[0:16] Heather Bedor: Happy Chorus Line Monday.
[0:23] Amber Brzezinski: I think we just need to get a count of how many times we say Chorus Line.
[0:28] Heather Bedor: Chorus Line.
[0:30] Amber Brzezinski: Happy Monday.
[0:31] Heather Bedor: Happy Monday.
[0:32] Amber Brzezinski: Oh my God.
[0:33] Heather Bedor: It is, uh, it is a, like, I think the next 10 days of theater or like starting from this past weekend through when I get back.
[0:41] Amber Brzezinski: Okay, so like 14 days, maybe two weeks is gonna be nuts.
[0:47] Heather Bedor: Yeah, I'm really excited and exhausted, but, um, yeah, I drove back. My dad's birthday was yesterday, so happy birthday, Dad.
[0:47] Amber Brzezinski: Happy Dad.
[1:00] Heather Bedor: Happy Dad.
[1:01] Amber Brzezinski: I'm so tired.
[1:02] Heather Bedor: It's great.
[1:02] Amber Brzezinski: Happy Dad.
[1:03] Heather Bedor: Um, but yeah, he was like, "What do you want to do?" Because he lives in Port St. Lucie and there's like nothing in the area.
[1:12] Amber Brzezinski: So, um, we went to a farmer's market for all of like 10 minutes, got like, it was hotter than the surface of the sun, got like a coconut.
[1:21] Heather Bedor: So like, I don't know, I'm sure people have had it before, but it's like pretty popular here. You like cut the top off of a coconut and have some coconut water and then you can eat it out.
[1:30] Amber Brzezinski: That sounds so inappropriate.
[1:36] Heather Bedor: I was listening to Fuller House, which is, uh, or the Full House Howard Tanoritos podcast, um, earlier today, and Jody Sweetin said, "Yeah, the show, if we went to Holland, I would have fingered a dike," and then Andrea Parker was like, "Oh my God." So I'm like, "Yeah, apparently that rubbed off on me the wrong way."
[1:55] Amber Brzezinski: Anyway, so we shared my coconut. And then he goes, "What is it do you want to do?" And I'm like, "Dad, I don't live here, so you've got to tell me what you want to do." And he's like, "I don't know, you want to go to an arcade?" I'm like, "Yes," because growing up that was like our thing.
[2:12] Heather Bedor: And so we went to Dave and Buster's. Shout out to Dave and Buster's Port St. Lucie. Um, and my dad and I spent like, I don't know, an hour playing stuff. We played gigantic Pac-Man, like it's the world's largest Pac-Man, you know, whatever.
[2:27] Amber Brzezinski: But it was fun, and he spanked me like hard. Like he took second out of like the top leaderboard. I took sixth, but he was so proud of it. It was so cute.
[2:38] Heather Bedor: Um, so, uh, we did that. We had a beer, and then we went out for dinner. Um, and then I drove home today because it's about two hours for me, and I got stuck on the turnpike for three hours in traffic because an 18-wheeler was on fire.
[2:58] Amber Brzezinski: So that catches you up, and then I laid down, I watched some Clarissa Explains It All getting ready for my interview with Melissa Joan Hart this upcoming Friday, and here we are.
[3:09] Heather Bedor: So I thought we watched something that was like very interesting about her. I'll have to like go see what it was, and then I'll send you when I find out. And that is an open call to any of our listeners or viewers. If you have any deep cut or just questions you'd like to ask Melissa Joan Hart, uh, the cast of the Miraculous Ladybug and Cat Noir, the kid's show, which is super cute, made in Paris.
[3:34] Amber Brzezinski: Um, Nia Vardalos or Joey Patone, because we're doing, uh, the very first time, My Big Fat Greek Wedding reunion, um, panel, and I am interviewing the, uh, three guys minus, uh, Richie from Happy Days.
[3:50] Heather Bedor: So Henry Winkler, Anson Williams, and Donnie Most, um, will be on Sunday plus lots of trivia. So I will be full of Tampa Bay Comic-Con stuff when I come back, and then I'm home for 24 hours, and then I got a new work.
[4:06] Amber Brzezinski: So, but if you're just tuning in and listening to me ramble, I'm Heather, the lovely lady to my left, your right, one of those things is the wonderful Amber.
[4:16] Heather Bedor: Um, and we are the Broadway Fan Club, and we are if we—what me? I can't do that. I did arm day the other day, and my arms, I feel like gassed on, like they're jacked.
[4:26] Amber Brzezinski: Oh, and then I got a fun glitter tattoo. I don't know if you guys can see this, with our colors on it, because we're working on updating our logo, so in a very cheerful cheerleader mood. It's very weird for me.
[4:39] Heather Bedor: But, um, yeah, lots of changes coming, um, and all for the good.
[4:45] Amber Brzezinski: Yes, tonight, uh, we were supposed to have the one and only Emily Grace Tucker's on the show. Unfortunately, quote, she double booked. We love her though, and she'll actually be back on the show August 11th. So we're excited to do that.
[4:57] Heather Bedor: And she felt so bad that she said, "Do you want to do a giveaway? Can we do a giveaway?" And we have some other exciting stuff coming your way too.
[5:06] Amber Brzezinski: But for anybody that is tuning in right now, um, and joining us through the show. If what about your dad?
[5:14] Heather Bedor: Hi, Dad. I was talking, I was saying it was your birthday, and that you spanked me all over Dave and Buster's, and then it sounded really inappropriate coming out of my mouth.
[5:22] Amber Brzezinski: It's great.
[5:23] Heather Bedor: Uh, you'd be great. But yes, um, so I talked to Emily, and she is offering, um, to make up for her, uh, not being able to be here this evening that one of our commenters from tonight, uh, live on air at the end of our show, we'll do a prize wheel.
[5:43] Amber Brzezinski: Um, we'll get a choice of one of her prints, whether it's from Just in Time, maybe Happy Ending, Death Becomes Her, or my favorite, Heathers.
[5:52] Heather Bedor: So very excited. Um, and then we'll have her on the show August 11th, and we may be doing something really cool with The Outsiders. I'm just honestly waiting for the Broadway show Ambers to come out.
