[0:00] Andrew: We've got a mission to find the best song that's ever been on Glee.
[0:09] Andrew: There's no rhyme or reason to it, so don't get mad at me.
[0:18] Andrew: Glacket by Glacket, we'll rank everyone to see which song will move closer to spot number one.
[0:26] Andrew: Gleek of the Week, Gleek, Gleek, Gleek of the Week. It's Gleek, Gleek of the Week.
[0:34] Andrew: Oh my god, oh my god, oh wow. These little pairings I'm having way too much fun with because I'm just like, what if I just have an excuse to just like have fun, talk about Glee with my friends who can really talk about Glee and force them to all meet each other? And so this is exactly what today's episode and every other episode is. Returning Glacketers, ladies first, Allyson Alamode, how are you doing?
[1:01] Allyson Alamode: I'm good, I'm great. How are you guys?
[1:10] Andrew: So good, very, very excited. Other panelists this week, other panelists? That makes it sound so official. Other Gleek this week, Aman from the Choir Room and also the Diary Room, how are things?
[1:16] Aman: Yes, I am great. I'm glad to be back talking all things Glee. I love Glee. I haven't talked about Glee since the last time I was on this show, so I'm excited to be back.
[1:27] Andrew: Before we get into all things Glee, how are things going with Diary Room?
[1:33] Aman: It's been pretty amazing thus far. I'm sure you guys have already kind of talked about it when Matt's been on it last, but yeah, we sort of stole the idea and took the Glee skin off and replaced it with a Big Brother skin and it's been fun. I can't even be mad because it just proves that this sort of concept framing works, that it's like, oh, you could just use it like that. And I'm like, just run with it.
[2:06] Andrew: Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly. Perfect. Okay, so starting every episode with Glackett, Hot Takes, Allyson, take me through, before we started recording, you started sharing your listening experience of last week's episode. Just catch everybody up.
[2:22] Allyson Alamode: So I was trying to catch up and I caught the last competition, but I didn't get to finish, so I don't know what went through.
[2:28] Andrew: Okay, so that is Just The Way You Are, season two, versus Being Alive. And wait, just take me through, what are your thoughts on that competition?
[2:42] Allyson Alamode: I feel like people go up for Being Alive so much, and I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing, because I am not that big of a Being Alive Gleecast version by Gleecast fan.
[2:58] Andrew: Okay, okay, okay. Amon, do you have an interjection?
[3:03] Aman: I mean, that's fair, because I listened to most of the Glee covers before I actually ever sat down and actually listened to Company for myself. So I have much more of an attachment to the Glee versions, so I can definitely see why Chris Colfer, his little version, might not compare to some of our esteemed performers on Broadway. But I don't know, I still feel like even with that, for me personally, it just packs more of a punch for me than Just The Way You Are does. I know that Just The Way You Are, the context of it is so cute and everything, but I don't know. You said this was your favorite follow, and Andrew and I, I don't know about that one. I don't know.
[3:45] Allyson Alamode: Oh, wait, what? Okay, well, what is your favorite follow?
[3:49] Aman: I don't know if I have an answer for you.
[3:50] Allyson Alamode: It's definitely not Just The Way You Are.
[3:53] Aman: But I know that it's not Just The Way You Are. That one does not spring to mind most of the time, no.
[4:00] Andrew: Wait, so Allyson, you have not even made a decision on what you would have voted for, or?
[4:05] Allyson Alamode: Well, now I'm listening, and I'm really thinking through, and I'm thinking of the context of Just The Way You Are versus Being Alive. And I feel like it was very, like, oh, now what? Finn is not homophobic anymore? Okay, sure.
[4:20] Aman: Right.
[4:22] Allyson Alamode: And then you have Kurt getting into Nyada. And I feel like if it was in this episode, now I may have been swayed to vote for Being Alive.
[4:35] Andrew: Yeah. Someone, before I reveal what voted, or what went through, wait, because Aman, you actually did listen to the entire, you know the results. Okay.
[4:44] Aman: I do.
[4:45] Andrew: Allyson is still in the dark, and I just want to keep the shadows as long as possible.
[4:49] Aman: So someone brought up last week, during that livestream episode in the chat, but I forgot to, you know, say it aloud. Someone brought up that was like, Kurt didn't need to go to Nyada to have, like, a satisfying New York plot, which has, like, really stuck with me. But I'm like, that's, like, a really good point. It, like, they really presented it as Nyada or nothing. And I think that was, like, a fault in hindsight. You know, like, he could have just been Gal Palin at Vogue, you know?
[5:22] Allyson Alamode: I was gonna say, that's, like, kind of the stakes that they put for the entire Glee cast.
[5:26] Aman: New York or nothing.
[5:27] Allyson Alamode: New York or nothing, yeah.
[5:27] Aman: So it was kind of, like, them trying to weave all these plot lines in, because, like, I guess I kind of liked the convoluted Vogue internship, but then they just had to, I don't know.
[5:39] Allyson Alamode: Yeah.
[5:40] Aman: But raise the stakes, I guess.
[5:43] Allyson Alamode: Yeah, I agree. I feel like I remember watching season four and becoming so much more invested, even in as little as two episodes, Kurt's whole Vogue storyline. I think that, obviously, they sped up his and, oh my god, what is Sarah Jessica Parker's character's name again?
[6:02] Aman: Carrie Bradshaw.
[6:02] Allyson Alamode: Yeah, Carrie Bradshaw. Isabel, I'm so surprised that you forgot Queen Isabel's name.
[6:08] Aman: No, it's okay.
[6:09] Allyson Alamode: Isabel.
[6:10] Aman: I'm a little rusty.
[6:10] Allyson Alamode: Right, Isabel Wright, everyone's favorite character. I feel like they sped up, like, their closeness. Like, I mean, they were already, like, having kikis by Thanksgiving. I'm like, if y'all would have drawn this out a little bit more, this could have been an interesting alternative to Kurt's storyline. Because we hear him talk about it, like, when he gets Neada, we hear him talk about it on the back burner. Like, oh, well, I have this thing with Isabel, or something going on at Vogue. And I'm like, I'm more interested in that, not this Neada stuff. Just have that Rachel stuff, and Kurt can do whatever he wants to. And that could be his whole being alive. It's like, it's more than just Neada. It's about finding my own life here.
[6:49] Aman: And I think that was, like, ultimately a detriment. And again, Allyson, we are just keeping you in the dark with the results here. But, like, I just, like, it bothered me, because I'll bring it up every time that we talk about, like, Rachel's dads, or, like, Artie's mom, like, being played by, like, these notable actors that, like, we're in tune as the audience. We know that, like, once you say that, like, Jeff Goldblum is the main character's dad, we know that he is out the door as quick as he walked in. So it's like, so with Sarah Jessica Parker being, like, oh, like, oh, this is my co-worker, you know, like, this is Kurt's co-worker, like, it's like, okay, we know that she's not going to, like, be in every episode like that, you know?
[7:32] Allyson Alamode: Okay. Anything else? Can we draw it out any further without revealing any further points?
[7:42] Aman: I don't think so.
[7:45] Allyson Alamode: You can tell me. I don't mind it being spoiled.
[7:47] Andrew: Okay. So the results were Claudia voted for Being Alive. I voted for Just The Way You Are. And then the Gleek in the live stream voted for Being Alive. And people are really torn. Like, I'm in the Patreon group chat, people are going crazy on both sides. So what do you feel like there are better finolos, like, folos, I think folos.
[8:17] Aman: There are better folos. But you know, I'm a sucker for, like, the context of the number. And they both have, they both hold weight. But I think if we're judging based on, like, performance, I do love Kurt performances in his lower register. Like, I love numbers in his lower register more than I, they have him, like, you know, singing songs that are traditionally sung higher.
[8:35] Allyson Alamode: Yeah.
[8:35] Aman: So I guess I would have voted the same.
[8:48] Allyson Alamode: Yeah, yeah, I think I just, yeah, I feel like Being Alive, just, I love sort of, like, how, like, there's like, this, like, raw emotional energy to it. And we don't really get a lot of those numbers from him in later seasons, I don't feel. So it was just nice that that was sort of, like, a nice little capstone for, like, that part of section or season four.
[9:10] Aman: Right, right.
[9:13] Allyson Alamode: Is that the performance with Alice in it? Or is that a Rachel?
[9:16] Aman: Alice? No, Alice is there for from
[9:19] Allyson Alamode: She's there for the whole thing.
[9:20] Aman: The whole thing.
[9:20] Allyson Alamode: Okay. So bonus points for Glee Project.
[9:23] Aman: Right. We got some representation there as well for the Glee Project. Allyson, are there other Glackett competitions since your last appearance that you would like to shed light on in this moment?
[9:33] Allyson Alamode: I don't usually I'm, like, whenever it happens, there's nothing that really shakes me to my core. So I'm glad that I'm glad that hasn't happened yet. And then I did listen to like, there's still a chance for Drumpf versus Drumpf. And I'm like, I don't know what I would do. I mean, well, actually, yes, I do. That's a lie. But I don't know.
[9:51] Andrew: Wait, what would you vote? Who's who's Drumpf?
[9:55] Allyson Alamode: I would be more excited for the discussion to come from that because I'm willing to hear people out. Like I, the Santana version is an always listen. But I feel like the original Drumpf is what got me like, hooked on to like, I was already locked in. But I was like, what is like, I was, that changed me for sure.
[10:17] Aman: I will say that last thing that I watched before getting into the Zoom today, because I always like to get myself into a glee mood, be like excited to talk about glee before talking about glee. And so the last thing that I watched was just their season one sectionals performance. I am ready. I'm very equipped to talk about Drumpf. I have so many things that I'm like, ready to talk about. So I'm like, kind of hoping but like, now it's not going to happen. Of course, I could only be so fortunate if that was pulled. But I, you know, I mean, if we're talking about what we're manifesting, I wouldn't mind discussing Christmas songs with Aman, because I also am a glee Christmas fan.
[11:00] Aman: I'm trying to think like what other, I know that we have first winner of a, any Glackett, any Glackett competition. Here comes Santa Claus, still in the running, which would be major TBT. But I'm like, not sure what other Christmas songs we have in the rotation, because we have now we're, we're down last Christmas. I think that we have Aman, actually your round one Glackett episode, Welcome Christmas one. And so we still have her around as well.
