[1:42] Kitten: Of course we hear it! I think the whole neighborhood can hear that! Hee-haw! Hee-haw! It sounds sad. I wonder if it is a hurt or lost animal. Should we go check it out? The enclosure is open.

[2:00] Clucky: I don't know what it is. A dangerous animal?

[2:10] Kitten: Hee-haw! Hee-haw! Really, Clucky, does that sound dangerous? It sounds so sad. It makes me want to cry.

[2:18] Clucky: Some animals are known to act hurt or in distress as a way to lure their prey. In fact, there's a cat species in the Amazon rainforest called the margay. It looks like a small leopard or ocelot. It has the most beautiful spot pattern. Researchers have found that the margay can make sounds like a baby tamarin monkey, which will attract the adult monkeys to come and investigate. Then it will pounce.

[2:40] Kitten: Well, I have no idea what sounds a baby monkey would make, but I doubt it would be this loud. Hee-haw! Hee-haw! And ghastly. Can we please go check it out?

[2:57] Clucky: All right, I have an idea. The sound is coming from that direction, just past the big fallen tree. That should give us enough cover to go check it out. Everyone, follow me. Quietly.

[3:12] Kitten: Move your wing. I can't see.

[3:22] Clucky: Rock? Who just stepped on my tail feathers? Ladies, keep it down or it will know we're here.

[3:33] Kitten: Hee-haw! Hee-haw! I doubt he can hear anything over the racket he is making. What kind of animal do you think it is?

[3:39] Clucky: I'm not sure. It looks too small and fuzzy to be a horse. And it has very long, floppy ears. Hee-haw! Hee-haw!

[3:51] Kitten: What is that noise? Do you think it is ill?

[4:03] Clucky: No, it's praying. It appears to be a miniature donkey.

[4:17] Kitten: It's praying off-key? It looks more like it's crying to me, but it's certainly off-key.

[4:23] Clucky: What's off-key?

[4:28] Kitten: It means he sings very badly or out of tune, like Brigitte does sometimes.

[4:41] Clucky: Oh, no, Kitten, it's a donkey, not off-key, although it is that too. He is praying, not praying. Praying is the hee-haw sound that donkeys make.

[4:54] Kitten: Really, sometimes I think you should get your ears checked.

[5:04] Clucky: There is nothing wrong with my ears. Chickens have great hearing. That's how I could tell which direction the noise was coming from.

[5:10] Kitten: All of us could tell which direction the noise was coming from. It was not exactly quiet.

[5:32] Clucky: I'll have you know that chickens have much better low-frequency hearing than humans. We can hear low sounds that humans cannot even detect, and we can even tell how far away things are from us.

[5:54] Kitten: Really, I had no idea. Wow, a fact Kitten didn't know. This is an unusual day, indeed. Hee-haw! Hee-haw!

[6:02] Clucky: Oh, my, I wish he would stop with all that racket. How do we know it's a he?

[6:10] Kitten: We don't. Hush, now. I think he is saying something in all that bray. Hee-haw! Hee-haw! Hee-haw! Hee-haw!

[6:24] Clucky: Lonely, I'm so lonely. If only I had somebody. If only. Mercy's gone and I must go.

[6:52] Kitten: But I'm lonely, so lonely. Hee-haw! Hee-haw!

[7:06] Clucky: Oh, it's so sad. It sounds like he has lost someone close to him. Maybe we should stop hiding and go introduce ourselves.

[7:12] Kitten: I don't know, Clucky. It could be a trap, acting all sad and lonely to get us to drop our guard like one of those margays that you mentioned.

[7:23] Clucky: Hee-haw! What shall I do? I'm so lonely without you.

[7:32] Kitten: Oh, have a heart, Clucky. Look at him. He's not even that big, and he has hooves, not claws and flat teeth. He does not seem like a predator. Even his ears are sad, all drooped down by his face. Kitten has scarier teeth than him.

[7:45] Clucky: Now, Brigadier, you make some very good points, but it's my job to keep you all safe. And he's a very loud and strange creature.

[7:56] Kitten: Now, hold on, Clucky. We can certainly look after ourselves.

[8:03] Clucky: Kitten is right. We are not a bunch of damsels in distress.

[8:13] Pharrell: Did I hear Mon Petit is in distress? Never fear. Pharrell is here to save the day. Yo!

[8:20] Clucky: Brock! Oh, my tail feathers! Pharrell! By my beak! Oh, my, Pharrell. You startled us. Where did you come from?

[8:27] Pharrell: I heard all this commotion and thought Mon Cherie might be in danger. With quick and light steps, I found my way to you. Where was your excellent hearing then, Clucky?

[8:38] Clucky: Well, there's a lot going on. Even I miss things. Hee-haw! Is somebody there?

[8:46] Pharrell: Oh, now you've done it, Pharrell. We've been discovered. How was I to know you were all hiding? Was it obvious we're all crouched behind this fallen log?

[8:56] Clucky: Well, now that you mention it, we, it would seem so. I'm sorry if I frightened you. Please come out.

[9:06] Pharrell: I'm sorry I was so loud. Why are you all staring at each other? Come on. He is in need of our help and friendship. I'm going to say hi.

[9:18] Clucky: Bella, maybe we should all be quiet and he'll go away.

