[0:00] Andrew: We've got a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.
[0:09] Andrew: There's no rhyme or reason to it, so don't get mad at me.
[0:18] Andrew: Glacket by Glacket, we'll rank everyone to see which song will move closer to spot number one.
[0:26] Andrew: Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week. It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
[0:35] Andrew: Okay, well, we're going to Glacket again. This week, it's serious. And I need to do some promo at the beginning, because I don't know if you guys listened to the promo at the end.
[0:46] Andrew: Promo time! If you're not a patron, go to patreon.com slash Gleek of the Week pod. Allison Dodge and I, who did plenty of episodes of this podcast, we have recapped all of Gleek Project Season 1, which is public, and Gleek Project Season 2, which is behind a paywall.
[1:02] Andrew: Only $3 a month to listen to us recap all of Gleek Project Season 2. And now that that's over, we're doing monthly live streams of episodes that you would like us to see watch. So if you would like to. And I also think it's worth it to join, because you get that Gleek Project episodes in HD from Robert Oros himself.
[1:24] Andrew: Oh, oh my god, Robert's back, too, this week. And he has a crazy new accent. Robert's new accent just dropped. Robert's new accent just dropped. Okay, wait, so that person is Robert, aka Jacob Kyon. Are you still going by King Kyon?
[1:50] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, anything.
[1:50] Andrew: Okay, okay, King. Jacob, we have not seen you since very early on in round one. How is everything going?
[1:57] Jacob Kyon: I can't believe it. Like, it's been, honestly, been four years since I last was on the podcast.
[2:01] Andrew: No, that can't be true.
[2:05] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, three and some change.
[2:05] Andrew: Oh, three and some change. Okay, okay. I still remember it was during the New Zealand lockdown, because we were in lockdown a lot, way after everybody else. And I still think that we had one of the hardest battles. What do you call them? Competitions?
[2:24] Jacob Kyon: Competitions. There we go.
[2:24] Andrew: Oh, yeah. We had If I Die Young versus the Troubletones number.
[2:29] Jacob Kyon: Candyman.
[2:29] Andrew: Yes. Yeah, that was intense. I gotta say, If I Die Young, still in the cup, I'm ready to see her off.
[2:44] Jacob Kyon: Me, too. She needs, yeah, I feel it.
[2:50] Andrew: Wait, who the heck are you?
[2:56] Nicky Anders: Oh, hi, guys. I'm Nicky Anders.
[2:59] Andrew: Nicky! What's up? Queen Nicky dominant.
[3:02] Nicky Anders: Oh my gosh. Nicky and Robert debuting new accents.
[3:02] Jacob Kyon: Hey.
[3:02] Nicky Anders: Hey. But seriously, I feel like the If I Die Young of it all is the most, we need to get rid of her. She's had her day in the sun. There's just too much emotionality up to it. Quite frankly, I do not want to be in an episode when that song is pulled.
[3:21] Jacob Kyon: That's going to happen to you.
[3:23] Nicky Anders: Well, it's going to happen. It will definitely happen to me.
[3:25] Andrew: It's going to happen to you, Andrew.
[3:26] Andrew: The odds are increasing that it could happen, you know, this very recording. But I think that, like, Jacob, when we pulled If I Die Young in your initial episode, I had a much different idea of, like, what If I Die Young could be in the glacket. But I was like, oh, this could make it very far. But I just yeah, I agree kind of that there's just too much like baggage associated.
[3:49] Jacob Kyon: There's too much emotionality attached to it now, especially because whenever let's just call it a spade a spade, whenever a Naya heavy song is pulled as it is, one of the Gleeks kind of gets emote. Do you know what I mean? Like, I just think I kind of take away everything else from it and just listen to the cover of the song. And I love the arrangement. I love that song. Naya singing anything contrary to your voice sounds amazing. So, yeah. And I've noticed, Andrew, you take a lot of like the storyline into accountability when it comes to picking in the competitions.
[4:30] Andrew: I think like 90 percent I'm listening to the vocal in the arrangement.
[4:30] Jacob Kyon: Really?
[4:31] Andrew: Yeah, which is weird. Because If I Die Young, to keep it going, talking about this girl, If I Die Young, the MP3 is so much better to me than the MP4 for very obvious reasons.
[4:42] Jacob Kyon: Okay.
[4:43] Andrew: But like I think like that's like I don't I would say like top two Santolos for me. I think it's so beautiful.
[4:48] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, yeah.
[4:50] Nicky Anders: I feel like I fall in between both of you, like in terms of I really do think about the storyline and stuff like that. But interestingly, kind of what Jacob is saying, I when push comes to shove, like if it came down to a really, really tough competition, I think the question I will always come back to is what do I stream more if someone had a gun to my head? I'm like, what's the one that is in my life the most?
[5:12] Jacob Kyon: That's a magical question. So but it's a case by case basis, guys. We know what it's like in the podcast.
[5:20] Andrew: Oh, anything can happen. Has it been pulled yet?
[5:24] Jacob Kyon: It's done, though, I believe. I think like it was like back to back episodes of like because that doesn't feature Ellie Stricker in the song, but she's like in the MP4.
[5:35] Andrew: She's in the MP4.
[5:35] Jacob Kyon: It was like that was pulled one week and then We've Got Tonight was pulled the next week and they both went goodbye. And so Ellie Stricker did not have a good string of episodes there.
[5:47] Nicky Anders: Yeah. Um, okay. Well, Wheel away. Wheel the hell.
[5:50] Andrew: The hell away. And that's what we said to her.
[5:53] Nicky Anders: Um, that's so fucked up. But the Glockenspiel do be like that. Um, okay, Jacob, do you dare I ask? It's been nearly four years. Glockenspiel hot takes.
[6:07] Jacob Kyon: Right.
[6:09] Jacob Kyon: He's like, I don't have one. No, I wish I had one. Well, yes, I'm like a season four girly, like season four is the best season for me. Song wise, storyline wise, I just love it. I think it's so good. I think like it's genius having like, for an example, there are worse things I can do is the best song ever on Glee period.
[6:28] Andrew: That's the winner of your Glockett?
[6:30] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, that's the winner of my Glockett. And I just love the whole I think it's just so theatrical and cinematic to have three different characters in three different locations singing the same song, but singing about different things. Um, I think it was genius how they did that with their worst. There's a lot of examples of that as well. Um, I remember last time I was on the podcast, it was pretty controversial because I said, my worst Glee song isn't what does the Fox say or Gangnam style? The worst Glee song for me is, um, I have nothing.
[7:02] Andrew: I have nothing. And I think I still stand by that.
[7:06] Nicky Anders: Yeah, that's, that's pretty bad. That's awful.
[7:10] Jacob Kyon: Um, wait, here am I?
[7:12] Nicky Anders: Fight that I should have relistened to your initial episode in preparation.
[7:15] Jacob Kyon: No, I know you agreed. You agreed.
[7:17] Andrew: Okay. And I did say about Gangnam style. I said, I actually, I don't mind Gangnam style. I love the drama of the Marley fall at the end. And, you know, that she has vocals in it.
[7:30] Jacob Kyon: It's a Gangnam style Glee cast versus my Glee cast is aging like a fine wine.
[7:35] Jacob Kyon: It really is. It's like, finally people are coming around. I feel.
[7:38] Nicky Anders: Yeah. I like the kitty moment when she's like fast dancing and then she like winks at the professor. I just think it's, it's very camp. It's looking camp directly in the eye.
[7:48] Jacob Kyon: It's just like a Tobin.
[7:51] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. But I do have some, some competition, um, hot takes, um, take me to church versus cherish. Obviously like that was just like, I, I hate to bring it up. Like people, I wonder which way Andrew voted.
[8:04] Andrew: I know. It's really a nail biter. Um, that was crazy. I'm sorry that that happened.
[8:10] Jacob Kyon: Oh, that's fine. Like it's, it was my favorite Roger Rolo, but, um, it's not really counted as a Roger Rolo though, is it?
[8:21] Nicky Anders: Because Jane and Madison.
[8:24] Jacob Kyon: The Warbler.
[8:25] Andrew: And no, no, the Warbler sings on it.
[8:27] Jacob Kyon: Oh, he's on it as well. Michael Olivier.
[8:30] Nicky Anders: Yes. Yeah. Well he's on the, on the, um, studio version.
[8:33] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. Um, I don't know if he's on the other version, but yeah. Oh, I just, I think like Roger's vocals sound amazing and it, and it outdoes the original, the arrangement, the, the backing vocals. Crazy.
[8:45] Andrew: Anyway, there are two Roger Rolos in round three. Um, we have father figure and Mustang Sally.
[8:54] Jacob Kyon: See Mustang Sally. Um, no, not, not, I'm not, I love Mustang Sally. I'm not a fan of, uh, of the other one, but.
[9:01] Nicky Anders: What the?
[9:02] Jacob Kyon: It's okay.
[9:02] Nicky Anders: How?
[9:03] Jacob Kyon: Father figure. I know, I just haven't fathomed it yet. Maybe I need to get into it.
[9:08] Nicky Anders: Oh, stream it this Father's Day. It's really incredible.
[9:12] Jacob Kyon: Um, my next grievance is ding dong, which is dead at a thousand years. Um, I just cannot even fathom how you could like ding dong, which is dead over a thousand years. I think a thousand years is one of my favorite duets on the show. It is perfect for the voices.
[9:28] Nicky Anders: That was Patrick's first appearance on the Glockett. That was like him. Like because like we both, we watched both performances, obviously, but then we were like, Oh, like obviously it's a thousand years. And then Patrick effectively convinced us to all vote for ding dong, which is dead. And.
[9:45] Jacob Kyon: How I don't, I don't get it, but, um, yeah, I, I just love it as well because a thousand years is the part two version, which is, um, it's completely different to the original. Um, fun fact.
[9:56] Nicky Anders: Oh, really? I don't really.
[9:59] Jacob Kyon: And I remember this, this, um, the original starts with heartbeat fast and this one's the day we met. I don't know. It's got like two other, two other verses in it.
[10:12] Nicky Anders: Thousand years lore drop. That's crazy.
[10:14] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. Yeah. I remember the spoilers hearing that, um, and I just thought it was perfect that Molly and Jake were, was singing that. Um, yeah, I wasn't a twy hard, but a couple of my friends were, so.
[10:28] Nicky Anders: Oh my God. I forgot. A couple of my friends were.
[10:33] Jacob Kyon: A couple of my friends were twy hards.
[10:35] Nicky Anders: Yeah. That was close to me. Um, what else is coming up for you?
[10:40] Jacob Kyon: Uh, so give your heart a break, wishing and hoping. Um, that was really sad.
[10:45] Nicky Anders: Um, yeah, I'm seeing the season four elitism, you know, rearing its head.
[10:51] Jacob Kyon: But also give your heart, that was like, that's one of the coolest arrangements of a Glee song. Like they made it into a weird.
[10:57] Nicky Anders: But I think that's like wishing and hoping is one of the best Heather vocals, if not the best.
[11:04] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, it is. I would have voted give your heart a break. I'm with you on that one.
[11:09] Nicky Anders: Oh, thank you.
[11:10] Jacob Kyon: Like I would have, yeah, I would have been in your camp. I'm just going to say.
[11:15] Nicky Anders: Thank God. Um, and then my next one is born this way versus we are young. I get why people are born this way, but we are young. I mean, come on.
[11:25] Andrew: Wait, can I say something?
[11:26] Nicky Anders: Yeah.
[11:27] Andrew: You just went, sorry, I'm going to say it anyway. Um, you just went from a very early round one episode to a very recent round two episode. I'm just like putting together in my head.
[11:42] Jacob Kyon: Are there, there were no other competitions between there that really struck a chord?
[11:47] Nicky Anders: There are, but they're just not in order.
[11:49] Jacob Kyon: Oh, okay.
[11:50] Nicky Anders: I was like, wait a minute. We did really well for a really long time.
[11:55] Andrew: They're from the least to most egregious, Andrew, so just drop it.
[11:59] Andrew: Oh, got it.
[11:59] Nicky Anders: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Put it that way.
[12:02] Jacob Kyon: Um, but yeah, so I can't remember. So who did, would you guys have, have, um, preferred born this way or we are young?
[12:11] Nicky Anders: That was our episode.
[12:12] Jacob Kyon: Was I on that episode?
[12:13] Nicky Anders: Yeah.
[12:13] Jacob Kyon: What did I vote?
[12:15] Nicky Anders: We both voted for, we are young. Alison Dodge voted for, um, born this way. And she was like, you guys are going to hear it from the Gleeks. And indeed we did.
[12:24] Andrew: Wait, so we have,
[12:25] Nicky Anders: But not that much though, like not that much, really.
[12:29] Jacob Kyon: So did we are young go through?
[12:31] Nicky Anders: We are young went through.
[12:32] Jacob Kyon: We are, yeah.
[12:33] Jacob Kyon: Oh, so why do I even have that on my list? I'm sorry. That's what I wanted. I wanted, we are young to go through.
[12:38] Nicky Anders: Oh, oh, oh, we're blind.
[12:40] Jacob Kyon: Okay.
[12:40] Nicky Anders: Well, I love it when that happens.
[12:43] Jacob Kyon: Love that.
[12:44] Jacob Kyon: Um, I don't know. That was, must've been an error on my part. Now I've got some that I don't know the outcome of. And so I've just got question marks because they're like my favorite Glee songs ever. So on our way is one of my favorites.
[12:57] Nicky Anders: Lost.
[12:57] Jacob Kyon: Season five, the end of twerk.
[13:00] Nicky Anders: Oh, it lost.
[13:00] Jacob Kyon: It lost to break free that recently just died in the last episode.
[13:04] Nicky Anders: In the last episode. Yeah.
[13:06] Jacob Kyon: It lost to break free.
[13:09] Nicky Anders: That's horrendous.
[13:10] Jacob Kyon: You got to rewatch MP4 break free. There's so much material there actually.
[13:16] Nicky Anders: Break free. I hate it. Yeah.
[13:19] Jacob Kyon: You're not giving anything.
[13:22] Nicky Anders: It's really interesting to put Cecil Vista and coach beast on an Ariana Grande song.
[13:26] Jacob Kyon: Put it.
[13:27] Nicky Anders: I was like, the thing, the thing with me for break free is that I've since 2015, I've been so sad that it wasn't just a row low end of episode number because when Leah comes out at the start of it, she sounds amazing. I'm like, oh my God, she's really doing her own thing with this track. And then. Events occur, which kind of detract from that brilliant opening. Let's just say that.
[13:57] Nicky Anders: Yeah. Yeah.
[14:00] Jacob Kyon: I mean, I'm not streaming it, but every time I see the MP4, I'm like, wait, this is, there's actually something here.
[14:11] Jacob Kyon: Was Lea Michele's biggest year of Ariana Grande. She sang "Break Free" and then filmed the first season of "Scream Queens." And that video, that clip of her and Ari walking around the set of "Scream Queens" doing an interview is the most iconic thing ever. I just know the energy on that set was cursed. I fucking love it. Between those two and Emma Roberts, like, please. And then Abigail Breslin, who is just like, kind of just like, gay icon legend status to me. I don't think people get her in the same way that I do. I just, I need to know what her energy was that she brought to the "Scream Queens" set. I mean, like, Little Miss Sunshine. Am I right? That was a reset. And like, what about Skylar? Like, she is just such an enigma.
[14:58] Conor: Oh, Skylar. So weird. Skylar Samuels, the lead of "Scream Queens."
[15:04] Jacob Kyon: Skylar Samuels, yeah.
[15:05] Conor: Senorita Olsen.
[15:06] Jacob Kyon: Senorita Olsen.
[15:07] Conor: Senorita Olsen. She coined that. Yeah. But like, I think, Conor, maybe you and I have like, talked over messages about Skylar Samuels, where you were like, what do you think the deal was with her? And my headcanon is that...
[15:15] Jacob Kyon: Hey, Andrew, what do you think the deal is with Skylar Samuels?
[15:29] Conor: You knew that I had a headcanon about what happened with Skylar Samuels. Skylar Samuels, when you go to her IMDb, she was in like, one episode of "American Horror Story," or like, maybe two or something. And that was before she was cast as the lead on "Scream Queens." And I think that like, Ryan Murphy saw a potential breakthrough star with Skylar Samuels that was like, hey, I'm going to give you this leading role in like, this very massive cast. And she, I think that Ryan just hated her as it went on. That's my headcanon, because she's not in season two. And there didn't even make a reference to it, hardly.
[16:07] Jacob Kyon: And dare I say that Marley was the first Senorita Olsen?
[16:11] Conor: Oh, oh my god. They are the same person.
[16:13] Jacob Kyon: Oh yeah, the flap cap and all.