[6:06] Amber Brzezinski: Um, I don't think that's gonna happen. There was a show that had an Amber in it, and it was Hairspray.
[6:12] Heather Bedor: Yeah, but it's not the same.
[6:15] Amber Brzezinski: It's not, but I think in that world, like if you think about it, if you think about Hairspray Amber, um, and a room tussle, um, and the Heathers, I think that in if they were in the same universe, they would be friends or like completely.
[6:32] Heather Bedor: Yeah, yeah, because they're both like, yeah, a little bit cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs and all about like the superiority complex, um, and riding the social high, but like very much get taught lessons.
[6:46] Amber Brzezinski: Well, speaking of Candy Store, I have something to show you.
[6:50] Heather Bedor: Oh, so it was Jimmy's birthday.
[6:53] Amber Brzezinski: Jimmy, my birthday on Friday.
[6:56] Heather Bedor: So I was, um, he turned 40.
[6:58] Amber Brzezinski: Yes.
[6:59] Heather Bedor: We had like a little barbecue on Sunday for his birthday, and he has like a couple of nieces and nephews, so I made my signature cookies.
[7:14] Amber Brzezinski: Like the ones that I should be getting right now, but I don't have them.
[7:18] Heather Bedor: But because they were for little tiny humans, I took my usual scoops and I cut them in half.
[7:25] Amber Brzezinski: When I tell you guys, she makes like plate-worthy cookies.
[7:30] Heather Bedor: So they're mini tiny, but I just, I use and I use mini M&Ms, but I just want you to be assured that they still have the trio of perfect M&Ms.
[7:39] Amber Brzezinski: Okay, so for those that don't know, when Amber bakes cookies, she has this thing and it's like her Amber signature.
[7:46] Heather Bedor: Did you just eat a cookie?
[7:47] Amber Brzezinski: So rude right now.
[7:48] Heather Bedor: I just did a crumb.
[7:49] Amber Brzezinski: So darn rude.
[7:52] Heather Bedor: Um, but she has her signature three triangle, like perfect triangular M&Ms that she does that the first time I was like, "Oh my God, do you realize that you have a perfect triangle?"
[8:03] Amber Brzezinski: Um, and then you guys can't really see, but I have freckles or if you want to call them beauty marks on my arm in the exact same shape, so it's great.
[8:12] Heather Bedor: We are destined to be friends.
[8:14] Amber Brzezinski: But yeah, um, well, that's exciting. Happy birthday to Jimmy, and then my father also said that he wants, um, a show of all Jewels.
[8:25] Heather Bedor: Technically, there was Moving Out, the Billy Joel musical.
[8:29] Amber Brzezinski: No, but that it's gotta be Joel's the first name.
[8:32] Heather Bedor: Okay, all right, all right. Broadway producers, get on it.
[8:35] Amber Brzezinski: We're stretching to get people in musicals here.
[8:38] Heather Bedor: Um, I'll start going through our comments list. I'm so excited to see everybody in our comments list.
[8:43] Amber Brzezinski: But make sure that you even just say hi, hello, participate. Um, we've got a lot to cover of this hour and so much stuff.
[8:50] Heather Bedor: I'm so excited. Um, because you know what it's coming, you know it's coming in three days.
[8:55] Amber Brzezinski: Sorry, and then in five days, and then in a week and a day.
[9:01] Heather Bedor: Yay.
[9:02] Amber Brzezinski: Uh, but yes, I will say hello to everybody. Jeffrey Cohen saw Rolling Thunder at New World Stages and enjoyed it a lot.
[9:09] Heather Bedor: I will be going to see Rolling Thunder next Thursday. That is a new off-Broadway show that kind of is like, um, I call it like the campfire.
[9:19] Amber Brzezinski: So they're doing a lot of songs from that Rolling Stones era, um, like Vietnam War. Justin Sargent, dear friend to me, dear friend to the show, um, is in it. I'm so excited.
[9:31] Heather Bedor: I'm so excited to see him.
[9:33] Amber Brzezinski: So yeah.
[9:35] Heather Bedor: Um, Chris Levy, also the Plastics.
[9:38] Amber Brzezinski: Yes, uh, the Plastics. Well, Mean Girls was based off of Heathers, um, which is based off of Mean Girls in general.
[9:45] Heather Bedor: Um, but I definitely think they'd all be in the same ones.
[9:48] Amber Brzezinski: And then Jeffrey would like to know will Joy extend or move to another theater.
[9:53] Heather Bedor: I wish I knew, Jeffrey. Um, and for those of you who are not following our Joy the Musical fan group, please make sure you do. We are officially associated with the show, so you will get as exclusive information as possible.
[10:06] Amber Brzezinski: Um, they just opened up the stock exchange, like they're doing some really cool, very unique marketing stuff. So I'm very excited about that.
[10:14] Heather Bedor: Yeah.
[10:15] Amber Brzezinski: Yep. So all right, you want to get right in that into it?
[10:20] Heather Bedor: Sure.
[10:21] Amber Brzezinski: Are we? Should we, should we like start off? Like, should we just like go into like with like a bang?
[10:27] Heather Bedor: Like, how do you want to go? Like, do we want to dip our chairs in the back?
[10:29] Amber Brzezinski: Yeah, you know, a lot, a lot.
[10:34] Heather Bedor: I'm gonna preface tonight's show with a lot of shit happened, y'all.
[10:41] Amber Brzezinski: Yeah, a lot this past week.
[10:43] Heather Bedor: Yeah, um, good, bad, indifferent, crazy, surprising, happy, sad, angry, like every emotion possible.
[10:56] Amber Brzezinski: If you think of like, do you know when you go to the doctor and they have like, how are you feeling on a scale of one to ten, and it's like a err face or a face. We kind of are gonna hit all of those.
[11:07] Heather Bedor: So if there's something you guys want to talk about, definitely comment in the comment section. Um, that will also enter you for the drawing to, uh, live on air, um, for the Emily Grace Tucker's print.
[11:18] Amber Brzezinski: Um, but also we just want to hear what you guys are thinking because again, a lot of shit's going on, and I think Amber, you and I are at that point, like we've been doing this over a year.
