[0:52] Kitten: Meow, meow.

[0:54] Clucky: Bark, bark.

[0:56] Amy Daniels: Are two best friends trying to make sense of the world around them. Adventures and discoveries around every bend. Come along and explore with them. Season 3, Episode 5, Fluffy White Blanket of Doom.

[1:23] Kitten: Oh, my. It has happened. Look out there. It's just like Xander said. There's a white fluffy blanket of doom. It has covered everything. I wonder if it is safe to leave the coop. I must say, it does give the world a soft, cushy quality. It looks rather pretty, don't you think? It's so quiet and so still. Are you sure it is dangerous? It almost sparkles. Why have we been afraid of something so pretty? It just looks like a big fluffy blanket that has been draped over everything.

[2:01] Clucky: Yes, it has rounded off all the hard edges of the branches. Oh, look over there. The big old stump appears to be wearing a toque.

[2:09] Kitten: Toque, toque, toque.

[2:11] Clucky: Oh, yeah. The beanie hat thing. And the big pine tree. Oh, yeah. The beanie hat thing. And the big pine branches are drooping lower now that they are covered in snow. It looks like they have put on a fancy dress for a party. I think I understand the song now. Walking in a winter wonderland. We've lived here half a year and I've never seen the yard and the woods look like this. It's magical. Those branches on the tree that lost its leaves look like they have been painted white with a thin layer of snow that has collected.

[2:41] Clucky: Yeah, and over there, the tree branches are bent so low they are touching the ground. I wonder if the snow is heavy.

[2:49] Kitten: It must be. Look up there. A big pine tree has lost a few branches. They have just snapped off. Come on. Let's go out in it.

[3:01] Clucky: Hold on. I'm not sure that's a good idea. It could be like the sirens from one of Kitten's books. Sirens are beings from mythology whose song lured sailors to their doom.

[3:12] Kitten: How is this fluffy white blanket of snow like that?

[3:15] Clucky: It's totally like that. Look out there. It's all beautiful and white and soft looking. It's practically calling us to venture out of our coop. There are signs of danger too. Look at those broken branches. We had better stay put. There could be unknown dangers hidden under the fluff.

[3:34] Kitten: Do you really think so? What's that sound?

[3:40] Clucky: That was awesome. Cock-a-doodle-doo. Get up, you lazy birds. How can you sleep in on such an epic day? It finally snowed.

[3:49] Xander: Well, he's standing in it. It must be safe.

[3:52] Clucky: Yay, we can go out now. The voice of reason has arrived. I can't wait to touch it.

[3:58] Kitten: Now, wait a minute, ladies. Maybe I should go first. After all, Xander is covered in lots of gear and he had to ride a funny cart thingy on rails down here. Maybe it's not that safe.

[4:10] Clucky: I say. He is wearing big boots, baggy overalls, and a coat. What are those things over his eyes and something on his head?

[4:18] Kitten: We have seen him wear boots before and even a coat from time to time.

[4:22] Clucky: True, but the coat is not very often. Oh, my. He even has on gloves. Maybe it is dangerous.

[4:29] Xander: What are you all waiting for? It's the best day. Don't you want to try out the snow?

[4:34] Clucky: I thought you would be leading the charge.

[4:39] Xander: Wish me luck, ladies.

[4:42] Kitten: Good luck. Stay safe. Get back here safely.

[4:46] Clucky: I'm stepping out on the first rung of the ladder. It's covered in snow. Oh, my foot has just slid right through. It seems to have rather flattened under my step.

[5:00] Kitten: How does it feel? Does it hurt?

[5:01] Clucky: No, it just feels cold and a little wet. My claw kind of sinks into it. Okay, next step. Come on, Clucky. Move your tail feathers. You are wasting prime snow time.

[5:15] Clucky: Oh, I don't like being rushed. I'm just going to jump for it.

[5:20] Kitten: Brooke.

[5:21] Clucky: Oh, my. I'm stuck. I jumped, and my claws are stuck all the way up to my feathers. Oh, this is a deep blanket.