[16:16] Conor: Yeah, yeah, the newsies cap. They are the same person. When Ryan was writing for Skylar and Melissa, it was the same parts of the brain that were activated.
[16:25] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And Kiki always needs to be in a press tour. That's my thing.
[16:31] Conor: That's, we always need Kiki in a press tour.
[16:35] Jacob Kyon: Who do we think that Kiki was talking about recently?
[16:38] Conor: We know.
[16:39] Jacob Kyon: We know.
[16:40] Conor: It's our, yeah, it's our diva.
[16:42] Jacob Kyon: We do know. It's our diva.
[16:44] Conor: It's our diva.
[16:47] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[16:48] Conor: Yeah, gosh. I just know her publicist, but hey, it was like, get Kiki off this tour.
[16:56] Jacob Kyon: Send Kiki a fruit basket, please.
[16:59] Conor: An edible arrangement.
[17:00] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. Okay, wait, so circling, okay, "Break Free" was how we got here. Okay, on our way. Okay, so my next question, these are my other two, like, I'd say top five. "Unchained Melody," I think that's gone, isn't it?
[17:14] Conor: It is gone. Oh, that, like, lost to, like, "Cry," which, that's messed up.
[17:19] Jacob Kyon: That could be my top three.
[17:20] Conor: No, I'm a crier.
[17:23] Jacob Kyon: I'm a crier, so.
[17:25] Conor: I'm not a crier, really.
[17:27] Jacob Kyon: "Cry" made it to round three, and I want to see her off. I will be there, but I personally want to be that boat that sends her away forever.
[17:35] Conor: Yeah, okay, so do I. "Ain't No Way."
[17:40] Jacob Kyon: It's still here. What about "Ain't No Way?"
[17:43] Conor: I'm just wondering if it's still in the glacier.
[17:45] Jacob Kyon: Okay, okay, yeah. All right, these are my next ones. "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" vs "Hell To The Know."
[17:55] Conor: That was really sad, because I'm a "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" truther.
[18:00] Jacob Kyon: Why are you laughing?
[18:02] Conor: I was like, that was really sad.
[18:07] Jacob Kyon: That was really sad.
[18:09] Conor: That was hard.
[18:11] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend." It is so good. The choreography, the vocals, and anything that Unique and Marley do together, I think is just so good.
[18:20] Conor: They're having so much fun, yeah.
[18:22] Jacob Kyon: "Hell To The Know" is like a parody. I just can't believe people would prefer that.
[18:28] Conor: Yeah, I don't know what to say to that, because I think that now you're really selling me on "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" material, girl. Because I, oh my god, I love both. I love both of these songs. On the day, I was just vibing a little bit more with "Hell To The Know." Maybe I had nostalgia linked with it. It's just an earlier season, unfortunately. But yeah, gosh, sorry about that.
[18:55] Jacob Kyon: That's okay. Conor, do you have any opinions on that?
[18:58] Conor: I mean, I would have voted for "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend." Actually, you see, I feel like with original songs, what happens is often in round two in particular, it comes into the discourse of like, I am voting this through to round three because of the camp of it all, and we need more camp representation. However, as the competition goes further and further and further, I feel like the camp excuse becomes less valid because shit starts to become more real.
[19:31] Jacob Kyon: I was on this podcast, for example, for like a consecutive number of weeks, or at least a semi-consecutive number of weeks. And I think in that time we voted through, let's have a kiki, because of the camp of it all. Then there was like, oh, we're on "Joey Run," we're the camp of it all. It's like, "Hell To The Know," the camp of it all. Do you know what I mean?
[19:50] Conor: I know what you mean.
[19:51] Jacob Kyon: I don't know if I would per se place "Hell To The Know" in camp territory, though.
[19:59] Conor: Would you not? What would you place it in?
[20:01] Jacob Kyon: I understand why you say that. Do I really believe that it's not camp? No, it is camp. Because she rhymes Wheaties with diabetes. That is hilarious. And also there's the, oh my God, they're doing original songs of it all. Of course. I think that with "Hell To The Know," I really like that because it's an original song that I think that you could play in front of non-Gleeks. And I think that people would be like, oh, this is a new song on the radio or something. I think it was just so superbly produced.
[20:37] Conor: Yeah.
[20:38] Jacob Kyon: Is the way I feel. I will say it's better than "Shaking My Head," which was in the Season 5 original song.
[20:46] Conor: Right.
[20:47] Jacob Kyon: But I think "Shaking My Head" will have its day in the sun, eventually, just not in the Glockett.
[20:53] Conor: Yeah.
[20:55] Jacob Kyon: Somewhere else.
[20:56] Conor: Somewhere else, just not here.
[20:58] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. Now I've got "Every Breath We Take" versus "We Got Tonight," but then I've also got "We Got Tonight" versus "Thriller." So who was the real battle?
[21:05] Conor: "We Got Tonight" versus "Thriller" did not happen.
[21:11] Jacob Kyon: Okay. I don't know why I've got that written down. I'm such a "We Got Tonight" girly. The fact that it starts off Rachel and Finn and then just the bridge of the song is all the couples and the storylines come together. I just think it's so good. Marley's high note on that conversation.
[21:32] Conor: "We've Got Tonight" "Thriller" did happen in round two, but "Oh, We've Got Tonight" versus "Every Breath You Take" happened in round one. So both are true.
[21:41] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[21:42] Conor: Oh, okay.
[21:44] Jacob Kyon: Did I not vote "We've Got Tonight" through? Was I in that episode?
[21:47] Conor: No.
[21:47] Jacob Kyon: So "We Got Tonight" "Thriller."
[21:49] Conor: Oh, so.
[21:50] Jacob Kyon: Oh, okay. Okay. I know what you mean. So hard competitions. "Every Breath You Take," "We Got Tonight." That is really hard for me. That's one of the most painful ones.
[21:59] Conor: Oh, I love "Every Breath You Take."
[22:01] Jacob Kyon: So do I. For whatever reason, it's divisive. I feel.
[22:04] Conor: I don't know.
[22:05] Jacob Kyon: Really? I just think it's that girl. Like, it's one of the best. That's the best Pesbary duet, without a doubt.
[22:12] Conor: Yeah.
[22:13] Jacob Kyon: Perfect. I would go on record to say that as well.
[22:16] Conor: No, it's not.
[22:18] Jacob Kyon: Okay. So emotional is.
[22:21] Conor: Are you fucking stupid?
[22:24] Jacob Kyon: I like so emotional, but no, I'm a "Every Breath You Take."
[22:28] Conor: No, that is not. That's a Tepid Take.
[22:32] Jacob Kyon: Tepid Take? I think that's dependent on the day for me. I think "Every Breath You Take." I mean, they offer two different things, right?
[22:41] Conor: Right.
[22:41] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. Conor's mad at me.
[22:47] Conor: I'm not mad. I am judging. I am judging.
[22:51] Jacob Kyon: And then I'll do a quick fire round of the last ones. I've got "I Want To Dance With Somebody," "No Ear."
[22:55] Conor: I obviously prefer "Dance With Somebody."
[22:58] Jacob Kyon: "New York State Of Mind," "Cold Hearted."
[23:00] Conor: "New York State Of Mind" should have gone through.
[23:02] Jacob Kyon: "Bills, Bills, Bills."
[23:03] Conor: It did.
[23:04] Jacob Kyon: Oh, why do I have these written down then? I'm so sorry.
[23:07] Conor: Did you have a stroke while writing this?
[23:09] Jacob Kyon: No, no, no. I think I did. You downloaded the Glackett from the dark web.
[23:15] Conor: It's like an alternate universe, right?
[23:18] Jacob Kyon: "Bills, Bills, Bills," "What Doesn't Kill You."
[23:20] Conor: And "Bills, Bills, Bills" went through, right?
[23:22] Jacob Kyon: "Bills, Bills, Bills" went through. I was the only vote for "Stronger."
[23:25] Conor: I would have preferred.
[23:26] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, I would have preferred "Stronger." "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee." Both the reprise and the original didn't go through.
[23:30] Conor: Cut.
[23:35] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. Which is really, really sad because "Gleece" is one of my favorite episodes, but that's all right. And then this is a hot take, which I don't think anyone will agree with me, but "Outcast" vs. "Bitch." I love "Outcast." And I would even go on record to say that "Outcast."
[23:50] Conor: The season four through line is really going crazy right now. How much of season four do we have left in this round? Because now I'm like, I feel like I know where Jacob's going to be voting automatically if a season four song comes up.
[24:03] Jacob Kyon: It needs to be studied, like why I like season four so much. And I don't know if it's because...
[24:07] Conor: The music in season four is amazing.
[24:11] Jacob Kyon: There is some great music. But then I even prefer, and I'm a self-aware guy, like I realize that this is, I'm the minority, but I prefer the newbies to the original group.
[24:21] Conor: Oh, that's so crazy to say.
[24:23] Jacob Kyon: It's bizarre. It's bizarre. I just, I don't know if it's because Marley, Jake, Ryder, Unique and Kitty were all exactly my age when I was watching it at high school. I don't know if it's that or what it is, but it was my peak being into Glee. Prefer that Glee club. Just really, really love them. And I was like distraught when they didn't come back for season six.
[24:47] Conor: Yeah.
[24:48] Jacob Kyon: Only Kitty came back. But would, was Kitty the choice for you of the season four to come back?
[24:54] Conor: No, it would have, it would have been Marley or Jake.
[24:58] Jacob Kyon: Oh, I will say I have grown. So I'm rewatching with, and that's what you really misnamed drop with Kevin and Jenna. I'm rewatching the show and I do have a certain love, admiration and appreciation for Marley that I feel like I've never had up until this most recent rewatch. Maybe it's because I'm so in love with Melissa as well. She's so great. Like she wasn't given much, but she made it work. Her voice is beautiful. And then some of her more dramatic scenes, particularly with her mother, like really hit for me. I really loved that. It's just that they made her into such a Mary Sue that I was just like, most people just can't get on board, you know?
[25:44] Conor: Yeah.
[25:45] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. I feel for Melissa. She started off so strong.
[25:48] Conor: She did start off as so strong. I always think that with the whole fat mom storyline in season four, it would have been really interesting if she was this girl that presented as really nice and cutesy and adorable to the outside world, but like who on the other side was actually genuinely embarrassed to have her mother as her mother, because then it would have been like, oh, now there is a little bit of edge. Do I like this girl or not?
[26:11] Conor: Oh.
[26:12] Jacob Kyon: They made her into a, like, just kind of comically charitable person.
[26:21] Conor: Yeah.
[26:22] Jacob Kyon: In line with everything that you're saying is Marley's famous dry erase board in her locker that every time she opens her locker, do you know what I'm talking about? It has a whiteboard that says, "I heart my mom." And I'm like, girl, you're a parody of yourself. Girl, you're so down bad for your mom. You're asking to be bullied.
[26:43] Conor: You love your mom a little bit too much.
[26:44] Jacob Kyon: Okay. I'm getting concerned.
[26:46] Conor: Yeah.
[26:48] Jacob Kyon: I do agree. Like with her character, if we're talking storylines, they could have done way more. If that less of the, they'd gone less with the love triangle storyline and more like about her, you know, gaining confidence and wanting to be a singer on the radio because they did touch on that. I think that would have been more interesting or like the dynamic between her and Kitty. I don't know, something else.
[27:14] Conor: So true. Because the timber of her voice is so, the timber of her voice, I feel like is so unique. Like it's not particularly a musical theater voice, but it is, but it's also not particularly a pop voice, but it is. Does that make sense?
[27:28] Jacob Kyon: Oh yeah. Of course. She also belts one of the highest notes on Glee in "Some Nights" and it's just crazy. It's so good.
[27:37] Conor: Oh yeah. She eats that up. I love those videos where it's like the highest notes reached by each character or each season, whatever. It's like, oh, those are great.
[27:46] Jacob Kyon: What is the highest note? Alex Newell, "I Know Where I've Been."
[27:49] Conor: I think Amber Riley, "Jump."
[27:50] Jacob Kyon: We discussed this.
[27:51] Conor: Yeah.
[27:53] Jacob Kyon: I think you're right. I think it's Amber Riley, "Jump."
[27:56] Conor: Yeah, but Alex Newell, "I Know Where I've Been" is definitely up there as well.
[28:01] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. Anything else on your list, Jacob?
[28:06] Jacob Kyon: I think I've got just a couple more. Oh, here comes the...
[28:10] Jacob Kyon: I've just got sad faces beside these ones. "Here Comes the Sun." I was really sad about that. "You're the One That I Want." I was really sad about that.
[28:18] Conor: "Here Comes the Sun" is living to see another day.
[28:23] Jacob Kyon: The Dark Web Glackett that you have is really doing you dirty right now.
[28:28] Conor: I don't want to set you off. I'm so embarrassed.
[28:31] Jacob Kyon: No, this is me watching it and I write down the competitions and if I'm happy with it or not and then I'm like, oh my gosh. No, it's completely fine because I think that I'm a freak and I know everything about, most things about what happens with the Glackett.
[28:44] Jacob Kyon: I'm not disappointed though, that's got me really excited that "Here Comes the Sun" is so good. Like, "Here Comes the Sun" would be top 10 Glee songs for me.
[28:54] Jacob Kyon: "Here Comes the Sun" was against "Express Yourself" and Conor, you and I and Matt's episode.
[29:02] Jacob Kyon: It was Matt and then "Express Yourself" was voted back in, so both songs are still.
[29:07] Conor: Oh, okay, okay, okay, good. And then my last one is "Let Me Love You" versus "Jukebox Hero."
[29:14] Jacob Kyon: And "Jukebox Hero" went through and then died in round two.
[29:18] Conor: So, who would prefer "Jukebox Hero" over "Let Me Love You?"
[29:22] Jacob Kyon: That's, yeah, that is, that is crazy.
[29:24] Jacob Kyon: And it's the Jake version as well, the Jolo.
[29:27] Conor: Okay, I'm gonna say this, you're talking about Amelia's episode in round one, so not too much, because Amelia is out here supporting the Gleeks with the Glackett every single week.
[29:38] Jacob Kyon: And so Amelia and Alison both voted for "Jukebox Hero," I was the sole vote for "Let Me Love You."
[29:44] Conor: That's so upsetting.
[29:45] Jacob Kyon: Sorry about that. You know, we're aligned, yeah.
[29:51] Conor: Yeah, okay. Well, you know, I just think it's the best Jolo.
[29:56] Jacob Kyon: One of the only Jolos, but the best.
[30:00] Conor: Yeah, I don't think we have any Jolos, Jake-olos, what are we calling them?
[30:06] Jacob Kyon: Jake, oh, Jake-olos.
[30:08] Conor: In round three, I think that "Nasty" and "Rhythm Nation" will absolutely get him the furthest.
[30:13] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[30:14] Conor: Oh, okay, yeah.
[30:15] Jacob Kyon: And it's not really a solo, though, is it?
[30:18] Conor: Right, well, we got, we got, uh, what's her name?
[30:21] Jacob Kyon: You nasty boy!
[30:22] Conor: Yeah.
[30:23] Jacob Kyon: Bree, I, like, justice for Bree, I think Bree's voice is so good.
[30:29] Conor: Yeah, oh, it's, I was getting excited when they introduced her at the beginning of season five, I was like, oh, I cannot wait until she sets foot in that Glee club and becomes one of, like, a Glee club member, but that day never came.
[30:41] Jacob Kyon: And obviously, because you and I, Andrew, were Glee Club Brazil's number one fans, so we knew long before.
[30:48] Conor: They were, they were feeding us, yeah.
[30:52] Jacob Kyon: I still really would love you to get one of the Glee Club Brazil people on the podcast somehow.
[30:58] Conor: They have to be a, do you know what we're talking about, Connor?
[31:00] Conor: Glee Club Brazil?
[31:01] Jacob Kyon: Yes.
[31:02] Conor: Yeah, of course.
[31:03] Jacob Kyon: I think that it was, like, a production system.
[31:03] Conor: Connor was a part of it.
[31:05] Jacob Kyon: It was, it was actually me.
[31:06] Conor: That's me.
[31:07] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[31:08] Conor: You have Glee Club Brazil on the podcast right now.
[31:10] Jacob Kyon: I feel like Glee Club Ireland was just too on the nose, you know.
[31:14] Conor: I get that, I get that.
[31:16] Jacob Kyon: I think it was a production assistant that was just being messy.
[31:20] Conor: Oh, really?
[31:21] Jacob Kyon: Wait, how do you know that?
[31:23] Conor: I don't know that, that's my, that's how I feel.
[31:26] Jacob Kyon: It needs to be someone that was, that was close to production.
[31:32] Conor: They started doing, like, Taylor Swift Easter eggs before it was a thing.