[11:32] Allyson Alamode: Yeah, which one is Welcome Christmas?
[11:35] Aman: Welcome Christmas.
[11:39] Allyson Alamode: Oh, the Grinch one.
[11:40] Aman: The Grinch. Yeah.
[11:42] Allyson Alamode: Okay.
[11:43] Aman: I take it that you don't.
[11:47] Allyson Alamode: I think it was just one. Let me think if I can think from memory, like, what was you had I Follow Rivers versus Don't Stop Believing.
[11:56] Aman: Okay, I remember that now.
[11:57] Allyson Alamode: You had Be Okay versus Loser Like Me season two.
[12:03] Aman: Yes, yes, yes, yes.
[12:04] Allyson Alamode: I got all six. Welcome Christmas versus Grease Lightning.
[12:08] Aman: Got it. Okay.
[12:09] Allyson Alamode: Okay. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I had to, I had to give, you know, Christmas songs a little of I'm Always Going To, I mean, obviously depends on what they're up against. But if I can sneak them through, I'm gonna sneak them through.
[12:22] Aman: Right.
[12:22] Allyson Alamode: I'm gonna shove them in my stocking.
[12:24] Aman: Um, speaking of Glackett, everything, Aman, what are, what are you thinking of since the last time you were on any Glackett discrepancies?
[12:36] Aman: The, I was, what did I just look at?
[12:39] Aman: Um, I am a little sad to see.
[12:46] Aman: Oh my god, I just saw it and I scrolled away from it.
[12:49] Aman: Oh, well, shout out.
[12:50] Aman: First of all, shout out to Matt for giving me Cherish Cherish.
[12:56] Aman: Oh my gosh, Cherish Cherish. I am so glad that we're aligned on this. Nobody else gets her.
[13:02] Allyson Alamode: I love that.
[13:06] Aman: Finally.
[13:07] Aman: I absolutely love it. I love the combination of voices on it. It's just such a snapshot of season three in time. It's like, I just, I love that entire setup. So shout out to Matt because he could very well have not voted that through, but he did.
[13:25] Andrew: Oh, oh, I'll-
[13:26] Aman: Before you go, Allyson, what is your opinion on Cherish Cherish?
[13:31] Allyson Alamode: I, that's one of the songs that Glee has that is to me an original song. Because I do not know either of the originals.
[13:39] Aman: So as far as I'm concerned, Cherish Cherish, they're doing original songs.
[13:44] Allyson Alamode: They're doing original songs.
[13:45] Aman: Um, and over Come What May, like I, I, that's not really the version I listened to.
[13:54] Allyson Alamode: So I also probably would have voted for Cherish Cherish.
[13:56] Aman: Oh, thank you.
[13:57] Allyson Alamode: Perfect.
[13:59] Aman: Yay.
[14:00] Andrew: Great. Amon, back to you.
[14:01] Aman: I was gonna say, I did find a scrolling another competition that I was like-
[14:07] Allyson Alamode: Wait, do you want to interject now?
[14:09] Aman: No, go ahead, Amon.
[14:11] Aman: Um, this is, people are not gonna agree with me on this one, but I don't give a damn. I'm mad about TikTok losing to Take Me or Leave Me.
[14:19] Allyson Alamode: I am. There, I said it. I said it.
[14:22] Aman: I think it's just such an iconic Britney performance.
[14:25] Allyson Alamode: Okay, okay.
[14:26] Aman: Um, I love the whole, I love that it's, supposedly about the song, right? But I just love like the scene leading up to it where Rachel is giving them cough syrup mixed with Oreos and the rest of the alcohol slush.
[14:39] Aman: And Britney has the nerve to say at the end of that performance, everybody drink responsibly. I just, there's just something so iconic about the performance and the choreography that they were executing while they were so fucked up.
[14:50] Aman: Um, excuse me, while they were so turnt up.
[14:52] Andrew: No, go ahead. You know that you can curse.
[14:56] Aman: Ugh.
[14:58] Aman: I love it. I love it. The stakes for me are higher in that performance than they are for "Take Me or Leave Me."
[15:04] Allyson: That's a good point. I think, yeah, that's a depending on the day, I could see myself voting differently, you know?
[15:13] Aman: But they're at a similar tier, like, caliber.
[15:17] Allyson: For sure.
[15:18] Aman: Are there any other ones, Aman?
[15:20] Allyson: We can switch back to Allyson.
[15:22] Aman: Now, I don't remember the discourse for this competition, but just based on looking at the list, I hate "It's Not Right But It's Okay."
[15:34] Allyson: Wait, why?
[15:36] Aman: I don't know. Sometimes when it's very soulful songs that get Glee-ified, even though it's camp, it's funny.
[15:48] Allyson: And the scene leading up to that, I think about that scene all the time.
[15:53] Aman: With the cheese board.
[15:56] Allyson: And he's like, it's okay, it's okay. And Blaine, very dramatically, it's not right. Or whatever. And I'm like, that's what makes it camp. Because without that scene, it's not a good cover.
[16:10] Aman: This song is for anyone who's been cheated on.
[16:13] Allyson: I did not cheat on you.
[16:15] Aman: Cheaters have the fastest land speed of any mammal. No, I think it's iconic. I could see it.
[16:22] Allyson: But also, I am a "What It Feels Like to Be a Girl" stan.
[16:26] Aman: Oh, okay. You and Allyson Dodge have that in common.
[16:29] Allyson: I was going to say, I feel like Allyson as well. Whenever she talked about it, I was like, yes, rise, a "What It Feels Like to Be a Girl."
[16:35] Aman: I love that cover. I don't know. People don't like it. That's what the streets are saying. If it has no fans, I'm dead.
[16:43] Allyson: It's an acquired taste.
[16:44] Aman: It may be.
[16:45] Allyson: At least for me. Aman, do you have any opinions on "What It Feels Like for a Girl"?
[16:51] Aman: I feel like I would have probably just given it to Blaine here.
[16:56] Allyson: But I echo you, Allyson. I feel like, I mean, first of all, it's Whitney Houston, right?
[17:00] Aman: No one's ever going to be able to replicate the melismatic majesty of Whitney Houston.
[17:06] Allyson: So even with Darren Criss trying to go for all of those runs, it's just never going to happen.
[17:12] Aman: And that's for anybody because it's Whitney Houston.
[17:15] Allyson: So I agree with you on that. But I think I'd probably prefer this over "What a Girl."
[17:21] Aman: What it's like to be a girl, rather.
[17:23] Allyson: What a Girl wants.
[17:25] Aman: Rachel with a hairbrush. Exactly.
[17:28] Allyson: Wait, so do we have more from either? Or have we exhausted both lists?
[17:37] Aman: I'm shocked that mine didn't go through over "To Serve With Love."
[17:41] Allyson: But I'm happy with that because I love "To Serve With Love."
[17:46] Aman: I feel like mine is like, people hold that number very high.
[17:50] Allyson: So just looking at that, I'm like, wow.
[17:53] Aman: After this episode, it will be another seven episodes that have gone by.
[17:59] Allyson: And so with today's competitions, we will have the full list of 21 songs that are eligible to come back in this patron competition.
[18:10] Aman: So we'll see.
[18:12] Allyson: Well, I feel like mine is still in the lead, considering the 18 that we have now.
[18:18] Aman: Matt told me about this.
[18:23] Allyson: And I was like, well, I mean, "To Serve With Love."
[18:27] Aman: If mine had to get slain by anything, I'm fine.
[18:31] Allyson: I love "To Serve With Love."
[18:33] Aman: And Matt was not pleased.
[18:35] Allyson: He was very upset that he had given me "Cherish, Cherish."
[18:39] Aman: And I had had such a flippant response.
[18:41] Allyson: But I was like, it's probably going to win in the battle back. We'll be fine.
[18:45] Aman: It's a battle back.
[18:46] Allyson: It's okay.
[18:48] Aman: Wait, so what are we?
[18:50] Allyson: Allison, you manifested already.
[18:53] Aman: Either Dromp V. Dromp.
[18:55] Allyson: Dromp V. Dromp.
[18:56] Aman: Okay.
[18:57] Allyson: Something, like, I feel like I want something that we can discuss and minds can be changed and swayed, like something that will shake the Gleeks up.
[19:08] Aman: I, it's really crazy. I'm not actually even sure, like, how many songs are left in round two.
[19:14] Allyson: But it's like, I know that it's like around like 15 episodes, 15 times three.
[19:20] Aman: What is that? 45.
[19:22] Allyson: 45.
[19:23] Aman: Wait, that can't be. No, 15 times six.
[19:26] Allyson: There are six songs in each episode, in my mind. I was like, wait, there can't be.
[19:31] Aman: There we go. Thank you.
[19:33] Allyson: There are, so now less than 100 songs in, left in round two.
[19:38] Aman: And there are so many heavy hitters, like, left.
[19:41] Allyson: We still have "Paradise By The Dashboard Light." We still have "Somebody To Love." We still have "My Man."
[19:47] Aman: Both Dromps.
[19:48] Allyson: We still have "It's All Coming Back To Me Now." We have, like, so many big numbers left.
[19:54] Aman: I thought it was interesting looking that, funnily enough, we got, like, a lot of the more solos out of the way.
[20:01] Allyson: But a lot of, like, the iconic Santolos and Rolos are still around, which is a little spooky scary.
[20:11] Aman: Yeah.
[20:12] Allyson: Especially if they're up against each other.
[20:14] Aman: We've seen that before.
[20:16] Allyson: Right.
[20:17] Aman: Yeah.
[20:18] Allyson: Like, okay, like, what if it was "My Man," like, versus, like, what would you say?
[20:22] Aman: Do you happen to know what's left of Santana?
[20:25] Allyson: Like, "My Man." We have, like, "Valerie" or "Back to Black." We have "Not Bush City Limits." We have "Coldhearted." Like, it's like...
[20:31] Aman: "My Man" versus "Valerie." Don't even.
[20:33] Allyson: I can't.
[20:34] Aman: Right.
[20:35] Allyson: Right.