[5:29] Kitten: Are you stuck? We did get quite a bit of snow. I think it's a foot. Are your claws able to reach the ground?

[5:37] Clucky: Brooke. Brooke. Help. It's got me in its clutches. Beware the siren snow.

[5:44] Kitten: Oh, Clucky. Flap your wings. Show that snow who's boss. Calm down, Clucky. You are okay. I guess I should not have rushed you. You jumped in a deep part of the snow. Just a second. I'll open the cage and help you out.

[6:04] Clucky: Brooke. Brooke. Help. I'm stuck. I'm stuck in this fluffy, cold stuff. I can't move. Help. Help. My legs are moving, but I'm getting nowhere.

[6:15] Kitten: Stop flapping so I can pick you up. It's okay. Xander's picking you up. Xander's got you, Clucky. Don't be afraid. Okay. We'll get you out of there. I got you.

[6:25] Clucky: I am not going out in that. I'm going to stay right here in the cozy coop. No white, fluffy blanket of doom for me. I'm going to set you down in this patch of snow that I've stomped on with my boots.

[6:38] Clucky: Oh. You should be able to walk here. Oh. My feet are down. Oh. Oh. I landed on my tail feathers. Careful, lady. It's slick out here. Come on, hens. Aren't you going to come out with us?

[6:52] Kitten: I stated my case. I am not going out. It seems like a bad idea. I will not go out there unless I'm forced to.

[7:01] Clucky: You're not coming? Suit yourselves. You can watch us of all the fun. Maybe it's for the best. I have only one extra helmet.

[7:10] Kitten: Helmet? Okay, Clucky. Let's see if this fits. I borrowed a helmet from Maddox Rollerblading Barbie. Sorry it's pink and purple. Maybe we can paint it if she lets us keep it.

[7:21] Clucky: Brock! It fits great. I'm going to put you on the sled now.

[7:29] Kitten: Oh. This is nice. We're going uphill. Um. I'm okay. I'm off the snow. Oh, there's so much you can see. I'm just sliding along.

[7:44] Clucky: Oh. What was that? Oh, there's a big chunk of snow fell off those branches. I hope we don't get hit with one of those.

[7:52] Kitten: Okay. We're almost there, Clucky. We're almost to the top.

[7:56] Clucky: Woof. We made it. Okay. I'm going to rest here for a minute. Oh, wow. We are really high up here. It is quite a view. I can see all the way down to the coop. It looks so small from way up here. Wow, look at those trees. I have to admit, they do look really pretty covered in the snow. It's almost like someone sprinkled powdered sugar over everything.

[8:23] Clucky: Mmm. Powdered sugar. Now I'm hungry. Enjoying the view, Clucky?

[8:30] Kitten: Just wait until you see it on warp speed. Let me get the sled turned around.

[8:37] Clucky: Brock, what? Wait. What do you mean by warp speed?

[8:41] Kitten: Okay, Clucky. Helmet secure? Check. I'm putting my goggles on. Sorry, I couldn't find any for you.

[8:47] Clucky: Brock. You need eye protection? Why?

[8:50] Kitten: Don't worry. Your eyes are on the side of your head. I'm pretty sure goggles will be unnecessary for you. All right. Ready?

[8:56] Clucky: Probably not. Aim. Are you aiming the sled? Fire! Here we go!

[9:02] Clucky: Ah! What's happening? Ah! Too fast! It's like I'm a peregrine falcon in the dark. Ah! Oh! We're going too fast. Maybe I should spread my wings out to slow us down. Ah! I'm flying! Bye, Xander!

[9:23] Kitten: Clucky, oh no! You flew off! Oh boy! There's no more wind. I'm falling! Ah! Oof! Oh. Well, that was not very graceful. At least there was all this soft snow to land in.

[9:39] Kitten: Clucky, are you okay? You just flew off the sled. Good thing you had all that snow to land in. Ready to go again? We only made it halfway down.