[11:30] Heather Bedor: We always try to stay pretty neutral. Um, but I think that it's important for people to kind of know what's going on.
[11:38] Amber Brzezinski: So if there's something you guys don't want to hear, I'm sorry. If there's something you do want to talk about, we don't really broach that specific topic.
[11:45] Heather Bedor: I'm also sorry, but we got a lot to get through, and yeah, let's freaking start off with a bang.
[11:50] Amber Brzezinski: All right, well, Olivia said it.
[11:52] Heather Bedor: Yeah, she did.
[11:54] Amber Brzezinski: It's almost our mind.
[11:56] Heather Bedor: So Darren Criss is leaving temporarily, temporarily.
[12:02] Amber Brzezinski: So it's been said temporarily.
[12:05] Heather Bedor: However, there has been evidence.
[12:07] Amber Brzezinski: There has been evidence.
[12:08] Heather Bedor: Oh, there has been nothing confirmed, nothing confirmed. However, I'm from a nice individual who said that they got an email from Today Tix that said Darren Criss will be returning on November 2nd.
[12:23] Amber Brzezinski: Yes.
[12:24] Heather Bedor: Take that as you will.
[12:26] Amber Brzezinski: Yep.
[12:26] Heather Bedor: Take that as you will.
[12:31] Amber Brzezinski: Um, so anyway. So Darren Chris is leaving. Maybe happy ending. And a pause and they're bringing it up. Yes. As a lot of shows do, they've waited a little while as it gets closer to the leaving date to announce this casting.
[12:51] Heather Bedor: Yeah. This is a common, a common thing. Yes. And I think it was for a reason. And I think it was because they weren't sure how this was going to be received. And I don't think they were quite prepared for the way it actually was received.
[13:14] Amber Brzezinski: So should we let's give the let's give the baseline facts. Baseline facts. Baseline facts. So it is an Asian-based show. Um there are some lines that people are concerned won't go over well with a different actor. For those that don't know, Darren Chris actually is part Asian. Um, and you know, he's he's like seven different kinds of heritages. Um heritage I uh but he he's he's initially the role, he's a producer on the show, like he's been part of his entire my phone is exploding right now. Um but they very specifically have this cast, and his understudy slash standby is also Asian. Um the person they have cast is Angie Barth Feldman, who we love, we love, we love. He was just in Little Shop of Horrors, he's all over the place, and Claire, Hella J Shen, it's her real life in life boyfriend for like a while.
He's he's quirky, he's smart. I love his voice. I think it'll bring a different demographic and and change to the show. But there are very valid reasons people are very upset because he is a Caucasian male.
[14:39] Heather Bedor: Right. So there's two sides of it. But I think for this specific collection, which they did bring to Broadway under the presumption of look at this Asian-led cast, look at this, you know, Asian representation. It takes place in Korea, which is that much more, you know, amplified because of its Asian cast. It takes you to into the story more. It is it is a little bit more disheartening to see. However, I do think that it is really sad to see that Helen is getting some of the backlash. I don't think that's fair at all.
[15:35] Amber Brzezinski: I don't know. I didn't hear she was getting backlash. Wait, uh, this is all new news to me.
[15:39] Heather Bedor: Okay. A lot of people are saying it was favoritism because it's it it is her boyfriend. I can see it's a mark marketing. It's I wouldn't say favoritism. It is a very smart marketing move. Very, very smart marketing move. But Helen, Helen has zero percent say in that. She is a brand new actress on the Broadway scene. She I'm sorry, but to give her hate for that is absolutely appalling to me.
[16:09] Amber Brzezinski: Yeah. And I just don't think she deserves that at all. I really did not know that. Um guys, I and I I know it's not our, I know it's not our members. I know it's not our followers, whatever. That's crazy because there's so much. There's so much red tape. Like it's like, did you ever see those like videos where like a car drives through like 20,000 strips of tape? It is so hard to just pull strings like that unless you're Andrew Lloyd Webber, or there's nobody that can pull strings or so many equity, so many union roles. You cannot just go, I want my boyfriend to do that.
[16:46] Heather Bedor: Oh no. Is it a possibility that the show went, hmm? Andrew's very talented, and we need to cover for Darren for a couple of months. It'd be interesting to see the two of them on the stage together because all real life couple. So cute. That's great marketing. I think that they waited too long to announce it. They should have done some more teasers to it. Um, or maybe did it like what they did with Titus over at O'Mary, um, where they're like, hey, we're gonna try this for a little bit. How's the audience reacting? Okay, goodbye. I also think there's another show that we'll be talking about that could have also done that too.
[17:29] Amber Brzezinski: The story that is that is being said is that producer saw him when she sent in her tapes because he was reading the all of her part.
[17:42] Heather Bedor: Okay, that makes sense. When she said so they always thought of him in the role in the back of their minds as a potential possibility. He's adorable. I think he could pull up Oliver so well. They saw it in their mind from that the get-go at that point.
[18:05] Amber Brzezinski: Yeah. No, I get everyone's point. And I think you and I are very much on the same page, but I'm also very open to everything else. I yes, um, blind casting 100%. Um it is, you know, when you're casting um an African American Audrey, or when you're I'm only referring to Little Shop because Andrew was just in Little Shop. Um, you know, or you have um uh uh Hispanic or Latina who's playing a Vita, even though it's technically not the same, like it's whatever you make of it. It's Billy Porter as the MC. We'll get into that in a hot minute. Um but it's a matter of what they do with it. Would I like to see somebody of that descent, you know, in that culture portray it a hundred percent. Would it be the exact same argument on the other side of things if they were only casting Asian actors?
I think so. Um I'm curious to see where it goes, and we'll never know. We're not gonna like get in the producers' heads or whatever's heads and figure out what's going on. All we can do is present the information that we have and still support the show. It's a beautiful show. Um I don't know.