[31:36] Jacob Kyon: Like, those little things they would wear.
[31:38] Conor: It's definitely the same person as Diana Agron Updates.
[31:41] Jacob Kyon: That's, that's my headcanon.
[31:43] Conor: Diana Agron Updates, I miss you every day.
[31:45] Jacob Kyon: I hope that you're enjoying your retirement.
[31:47] Conor: She's gone into retirement and I, I still have a theory that Diana Agron Updates was, like, a piece of performance art set up to actually drag the celebrity that it purports to be reporting, supporting, because every single tweet was just a drag about Diana.
[32:08] Jacob Kyon: It's like she hasn't worked in a while.
[32:11] Conor: Well, I was, like, very flattered to be, to be mentioned by Diana Agron Updates.
[32:20] Jacob Kyon: Connor, you and I, when we talked to Robert, and Diana Agron Updates was, like, in a recent interview with Glee casting director Robert Ulrich, Robert revealed that he, like, continuously offers Diana stuff, but she always declines.
[32:35] Conor: And I'm just, like, that is so funny that, that this is, this is print media.
[32:40] Jacob Kyon: People have, this is, this is bad news.
[32:42] Conor: And the two of us, the two of us, when Robert, Robert said in that episode, he was, like, yeah, yeah, I've offered Diana a few things.
[32:50] Jacob Kyon: She never takes it.
[32:51] Conor: And me and Andrew literally laughed out loud.
[32:53] Jacob Kyon: I know.
[32:56] Conor: It's so...
[32:57] Jacob Kyon: We couldn't not, you know.
[32:59] Conor: She's, Diana, she's just too busy doing wherever, wherever the wind takes that girl.
[33:05] Jacob Kyon: She's crazy.
[33:05] Conor: Yeah, yeah.
[33:06] Jacob Kyon: Love her so bad.
[33:07] Conor: Um, wait, so before we get into your hot takes, Connor, are we, are we done, Jacob?
[33:14] Jacob Kyon: Do we have any further ones?
[33:14] Conor: We're done, we're done.
[33:15] Jacob Kyon: No, that's all.
[33:17] Conor: I hope I didn't offend anybody.
[33:19] Jacob Kyon: Oh my gosh, no, I, I need to know your, your Glackett supplier.
[33:23] Conor: I know that they, uh...
[33:25] Jacob Kyon: Oh, I know.
[33:27] Conor: Unfortunately, it's just me.
[33:29] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, yeah.
[33:30] Conor: Unfortunately, I'm the one writing them down, so I don't know what happened there, but I'm not mad about it.
[33:34] Jacob Kyon: Like, the fact that those ones that I was so destroyed about, I've been losing sleep over them for months, and, and I didn't need to because they're still in the, in the Glackett, so.
[33:42] Conor: They're still around, yeah.
[33:44] Conor: Um, Connor, how many, it's been a few episodes.
[33:48] Jacob Kyon: Anything happen that you're not happy about?
[33:50] Conor: It's been a few weeks.
[33:51] Jacob Kyon: It's been a few weeks.
[33:52] Conor: Putting on glasses.
[33:53] Jacob Kyon: Oh, the glasses are coming on.
[33:54] Conor: It's getting serious.
[33:56] Conor: Um, okay.
[33:59] Conor: I think I would have voted for "One of Us" over "For Good."
[34:07] Conor: And I understand why "For Good" went through.
[34:10] Conor: I understand it's the, one of the emotional centerpieces of the show.
[34:13] Conor: It's such a come-by-all moment for those two characters.
[34:16] Conor: It's emotional, I get it.
[34:18] Conor: I just hate that fucking cover.
[34:21] Conor: And I hate the mp4 of it more than I hate the mp3.
[34:26] Conor: I will give it that.
[34:27] Conor: The cut, the cuts in that song, I think are, is probably one of the most egregious examples of cutting in Glee.
[34:35] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, yeah.
[34:37] Conor: Like, it's so, it just completely took the emotionality out of it.
[34:41] Conor: And because the unlimited, where, unlimited part, it's like acapella, when it's in a studio, you can really, like, the auto-tune in the production, it just, it was too much.
[34:53] Conor: And then the key chain in the middle, the key chain?
[34:55] Jacob Kyon: The key change in the middle with Leah going up the octave, I was like, this is just, I can't cope with that.
[35:02] Conor: Wait, so does that not happen in the, sorry, question, does that not happen in the original when she, the key change?
[35:06] Jacob Kyon: No, it goes up again.
[35:10] Jacob Kyon: I think, I think Leah literally goes up the octave.
[35:13] Conor: Oh, okay.
[35:13] Jacob Kyon: I think it's like, I think it, I may be wrong.
[35:18] Conor: Someone check the tape.
[35:18] Jacob Kyon: Because I'm not too familiar, I'm not too familiar with the original, so I only know the Glee vision.
[35:25] Conor: Yeah, like, I don't hate it.
[35:27] Conor: Like, it's not even probably a skip for me, but like, I don't know.
[35:33] Conor: There's something so simple about that song, about "For Good," that is just like, leave it where it is.
[35:40] Conor: And then I came to the conclusion, and I should have come to this conclusion years ago, and this is just how stupid I am, that every single Wicked song on this show is just shit.
[35:49] Jacob Kyon: Sorry, I'm just going to say it.
[35:50] Conor: No, that's so valid.
[35:53] Jacob Kyon: Of course, what is the best out of a bad bunch?
[35:56] Conor: Oh, yeah.
[35:57] Conor: I mean, Amber Riley, "Defying Gravity," "Beautiful Girl."
[36:01] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, what I was so frustrated with, when they re-did "Defying Gravity," and it was announced that that was what they were going to be singing, I was so hoping that they would just do the original version, like the non-pop version.
[36:12] Conor: And they didn't.
[36:16] Jacob Kyon: And not only did they not do it, they cut out the best part, which was the high note at the end.
[36:21] Conor: And it was just so bizarre.
[36:23] Jacob Kyon: I don't know if I...
[36:24] Conor: I must have discovered this when it first debuted in 2021, I believe, but it was the Wicked anniversary something.
[36:30] Jacob Kyon: It was during COVID, and Amber was selected to sing "Defying Gravity" for this.
[36:42] Conor: It was a televised event.
[36:44] Jacob Kyon: And I must have watched it initially, but I re-watched it recently, and it was completely new.
[36:50] Jacob Kyon: And it's so good.
[36:52] Conor: The things that she does, and it's not that bastardized version of "Defying Gravity" that we got twice in the Hitbox show.
[37:02] Jacob Kyon: What she does is so, so special.
[37:04] Conor: I'll include it in the carousel.
[37:05] Jacob Kyon: It's like, you will be changed for good.
[37:09] Conor: Yeah, which is interesting, because I feel like for "One of Us," am I wrong?
[37:18] Conor: I feel like not a lot of people are talking about "One of Us."
[37:22] Jacob Kyon: What do you want to say about her?
[37:24] Conor: I just think it's a really gorgeous group number.
[37:27] Conor: So many people have their time to shine.
[37:29] Conor: Lia's belt on it is gorgeous.
[37:31] Jacob Kyon: You obviously have Amber doing her thing.
[37:33] Conor: Jenna gets her own little bit.
[37:36] Conor: There's obviously the emotionality of it all.
[37:38] Jacob Kyon: I think in the episode, it's a little bit short.
[37:41] Conor: It's very short, yeah.
[37:43] Jacob Kyon: It's very short.
[37:44] Conor: And I think there's, I remember distinctly that there's like a really big editing flaw or something.
[37:49] Conor: I think there's a camera lingers on, a camera lingers on an actor when their mouth is not open or something like that.
[37:57] Jacob Kyon: Which I only just noticed in "Gloria" there yesterday when I was watching, or this morning, actually on the flight home from Prague, I was watching, I was watching "Trio" because I'm catching up with them.
[38:09] Conor: That's what you really missed.
[38:10] Jacob Kyon: And there's a shot on Lia where her mouth is just completely closed and it just takes me out of it.
[38:15] Conor: That's how gay we are, that we both know exactly.
[38:19] Jacob Kyon: Oh, I know.
[38:20] Conor: And the face that she's serving, yeah.
[38:24] Jacob Kyon: She's literally like.
[38:26] Conor: Audio medium.
[38:27] Jacob Kyon: How would you describe?
[38:28] Conor: Like audio medium statue, like audio medium Petrificus Totalus freeze frame from Harry Potter when you get petrified.
[38:35] Jacob Kyon: Yes, statues.
[38:40] Conor: Yeah.
[38:40] Jacob Kyon: So good for her, I suppose.
[38:43] Conor: But yeah, I think I would stream "One of Us" more.
[38:46] Jacob Kyon: Is it my top 50?
[38:47] Conor: No, but I think that's where I fall on that debate.
[38:51] Jacob Kyon: Now, I did have a look at the Glackett in the airport and every other competition I'm fine with.
[38:57] Conor: However, last week's episode with Matt and Paddy, I have not finished the episode.
[39:03] Jacob Kyon: So I've just got to the point where "Happy Days Are Here Again" has been pulled on.
[39:07] Conor: "Happy Days Are Here Again" is infamously one of my favourite songs of the episode.
[39:11] Jacob Kyon: So, Andrew, maybe you can tell me what it was against.
[39:14] Conor: Oh, well, I revealed earlier in this conversation that "Break Free" was in last week's episode.
[39:21] Jacob Kyon: I think that I said that.
[39:22] Conor: Oh, OK.
[39:24] Conor: So it was against "Break Free."
[39:26] Conor: And as much as I'm turning a leaf with "Break Free," obviously it doesn't hold a candle to "Happy Days."
[39:33] Jacob Kyon: Then I'm good.
[39:34] Conor: Then I'm good, because I was a bit worried because the discourse had just started where Matt was like, it's not really doing anything emotional for me.
[39:40] Jacob Kyon: And I'm like, Matt, we're not going to go here.
[39:42] Conor: If the next song is a big hitter, we're going to have a falling out.
[39:45] Jacob Kyon: Matt did vote for "Break Free."
[39:48] Conor: Anyway, so...
[39:49] Jacob Kyon: Matt had three for three of, you know, being the, you know, what do you call it?
[39:56] Conor: Oh my God, why am I blanking on the word?
[39:58] Jacob Kyon: A pity vote.
[40:01] Conor: OK, well, that's pretty much me.
[40:05] Jacob Kyon: That's me, Don.
[40:06] Conor: Oh, amazing.
[40:08] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, I've been very happy with the competitions lately.
[40:12] Conor: Don't really like the Rolo versus Rolo, but all stressful situation for everyone involved.
[40:17] Jacob Kyon: Don't get me wrong.
[40:18] Conor: I do ultimately think that "Don't Rain on My Parade" was the best decision.
[40:22] Jacob Kyon: I really loved what you said, Andrew, about the journey being a lot more powerful than the destination, which was really where we are in the discourse around the show.
[40:36] Conor: So I'm excited.
[40:37] Jacob Kyon: I am nervous because we still have some big hitters left, but I'm raring to go.
[40:44] Conor: Jacob, what are we manifesting?
[40:47] Jacob Kyon: I would assume you're going to say season four.
[40:50] Conor: Oh, yeah, of course, season four.
[40:51] Jacob Kyon: But what is Lyft?
[40:54] Conor: Do you have...
[40:55] Jacob Kyon: Oh, I do have an updated playlist.
[40:59] Jacob Kyon: Let me...
[41:02] Jacob Kyon: OK, so we have 24 songs left on the playlist.
[41:06] Conor: Oh, my God.
[41:07] Jacob Kyon: That is so much less than I thought it was going to be.
[41:09] Conor: Yeah, that's crazy.
[41:12] Jacob Kyon: Um, Brie messaged me the other day and she brought up that a nightmare competition that is still possible of happening is having the two Artolos left in the cup.
[41:21] Conor: "Isn't She Lovely" and "PYT" up against each other?
[41:24] Jacob Kyon: Both, like, I would say A-S tier Artolos.
[41:31] Conor: And I would like to get both of them into round three.
[41:36] Jacob Kyon: I think that if it was for me personally, I'm choosing "PYT."
[41:39] Conor: See, I think Arty's best solo is "For Once in My Life."
[41:44] Jacob Kyon: Is that through?
[41:45] Conor: Oh, that's gone.
[41:46] Jacob Kyon: That was gone in round one, unfortunately.
[41:48] Conor: Yeah.
[41:48] Jacob Kyon: Well, sorry.
[41:51] Conor: I know, I agree.
[41:52] Jacob Kyon: "For Once in My Life" is the best Artolo.
[41:55] Conor: Oh, no.
[41:56] Jacob Kyon: Never Going Back Again is.
[41:57] Conor: It's between those two for me.
[41:58] Jacob Kyon: Right.
[41:59] Conor: "Never Going Back Again," but then "For Once in My Life," in my opinion.
[42:04] Jacob Kyon: So we have, let's see, let me see if I can sort this by...
[42:08] Conor: Yes, release date.
[42:10] Jacob Kyon: So I can tell you what four ones I have.
[42:14] Jacob Kyon: We only have two season four songs left.
[42:19] Conor: And they are "Whistle" and "Nutbush City Limits."
[42:24] Jacob Kyon: Not "Whistle."
[42:28] Conor: Wow, that's crazy when you look at it like that.
[42:31] Jacob Kyon: That is crazy.
[42:32] Conor: And it's just really bizarre as well.
[42:34] Jacob Kyon: I would love to know the science behind every single Gleek is so passionate about what songs they like, and there's no right or wrong answer, but every single person has an opinion. Every single person. You can't change that opinion a lot of the time. And I wonder why. Why we think like this.
[42:50] Conor: Yeah.
[42:52] Jacob Kyon: Why are humans like this? Why are Gleeks like this, more importantly? I will say that, looking at it, it's mostly season two that we have left. And then there's like... Huh. Let me just do it by the numbers real quick. Is there any season five? So there's five season one. There's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight season two, three season three, two season four, five season five, and one season six.
[43:24] Conor: Okay.
[43:25] Jacob Kyon: Okay. What's the season six one?
[43:28] Conor: It's the Jane and Mason duet from Jagged Little Tabby.
[43:32] Jacob Kyon: We love her. Favorite.
[43:34] Conor: Yes.
[43:35] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. We love her. Rooting for her. Anything else to say before we pull song number one?
[43:41] Conor: I love everyone, and I love all the Gleeks.
[43:44] Jacob Kyon: I love all the Gleeks so much, and I hope that they know that. I am scared. I'm not even going to say it out loud. There is a competition that could happen that is worse than the Artolo versus Artolo.
[43:54] Conor: I don't want that to happen.
[43:56] Jacob Kyon: So.
[43:57] Conor: Okay.
[43:58] Jacob Kyon: Oh! That's the one I just referenced, but we're looking at an Artolo versus Artolo, potentially, with this first song. Boom! You know what it is?
[44:12] Conor: Yeah.
[44:13] Jacob Kyon: It's PYT.
[44:14] Conor: PYT.
[44:15] Jacob Kyon: It is. You know you, you make me feel so good inside. I always wanted a girl just like you. Such a PYT. Pretty young thing.
[44:20] Conor: Oh! Where did you come from, baby, and oh, won't you take me there right away, won't you, baby?
[44:37] Jacob Kyon: Tenderoni, you've got to be, spark my nature, sugar, fly with me. Don't you know now is the perfect time? We can make it right, hit the city lights, then tonight, easy love and pain, let me take you to the max. I want to love you, P-Y-T, pretty young thing, you need some loving, T-L-E, tender love and care, and I'll take you there, yeah, ooh, I want to love you, P-Y-T, pretty young thing, you need some loving, T-L-E, tender love and care, and I'll take you there, ooh, ooh, ooh, pretty young thing, ooh, make me feel so, ha, ha, ha, ha, pretty young things, repeat after me, sing na-na-na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, sing na-na-na, na-na-na, na-na-na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na, I'll take you there, ooh, ooh, P-Y-T, oh, baby, T-L-E, oh, baby.
[46:03] Conor: That's my man, this look don't work.
[46:06] Jacob Kyon: Get the roadie!
[46:07] Conor: Really just ending the performance with two of the most chaotic lines. Um, okay, who wants to begin the discourse on P-Y-T, parenthesis, pretty young thing, Gleecast version, by the Gleecast?
[46:18] Jacob Kyon: Oh! R.I.T.'s, ooh!
[46:20] Conor: Ooh!
[46:21] Jacob Kyon: Okay. Ooh! Um, what was that?
[46:26] Conor: And, um, what was that?
[46:28] Jacob Kyon: That, that was so weird, you guys, that definitely wasn't me, you guys. Um, what was that?