[9:48] Clucky: Brock, only halfway? Come on. You can do it. This time, you keep your wings tucked in tight so the wind does not launch you off the sled.

[9:57] Kitten: Next time. Brock!

[10:01] Clucky: Oh, at least we did not have to walk all the way back up. All right. Tuck your wings in. I can feel it. This is going to be a good run. Ready?

[10:09] Kitten: Nope. Aim. Blast off! Ah!

[10:16] Clucky: Ha! Isn't it amazing, Clucky? We are going so fast! I think my whole life flashed before me!

[10:24] Kitten: We made it! It's nice that it just slows down right at the end, buddy. I'm alive! Wow! We didn't crash into a tree. You look a little wobbly. Are you okay? Were you afraid we were going to hit a tree?

[10:39] Clucky: Brock? No. No, I knew we'd be fine. Are you okay, Clucky? It looked like you were going really fast. Was it scary?

[10:49] Clucky: Of course it was. Didn't you hear him screaming the whole way down?

[10:54] Kitten: Well, now, yes. Yes, I did. And it was scary, but it was also so much fun! I want to do it again. It was a rush.

[11:05] Clucky: Well, of course, everything was rushing by me. Maybe that's why they call it a rush. Brock, Brock! You look a little better, Clucky. Are you telling the hens how much fun that was?

[11:19] Clucky: Lady, did you want to try? No. Nope! No, thank you.

[11:25] Kitten: I see. You would rather watch it from the coop? You ladies are missing out. I can't wait to go again.

[11:30] Clucky: You sure changed your tune quickly. Of course. I'm alive! New things can be scary at first, but most of the time, if you give them a try, you'll find out they're not so bad. They may even be fun. The first ride was pretty scary, especially because I went flying off.

[11:50] Kitten: Oh, no! Were you hurt at all?

[11:53] Clucky: Not one bit. I landed in the soft, fluffy snow. Then Xander and I figured out that I needed to keep my wings tucked in. Then it was like I was in a dive like the mighty Peregrine Falcon.

[12:05] Amy Daniels: You know, they can reach speeds over 200 miles an hour when they dive for prey.

[12:10] Clucky: I've always admired those birds.

[12:13] Amy Daniels: Well, going down the sled, after I realized I'd live, I imagined I was a falcon diving down the mountain.

[12:20] Clucky: By golly, I can't wait to do it again.

[12:23] Amy Daniels: Maybe I will give it a try. You make it sound most brilliant.

[12:34] Rubix: Meowwy, look at that. It's all white out there.

[12:45] Rubix: Do you see? I bet if you went out there right now, we could not see you at all.

[12:51] Rubix: You're so white you'd blend in with all the snow.

[12:54] Rubix: Quick, open my cage door and we'll see. Tell me if you can find me.

[12:59] Amy Daniels: Nice try, Rubix.

[13:01] Clucky: Oh, come on, Kitten. What could it hurt?

[13:09] Amy Daniels: Kitten, are you awake? Did you see all the snow?

[13:13] Clucky: Oh, it's so exciting. I came down here to grab my hat and gloves and to see if you wanted to venture out with me.

[13:20] Rubix: Meow.

[13:22] Amy Daniels: You do? Great. Come on, let's go.

[13:25] Rubix: Oh, Rubix, you are up. Do you want to come out and explore too?

[13:29] Rubix: Squeak.

[13:31] Clucky: Escape opportunities abound.

[13:34] Amy Daniels: Let me grab your ball. You can climb in there.

[13:37] Rubix: Blasted ball.

[13:39] Clucky: No, I will think of it as my getaway to freedom.

[13:43] Amy Daniels: Meow, are you sure that's a good idea?

[13:47] Clucky: Don't interfere, Kitten.

[13:50] Amy Daniels: Oh, Kitten, you're worried.

[13:53] Clucky: Don't worry. She is secure in her ball.

[13:55] Amy Daniels: I'll bring Rubix in if she looks like she is too cold.

