Burke: Right, right.
[34:54] Emilee Carroll: They needed more Jason Mraz on the show.
[34:57] Conor Burke: It all comes back to Baby One More Time.
[35:01] Emilee Carroll: I just want to say, um, I would have voted for, just whilst we're on it, I would have voted for The Only Exception.
[35:09] Conor Burke: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.
[35:12] Emilee Carroll: I just would have voted for The Only Exception.
[35:13] Conor Burke: Over Somewhere Only We Know.
[35:14] Emilee Carroll: I just, over somewhere only we.
[35:17] Conor Burke: I can't get on board with that.
[35:18] Emilee Carroll: No, I, do you know what it is for me?
[35:22] Conor Burke: And this is just, I know I'm weird for this.
[35:24] Emilee Carroll: I just, again, I just don't like that song.
[35:26] Conor Burke: I don't know what it is about me.
[35:28] Emilee Carroll: I just, I don't like the song.
[35:29] Conor Burke: I never have liked the song.
[35:30] Emilee Carroll: I don't like the song.
[35:31] Conor Burke: Bye. Don't care about the song.
[35:33] Emilee Carroll: Bye, bye, bye, bye.
[35:33] Conor Burke: And that's again, another opinion that we share.
[35:36] Emilee Carroll: I feel like I'm kind of getting it more over time.
[35:41] Conor Burke: But like, I, it's never been like, you know what I really want to listen to right now is Somewhere Only We Know.
[35:46] Emilee Carroll: Oh my God, I used to listen to that on repeat, but it came out when I was in college.
[35:50] Conor Burke: So I was a very emotional person.
[35:52] Emilee Carroll: I do like the Lily Allen one.
[35:55] Conor Burke: Oh yeah.
[35:55] Emilee Carroll: That was on the John Lewis advert in the UK.
[35:57] Conor Burke: That's so beautiful.
[35:59] Emilee Carroll: Yeah.
[36:00] Conor Burke: But, I don't know.
[36:01] Emilee Carroll: I just can't.
[36:03] Conor Burke: And The Only Exception.
[36:05] Emilee Carroll: I came into this, like, at the start of this podcast, I liked The Only Exception.
[36:09] Conor Burke: I would listen to The Only Exception.
[36:11] Emilee Carroll: But it was actually Angie that made me really appreciate The Only Exception more.
[36:15] Conor Burke: Like, oh, it is so, God, we're not going to talk about it.
[36:19] Emilee Carroll: We've talked about it to death.
[36:20] Conor Burke: I love The Only Exception.
[36:22] Emilee Carroll: And I'm sorry for her.
[36:25] Conor Burke: But like, tough decisions need to be made.
[36:27] Emilee Carroll: Oh, I think that, like, I've cut my losses with that one.
[36:30] Conor Burke: Like, I'm actually, like, fine with it.
[36:31] Emilee Carroll: It's like, I understand that, like, I did as much as I could.
[36:35] Conor Burke: I'm really happy that it made it as far as it did.
[36:38] Emilee Carroll: But also, like, I just, like, need to understand this is a group activity.
[36:43] Conor Burke: And I can't be holding too close, you know?
[36:47] Emilee Carroll: I don't understand those things.
[36:52] Conor Burke: Exactly.
[36:52] Emilee Carroll: Like, I had to say goodbye to Glitter in the Air a long time ago, and I've learned to live with it.
[36:56] Conor Burke: Wait, we've definitely talked about this before, but what actually took Glitter in the Air out?
[37:01] Emilee Carroll: Glitter in the Air, that was Come What May.
[37:08] Conor Burke: The way I still would have voted for that.
[37:10] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, I would have too.
[37:12] Conor Burke: Like, oh my God, again, Come What May.
[37:15] Emilee Carroll: I just don't like the song, it's so boring.
[37:18] Conor Burke: I like the original.
[37:21] Emilee Carroll: I mean, they did it really good justice with the set and the design.
[37:28] Conor Burke: Beautiful, right?
[37:29] Emilee Carroll: Was this round one as well?
[37:31] Conor Burke: Round one.
[37:31] Emilee Carroll: What's that? Round one, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[37:34] Conor Burke: I just don't get the Glitter in the Air hatred again.
[37:36] Emilee Carroll: I never will.
[37:37] Conor Burke: I do really also love Glitter in the Air, so I got your back on that one.
[37:41] Emilee Carroll: I really do.
[37:42] Conor Burke: I think people think, thank you, Emily, I think people think it's just a bad song.
[37:45] Emilee Carroll: Is that the impression I'm getting?
[37:47] Conor Burke: I don't know, I like it.
[37:48] Emilee Carroll: I mean, it was right in the show itself.
[37:50] Conor Burke: It was weird because she's like singing to Kristen Schaal, which the whole thing was just weird in that.
[37:56] Emilee Carroll: I just really want you to understand my essence.
[37:59] Conor Burke: Right.
[38:00] Emilee Carroll: And see, I'm like.
[38:01] Conor Burke: Calling me sugar.
[38:05] Emilee Carroll: I do.
[38:05] Conor Burke: It's a beautiful MP3.
[38:07] Emilee Carroll: I mean, it is.
[38:08] Conor Burke: It's wonderful for her voice and I think it's a beautiful song, so I don't get the hate.
[38:14] Emilee Carroll: It's so funny imagining Leah sitting there at a Pink concert looking up.
[38:19] Conor Burke: Looking up.
[38:20] Emilee Carroll: At Pink flying through the air.
[38:22] Conor Burke: Everybody in that episode voted for Come What May over Glitter in the Air and the Instagram 75% for Come What May.
[38:31] Emilee Carroll: Cal's surprise.
[38:32] Conor Burke: I'm really out here gunning for Rolos, aren't I?
[38:36] Emilee Carroll: Like Rolos are seriously have been kind of disrespected in many regards and that's OK.
[38:42] Conor Burke: You know what I'm really excited to see again is the ultimate vote back winner.
[38:46] Emilee Carroll: It's all coming back to me now.
[38:48] Conor Burke: I'm like, I actually would. I think this is like kind of like a good crew to watch it with.
[38:53] Emilee Carroll: That's what I'm manifesting for tonight to see that performance.
[38:59] Conor Burke: I really just like I'm glad to have it back and I want it to make it out of this round.
[39:04] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, I'm manifesting just two hard competitions personally.
[39:08] Conor Burke: I am manifesting the one song that I feel does not deserve to be in round four.
[39:14] Emilee Carroll: And there are other ones that are like, yeah, kind of skating the edge.
[39:18] Conor Burke: But Ice Ice Baby is the one.
[39:20] Emilee Carroll: Hell, even Christmas wrapping.
[39:22] Conor Burke: You know, I know people like it.
[39:23] Emilee Carroll: I don't like it, but I know a lot of people do.
[39:25] Conor Burke: But Ice Ice Baby, what the fuck are you doing here?
[39:27] Emilee Carroll: Let's get you up.
[39:28] Conor Burke: Ice Ice Baby's fine.
[39:29] Emilee Carroll: I'm OK with it.
[39:30] Conor Burke: Wait, is Christmas wrapping still here?
[39:32] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, it is.
[39:33] Conor Burke: It's the only Christmas song left.
[39:35] Emilee Carroll: I really hope we got Christmas wrapping there with our family.
[39:38] Conor Burke: Do you have anything final to say before I pull the first song?
[39:43] Emilee Carroll: I love you both.
[39:45] Conor Burke: I really hope that what's about to happen.
[39:48] Emilee Carroll: We're in this together, OK?
[39:51] Conor Burke: Um, oh, wow.
[39:53] Emilee Carroll: I don't know why I'm like, I continue to be surprised that all these songs are good.
[39:59] Conor Burke: Andrew's got a big...
[40:00] Emilee Carroll: There's so many good songs.
[40:02] Conor Burke: Here it is.
[40:03] Emilee Carroll: And you're going to know what it is.
[40:04] Conor Burke: It's a classic.
[40:06] Emilee Carroll: The song here is Teenage Dream.
[40:11] Conor Burke: Wow.
[40:15] Emilee Carroll: Where were you?
[40:16] Conor Burke: Did I vote this out before?
[40:18] Emilee Carroll: No, you've never had this.
[40:20] Conor Burke: No, I had the season four version.
[40:24] Emilee Carroll: Season four version?
[40:25] Conor Burke: It's not against Trident Mates.
[40:27] Emilee Carroll: No, that was like Raise Your Glass.
[40:29] Conor Burke: Raise Your Glass.
[40:30] Emilee Carroll: Oh, it's Raise Your Glass.
[40:31] Conor Burke: Excuse me.
[40:32] Emilee Carroll: Um, I think Patrick has been here.
[40:35] Conor Burke: Like the past two times with this song.
[40:39] Emilee Carroll: So.
[40:40] Conor Burke: And now his reign ends forever.
[40:43] Emilee Carroll: And I think that he voted for it both times.
[40:46] Conor Burke: Surprisingly.
[40:47] Emilee Carroll: Yeah.
[40:47] Conor Burke: Um, wait, where were you, Connor?
[40:50] Emilee Carroll: You said everybody remembers where they were.
[40:52] Conor Burke: Where were you?
[40:54] Emilee Carroll: I was at home watching Glee.
[40:57] Conor Burke: Like Glee?
[40:57] Emilee Carroll: Like the story?
[40:59] Conor Burke: There you have it.
[41:00] Emilee Carroll: And there we go.
[41:01] Conor Burke: Ever heard of that show?
[41:06] Emilee Carroll: No, but seriously, I was so.
[41:09] Conor Burke: I don't know about you guys, but I'm just gonna say I was immediately hooked there.
[41:12] Emilee Carroll: And I was so like smitten from the get-go.
[41:14] Conor Burke: And Blaine, all the girls kind of know, you know, he's not for me.
[41:19] Emilee Carroll: It's, I approach Blaine the way that Sue approaches Blaine.
[41:24] Conor Burke: Like, I just don't really get you.
[41:26] Emilee Carroll: I've never really got your thing.
[41:27] Conor Burke: I don't really get what your thing is.
[41:28] Emilee Carroll: Like, that's been me.
[41:30] Conor Burke: Yeah.