[20:36] Aman: Or we might be ready to fight.
[20:38] Allyson: "My Man" versus "Valerie." I couldn't even tell you.
[20:40] Aman: I think I know.
[20:42] Allyson: It's...
[20:43] Aman: I'm pulling the V card.
[20:46] Allyson: Yes.
[20:47] Aman: I need to.
[20:48] Allyson: Sorry, "My Man."
[20:50] Aman: Maybe.
[20:51] Allyson: Oh.
[20:52] Aman: Okay.
[20:53] Allyson: Scared.
[20:54] Aman: I feel like now that we've said it into existence, it can happen.
[20:59] Allyson: Right?
[21:00] Aman: Yeah.
[21:01] Allyson: This might be a fiery podcast if certain combinations arise.
[21:05] Aman: Okay.
[21:06] Allyson: Oh, my gosh. Aman, what do you want?
[21:10] Aman: Yeah.
[21:11] Allyson: You know, I echo Allison. I just kind of want something that is contentious.
[21:18] Aman: I have opinions about all songs.
[21:20] Allyson: So, like, it doesn't really matter what it is for me.
[21:23] Aman: That's why you keep on coming back.
[21:25] Allyson: Yeah.
[21:26] Aman: I just want it to be contentious, and I want it to be something that is to be debated forever and ever and ever.
[21:32] Allyson: Right.
[21:33] Aman: Right.
[21:34] Allyson: You want to make...
[21:35] Aman: I hate that they're called this again, but you want to make the minors upset.
[21:39] Allyson: The minors.
[21:40] Aman: Yeah.
[21:41] Allyson: The minors.
[21:42] Aman: Yes.
[21:43] Allyson: I will fight the minors.
[21:46] Aman: I'm not opposed.
[21:47] Allyson: Okay.
[21:48] Aman: This is an interesting one.
[21:50] Allyson: I like this.
[21:51] Aman: Ooh.
[21:52] Allyson: Ooh.
[21:53] Aman: Season five.
[21:55] Allyson: Okay.
[21:56] Aman: Okay.
[21:57] Allyson: You're familiar.
[21:59] Aman: Is it New York era season five?
[22:02] Allyson: It is.
[22:03] Aman: Is it McKinley era season five?
[22:06] Allyson: They're in McKinley, but there is a New York character present.
[22:10] Aman: Do you know what it is?
[22:12] Allyson: Oh, is it the, like, oh, you have to go off to New York?
[22:16] Aman: No, because that's season four.
[22:18] Allyson: What is this?
[22:19] Aman: Oh, then the Beatles one.
[22:20] Allyson: The Beatles.
[22:21] Aman: Yes.
[22:22] Allyson: Get You Into My Mind?
[22:24] Aman: Got to Get You Into My Mind.
[22:25] Allyson: Yes.
[22:26] Aman: Yes.
[22:27] Allyson: There we go.
[22:28] Aman: There we go.
[22:29] Allyson: I was alone. I took a ride. I didn't know what I would find there.
[22:34] Aman: Another road where maybe I could see another kind of mind there.
[22:41] Allyson: Ooh.
[22:42] Aman: Then I suddenly see you.
[22:44] Allyson: Ooh.
[22:45] Aman: Did I tell you I need you every single day of my life?
[22:55] Allyson: Got to get you into my life.
[23:04] Aman: What can I do? What can I be when I'm with you?
[23:07] Allyson: I want to stay there.
[23:13] Aman: If I'm true, I'll never leave. And if I do, I know the way there.
[23:20] Allyson: Ooh.
[23:21] Aman: Then I suddenly see you.
[23:23] Allyson: Ooh.
[23:24] Aman: Did I tell you I need you every single day of my life?
[23:34] Allyson: Got to get you into my life.
[23:48] Aman: Got to get you into my life.
[23:58] Allyson: I was alone. I took a ride. I didn't know what I would find there.
[24:04] Aman: Another road where maybe I could see another kind of mind there.
[24:09] Allyson: And suddenly I see you.
[24:13] Aman: Did I tell you I need you?
[24:16] Allyson: Ooh.
[24:17] Aman: I got to get you into my life.
[24:21] Allyson: Okay. What are we thinking? Who wants to open the discourse?
[24:25] Aman: You can go first, Siobhan.
[24:28] Allyson: Um.
[24:29] Aman: Do you not like this?
[24:33] Allyson: It's fine. It's whatever.
[24:35] Aman: I, I, I, look. Matt and I, when we covered all these episodes over at the choir room, we notoriously were not so high on either of the Beatles episodes.
[24:48] Allyson: And I think a lot of it has to do with the reason is that I didn't really grow up with a lot of Beatles. Like, obviously, everybody knows who the Beatles are. And everyone is familiar with at least one or two of their songs. I mean, how could you not be? It's the Beatles.
[25:00] Aman: Um. But with that being said, the Gleadles, as it were, is just never really been my tea.
[25:05] Allyson: I'm surprised they didn't do that, by the way.
[25:07] Aman: Yeah. I'm surprised they didn't do that either. Maybe it was a copyright thing. I don't know.
[25:11] Allyson: I don't know. I just, um. I, I, I'm just not moved by it.
[25:16] Aman: I guess I wonder. I feel like the event that is the Beatles was sort of wasted on season five.
[25:22] Allyson: And I'm a lot higher on season five than I think most people are.
[25:26] Aman: But I just feel like it did not pack the punch that I think that the Beatles, quite frankly, deserves, even though I'm not really a big fan.
[25:33] Allyson: I just think that a lot of the storylines that are surrounded the songs just were not. It was whatever to me.
[25:39] Aman: I don't know. I don't know. I'm not saying that I like the Gleadles.
[25:44] Allyson: Um, I, I, but this song in particular is like maybe I like this one.
[25:49] Aman: Like, there are a few Beatles covers that they do that, like, you know, rise above the stupid, the stupidity of the episode, you know, like, I, like, "Let It Be." I think that's cute. I like a "Hey Jude."
[26:04] Allyson: Um, like "Yesterday." I really enjoy, like, this song.
[26:08] Aman: "Yesterday" was done very well.
[26:09] Allyson: Right.
[26:10] Aman: But like, I think that, like, like when I, like, I saw her standing there, I fucking flop in my book. So sorry.
[26:17] Allyson: Um, but like, yeah, what other ones? Like, get that. I don't mind "Hide Your Love Away."
[26:22] Aman: Is that the Beatles one?
[26:23] Allyson: That's, yeah.
[26:24] Aman: The bumper cars?
[26:25] Allyson: No, that's "Drive My Car," famously, and the bumper cars.
[26:29] Aman: But, Kitty and Artie.
[26:31] Allyson: Okay, but there's two of them.
[26:34] Aman: Um, on a scale of "Yesterday" to "I Saw Her Standing There," I definitely wouldn't place it down next to "I Saw Her Standing There," but it's, like, middle bottom for me.
[26:48] Allyson: I know that you're not alone, Al.
[26:50] Aman: I know that people really do like that.
[26:53] Allyson: You've got to hide your love away.
[26:54] Aman: Yeah. I think some people think it's annoying, but I like it.
[26:58] Allyson: I think it was gone in, it's, it was definitely gone in round one, though. I think "Drive My Car" made it through.
[27:05] Aman: But I prefer "Hide Your Love Away" over "Drive My Car."
[27:10] Allyson: Yeah.
[27:11] Aman: Yeah.
[27:12] Allyson: Yeah. I think it's probably, yeah, that, that is probably better, isn't it?
[27:17] Aman: What do you think about this song, though?
[27:19] Allyson: I was gonna say, I feel like the Gleeks, or at least the Claynors love this song. Like, I feel like the streets be saying that they, I will say, second to "It's Too Late," they're not gonna like it.
[27:32] Aman: No, I, I would probably go as far to say that this is probably my, like, maybe the Gleeks might be surprised to hear this, that a Clayne duet is in my top 50 Glee songs.
[27:43] Allyson: I really, I really, really enjoyed this.
[29:55] Aman: I understand why, I understand why, but I do like that song. She's a problematic fave for me.
[30:04] Allyson: I love that song. I love the performance of that song. I love the blend of those voices.
[30:09] Aman: But I think if it was just a Santolo, I think we would be looking at her right now.
[30:15] Allyson: I think that if Idina was excluded out of that song, then, you know, it would be a different story.
[30:23] Aman: Well, funny enough, the same could be said about There's Worse Things I Could Do.
[30:27] Allyson: Because that's like kind of the same vein, like including, because she's also singing about her student.
[30:33] Aman: But we're talking about two adults.
[30:39] Allyson: One is a crime, yes.
[30:41] Aman: Huck is legally an adult. He's 18.
[30:44] Allyson: Whoa, whoa, whoa.
[30:46] Aman: I'm just saying he is 18.
[30:48] Allyson: She didn't break no laws.
[30:52] Aman: She broke a few other things.
[30:54] Allyson: Okay, but it's still breaking a law. I cannot believe that this is the conversation we're having.
[30:59] Aman: It's still breaking a law if that is your actual student.
[31:02] Allyson: I don't think it breaks policy. I don't think it breaks laws.
[31:06] Aman: No, no, no. I'm talking about, see, now we need to be specific about who we're talking about.
[31:11] Allyson: I'm talking about Idina.
[31:13] Aman: Idina is still breaking a law because even though they keep on hitting us over the head with he's 18, he's 18, he's 18.
[31:20] Allyson: That's still against the law.
[31:23] Aman: Oh, I didn't know if it was against the law or if it was just against school policy.
[31:29] Allyson: Wait, is it – do we need to have a new law in order?
[31:34] Aman: I mean, was she wrong? 100%.
[31:38] Allyson: I don't want anybody to think that I'm saying, like, you know.
[31:41] Aman: But like, you know, if they're going to smack her with some disciplinary action, it's to be fired, not to be arrested, is my point.
[31:49] Allyson: Okay, so are you saying that Cassandra July should be fired?
[31:55] Aman: I think she should also be fired.
[31:57] Allyson: For multiple reasons.
[31:58] Aman: Like, college professors should not be sleeping with their students either.
[32:00] Allyson: Okay, yeah. All right. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Sure.
