About

August Wilson (1945–2005) was one of America's greatest playwrights, best known for the ten-play American Century Cycle (the Pittsburgh Cycle) that chronicles the African American experience across the 20th century. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama twice, for Fences and The Piano Lesson. His 1988 drama Joe Turner's Come and Gone, set in a 1911 Pittsburgh boardinghouse, returns to Broadway in 2026 in a revival directed by Debbie Allen.