[19:27] Heather Bedor: Um, and Olivia, you made a comment and you said it'd be the right thing in my eyes for Andrew to back down from it. I don't agree with that, and I'm not trying to be disrespectful. I I appreciate everyone's opinion. It's a working actor situation. And then it's kind of like if you back down, then are you kind of giving in to you know the oppression of society? Um, what's the show gonna do? They've been doing all of this, you know, they've been working him in. He's clearly been at rehearsals, like this is a put in, this is not just somebody showing up to do a job. It takes a lot. That role of Oliver is very hard. You are mechanical and emotionless, but full of emotion and and humanistic with being a robot, and then they also have the point where well, robots don't have any kind of not ethnicity or nationality, it's a robot.
So I think it's leaving it to be for interpretation. Um I'm curious to know how many people knew that Darren Chris had any kind of Asian ethnicity to him before this happened. Did you know that, Amber?
[20:34] Amber Brzezinski: I did. I did that because I knew he was one of the first um like Filipino actors to win the Tony for um best actor. Yeah, I mean I was saying outside of out outside of our our people here, because he's his mother is a native of Cebu, which is Philippines, and is of Chinese, Filipino, and Spanish descent, and his father is English, German, and Irish. He pretty much covers the whole world in one person. Um, I also think people just love Darren so much that you know, if it was anybody else, regardless, I think there'd still be some contention. So I'm curious to see how it goes. Um, see, and Chris Levy, honestly, I was shocked to find out that if Darren isn't just a European Caucasian, right? And yes, Cheyenne does say it's an interesting double-edged sword for sure.
[21:31] Heather Bedor: So it is. It's true, it it really is. And it does people are absolutely allowed to feel the way they want to feel about it as well, you know.
[21:44] Amber Brzezinski: Absolutely. Um, yeah, I just it's it's interesting. I'll be curious to see where it goes. Um shades of Natasha Pierre and the great comment and that debacle.
[21:56] Heather Bedor: Yeah. You wanna you want to just go right into all the hard, heavy hitting stuff for now?
[22:03] Amber Brzezinski: I mean, yeah, yeah. We we have to just pull the pull the band-aid off, even though I learned a new way to pull a band-aid off where it doesn't hurt.
[22:15] Heather Bedor: All right, say it. Guys, cabaret. I know I didn't I didn't even want to say the words, it's so bad. Um, I will put it this way. I have me personally, and I will knock it emotional, although it's very hard not to. I love the Kit Kat Club. I love Cabaret being a Jewish woman, um, loving the history, being a candor and like Joel Gray fan. Like, there's so much that I love about that show. And I have personally made the choice, due to what we're about to talk about, to not return to the Kit Kat Club before the NMIT's run. Um, and I have seen every single MC except Mart uh Marty, um every single one, and um that is because and I I don't want to like if it wasn't some like apology tour and some real reigns pulled in, or if it was an announcement, Marty would love to see would go. Billy Porter went from being one of the people I would love to see live that I've admired for so long to just kind of on my shit list. I'm sorry.
[23:33] Amber Brzezinski: Do you want to tell people in the most diplomatic way?
[23:41] Heather Bedor: I'm trying to think of how to paraphrase this. Um there was an interview for I think today show, I believe, and the way Billy is playing the MC in this production is American, which is quite different than the interpretation of literally every other MC in the history of this production.
[24:19] Amber Brzezinski: Oh where is Heather? I don't know where she went. Um but yes. Um and he went on a I think the Today Show, and he basically gave some interview that said something along the lines of like black people are the Jews now or something like that.
[25:12] Amber Brzezinski: It's another thing where two people, it's another thing to like diminish another person's struggle completely when you are put talking about your own struggle.
[25:31] Amber Brzezinski: I don't know. Um, Heather is reaching out. One quick second. Let me find her. Hold on. Um, but yeah, and then he also, let's see. Oh, she's just restarting her computer. Um, I guess she had a bad connection. Apologies, everyone. She had a bad connection. Um, so it's just the Amber show. Um, he's also apparently like yelling at the audience and like calling them like assholes, from what I'm hearing. Which I mean, like we know that Adam had that dynamic with the audience where like he would like give them that stare and like kind of God smited me.
[26:38] Amber Brzezinski: Um, we talked about the show and like the kind of comparing and putting people down and not really the Joe Crow thing, Jim Crow. Yes, yeah, just saying like the like the blacks now are the Jews in this story. And it's hard. I don't know what you guys, what did you guys hear me up to? I don't know. I was rambling. And then I was thinking he needs to drive over to Claremont. I'm in Orlando. And then I was I was just talking about how he's also like yelling at people in the audience and like calling them assholes, and how it's like a much more different dynamic than like how Adam would interact with the audience and like give people that like stare.
[27:35] Amber Brzezinski: Did you hear one of our Lamberts had an experience with? Apparently, Adam did this for every show. Do you know I'm talking about? No. So, and she was very sweet about it. We were talking about it in our group chat, um, like our Kit Kat Club chat. Um, and apparently before every show, and I had not heard of any other MC doing this. So if you guys are aware of any other MC, I'd love to hear this. Um, but before, so if people were being held as a show was opening, like they were latecomers. Apparently, Adam as MC would come through like the holding area and like tiss tiss them and like give them shit for um being late to the show.
[28:16] Amber Brzezinski: But was like cheeky about it, and she was like, I really wanted to tell people about it because we were like this close to Adam, but then everybody would just be running late for the show to be together. Right. Yeah, that's so true. Yeah. So I just I'm disheartened. My whole computer is like losing its mind right now. I'm disheartened because I was looking forward to his spin. Besides, did we talk about or did you talk about how it was on the West End compared to here? I mean, I just taught I just simply said how he's like playing it as like an American character, which like no one has ever done.
[28:59] Amber Brzezinski: Yeah, and he's playing it as an enslaved servant that escaped to Nazi Germany. Yeah, I don't get it. I just don't get it. Um, and I mean good for him for having that artistic liberation, but also um if you watch the article I had sent to Amber and we can also post, I think we posted it um on CBS News or something, um he very much was like searching for the words, so it's the opinion of some people in the industry that he very much went off of script of what PR had told him, which I can see. Um, but we're kind of here with it now, and I have noticed that their marketing is pushing a lot towards a lot more towards Marisha.