[41:30] Emilee Carroll: And, but this was, like, not me getting, like, low-key emotional watching that.
[41:36] Conor Burke: Like, was it just, I don't know, like, I don't want to get too deep.
[41:40] Emilee Carroll: Was the world just largely more optimistic at that point?
[41:42] Conor Burke: Or was it because we were younger?
[41:44] Emilee Carroll: Like, it just felt so full of, like, possibility.
[41:48] Conor Burke: Like, 2011 was such a magical era, wasn't it?
[41:52] Emilee Carroll: Do you know what I mean?
[41:53] Conor Burke: Yeah, yeah.
[41:54] Emilee Carroll: There was, there was, like, I was literally, like, listening to an interview with 2000, early 2010 legend, Will.i.am today.
[42:05] Conor Burke: Bring the action.
[42:06] Emilee Carroll: Bring the action.
[42:07] Conor Burke: And he was, like, talking about, like, I've got a feeling and the creation of that song.
[42:12] Emilee Carroll: And I was just like, yeah, there was something in the sauce with, like, he had, and he was, like, talking about, like, how he had, like, five of the top 10.
[42:21] Conor Burke: Like, there was, like, I'm a B, Meet Me Halfway.
[42:25] Emilee Carroll: Like, all of those, like, that album, that Black Eyed Peas album, like, there was something so, like, optimistic about, like, the sound.
[42:30] Conor Burke: And Teenage Dream, of course, falls into that camp as well.
[42:38] Emilee Carroll: There is something so optimistic.
[42:40] Conor Burke: And I think, like, I think we as a society have really, like, this is going to sound, I think we've really, it's not, it's not cool.
[42:51] Emilee Carroll: And it's not hip to be in any way optimistic or hopeful or peppy or poppy.
[42:58] Conor Burke: It's actually, like, just in regards to teen television shows, like, you know, Glee was preppy and poppy and fun and bright and optimistic and hopeful.
[43:08] Emilee Carroll: Now, like, the most popular TV show, teen television show, arguably, is Euphoria about a heroin addict, which is totally fine.
[43:17] Conor Burke: There's room for everything.
[43:19] Emilee Carroll: But it's just, like, where it's so, like, you, everyone and everything has to be miserable today, especially within pop culture.
[43:26] Conor Burke: It's like, it has to be, quote, unquote, deep.
[43:31] Emilee Carroll: It can't be surface level.
[43:33] Conor Burke: It can't.
[43:33] Emilee Carroll: And I'm like, get a grip.
[43:35] Conor Burke: Like, joyous, like, art does not necessarily mean it's not intellectually stimulating.
[43:41] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, like it can be intellectually stimulating and really fun. And also just because something is really somber and quote-unquote serious does not mean it's like, you know, intellectually more engaging to engage with. Do you know what I'm trying to say?
[43:51] Conor Burke: No, that's a really good point because I'm thinking about like if I, because like just thinking about like these kind of like special interests that I have like with like different TV shows and franchises and whatever that it's like if I didn't have Glee and instead had a show like Euphoria during my high school years to kind of like cling on to, how would that shape the rest of my life of like kind of like, like would that inherently make me a more pessimistic person?
[44:27] Emilee Carroll: Seriously, you know what I'm saying?
[44:29] Conor Burke: Yeah, 100% like not to get like all college dissertation on it, but like sometimes I do think what would my queerness, how would I experience my queerness?
[44:41] Emilee Carroll: Oh, yeah, if it weren't for Glee.
[44:42] Conor Burke: Yeah, seriously, I know that might sound ridiculous. I've been a teenager in the 2010s like it changed my life.
[44:51] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, yeah when it comes to that, you know, the in America at that time. We were also in the Obama administration, which is a completely different world than the world we are in now and have been in since 2016.
[45:07] Conor Burke: I mean just in general that 2008 to 2016 was, like you said, very optimistic, very hopeful, very, you know, progressive in ways that you know that might be why you know shows like Euphoria are now more popular, you know, it's a different world.
[45:27] Emilee Carroll: Everything's been amazing and raw and it's just like I love all that like there's so many great, yes, like all nothing against anyone who made Euphoria or anything like that, but it's just like everything has to be so like, like bring back joy. How about that? Bring back fun like can we have a love?
[45:47] Conor Burke: Do you know what I'm trying to say? Like it's really not that deep and it's really interesting what my question to you guys, I made one of my notes here, if Glee, if this episode aired last week and Kurt walked into Dalton for the first time and saw Blaine, what song is Blaine? What song?
[46:04] Emilee Carroll: That's such a fun question. I think like "Teenage Dream."
[46:06] Conor Burke: Can I go on a quick tangent? And there's all of you asking that question, I just think that "Teenage Dream" works on so many different levels as a song selection and this introduction of this character just like works. There is nothing about this performance that does not work for me.
[46:23] Emilee Carroll: Like I, that doesn't mean like I'm streaming and always like I'm just like this is it just everything is working that this song selection just like the fact that it's like this song Katy Perry singing about like a guy that now a guy is singing it and like he's like clearly set up as like the love interest for this gay character that it's like this, what's the word I'm looking for?
[46:47] Conor Burke: Like the fact that like it's like that now it's this is the context where we're talking about gay love that it's like specifically about a teenage dream that like Kurt is like having that like this is what he's dreaming of.
[47:03] Emilee Carroll: Yes, and it's also a different arrangement too that it's like it's not like a carbon copy of what we have been forced to listen to in summer of 2010 every single time that we turn on the radio that it was like this. It's better. It's better.
[47:19] Conor Burke: Isn't this one of the ones that's better?
[47:21] Emilee Carroll: Original. Yeah.
[47:24] Conor Burke: And I think that entire album, Katy Perry, like is one of the best pop albums like of all time when you look at the track list like it's so incredible.
[47:34] Emilee Carroll: This one is a really good album. I'll give her that, but yeah, no, I just think that this is like really working across the board to answer your question about like what they would be singing now, like the song that's coming to mind is like, because this was like very much like song of the summer if I remember correctly that were like "California Gurls."
[47:51] Conor Burke: Like would it be like "Midnight Sun"?
[47:55] Emilee Carroll: Zara Larson. Yeah, I could see that.
[47:58] Conor Burke: But I like I don't think that that works.
[48:00] Emilee Carroll: I really that as well with no it doesn't but I could see that and I think what you said, they're like seriously the fact that it was a boy like groundbreaking.
[48:10] Conor Burke: We were so deep into this that we sometimes don't really realize or remember or place where we were at that point in our lives like literally two episodes preceding this.
[48:22] Emilee Carroll: It's kind of something that people kind of forget about because of the way it's presented in the episode.
[48:26] Conor Burke: Do you ask one of the best episodes of the entire series?
[48:30] Emilee Carroll: Like the loneliness and the heartbreak that Kurt is obviously going through when it gets to the point that he's doing a duet by himself and because that episode is so jam-packed, people kind of brush off and they kind of forget about it, but he was completely and totally isolated because he was a gay teenager.
[48:46] Conor Burke: So to have this happen two episodes later with this objectively very handsome guy that turns out to be a love interest and becomes his boyfriend at the time watching that when we were kids essentially was like mind-blowing.
[49:05] Emilee Carroll: But like the excitement that we had engaging with this content and we forget that because it was so long ago, but like sometimes you have to kind of place yourself back there and be like, oh my god, of course, I watched this every week. Of course, I was on Tumblr. Of course, I was listening to First Listen Fridays like oh the joy and the fun of that is just gone from life, you know, not to be a negative Nelly, but it's just like oh, bring it back.
[49:35] Conor Burke: I do have some stray observations here. Um, who's your favorite Warbler?
[49:41] Emilee Carroll: We talked about, I've not talked about this.
[49:44] Emilee Carroll: I love Telly. Telly's my favorite.
[49:47] Conor Burke: Is it Telly?
[49:54] Conor Burke: I think Telly's it's so sweet.
[49:56] Emilee Carroll: He's like so handsome, first of all, so handsome.
[50:05] Conor Burke: Um, but like I just know, you know, yeah, he's so fun, like he's like he's selling like this bit because I feel like the Warblers as them like as a group, it's like they're treating everything very seriously.
[50:14] Emilee Carroll: And I think that Telly really understands the tone of like, okay, like this like this is all like the stakes are so high and all of that.
[50:26] Conor Burke: And so yeah, I love Telly. Who's yours, Andrew?
[50:33] Emilee Carroll: Telly.
[50:33] Conor Burke: Is it Telly too?
[50:37] Emilee Carroll: Oh, it's Telly too?
[50:41] Conor Burke: Yeah, it's Telly too, electric boogaloo.
[50:41] Conor Burke: I don't know. I've never really thought about it. I like the trawler guy because of this.
[50:44] Emilee Carroll: And wait, yours is also Telly?
[50:46] Emilee Carroll: What are you doing? You're kind of like doing like I made him like I'm putting my...
[50:50] Conor Burke: The robot or yeah, I thought it's kind of so put it into a term.
[50:54] Emilee Carroll: Maybe Gleeks will understand Holly Holiday does that move in "Forget You" when she does the Atari move?
[51:01] Conor Burke: We are, it all comes back to Holly Holiday.
[51:05] Emilee Carroll: Now we have a picture for it.
[51:07] Conor Burke: Yeah, and there's a shot that's very funny in "Teenage Dream." You probably don't remember, it's towards the very start of it, the camera like zooms out.
[51:16] Emilee Carroll: Darren, he was like really...
[51:21] Conor Burke: Listen, I'm not a stickler for height. I don't care about this relation to this song before.
[51:29] Emilee Carroll: Yes.
[51:29] Conor Burke: But I know that like I do, I know that there's a lot of men who are very self-conscious about their height. We see this on dating profiles all the time. Okay, like six one, baby, you're five foot nine.
[51:43] Emilee Carroll: Okay.
[51:43] Conor Burke: Now I realize that you know, Andrew and I for example are taller guys, so we probably don't ever think about this.
[51:48] Emilee Carroll: Right.
[51:50] Conor Burke: But I just know that when Darren looked back in this performance, he was fuming at this shot because he was like, oh my god, I'm gonna get it.