[13:59] Rubix: Meow, I'm watching you, Rubix.

[14:02] Rubix: Squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak.

[14:05] Clucky: Let's go. Xander already took the sled down to the chickens. Maybe we can catch up with them.

[14:26] Amy Daniels: Kitten, want to hop on the sled? I can pull you over to the top of the sled hill.

[14:31] Clucky: It's much faster to take a sled down to the chickens than walk through all the snow.

[14:35] Amy Daniels: We must have like six inches.

[14:38] Clucky: I'm not sure.

[14:40] Amy Daniels: Here, let me set you on. Don't worry. I'll pull it slowly until you get used to it.

[14:45] Clucky: Woof, woof, woof, woof, woof.

[14:48] Amy Daniels: Hi, Kitten. Isn't all this snow great?

[14:51] Clucky: Have you tried to bite it? It melts in your mouth.

[14:55] Amy Daniels: It's like water you can eat.

[14:57] Clucky: Good morning, Rosie. We are headed down to see the chickens.

[15:00] Amy Daniels: It seems like you are enjoying the snow.

[15:03] Clucky: Oh, my. It's so deep that you are having to jump through it.

[15:08] Clucky: Woof, woof, woof. Oh, yes. It's so fun.

[15:12] Amy Daniels: She is right, though. It's hard to walk in.

[15:15] Clucky: Jumping is working for me.

[15:18] Clucky: Ruff, ruff. Who goes there?

[15:21] Amy Daniels: Oh, Jack. You made it out.

[15:23] Clucky: Ruff.

[15:25] Amy Daniels: It's okay, Kitten. He cannot get out of the fenced yard.

[15:28] Clucky: Ruff, ruff, ruff. Invaders.

[15:31] Amy Daniels: Jack, stop your barking. It's just me.

[15:34] Clucky: Woof, woof, woof, woof. It's Maddox. Stop your barking, Jack.

[15:40] Amy Daniels: Huh? Who?

[15:42] Clucky: Aye, yi, yi.

[15:44] Amy Daniels: Oh, okay. Ruff.

[15:46] Clucky: Back inside to my nice warm bed.

[15:48] Amy Daniels: Bye, Jack and Rosie. We are off.

[15:51] Clucky: Oh, I wish I could come.

[15:55] Amy Daniels: Have fun.

[15:57] Clucky: See you soon, Rosie.

[15:59] Amy Daniels: Yeah, the sled is moving.

[16:03] Amy Daniels: We made it, Rubix and Kitten.

[16:05] Clucky: Wow, the hill down looks pretty steep.

[16:08] Amy Daniels: You can see Xander has made our path already.

[16:11] Clucky: Rubix, I'm going to set you down in the snow for a minute while I position the sled.

[16:14] Amy Daniels: Ha ha. Oh.

[16:17] Clucky: The ball won't move.

[16:19] Amy Daniels: Ugh. It's stuck in this deep snow.

[16:22] Clucky: Push, push. Oh, come on.

[16:26] Amy Daniels: There's a path to freedom right in front of me.

[16:29] Clucky: I just need to get this ball moving.

[16:32] Amy Daniels: Move. Oh, it budged.

[16:34] Clucky: Oh, a little more.

[16:36] Amy Daniels: Almost. Yes, I'm moving.

[16:39] Clucky: Yes, a little more now.

[16:41] Amy Daniels: I'm not moving.

[16:42] Clucky: A little more now.

[16:44] Amy Daniels: I'm really starting to move.

[16:46] Clucky: Oh, maybe too much.

[16:48] Amy Daniels: Oh, this hill is steep.

[16:50] Clucky: Oh, no. I'm losing control.

[16:52] Amy Daniels: Yeah, Rubix is getting away.

[16:55] Clucky: What is it, Kitten?

[16:57] Amy Daniels: Oh, no. Rubix, your ball is rolling down the hill.

[17:00] Clucky: Hold on, Kitten. We need to rescue her.