[32:07] Aman: I feel like this is like we've really opened up a new can of worms that I've not seen the Gleeks talk about.
[32:13] Allyson: The comparison between Cassandra July and Shelby.
[32:17] Aman: I mean, Puck versus Brody, those are two different astronomically different worlds, right?
[32:23] Allyson: So, like, one definitely has a higher offense than the other, I think.
[32:27] Aman: But, you know, I digress. I'm sad about constant criticism.
[32:31] Allyson: Right. Bringing it back to –
[32:33] Aman: Bringing it back. Circle back.
[32:36] Allyson: Thank you.
[32:39] Aman: One of the things – yeah, hard left conversation. One of the things that always takes me out about this episode and this performance in particular, that, okay, with what we know about regionals is that it takes place during the winter months.
[32:54] Allyson: And this is the episode that takes place directly after regionals.
[32:58] Aman: And this is no, like, February or March or what we're led to believe when regionals happens.
[33:06] Allyson: And further insult to injury is that the following episode is prom.
[33:12] Aman: That it's like, that's wild to me.
[33:16] Allyson: And then there's, like, probably, what, like, at least eight episodes, I want to say, before they get to graduation.
[33:24] Aman: I don't know about y'all, but I had my prom, like, literally, like, one week.
[33:30] Allyson: Did they get the graduation in season five?
[33:32] Aman: Yeah, the graduation in the 100th episode. Spectacular.
[33:36] Allyson: Because then Brittany gets her honorary graduation as well in that episode.
[33:41] Aman: Oh my God, I forgot about that.
[33:45] Allyson: They squeezed in graduate. Oh my God.
[33:47] Aman: They squeezed in graduate. Thank you. That's a, yeah, it's a fair criticism.
[33:52] Allyson: Yeah, that's crazy.
[33:55] Aman: What was the song that they were singing when they were graduating?
[33:59] Allyson: In season five?
[34:00] Aman: Yeah.
[34:01] Allyson: They don't sing. It just, right. They don't even sing. So what was the point?
[34:09] Aman: I forgot all about that. You saying Brittany getting her diploma, that's what unlocked it for me.
[34:15] Allyson: I want to say I don't, I can't even picture anyone walking across the stage only, like, when Sue is like, and then, surprise, Brittany.
[34:24] Aman: Brittany, yeah. It's so lackluster.
[34:28] Allyson: Okay.
[34:29] Aman: And then Tina, this is wild, Iman. If you don't recall this, this is going to be a fun reveal.
[34:35] Allyson: Tina on stage at graduation turns around and is like, hey guys, I'm going to Brown while she's on stage at graduation.
[34:46] Aman: It's insane.
[34:48] Allyson: I remember that. I do remember that now. I remember that now. I was like, damn, that's code for Ryan Murphy doesn't want me around.
[34:54] Aman: Bye Tina.
[34:56] Allyson: Bye Tina, hope you find your dad.
[34:59] Aman: Hope you have fun off screen.
[35:04] Allyson: Do we have, wow, anything to say else about Got To Get You Into My Life?
[35:12] Aman: Got to get you out of my life. I don't know.
[35:14] Allyson: Oh, that's how we're feeling.
[35:18] Aman: I feel like I enjoyed it. It's one of the, what do they call that? Like the little plaza where they're performing?
[35:24] Allyson: The courtyard. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[35:27] Aman: I feel like that was fun. It was a fun number. I'm trying to compare it to other courtyard numbers.
[35:32] Allyson: Like I liked it better than New York or Empire State of Mind.
[35:39] Aman: Not better than Tina's Madonna song Hung Up.
[35:47] Allyson: Not better than It's Not Unusual with Just Blaine.
[35:53] Aman: Same outfits, same fonts of outfits, though.
[35:56] Allyson: Definitely same fonts of outfits.
[35:58] Aman: Oh, wait, that's wild. For three premieres in a row, Blaine sings on that damn courtyard.
[36:04] Allyson: That he does It's Not Unusual, It's Time, and then Got To Get You Into My Life.
[36:11] Aman: We got the mileage out of that. We never saw that courtyard in season one, did we? It made its appearance in season two.
[36:16] Allyson: Yeah, with Empire State of Mind.
[36:20] Aman: Yeah, they're like courtyard reveal. I remember the actual students that went to that school.
[36:27] Allyson: They were supplying so many good spoilers at the time.
[36:31] Aman: They were?
[36:32] Allyson: Because they were like, I remember specifically that there was a video.
[36:37] Aman: Ooh, I might need to track this down for the carousel.
[36:40] Allyson: But there was a student at that school that filmed Tina doing Hung Up.
[36:48] Aman: And I was like, ooh, I cannot wait.
[36:51] Allyson: She is cutting up.
[36:53] Aman: It's oh my god.
[36:55] Allyson: Yeah. Just imagine like you're going in between classes and you're just that. There's the damn glee cast again.
[37:01] Aman: That's such a distraction.
[37:02] Allyson: Like, I don't like.
[37:03] Aman: Yeah.
[37:04] Allyson: If I were a parent that had a child that went to that school, I'd be like, uh-uh, absolutely not. Get these gleeks up out of here.
[37:09] Aman: During the summer.
[37:10] Allyson: Why are we like?
[37:12] Aman: It's wild. When Allison and I were in L.A., I think now I guess like two years ago, we were just driving down the highway.
[37:21] Allyson: And she was like, oh, look over there. There's that high school.
[37:25] Aman: And I was like, oh, that's the Holy Land. I need to.
[37:29] Allyson: I'm like, I wish I could just show up. But of course, it's a high school.
[37:37] Aman: Okay.
[37:38] Allyson: Next song.
[37:40] Aman: We're not feeling that great.
[37:44] Allyson: I could vote for it depending on what it's up against.
[37:47] Aman: It's from another premiere.
[37:49] Allyson: The season three premiere even.
[37:51] Aman: Season three.
[37:52] Allyson: Don't let it be.
[37:53] Aman: It's not unusual.
[37:55] Allyson: She's safe with the other survivors.
[37:59] Aman: Okay. Let's.
[38:01] Allyson: You're going to know what this is.
[38:04] Aman: Oh, yeah.
[38:05] Allyson: You can't stop the.
[38:07] Aman: You can't stop the beat.
[38:09] Allyson: You can't stop.
[38:11] Aman: And as it races down the hill.
[38:18] Allyson: You can try to stop the seasons, but you know, you never will.
[38:28] Aman: And you can try to stop my dancing feet.
[38:33] Allyson: But I just cannot stand still.
[38:37] Aman: Cause the world keeps spinning round and round.
[38:42] Allyson: And my heart's keeping time to the speed of sound.
[38:47] Aman: I was lost till I heard the drums.
[38:50] Allyson: And I found my way.
[38:54] Aman: Cause you can stop the beat.
[38:59] Allyson: Five, six, seven, eight.
[39:01] Aman: Ever since the solar world began.
[39:03] Allyson: A woman found out if she shook it, she could shake up a man.
[39:06] Aman: And so I'm gonna shake and shimmy at the best that I can today.
[39:10] Allyson: Cause you can't stop the motion of the ocean or the sun in the sky.
[39:14] Aman: You can wander if you wanna, but I'll never ask why.
[39:17] Allyson: If you try to hold me down, I'm gonna spit in your eye and say.
[39:21] Aman: That you can't stop the beat.
[39:31] Allyson: You can't stop today.
[39:33] Aman: As it comes speeding down the track.
[39:36] Allyson: Sound yesterday is history.
[39:39] Aman: And it's never coming back.
[39:42] Allyson: Cause tomorrow is a brand new day.
[39:45] Aman: And I don't know why I'm so glad.
[39:48] Allyson: Cause the world keeps spinning round and round.
[39:51] Aman: And my heart's keeping time to the speed of sound.
[39:54] Allyson: I was lost till I heard the drums.
[39:56] Aman: And I found my way.
[39:58] Allyson: Cause you can stop the beat.
[40:06] Aman: Ever since we first saw the sun.
[40:08] Allyson: A man and woman like to shake it when the day is done.
[40:11] Aman: So I'm gonna shake and shimmy and then have some fun today.
[40:15] Allyson: Cause you can't stop the motion of the ocean.
[40:18] Aman: All the way from above.
[40:19] Allyson: You can try to stop the power.
[40:21] Aman: That's what I'm dreaming of.
[40:22] Allyson: But you can't if not the rhythm of your heart saying.
[40:24] Aman: Don't you stay.
[40:27] Allyson: You can't stop the beat.
[40:29] Aman: You can't stop the beat.
[40:32] Allyson: You can't stop the beat.
[40:40] Aman: Oh my gosh.
[40:42] Allyson: Okay, yeah.
[40:43] Aman: Okay, yeah.
[40:44] Allyson: I'm gonna start us off in the discourse.
[40:46] Aman: I'll go.
[40:48] Allyson: I distinctly remember watching this premiere on Tumblr and making gifs of Puck and Britney's faces at the end.
[40:56] Aman: Like when they're making these weird faces.
[40:58] Allyson: And that's what this number reminds me of so specifically. I remember when I heard you can't stop the beat. I'm like oh my god they're weird faces.
[41:01] Allyson: No.
[41:02] Aman: But it's a good look.
[41:03] Allyson: It's a good look.
[41:04] Aman: And I'm glad that she was an outfit repeater in that regard.
[41:05] Aman: And then Mike throwing something into Britney's ass.
[41:08] Allyson: Oh yeah.
[41:08] Allyson: Iman what are you thinking about this song?
[41:10] Aman: Those are the parts I remember.
[41:10] Aman: I love this song. I was getting goosebumps just listening to it. I haven't heard it in a while and it just made me so happy.
[41:14] Allyson: Okay, audio medium. Just wait. There is the dance move. In case you missed it. Where he like throws something invisible.
[41:17] Allyson: I love the performance of it. I love everyone's voices on it.
[41:19] Aman: Mike at Britney's butt.
[41:20] Aman: I love the parallels that we get to the season one premiere where you're you know you have like Puck or you have the cheerleaders.
[41:25] Allyson: Right?
[41:26] Aman: Yes.
[41:27] Allyson: And she's like jiggling.