[51:55] Emilee Carroll: Fuming at this shot because he looks so tiny.
[52:04] Conor Burke: Tiny boy beside that one guy. I thought do I believe is the one that does the Holly Holiday move?
[52:14] Emilee Carroll: Yeah.
[52:14] Conor Burke: Um, I think that like I've talked about this before, it almost feels like because they easily could have gotten, from what I would assume, they could have easily have gotten more similarly heighted individuals to be standing behind Blaine, but instead they chose all these guys that are much taller that like they, it really, it's this performance specifically that makes Blaine look small.
[52:42] Emilee Carroll: And I think that I would assume it's a purposeful move to like, it's critical for...
[52:48] Conor Burke: Taller than Darren Chris. Let's see. How tall is Chris Colfer?
[52:54] Emilee Carroll: How are you? Are you guessing?
[52:54] Conor Burke: I'm just gonna say he's like five... I'm gonna say...
[52:58] Emilee Carroll: He's taller because why is there always a thing made of Darren Chris's height?
[53:03] Conor Burke: Chris Colfer is five foot nine and Darren Chris is five foot seven.
[53:09] Emilee Carroll: Oh.
[53:17] Conor Burke: Do you know what, like as well, I can I just say one thing about me is that I love camp extras.
[53:23] Emilee Carroll: Like I really love camp extras and you know, I don't think...
[53:25] Conor Burke: How do I say this?
[53:32] Emilee Carroll: There's many extras who get into extra work because the ultimate goal is that they want to be on sets and they want to become an actor.
[53:38] Conor Burke: And I think some of them find out very quickly that maybe acting is not their skills.
[53:46] Emilee Carroll: Like I don't mean, but maybe it's not.
[53:52] Conor Burke: And I'm not necessarily, this is the case saying this is the case for "Teenage Dream" Gleekos version by Gleekos, but I do have to give a shout-out to some of the extras.
[54:01] Emilee Carroll: There are some extras in this performance, go back and watch the tape, that are so committed to this.
[54:07] Conor Burke: I think Ryan Murphy was on set.
[54:11] Emilee Carroll: Oh, yeah.
[54:11] Conor Burke: I think they thought that Ryan Murphy was scouting like the fist bump. There was one guy who's like, yeah, I brought like something JB impersonator, okay?
[54:21] Emilee Carroll: Also, not to be like this song's lawyer or anything and to be like defending every single thing that this song does, I don't know why I'm assuming that role with this song specifically, but like I think the way that this entire performance is framed is that like Kurt meets Blaine, Blaine's like you should come watch us perform like the Glee Club at this school is really cool, we're like rock stars and they kind of like forget about this as the episodes go on.
[54:50] Conor Burke: I think it's like after this episode we never like see like the rest of the student body that isn't part of the actual Warbler group like they're showing up for this performance because they're like, hey like this is fun.
[55:03] Emilee Carroll: And I believe that. I think that's like a really fun kind of is different than New Directions, you know what I mean?
[55:08] Conor Burke: Of course, I do love it.
[55:13] Emilee Carroll: There's also another thing, this is so particular, but I don't know if anyone ever noticed it. So there's a shot where it's like where they're all like "Teenage Dream" tonight and then it goes...
[55:19] Conor Burke: Guy over Darren's shoulder.
[55:26] Emilee Carroll: It's so egregiously big.
[55:29] Conor Burke: It's a like, it's like you among us.
[55:37] Emilee Carroll: To swallow Darren Chris's head.
[55:42] Conor Burke: Way to work on your lip-syncing.
[55:42] Emilee Carroll: Yes.
[55:45] Conor Burke: It's in between Telly and...
[55:49] Emilee Carroll: Darren, thank you.
[55:54] Conor Burke: It's right here.
[55:56] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, oh my god, like come on, that is big.
[56:01] Conor Burke: Oh my god.
[56:07] Emilee Carroll: There is some really egregious lip-syncing just in...
[56:10] Conor Burke: There's a difference between like really egregious lip-syncing and like not like that. You wouldn't, how do people not notice that?
[56:23] Emilee Carroll: Right.
[56:23] Conor Burke: Sorry, I hope that doesn't sound mean, but like it's crazy.
[56:29] Emilee Carroll: How do you not notice?
[56:32] Conor Burke: That's what you know, what do you mean though?
[56:40] Emilee Carroll: Yes, like if you're belting, you're like you're not gonna be like...
[56:42] Conor Burke: It's just so strange.
[56:46] Emilee Carroll: Do a little bit there. You need to get another job. He needs to change career.
[56:52] Conor Burke: Yeah, I wasn't it I've never noticed that before. Thank you for opening my eyes that he opens his mouth like that.
[56:55] Emilee Carroll: That concludes my notes.
[56:55] Conor Burke: Emily, final notes.
[57:01] Emilee Carroll: Um, I am NOT usually a huge Warblers fan. I, you know, I don't really reach for a lot of their songs, but like we've stated over and over, this is iconic.
[57:10] Conor Burke: Everyone remembers where they were.
[57:15] Emilee Carroll: This was the moment of, you know, one of the moments of season two, it will say.
[57:21] Conor Burke: Yeah, so very iconic, very good.
[57:24] Emilee Carroll: You're a great introduction to, you know, this group that we obviously see growth and change throughout the seasons, but yeah, I really enjoyed this one, although I'm not, like I said, famously a huge Warbler or Blaine fan. I mean here and there, but yeah, I really like it.
[57:43] Conor Burke: Yeah, see this is the reason I love this podcast because the discourse on this song started off as like really serious conversations about like sociological impact, where we were, where we are, and we finished it by talking about that guy's mouth, which is so lovely, you know?
[58:02] Emilee Carroll: I mean like you kind of got a little bit of everything.
[58:11] Conor Burke: His mouth is so lovely.
[58:14] Emilee Carroll: Lately I've been like with these songs that we it's the first song pulled in the competition. I'm thinking like and we talk like really highly about it it's like is that the send-off? Is that the final time that we talk about it? Like um I do feel that this is going to be a hard competition whatever it is. I think it could be a hard competition I will say I do not stream "Teenage Dream" but I really enjoyed watching that.
[58:34] Conor Burke: Teenage Stream?
[58:37] Emilee Carroll: Teenage Stream. Teenage Stream I think you'll find. Teenage Nightmare.
[58:48] Conor Burke: Oh this is a really fun competition that I think could go either way it's not like a gimme I don't think. Okay um this was a song that was voted back in last round.
[59:03] Emilee Carroll: Um okay is this "Any Way You Want It"?
[59:05] Conor Burke: It is "Any Way You Want It." Love and Touch the Squeezin!
[59:13] Emilee Carroll: Neither of you have seen this before Glacket-wise?
[59:15] Conor Burke: No.
[59:16] Emilee Carroll: No. Okay um who wants to start discourse?
[59:22] Conor Burke: I can start on this one.
[59:23] Emilee Carroll: Okay um so I really enjoyed this just this competition in general um it has this is one of my favorite Finn and Rachel scenes is the one where he tells her that he loves her for the first time. It's just like so endearing and then you know they sing "Faithfully" which is uh incredible but that's neither here nor there but like this just it's so it feels just so much like the heart of what this club formed into me and you know before it gets you know too crazy in the later seasons or anything like that it is just like the antithesis of what this group is um I wanted also just to say on a surface level thing that I just love their hair in this I think they all look really good with these bouffants and like they're just killing that um and I just you just see so much joy you know when they're doing they're kind of like their free-form rock out with the arms Jenna and that's like my favorite part every time it just gives me chills I just love this number it brings me so much like color say it brings me so much joy it just really is heartwarming and I kind of forget about it I mean as much as I love it and I love this competition I get so blinded by "Faithfully" normally that I you know kind of forget about this one and it is just it's really really really fun and it's just the heart of what this whole thing is.
[1:01:03] Conor Burke: Yeah yeah I also like forget about it too for some reason I think that I like literally have said before um one of the episodes was called two iconic loaves of bread and that was in relation to "Faithfully" being an iconic loaf of bread and then the other iconic loaf of bread is "Don't Stop Believin'" regionals version and this is kind of like the little meat and cheese between.
[1:01:24] Emilee Carroll: Yeah it's like you kind of like forget but when that bread's too good when that bread is too good yes um Conor what do you think?
[1:01:42] Conor Burke: Yeah like largely really resonate with what Emilee was saying I on a surface level the hair the hair is hair it's hair is herring it was so great to see um kings and queens as well Olivia Newton-John, Rod Roddy, and Josh Groban um which I just want to put that out there um it's really interesting because I do agree that I kind of do forget about this song sometimes although I do love it and I would more often listen to this than to "Teenage Dream" season two I'm not jumping the gun don't worry yeah but it's still a really tough competition for me at this moment and I don't know if you guys agree with that you don't have to kind of you don't have to kind of talk more at the moment but do you know what I mean?
[1:02:31] Emilee Carroll: Yes I will say no because I don't want to jump over the discourse I completely understand what you're saying and I share the exact sentiment that it's like stream this more than "Teenage Dream" but that doesn't mean yes anything yes and that's why round four is getting really juicy because that's happened a few times now yeah and I'm like okay so there's all that um I do think that see you were talking about two iconic loaves of bread just as a side note I'm not a massive "Don't Stop Believin'" regionals version fan just gonna put it out there.
[1:03:09] Conor Burke: Your number one would be pilot version?
[1:03:10] Emilee Carroll: Yeah I'm just like I've heard it once.
[1:03:16] Conor Burke: Yeah I've heard it once it's like you don't like that you don't like the Naya um smell the one and shape of you just like that that exactly like just like that um it's cool do you know what I mean?
[1:03:35] Emilee Carroll: For me as well probably favorite competition outfit it's this or national season three I'm forgetting one.
[1:03:43] Conor Burke: I'm gonna say no.
[1:03:50] Emilee Carroll: Oh well you can yeah I'm gonna say that you aren't forgetting one well I mean like you could do like a season one sectionals if you like the red ribbon.
[1:04:03] Conor Burke: I do some I like the kind of purity like the virgin like quality.
[1:04:05] Emilee Carroll: The season one sectionals I completely understand what you mean.