[29:45] Amber Brzezinski: Um and her experience and interaction her interactions and how wonderful she is, and I have heard so many people saying, like, she's great, Mariah's great. I'm here for da-da-da-da. Um, did you hear one of our members was saying that um that he during his show as the MC was calling random members of the audience bitch? No, but that's on par with like I was saying where he was calling people assholes, so it doesn't surprise me. He like apparently, like the word bitch, according to some of our members came out of his mouth about 50 times during one show.
[30:26] Amber Brzezinski: You bitches, bitch bitch, and um you know, I find and you know, Chris Levi says to be fair, the show was created in the 60s, and the Kit Kat Club is deliberately named the KKK. Totally get that. Um, yeah, Chris, I'm I'm there. I understand it. You know, here's the thing too. Um, I just watched uh Alan Seale's Broadway Podcast Network, dear friend of the show, and somebody that I've come to greatly admire if he's out there listening. Hello. Um, but he did a really great interview with an author the other night, and it's all about like the history of Broadway, but like, you know, the Jews and the African Americans and like the people that are were there but really weren't focused and featured in shows.
[31:14] Amber Brzezinski: Um, so I think it's so fascinating. Yes, there were African American people at that time. Is it realistic? Uh maybe, but also respect the art, respect the story. There are so many other stories out there. Like, I feel like him saying the blacks replaced the Jews in the story. Why are you taking that away from Jewish people? Why are you taking the the meaning of it's Nazis in Germany? And you know, that time of I mean, that is scary stuff. Um, I saw Harmony when it came out. It was such a beautiful show, and it was all about the Nazis.
[31:56] Amber Brzezinski: And if you have not seen Harmony, it's very Manilo show. Um, I'm sure there are time tutorials on it, but it was such a beautiful show, and it's a true story about um musical performers that were traveling, and some of them were Jewish, and it's scary because the world really hasn't changed so much if we're kind of downplaying you know part of at of our our history and our culture. Um, so yeah, I think I'm just getting a little bit more in passion than I need to. Um if you guys want to go see the show, go see the show. It's such a great show, but I sadly the last time I visited the club is gonna be my last time experiencing that, at least in New York.
[32:41] Amber Brzezinski: I'm I look forward to seeing the West End version for sure. Yeah. Yes, and Cheyenne says, Wow, hate to tell you, Billy, that's a quick way to lose fans, and it's almost as if he's rewriting the show by making this type of comments. Cheyenne, he said that that he is rewriting the script essentially that he is the most American, this is what's going on, this is what he's focusing on. Um, that's just sad because it's such a beautiful show, and I will say, and it's not even just in our group, um, I will say so many people in every kind of comment, they're like, Why couldn't David Marino or Marty Lauer take over for the MC?
[33:23] Amber Brzezinski: And I understand it. I do understand it. Um, because they are both very amazing people, but we again it's like that blind casting. Um I would have been okay if he took over as the MC, which is a traditionally played Caucasian male role and went into it as an African American man, but played the role of EMC instead of this iteration. But I could talk about this for another hour, and I don't want to do that. Uh, what else can we talk about? Well, this kind of segues into the next bit of news.
[34:07] Amber Brzezinski: Does it um our former MC Adam Lambert will be starring in obviously the Hollywood Bowl Jesus Christ Superstar? And he will be releasing a studio recording of Heaven on Their Minds from Jesus Christ Superstar. Is that the video clip that I saw on August 1st? Yes, there's been a video clip going around socials. So all you uh glam birds get excited. I'm sure you're all counting down, but that will be very exciting to see our our long beloved friend Adam back uh shining in in some beautiful music again.
[34:50] Amber Brzezinski: Um also Brian Justin Crumb. If you don't know that name, go freaking look him up because he's performing in the show as well. And oh my god, Josh Gadd, like everybody Joey Tarano, we love you, Joey. Shout out Joey. Right? I just I'm so jealous for anybody that gets to see that. It's incredible. Yeah, absolutely. Incredible. My mother just texted me, I'll be at your house in five minutes. I'm like, I'm still hosting the podcast.
[35:19] Amber Brzezinski: Speaking of um music releases, the cast album for Jonathan Groff's biomusical just in time has set its release date for August 15th, which will be for the full cast album streaming platform. Yep. The physical release date will be um October 24th. So that will be for like physical CDs, like the vinyl, I think, all that good stuff. I love that vinyl is having a moment. I love that vinyl's happy, and they're like beautiful. They're like blue. I I'm like, do I want to be a vinyl person?
[35:55] Amber Brzezinski: Yes, yes, you do. So I've been a vinyl person since I was a kid. Yeah, obviously I don't have my original record player. I'm a child of the 80s. Um, but a couple of years ago, I bought this really cool new player from Amazon. Shout out Amazon, uh, apparently. But my vinyl collection just keeps growing and growing, and I'm like, do I I mean I have Spotify? Do I need them on vinyl? I kind of need them on like and again going back to my love of cabaret.
[36:28] Amber Brzezinski: If cabaret said, Hey, surprise, which I hope to god they do, we've made a recording of some of your favorite MCs on this vinyl, blah blah blah. That is going to belong in my hands. Um forever and ever. But yeah, it's an expensive hobby, guys. Expensive hobby for sure. Yeah, but yeah, so Jesus Christ Superstar. And guess what else is coming soon? What? Like on Dorothy. What else is coming that's also related in a six?
[36:58] Amber Brzezinski: Let's play six degrees of separation from Jesus Christ Superstar. How we can do that. Oh god. Can I do can I do this? You can do it in less than six degrees. Okay, my brain not worky. Uh you start. Go on. Is it Jesus Christ Superstar and Andrew Lloyd Rebber too? Well, yeah. But I was going actual six degrees of separation and not just topical. So that's one degree of separation.
[37:29] Heather Bedor: I was thinking people, I'm like, how the hell is Rayma J Lee or Jeremy Stoll associated with Cynthia Erivo? This is how tired I am.
[37:36] Amber Brzezinski: Oh no.
[37:37] Heather Bedor: I was like, Andrew Lloyd Webber. Andrew Lloyd Webber. Also, shout out to my buddy Jason Handler. Masquerade. Paper faces not parade, yes. Um, and Jason, I'm so excited. So uh my dear friend Jason Handler and my friend Mark Cashwell and I are going to be going to Masquerade. Oh my god, can you believe it's next freaking Wednesday?