[41:27] Allyson: Yeah.
[41:28] Aman: Right.
[41:28] Aman: Getting like soon the cheerleaders being replaced just by you know Emo Quinn.
[41:29] Allyson: Yeah.
[41:30] Aman: But I also love that their outfits are kind of just their own person. Like outfits they would wear. But just all in purple. Like Blaine is wearing his like very Blaine outfit Tina in her little go-go 60s.
[41:32] Allyson: Yeah.
[41:33] Aman: Just looking on longingly at the group that she lost. But then you also have the injection of Blaine into the group and seeing him sort of like just seamlessly work his way into the new directions as well.
[41:43] Allyson: And it was just there's always something a little bit endearing about the performances too where Rachel opened up the song.
[41:45] Allyson: It's true to form.
[41:46] Aman: Yeah.
[41:47] Allyson: For sure.
[41:48] Aman: And Tina gets a lot of mileage out of that dress too. I think this is the same dress that she wears in like three I want to say.
[41:51] Aman: But everyone's like all right Rachel this is a feel good song. We'll let you have this little slow down from the beginning.
[41:55] Allyson: I was like they made you the costume designer? Girl you only got one damn outfit.
[41:55] Allyson: She did the same damn thing for Mamma Mia.
[41:58] Aman: No.
[43:02] Aman: It was so funny. I was like oh my god here we go.
[43:04] Allyson: Yes. I have been oddly thinking about this song recently. I really did like it for a very long time.
[43:10] Aman: I don't know. This might ruffle some feathers.
[43:16] Allyson: I feel like I've like this is going to sound so harsh. I've outgrown this song.
[43:21] Aman: I think I'm done.
[43:24] Allyson: I think I'm ready to put it away.
[43:27] Aman: I think it like almost feels like a little bit like too like I want to say like Disney Channel.
[43:33] Allyson: Disney Channel-y.
[43:34] Aman: Right.
[43:35] Allyson: It's like.
[43:36] Aman: Wait that's so funny that you say that because when Rachel goes five six seven eight I wanted to go na na na na.
[43:41] Allyson: It was the same exact.
[43:44] Aman: So that's funny that you say that.
[43:46] Allyson: Carousel edition.
[43:47] Aman: Thank you.
[43:48] Allyson: Yeah. I don't know. I just this this song in particular I don't know what it is about this one but like not others that are like have the same kind of like genetic makeup.
[44:01] Aman: You know this one just feels like a little bit like too like childish derogatory.
[44:08] Allyson: I think that's fair. I think one thing is I don't necessarily listen. I don't stream this song. I only ever listen to it when I'm like watching the episode.
[44:18] Aman: I think that that has helped maintain a lot of the nostalgia and the magic for me in it because I haven't I haven't abused it.
[44:25] Allyson: So it's like a special treat when I see it.
[44:28] Aman: Yeah.
[44:29] Allyson: But I can definitely understand it being a little too saccharine because there are moments where I'm like this feels like the end of a Disney Channel movie right now.
[44:39] Aman: Right.
[44:40] Allyson: Right. But I you know I still love it.
[44:44] Aman: I am forever grateful that they cut out the the curtain arty verse when they do.
[44:52] Aman: Yes. Seaweed and Penny. It shouldn't have even been, you know, in the full track to begin with.
[45:00] Allyson: And if they try to stop us already. Yeah. Who are they gonna call? Who are Kurt and Artie gonna call?
[45:08] Aman: Yeah. Yeah. Wild. Um, so that, uh, my god, Ryan Murphy will never know peace. I don't know. I, this is a harder competition for me. I'll know about y'all. Do you guys know? I'm, I'm, I'm not fully decided yet. Now that I'm really marinating, because I do really enjoy that song, You Can't Stop the Beat. But I understand the weight that Got to Get You Into My Life holds in terms of like, the Gleeks, the Cleaners and whatnot. So I'm, I'm not decided.
[45:51] Andrew: Yeah. Aman, what are you thinking?
[45:54] Aman: That You Can't Stop the Beat.
[45:56] Andrew: Oh, you're ready to cast the vote.
[45:58] Aman: Yeah, I am. Yeah, it just gets me going. It gets my Glee, my Glee sensibility is going, what can I say? And you know, look, I can appreciate what Got to Get You Into My Life is. And, but I think in terms of like, the opener, like a for a premiere episode, I just think that You Can't Stop the Beat is a bit more zesty and iconic than Got to Get You Into My Life.
[46:28] Andrew: Okay. And with that being said, I'm gonna vote for Got to Get You Into My Life, which means a thousand, but you need to make a decision.
[46:36] Aman: Oh, dear.
[46:37] Allyson: Got to Get You Into My Life, I stand by. It's definitely a top stream for me. I just think it's cute. And this isn't just like trying to get the Cleaners on my side, because I know that y'all don't really like me that much. This isn't that and I want you to know that I do firmly enjoy this song and I think that they sound very, very good, even though that the overall engagement plot I have some qualms with. You know, I, I like this. That being said, Allison, where are you at right now?
[47:12] Aman: So while I do agree that I did say that this is probably one of the best they've ever sounded for Got to Get You Into My Life, I agree with Iman when he's like, the premiere has to like, land and get people watching for because like, it's really hard to follow up season two. That was, you know, most people think that season two is the best season. So I feel like this was a really good ending number.
[47:40] Allyson: I feel like this is when they start to kind of just, the road to the end of season two is they start to kind of just throw closing numbers that have nothing to do with the plot.
[47:51] Aman: Yes, exactly. Right? Where I'm like this, I was thinking that too, while watching You Can't Stop the Beat, that wouldn't have happened in season two.
[47:59] Allyson: Right. So like, even like in the pilot, when it ends with Don't Stop Believing, we already know they're trying to get it together. They're trying to be a group. So we know they're going to perform a song. But this one, it just kind of comes out of this is like the beginning of when they're just like, yep, just do this song. Like, I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm not saying—
[48:16] Aman: No, I think that you guys are forgetting that there is a through line in this episode.
[48:22] Allyson: Because they sing at the beginning of the episode, they sing—
[48:27] Aman: We Got the Beat.
[48:28] Allyson: We Got the Beat.
[48:28] Aman: Okay, so there's a beat through line.
[48:30] Allyson: Yes, there's a beat through line. And they're talking about like how even though the pianos got burned to death, gutted out and all sorts of stuff, you cannot stop the beat. We still have the beat. That's what it is.
[48:43] Aman: You know what, Amon? That just made my decision. Like, I vote for You Can't Stop the Beat.
[48:47] Allyson: Wow.
[48:49] Aman: That I love. That just gagged me a little bit. He was like, no, no.
[48:53] Allyson: That was really beautiful, Amon.
[48:54] Aman: They close with the beat.
[48:58] Allyson: And that is a beauty and the beat. Exactly. Yeah.
[49:04] Andrew: Wow. That's—
[49:07] Aman: I'm sorry, Andrew. I mean, it's a beautiful song.
[49:09] Andrew: No, but this is— I love when this happens.
[49:12] Aman: Points were made.
[49:13] Andrew: On the Glackett that you thoroughly convinced another voter to vote in your favor. That's exact— I was not as convinced.
[49:22] Aman: I was already leaning toward You Can't Stop the Beat. But that point, I'm standing.
[49:29] Allyson: Made me fiddle in, yeah.
[49:30] Aman: No, but I think that you, again, just to knock it down a bit. I know that it's going through now. But I remember going to bed after the season three premiere and I was like, I liked that, but something felt a little different. The episode just generally, right? It was still like good, but it wasn't season two, right?
[49:48] Allyson: No, I agree. I do think that there— in terms of premiere episodes, that's an interesting thought. I'm surprised that me and Matt never decided to do an episode on just all premiere episodes. But yeah, season two is definitely a stronger premiere all around. It'd be just story-wise, song choice-wise, for sure. So I take your point there, for sure.
[50:08] Aman: Thank you. Thank you. Even though Got to Get You Into My Life has got to get out of all of our lives, apparently.
[50:14] Allyson: Got to get you out of my life. I'm so sorry.
[50:18] Andrew: Okay. Well, Cleaners, you cannot say that I didn't try, all right? I didn't. I rose to the occasion.
[50:25] Aman: It was beat out. What can you say?
[50:29] Allyson: Um, exactly. Um, okay. We're going to season five. This is one of my faves.
[50:40] Aman: New York era season five?
[50:41] Allyson: One of your faves.
[50:42] Aman: Yeah, New York era.

[53:14] Aman: They sound so good.
[53:15] Allyson: It's like wild to me that it's like we got, we were like really blessed so many times over with Naya and Leah duets. This being obviously one of them that I'm like they are just like incredible.
[53:30] Aman: It's just like, it's like wild to me that those two voices. Honest, I just, I don't even have the words. Stunning, perfect. Who has thoughts?
[53:41] Allyson: I got like a little like a touch emotional just like thinking about Naya. I just, uh, damn like I have not listened to Glee in a bit. Like I'm like really like it's making me want to do a whole binge again. Like I absolutely adore this cover. I love the performance from both of them in it. Both like vocally and just on the screen. I just love how in her element Rachel is in this scene. Like she's blowing. She's, this is her moment. This is her zenith. And I love that Santana is there in this like supportive role. And I like sort of like the subdued approach that Naya sort of injected into the performance. Because it wasn't like your regular regular run-of-the-mill, super confident Santana in this performance.
She sounds amazing as she always does. But I think it's like I like the choices that Naya made in that. Like I'm going to like kick ass on this song. But I'm also a little insecure as this really isn't my moment. It's Rachel's moment. And I'm in the shadow for it. And which is one of the things that burgeons underneath and causes this big rift between them in the entire season. So I just like that this beautiful cover. This fun, light, beautiful cover was sort of like the beginning of that friction.
[55:04] Aman: Yeah.
[55:05] Allyson: You wouldn't tell it vocally. But like visually you see it all. And just I just loved everything about it. The rasp in Leah's voice on that. Let your words be anything but empty. And then when Leah goes into this sort of like half belt on the last brave. And then Naya comes in and just smashes out of the park with that belt. It is so crystal clear. I miss Naya Rivera so much.