[1:04:12] Conor Burke: Yeah the virgin like quality yes um I do like the virgin like quality of that but yeah I don't know am I would you agree with that sentiment Emilee that season one regionals season three nationals are probably the strongest?
[1:04:24] Emilee Carroll: I for me season three nationals is top tier I mean 100%.
[1:04:32] Conor Burke: Are you talking specifically about the dress or the the dresses or the setlist?
[1:04:37] Emilee Carroll: The dresses.
[1:04:38] Conor Burke: Oh the dresses great gowns beautiful beautiful yeah beautiful beautiful gowns yes.
[1:04:43] Emilee Carroll: No but I I mean I really do like the national setlist too I mean I really I enjoy all of it as well so um yeah I think I think that one for me is top tier in both I'm gonna say honorable mention the dresses that Quinn and Tina are wearing as the sole women in the glee club for season three sectionals I think that this little like black and white like suit dress yes that I'm like it's oh my god yes.
[1:05:11] Conor Burke: Yeah for the Michaels yes yes this is a song about control my control control of what I say control of what I do I and I also have to say sorry this is so random I love musical performances when they have like 16 beats of freelance dancing it's always so iconic like Genelec like I love it yeah like the girls get the chance to let their hair down like it's just fun and before that the moment that I always really love is the um Rachel leading the rest of the girls like kind of like charging to the front of the stage yeah it won't be long yeah yeah I love that really it won't be long it won't be.
[1:06:05] Emilee Carroll: Yeah absolutely it won't be this is another example of it's also it's a great mash-up yeah in the sense that in the sense that I didn't know either of those songs before I watched it.
[1:06:13] Conor Burke: When I knew "Any Way You Want It" come on.
[1:06:19] Emilee Carroll: No I did not I did not really I really did not maybe I feel like Journey has got more of a cultural significance stateside as well I knew "Don't Stop Believin'" that's literally it so with those with that lived experience I was like that doesn't even sound like a mash-up which is a compliment that I totally agree I wasn't even yeah I agree as a mash-up that's yeah until you said it that I'm like oh yeah it is a mash-up right yeah it wait wait a minute we're actually looking at a mash-up here guys guys there's a mash-up we've got we've got a mash-up in the room.
[1:07:02] Emilee Carroll: Um I really don't have too much to say about this this number I just think it's sweet I think it's like honestly the epitome of cute it's just cute it's sweet and cute it's just cute and I feel like we need just it's just cute and it's sweet and I feel like we need to linger there for just a moment so I'm just going to say that again and then I'll pause afterwards so everyone at home listen to this it's just cute it's sweet okay whatever that means okay okay so is that what we are looking for at this stage in the competition which is what I'm trying to say are you looking for more than just sweet and cute?
[1:07:41] Conor Burke: I mean yeah I am do you think this song has more to offer than being sweet and cute?
[1:07:51] Emilee Carroll: I don't know I mean like we both kind of said it does kind of get forgotten in the the two loaves of the bread it's yeah you know it's it's one that while there are many many group numbers that are great that are still in how many Warbler numbers are I think that if I off the top my head "Somewhere Only We Know" and "Teenage Dream" I think that those might be the last two and "Somewhere Only We Know" is already through yeah those two feel like the best representation in my opinion of the Warblers yeah because I really also enjoy "Somewhere We Go" sometimes and I'm not the biggest Warbler fan so for me as being a very kind of removed Warbler fan I think "Teenage Dream" has more to offer than another group number that gets forgotten so that's my are you locking something in right now?
[1:09:00] Conor Burke: I can if we want to get to that point I think unless anybody has any final notes to say about this song like specifically I don't have anything else to say.
[1:09:05] Emilee Carroll: No so Emily I will lock in a vote for "Teenage Dream" season two.
[1:09:15] Conor Burke: What are you locking in?
[1:09:16] Emilee Carroll: What am I locking in? Great question I think I'm gonna have to go for "Teenage Dream" season two I just look not to be all gay teens on television iconic magazine cover yes iconic magazine moment we just sometimes we do have to place ourselves there and be like when I as I'm working my way through the Galactic and as we are trimming the fat so to speak we really do have to start asking like what did this song mean like what did it do for us and we don't have to have every song in the top 50 be like that that's not what I'm saying let's hold hold your horses right but I'm saying that it is important to acknowledge our forefathers do you know what I mean yeah and yes that's why I really really just let that settle for a moment it's really cute it's really fun which it is "Any Way You Want It" love and touch and squeezing but it's like there are many of those right and sometimes those tough decisions are going to have to be made.
[1:10:32] Emilee Carroll: Thank you thank you no I think that's really perfectly said and I think that in that same vein that it's like "Teenage Dream" the weight that comes along with it not to say that like a cute and sweet song I think the weight of a cute and sweet song can still be out a kind of like mammoth of a hundred percent like a teenage and I think it should I think there should be room for that to happen because I think I just don't think it's this one right yeah yeah that's that's what I feel too is that when you're going from 100 to 50 does this deserve to be in the top 100 "Any Way You Want It" absolutely but to be the top 50 "Teenage Dream" is like a moment of this so yeah and I'm gonna also lock in as much as I want to do a little pity vote I can't it's "Teenage Dream" it's a three for three "Teenage Dream" you were such a moment and I missed that moment that moment was that was kind of a that was a nice moment wasn't it?
[1:11:33] Conor Burke: It was a nice moment like oh my god I've dressed up as I feel like I dressed up as a Warbler for around four years in a row I actually dressed up as a Warbler for Halloween this Halloween just gone it's always because I love Halloween but you guys in America take it way more seriously than we do here and I'm always just like I just it's a good excuse to put on my suit and feel very handsome in a suit because literally every man looks handsome in a suit do you think you'll do you think you'll be a Warbler again this year?
[1:12:04] Emilee Carroll: I've been saying for the last seven years that I want to go as Miss Trunchbull from these days adaptation specifically of Matilda and it's just so I don't even know where to begin because if I want I want to do it specifically yeah yes I want to do it yeah I want to go if I the one thing about me is if I commit to it I want it to be as close yes I like I don't want cheap you know that's the one thing about me like I want it done properly and I like I want to go on a night out like a gay bar in Dublin and like talk like go around people like you know talking in like Bruce Boggs like I want to do.
[1:12:49] Andrew: Anyway, lock it in, Teenage Dream.
[1:12:53] Conor Burke: This next competition, I think the first one was hard. I think we could, it could stand to get a little harder though.
[1:13:00] Emilee Carroll: I agree. Yeah, and I think that's what we're gonna get. I totally agree. What is...
[1:13:05] Andrew: Conor, what has been the toughest competition for you?
[1:13:10] Conor Burke: Like, I just, because it produced tears, like, faithfully versus I Feel Pretty, I'm pretty, like, it's just, yeah.
[1:13:15] Emilee Carroll: Of course, of course. So, and that could, that could happen, like, literally right now, so.
[1:13:23] Andrew: Yeah, it could. That's crazy.
[1:13:25] Conor Burke: Um, it's not.
[1:13:27] Emilee Carroll: Oh.
[1:13:29] Conor Burke: That was short-lived. So, that was a, that was a little...
[1:13:31] Andrew: No, we didn't, we're not doing that. Um, okay, it's a season six song. What?
[1:13:37] Emilee Carroll: Ooh, not many of those left.
[1:13:39] Conor Burke: Not many of those left. I think there's a lot of discourse to be had with this song, with the three of us.
[1:13:46] Andrew: Um.
[1:13:47] Emilee Carroll: Okay. I'm excited to see what you have to say about this. Do you know what this is? Okay. Yes, I know it's Bitch. It is Bitch. Here we go. Oh.
[1:13:59] Conor Burke: Bitch. Bitch. Bitch. Bitch. Bitch.
[1:14:06] Emilee Carroll: Bitch. Bitch.
[1:14:08] Andrew: Um, I love this. I'm just going to pull off the bandaid and say it. I love this song. And this is one of these songs that I felt so justified when I heard others talk about it very favorably on this podcast. And it's one of those ones that the girls who get it, get it. The girls who don't, don't.
[1:14:31] Conor Burke: Who are the girls that don't get it?
[1:14:34] Emilee Carroll: I'm sure there are many.
[1:14:36] Conor Burke: Emily, you're getting it. You're one of the girls that gets it.
[1:14:39] Emilee Carroll: I get it. I love. Okay. So I love this song. Like I love the Meredith Brooks version. I love this song. I am a big fan. Um, I think Jane sounds great on it. I just, it just feels kind of like the fever dream that is season six to me. So it feels like it's in the right place at the right time. I just don't know if it's what I'm reaching for.
[1:15:06] Andrew: This is not, you can't kind of like take this out and put it into, would it, I don't know, would you be able to take this out and put it into a season one episode and kind of like?
[1:15:16] Conor Burke: I don't think that this would have fit in the first three seasons of this show. I think if you put it anywhere four, five, and six, it would have had a better place.
[1:15:24] Emilee Carroll: I think this song, sorry, I think the song would fit, but not the, not the...
[1:15:29] Andrew: The way it is.
[1:15:31] Emilee Carroll: Right, right. I know you mean. I think that that's more, yes.
[1:15:35] Conor Burke: And so I don't dislike it. I don't, it's not that I don't get it. I get it. I just don't reach for it, I guess. But I do think it's fun. It's campy. It's definitely season six.
[1:15:46] Andrew: Yeah. And a good representation of...
[1:15:49] Conor Burke: Cartoonishly evil.
[1:15:52] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, right. Yeah.
[1:15:54] Conor Burke: I have no evidence for this whatsoever. But why do I feel like this is a song that Jane Lynch suggested?
[1:16:03] Andrew: Oh.
[1:16:05] Conor Burke: You know what I mean? It just feels like that. It's like, okay, we're getting into the final 13 now. It makes so sense, so much sense for Sue to sing Bitch.
[1:16:13] Emilee Carroll: Right, like Ryan said, what do you, what is Sue, what do you see Sue singing, you know?
[1:16:19] Andrew: How does Sue see it?
[1:16:21] Conor Burke: I'm looking at the songs that this has taken out to be here today. In round one, it was against Rock Lobster, I believe from the same episode.