[46:36] Conor: Uh, R.I.T.'s laugh after, you make me feel so good inside, is giving, is giving Thongsong Mr. Shoe, you know, guys.
[46:50] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, I feel like there's some, we need to talk about that. Um, Mike Shine has always been that guy, just kind of, like, just going down the hallway, with, school hallway, with Arty, like, pushing his wheelchair, just being a nice guy, popping and locking, giving it that, the Apple commercial dance vibes that Harry Shum is so infamous for.
[47:15] Conor: Um, oh, oh, shout out to my favourite, my favourite duo on this show, the absolutely iconic Britney S. Pearce, joined by the absolutely legendary Tina Cohn-Chang.
[47:29] Jacob Kyon: These two girlies together just do something to my soul, you know, whether it be in Spotlight, whether it be, um.
[47:37] Conor: I'm not going to teach your boyfriend how to dance with you.
[47:39] Jacob Kyon: I'm not going to teach your boyfriend how to dance with you. Now, I do love Tina, Tina Cohn-Chang.
[47:43] Conor: Love you like a love song, sorry, continue.
[47:44] Jacob Kyon: Love you like a love song. I do love Tina Cohn-Chang and Mercedes in the infamous Take a Bow. However, Tina Brittany, they're really doing something for me.
[47:52] Conor: And Tina in her Blue Streak era, I think is my favourite Tina.
[47:57] Jacob Kyon: She's Blue Streak Tina sans stutter, which there's a lot of character development going on there.
[48:04] Conor: For sure.
[48:05] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, yeah, yeah. With her one line preface in. Conor, I just have to say, you did terrify me then when you said that you're like, you love the pairing of, and you said Brittany, and I thought you were going to say Artie, but thank God you didn't, because I just don't like them together.
[48:20] Conor: And I didn't.
[48:21] Jacob Kyon: But do you know what? There's definitely people, there are gleeks out listening to this who are sociopaths, who do fall in that category.
[48:27] Conor: OK, can I say something?
[48:31] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, I mean, I suppose.
[48:34] Conor: Brittany and Artie, just before we go any further, Brittany and Artie, absolutely. I know that like Kevin, there was like a PeleFest like thing where he was like, I get death threats from the Britannia fans.
[48:46] Jacob Kyon: And I wouldn't say that like I wasn't like engaging with the actors while the series was on. I wasn't I wasn't doing all that. But I was definitely mad at the Brittany and Artie pairing.
[48:58] Conor: Upon rewatch, Brittany and Artie make sense to me as a pair.
[49:04] Jacob Kyon: And I think that they are like very fun together. And I think that like, and I mean, obviously, Britannia through and through for me.
[49:13] Conor: But I think that like it, Bartie, which is such a disgusting ship name.
[49:20] Jacob Kyon: I think it's really sexy, personally.
[49:22] Conor: OK, we're not agreeing on anything.
[49:25] Jacob Kyon: I think they're just like they did a layup for Britannia. So I need to like thank them.
[49:31] Conor: Yeah, I know what I know what you're cooking.
[49:34] Jacob Kyon: And I'm curious to taste it because I feel like that opinion is exactly like, do you know what that opinion is in the same font of? Coming to the realisation that Finn is actually a character that we love more than we thought we did.
[49:46] Conor: Yes.
[49:48] Jacob Kyon: You know what I mean? I think that's I think that's more powerful than Bartie.
[49:52] Conor: But yeah.
[49:53] Jacob Kyon: No, but you know what I mean? You know what I mean? It's on the spectrum.
[49:57] Conor: Yeah.
[49:58] Jacob Kyon: I'm like you, Andrew. I'm a Britannia shipper through and through.
[50:01] Conor: I would.
[50:02] Jacob Kyon: But I don't.
[50:03] Conor: I like them with other people as well.
[50:05] Jacob Kyon: I love Santana and Danny together.
[50:07] Conor: And if Brittany was I loved Brittany and Sam together.
[50:10] Jacob Kyon: I love Artie and Kitty together.
[50:13] Conor: Mm hmm.
[50:14] Jacob Kyon: I love Artie and Kitty together. Artie and Kitty together are fun.
[50:17] Conor: Not as fun as Brittany and Artie, I think.
[50:19] Jacob Kyon: See, Brittany and Artie. It's just I just honestly think that they just went two characters who put them together. It didn't make sense to me. I didn't like it. It wasn't groundbreaking.
[50:31] Conor: See, Artie and Kitty I like, but this show has got this trend of like the woman in the relationship going out of the way for the man just for like the man to shut them down.
[50:41] Jacob Kyon: A la Tina Cohn-Chan going out of her way for Mike Chang.
[50:46] Conor: To apply for colleges on his behalf just to be shut down when he's like, this is Rachel's moment, bitch.
[50:52] Jacob Kyon: And then also Kitty going behind Artie's back and talking to his mother about the fact that she wants to go to New York.
[51:01] Conor: Get a job.
[51:02] Jacob Kyon: Like, yeah. Why are we doing this? Ryder sending in Mali's original song.
[51:07] Conor: That was another example.
[51:08] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[51:09] Conor: Sending in Mali's original song to the radio station.
[51:11] Jacob Kyon: Oh, I forgot about that. I do want to say from like an acting production perspective, one of the most one of my favorite Heather Morris scenes is and I'm going to say something I've never seen on set in this podcast. I love Heather so much. Brittany is a character that wanes on me often because I think and it's purely from a writing perspective. I think she started off as this absolutely iconic character that would say a quip every now and then. And then she started to get more of a storyline with Britannia, which we all love, obviously. But as the series goes on, the stupidity, it's not funny for me anymore.
[51:47] Conor: And I'm like, OK, we get it.
[51:50] Jacob Kyon: You're supposed to be dumb and stupid. It's funny. But it's this constant attack of like, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. That I'm just like, I don't.
[51:59] Conor: So I was making a point there and now I forgot the point.
[52:02] Jacob Kyon: I have a little bit of a response.
[52:05] Conor: OK, go.
[52:06] Jacob Kyon: Oh, no. If it comes to you, you can absolutely cut me off.
[52:11] Conor: Brittany, the dumb writing for Brittany in season one, season two, I think that when they come back after season three, the dumbness, it lost the glee writing of it.
[52:23] Jacob Kyon: It's no longer specifically stupid.
[52:26] Conor: It's more just generally stupid.
[52:28] Jacob Kyon: Generally stupid.
[52:29] Conor: Yeah.
[52:30] Jacob Kyon: They do the same thing with Sam.
[52:31] Conor: I think I have something to say about that as well.
[52:36] Jacob Kyon: I think if they had let more into the neurodivergent side of Brittany and have her be a representation rather than just be this ditzy.
[52:45] Conor: Like I remember in the Glee movie, there was that girl who had autism and she was talking about.
[52:54] Jacob Kyon: Yes.
[52:56] Conor: Yeah.
[52:57] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. Queen. We love her.
[53:01] Conor: If they let more into that, I think it would have been good rather than.
[53:02] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, exactly. The stupidity just went too far.
[53:04] Conor: Yeah.
[53:06] Jacob Kyon: What was that about?
[53:07] Conor: What was that?
[53:08] Jacob Kyon: The most egregious one to me is in Michael when Santana says, I've definitely brought this up before, Santana says, Brittany, lock the door. And Brittany says, I don't know how. And I'm like, okay, I think we've really lost it at this point.
[53:22] Conor: Like what?
[53:23] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[53:24] Conor: Yeah.
[53:25] Jacob Kyon: Like that's not even funny.
[53:26] Conor: Yeah.
[53:27] Jacob Kyon: It's too much.
[53:28] Conor: But I remember my point.
[53:29] Jacob Kyon: So, so what I was saying about like, you know, my frustration with the character of Brittany, which I do feel like just a lot of people would be really on a really unpopular opinion. And the RIT Brittany relationship yields something very fun for me.
[53:43] Conor: And it is one of the best Heather moment, Heather Morris moments, I think, in the entire series in which if that's seen outside the locker and she's like, no one, everyone at the school has called me stupid. I never expected you to or whatever.
[53:55] Jacob Kyon: Yes.
[53:56] Conor: That was such a beautiful performance from Heather.
[53:59] Jacob Kyon: I totally agree.
[54:01] Conor: I'm grateful for Barty just for that moment alone.
[54:04] Jacob Kyon: Grateful for Barty.
[54:06] Conor: Yeah.
[54:07] Jacob Kyon: For the never going back of it all, obviously, which I think is lovely.
[54:11] Conor: So that's that on that.
[54:13] Jacob Kyon: Thank you, Barty, for never going back again.
[54:15] Conor: Period.
[54:16] Jacob Kyon: So welcome.
[54:17] Conor: Yeah.
[54:18] Jacob Kyon: Wow. That was really beautiful. I want to, I want to circle back to what you said initially, Conor, about this duo of Brittany and Tina, which I absolutely agree. Like, what a fun pairing.
[54:30] Conor: But like, does nothing unless you have tapes that I don't have access to.
[54:41] Jacob Kyon: What do these girls actually do together? Because like, I was thinking about it the other day, thinking about Glee on my damn walk. And I was like, you know what? If Heather Morris, in alternate universe, Heather Morris doesn't get pregnant.
[54:54] Conor: Heather Morris is still in Glee season five.
[54:57] Jacob Kyon: And Glee season five, they stray away, especially toward like right before 100th episode, they stray away from like Kitty Marley, Ryder, Jake, whatever.
[55:08] Conor: And it's like, it's a lot of like Tina plot, Blaine, Sam, like it's like very senior focus.
[55:13] Jacob Kyon: What if Brittany was there? I want to see a plot line between Brittany and Tina.
[55:18] Conor: So I'm just like, that would have been so fun to see like a Brittany and Tina thing.
[55:22] Jacob Kyon: Like romantically?
[55:23] Conor: No, no, no, not romantically at all.
[55:25] Jacob Kyon: It just feels like weird that they were like the two senior girls in season four.
[55:31] Conor: True.
[55:32] Jacob Kyon: They didn't do anything together.
[55:34] Conor: Do anything.
[55:35] Jacob Kyon: No.
[55:36] Conor: They should have made Tina the school gossip because she is in so many ways.
[55:40] Jacob Kyon: But like I'm talking about evil Tina school gossip.
[55:43] Conor: I wanted to see her with Jacob and Israel.
[55:46] Jacob Kyon: I wanted to see her do a, like she's Jacob and Israel's inside scoop.
[55:52] Conor: Maybe bringing down the Glee Club from within a la Santana and Brittany, etc.
[55:57] Jacob Kyon: I feel like that could have been a lot of fun.
[55:59] Conor: And unfortunately they never leant into it.
[56:02] Jacob Kyon: Jacob and Israel almost took over Tina's role as the McKinley High School gossip.
[56:07] Conor: Basically.
[56:08] Jacob Kyon: That's so fun.
[56:10] Conor: Yeah, it's a lot of fun.
[56:12] Jacob Kyon: I don't know what her reasoning for it would be. Maybe she's just sick of being so poorly treated.
[56:18] Conor: Yeah.
[56:19] Jacob Kyon: Like, I don't know. Cause like they never got to the nitty gritty of Tina.
[56:24] Conor: And I am watching season five at the moment, obviously.
[56:29] Jacob Kyon: And like, Tina, Gal, like, take a seat.
[56:37] Conor: Like, you know, it's, it's too much.
[56:40] Jacob Kyon: It's too much, but also it's not enough.
[56:43] Conor: Like, it's, it's a weird contradiction in terms.
[56:45] Jacob Kyon: I don't know.
[56:47] Jacob Kyon: For whatever reason, I feel like Tina is the character that I spend the most time thinking about. I don't know why. Maybe it's the genre of it all. And I also think it's because there's just no direction with her character. They could have done so much more with her, so you just think of all the things that we missed out on. I will say that, is season 5 Tina's best season?
[57:16] Conor: Well, it depends on what you mean by best. It's the most heavily featured.
[57:22] Jacob Kyon: Oh, would you say season 4 more so though? Because Baby Girl does get three solos that season. That's crazy. Maybe it's just because I'm in the ring of Frenemy's trio episodes. There's a lot there.
[57:34] Conor: Yeah, it's very Tina heavy. And as a side note, I listened to Jumpin' Jumpin' today on the plane and she eats those vocals up. I was kind of like, not that I ever doubted Jenna, but I was like, OK, I was like, this is giving something that I was not expecting it to give. So well done to you.
[57:54] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, that's really great. I will say about this song specifically, or this episode specifically, Silly Love Songs, I feel like this is like a perfect ensemble episode that like PYT, correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't really have any plot surrounding it. I think it has like one quick conversation between Mike and Artie that they're like, hey, we're like two nerds and we're dating with like two of the raddest girls at this school. And then they sing this song and then they don't do anything for the rest of the episode. All four of the characters, I feel. And I feel like that's like a perfectly episode for me that it's like, hey, at the episode end, it's like you can look at everybody that's in the Glee Club and be like, this character did this, this character did this. Like, that's a really good episode for me, you know? So.
[58:40] Conor: Yeah, I agree. And PYT overall, I will say I don't stream it, but I do love him on the song and on the track. I don't stream it. But I think that's also OK.
[58:56] Jacob Kyon: That's OK if I don't stream it, right?
[58:58] Conor: It's OK to not stream PYT, you know? Now somewhere Alexa is screaming at me, but it's OK.
[59:07] Jacob Kyon: It's OK.
[59:08] Conor: Yeah, controversially, I'm not a PYT stan, but I respect it. Do we feel good about her? I mean, obviously, we don't even know what she's against. But we have no idea, obviously. That's the point. But this could really go either way for me, to be honest. I'm like a pendulum on this one.
[59:34] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, this would be a very interesting competition. I know that for certain we have Never Going Back Again in round three. And I feel like there's another Artolo confirmed for round three. Never Going Back Again really is that bitch. So if this wasn't to go through... See, this is the danger with solos of any kind, because it's like, let's think about the representation that they have going forward, which I have been known to fall victim for. I've been known to be like, I'm not voting this Mer Solo through because there's so many other Mer Solos that are going to go through. But then sometimes I'm like, no, Conor, that's a weak argument. So it's, you know, I don't know. That's for me to navigate, I suppose.
[1:00:16] Conor: Do you ever listen back and you're like, what was I saying?
[1:00:19] Jacob Kyon: Every single episode of this podcast I'm on, I listen back and I'm like, what was I saying? Because I need everyone to know that not only are these episodes most of the time comically long, so we are all delirious by the time the episode ends. For me, and I'm not being like, get the tiny violins out. I am also contending with the time difference in which most of the time I am the guest on who's recording the latest in the evening. So I've also lived through a day that I'm like, what am I actually saying? It's almost midnight.
[1:01:11] Conor: December 24th, 9 PM, Eastern Standard Time. I don't even know what my time zone is called.
[1:01:20] Jacob Kyon: GMT? What's that mean?
[1:01:22] Conor: I think that's you.
[1:01:23] Jacob Kyon: Greenwich Mean Time. It is 9:40 PM Greenwich Mean Time on Sunday, January the 20...
[1:01:30] Conor: Yes.
[1:01:31] Jacob Kyon: ...something. Actually, I think it's 9:38, but that's okay.
[1:01:35] Conor: Oh, okay. Okay. I'm getting clocked, literally.
[1:01:41] Conor: I think that it's important to set the score right now. What time zones we're working with right now, because I think that this is probably the most impressive time zone episode we've had yet. So for me, Eastern Standard Time, it is 4:38 PM, Conor.
[1:01:41] Jacob Kyon: I'm actually living in the future. It is the 27th, Monday the 27th, and it is 10:39 AM. So you already know, somehow we're still in January, worldwide. But basically, Jacob already knows the outcome of this cricket competition. He's visiting us from the future.
[1:01:59] Jacob Kyon: Pretty much. Wow. I hope it goes well.
[1:02:01] Conor: I'm sorry, but we will be saying goodbye to PYT.
[1:02:05] Jacob Kyon: No! Don't say that.
[1:02:09] Conor: This is what we should do. This is the bit for the rest of the episode, by the way. This is the bit you have to...
[1:02:12] Jacob Kyon: That Jacob knows it.
[1:02:15] Conor: Yeah. This is kind of... This is a fun competition. Season one, there's a great bit right here at the beginning where it's like, she says, baby, this is for you. Like, what? Oh, gosh.
[1:02:28] Jacob Kyon: Oh my gosh.
[1:02:30] Conor: It's so funny.
[1:02:32] Jacob Kyon: Okay.
[1:02:32] Conor: Here we go.
[1:02:33] Jacob Kyon: Hi, baby. It's your mom. I think this pretty much says it all.