[56:58] Aman: Okay and it's just so funny because this is supposed to be like a funny girl shoot. And I'm like nothing about this photo shoot is giving funnier other than maybe her like even the sequined outfit is just like. And then Naya is supposed to be like a background model. But she's in a very gown that doesn't match any of the background models.
[57:15] Allyson: Yeah that it does take me out.
[57:18] Aman: So I'm like oh so once you start to break it down it just makes me laugh. It doesn't take away from the number for me. Like it's not as distracting because their vocals are so good.
[57:27] Allyson: Yeah.
[57:28] Aman: But when you start to like look at they're like wait I thought you were just supposed to be like an ensemble. But then it's like what does this photo shoot have to do with funny girl? She has like a statement dress on. It's like she's going to pull focus.
[57:41] Allyson: Exactly.
[57:43] Aman: And also just like their voices aside. The fact that you know like Lea Michele and Naya Rivera are on the track it's going to sound great. But the arrangement I feel is like so inspired. And so like it this episode comes like at a point in the series where the the pop songs that they were doing were I feel for the most part were very truthful to the original. That it's like Wrecking Ball obviously comes to mind. That it's like okay if I wanted to like listen to Wrecking Ball. We talked about it last time you were on Allison.
[58:17] Allyson: Yes.
[58:18] Aman: Like we have Wrecking Ball at home you know. And so like Brave to me was like that was playing everywhere. And so I thought it was like such a specific choice to have like this kind of like kind of like more grounded arrangement. It wasn't as like heavy with the beat you know as the original is. I feel like there's some Glee songs that I'm like oh my gosh like it makes me it makes it hard to choose between listening to the original and listening to the Glee version. Because it's just the Glee version is just that good. And I feel like this is one of them. The harmonies are going to get me every time.
[58:53] Allyson: Yeah.
[58:54] Aman: But I do still love Sara Bareilles' version. But it's just the certain Glee songs that are like comparable to the original is that's how you know it's like a good Glee song.

[59:37] Allyson: I will say a peplum top hates to see Santana Lopez coming. She is the queen of the peplum top.
[59:43] Aman: Very of the times.
[59:49] Aman: I, uh, do we want to even open up the can of worms of this entire feud? Of, like, uh, not, not Leah Naya. We're talking...
[59:58] Allyson: My face was like...
[1:00:01] Aman: What a fun topic. Let's talk about, uh, the real life drama between two actresses.
[1:00:08] Allyson: No, because for me, this is me opening up the discussion, actually. Um, for me, the Pesbury feud, I feel like people are so on either side with it. I have a, I have a nuanced take. I am, I'm, I feel like when I watched initially, when I was a senior in high school, this episode, I was like, so Team Santana. I was like, Rachel, you are, like, out of line. Like, Santana can do whatever she wants. As I grow up, I'm like, I would be kind of, like, frustrated, personally, if one of my best friends showed up and, like, kind of was, like, showing up. It's like, this is a huge moment for me. And so, like, I can hear, I can hear both sides, which I think why it makes a really interesting plot here. I feel like they kind of addressed it, like, uh, in the show when they're like, oh, what, you wanted to be a Broadway star yesterday?
Like, this is just a new dream because Rachel's becoming successful. But it does, like I said, like, we're working in theater. It's just so funny because it kind of starts with, like, her quote unquote auditioning to be an understudy, which is, like, not a thing. Especially, like, an open audition to be an understudy. So it's funny that I'm trying to, like, well, that's not real. But for her to, like, yeah, just step in and be like, oh, well, now I'm going to do it and do it better. So I see both sides. But I see Santana being like, well, if I can be good at something, I could at least try. It sucks that it's at this, you know, at your expense. But, yeah, I don't know. Both people take it too far on both ends.
But also, it's good drama. Like, where it comes at a time, I've said it so many times before, it comes at a time in the season, specifically season five, that it's like, oh, we needed a good piece of drama, something to chew on a little bit. So Amon, what do you think?
[1:02:13] Amon: Yeah, I mean, I agree with you. I think it is fantastic writing because, yeah, you can see it from both sides. I mean, for Santana, like, like, sure, like, she never really had any clear cut aspirations of becoming a Broadway star. But one thing in season three that she did say was that no matter what it took, she was going to be famous. So I think that she always knew that she wanted to perform. She just didn't know what avenue she wanted to take. Did you want to do the Mercedes thing and do it be, you know, be on the radio? Did you want to be with Rachel and go on Broadway? I don't think that she really, really knew. And I think that her sort of just going to New York to figure it out is perfectly acceptable.
And I don't necessarily think that it comes at the expense of your friendship with Rachel. At least it doesn't have to. I think where Santana goes wrong is that she doesn't say anything. Now, the logic behind saying, well, I didn't want to give Rachel a chance to torpedo me beforehand because Rachel definitely would have reverted to her old ways and tried to do it. She would have sent her to a crack house in New York City. And I have the groundwork. Yeah.
[1:03:15] Allyson: A crack house in NYC, a none to be trifled with over an inactive crack house in Ohio. OK, Rachel or Santana would not have returned. She would have been gone, although Santana also has Street Smart, so she probably would have made it out alive.
[1:03:27] Amon: She's from Lima Heights.
[1:03:28] Allyson: Yeah. So I I think that she could have at least had the conversation with Rachel because being an understudy is still like, like you're still you're still going to be fanny, Rachel. You're still going to be fanny. Like and just because Santana doesn't ever get a chance to perform, maybe you never get sick. But her being an understudy is still a good thing for her resume. So why don't you both just eat? Eat the thing. Like and it's so funny. But just the way that girls like the way that they even depict it or to depict anything like I feel like the people that were kids like watching the show have such a like warped sense of how Broadway actually works solely because of Ryan Murphy.
[1:04:08] Aman: You're talking directly to me when you're saying that, like, oh, this isn't how understudy auditions work. I'm like, what do you mean? This is how it works. This is what I was told. And it's just so funny because what does she tell the producer? Like, I will never get sick. We don't even have to hire an understudy. And I'm like, somebody get actors equity on the phone because you are legally required to have like understudy swing standby.
[1:04:41] Allyson: You're talking to me too, Amon, because like, while I did grow up in a lot of theater, I didn't really know how everything worked on a professional level. So I'm sure I'm still walking around with a lot of misconceptions about how like, well, even one of the shows I just finished working is Wicked. And I just kept playing over and over in my head the scene with Cassandra July with one of her students. And he was like, asking her like, Oh, can I get out of something or your letter of recommendation helped me land the role? And he goes, it's only a flying monkey. And I'm like, first of all, the flying monkeys are putting in work. And that's not...
[1:05:16] Amon: They're crazy. They're so much fun.
[1:05:19] Allyson: Yeah. So it's like I said, the people that are not familiar with the way theater works, they make Glee make it sound like understudies are like, beneath or like a lower level. Like, it doesn't make you any less of a performer, whether you're someone's understudy or standby, because if we're bringing it into real life, Leah's understudy standby alternate Fanny has become famed, Julie Benko, thank you, yeah, became viral or whatever for being that understudy. So you know, it's just interesting how art imitates life.
[1:05:52] Amon: Can I, um, can I admit something that I've never admitted before to anybody?
[1:05:57] Allyson: In a recorded fashion? You want to be doing this?
[1:06:00] Amon: It's not so super crazy, but it's a touch crazy. I have never seen Wicked. I have, I know the songs like the back of my hand. I've listened to the album 10,000 times. I've read the script many times. And I've also read bits and pieces of the book. I have yet to ever see a production of Wicked ever in my life.
[1:06:19] Allyson: Where do you where are you from again?
[1:06:23] Amon: I'm from Pittsburgh, but I've been living in Philly for the past 12 years. So New York is a train ride. I am an hour away. And I've never seen Wicked in Philly, Amon.
[1:06:33] Allyson: It's been here at least three times since I have lived probably more times that since I've been here for the past over a decade, and I have yet to see...
[1:06:42] Amon: Think you'll be able to watch it before in the next month?
[1:06:46] Allyson: I have been going back and forth about what I want to do. Do I want to see a production of Wicked? Or do I want to watch the movie first? And I'm so afraid because I don't want to be one of those people that watches the movie first. And it's like, this is the best thing ever. And then all of the Broadway pose are like, excuse me.
[1:07:00] Amon: No, no, no, no, no, no.
[1:07:02] Allyson: I think it's a point of view. I think if you can, I would like savor that point of view, because not a lot of people can say that they will a lot of people can say they haven't seen Wicked. But like, yeah, being a fan and like people that are like in the right, right. So I don't know. I don't know.

[1:17:36] Andrew: Okay, we don't need a vote yet. We want thoughts first.
[1:17:48] Aman: I like this song. I like this song. I think something that always makes me chuckle is that I feel like at this point in time, almost everybody and their mother is singing this song better than Alicia Keys.
[1:18:08] Allyson: Ooh, who said that?
[1:18:12] Aman: I love Alicia Keys. I love Alicia. I grew up listening to songs in A minor and everything else, okay? But when I tell you that Sistah Girls' vocal chords were screaming for help during the heyday of this song, they were screaming for help. And so it was just very refreshing. This was the song that did it. This was the song that she never came back from.
[1:18:36] Allyson: Wait, that's true. Has she had a hit since Girl on Fire? That's so mean to say.
[1:18:44] Aman: She's had a couple things after Girl on Fire.
[1:18:48] Allyson: She famously has a currently running Broadway show.
[1:18:52] Aman: Yes, which is very, very good. I really did like Hell's Kitchen. I'm going to see it next week as well. I'm just saying that it was nice to be able to hear this song from someone who was vocally able to handle it at the time.
[1:19:06] Aman: I am going to backpedal on that thought because for me, this is maybe going to get me in trouble. I really do prefer the original to the Santolo. To bring up a previous point, they didn't do anything special with this one. I feel crazy even saying that because I know that people are going to come after me. But this is a Santolo that I'm like, you already had the pinnacle Santolo earlier in the episode. And you thought that you were going to build to Girl on Fire and that was going to be the girl. But you already accomplished so much with Nutbush City Limits that it's like Girl on Fire, going with the fire analogy, doesn't hold a candle to Nutbush City Limits.