[1:16:32] Emilee Carroll: Fair.
[1:16:35] Conor Burke: Round two. Not Rock Lobster.
[1:16:38] Emilee Carroll: Against Rock Lobster, of course.
[1:16:41] Conor Burke: And round two, it was against Outcast.
[1:16:44] Emilee Carroll: In one. Oh god.
[1:16:47] Conor Burke: In round three, it was against Staying Alive. Staying Alive is a song that I keep on like, thinking.
[1:16:54] Emilee Carroll: Criminal.
[1:16:55] Conor Burke: Now. Really?
[1:16:56] Emilee Carroll: I love Staying Alive.
[1:16:59] Conor Burke: Me too. Love Staying Alive. Staying Alive is so brilliant. The whole episode of Saturday Night Gleaver, to me, is one that I didn't get the first time I saw it. The first time I saw it, I was like, what is this? Why is this a whole disco episode? But the older I get, and the more I watch it, I am obsessed with every song in this episode.
[1:17:30] Emilee Carroll: I have talked about this so many times. People do not think about Saturday Night Gleaver in the Great Pantheon of excellent Glee episodes. I'm so glad that people are coming around to my way of thinking.
[1:17:41] Andrew: What is the one flop on the episode?
[1:17:44] Emilee Carroll: The one flop song?
[1:17:45] Conor Burke: For me, I don't...
[1:17:49] Emilee Carroll: Rolos really get a bollocking on this podcast.
[1:17:52] Conor Burke: No, no, I like it. I know people don't like it. Listen, listen. I like How Deep Is Your Love.
[1:17:58] Emilee Carroll: I've heard from people that they don't like it.
[1:18:03] Conor Burke: But I feel like if that's kind of...
[1:18:04] Emilee Carroll: It is.
[1:18:05] Conor Burke: Yeah, I've heard that too. You're right.
[1:18:07] Emilee Carroll: For me, it's the bottom of the tier list.
[1:18:10] Conor Burke: Yeah.
[1:18:11] Emilee Carroll: If you had to rank them, it's the bottom of my list.
[1:18:14] Conor Burke: I'm trying to think. Because you've got Stayin' Alive, you've got Disco Inferno, you've got...
[1:18:19] Emilee Carroll: You've got Night Fever.
[1:18:20] Conor Burke: Night Fever, Santana.
[1:18:22] Emilee Carroll: If I can't have you, you should be dancing.
[1:18:25] Conor Burke: Boogie Shoes.
[1:18:25] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, it probably is.
[1:18:26] Conor Burke: But it's not bad.
[1:18:27] Emilee Carroll: But it's alright. No.
[1:18:28] Conor Burke: Yeah, exactly.
[1:18:30] Emilee Carroll: No.
[1:18:33] Conor Burke: That is... I don't know. It's just such a well-crafted episode, just in terms of Flimmer, Sadie's and Santana, in my opinion, that I'm just like, this is just so much fun.
[1:18:41] Andrew: With Bitch, do we have anything to say? Because this is Sue's last number in the clacket.
[1:18:49] Conor Burke: She doesn't have a lot to begin with.
[1:18:50] Emilee Carroll: And so...
[1:18:51] Andrew: That's surprising that this is the one that made it.
[1:18:54] Conor Burke: What would you...
[1:18:54] Emilee Carroll: You would say what Vogue would be the one?
[1:18:56] Conor Burke: Vogue.
[1:18:57] Emilee Carroll: Yeah.
[1:18:58] Conor Burke: It is egregious that Vogue is still not here, for me personally. It's been years.
[1:19:01] Emilee Carroll: It's been five years? Okay, I'm going to make it six. I've been listening more to Physical. That one hits for me a little bit more now. Maybe it's because Olivia Newton-John has passed or whatever, that it's kind of a really iconic duo. But I think Vogue would be the one.
[1:19:25] Conor Burke: Vogue is the one. I think that Bitch, as a Sue song, encapsulates the character better than any other Sue song.
[1:19:37] Emilee Carroll: That it's like she's...
[1:19:38] Conor Burke: I agree with that.
[1:19:39] Emilee Carroll: You get the classic Sue stuff, villain, villain gal. And you get the layers of this character that are within the lyrics of this song. That she's a bitch, she's a lover, she's a child, she's a mother, she's a sinner, she's a saint. I do not feel ashamed.
[1:19:57] Conor Burke: Yeah, that's also in a similar vein why I also tend to agree with the fact that I really don't think that Little Girls is too egregious for product placement. Because it's like, yes, they did it purely because she's in Annie on Broadway. But it's like, it still does work though.
[1:20:19] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, I do too. I think that I agree that it was the perfect timing for what was happening in the show. And it just lined up and worked out well.
[1:20:29] Conor Burke: But I do agree, though, that I think this song really encapsulates who Sue is as a person and her overall.
[1:20:38] Emilee Carroll: But Little Girls is a close runner up to that in my book.
[1:20:41] Andrew: Yeah, I feel like not really too much to say about this performance. ISIS Awareness Week.
[1:20:47] Emilee Carroll: That was your first time catching that, Emily?
[1:20:49] Emilee Carroll: Oh my god, I think so.
[1:20:51] Conor Burke: I don't know why.
[1:20:53] Emilee Carroll: That really got you.
[1:20:55] Conor Burke: It really did.
[1:20:55] Emilee Carroll: Emily reminded me that, you know, ISIS Awareness Week, like that, the introduction of that red, the LED sign, is one of the, like, my dream job as a writer is to, like, work on a series like this and purely just write reoccurring jokes. Like, what is going on in this pamphlet?
[1:21:10] Conor Burke: Like the pamphlets.
[1:21:18] Emilee Carroll: What's going on in the pamphlet this week?
[1:21:19] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:21:20] Conor Burke: Like, I would love if some gleek out there did some deep research about every single pamphlet joke.
[1:21:29] Emilee Carroll: Oh, I'm sure that's out there.
[1:21:32] Conor Burke: I'm sure that's a post on the subreddit.
[1:21:35] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, I'm sure it is. I just feel like it's really, really easy to miss one.
[1:21:40] Conor Burke: Yeah.
[1:21:41] Emilee Carroll: Do you know what I mean? I feel like it's really easy.
[1:21:42] Conor Burke: Actually, Kate, I know you're listening. I know you have a lot of the props. Do you have any of the pamphlets? Would love to see one of the pamphlets.
[1:21:50] Emilee Carroll: Good.
[1:21:50] Conor Burke: Yeah.
[1:21:53] Emilee Carroll: I wonder if she does have any of the pamphlets.
[1:21:56] Conor Burke: Yeah. She's got her glee pop-up happening.
[1:21:57] Emilee Carroll: Oh, hey.
[1:21:58] Conor Burke: And I wonder if there's stuff in the inside.
[1:22:02] Emilee Carroll: Oh, they did not write that much.
[1:22:04] Conor Burke: Yeah, I don't, I think it's lorem.
[1:22:07] Emilee Carroll: What is that?
[1:22:07] Conor Burke: Lorem ipsum.
[1:22:09] Emilee Carroll: Yes, I call it jumble text.
[1:22:14] Conor Burke: Okay. What's your favourite pamphlet, though?
[1:22:17] Emilee Carroll: Oh, is that my period or have I been shot?
[1:22:22] Conor Burke: Perfect.
[1:22:25] Emilee Carroll: No, no, no, no.
[1:22:33] Conor Burke: I think that's perfect.
[1:22:37] Emilee Carroll: There's also the iconic me and my hag.
[1:22:41] Conor Burke: Me and my hag.
[1:22:42] Emilee Carroll: Oh, so you're a two-time in-ho?
[1:22:44] Conor Burke: So you're dating a two-time in-ho?
[1:22:47] Emilee Carroll: So you're dating a two-time in-ho.
[1:22:51] Conor Burke: Oh, Ian Brannan written all over it.
[1:22:53] Emilee Carroll: Oh, am I callous?
[1:22:56] Conor Burke: The one that she gives to Tina in the quarter.
[1:23:03] Emilee Carroll: When to stop talking.
[1:23:05] Conor Burke: Oh my god.
[1:23:08] Emilee Carroll: Me on this podcast.
[1:23:10] Conor Burke: Oh, speaking of Emma, I love, I have, like, a problem. I really like the sequence where Sue is rearranging Emma's death. I think that's so funny.
[1:23:19] Emilee Carroll: But it's like, it bothers me that Emma is not a character on the series, in the series at that point. That it's like, hey, this character still has, like, real estate in this world. That, like, she has this location that is specific to her character.
[1:23:33] Conor Burke: 100%.
[1:23:38] Emilee Carroll: That it's like, but we don't see her anymore. I love that.
[1:23:40] Conor Burke: Yeah.
[1:23:41] Emilee Carroll: That's so funny. And do you think, this is genuine, a genuine question. Do you think Emma is coming up with these pamphlets?
[1:23:50] Conor Burke: Or are we supposed to believe?
[1:23:52] Emilee Carroll: Isn't that part of the Spanish teacher episode? That she's like, I spend a lot of time on my pamphlets.
[1:23:57] Conor Burke: Oh, do they?
[1:23:58] Emilee Carroll: Yeah.
[1:24:00] Conor Burke: Yeah, she's writing.
[1:24:01] Emilee Carroll: No, the one where it's like, where it's like, what is it? It's something like, my mom's bipolar and she won't stop yelling. Um, how to give yourself stitches. That's another one.
[1:24:15] Conor Burke: I love that.
[1:24:17] Emilee Carroll: Do you remember the one where it was like, where it was like, divorce, why your parents stopped loving you?
[1:24:31] Conor Burke: Fucking brutal.
[1:24:33] Emilee Carroll: Emma is so, Emma's one of the best characters on this show. Can we just?
[1:24:36] Conor Burke: I miss her so bad.
[1:24:38] Emilee Carroll: Like, she is so.
[1:24:41] Conor Burke: What's Jema Pillsbury up to?
[1:24:43] Emilee Carroll: Jema Pillsbury?
[1:24:43] Conor Burke: Jema Mays?
[1:24:45] Emilee Carroll: Jema Pillsbury?
[1:24:46] Conor Burke: Jema Pillsbury?