[8:51] Perry: Oh, I did hear something. I was afraid it was my imagination. Sorry for carrying on so much. Yeehaw! It's been a rough day.

[9:05] Bella: Hi, I'm Bella. I'm sorry it took us so long to come out and greet you. We were not sure at first if you were dangerous.

[9:12] Perry: Yeehaw! Yeehaw! Me? Dangerous? Yeehaw! That's the first laugh I've had in a while. No one ever thinks I'm dangerous.

[9:25] Brigitte: Well, you are a lot bigger than us, so we need to be careful.

[9:30] Perry: Oh my, how many of you are there? Were you all hiding behind that tray?

[9:35] Clucky: There are six of us, so don't you go getting any wild ideas. We all have claws, beaks, and teeth, and we're not afraid to use them if need be.

[11:19] Pharrell: I was sent by Clucky to defend all of my friends. So, on guard!

[11:32] Clucky: I don't see Pharrell building any fences here, Kitten.

[11:34] Kitten: Fencing. A sport using swords that originated in Italy during the Renaissance and was perfected by the French.

[11:44] Brigitte: Now, let's get back to Perry. What's going on, Perry?

[11:48] Perry: I'm not sure I know where to begin.

[11:52] Brigitte: I find the beginning is always best.

[11:55] Perry: Okay. Well, as far back as I can remember, it was always me and Percy.

[12:00] Clucky: Perry and Percy, the power team.

[12:04] Perry: When we were little, we always used to run and play together.

[12:09] Perry: We did everything together.

[12:12] Perry: We ate together. We took naps together.

[12:16] Perry: Played and even learned to pull a cart together.

[12:20] Perry: When we were full grown, we moved together to a new farm.

[12:24] Perry: And Mama and Papa stayed at the old farm.

[12:27] Perry: At the new farm was where we learned to pull a cart.

[12:31] Perry: They had a nice young daughter, Ella, who worked with us.

[12:35] Perry: And we would pull our little cart.

[12:38] Perry: She would ride in the cart and we would deliver eggs to all the neighbors.

[12:43] Perry: We met so many people and we had such a great time together.

[12:47] Brigitte: Well, that sounds great. How did you end up here? It's so sad.

[12:51] Perry: It was wonderful, but it was many years ago.

[12:55] Brigitte: What made things go so wrong?

[12:58] Perry: Time.

[13:00] Brigitte: Time? What do you mean?

[13:03] Perry: Ella grew up. She got busy with school and other things.

[13:07] Perry: And did not have time to hitch us up to the cart and make deliveries.

[13:12] Perry: Eventually, they moved the chickens to a new farm.

[13:16] Perry: And Percy and I were put out to pasture.

[13:19] Brigitte: Put out to pasture? What does this mean?

[13:21] Kitten: It means to bring animals into a large area of land to feed on the grass there. For example, to put the sheep out to pasture. Or it can also have another meaning, to force someone to leave a job because of old age. However, that doesn't seem to apply here.

[13:36] Perry: Oh, Kitten. You astonish me with your vast knowledge on so many things.

[13:41] Perry: Not only are you beautiful, but you take my breath away with the things that you say.

[13:46] Kitten: Ha! Thank you.

[13:48] Kitten: I just read a lot with Maddox.

[13:50] Perry: Who is Maddox?

[13:52] Kitten: She's my most special human.

[13:55] Kitten: I live with her in her room, and she takes care of me.

[13:58] Kitten: We spend a lot of time reading together.

[14:00] Kitten: Maddox likes books on all subjects.

[14:03] Kitten: We have the best time together.

[14:05] Perry: She sounds a little like Ella.

[14:08] Perry: She liked to read too.

[14:32] Perry: Several months ago, he was not feeling well, and the farmer took him to the vet.

[14:40] Brigitte: The farmer did not come tell you what is happening or if he's coming back?

[14:43] Perry: Not that I could understand.

[14:46] Perry: The farmer talks really low and mumbles, and I can't always understand what he's saying.

[14:52] Perry: And it's not like I can ask him to repeat himself.

[14:56] Brigitte: That is so frustrating. Is that why you ran away?

[15:00] Perry: Who says I ran away?

[15:03] Brigitte: It seems a little obvious.

[15:05] Brigitte: We can tell you're not used to surviving on your own.

[15:08] Brigitte: You do not have that survival instinct.

[15:11] Perry: What do you mean, I can survive on my own?

[15:15] Brigitte: I find that hard to believe. You're far too loud.

[15:19] Brigitte: You would attract many predators if you continued to carry on like that.

[15:23] Pharrell: Rell is right.

[15:25] Pharrell: You probably are lucky we're the first creatures to find you, and not a pack of coyotes.

[15:29] Perry: Coyotes? Oh, I do not like those guys.

[15:34] Perry: We had a couple come near our pasture once.

[15:36] Perry: They snarled and growled, but then the farmer came out and scared them away.

[15:41] Perry: You think they'll come after me?

[15:44] Brigitte: You're pretty safe during the day.

[15:46] Brigitte: But I would suggest you make it back home before dark.

[15:49] Brigitte: That's usually when they're out hunting.

[15:51] Perry: Oh, I don't know if I can go home.

[15:56] Perry: Oh, it would be too embarrassing.