[1:20:02] Allyson: I feel like that phenomenon happens a lot on Glee where a character has a song that is exponentially stronger in the beginning or middle part of the episode. And then the closer sort of like a letdown. And I don't think that the song is a letdown. But I echo that in that this was, you know, the 10 o'clock number is supposed to wake you back up. And this was not that for me. I think that she looks beautiful because it's Naya Rivera and we all love her. We all love Santana. But in terms of all the Santolos, I don't know. I think that this is definitely not a weak performance. It's impossible for her to have a weak performance. But it doesn't, like you said, it doesn't pack the same punch that I feel like the episode wants it to. And there might have been other songs out there that they could have chosen. I don't know if Girl on Fire is that song for this moment.
[1:20:52] Aman: Well, because like now I'm trying to think of like what other Alicia Keys songs did they do on the show? Like only like Empire State of Mind, which was a feature. They didn't even do like, they did none of like...
[1:21:04] Allyson: What other Alicia Keys do they do on this damn show? Have they done anything else?
[1:21:07] Aman: No, it was just those two. They didn't do like No One or My Boo or If I Ain't Got You or anything. Or Fallen. So yeah, just those two. You Don't Know My Name, which would have been a fun New York number.
[1:21:23] Allyson: So good.
[1:21:24] Aman: Oh, can you imagine Naya Rivera and Demi Lovato covering that song?
[1:21:29] Allyson: Oh my God.
[1:21:30] Aman: Oh my God.
[1:21:33] Allyson: Doing like the entire like phone call too.
[1:21:35] Aman: I need it.
[1:21:37] Allyson: With the braids?
[1:21:38] Aman: They drop the ball on... Yeah, with the braids. I think it's kind of sweet. My manager be tripping saying I'm supposed to use water.
[1:21:50] Allyson: It does pick me up. Like she's like he is like canonically eating catfish and also getting hot chocolate with the catfish too. I know his stomach is doing backflips. It's great.
[1:22:01] Aman: Yeah, we needed more Alicia Keys in the hit Fox Show Glee. Needed it bad. I did pull up her discography and no shade. There has not been a hit since Girl on Fire.
[1:22:17] Allyson: Okay, legal note, got it.
[1:22:18] Aman: Yeah, but I'm like, I'm voting for Girl on Fire. There, I said it.
[1:22:24] Allyson: Oh, okay. Y'all work it out on the remix.
[1:22:28] Aman: I'm voting for Girl on Fire.
[1:22:31] Allyson: I just want to have a quick thing to say just for the sake of carousel edition before we get into voting proper. When she's walking down the hallway and her ponytail is going crazy.
[1:22:45] Aman: The ponytailography, honey. I'm going to do something special with that. I'm going to just overlay, whip my hair back and forth over that video. Just be look out for that.
[1:22:55] Allyson: I still don't understand how Glee does that thing where they're in slow motion, but their mouth is still in sync with the track.
[1:23:05] Aman: It's filmed sped up.
[1:23:07] Allyson: Yeah.
[1:23:08] Aman: And so it's filmed sped up. And so then when they slow it down, everyone else, like when they're lip syncing, they're lip syncing to it at a faster rate. So then they can slow it down and everything will look different.
[1:23:18] Allyson: And I feel like Kevin.
[1:23:20] Aman: Aman is really processing this audio medium. Kevin had got into it on his podcast because the reason I even started watching Glee is because I was a big fan of Kevin's boy band. And in the music videos, they also use that trick. So I feel like he was talking about the way they used to do that.
[1:23:35] Allyson: I didn't think about that. That's so smart.
[1:23:39] Aman: It is crazy.
[1:23:40] Allyson: Wait, really quick, Alison. You must have revealed that that was like your gateway drug into Glee, that Kevin's band.
[1:23:49] Aman: How many Gleeks can say that?
[1:23:53] Allyson: That's really wild.
[1:23:55] Aman: Because I'm old. But like, yeah, I was following his boy band in what, 2007? And then so when I found out that like, oh, Kevin from NLT is in this new TV show and he's singing, I was like, oh, I'm obviously going to start watching it.
[1:24:11] Allyson: Yeah.
[1:24:12] Aman: Wow.
[1:24:13] Allyson: Wow.
[1:24:14] Aman: That's so...
[1:24:15] Allyson: And here you are today.
[1:24:16] Aman: Oh, wait, no, I did know that because I remember we were talking, I was talking about with Matt back when we were covering season four, actually, ironically enough. And I had found, I don't know if you guys might have stumbled upon them over the years, but there's like a bunch of like behind the scenes content for season four on YouTube. And I remember watching some behind the scenes content of Sam and Brittany singing Make Me Over.
[1:24:42] Allyson: Oh, yeah.
[1:24:43] Aman: And they were doing the hallway scene.
[1:24:45] Allyson: Celebrity skin.
[1:24:49] Aman: It's the same slow motion thing. And when they're actually filming it, they're like walking real fast down the hallway. And I'm like, oh, they slowed it down. I remember that now.
[1:25:00] Allyson: Oh, wow. There's also like a fun behind the scenes video of that Harry Shum took for I Lived of like everybody there and they're going like crazy. Like the entire cast obviously was there and they're going crazy speed. It's very fun if you haven't seen it.
[1:25:16] Aman: Wow. I love this fucking show.
[1:25:19] Allyson: It's a fun show to talk about.
[1:25:23] Aman: Amon, do you?
[1:25:24] Allyson: Oh, I could do the fun thing where I vote for Brave, which makes now Amon the tiebreaker.
[1:25:31] Aman: I mean, this is a wonderful problem to have. Santana versus Santana. There was someone else on the first song.
[1:25:46] Allyson: Yeah, I think I'm going to have to give it to Brave here. I think I got to give it to Brave. I needed this win. Thank you.
[1:25:57] Aman: Yeah, I just I think that Girl on Fire, while it is a great performance, I don't think about it in the great pantheon of Santana performances. And Brave is just something that I always just get so jazzed about. And like that, the way that Naya lands that note, man, it just sends chills down my spine. I mean, Pillsbury duets are just mmm. They're so good.
[1:26:21] Allyson: They're so good. Like even like the bad ones, like I kissed a girl. Fine, I'll take it.
[1:26:28] Aman: Do you want to say any final words for Girl on Fire?
[1:26:35] Allyson: Girl on Fire.
[1:26:36] Aman: I will say the continuity of it all, where they start in November and then ends up in New York. They changed her outfit. Well, obviously she's coming off the train in Roots before Branches. She's still in the same act, like they're singing and then they come up in New York. But like, at least they give the illusion that it's not in the same day.
[1:26:55] Allyson: Yeah, no doubt. She just endlessly sang the Girl on Fire on a loop the entire way to New York on the train. And everyone's looking at her like, uh.
[1:27:12] Aman: Yeah, they hate to see her coming on the train.
[1:27:18] Allyson: OK, Girl on Fire. You were great. Do you want to say any final words?
[1:27:23] Aman: It feels bad, but.
[1:27:25] Allyson: I know. I'll listen to it as I'm coming up the subway next Monday.
[1:27:30] Aman: I'll do it too. I'll send it in the group message.
[1:27:34] Andrew: OK, so we're at final competition. I feel like we've had two good competitions. Like we argued. I was happy about that. Let's see.
[1:27:45] Aman: Oh, another season four.
[1:27:47] Allyson: OK.
[1:27:49] Andrew: I don't see people talking about this one. I always get such butterflies when you do this.
[1:27:53] Aman: I know, I'm like, what's it going to be? What's it going to be? I've never been on the other end, so I can't even imagine what it's like.
[1:27:59] Andrew: OK, audio medium. We're looking at.
[1:28:03] Aman: This looks like a seedy hotel room.
[1:28:05] Andrew: So it is a seedy hotel room.
[1:28:07] Aman: Is it Brody and Rachel?
[1:28:10] Andrew: It is a scene with Brody in it.
[1:28:14] Aman: But Brody and Finn and Fantana.
[1:28:18] Andrew: Yeah. So that's exact scene that you're talking about. So this is just the closing scene. And they go into a number that doesn't have anything to do with Brody and Finn.
[1:28:26] Aman: Yes.
[1:28:27] Andrew: What happens after this?
[1:28:28] Aman: He says, stay away from my future wife.
[1:28:30] Andrew: Stay away from my future wife. I love this scene because it's just Fantana sitting there. And he's like, how did you?
[1:28:34] Aman: The ugliest spit of all time.
[1:28:37] Andrew: Yeah. Like, how did you say, I told you, this is what I do.
[1:28:42] Aman: A stab in the dark. Do we know?
[1:28:44] Andrew: Oh, what comes on after this?
[1:28:46] Aman: Stay away from my future wife. And then the Gleeks are screaming. I can't think of it. I'm going to be so mad. I can't think of it.
[1:28:52] Allyson: It's Tegan and Sarah.
[1:28:54] Aman: Closer.
[1:28:55] Allyson: And that's why I can't think of it.
[1:29:00] Aman: Don't do that. All I want to know is, can you come a little closer?

[1:45:49] Aman: Yes, it's a beautiful song.
[1:45:50] Allyson: I don't know anything about it other than that song.
[1:45:53] Aman: I love that. I've seen this. I've been in this musical once. I've seen it many, many, many times. I love this damn musical. I need to go see this.
[1:46:02] Allyson: Well, go see it at the Kennedy Center in D.C.
[1:46:04] Aman: I need to see it.
[1:46:06] Allyson: This weekend, by the time this episode comes out, it will be done.
[1:46:10] Aman: Damn it. I had no idea this was happening.
[1:46:13] Allyson: I'm so upset now.
[1:46:14] Aman: Yeah, it's like an all-star cast.
[1:46:16] Allyson: I think that Taron Killam and Bonnie Milligan are playing-
[1:46:19] Aman: Bonnie Milligan.
[1:46:20] Allyson: They're playing, like, from what I've seen-
[1:46:23] Aman: They're like teachers?
[1:46:24] Allyson: They're teachers.
[1:46:25] Aman: Oh, they're the people at the desk. Okay, that makes more sense. That makes more sense. Okay.
[1:46:30] Allyson: I was like, nah, I know he ain't playing one of them kids, because that would make no damn sense for him.