[1:24:49] Emilee Carroll: That's how good of an actor she is.
[1:24:51] Conor Burke: Yeah.
[1:24:51] Emilee Carroll: She transforms into the role.
[1:24:54] Conor Burke: Um, what is she up to?
[1:24:56] Emilee Carroll: What is she up to? Oh, you know what? She is like, I don't know if the show is still on, but I've been doing this thing where I'm just like watching random pilots of TV shows. And, um, I watched the pilot for Leanne and she is like, she was in the pilot and she's like, um, like kind of like part of this, like Christian group in the, and she's like part of the, like a PTA mom and is like evil to Leanne in the, in the show. I don't know if that show is still on, but she's in it.
[1:25:22] Conor Burke: And is she just very like Jema Mays-esque?
[1:25:26] Emilee Carroll: Jema Mays can do no wrong. So yeah, she's, she's doing the thing.
[1:25:30] Conor Burke: Good for her.
[1:25:31] Emilee Carroll: Bitch. Do we have anything else to say about this Bitch?
[1:25:35] Conor Burke: I don't know. I'm curious to see who we'll be against.
[1:25:38] Emilee Carroll: I know. And I think that like, this is the way that we talked about it. We didn't really have a lot to say. I don't feel really good about her standing right now.
[1:25:48] Conor Burke: It's just, it just depends.
[1:25:51] Emilee Carroll: It all depends. Although you never know. You could pull Ice Ice Baby in that show.
[1:25:57] Conor Burke: Anything could happen. Um, real tonal shift. Um, what is like the most tonal shift song that you think we could get?
[1:26:06] Emilee Carroll: Something really sad and depressing.
[1:26:08] Conor Burke: Oh my God, you might be right on the money.
[1:26:10] Emilee Carroll: What would that be?
[1:26:13] Conor Burke: Everything from The Quarterback is gone, isn't it?
[1:26:15] Emilee Carroll: No, Seasons of Love is still around, but it's not that.
[1:26:18] Conor Burke: It's not that. Um, give us a clue.
[1:26:21] Emilee Carroll: Let's see if we can work it out.
[1:26:22] Conor Burke: No, sad, sad and depressing. You got it.
[1:26:24] Emilee Carroll: You're on the.
[1:26:27] Conor Burke: Is it a solo?
[1:26:29] Emilee Carroll: No.
[1:26:29] Conor Burke: Is it a solo?
[1:26:30] Emilee Carroll: No. And I can tell you right now, as I'm getting it up, the, um, the thumbnail, Jema Mays is in it.
[1:26:37] Conor Burke: Boom, boom, boom. It is.
[1:26:46] Andrew: Hey, everybody. Connor, I just think that was so, I don't know if Emily, you had the same experience during that number. Connor, you singing along for whatever reason.
[1:26:53] Conor Burke: It's a really hot mic right now for you. And so we could hear it.
[1:27:01] Andrew: And this is fine. You hear that.
[1:27:09] Conor Burke: Guys, you got it for free.
[1:27:11] Andrew: Free content.
[1:27:13] Conor Burke: You don't.
[1:27:16] Andrew: Who is that in the background singing? And I'm like, there it is. It's like, it's your sleep.
[1:27:22] Emilee Carroll: I'll listen to you when I'm in the corner. Can I just say, oh my god, I have not watched this in a minute. Leah was slam bang in the middle of her L'Oreal sponsorship because the hair is hairin'. Like, the hair is hairin'. She cracked the Ohio revenge look. She was like, you don't leave in the middle of the night like that. Now I'm gonna show up. Big summer blow dry. She got that blow dry. She got it done. She got her tint. And good for her. Another thing about Leah in this episode, the acting, acting, ha, acting, was so, you had four months. Oh, I watched that scene on repeat. When it came out, the two of them were so, I didn't do Brody. Okay. I didn't do, the way her like mouth is, I didn't do Brody.
Like, oh, iconic. Masterclass. What is it else she says? Oh, she says something like, she, you had four months. I hated what you did to me at that train station. I hated you. I hated you. I hated you. And she says, she says, I thought that's what a man does. Yeah. This is how a man loves you. Wait, and then what is like the promo line? The promo line for this episode was like, oh my God. Oh, it's this. You were my first love. And I want more than anything else for you to be my last. For you to be the last. I remember the way we know the promos. But do you remember the first line of that scene? It's so iconic when she's like, she's like, it's the way the camera pans, she's like this. She's like, she's like, this place is like Jerusalem.
All roads seem to lead here. I feel like we're just like repeating this entire scene. I love doing this. Repeating this entire scene, just like completely jumbled out of order. But I love the, I went to the tire shop. Didn't see you there. Didn't see you there. I'm just imagining in-universe Rachel walking into the tire shop. Just like looking in and it's like closed. And she's like, where are you? Where is he? Where is, this is a joke. Seriously, he needs to get a grip. Imagine her driving around town, just being like. In her four inch heels and her eight inches of extensions. Did someone say about this song before? I feel like it was the last round someone brought this up. That the whammer of it all.
Whammer being included. I love Jamie, I love Matthew Morrison. But the whammer of it all, we could have kind of done without. In lieu of maybe Marlee and Jake or something. They're doing a bandwagon breakup here. They're just like, oh, y'all are getting broken up. Y'all mind if we join? Yeah, my one note was that it should have been Mike and Tina. Because you never see. Especially because they were the longest together too. And they broke up and nothing happened. No waves. Because Mike comes back for Gleece right after this. And it would have been so easy to have a storyline of one of them, maybe Tina not being over it. Or some sort of storyline, God forbid, give them a storyline. And they could have been in the show instead of Wheeling Out.
This is season four. And it's like, you know, by now, you should know that the whole adult storyline of it, yes, they're one of the ones that's continued on. But that's just not the focus anymore. By season four, that's not where it- 100%. Well, it's really interesting to piggybacking on the conversation that we had around Emma and Bitch, that this is the first season, season four, that Jeyma Maze is not a series regular. But I feel like in season four, they actually do give Jeyma some meat. She has the breakup episode, they have a rekindling, she of course has getting married today. She has things to do. And I think, dare I say, even more than a lot of things that have happened in season three.
I think she was really perfectly utilized in seasons one and two. But three, I think that Jeyma has talked about this in interviews, that she's like, I just kind of got tired of just filling up space on set. That she's like, I don't really do much. This is such a large ensemble, I'm not given anything to do. There is a- this is so non sequitur, but whatever- there's a Glee fan convention happening in Paris, and I'm low-key thinking of going. And I'm low-key- my dream guest was Jeyma Maze. I would love for her to be there. So far, it's Matthew Morrison, Kevin McHale, Amber Riley, Cordova Street, right? Cordova- which is kind of- That's kind of a- And it's only building. Line up. Yeah. Yeah. I wonder if they'll have- do you have any more predictions?
When is it? I mean, I think that, like, Jenna- March 2027. Oh, okay. I'm thinking Jenna and Heather. I feel like- I feel like if Kevin's on board, Jenna will. Yeah. And Heather will. And Amber. If Amber's on board, too. Yeah. Shout out to Jeyma in this. And can I just say, I know she's cancelled at the moment, but thank God for- Oh, I thought you were talking about Jeyma Maze. Oh, she's never cancelled. I was like, what did Jeyma Maze do? Wait, who's cancelled? Goop. Kind of. Oh, wait, what's the latest on Goop? And wait, why are we bringing up Goop? Because the only reason they have rights to do Coldplay music is because of her. Oh. Got it. Yes. Got it. Got it. Let's call a spade a spade. And the two Coldplay songs that they covered are absolutely iconic.
Thank you very much. And there's something in the water, in a way, because some artists, they get the rights to perform their music and their songs are always flops, purely by fluke. And some artists, they get the rights to their music and they are hits. Wait, I'm so curious. Wait, talk your shit. Who are the artists that they do a number of times that are all not good? So one other artist, for example, that they absolutely killed it the two times is Florence and The Machine. Both excellent covers, in my opinion. The most egregious I can think of at the moment in terms of terrible covers, or maybe not terrible covers, I like elements of both, Ariana Grande. Great, great shout. Yes. Ariana Grande.
That's it. Break Free would have been fucking iconic as an end of episode rolo. Oh my God. The start of us when she's like, if you want it, I'm like, oh, oh my God, I can't. That's why we have AI. We need to hear the full rolo version. That's why. No, it would have been. You just know it would have been amazing. It would have been amazing. And it's a shame because I love Ariana Grande and I love her music and I think that they could have done some really fun, interesting things with her music. Like, oh my God, imagine Anaya Dangerous Woman. Dangerous Woman, God is a Woman. Come on. God is a Woman. I hate even asking you guys that question because it just makes me so depressed. There's just some of the music choices in the show, iconic as so many of them are, it's just kind of like, why didn't you do more?
Like, how did you not have the brainwave to only do one Spice Girls song and to make it shit in the meantime? It makes no sense whatsoever. To become one. Spice up your life. We have got goodbye. Say you'll be there. Mama. It's exhausting. Ryan is supposed to be a gay man. I don't think he is with the way he's going on. The way that this gay guy's acted, I don't think so. The way he is. Not a gay man. Ryan, you're not a gay man. Smart gay guy mode activated when he was writing the breakup episode. Oh, my favorite episode. Is it your favorite? Really. It's really, really good. Recently was on Hannah Bale's YouTube channel talking about this episode. This is her first time watching it. And then I joined her to answer any questions.
But I just like, I really think that it's just like, it's almost like, is sadistic the right word? That like, it's like, what's the word for like, getting pleasure out of other people's pain? Like, I think that Ryan Murphy... Schadenfreude. Yeah, like, he's like, he is like, really like, hey, I know that people have these connections to all these couples and Wemma. And like, I'm just gonna break them all up. And I just think that like, what a smart move. I just think that it's brilliantly filmed. I love the way the camera moves in this. The reveals of all the characters. So very, like, you can tell so much thought went into it. And I think that the one strike that I have against it is, I don't know, I have like, I'm of two minds where it's like, okay, so the clips that they show, like the flashbacks of all the different couples.