[17:02] Amy Daniels: Wait, what? Hold on? Hold on to what?

[17:05] Clucky: Ah, I'm losing control.

[17:08] Amy Daniels: Oh, ow, oh, ah.

[17:09] Clucky: Oh, slow it down. I'm gonna be sick.

[17:12] Amy Daniels: This ball is out of control.

[17:14] Clucky: Stop, Rubix. We're coming.

[17:17] Amy Daniels: Meow, I can wait up here.

[17:19] Clucky: Ah, this is rolling too fast. Meow.

[17:22] Amy Daniels: Sorry, Kitten. Normally sledding is fun, but we need to rescue Rubix.

[17:26] Clucky: Hold on. We are gaining on her.

[17:29] Amy Daniels: Make it stop. I'm rolling out of control.

[17:34] Clucky: Oh, oh, oh.

[17:36] Amy Daniels: Gotcha.

[17:37] Clucky: I think I'm going to be sick.

[17:40] Amy Daniels: Maddox, I have your hamster.

[17:43] Clucky: She does not look so good.

[17:48] Amy Daniels: Oh, Rubix, I had no idea you would start rolling down the hill.

[17:52] Clucky: I thought I had stuffed your ball pretty well in the snow.

[17:55] Amy Daniels: You poor baby.

[17:57] Clucky: Oh.

[18:00] Amy Daniels: Come on, self.

[18:02] Clucky: Pull it together.

[18:04] Amy Daniels: You're just a little dizzy.

[18:07] Clucky: Must escape.

[18:10] Amy Daniels: Oh, Rubix, I'd better take you up now.

[18:13] Clucky: You are swaying on your paws.

[18:15] Amy Daniels: I'm fine.

[18:19] Clucky: I'm not fine.

[18:21] Amy Daniels: That ride, the ride to get down here was just terrifying.

[18:25] Clucky: I was so scared I couldn't even meow.

[18:28] Amy Daniels: Oh, Kitten, you are shaking.

[18:30] Clucky: Did the sled ride down scare you?

[18:32] Amy Daniels: I'm so sorry. I had not planned on jumping on like that.

[18:34] Clucky: But we had to get Rubix.

[18:36] Amy Daniels: I'm getting off this sled.

[18:38] Clucky: What does that stand for anyway?

[18:40] Amy Daniels: Sled?

[18:42] Clucky: Speeding lethal evil death trap?

[18:44] Amy Daniels: Kitten, wasn't the sled ride amazing?

[18:47] Clucky: Amazingly horrific.

[18:49] Amy Daniels: I saw my whole life flash before me.

[18:51] Clucky: I was so scared I could barely scream.

[18:54] Amy Daniels: Oh, my.

[18:56] Clucky: My first time down I screamed and I flew off when my wings caught the air.

[19:00] Amy Daniels: First time?

[19:02] Clucky: You mean you did that more than once?

[19:04] Amy Daniels: Yeah, it was thrilling.

[19:06] Clucky: Well, after it was over, I realized I wasn't going to crash into a tree and die.

[19:11] Amy Daniels: I'm getting off this thing.

[19:13] Clucky: I never want to get back on.

[19:15] Amy Daniels: You might want to hop.

[19:17] Clucky: Meow.

[19:19] Amy Daniels: What? Meow.

[19:21] Clucky: Oh, I'm stuck. I can't move.

[19:23] Amy Daniels: Oh, this is awful.

[19:25] Clucky: I was trying to tell you, you can't jump off.

[19:27] Amy Daniels: I did that, too.

[19:29] Clucky: The snow is so deep that your paws probably don't reach the ground.

[19:31] Amy Daniels: Meow.

[19:32] Clucky: Meow.

[19:34] Amy Daniels: Oh, Kitten, did you jump off the sled?

[19:36] Clucky: It looks like you are stuck.

[19:39] Amy Daniels: Here, let me help you.

[19:41] Clucky: Meow.