[1:02:38] Jacob Kyon: I dreamed a dream in time gone by
[1:02:48] Jacob Kyon: When hope was high and life worth living
[1:02:55] Jacob Kyon: I dreamed that love would never die
[1:03:02] Jacob Kyon: I dreamed that God would be forgiving
[1:03:08] Jacob Kyon: Then I was young and unafraid
[1:03:17] Jacob Kyon: And dreams were made and used and wasted
[1:03:24] Jacob Kyon: There was no ransom to be paid
[1:03:31] Jacob Kyon: No song unsung, no wine untasted
[1:03:39] Jacob Kyon: But the tigers come at night
[1:03:46] Jacob Kyon: With their voices soft as thunder
[1:03:52] Jacob Kyon: As they tear your hope apart
[1:03:59] Jacob Kyon: As they turn your dream to shame
[1:04:09] Jacob Kyon: And still I dream she'll come to me
[1:04:20] Jacob Kyon: That we will live the years together
[1:04:26] Jacob Kyon: But there are dreams that cannot be
[1:04:33] Jacob Kyon: And there are storms we cannot weather
[1:04:39] Jacob Kyon: But I had a dream my life would be
[1:04:49] Jacob Kyon: So different from this hell I'm living
[1:04:53] Jacob Kyon: So different now from what it seemed
[1:05:01] Jacob Kyon: Your life has killed the dream
[1:05:08] Jacob Kyon: I dreamed
[1:05:19] Conor: Okay, there was a lot here. I do not to air out your business, Jacob, but I did think it was hilarious that you kept on getting up during that performance and walking away from the monitor. What were you doing?
[1:05:30] Jacob Kyon: I'm sorry. It's my... I have a puppy and he was being a little bit of a nuisance. I was just...
[1:05:35] Conor: Oh, no, you're good.
[1:05:36] Jacob Kyon: I was like, huh, he must not like this. He keeps on like sitting down. He's like, huh, maybe not.
[1:05:42] Conor: No, I really... I loved that. I loved... That's one of my favorite Sizzling Moon performances.
[1:05:47] Jacob Kyon: Do you want to start the discourse? Do you have thoughts?
[1:05:49] Conor: Yeah, I have thoughts. I love that arrangement. I love the harmonies. I think they both sound so good. And it was like the first... You know, when Adina Menzel was cast as Rachel Berry's mom, you know, it was just... It was very uncanny. Um, yeah, I just think it's so good.
[1:06:07] Jacob Kyon: And I do agree. It's very memorable that part at the start when it was like...
[1:06:11] Conor: I know. I think this says it all.
[1:06:13] Jacob Kyon: It's your mommy.
[1:06:14] Conor: It's your mom.
[1:06:15] Jacob Kyon: I think this says it all.
[1:06:16] Conor: I think that there's something definitely to be done there. I think there's like a few different options of songs that you could just like place in there. I think that's going to be a good... Next time there's a battle or a competition that I don't agree with, I'm just going to message you and say, Andrew, this is your mom. I think this says it all.
[1:06:33] Jacob Kyon: And I think this says it all.
[1:06:35] Conor: That should have gone through.
[1:06:38] Conor: Um, Jacob, what are you thinking of I Dreamed a Dream?
[1:06:41] Jacob Kyon: Um, what am I thinking about I Dreamed a Dream? Mammoth, mammoth, mammoth, mammoth, mammoth. Like we don't talk enough about how lucky we all were. And like this was... It's just bizarre that Adina Menzel was finally a Michelle's mother on a TV show when we got to hear people like this just sing on the regular.
[1:07:03] Conor: And also famously should have been playing her sister.
[1:07:07] Jacob Kyon: Famously should have been my sister, which was my next note, because I feel like Adina was just really like, I'm going to get on the Lea Michele is a bitch bandwagon in my own way. And I was like, I actually really appreciate that. Thank you, Adina.
[1:07:22] Conor: Um, Peaky Gleeky, Peaky Gleeky, groundbreaking. I'm just going to go on a limb and say it, and I don't give a fuck who is listening. I like all of the Rachel Berry Shelby duets. I like all of them.
[1:07:34] Jacob Kyon: Poker Face, Somewhere, and Next to Me.
[1:07:40] Conor: And I am not going to be treated in any other way. Should the context... Is the context out of sorts in some of them? Yes, this is Glee. But there's great songs.
[1:07:57] Jacob Kyon: And I'm here for the Poker Face renaissance, by the way.
[1:08:00] Conor: There was never a renaissance for Poker Face to go through with me, because it was always top tier. But there's some people on this podcast I hear that are coming around to Poker Face as a way.
[1:08:10] Jacob Kyon: Oh my gosh, Poker Face. That is the most elite of the bunch for me.
[1:08:13] Conor: I agree that when you list all four of them, there's not a flop in the bunch.
[1:08:18] Jacob Kyon: What is the flop between the four?
[1:08:21] Conor: Probably Next to Me, if we had to say.
[1:08:23] Jacob Kyon: And you're a season four elitist.
[1:08:25] Conor: And I was going to say, and that's coming from a season four, uh, yeah, Next to Me, it was just, it was like they kind of were like, oh, we want to have one last duet.
[1:08:33] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, it was a weak choice for a duet, being like, no, no, Rachel, you need to do something unexpected next to me.
[1:08:43] Conor: So it was weak in that sense. But like, listen to the mp3, guys. It's really well produced, the two of them.
[1:08:49] Jacob Kyon: Also, I'm just going to say it. Is it, where do we fall on the discourse of Lea Michele being a better vocalist than Idina? Is that a generally accepted truth?
[1:08:59] Conor: I think that like people, I remember like. Not to pit two women against one another, but like, that is the concept of the podcast, you know. Famous YouTube vocalist, Queen. I remember she had in her episode, Constant Craving, and then we had a discussion about her not being a vocalist. She knows the craft.
[1:09:20] Jacob Kyon: She was like Idina Menzel doesn't do it for her.
[1:09:22] Conor: And so I was like, that, OK, there's a stamp of approval.
[1:09:26] Jacob Kyon: So my Idina Menzel story is as follows. So back, Idina Menzel's star really started to rise with the Adele d'Azim of it all, and that New Year's Eve, so I believe that was 2013, 2014, when that happened, she was like, oh, I'm going to do a duet with Idina Menzel.
[1:09:45] Conor: So I believe that was 2013, 2014, when that happened. That New Year's Eve, she was singing at the New York Times Square ball drop for New Year's Eve.
[1:09:56] Jacob Kyon: And she was, I think she sang Let It Go, and it kind of went semi-viral within our circles being like, that was really, really, like, what is going on with her?
[1:10:02] Conor: But a couple of months later, I was in New York, and I got to see If Then with Idina Menzel.
[1:10:14] Jacob Kyon: I saw that as well, yeah.
[1:10:15] Conor: In that show, and I saw it on a Sunday matinee. So it was like the last show of the week. And obviously, I was going into it with the context of like, oh my God, things haven't been going great vocally for Idina Menzel lately. And she came out, and I have to say, she ate it all.
[1:10:34] Jacob Kyon: I was waiting for it to come around, because I knew that people were listening, being like, oh, not too much on my girl.
[1:10:38] Conor: Yeah, she was phenomenal. The vocals, it was fucking amazing. That song that she sings on that show, always starting over from that show, was one of the best stage moments I've seen in my life to this day. But yeah, so where are we with that then? Are you both undecided?
[1:10:54] Jacob Kyon: I have something to say about it.
[1:10:58] Conor Burke: I think it's really hard to compare their vocals in a show like Glee because if we compare them singing live, that's different. But on Glee, everything's produced, you've got time to record it in the studio, make it sound perfect. So you can't really compare vocals. I guess you're just comparing tones and deliveries of the notes. But if we're comparing them live, I do think Lea, unfortunately, does out-sing her live.
[1:11:27] Jacob Kyon: I think, yeah. How old is Lea Michele now? 30, whatever, 37? I don't know, however old she is. You have to hand it to her, the instrument has remained intact.
[1:11:41] Conor Burke: Yes, yeah.
[1:11:43] Jacob Kyon: It has. I'm sorry. She sounds the same, if not better. Is that not an objective fact?
[1:11:49] Conor Burke: Yeah, I think so as well. And I also think it's really interesting. With Glee songs, it doesn't matter who's the better vocalist. Sometimes you can just prefer somebody else on a different song. For example, I love Lea's voice, but I prefer Amber Riley on Take Me or Leave Me.
[1:12:10] Jacob Kyon: Thank you. I prefer Amber on that. Then I prefer Naya on, you know, another. It's so interesting how you bring up Take Me or Leave Me, not to get too off track, but Take Me or Leave Me is the one song, it's the most difficult song in the series for me to pick who ate up more. It is literally, for me, it is giving Drumpf versus, it's all coming back to me now, Instagram poll last week. I literally fluctuate between, I'm like, oh, I don't know. Amber Riley ate her up. I think Amber Riley absolutely ate her up on that.
[1:12:51] Conor Burke: Yeah, for me, it depends on the day of the week.
[1:12:55] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, sure. And of course, it's a Monday for me and a Sunday for you, so opinions will vary. We had this exact conversation with Ian and Lina when we talked about all the diva offs and Take Me or Leave Me was one of them.
[1:13:11] Conor Burke: Oh yeah, I heard that, yeah.
[1:13:12] Jacob Kyon: And I suppose that I chose one of them. I don't know who...
[1:13:18] Conor Burke: I can't remember who you chose.
[1:13:20] Jacob Kyon: I feel like I chose Mercedes. I think, okay, no, I chose Mercedes because now it's all coming back to me now. Mercedes, I chose because Rachel is trying a little bit too hard. We have hot Rachel in Take Me or Leave Me, and it's nothing to do with vocals. As everyone knows, I don't know much anything about vocal or notes or anything.
[1:13:45] Conor Burke: Yeah, of course, famously, I do.
[1:13:48] Jacob Kyon: Right. Famous vocalist, Conor Burke. We have hot Rachel in Take Me or Leave Me, and it's hot Rachel that is trying too hard to be hot, and I think that weighs her down. So it doesn't have anything to do with vocals for me.
[1:14:05] Conor Burke: When season four Rachel, she's just ever so slightly... Why can I say that? Ever so slightly.
[1:14:10] Jacob Kyon: Hot. Do you know what I mean? She's not trying. She just looks good, especially obviously after the makeover episode.
[1:14:24] Conor Burke: Maybe a change would do you good, you know?
[1:14:26] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. Well, that is wild to me, because I feel like the makeover came the first episode of season four. I can't see a big difference in the makeover between that song and...
[1:14:35] Conor Burke: That is a very good point.
[1:14:38] Jacob Kyon: The funniest thing about the makeover is just, you know, and this is obviously so obvious, but I feel like we don't talk about it enough, is that thematically it makes sense for someone to get a makeover because they've now left school and they're in college and they're exploring themselves. But it's just literally like you just know from a production standpoint, it was Lea being like, OK, like, yeah, give me the better clothes. I want to blow out the Lea Michelification of Rachel Berry. And you know what? Kind of fucking iconic, because a similar thing happened with Cory in which he left, Finn left high school and it was like the producers were immediately like, we can make him look 35 now.
[1:15:19] Conor Burke: We can lean into it.
[1:15:20] Jacob Kyon: Finally.
[1:15:21] Conor Burke: It's so, so funny.
[1:15:22] Jacob Kyon: We can get the rugby jerseys out.
[1:15:25] Conor Burke: Yeah, absolutely iconic. Um, really back into I Dreamed a Dream. I just like feel like I don't really...
[1:15:35] Conor Burke: What? What is so funny?
[1:15:37] Jacob Kyon: I'm just like, we just got so off track.
[1:15:39] Conor Burke: No, yeah, we have to stay on. We have to stay on task here.
[1:15:44] Jacob Kyon: I Dreamed a Dream. I don't think about her and not in the same way that I mentioned last week with like Happy Days Are Here Again, because I think I definitely do think about her more than I think about I Dreamed a Dream. I Dreamed a Dream is something that I'm like, oh, it's always been there. I don't stream it. I don't consider her. But she is like, really great. Like I had a good time watching it. I was like, I can't believe that we have this almost. You know what I mean?
[1:16:14] Conor Burke: Yeah.
[1:16:15] Jacob Kyon: That we don't have conversations about I Dreamed a Dream.
[1:16:17] Conor Burke: Yeah, yeah.
[1:16:19] Jacob Kyon: No, we don't. But yes, on the other hand, I get what you mean. Like we don't have conversations about it, but I can't believe we have it. It feels like it should be in the Smithsonian or something.
[1:16:27] Conor Burke: It just feels like we always had it.
[1:16:30] Jacob Kyon: And I feel like out of all the Les Mis songs they sung on Glee, it is probably the best. I do have a really soft spot for On My Own. I think that like, again, vocally, I don't know. I feel like I've heard people say that vocally, she doesn't sound that great. Leigh-Anne, On My Own.
[1:16:49] Conor Burke: Okay, which is wild work to me, because for me personally, Leigh-Anne Mitchell, unfortunately, is my favourite singer on that song that I know of. Everyone do some homework and type in Leigh-Anne Mitchell, On My Own, Hollywood Super Bowl, Hollywood Bowl.
[1:17:07] Jacob Kyon: Hollywood Super Bowl.
[1:17:09] Conor Burke: See, I'm a Samantha Barks fan. Samantha Barks for me all the way.
[1:17:13] Jacob Kyon: Oh, see, that's too great.
[1:17:14] Conor Burke: I actually met Samantha Barks once and she was so lovely, but I can't go down that route, unfortunately. But that's okay.
[1:17:24] Jacob Kyon: But you just need to, you know, a little flex. Hey!
[1:17:31] Conor Burke: I can't actually talk about that.
[1:17:33] Jacob Kyon: I actually can't talk about this, but I did meet Samantha Barks.
[1:17:36] Conor Burke: I'm so glad that you brought up Samantha Barks.
[1:17:40] Jacob Kyon: It was funny enough that you brought up Samantha Barks, guys. I did actually meet her this one time. We had a very pleasant conversation. I congratulated her on scoring the role of Elsa in the Western production of Frozen. She was like, thank you so much. I was like, no problem. Don't mention it. And it was really, really lovely. And I like to think that she's somewhere right now in a podcast talking about meeting me.
[1:18:04] Conor Burke: You never know.
[1:18:07] Jacob Kyon: What do we want to, what do we want to say about I Dreamed a Dream? I like, is it obvious? Is this an obvious vote?
[1:18:16] Conor Burke: I think so.
[1:18:17] Jacob Kyon: Not to jump the gun.
[1:18:19] Conor Burke: Not for me, but I think I understand what you both are doing.
[1:18:23] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[1:18:31] Conor Burke: I will say that, like, what do I want to say? I just want to include this in the carousel. Maybe I've mentioned it before, but I was a big fan of the movie Ocean's 8, which, that movie just meant so much to me.
[1:18:47] Jacob Kyon: Ocean's 8 is a great film.
[1:18:50] Conor Burke: It really is. I'm glad that we have it.
[1:18:52] Jacob Kyon: I've only seen it once when it came out in the cinema. And I was like, this is a ball.
[1:19:00] Conor Burke: That is my multiverse of madness.
[1:19:01] Jacob Kyon: Or was it, was it like critically panned and you were like doing it for a bit?
[1:19:07] Conor Burke: No, I just remember when they first announced it, I was like, oh my God. Like, I remember it was like almost like a bit at like parties that like, my friends would be like, Andrew, tell them about this upcoming movie called Ocean's 8. And I'd be like, okay, get this. And then I would just go through the entire cast. And it would gag everybody to think about all these, you know, huge stars and Awkwafina in this big movie.
[1:19:35] Jacob Kyon: But like, but also Awkwafina has become her own. Like, it's crazy to think back. Do you remember when you were like, who is this, who is this eighth girl? But now she's obviously Awkwafina.
[1:19:45] Conor Burke: These huge, amazing, talented stars and Awkwafina.
[1:19:49] Jacob Kyon: And Awkwafina, who, oh my gosh, I am, I, I, no disrespect to Awkwafina because I love Awkwafina so much. She, her, she was in the movie, The Farewell. And it was so great. But I want to say what I initially wanted to say was the connection here was for this party that I had for Ocean's 8. It's called Ocean's 8 Foreplay, where we just hung out in my apartment. I had Ocean's 8 inspired games and everything before going to see it in the cinema. And I did a mashup of Anne Hathaway singing I Dreamed a Dream mashed up with Rihanna's Stay. And that was like, I look back at it sometimes and I'm like, I really, I really did something really amazing here. So I will be including it in the carousel.
[1:20:32] Conor Burke: For everybody to see.
[1:20:33] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, absolutely. But with that being said, I feel like it's time to vote unless anybody has anything additional to say.