For the straight couples, they show them kissing. For the gay couples, they show Clayne running down the hallway and then Britannia giving a look to each other during a, say it with me, Rory number. Like, it feels crazy. Like, but then I'm also like, while I was watching it, I was like, can I actually be mad at that? Because are we saying that couples are just limited to kissing? And that like, kissing is the peak of like, a connection? That like, maybe this Britannia look at each other was like, much more powerful than. Yeah, but at least give, at least give, like, if we're all about equality here, at least give one of the gay couples a kiss in that, you know? Not only that, but like, you know, Blaine and Kurt's moment, like, that was a very, like, iconic moment where this, like, Britannia moment is just a, you know, just a throw away one of the million.
And there could have been a way better. It kind of gives, like, Mike and Tina that look to each other that it's like, that's the way that they look at each other when they're given nothing to do. Whose decision is it? Is this purely a director decision too? Because here's the thing, I think it's, it's, it's more so to do with the fact as in what is a gorgeous shot. Like, the shot of Corey and Leah looking at each other's eyes as they go to lay down and kiss, like, besides anything, it's a gorgeous shot. The running down the corridor of Adalton is a gorgeous shot. And I would also argue that, that Nia and Heather, the look, even though it's a look, it's still a gorgeous frame. You get so much out of their performance in that.
So I can't actually be too mad. Yeah, but I'm thinking, like, because all these shots have in common that it's only one shot, there's no cuts within, in these, like, flashbacks, that I'm thinking, like, I really love the way that they look at each other during landslide, which I think is kind of, like, synonymous with these, these, like, running down the corridor, we have the official first kiss, you know, like, I think that that would be synonymous, but you would need to include a cut in there. And so I'm not sure if that would work as well. I was also, I was also thinking Songbird during that, just the emotion that they have. But again, it would be a cut, just evil views. Yeah, because no one is, in all of the flashbacks, no one is moving their mouths, are they?
No. I mean, the ones that are kissing are, if you know what I mean. Sure, but you see, I think that's the thing. They needed, they needed, like, meaningful glances where it's not, if it was landslide, they'd be singing. Singing, yeah, that makes sense. But, and I googled, you were so right of how gorgeously shot this is, because I googled, I was like, and I was, thank God I was corrected, it is an episode directed by Alfonso. Alfonso! And for me, he kind of, he kind of has some hits, like, Asian acts, famously. Oh, he has exclusively hits. Yeah, yeah. And I'm just like, oh, he, one thing about Alfonso is he loves a bit, a camera pan. Oh, I think that, and also, like, randomly, he loves having the camera above, too, that, like, he loves these aerial shots.
I'm thinking about, like, this random-ass shot in the cemetery before Papa, can you hear me? That it's like, why is, the camera is never up there. Girl, get down, you know, you're scaring me. I think, I think he's done some work on American Horror Story as well, and I think he really loves the, do you know that weird fisheye lens that American Horror Story uses? Yes, yes. He loves the fisheye, he loves the fisheye. Well, I'm thinking, like, he also did, I don't know if you have it up right now, he also did Britney 2.0, I believe, too, and I think that, like, when Jake comes into the Glee Club and, like, he's, like, looking around at all the different Glee Club members for the first time, I think that's a fisheye lens that he's, like, looking at, like, Tina and Artie and Joe and whatever, and it's, like, this really, like, cockeyed lens to, like, really reiterate, like, how out of this world.
[1:41:55] Conor Burke: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. That is really cool. Really inventive. Okay, yeah. So good for him. Good for you, Alfonso. Love him so much. Do we have anything else to say about "The Scientist"? Do we want to vote? I mean, the vocals. Come on. Lea said, hello! And then she's like, you know what? I'm going to do it again. I'm going to do it again. And this time it might be a little bit better if you guys are cool with that. Yeah, exactly. Only slight criticism is I know the flashbacks. Okay, the Wemma flashback is really long and I want it back there. I want the belt. I want to see Lea belting it out as the camera pans away from her. It's such is the power of her voice. She pushes the camera away. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? The Wemma cut is probably the longest. It feels really long.
[1:43:13] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, I believe it. Yeah. What is that about? What is that about? Who is watching this for Wemma in season four? Not I. Honest to God. It was the most brutal will they won't they in season one. We're still here. Wait, Emilee, you have things to say here.
[1:43:30] Emilee Carroll: No, the only thing I wanted to say was, I do really much agree with, and I think the reason that I like this episode so much is because it is giving the relationships that we know and we love to grow in by breaking them up and letting them explore other avenues that we might have not seen possible. And maybe even the writers were like, hey, we don't know how long this is going to go. This is before Cory passed and before they had a different plan. But it is, I think the reason why I love it so much is because it allows them to do different things. Because we all know that, you know, if you were a fan of this, you knew that these couples, at least most of them, were going to be endgame, right?
They were going to be, you know, this was, but it's so early on in their journey, in their lives, that it would be so unbelievable for them not to experience other things. And that is what made a lot of these season four and five as interesting as it did, because they had room to grow and to experience other things.
[1:45:00] Conor Burke: Yeah, and we're not seeing them as a pair. We're not seeing them as like one unit. We're seeing them separate.
[1:45:06] Emilee Carroll: Right. As individuals, exactly. Even if they weren't around as much, you're seeing that they are getting to experience life outside of those walls or outside of those constraints. But, you know, you know the show is going to always bring them back together in some way or another. So yeah, it's kind of like the beginning of a new chapter.
[1:45:22] Conor Burke: Yeah. And I think it's just really, really well done. Any final things that we need to say before we vote?
[1:45:31] Emilee Carroll: They should have put, yeah, they should have put Dottie Casatori in there, just because that hurt her for a moment.
[1:45:35] Conor Burke: Dottie Casatori.
[1:45:37] Emilee Carroll: Who do you think she's with?
[1:45:38] Conor Burke: That's her.
[1:45:39] Emilee Carroll: We've been left behind. We've been left behind.
[1:45:43] Conor Burke: Oh, she's singing about, her breakup is with her in the left behind club. Yes.
[1:45:49] Emilee Carroll: Yes.
[1:45:52] Conor Burke: You've been left behind, Dottie Casatori.
[1:45:54] Emilee Carroll: Her and JDI would be the best couple.
[1:45:59] Conor Burke: No, doesn't she canonically date Soner Brett for a few episodes? Is that not correct?
[1:46:05] Emilee Carroll: She does. I think they go to prom together or something.
[1:46:10] Conor Burke: But I always just thought her and JDI have the same vein of, you know, kind of that tagalong, wanting to be included, but wanting to, you know, have the know of things and be on the radar of these people, but in a different tier. So I don't know, I always kind of just thought that was...
[1:46:32] Emilee Carroll: Hey, what is their ship name? JBDot?
[1:46:39] Conor Burke: No, just Jacob Ben Dottie.
[1:46:44] Emilee Carroll: Dottie Ben Israel.
[1:46:45] Conor Burke: Oh, Dottie Ben Israel.
[1:46:49] Conor Burke: Okay, I'm locking in a vote for "The Scientist." I don't care.
[1:46:56] Emilee Carroll: He don't care.
[1:46:57] Conor Burke: Good for you, girl.
[1:47:00] Emilee Carroll: Good for you, girl, you got on the show.
[1:47:02] Conor Burke: You got on the show.
[1:47:02] Emilee Carroll: Good for you, girl, you got on the show.
[1:47:04] Conor Burke: Was that the last one?
[1:47:05] Emilee Carroll: You better be next.
[1:47:06] Conor Burke: Wait, was that in our episode "All Together," Emily?
[1:47:10] Emilee Carroll: Was that...
[1:47:10] Conor Burke: No.
[1:47:11] Emilee Carroll: What episode was that in, Conor, that you made that reference?
[1:47:14] Conor Burke: It was me with...
[1:47:16] Emilee Carroll: Oh, I think Alison Alamode.
[1:47:17] Conor Burke: Oh, who did... It was Alison Alamode. I was crying laughing.
[1:47:20] Emilee Carroll: The two of you got the reference, but you were like, I don't know where that's from.
[1:47:24] Conor Burke: It's from "Hairspray."
[1:47:26] Emilee Carroll: Good for you, girl, you got on the show.
[1:47:27] Conor Burke: You better be next.
[1:47:31] Conor Burke: Rory to Joe.
[1:47:36] Emilee Carroll: You better be next.
[1:47:37] Conor Burke: Literally Jamie McIntyre and Samuel Larson.
[1:47:42] Emilee Carroll: Good for you, girl, you got on the show.
[1:47:44] Conor Burke: You better be next.
[1:47:45] Emilee Carroll: You better be next.
[1:47:47] Conor Burke: Who wants to vote next?
[1:47:49] Emilee Carroll: "The Scientist." Lock it in.
[1:47:50] Conor Burke: Yeah, I will also go for "The Scientist."
[1:47:53] Emilee Carroll: Are we sad about this?
[1:47:54] Conor Burke: Sorry, bitch.
[1:47:55] Emilee Carroll: I'm sad about "Bitch."
[1:47:57] Conor Burke: I'm sad about "Bitch," but come on, she's had her time.
[1:48:00] Emilee Carroll: Right, she made it this far.
[1:48:01] Conor Burke: Now come on now.
[1:48:02] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, come on.
[1:48:03] Conor Burke: Top 100 is nothing to scoff at.
[1:48:05] Emilee Carroll: Yeah, so in recap for this episode, you are our teenage dream every night, I guess.
[1:48:16] Conor Burke: I'm just... Am I phoning this one in?
[1:48:18] Emilee Carroll: No, that's good. You see, you're... No, you're not phoning yourself in. You see, you're only phoning yourself in when you're doubting yourself.
[1:48:26] Conor Burke: Okay.
[1:48:26] Conor Burke: So well done.
[1:48:27] Emilee Carroll: Okay.
[1:48:30] Conor Burke: "Teenager," your dream is to go to round five.
[1:48:34] Emilee Carroll: And dream came true.
[1:48:38] Conor Burke: Yeah, it did.
[1:48:39] Conor Burke: "Any Way You Want It."
[1:48:39] Emilee Carroll: They're going to Hollywood.
[1:48:40] Conor Burke: "Any Way You Want It."
[1:48:42] Emilee Carroll: You are not getting it any way you want it.