[1:46:36] Aman: So yeah, very excited. But by the time that you're hearing this, I have already seen it, and I'm sure that I probably already loved it.
[1:46:43] Allyson: But you should go see- there's a clip they posted of Kevin performing.
[1:46:46] Aman: Oh yeah, you gotta see it.
[1:46:47] Allyson: Wait, so you know nothing about this shit? Like, you don't know anything about the plot or anything?
[1:46:51] Aman: No, when I sing the I Love You song, I don't know who's singing or what they're singing about.
[1:46:56] Allyson: I saw it when I was in fifth grade, but I have close to no memory. I'm sure that I probably saw it with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, though.
[1:47:04] Aman: Yeah, all the way back then. Yeah, that was him, for sure.
[1:47:08] Allyson: Damn, oh my god, I'm so jealous.
[1:47:13] Aman: But I have some legal notes about Honesty, if anybody cares.
[1:47:17] Allyson: Sure.
[1:47:18] Aman: Okay, here we go. Here are my legal notes, everyone. So legal note number one is that Honesty was Cory Monteith's audition song for the hit Fox show Glee.
[1:47:29] Allyson: Wow, I didn't know that.
[1:47:30] Aman: I know, tracks.
[1:47:31] Allyson: Yeah, like a little fun fact, a little legal note that maybe you didn't know.
[1:47:35] Aman: And this song is here because of a competition that happened in round one that, you know, I'm not crazy about either of these songs, but I would have rather seen the other song.
[1:47:49] Allyson: Everybody Talks.
[1:47:51] Aman: Everybody Talks?
[1:47:56] Allyson: Bear with me. It's a Jake and Kitty duet.
[1:47:59] Aman: I like that song.
[1:48:00] Allyson: Wait, Aman, you were at such a pitch, I cannot hear you.
[1:48:04] Aman: I was gonna say, I might agree. I might agree with that, actually.
[1:48:08] Allyson: The Honesty is better?
[1:48:09] Aman: No, that I might have preferred Everybody Talks over Honesty, maybe.
[1:48:14] Allyson: Me too.
[1:48:15] Aman: Me too.
[1:48:15] Andrew: Yeah.
[1:48:18] Aman: It's fun.
[1:48:19] Allyson: It is fun.
[1:48:21] Aman: That was the premiere episode, wasn't it? Or the second episode? No, that was, no, no, don't tell me. It is season four, episode five, The Role You Were Born to Play.
[1:48:32] Allyson: Yes, you are correct. I think that what Allison was asking was who was the guest for that Glocken episode? And that was Taisha Monique Clark, who played Giselle, Vocal Adrenaline, season one. She was the front woman for-
[1:48:53] Aman: So that makes sense. Because obviously, she is familiar more with Kevin than you.
[1:48:57] Allyson: Yes. Yeah.
[1:48:59] Aman: So that, I understand. I was like, that's so weird. But that makes sense.
[1:49:03] Allyson: Yeah. And I think that Allison Dodge was also like, she was siding with Taisha. And I was the Lone Ranger for Everybody Talks. Nobody was talking except for me.
[1:49:15] Andrew: Do you- are we ready to vote?
[1:49:17] Aman: Yeah.
[1:49:18] Andrew: You guys know. I haven't decided.
[1:49:25] Aman: Well, I am going to vote for- I'm gonna give it to Honesty here.
[1:49:37] Allyson: I knew this was gonna happen. Okay. So it's again, we're doing the same thing. I'm gonna vote for Closer.
[1:49:43] Aman: I was about to say, similarly to Got To Get You In My Life, this is not- I'm not trying to appease the G.I.D.E.R. fans, who I know that we- I'm kidding. The G.I.D.E.R. fans, I don't think that there are any of them.
[1:49:54] Allyson: They left the chat.
[1:49:55] Aman: They left the chat a long time ago. They left the chat in 2012. Allison, talk me through, what are you thinking right now?
[1:50:05] Allyson: I- well, like I said, I am a closeted writer, admirer. I'm not gonna say Stan.
[1:50:18] Aman: You're not in the closet anymore. You're out.
[1:50:22] Allyson: I enjoy his vocals. However, I also enjoy Kevin's vocals. But both of these songs to me, I dislike.
[1:50:30] Aman: Don't give a damn about.
[1:50:32] Allyson: Right. I don't care about so much that I'm like, oh god.
[1:50:37] Aman: Pick your poison.
[1:50:40] Allyson: You can't abstain.
[1:50:41] Aman: It's right. It's literally like, I'm gonna go with Closer.
[1:50:51] Allyson: What made you reach that decision?
[1:50:53] Aman: Um, because it starts with the ending of Finn saying, stay away from my future wife. It goes, I think, just the fact that it's like a writer and Jake duet and then even in the number, Raideek, Raideek siding. They had a little, they did have a little moment.
[1:51:18] Allyson: Raideek. And then so I was like, why did that happen? And I looked up and it was the Feud episode. And then it ends. I think the drama of it all, like the underlying drama.
[1:51:28] Allyson: And we were struggling to find that any drama or any storyline behind Honesty.
[1:51:37] Aman: Right. Thank you for providing context.
[1:51:40] Allyson: Yeah. Closer has plot a little bit, but Honesty is kind of just, you know, those songs that they're just like, here, sing this with no context whatsoever. But we'll force it in there, whatever context, like Honesty, Becky, you need to be honest that you're scared. Like, you could have just told me that. Right.
[1:52:03] Aman: Um, I will say, and I know that I did vote for Closer. Um, I am fearful for, uh, Kevin McHale representation going into round three. I think that we, um, not to make you feel bad, but let all of his songs. Um, because I don't think that Honesty was, was his, uh, calling card. Uh, but I think we still have like, PYT still left around. Isn't she lovely? We have like, a few.
[1:52:31] Allyson: Is Safety Dance still around?
[1:52:34] Aman: She died. I'm so sorry.
[1:52:39] Allyson: Was Safety Dance not his job?
[1:52:42] Aman: Safety Dance, Safety Dance kind of was his job. And I am so, do you want to know who, it's going to make it worse when I tell you who killed her. Do you, are you, are you ready? It was, it was Love You Like a Love Song. And Love You Like a Love Song is already in round three. So she's really doing some damage.
[1:53:09] Allyson: Don't spit on the grave. Why don't you?
[1:53:12] Aman: That's such a good, Matt, that's a good, like, competition. Oh God.
[1:53:17] Allyson: Wait, you know, because people, people have come out, I guess I've kind of like talked down about Love You Like a Love Song and they're like, no, it's really good. Like, and I'm like, it's, I don't, it's like kind of like the most forgettable Santolo for me.
[1:53:32] Aman: I'll stream that over the original a hundred percent.
[1:53:36] Allyson: Oh yeah, me too. Yeah. But like, how often do I want Love You Like a Love Song though? It's in the, it's kind of in the same vein as Girl on Fire for me. It's kind of like, you know, you're not going to skip it when it pops up. And it's definitely a great cover, but I don't rush to it the way that I rushed to some of her other songs.
[1:53:56] Aman: Right. I wasn't saying I rushed to Safety Dance.
[1:53:59] Allyson: I wasn't standing outside Target before they opened.
[1:54:06] Andrew: Okay. So to recap this episode, got to get you out of my life because you're going to hell. And you really can't stop the beat because you're going to round three. Brave is what you're going to have to be when you, when you get to round three. Um, and the Girl on Fire has been burned to death. Extinguished? I don't know.
[1:54:34] Aman: Oh my God. We, all of these are like, kind of like, I'm kind of cooking today. Um, closer, you're getting closer to the end of the glacket and, um, honesty, if you want my honest opinion, you're going to hell because you're not, you're done.
[1:54:53] Andrew: Um, this is such a fun episode and a really good, good time, like a two hour episode. Thank you so much for joining me. Um, Alison, where can all the Gleeks find you and your fantastic creations, which I cannot separate about?
[1:55:07] Allyson: Yeah, I'm on a break from those, but I'm just, I'm just on Twitter and Instagram as Alison Alamo, just, you know, vibing.
[1:55:11] Andrew: But have you paused sales?
[1:55:19] Allyson: I have paused because like, I've been hopping around from show to show.
[1:55:24] Andrew: That makes sense.
[1:55:24] Allyson: So I'm working, working, working with no time to sleep.
[1:55:30] Andrew: Well, you're working girl. I'm really proud of you. Every time I see it's like, because I'm a singer, right? We're working with singers. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:55:38] Aman: The longest time I thought she was saying sinner. I did not know that she was saying singer the whole time. Both make sense in my head.
[1:55:45] Andrew: Um, Aman, where can everybody find you and Diary Room?
[1:55:51] Aman: You can find me everywhere at Aman Adwin, usually over on Twitter, sometimes on Twitch. And you can follow me and Matt's podcast, The Diary Room, where we have been doing a similar bracket style podcast where we put in six Big Brother players and three come out. We are still in round one. So we are just now getting off at the top of our journey still.
[1:56:15] Allyson: Incredible.
[1:56:19] Aman: But you can check us out over there as well.
[1:56:22] Andrew: How long? How long are the episode? How long do you spend talking about?
[1:56:25] Aman: We average around one hour 30. We try to keep it there. Yeah, right, right. Yeah, no, it's, it's, again, it's a good premise. It will keep you like, I don't need, I feel so, like, pleased with this kind of framing device, because you don't really need to do homework. You know, have you found that as well, Aman?
[1:56:44] Aman: Yeah, it's like, I don't like have to think like, Oh, I need to watch an episode of Glee or Big Brother or whatever. To like start this recording. I already know where we're at.
[1:56:52] Andrew: Right, right. I mean, we I mean, it's especially for something that you're just so passionate about. Like we've all seen Glee countless times, a lot of this song is in our DNA at this point. So it's literally second nature to come on here and talk about it.
[1:57:04] Aman: So except for except for moving out, moving out is, is not in my DNA.
[1:57:08] Allyson: I love moving out. I rejected it. I need to give it a chance.
[1:57:13] Andrew: We need to do Hey, Allison, when you're here next week, we're gonna do a little like a watch party moving out like critique glasses on.