[1:20:40] Conor Burke: I just want to say that Shelby is such a poor name. And no offence to any Shelbys out there, but it just struck me.
[1:20:54] Jacob Kyon: It doesn't capture Adina at all.
[1:20:57] Conor Burke: No, I'm like.
[1:21:02] Jacob Kyon: I don't know where this has come from, but I feel like that character name could have been workshopped more. Like Vivian.
[1:21:08] Conor Burke: Shelby Corcoran?
[1:21:10] Jacob Kyon: Shelby, I love Corcoran.
[1:21:12] Conor Burke: Yeah, I was about to say, maybe the Corcoran works. I like Corcoran a lot, but I don't. Like Shelby is just like.
[1:21:20] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, again, no disrespect to any Shelbys because I think I'm just talking about this character and it's not working. I'm sure Shelby, if you're listening, I'm sure it works for you. But Shelby Corcoran, it doesn't work for her because this woman is psychotic. And I just don't get that a psychotic woman would be named Shelby, you know?
[1:21:41] Conor Burke: This is your mom.
[1:21:43] Jacob Kyon: I think this is it all. I'm going to tell this teenage boy to begin a relationship with you, to bring us closer. And I want you to discover this tape and everything and do all this. That's not a Shelby thing to do.
[1:22:00] Conor Burke: Yeah.
[1:22:00] Jacob Kyon: No.
[1:22:02] Conor Burke: And that's kind of like, but I fall in the thing. That's kind of what makes her cunt. And I'm just going to say it like.
[1:22:10] Jacob Kyon: No, you're right. She's an objectively terrible person, but it doesn't make her.
[1:22:15] Conor Burke: Oh, she's the worst.
[1:22:15] Jacob Kyon: Any less fucking iconic, you know?
[1:22:18] Conor Burke: Yeah, but she's still a serving cunt. So we're going to get to her.
[1:22:20] Jacob Kyon: Exactly. God. I'm ready to vote, though. I, again, I know where this is going.
[1:22:26] Conor Burke: Then go ahead, do it.
[1:22:31] Jacob Kyon: OK. Well, I've been thinking about it and I do think that I am going to go for.
[1:22:40] Conor Burke: P.Y.
[1:22:41] Jacob Kyon: I Dreamed a Dream.
[1:22:42] Conor Burke: No, I'm going to go for I Dreamed a Dream. A little gag moment there, shall we say.
[1:22:48] Jacob Kyon: I'm not going to go for I Dreamed a Dream. I'm sorry, Alexa.
[1:22:53] Conor Burke: Um.
[1:22:55] Jacob Kyon: I think, OK, I think I know again how this is going to go. So I will.
[1:22:59] Conor Burke: OK, well.
[1:23:02] Jacob Kyon: Because this is why we'll go the other way.
[1:23:04] Conor Burke: I know, I know, I know.
[1:23:05] Jacob Kyon: I know. But I just want to give Jacob the option to go either way and make a difference in the Glacket. So here I go, obviously voting for P.Y.T. Because I think I think about that song. And it delivers, whereas I Dreamed a Dream. I don't think about that song and it delivers. I need to be like it needs to have.
[1:23:26] Conor Burke: OK, it's lacking.
[1:23:29] Jacob Kyon: I Dreamed a Dream for me.
[1:23:30] Conor Burke: Yeah.
[1:23:32] Jacob Kyon: And I think for me as well, I'm not a massive fan of the song P.Y.T., which is always a thing for me. Like if I don't like the song, but obviously it's going to take points away. Or if you don't like the vocalist, that's another thing for me.
[1:24:46] Conor Burke: What are you trying to say, Shelby?
[1:24:49] Jacob Kyon: Oh, no, no, no, not Shelby. But sometimes like, for example, having like Sue Sylvester and Coach Beast on Break Free, that's just like, oh, could it not have just been Rachel?
[1:25:01] Conor Burke: Sure.
[1:25:03] Jacob Kyon: OK, let's get into a competition number two. That was easy.
[1:25:09] Andrew: Yes, it was.
[1:25:11] Jacob: PYT, you will miss it.
[1:25:13] Conor: I get why people will miss it 100%.
[1:25:17] Jacob: I'm people. I will miss it. I think that it's like kind of, I looked at all the Artolos and how they're faring, and only one is in round three, and that's never going back again.
[1:25:28] Andrew: Isn't she lovely? Could join her, potentially. But here we go. Another season one song.
[1:25:38] Conor: Oh.
[1:25:39] Jacob: Oh, and you're gonna know what it is. Boom. You know what it is?
[1:25:44] Andrew: Lady and the Tramp.
[1:25:45] Jacob: Lady and the Tramp. Here we go. Lady and the Tramp.
[1:28:04] Andrew: Okay, we're not talking about her either, frankly. That, whoa, I, I feel like it was only the lady. Who's the lady that we're not talking about? She's a tramp. Um, Andrew, can you believe it? On my first episode in 2021, we had that song. What's that? It's a full circle moment.
[1:28:28] Andrew: Wait a minute. Is that true?
[1:28:34] Jacob: That is, that checked me because as you know, I could be wrong, but I, I, I, I'm pretty sure.
[1:28:40] Andrew: That was not your episode, Jacob. I'm so sorry. That was, it wasn't, that was with Glee Aggressive and it was against control.
[1:28:47] Jacob: Oh, okay. Jacob, I don't know why I thought that then.
[1:28:53] Conor: You're, you're living in a parallel universe. I, I need to hear the anti-Gleek the Week podcast that you're listening to. I'm so sorry. Anyway, I, I have opinions on the song. I just think Amber Riley sounds so amazing in it. She's got that real nasally, um, voice and she does like her singing any type of jazz. It's just unbelievable. She sounds so good. And usually I like the Glee Project covers more than the Glee covers, but this is an exception. The Glee cover is better.
[1:29:19] Andrew: Who sang it on Glee Project?
[1:29:23] Jacob: On the Glee Project, it was Matthias and Damien.
[1:29:26] Andrew: Oh my gosh.
[1:29:27] Conor: It wasn't good. Stinky.
[1:29:33] Jacob: Yeah, that was bad. Yeah. So I was so like, and I, and I had that version more in my head. So this was quite refreshing to listen to this. Um, it was great. I loved it. This is really perfect. And again, I just don't think that we're talking about her as much. I, she has found me in the past like year or so. And whenever she comes up on a little shuffle, I will hear her out and I'll be like, wow, they really cooked with this.
[1:29:56] Andrew: I think the, the part that I particularly loved is the, the run that Amber does as she's getting up out of her chair and like following Puck around. And I'm just like, that's so cute. I forgot how much there is of just Puck before like Mercedes is effectively swayed into joining the, the number. Um, but I think that he sounds, he sounds really good. I like that. It's like very dynamic, like he uses the room. You know what I mean? Um, I just, I really like it. I had a lot of fun.
[1:30:36] Conor: This is one of my favorite Puck songs. I know, like, I feel like every time we go into Puck territory, it's like, eee! But like, let's just call a spade a spade. I think Puck sounds amazing in this. I think it's really fun for him. I have written here, I think it's a really cool pairing. I know it was only like a one episode thing, but you can always tell with these random pairings, in my opinion, that when the actors are having fun and I just feel like Mark and Amber were kind of having fun here with one another. Um, because there's only a certain level of acting that like, you know, having, um, compatibility with someone on screen really reads. Do you know what I mean? Whether you're a good actor or not.
[1:31:19] Jacob: I think they had so much chemistry in that song, vocally and physically.
[1:31:24] Andrew: Yeah. I was thinking about like, this pairing really is so like, exciting to me. And like, this like, Puck and Mercedes thing that I'm like, what is it about like later on in the series when we have like these one-off episodes where it's like, um, already is like a very big, um, like gets passed around, I feel. That he'll like have an episode with Quinn in Big Brother, an episode with, you know, like even like Kitty, they're like canonically dating for like a considerable span of episodes, but they only really like have anything to eat in Love, Love, Love. And then also like with Artie and Rachel in, um, New New York with the subway stuff that I'm like, what is different about like those pairings as opposed to, to this Puck-Sadie's thing? You know what I mean?
[1:32:16] Conor: Yeah. And that kind of comes back to the point, is it just like, it doesn't matter how much of an actor you are, good of an actor you are, if you've got real life chemistry that sometimes reads on screen, no matter what you do. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? Because I feel similarly with Puck and Sadie's together, they were great. And it just feels like Ashley Fink and Mark Salling were having a lot of fun during that entire thing. You know?
[1:32:41] Jacob: I just have to quickly say it was good vibrations that I got. So that's why I got a little bit confused.
[1:32:48] Andrew: Okay. Yeah. We have the two vocalists on that song as well.
[1:32:54] Conor: Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Santana's head shake that she's like, it's this weird.
[1:33:02] Jacob: Yeah, she did the...
[1:33:04] Andrew: I... Naya once again.
[1:33:06] Conor: Santana's head shake has been Connor every time Andrew said something all episode.
[1:33:14] Jacob: Yeah. She lives through you.
[1:33:16] Andrew: I will say like, every time that they cut to Santana, it's like a completely different like, meme, I feel like it's like the first like, it's like very cutesy Santana at first when she thinks that the song is being sung to her. And it's like, so endearing. I'm just like, oh, that's beautiful. And then like we get, as the song goes on, it's like more and more disapproving. We have the shot, of course, where she's shaking her head disapprovingly. And also like the confused one that I think is like toward like the middle, which is also just like perfect. I think that she's like giving so much. This is why Naya's in her bag. Naya's in her bag because she's like, okay. Yeah. Oh, okay. So a boy is mine of it all. The boy is mine of it all has just happened. I'm kind of, I'm kind of...
[1:34:05] Conor: Wait, are they going to need to do more?
[1:34:06] Andrew: I'm noticing that camera lingering me a little bit more. She's really like, I need to, I need to ramp it up. The stakes are higher.
[1:34:16] Jacob: Yeah. It worked out well, obviously.
[1:34:18] Conor: It surely did. I love this. I think that this is like, this is probably like Puck's best chance at like advancing in the Glackett. Like this is his best shot.
[1:34:28] Andrew: Yeah. What else do we have from Puck?
[1:34:30] Jacob: Yeah. Do we have Sweet Caroline? Because that one I quite like.
[1:34:35] Andrew: Sweet Caroline did pass away in round two. I believe that, oh, it was, it's a man's man's man's world that, that knocked her out. Him. I'm going to say Sweet Caroline is him. And then we still have Keep Holding On left to pull, and we could very well pull this against Ladies, or Keep Holding On against Ladies of Trim. So.
[1:35:00] Conor: I do have to say as well, it does yield one of the best moments for me. When Puck is like, King Martin Luther, Mercedes is like, okay, you just said like 10 offensive things.
[1:35:18] Jacob: That is great. I just thought they were so fun together.
[1:35:22] Andrew: They were. They were. These little pairings, these little, who's a little pairing that did not happen on the show that you would have loved to have seen?

[1:40:31] Conor: Oh, this one also couldn't keep Jacob either. Yeah, I feel like, I know you're the host with the most, but I feel like you need to start the discourse on this, I'm just gonna say, because we all know, we all know the lore, and I just feel like you will offer a good grounding for this performance.
[1:40:51] Andrew: I think you're talking about the come-see-about-me of it all. Is that what you're referring to?
[1:41:10] Jacob Kyon: No, I'm actually genuinely not at all, but I know that that's what you talk from this. You're prepping me to give another statement on that song.
[1:41:20] Andrew: Okay, so I will begin my statement about "You Keep Me Hangin' On" and how much she means to me, because it's an awful lot that she does. This is the Quolo. I know that there's conversation about "I Say a Little Prayer" and "Never Can Say Goodbye." This one truly has, oh gosh, it's like galaxy brain right now, you guys have no idea. So with "I Say a Little Prayer," we have the iconic iconography of the unholy trinity resetting culture. They're doing their cheer thing. That's great. With "Never Can Say Goodbye," we have the dynamic budget. We have she's traveling different locations. We're getting story. We're getting a lot. This one has both of those things crammed into one number. We have unholy trinity doing the cheer thing, and it's iconic.
But we also have, like "Never Can Say Goodbye," we have traveling. We see her go down those steps. We see her be on the field. And then my favorite part is the stage with all the light bulbs behind them. And the cheer routine is now on stage. And there's money backing this. And it's just like, this is the Quolo that I want to go the furthest without a doubt. I really, really wish the best for her because I think that this is Quinn's best chance at getting the furthest for her personally. I just love it. There was one shot that really stood out to me. That it was like, so Brittany and Santana, they were in the classroom. They were, Quinn was singing at Finchel. But Brittany was sat behind Quinn.
And it was a beautifully framed shot of those five characters that really worked. And then there was the other shot of Quinn looking into Sue's office. Yeah, that's a really interesting shot. And I'm like, we don't get those types of shots in the music numbers as the series continues. I just think it's so, I use this word so many times, but it's so inspired. They really put so much thought into this number. And I just like, I cannot say enough good graces about it. I love it. This is truly Quinn, Lucy Febreze, Magnum Opus, without a shadow of a doubt.
[1:44:07] Jacob Kyon: I think that is such a testament to Diana Agron's talent that she really gave this girlie so many layers, didn't she? Like the whole thing about Quinn just being written to be this mean cheerleader. Like that lasted for literally 20 minutes of one episode. And then you're kind of like rooting for her in this weird way. Like Diana Agron just really, really supplied us with so much. And I feel like this musical number is a perfect reflection of that. She goes through so many emotions within the musical performance. The way it starts is absolutely iconic. You've got the mid song and there ain't nothing you can do about it moment, which is legendary, legendary, legendary. Is that the best spoken, spoken in a song?
[1:45:53] Andrew: I mean, the only other one that's coming to mind right now is "Now It's Time for a Breakdown."
[1:46:00] Jacob Kyon: I thought of that too. What's that one song that Marley has one line in it? It's a Jack solo and Marley has one line.
[1:46:10] Conor: You nasty boy!
[1:46:13] Jacob Kyon: And then there's the famous blurred lines with the kitty. Then I think all of those options, as great as they all are, "You Keep Me Hangin' On" is home to the best one.
[1:46:30] Andrew: You nasty boy is going to live on. You nasty boy is like, I know that it's in the original version, but it's like, oh my God, I remember in that same shot of Marley saying that, Kitty looks at her like, what the fuck is that girl on? Thank God she looked at her like that because it kind of gave it a little bit of realism. I love this song. Jacob, what are you thinking?
[1:47:06] Jacob Kyon: Well, I feel really bad listening to how much you care for this song and how much you love it. It's just not one of the ones that I would personally reach for. You mentioned some Quinn solos and I would much prefer, say "A Little Prayer," "Come See About Me." I don't particularly love Quinn's voice in this. I think Kitty would sound better singing a song like this.
[1:47:28] Conor: That is crazy. Wow. I'm scared to say it. The clicks are really going to come for me. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
[1:47:31] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, and also the song itself gives me a little bit of PTSD because I did work in retail when I was 15 and the original version of the song was on one of the CDs that repeated and repeated every day. So it was nice to hear a different kind of version. The performance itself was really good. I agree the cinematography was really good. The dancing was good. But yeah, it's not one that I would particularly reach for. It's not one of my favorites and I feel really bad about it because I love seeing when, Andrew, you're so passionate about it and it means a lot to you. And I feel really bad and I wish it meant a lot to me too, but it just doesn't. I will say that I feel better knowing what it's against. If this was the first song pulled in the competition, because I believe that Conor and I are aligned in voting for this. So I would be scared if this was the first song, but it's not. So do we have further notes to say about this girl?
[1:48:35] Andrew: I would not to be too depressing, but I do feel like it's kind of sad to watch this knowing, not to get too deep, the deterioration of that character and all to come. Do you know what I mean? It's only when you see a song like that, you're like, oh, there's so much potential. The Quinn songs that we get in season one, we end season one with four Quolos that you would be led to believe, okay, as the series progresses, that will be kind of the standard. By season's end, two and three, we're expecting that many songs. But it's crazy to me that the amount of plot that she's given in season two, specifically, without a single solo.

[2:01:52] Jacob Kyon: It's all connected.
[2:01:53] Conor: Everything she touches turns to gold.
[2:01:55] Jacob Kyon: I hope she got her side dues.
[2:01:58] Conor: So I wanted to see more of her. But yeah.
[2:02:04] Jacob Kyon: I think the glods have it in for me this episode, because I just said that I wasn't a huge fan of Britney and Arty.
[2:02:14] Conor: Yeah, they want you.
[2:02:18] Jacob Kyon: If this goes home, Alexa will actually break it.
[2:02:24] Conor: Who's your podcast host?
[2:02:25] Jacob Kyon: Who's my podcast host?