[1:48:47] Conor Burke: Love and touch and squeeze and you're right to hell.
[1:48:50] Emilee Carroll: Right, squeezing you down.
[1:48:53] Conor Burke: I don't know.
[1:48:53] Emilee Carroll: Squeezing down.
[1:48:55] Conor Burke: I'm doubting myself. I'm doubting myself again. I'm doubting myself.
[1:49:02] Emilee Carroll: Bitch, you didn't do it, bitch.
[1:49:05] Conor Burke: Bitch, you better be joking.
[1:49:09] Conor Burke: "The Scientist," you... I went into a lab.
[1:49:15] Conor Burke: I went into a lab and I told the scientist to create the most perfect melodies that humankind has ever heard.
[1:49:22] Conor Burke: Came back with you.
[1:49:25] Conor Burke: You're beautiful.
[1:49:27] Conor Burke: And I think you know it.
[1:49:30] Conor Burke: Um, okay. Conor and Emilee, thank you so much for joining me this week. This has been so much fun.
[1:49:34] Emilee Carroll: Are we happy with these competitions?
[1:49:38] Conor Burke: I am happy with these competitions.
[1:49:40] Conor Burke: I feel like I've done my civic duty today.
[1:49:42] Emilee Carroll: Yeah!
[1:49:46] Conor Burke: I feel like I clocked in for my shift and I've came.
[1:49:49] Emilee Carroll: Yeah.
[1:49:50] Conor Burke: Do you know what I mean? I can't, like, I've achieved.
[1:49:53] Conor Burke: Um, what do you have to, what is your call to Glaxion for the Gleeks, Connor?
[1:49:59] Conor Burke: My call to Glaxion, I can finally talk about my show.
[1:50:02] Emilee Carroll: Oh, yes.
[1:50:03] Conor Burke: Which is called "Gleek of the Week," would you believe?
[1:50:07] Conor Burke: It's a one-person musical that is not about this podcast.
[1:50:11] Emilee Carroll: Uh-huh.
[1:50:12] Conor Burke: But it is a one-person show that is being staged as part of the 2026 Dublin Fringe Festival in Dublin, Ireland, which is very, very exciting.
[1:50:24] Conor Burke: It's one of the biggest platforms I've, like, kind of ever had in terms of staging my own work. It's a very great festival and it's ostensibly a one-person performance about me as a 17-year-old and watching "Glee."
[1:50:38] Conor Burke: It's not totally about "Glee" itself. It's about how we all find comfort in art and why that is and isn't that lovely. And it's also about, like, reflecting as a 30-something year old back on our lives as teenagers and seeing how far we've come and why that's important and why that's emotional to us.
[1:51:04] Conor Burke: And, yeah, it's a one-hour musical and it's a lot of fun. But I also think it's, like, really touching kind of thing. I've written it to be tonally as close as possible to "Glee" itself.
[1:51:17] Emilee Carroll: Yeah.
[1:51:18] Conor Burke: So, like, it moves very quick. It's kind of wacky. It's great.
[1:51:22] Conor Burke: So if you happen to be in or around Dublin, I'm talking to the UK Gleeks as well, you can get on a £20 flight.
[1:51:30] Conor Burke: Get your arse over here.
[1:51:31] Emilee Carroll: That's crazy.
[1:51:32] Conor Burke: Yeah. Get over here and come see the show.
[1:51:35] Conor Burke: We run from Monday 7th of September to the 12th on Saturday.
[1:51:41] Conor Burke: So it's a really great theatre as well. It's a very intimate space. We kind of purposely did it in that way because it's predominantly set in my bedroom, so to speak.
[1:51:52] Conor Burke: And the set is looking great. Like, a lot of odes to, like, as we were talking about 2010, 2011, like, all of the stuff that we would have had hung on our walls. It's going to be very fun.
[1:52:02] Conor Burke: So, yeah, keep an eye out for that. There's an Instagram attached.
[1:52:06] Emilee Carroll: Yes?
[1:52:07] Conor Burke: There is an Instagram attached.
[1:52:09] Conor Burke: And the Instagram is @GleekOfTheWeekShow.
[1:52:15] Emilee Carroll: Come on.
[1:52:16] Conor Burke: It's like...
[1:52:16] Emilee Carroll: Show.
[1:52:17] Conor Burke: Show.
[1:52:19] Conor Burke: Yeah.
[1:52:19] Conor Burke: It's like the automated...
[1:52:21] Emilee Carroll: It's like really bad ADR when you can just tell that the actor is not in it.
[1:52:26] Conor Burke: Gleek of the Week Show.
[1:52:28] Conor Burke: I remember when I made this podcast and I made the Instagram to go along with it, like, I still have the message to this day to Gleek of the Week on Instagram.
[1:52:38] Conor Burke: It's, like, an account that was, like, very active in, like, 2011.
[1:52:43] Conor Burke: And it had, like, four posts.
[1:52:45] Emilee Carroll: No way.
[1:52:45] Conor Burke: And I was like, hey, I'll give you, like, $25 if you just, like, give me this.
[1:52:54] Conor Burke: And I don't think that whoever has that account or whoever did have that account hasn't logged in.
[1:52:59] Emilee Carroll: They have not.
[1:53:00] Conor Burke: But I desperately wanted the @GleekOfTheWeek.
[1:53:03] Emilee Carroll: But it still worked out.
[1:53:06] Conor Burke: It still worked out brilliantly.
[1:53:07] Conor Burke: But that is kind of amazing.
[1:53:10] Emilee Carroll: I thought you were going to say they got back and haggled you for more.
[1:53:13] Conor Burke: Oh, no, no.
[1:53:15] Emilee Carroll: What would your cutoff have been?
[1:53:20] Conor Burke: What an inappropriate question to ask.
[1:53:22] Conor Burke: Would you have paid $100?
[1:53:27] Conor Burke: No, because I would be afraid. Because I had a friend of mine that got scammed by that before.
[1:53:31] Conor Burke: They wanted an ad and they had a conversation like that.
[1:53:35] Conor Burke: And they paid and they didn't get the ad.
[1:53:40] Emilee Carroll: So I don't think that I would go too high at all.
[1:53:43] Conor Burke: But I'm really excited for your show, "Gleek of the Week Show."
[1:53:47] Emilee Carroll: Really incredible, the things that you've let me in to learn about.
[1:53:51] Conor Burke: It's such a special show.
[1:53:53] Emilee Carroll: I'm very, very proud of you.
[1:53:55] Conor Burke: I just know.
[1:53:55] Conor Burke: Thank you so much.
[1:53:56] Conor Burke: I just know that if you guys, like the people who regularly guest on this pod, if you ever had the chance to see it, it would have been.
[1:54:03] Conor Burke: And this is not a conceited thing at all. It would have just been purely like a almost religious experience for all.
[1:54:09] Conor Burke: It's very emotional for me to even talk about it.
[1:54:12] Conor Burke: So I just know that, like, you two, for example, would be in floods of tears.
[1:54:17] Emilee Carroll: But in a good way.
[1:54:18] Conor Burke: Yes.
[1:54:19] Conor Burke: Yeah, it's so incredible.
[1:54:21] Conor Burke: I'll keep you all updated.
[1:54:22] Conor Burke: And yeah, you never know. It might make its way somewhere else at some point.
[1:54:25] Emilee Carroll: But yeah, that's what I've learned.
[1:54:28] Conor Burke: Emilee, do you have to say anything to the Gleeks at this time?
[1:54:32] Emilee Carroll: Um, not really. Just keep on Gleeking on.
[1:54:36] Conor Burke: Keep on Gleeking.
[1:54:37] Emilee Carroll: And you, the playlist that you're running, where are they?
[1:54:41] Emilee Carroll: Oh, yes.
[1:54:42] Emilee Carroll: Um, I'm running the Apple Music playlist.
[1:54:46] Emilee Carroll: So, um, if you are listening for, you know, what's on, what's in the current round four, and what's making it to round five, just find me on Apple Music.
[1:54:56] Emilee Carroll: Um, it's Emily C. If you search Glackett, it will come up.
[1:55:01] Conor Burke: Yeah, there's usually, yeah, there's usually too many of them, but Glackett, so, um, yeah.
[1:55:07] Emilee Carroll: I love it.
[1:55:07] Emilee Carroll: It's so great that you've got, we've got, like, a little team, like, I love it.
[1:55:11] Conor Burke: It really makes me happy.
[1:55:12] Emilee Carroll: It's so nice.
[1:55:13] Conor Burke: Yeah.
[1:55:15] Conor Burke: Spotify one.
[1:55:16] Emilee Carroll: Yeah.
[1:55:19] Conor Burke: We've got Amelia on analytics.
[1:55:22] Emilee Carroll: We've got Amelia over on analytics.
[1:55:26] Conor Burke: Um, I need to have them back.
[1:55:27] Conor Burke: Um, and then also you can leave a voicemail.
[1:55:29] Emilee Carroll: Thank you again for Shanice, um, who sent in that lovely voicemail at the beginning of this episode.
[1:55:34] Conor Burke: If you want to leave a voicemail, you can do that at 347-719-1160.
[1:55:40] Emilee Carroll: Um, send a voicemail about, hey, if you want us to talk about a song that maybe didn't have its time in the sun enough, or if you had any thoughts about any competitions that have transpired, we'd love to hear from you.
[1:55:51] Conor Burke: I just, I feel like I want, I want to really expand the opinions that are being shared.
[1:55:58] Emilee Carroll: I want to hear from you.
[1:55:59] Emilee Carroll: If you feel like your voice isn't being heard, well, now, now is your chance.
[1:56:04] Conor Burke: So that's it.
[1:56:07] Emilee Carroll: Um, anything else?
[1:56:09] Conor Burke: Just to say that everyone listening is really hot and sexy.
[1:56:13] Emilee Carroll: Oh, yeah, they are.
[1:56:14] Conor Burke: And especially if you made it to this, the very, very end of the episode, you're the sexiest.
[1:56:19] Emilee Carroll: That's you.
[1:56:21] Conor Burke: Okay.
[1:56:22] Conor Burke: Until next week.
[1:56:23] Emilee Carroll: Okay, bye!