[19:43] Amy Daniels: I'm going to place you back on the sled and I'll pull you back up.

[19:47] Clucky: Meow.

[19:49] Amy Daniels: Don't worry, it will be a slow walk back up.

[19:52] Clucky: I'll get you and Rubix settled back in my room before I head out.

[19:56] Amy Daniels: I think you have had enough sledding for one day.

[19:59] Clucky: Meow.

[20:00] Amy Daniels: Meow.

[20:02] Clucky: Bye, Kitten. I hope to see you soon.

[20:04] Amy Daniels: Please consider giving the sled another chance.

[20:06] Clucky: The hens and I would like to see you before all the snow melts.

[21:42] Clucky: Phone ringing

[21:45] Amy Daniels: Happy New Year. We asked for resolutions and you came through.

[21:50] Clucky: What's a resolution?

[21:53] Clucky: Charge!

[21:55] Amy Daniels: Whoa, whoa, whoa, Clucky.

[21:57] Clucky: Settle down.

[21:59] Amy Daniels: It's not a revolution.

[22:01] Clucky: It's a resolution.

[22:03] Amy Daniels: Oh, is there a difference?

[22:05] Clucky: Yes, a resolution is a choice or a decision.

[22:08] Amy Daniels: Many people make those at the start of a new year to help develop better habits or try something new.

[22:14] Clucky: A revolution is fighting against the powers of the day because you feel oppressed.

[22:18] Amy Daniels: Like in the American Revolution when the Americans fought against the British to gain the right to govern themselves and not be ruled by the British.

[22:26] Clucky: Oh, that's a big difference.

[22:29] Amy Daniels: I'm glad we don't have to go to battle.

[22:32] Clucky: Me too.

[22:34] Amy Daniels: Do you want to hear all the amazing resolutions that got sent our way?

[22:37] Clucky: You bet I do.

[22:39] Amy Daniels: I always love to hear from our listeners.

[22:41] Clucky: Many of our fans sent comments so you can help me read them.

[22:45] Amy Daniels: Oh, this is from Aurora.

[22:48] Clucky: She's from Florida and Portland, Oregon.

[22:50] Amy Daniels: She has resolved to explore more and learn more about Oregon and Washington.

[22:55] Clucky: Oh, that's a great idea.

[22:57] Amy Daniels: I want to do that too.

[22:59] Clucky: Our next one is from Adam in Hilton Head, North Carolina.

[23:02] Amy Daniels: He says, I resolve to help improve health care by participating in a successful group and development of an amazing company called True North Medical Physics.

[23:10] Clucky: Oh my, that sounds like really important work.

[23:13] Amy Daniels: Keep it up, Adam.

[23:15] Clucky: Way to go, Adam.

[23:16] Amy Daniels: The next one we're looking for is going to be amazing.

[23:19] Clucky: Oh wait, I have one more from our friends over at the Whoopie Chicken Podcast.

[23:23] Amy Daniels: That's a great name for a podcast.

[23:26] Clucky: Well, it's not really a resolution, but it's a great chicken joke.

[23:30] Amy Daniels: Can I share it?

[23:32] Clucky: Of course, we all love a chicken joke.

[23:34] Amy Daniels: What do chickens grow on?

[23:36] Clucky: I don't know.

[23:38] Amy Daniels: What?

[23:40] Clucky: Eggplants.

[23:42] Amy Daniels: Oh, I wonder what eggplant tastes like.

[23:44] Clucky: I need to try it.

[23:46] Amy Daniels: You don't eat egg, do you?

[23:48] Clucky: No, Clucky, it's not made out of egg.

[23:51] Amy Daniels: It comes from a plant.

[23:53] Clucky: It kind of looks like a purple zucchini.

[23:55] Amy Daniels: Mmm, can't wait to try it.

[23:57] Clucky: Thanks to all those who sent us your resolutions.

[24:00] Amy Daniels: Feel free to call into our show line also at 321-345-1544.

[24:05] Clucky: Have an amazing 2024.