[2:02:26] Conor: Yeah.
[2:02:26] Jacob Kyon: What platform do you use?
[2:02:30] Conor: Oh, I use Megaphone.
[2:02:33] Jacob Kyon: OK, well, she's going to break into those servers and delete this episode.
[2:02:37] Conor: Should this.
[2:02:38] Jacob Kyon: Thank you for engaging with that bit, Andrew.
[2:02:40] Conor: She's going to engage.
[2:02:43] Jacob Kyon: She's going to delete this episode. I'm just gonna be like, that didn't happen.
[2:02:46] Conor: Do you hear the sirens outside?
[2:02:49] Jacob Kyon: That's her calling the police.
[2:02:50] Conor: Yeah, she's like, oh, I know where this is going.
[2:02:53] Jacob Kyon: She's getting ready.
[2:02:55] Conor: Yeah.
[2:02:58] Jacob Kyon: One final piece of discourse that I wanted to bring up regarding "Isn't She Lovely" is the I thought this.
[2:03:03] Conor: What did you say?
[2:03:06] Jacob Kyon: I said, OK.
[2:03:07] Conor: OK, I'll hear it out.
[2:03:10] Jacob Kyon: Is the I thought this song was about a baby. There are certain.
[2:03:12] Conor: Oh, how did we forget that?
[2:03:15] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, right. Where it's like that that is just ingrained. It doesn't matter if I'm listening to the MP3. I know where that exists within the song.
[2:03:25] Conor: OK, and I will say it.
[2:03:27] Jacob Kyon: You know what I mean?
[2:03:28] Conor: Yeah, I do.
[2:03:30] Jacob Kyon: I'm quite I'm lost.
[2:03:31] Conor: I don't know what you mean.
[2:03:32] Jacob Kyon: Mercedes is saying.
[2:03:34] Conor: I think that's what happens when you get up and walk away.
[2:03:39] Jacob Kyon: I'm sorry.
[2:03:41] Conor: No, you're good.
[2:03:41] Jacob Kyon: You're good.
[2:03:42] Conor: You're good.
[2:03:42] Jacob Kyon: My apologies.
[2:03:43] Conor: Mercedes says I thought the song was about a baby when Artie starts singing.
[2:03:47] Jacob Kyon: Right, right, right, right, right.
[2:03:48] Conor: Yeah.
[2:03:49] Jacob Kyon: I'm in a similar way that it's like the survivor mashup for better, for worse. I always say that we got this between us.
[2:03:58] Conor: Yeah, I know.
[2:03:58] Jacob Kyon: Lane and that's disgusting.
[2:04:00] Conor: Well, one of your famous lines that you take from me and my sister started saying, every time we hear a song that we haven't heard before, we look at each other and say they're doing original songs, original songs.
[2:04:14] Jacob Kyon: Great that yeah, I love it.
[2:04:16] Conor: Oh, Kurt was cooking.
[2:04:19] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[2:04:19] Conor: And I think I think to that, to this song's credit, it's a it's a really great little moment there that Mercedes has.
[2:04:26] Jacob Kyon: So, yeah.
[2:04:27] Conor: Yeah.
[2:04:28] Jacob Kyon: Um, OK, final song of the episode.
[2:04:31] Conor: Here we go.
[2:04:31] Jacob Kyon: Oh, please.
[2:04:33] Conor: No season one.
[2:04:34] Jacob Kyon: Alexa, you're just shaking in your boots.
[2:04:36] Conor: I know.
[2:04:38] Jacob Kyon: Don't be stressed about this, Alexa.
[2:04:40] Conor: No, she's.
[2:04:42] Jacob Kyon: She's I'm going to jail, going right to jail because.
[2:04:47] Conor: What season?
[2:04:48] Jacob Kyon: Season one.
[2:04:49] Conor: And it's kind of like crazy how this is happening. Because I said at the beginning of the episode that there are two competitions that could happen and all four of them were pulled in this episode now.
[2:05:07] Jacob Kyon: So here we go.
[2:05:10] Conor: Oh, see what it is.
[2:05:11] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[2:05:13] Conor: Maybe this time.
[2:05:14] Jacob Kyon: Maybe this time I'll be lucky.
[2:05:19] Conor: Maybe this time he'll stay.
[2:05:31] Jacob Kyon: Maybe this time for the first time, love won't hurry away.
[2:05:44] Conor: He will hold me fast.
[2:05:52] Jacob Kyon: I'll be home at last.
[2:05:59] Conor: Not a loser anymore like the last time and the time before.
[2:06:14] Jacob Kyon: Everybody loves a winner.
[2:06:22] Conor: So nobody loved me.
[2:06:27] Jacob Kyon: Lady peaceful, lady happy.
[2:06:33] Conor: That's what I long to be.
[2:06:38] Jacob Kyon: All the odds are there in my favor.
[2:06:43] Conor: Something's bound to begin.
[2:06:48] Jacob Kyon: It's gonna happen sometime.
[2:06:54] Conor: Maybe this time I'll win.
[2:06:58] Jacob Kyon: Cause everybody, they love a winner.
[2:07:04] Conor: So nobody loved me.
[2:07:07] Jacob Kyon: Lady peaceful, lady happy.
[2:07:15] Conor: That's what I long to be.
[2:07:20] Jacob Kyon: All the odds are there in my favor.
[2:07:25] Conor: Something's bound to begin.
[2:07:30] Jacob Kyon: It's gonna happen sometime.
[2:07:34] Conor: Maybe this time, maybe this time I'll win.
[2:07:44] Jacob Kyon: It's literally, every time that I watch it again, it just like is so much, it's even better than I remember it.
[2:07:58] Conor: Yeah.
[2:08:01] Jacob Kyon: Is this, let's just go straight into it, is this the most perfect song on Glee contextually?
[2:08:09] Conor: Okay, I wanted to talk about that.
[2:08:13] Jacob Kyon: Why does it work contextually for you?
[2:08:15] Conor: Because, because not only do you have, so let's leave out, leave the fact out that Kristen and Lea are obviously amazing vocalists, but this song is, I feel like with April Rhodes, so much of the discourse gets left out about her because April Rhodes is such an iconic camp queen that's so hilarious, but there's actually obviously something, like a deep tragedy to her character.
[2:08:38] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[2:08:39] Conor: And it's the fact that at this point in the series, Rachel has obviously fucked off from the Glee Club to be the lead in Cabaret, and April, so April is returning to her formal glory, i.e. a high school where she was the main bitch, and Rachel is searching for hers. Rachel is at a point in her life where she's like, maybe this time, I'm feeling underappreciated at the Glee Club, maybe this is going to be the time that I step into the spotlight, even though she was already in the spotlight within the Glee Club, she never saw it that way. Rachel is like, I am, maybe this is the time that I step into my true self, and for April, she's like, okay, this is where it all began for me, I thought my chapter was over, I thought my drinking and all of my personal problems got the best of me, but maybe this is a new leaf for me, and that's what's so powerful about the song. The song is a duet that meets both characters at a very distinct personal moment for their arc.
[2:09:42] Jacob Kyon: That's a really great point.
[2:09:43] Conor: Do you know what I mean?
[2:09:44] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[2:09:44] Conor: And I will say, sorry, the only thing I can compare it to that's contextually as good as that is there are worse things I can do with Nia obviously singing the role of Rizzo, then it cuts to Nick saying, I can feel and I can cry, and then it cuts to Kate Hudson's character, Cassandra, saying, I could flirt with all the guys, you know, so it's giving me that. Just thematically as well, all of those kind of songs, maybe this time there are worse things I could do, even comes from Craven, I love when Glee marries characters together, that's when Glee, or even out here on my own in a way, that has, probably to a lesser extent, but that has, when a song meets more than one character. New York State of Mind is a great example as well.
[2:10:33] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, I think that particularly the musical theatre songs that really work within the context, I'm very impressed by, and I always thought about, it's all over, and Getting Married Today as two songs that I'm like, wow, they were waiting for this exact moment to do this, and it worked so much in their favour contextually, but I never really considered how well maybe this time works.
[2:11:03] Conor: And I think also, this is still important, but logistically, I know that people have their feelings about these type of numbers where they're not actually singing together, and it's like how they're singing it as a duet, but they're in different locations, whatever. I love that.
[2:11:20] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, this one even has, this is obviously episode five of the series, but this one has the backing of April clocking that the school musical is Cabaret, and being like, oh, okay, then I'm going to be singing this song, and it just like, it doubly, triply, quadruply works, just on so many different levels.
[2:11:47] Conor: I think, quickly, that the ones that work for me, maybe this time, the worst things I can do, New York State of Mind and Like a Virgin. I just think it's really genius to have, on Like a Virgin, all the different couples with all their storylines singing about the same thing, but with different experiences.
[2:12:04] Jacob Kyon: And the melding too, it's so present here. I know that it's probably, at the end of the song, you would say 75% April, whereas it's maybe closer to 30% Rachel, I don't know.
[2:12:20] Conor: It's much more April, right?
[2:12:23] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, absolutely. And also, for me, with the somebody to love of it all, obviously, coming at the end of this episode, absolutely legendary. We love it. For me, not to be like, look at me, I'm so different. This is the song that was like, the glee has arrived. This is, I am locked in, I am down now, because this was like, I remember watching it for the first time being like, oh, my God, like, this is fucking brilliant. This is so well made. This is brilliantly produced. It's so smart what they're doing here. And then when you watch the rest of the episode, and they finish with somebody to love, with the shot of the hand going up in the air, and I was like, oh, I was like, this is going to change my life. Do you know what I mean?
[2:13:12] Conor: I do agree with you about maybe this time, like, liking it more than somebody to love. I remember when somebody to love it, I was like, well, I've seen this on Ella Enchanted. Ella Enchanted did it better.
[2:13:24] Jacob Kyon: Not the Ella Enchanted name drop. But yeah, but maybe this time was the standout. And I was like, that is so cool how there's two, I love things like that, two different storylines happening, but they're both singing the same song about the same thing, but it works in there. It's very, like, theatrical and really cool. It's like, you know, One Day More from Les Mis, when they all come together. It's that type of thing.
[2:13:47] Conor: Yeah.
[2:13:48] Jacob Kyon: Oh, that's a perfect comparison.
[2:13:50] Conor: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And maybe this time is such a song of yearning that it really goes back to the thesis of what of what makes Glee what it is, works so well. Like, we always talk about, like, what Glee to me, hashtag Glee to me. Glee to me is about these group of lost souls trying to find comfort through art and companionship.
[2:14:13] Jacob Kyon: Oh, my God.
[2:14:13] Conor: And so, like, that song is, like, very just much representative of that. And as well as that, it's even smarter because it's from one of the most well-known, well-respected, most beloved musicals of all time. And where the character in the show sings it, there's also an extra layer there. So I just think that this is one of the most perfect choices on Glee.
[2:14:34] Jacob Kyon: Oh, my God. I mean, like, to keep it going, to compliment the song, I just feel, I love the spotlight on April, as silly as it is, that it's, like, this spotlight within this choir room is hilarious. But it is, like, it assists the song so much because it's, like, this is a character that is so desperate for the spotlight and hasn't found an outlet since high school to, like, be in the spotlight and get that attention and, you know, like, show off this insane voice and do all these things. Like, I just love, the spotlight is so fun. And there's that one, there's, like, a few seconds where April is, like, looking directly at where the spotlight is shining on that it's, like, it's just, like, it's so, it translates so well that this is a character that is so desperate for this spotlight, quite literally.
[2:15:37] Conor: For greatness.
[2:15:39] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. Oh, my God, I love it. I'm just, I am failing. I know we may have mentioned some others, but I am failing to think of, like, a song that contextually works better than this.
[2:15:54] Conor: Do you mean, like, a split, like, a song that works contextually better in the sense that?
[2:15:57] Jacob Kyon: Not even with the split of it all, because that takes it to the next level of impressiveness. I'm just talking about generally.
[2:16:05] Conor: I think whether you're a fan of the song or not, Jessie's Girl is one that's just, like, so uncanny.
[2:16:11] Jacob Kyon: Like, it fits perfectly.
[2:16:14] Conor: That's true. But knowing that they named Jessie, it kind of takes points away.
[2:16:20] Jacob Kyon: Because I'm also thinking of, like, Black or White, but it's, like, it's so, because Kurt sings the line of, like, tell you, you agree with me when I saw you kicking dirt in my eye. And I'm, like, okay, but that's, like, within the episode. So it's, like, they could have written to that, whatever.
[2:16:39] Conor: Yeah.
[2:16:40] Jacob Kyon: Um, it's stupid. So, but, like, I think the fact is, is that maybe this time, the fact that we can't think of any other song that really compares contextually.
[2:16:52] Conor: I think Torn was a great song choice.
[2:16:57] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, yeah.
[2:16:58] Conor: For where Rachel was at that point.
[2:16:59] Jacob Kyon: But, like, that's nowhere near. Wake Me Up was a really good one when she was tired of doing all the Broadway shows.
[2:17:07] Conor: Yeah.
[2:17:10] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, as one is when you get the lead in Funny Girl.
[2:17:14] Conor: Yeah, but I do agree. I think this is really, it fits the storyline really well. And I actually wasn't familiar with the song before I heard the Glee version.
[2:17:21] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[2:17:23] Conor: And I love it. I love the arrangement. I love how they sing that high note in unison. And Kristen Chenoweth's got that really nice vibrato. And Lea Michele's kind of singing it straight. And Kristen Chenoweth is climbing the ranks of people that I care about most in this world. And I feel like it happened in the past year or two when I was just, like, finding myself in these YouTube, just like, wormholes.
[2:17:51] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, where it's just like.
[2:17:57] Conor: YouTube k-holes.
[2:17:59] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, exactly. Where I'm just, like, watching so much Kristen Chenoweth content. And it's like, she delivers on every single performance. And it's so great. If you're looking for a great Kristen performance, not from Glee. She sings the song Tribulation in Schmigadoon season one. And it's one shot. And it's so good. She was nominated for an Emmy for it. And it was, like, so ridiculous that she did it.
[2:18:28] Conor: I have to quickly add that another good performance by Kristen is her and Ariana sing You Don't Own Me together.
[2:18:39] Jacob Kyon: Oh, yeah. I forgot about that one. That was, like, on her, like, little duets album or something. What was that?
[2:18:45] Conor: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[2:18:47] Jacob Kyon: And that was cute.
[2:18:49] Conor: Connor, what were you going to say?
[2:18:51] Conor: I was just going to say, maybe to the surprise of many, I'm just not familiar with Schmigadoon at all. I have not even glanced in its direction.
[2:19:01] Jacob Kyon: So I need to do that immediately, I feel.
[2:19:03] Conor: It's only two seasons. It's good. It has its faults. But, like, there are some really, really great original songs in that.
[2:19:16] Jacob Kyon: They're doing original songs?
[2:19:17] Conor: They're doing original songs.
[2:19:18] Jacob Kyon: They surely were.
[2:19:19] Conor: Tribulation was the best out of both seasons. And then Cross That Bridge as well, if you're looking for another one. Just really incredible content.
[2:19:28] Jacob Kyon: I think as well, there's something about maybe this time that I go back to is obviously Chris Colfer's reaction at the end. And I'm saying Chris Colfer on purpose. Like, this has to be one of the moments for the young cast who are obviously relatively green, where they were sitting there being like, sometimes you have those moments in your career or in your life where you kind of sit there and you zone out and you're like, how did I end up here? And I imagine that for them, they were very much like that as well. And that's, I don't know, that adds another layer of, because another layer on top of that is that I can imagine that not all of those actors were really familiar with who Kristen was.
I think like Kevin's talked about not knowing this song. Not knowing. Maybe Kristen at the time. Yeah, exactly. Because not all of them were in the musical theatre lore. They might have heard of her in a peripheral sense, but weren't really. So they must have been like, so you can tell that as well. And also, it's so early in the season that there's just this, in the series, that there's just this real, like, I don't know, them all sitting there, like, kind of innocently or I don't know. There's this real meekness to it.
[2:20:34] Conor: I agree.
[2:20:34] Jacob Kyon: That reads, that it wouldn't, maybe this time in season five would not be.
[2:20:41] Conor: Wouldn't hit.
[2:20:42] Jacob Kyon: As, wouldn't hit as much, even if it was the exact same. I don't, I don't think. It was because it was new. We were getting to know these people. We didn't really know Lea Michele yet. We knew Rachel Berry, et cetera. And I don't really care for how they write for April or Holly in the season five episodes either. I just think that they're both watered down versions of themselves, which is understandable because they have so much ground to cover within those two episodes that they're part of. And so I just, I don't even consider that a Kirsten Chenoweth. Like, I'm like, that's, girl, this isn't you. What are you, what are you doing here?