[38:01] Amber Brzezinski: Wait, okay.
[38:01] Heather Bedor: We highlighted Cheyenne's comment. I'd love to get a vinyl of Death Becomes Her.
[38:05] Amber Brzezinski: Oh, yeah, because of how awesome it looks.
[38:07] Heather Bedor: The whole Jennifer Swords the whole through the freaking center. Like if they didn't let me have that. But if they didn't do that, like fire everyone, get everyone out, cancel the show, close the show, we're done. I think if they were to make a vinyl of Masquerade, they would either A need to make it somehow wearable like a mask, or B, make it out of a chandelier crystal. But yes, so as I was saying, Jason and Mark and I, uh, so Jason lives in Celebration, which is about a half hour for me of that. Um, and Mark is in Indiana, um, and the three of us are going into the city to go see Masquerade. And I'm so excited. Um thank you, Helene. Appreciate it. I know. Coming through. Appreciate it. Yeah, Raul's present uh love it.
Perfect. Um, so yes, we're going to Masquerade. We have no idea what to expect. If you're not in our Masquerade fan group, join it. Uh, you can find all of our groups directly on the broadwayfanclub.com. So www.thebroadwayfanclub.com. Um, if you were looking to have some accessories, um, the wonderful Amber's little nimble fingers have been working very hard, but you can also go to our Etsy shop, the Broadway FanClub.etsy.com and find some cute little accessories there.
[39:28] Amber Brzezinski: Um coming this week. Oh my god, I'm so excited. Uh Masquerade slash Phantom, Heathers, Evita, Waiting for Godot, and then what is the do we have anything else? Am I missing anything?
[39:41] Heather Bedor: Not that I can think of. So guys, stay tuned for that too. But yeah, so um our group has exploded. It's nuts. It's like 140,000 people. Um no one knows what to expect. It does open for previews in three days. So Thursday. Three days. Um, we have all sorts of spoiler rules. So people are not allowed to post the main page. Um, we have a spoiler chat that if they want to know what they're walking into. And I personally um I have to pull this up for a moment because I'm just so excited. And since we lost our Instagram thread, as I'm looking it up, um, I have come across this incredible, incredible designer who's one of our members. Her name is Emily. Um if I can actually get her Instagram to open, it would be great because she is making me a custom mask, and I am like losing my ever loving mind over it.
Um I can't even show it to you yet. Okay, hold on. So uh, but yeah, is anybody else going to go to Masquerade? Um, when is your night? Come join us. Let me show you. Hold on a second. Yeah. I was like, I want to go on her Etsy instead so you can see it because I'm obsessed. Um it's unhealthy, Amber. You know when I like really get obsessed with something?
[41:13] Amber Brzezinski: Yeah.
[41:14] Heather Bedor: Yeah, it's like one of those things. She literally spent like three days helping me come up with the design because I had one design that I made on AI that I was just like, okay, I need to do this like right now. And then um I couldn't figure out how to do it without like making leather. So come on, little guy. I'm gonna show you some of her stuff. Standby. So shout out to her if you guys want to learn more information. Um, it's Siren Masquerades. Let me see if I can pull it up. And now I have Masquerade in my head. Look at this craziness! She's in Puerto Rico, she's originally from LA, she lived in New York. You see it?
[42:00] Amber Brzezinski: That's amazing.
[42:01] Heather Bedor: Okay, the freaking David Bowie stuff is nuts. Um but she makes all these like gorgeous, and there's Swarovski crystals. Um, she swears that they're light, which I love. Um there's new stuff that like has new look at the Mickey Mouse one so funny. Um she does use like Florida. Oh yeah, she has a whole beach collection that looks like sand. Let me see if I can find those. Hold on. I'm just like, you're insane, and she's so sweet. Um here, the seaside. Look at this. Isn't that crazy? Cute. It's so cute. Like if you're going to a masquerade on the beach, like why not? But apparently, um, I inspired her. I was her muse. Um, so she started doing more spooky masks this past week because of me. Um, but I threw in our colors for our mask, so my mask is gonna be so Masquerade requires black, silver, or white.
Um, so my mask is gonna be primarily black. We're gonna have a little bit of the red eyes for bats, because of course there's gonna be bats in it, um, and some silver stars. So I'm so excited. So excited. But yeah, so um next Monday will be my last show before being able to talk about Masquerade and whole, but I will not do any spoilers. I'm just going to um have to very much quickly and easily navigate around it.
[43:23] Amber Brzezinski: So um, what is next?
[43:28] Heather Bedor: Five, six, seven, eight, dunno, oh, I've wanted to hear the whole walk walk.
[43:39] Amber Brzezinski: Oh, is that that? Um god, what's it called? Um Hansel and Gretel.
[43:45] Heather Bedor: Yes. The Sound of Music.
[43:47] Amber Brzezinski: Yes.
[43:49] Heather Bedor: Um, course light.
[43:52] Amber Brzezinski: For those of you new to the show, um, Amber has I would say uh significant obsession with Christmas.
[44:01] Heather Bedor: I I when I was a child, my favorite song was Tits and Ass. It was I know, which is the funniest thing ever. It's still one of your favorite songs.
[44:10] Amber Brzezinski: It was great.
[44:11] Heather Bedor: It was so good. So um, yeah. And um for Christmas, I made her like the best gift she's ever gotten. It's a Chorus Line apron. It literally just says Chorus Line in hot pink to match her. Even though her hair is looking not as hot pinky and nope no pe no be. Um yes, um doesn't mean anything to me right now. So, like, what day is it today?
[44:38] Amber Brzezinski: Uh, Monday.
[44:46] Heather Bedor: So that was yesterday. Wow. Wow. Holy cow. That was yesterday. Wow. Well, but it wasn't the they did a flash mob. Was it Saturday? Okay, that's why I'm that's why I'm also like Yeah. Maybe so. I think the flash mob was Saturday, if I'm not mistaken.
[45:04] Amber Brzezinski: Yeah.
