Hello, friends! How are you? Welcome back to another live episode of The Art of Kindness - the AOK. Today we are spotlighting what’s positively the sweetest night on Broadway and our final awards show of the season - the 2024 National High School Musical Theatre Awards a.k.a. the Jimmy Awards. And Jiminy crickets was it a magical evening!
Named in honor of theater impresario James M. Nederlander, this prestigious annual event showcases the finest young talent from high school theater programs across the country. Participants compete for scholarships and national recognition through rigorous performance and training sessions led by Broadway professionals.
The event culminates in a spectacular awards ceremony at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre - home to the Lion King - ahhh… where the best performers are honored, and the next generation of Broadway stars is born.
Seriously - Jimmys alum include folks like Eva Noblezada, Renee Rapp, and Andrew Barth Feldman, who we go to catch up with on the red carpet. That’s right - this little muppet was back on the carpet (shoutout to my friend, fellow muppet Mikayla Petrilla for her assistance).
From booming baritones like Josh Groban (Sweeney Todd) to Disney legends like Kenny Oretga (High School Musical and Hocus Pocus) to Broadway stars like Casey Likes (Back to the Future), we talked big dreams, high school theatre and, of course, kindness with some pretty cool peeps.