[2:21:21] Conor: Yeah.
[2:21:23] Jacob Kyon: Is Kirsten Chenoweth, is April Rhodes the best written of the guest stars?
[2:21:30] Conor: I really, I think I like Gwyneth Paltrow more.
[2:21:36] Jacob Kyon: Yes.
[2:21:36] Conor: Gwyneth Paltrow.
[2:21:37] Jacob Kyon: Yep.
[2:21:37] Conor: For sure. And I really liked the way they wrote Dani, Demi Lovato, even though she wasn't in it for long.
[2:21:44] Jacob Kyon: Is that an unpopular opinion?
[2:21:56] Andrew: This is so mean to ask. How is Dani well-written to you?
[2:22:02] Jacob Kyon: Okay. I just really enjoyed that Santana kind of went for someone who was a bit more, you know, like different to Brittany, wasn't like a carbon copy. I loved the whole, like, let's watch the sun together. And I don't know, the more I'm talking about it, I'm like, it wasn't very well-written. I think I just loved Lovato, and I loved Divorce.
[2:22:29] Andrew: There's smoke coming out of Andrew's ears right now.
[2:22:32] Jacob Kyon: No, no, no. I agree. Because I think that Dani did offer something inherently different than Brittany did, which is fun and exciting.
[2:22:41] Conor: Yeah.
[2:22:41] Jacob Kyon: I think it's really interesting how the adult roles who are special guest stars or guest stars are written in this show. And I'm wondering, was it purely coincidence, or were they doing it to be like, like Miss Goop, Kristen's characters, the adults in the show are so aloof?
[2:22:49] Andrew: Yes.
[2:22:49] Jacob Kyon: Was it a creative decision for all, Stephen Tobolowsky, was it a creative decision for all of the adults to be manic?
[2:22:53] Andrew: I know.
[2:22:53] Jacob Kyon: Isn't that interesting? Thinking like Shirley MacLaine right now, because I understand what you're saying, that they have that in common, that April and Holly are similar in a lot of ways.
[2:23:03] Conor: Yeah.
[2:23:04] Jacob Kyon: But also quite different as well. But Shirley MacLaine's character, June Galway.
[2:23:10] Andrew: They're both afraid of commitment, one-liners, aloof, just not present.
[2:23:16] Jacob Kyon: Obviously, they've got their own emotions. They're very childish.
[2:23:22] Andrew: I think one of the best-written adult guest stars would be Whoopi Goldberg as Carmen Thibodeau. She's straight, her character's the exact same from when you first see her till the end.
[2:23:29] Conor: That's a very good point. Yeah.
[2:23:31] Jacob Kyon: Yeah. And I would say the same about Holly Holliday, actually.
[2:23:37] Andrew: Holly does fare better than April does in season five.
[2:23:41] Jacob Kyon: She's more consistently written than April, I feel.
[2:23:44] Conor: So, what else?
[2:23:46] Jacob Kyon: A guest star that I would say isn't well-written is Nurse Penny.
[2:23:51] Andrew: Just didn't care about it, didn't...
[2:23:53] Jacob Kyon: Oh my god, Nurse Penny.
[2:23:56] Conor: She's an icon for what she is.
[2:23:58] Jacob Kyon: For what she is, yeah.
[2:24:01] Andrew: Do we have any further notes?
[2:24:03] Jacob Kyon: And what is she?
[2:24:05] Conor: What is she?
[2:24:07] Jacob Kyon: Final notes about Maybe This Time. Is the fact that Idina and Kristen not appearing on screen, is that purely coincidence, schedule clash?
[2:24:14] Andrew: Surely Ryan Murphy was like, we need to get these two ladies together.
[2:24:17] Jacob Kyon: Or was it just them being like, we don't want to do that? Not because we don't love each other and stuff, just because we are trying to forge our own path kind of thing?
[2:24:25] Conor: It's interesting.
[2:24:26] Jacob Kyon: Were they in any of the same episodes at all?
[2:24:29] Andrew: No, the closest that they got was Home and the episodes...
[2:24:34] Jacob Kyon: Because Kristen's in Home, but Idina isn't.
[2:24:37] Andrew: But Idina is in that span of episodes.
[2:24:40] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, she's in that era. But yeah, I think it was a conscious choice to not have them on screen together.
[2:24:46] Conor: Because I personally, I think it's like, that's for an award show, to bring out two actresses that worked on the project together and have them present an award. You know, to have it in a completely different project feels distracting?
[2:24:56] Jacob Kyon: Does that make sense?
[2:24:57] Conor: Yeah, it does make sense.
[2:24:59] Jacob Kyon: It's just surprising to me that Ryan Murphy in particular wasn't going in for it.
[2:25:04] Conor: Yeah, I'm not sure.
[2:25:06] Jacob Kyon: Because I think it probably could work.
[2:25:08] Conor: I'm not sure in what realm.
[2:25:10] Jacob Kyon: I know that I've seen online a few times that they're like, Kristen and Idina should have sang Defying Gravity and Glee.
[2:25:15] Conor: I've seen a couple of posts.
[2:25:17] Jacob Kyon: I've seen a couple of posts online on queer media. And I'm like, that's all I wanted.
[2:25:21] Conor: No, that's mental illness.
[2:25:23] Jacob Kyon: I'm sorry. That's mental illness.
[2:25:25] Conor: Why would we need that?
[2:25:26] Jacob Kyon: I'm not saying that. I'm just saying like...
[2:25:28] Conor: And of course, I'm in queer media. And so I would know.
[2:25:31] Jacob Kyon: I just don't think people would want to see that because...
[2:25:34] Conor: It's fine.
[2:25:35] Jacob Kyon: It's just like...
[2:25:36] Conor: But it's the stupid pop version, though, you know?
[2:25:39] Jacob Kyon: We've got the good recording, the Broadway recording of them. We don't need to see them do that silly pop version of it.
[2:25:44] Conor: Yeah, exactly.
[2:25:46] Jacob Kyon: And needless to say, anyway, I will be voting for Isn't She Lovely.
[2:25:53] Conor: You have to be serious when you cast your vote. This is not where we are.
[2:25:56] Jacob Kyon: I'll put my glasses on.
[2:25:58] Conor: Okay. I will be voting for Maybe That's Fun.
[2:26:01] Jacob Kyon: Okay, finally, someone that's serious.
[2:26:04] Conor: I will also be voting for Maybe This Time. And I can't even do a pity vote because Maybe This Time is that bitch.
[2:26:10] Jacob Kyon: I know.
[2:26:11] Conor: Can someone do a wellness check on Arthur Abrams?
[2:26:14] Jacob Kyon: Seriously. I'm concerned.
[2:26:16] Conor: I can't remember the last time that I've been on this podcast where there's been a tough competition, if ever.
[2:26:22] Jacob Kyon: Was that a tough competition?
[2:26:25] Conor: What have I lived through?
[2:26:27] Jacob Kyon: No, you... because Patrick said the same thing last week. And I had to remind him that in the episode that you and Patrick shared, Never Can Say Goodbye versus Songbird.
[2:26:35] Conor: But that's such an easy combination.
[2:26:37] Jacob Kyon: That is Songbird. I get it. But also, I knew. I knew 15 seconds in.
[2:26:44] Conor: You know?
[2:26:45] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[2:26:46] Conor: Faithfully versus I Feel Pretty Unpretty.
[2:26:49] Jacob Kyon: Right.
[2:26:50] Conor: It's the funniest thing that's ever happened.
[2:26:52] Jacob Kyon: The fact that you just refused to vote.
[2:26:54] Conor: You were like, we can't do this.
[2:26:57] Jacob Kyon: I don't want to do this.
[2:26:59] Conor: Andrew, what's the song that I brought up ages ago that you ended up listening to twice?
[2:27:06] Andrew: Wait, what?
[2:27:07] Conor: Wasn't there a song that you were about to be like, maybe you did it on the podcast. So you pulled the song.
[2:27:12] Andrew: Oh, and we watched it twice.
[2:27:14] Conor: Oh, you watched it twice. I think it was We Built This City.
[2:27:17] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, for all of the songs in the clock to watch twice.
[2:27:21] Andrew: No, yeah. We built this city.
[2:27:23] Jacob Kyon: I forget why. I think it was like Alison that effectively convinced us to be like, no, we need to watch that again to be actually serious about it. I think that we weren't treating it seriously. And so we had to watch it again.
[2:27:34] Conor: So anyway.
[2:27:35] Jacob Kyon: Legendary.
[2:27:36] Conor: Do we want to recap this episode?
[2:27:38] Andrew: Yeah.
[2:27:39] Conor: Pretty young thing.
[2:27:40] Jacob Kyon: Well, I guess you feel unpretty because you're not going to round three.
[2:27:46] Conor: I dreamed a dream that I would make it to round three.
[2:27:50] Jacob Kyon: And that dream.
[2:27:51] Conor: And she did.
[2:27:52] Jacob Kyon: Became a reality.
[2:27:54] Conor: Um, lady is a tramp.
[2:27:56] Jacob Kyon: Lady is a loser. Not going to round three.
[2:27:59] Conor: Um, you keep you keep me hanging on.
[2:28:03] Jacob Kyon: I laughed and now they all got out of order. Um, you keep me hanging on.
[2:28:08] Conor: You keep me hanging on to round three.
[2:28:11] Jacob Kyon: What is what is what is the joke there? Is there a better one?
[2:28:15] Conor: There ain't nothing I can do.
[2:28:17] Jacob Kyon: You can do about it.
[2:28:18] Conor: Yes, there is. We can send you to round three.
[2:28:21] Jacob Kyon: How about there you go. I'm going to round three and there ain't nothing I can do about it.
[2:28:27] Conor: Yeah.
[2:28:28] Jacob Kyon: Okay. See, listeners, you're hearing workshopping going on. We're workshopping and playing.
[2:28:34] Conor: It works.
[2:28:35] Jacob Kyon: Um, isn't she lovely?
[2:28:37] Conor: Isn't she excommunicated from the Glackett?
[2:28:40] Jacob Kyon: Isn't she going to hell?
[2:28:42] Conor: Isn't she going to hell?
[2:28:44] Jacob Kyon: Um, and maybe, oh, and maybe this time.
[2:28:48] Conor: Maybe this time she will stay.
[2:28:50] Jacob Kyon: Maybe this time I'll be a winner.
[2:28:53] Conor: Yeah.
[2:28:54] Jacob Kyon: Oh.
[2:28:55] Conor: So were they all season one songs?
[2:28:58] Jacob Kyon: No, we had the two Artolos were season two.
[2:29:02] Conor: True, true, true, true.
[2:29:04] Jacob Kyon: That's crazy. Only season one and season two.
[2:29:07] Conor: Crazy because season one and season two are my two least favorites.
[2:29:11] Jacob Kyon: Wait, what did you say, Jacob?
[2:29:14] Conor: Wait, would Jacob go back to that hot take?
[2:29:16] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, season one and season two are my least favorite seasons.
[2:29:20] Conor: Oh, and you got exclusively that.
[2:29:23] Jacob Kyon: That is crazy.
[2:29:25] Conor: I know, I know.
[2:29:27] Jacob Kyon: So your favorite season is season four.
[2:29:29] Conor: That would go season four, season three, season five, season six, season two, season one.
[2:29:35] Jacob Kyon: Oh.
[2:29:36] Conor: I know, I know. And I'm not asking you to plug, Jacob. I know it's very, at least I'm self-aware. I know that I'm, I have the wrong opinion, but I still have the opinion.
[2:29:45] Jacob Kyon: You're good.
[2:29:46] Conor: No, it's fine. This is what really makes Glacketing interesting.
[2:29:50] Jacob Kyon: It's beautiful.
[2:29:52] Conor: Okay, so speaking of plug, Jacob, if anybody wants to find you or talk to you about any of the competitions that were done today, where can they do that?
[2:30:01] Jacob Kyon: Come for me and tell me I was wrong or right. Yeah, Jacob Kyon is my Instagram, J-A-C-O-B-K-Y-O-N. Follow, like, subscribe.
[2:30:09] Conor: Follow, like, subscribe.
[2:30:11] Jacob Kyon: Yep, exactly. Like, subscribe. Comment.
[2:30:14] Conor: I feel the delirium really kicking in right now. I'm going crazy.
[2:30:18] Andrew: Conor, where can people find you?
[2:30:21] Conor: And also, wait, something that you want to promote.
[2:30:24] Conor: Oh, yeah, sure. I just caught a glimpse, caught a glimpse, caught a glimpse of myself in my camera, and it does look like God is shining a light down on me here.
[2:30:31] Jacob Kyon: Oh, it's the spotlight from maybe this side.
[2:30:34] Conor: There we go. Oh my God. What if God was one of us?
[2:30:38] Conor: You can find me on all social media platforms at IamConorBurke. That's Conor with one N-C-O-N-O-R-B-U-R-K-E. Always up to chat with the Gleeks and have the crack. Also, should you find yourself in Dublin and or Ireland, or I'm going to say the UK, we can push it to the UK as well. Please come and see Gleek of the Week, a brand new musical about Glee that will be taking place at the Seen and Heard Festival of Newark and Smock Alley Theatre on the weekend of February 22nd and 23rd.
[2:31:12] Jacob Kyon: So Seen and Heard is a really cool festival in which you pay like 10 euro to go see an hour long slot and you see like two pieces within that slot, of which our show is one. It's like a work in progress festival for new pieces of work. It's an original musical with original music and lyrics centered around, you guessed it, Glee.
[2:31:31] Conor: They're doing original songs.
[2:31:32] Jacob Kyon: They're doing original songs and about the emotional impact of being confronted with art that really changes your life and how that's moving, but also funny and nice. And I think that should you be a Gleek in this part of the world, you should probably come along. Tickets are available on SmockAlley.com. And obviously, let me know if you're going to come because I'd love to meet you. Maybe Charlotte will turn up this time, Andrew.
[2:32:01] Andrew: Maybe this time.
[2:32:02] Jacob Kyon: I love the way she hasn't been heard from since. I really do think that it was just Charlotte not listening.
[2:32:07] Conor: I think that there are people that don't listen to this part of the episode.
[2:32:10] Jacob Kyon: That's okay. And I think that maybe Charlotte...
[2:32:13] Conor: Anything to promote it.
[2:32:14] Jacob Kyon: Yeah, she's like, okay, I'm done. But yeah, Charlotte, maybe consider. But I do want to say what you've shared of this show, nothing short of incredible. Really, really great work that you're doing over there.
[2:32:24] Conor: Thank you so much.
[2:32:25] Jacob Kyon: Post-signing everything. And also, I've received a number of questions from the Gleeks asking if this production that you're putting on is a stage adaptation of The Glockett, which I think would actually be hilarious.
[2:32:34] Conor: That's the sequel.
[2:32:35] Jacob Kyon: That is the sequel. The Glockett Live.
[2:32:37] Conor: We need to do this podcast live, Andrew.
[2:32:40] Andrew: I'll come over.
[2:32:41] Conor: Big of me to assume that I'd be involved.
[2:32:43] Jacob Kyon: Oh, no, of course, for the finale.
[2:32:45] Conor: Yeah, me and Jacob can come over along with all the other people.
[2:32:49] Jacob Kyon: Gleeks, yes.
[2:32:51] Conor: And do something. It's like, you know, on the 100th episode when they say that there's a group chat for all the New Direction guest characters, there's a group chat for the Gleek of the Week characters as well.
[2:33:01] Jacob Kyon: Exactly.
[2:33:02] Conor: We're characters. We're not even real people.
[2:33:04] Jacob Kyon: Yeah.
[2:33:05] Conor: Beautiful. Well, thank you so much for listening to this episode. Like I said at the beginning, you can go to patreon.com slash Gleek of the Week pod for exclusive bonus episodes where we talk about Glee Project.
[2:33:14] Jacob Kyon: We do live streams of episodes that you want Alice and Dodge and I to watch, as well as Glockett live stream episodes.
[2:33:20] Conor: So HD, the Glee Project episodes.
[2:33:22] Jacob Kyon: In HD Glee Project episodes that you can find nowhere else. And Robert Ulrich himself was like, hey, here are the HD files from Oxygen. Like it's really a gift that he bestowed.
[2:33:32] Conor: So yeah. And so these Glockett live stream episodes, I believe the next episode will be a Glockett live stream episode. So if you would like to vote in Glockett competitions or just attend one of these episodes, you can do that at the Patreon.
[2:33:43] Andrew: Otherwise, I'll see you next week.
[2:33:45] Conor: Okay.
[2:33:46] Jacob Kyon: Bye.
[2:33:46] Conor: Bye.
[2:33:48] Andrew: It's Gleek.
[2:33:49] Conor: Gleek of the Week.