[45:05] Heather Bedor: Yeah. Um, they did a 50th anniversary concert of A Chorus Line at the Schubert Theater, which is the show's original Broadway theater. Yep. It featured a lot of original company members. It also um was a fundraiser for the entertainment community fund. So it also had um just incredible. Just incredible Broadway performers down the board. Uh our favorite Bebe Neuwirth was there, Christy Rodriguez, Jennifer Samard, Tommy Bracco.
[45:45] Amber Brzezinski: Tommy Bracco.
[45:46] Heather Bedor: Um, and then some original cast members. Kelly Bishop, Wayne Salento, Bayork Lee, Priscilla Lopez, Donna McKenzie. So that's very exciting.
[45:59] Amber Brzezinski: Yeah.
[46:00] Heather Bedor: Yeah. It's um God, it's cool. I wish I was there. Um, but from everybody, I'm scrolling through all the names to see. Guys, you have like two more minutes to put some comments into our comments section to be entered to win. Um just so freaking cool to be able to do that. And to see the original performers, um, I thought it was really genius. The videos that are kind of going for videos are going viral right now, um, where they're all holding up their headshots. And then they're jumping. Oh, you know who else was there? Nick Adams was there.
[46:30] Amber Brzezinski: Nick Adams was there.
[46:32] Heather Bedor: Nick Adams has been very active on social media too. Um, yep, our beloved Nick Adams, and then Pierre Marias Mores, I don't know exactly how to say his last name. Um, who was the last Joe Gillis in Sunset Boulevard, he was also there. Shut up, Pierre. Uh-uh. It's nuts. Um I I God, I wish they would bring that show back.
[47:03] Amber Brzezinski: They did bring back one of your other favorite shows. They brought back Ragtime.
[47:05] Heather Bedor: They did bring back Ragtime. Yep. We were talking about this a couple weeks ago of like what show would we want to see like brought back. I think Chorus Line would be really good. They credit Chorus Line or A Chorus Line, I was just told him the habit of it, of saving Broadway. I don't know if you guys are aware of that. So, like in a really dark time where Broadway was kind of like spiraling and not really a thing, A Chorus Line came out and just and so it's like that rescue show, but it's classic, it's music, you know, it's you know, all sorts of crazy dances and massive numbers of people doing the same step, and you're just like you can't find one person at a place.
[47:49] Amber Brzezinski: Right.
[47:50] Heather Bedor: So let's see. Chris, I gotta tell you. Hold on, hold on, Chris Levy says, I've heard it originally was Tits and Ass, but it gave away the jokes and nobody laughed when the rule when the title came. They changed it out of town and tore it down the uh tore down the house when people didn't expect it. Love it. Um I also feel like the movie that's one of those movies that does hold up to the musical. Like, you know, it's there's not a lot of like movies that that translate the musical translates well the musical vice versa. Um, and just like the way the movie does that, the whole mirrors, like that.
[48:31] Amber Brzezinski: Oh yeah.
[48:32] Heather Bedor: Is you mean the mirrors that you spent about 45 minutes with at the Broadway Museum of Broadway?
[48:38] Amber Brzezinski: Yes, but like they it's just it's incredible. It's incredible.
[48:43] Heather Bedor: Yeah, it's it's wonderful. It's a wonderful moment.
[48:45] Amber Brzezinski: It is, it's a wonderful world.
[48:49] Heather Bedor: Um in general, yes. Um, so yeah, um, that's cool. There's so many cool things. Like, I think this is a week for like cool nostalgic things um happening. I can't believe it's already the end of July. What happened? I know what happened. Um, but that's okay. So yeah, so I leave Friday morning for Tampa Bay Comic-Con. I get back Sunday night, I'm here Monday. We're doing the show Monday night uh with David Rakoff. I'm so excited. So David Rakoff, uh incredible uh creator, composer, producer, director, choreographer, um, creator of Nothing Like Broadway, which is a new off-Broadway show uh that we'll be creating a group for very soon. It opens September 14th um and goes through November 21st um at the Little Theater. Um it's so much fun.
[49:40] Heather Bedor: It's a four-piece show, but he'll be here next week.
[49:43] Amber Brzezinski: Um, and the really cool thing is so he's done some like really interesting stuff.
[49:46] Heather Bedor: Like, you know, we have those people in our lives who have like had unique jobs, like both you and I even.
[49:53] Amber Brzezinski: And so David used to actually consult and teach people how to look good for like Zoom and virtual meetings.
[50:03] Heather Bedor: Isn't that like a it's like a cool job? Um, and he is also like really on top of it when it comes to lyrics. So the show nothing like Broadway. Um, words are all rhyming, like there's perfect rhymes and perfect, like it's crazy. So he's gonna come on the show. We're gonna talk all about how to look best for the camera, whether that's a virtual meeting, a podcast, an audition. Um, we're gonna talk about nothing like Broadway, some of his other shows like Wonderland Wars. Oh my god, Amber, I will send you the music. Um so we're gonna be having that going on, and I'm super excited for that because he's so nice. And um, anytime I've talked to him on Zoom, and I'm like, I need you to just come to my house and make my location look better. So it's great. Um, and then yeah, I'm flying into New York Tuesday and um going right into it. I'm wearing my ball gown, ball gown, and uh we'll send you all the pictures and the videos and the things and the stuff.
[51:05] Amber Brzezinski: Yeah, perfect. Is there anything else you want to talk about before we do this wonderful drawing that Emily was so nice to give?
[51:13] Heather Bedor: Yeah, I mean, I have like a couple little tidbits of news left. Yeah, first we have some casting changes. Oh we have Trevor Wayne, he will be the outsiders next pony boy. He had previously been the understudy. Um it's he's not the only uh cast change. Dan Barry will also step into the role of Daryl Curtis while the original star Brent Comer takes a leave of absence to film a uh show for Netflix. So yeah, we have some cast changes at the outsiders. I know so many of y'all love that show.
[51:52] Amber Brzezinski: Next up, we have Wayne Brady and Tay Diggs taking over in your one of your favorites, Moon Ron Rouge. Super excited about that. Tay Diggs is scheduled to perform through September 28th. Wayne Brady staying through November 9th. Uh, they're joining Ashley Lauren as Sateen and Christian Douglas as Christian, uh, both of whom just joined the cast last week on July 26th.
