Actress Irene Sofia Lucio joins Behind the Awards to talk about playing Isidora in Bess Wohl’s Liberation. Irene discusses auditioning for the role backstage at Slave Play on The West End. She also shares how this play feels like a love letter to her mother and her unique perspective as a new mother. Irene of course uncovers what performing nude on a Broadway stage feels like and how it has impacted her on a deeper level.

Irene Sofia Lucio is an actress, writer and producer. Lucio is known for her role as Patricia in the Broadway production of Slave Play, in which she also appeared off Broadway. She also appeared in Liberation's Off-Broadway world premiere, winning Drama Desk and New York Drama Critic's Circle Awards for Outstanding Ensemble alongside her fellow cast members.
Other stage credits included Wit on Broadway and Off-Broadway productions such as Love & Information at New York Theatre Workshop, King Liz at Second Stage Theater, and Romeo y Julieta at The Public Theater. She has appeared on TV shows like The Americans, Bartlett, Madam Secretary, Gossip Girl, and Casi Casi, and she co-created the web series BUTS, which won an NBCU Short Film Festival Award and earned an Imagen Award nomination.
She is in pre-production of an animated series and developing several TV shows. A member of the Actor’s Center, she graduated from Princeton University and the Yale School of Drama. She is originally from San Juan, PR.