[52:23] Heather Bedor: Lots of lots of shaken up, lots of shaking up. Last in cast changes, we have Little Shop of Horrors. Um, we have beginning August 12th at the West Side Theater, Nicholas Christopher returning to the role of Seymour. Guys, if you have not seen Nicholas Christopher, I was very skeptical going in. Very skeptical coming from Sweeney Todd over to Little Shop. His Seymour is freaking adorable and so cute. And um that he will be playing that up until August 31st before he goes into chess. Um playing against him as Audrey will be Madeline Brewer, um, debuting August 12th as well.
[53:13] Amber Brzezinski: If you have do you know who Madeline Brewer is, though?
[53:16] Heather Bedor: Uh I do not know.
[53:18] Amber Brzezinski: I know she's from the handmaid stuff.
[53:19] Heather Bedor: Yes, but not even a yes and yes, but if you guys saw the most recent and uh series finale of you um with pen badging everything, um and your favorite Tom Francis, which you need to go watch the freaking season, dude. Um, but she is the main protagonist in this season, and she is spicy, and I'm just so excited because I've seen her in so many different roles. Like I'm just really excited. I think it's her like off-Broadway debut, too, isn't it?
[53:57] Heather Bedor: I believe so, yes. So it'll be a really interesting matchup um after this like Liz and Graham 13 thing, you know. I thought they were it's interesting, they're cute. It's lots of great socials, but I'll be curious to see how the new cast. And of course, the week I'm there, they're not there. It's just gonna still be the transition time, which is fine.
[54:17] Amber Brzezinski: Right.
[54:17] Heather Bedor: Now, Liz Gillies, exactly. Liz Gillies and Graham Phillips left yesterday. So in between, they will be having the amazing understudies of Little Shop of Horrors in the lead roles please go support them they were incredible they got those roles for a reason go see them yes yeah and you know that's something that comes up a lot and we talk about it all the time too is like pardon me I was like what hiccups go see the show for the show um and people are like you know but the understudy I'm like but those understudy that is a huge freaking deal to be an understudy or a standby in a Broadway show or even an off Broadway show like those people are not only are they there every night they have to be ready at a moment's notice so they are doing everything and I don't know if you guys know this they are in costume and in makeup and stand literally standing by so um it happened at Evita the other night when Rachel got sick like immediately had to come and take it on and like you wouldn't have known any difference unless you know you were paying attention who was performing on the stage but it was such a a clean smooth transition and that's what they're there for so please support them right so yeah and the last hurrah of news hurrah we had so much news about national tours this week like a ridiculous amount yeah so we had the full cast of SUFS national tour announced head over to our sofs group you can see the full cast there um the outsiders their national tour was also announced um the dates and cities for the outs um the outsiders, the great gatsby national tour.
[56:06] Amber Brzezinski: That was also announced.
[56:08] Heather Bedor: Also, shout out to Amber Ordolino making her Jordan uh debut in Korea.
[56:15] Amber Brzezinski: Making her debut in Korea, yeah.
[56:18] Heather Bedor: We had the notebook cast announced.
[56:21] Amber Brzezinski: Yeah, head on over. You said this last week. We were talking about it, and like the next I know. I was like, when are they gonna announce?
[56:26] Heather Bedor: So that's and I was like, what's going on with Little Shop? And you're like, what about the notebook? And here we are, and we get to report them.
[56:33] Amber Brzezinski: That means that Water for Elephants is coming any day now.
[56:38] Heather Bedor: I hope so. Coming out any day now. It's got Cheyenne. SUFS is coming to Cheyenne, so that's awesome. Go see it.
[56:45] Amber Brzezinski: That's amazing.
[56:48] Heather Bedor: Um, this is pretty cool. One of the uh RuPaul's drag race most recent winner on your nerve will be uh one of the leads in the new kinky boots tour.
[56:59] Amber Brzezinski: I love kinky boots.
[57:00] Heather Bedor: Very exciting stuff. Um, as we started the episode off with so many things that came out of my life, right? Uh Dungeons and the Dungeons and Dragons, the 20 sided tavern, our dear friends are setting us on their national tour. They've already started, they technically started there at the Kennedy Center.
[57:22] Amber Brzezinski: Yes, they have some of their returning celebs from their stunt in New York City, yeah.
[57:29] Heather Bedor: Um, on their tour, so definitely check them out.
[57:32] Amber Brzezinski: Yep.
[57:32] Heather Bedor: Shout out to our friends over there. So proud of them. That's so cool. And I included this bit just for you.
[57:39] Amber Brzezinski: Uh-oh.
[57:40] Heather Bedor: Um drag race star Ginger Mind Juju B and Sapphira Cristal are taking a Witcher Hocus Pocus live on tour.
[57:52] Amber Brzezinski: That is true. I was literally just talking to Josh's husband CJ um about an hour ago.
[57:58] Heather Bedor: So yeah, to our spooky friends. Yes, their tour is pretty sold out at this point. Um yeah, really excited about that. Um, because ginger has been doing Hocus Pocus and like the golden gals stuff for years.
[58:16] Amber Brzezinski: So this will be fun.
[58:19] Heather Bedor: Cause I'll drag the musical.
[58:22] Amber Brzezinski: Um we do this giveaway.
[58:29] Heather Bedor: Um also, yes, uh Chris brings up one of my new favorite shows that hasn't even come out yet. So dot dot dot Adam Bow Chat Bow Chachi. I could never say his last name, and they're running to do Lost Boys. Uh rumor has it, nothing's been confirmed yet. Follow the fan group.
[58:45] Amber Brzezinski: All right.
[58:47] Heather Bedor: So um we have one, two, three, four, five, six different people, seven different people. I'm gonna go ahead and share my little janky wheel of prizes.
[59:00] Amber Brzezinski: That's not what I wanted to share. Stand by dokay.
[59:09] Heather Bedor: Are we ready?
[59:12] Amber Brzezinski: Ready, Freddy.
[59:13] Heather Bedor: I was gonna say ready, Freddie.

[1:01:49] Amber Brzezinski: Heather, you're wonderful.
