I'm so happy to be here for the third time because I love seeing the kids. They are so excited, they are so happy, and so the best.

[1:01] John Garzilla: Yeah, it is. It's the greatest thing. Like, and that's why you know I've been involved with SAY now for 20 years, and I'm seeing some of these kids. I remember when he was little.

[1:10] Robert Bannon: Right, right.

[1:12] John Garzilla: They're now working the event. Security. Um, it's incredible.

[1:19] Robert Bannon: Yeah. And I also to see kids and their families now, having been here for so long, grow up. And to see like these kids along the years gain more and more confidence and then kind of flourish into these really amazing adults.

[1:37] John Garzilla: Yes. Uh and all of them. They're all back here because that's how important SAY has been in their lives. And um, and so to be a part of it is a real thrill.

[1:47] Robert Bannon: It's true. I just wanted to show you this because I bought this from my hubby. He hasn't eaten it. This is from Samuel's Sweet Shop in Rhinebeck, New York. And I'm going to be able to do it, so I really appreciate it.

[2:13] Alex Brightman: I already I I was speaking of you yesterday. I I he was like, I talked to Alex, his line was really. And I met the beautiful boyfriend.

[2:22] Alex Brightman: Husband. Yes, you've got to be a good question. Excuse me. No, I meant no, I met the boyfriend.

[2:27] Alex Brightman: What was the husband's name?

[2:29] Alex Brightman: Such they were so nice and cool and just like it was so great to see him. It's also because you're in a place where you don't expect to see somebody you know.

[2:36] Alex Brightman: And so to have that in like to come up and have this beautiful, fresh, like, oh look good. Like it makes you crowns you to go, I know you.

[2:43] Robert Bannon: It seemed like it was a lot of fun yesterday.

[2:45] Alex Brightman: They had a good time. It's always fun. I I have a really, really good time doing them. They're exhausting.

[2:49] Robert Bannon: Oh, I have to do that.

[2:50] Alex Brightman: But in the greatest way. Were you like you, you feel like you've exhausted because you've done so many good things.

[2:55] Robert Bannon: Right, right. You just make, you know, it's like a line of people that you get to go, all right. I get to make all of you happy one by one. And it's really astonishing how I I I don't know if I was built for that, but it turns out I was.

[3:05] Alex Brightman: See? Yeah. I'm just, yeah, I really took to it, and I've done a lot of them now in the last two years, Comic-Cons, and I get to meet a lot of amazing people.

[3:12] Robert Bannon: Yes.

[3:13] Alex Brightman: And to bring it back to where we are tonight, like I get to meet a lot of people with a lot of things that they're dealing with, whether it is autism on the spectrum, but I have noticed and as a person with a stutter and had a much, much more crippling one when I was younger.

[3:26] Robert Bannon: Right.

[3:26] Alex Brightman: Um, but still, you know, you know, it still rears its head here and there and like little more traumatic moments for me. But getting to meet people that have stutters, and the minute I see one or hear one, I I without, you know, rather than ignoring it to be like, you have a stutter.

[3:40] Robert Bannon: Yeah.

[3:40] Alex Brightman: And and talking about how like impediments, you know, which is like it's it's really just unique and interesting and and it is who you are. And if you feel like you want to, you know, fix it, then sure. But that's your decision, not the world's decision.

[3:52] Robert Bannon: And so I like to do that thing where I have no problem when someone comes up in a wheelchair and goes, How'd you get in there? Because they want to talk about it. A lot of people do want to talk about their thing.

[4:00] Alex Brightman: Yes.

[4:01] Robert Bannon: And the world wants to go, oh, I didn't even realize you had that thing. And it's like, come on. We need to recognize it.

[4:07] Alex Brightman: Well, it's there.

[4:07] Robert Bannon: Yes. It's right in front of you. Why are you ignoring the the the red light that you you you see red lights, you know what to do when you see those.

[4:14] Alex Brightman: Right, right, exactly.

[4:14] Robert Bannon: Yeah.

[4:15] Alex Brightman: Yes. So what is next for you? You're back on Broadway, right?

[4:18] Alex Brightman: I'm not right just yet. But I'm coming back on Broadway in April.

[4:23] Robert Bannon: Okay.

[4:24] Alex Brightman: Um, which I cannot wait. We're doing a the adaptation of Shmigadoon that was on um Apple Plus, which is I as I'm like, I I can't stop cheesing about it because I did it in January at the Kennedy Center with a lot of the same company. And it is it was the most joy I have felt in a good half a decade. Maybe more than that, but it really genuinely is this joy missile that like is gonna hit Broadway. And it's just I cannot wait. And there's some cast members that they're gonna announce soon that you will not believe we got to do the show.

[4:54] Robert Bannon: Oh my god. Well, we have you. I mean, that's what I meant.

[4:56] Alex Brightman: It's me. It's uh, yeah. No, but the people they've announced, me, Sarah Chase, it's like we're doing we did it at the Kennedy Center, and we've known each other for over 20 years.

[5:04] Alex Brightman: And so our chemistry is just built in, and I just can't wait. It's gonna be like hanging out, getting paid to hang out. And we'll do a good job, we'll do a good job.

[5:11] Robert Bannon: Yes, yes, yes. I mean, now so today is my little my little nephew, he's turning nine, and I know you get this a lot. His name is Sam. He loved, he got to see Beetlejuice, and he absolutely loved it. Now he's into wrestling. He saw me in Beetlejuice when he was five.

[5:29] Robert Bannon: Oh, trust me, I'm not I'm not belittling it. I'm just saying I'm just trying to get the years right. He literally would do the show for me, and I'm like, oh my god. I'm like, and but I was young too. I remember I went to see Annie with Andrea McArdle. That was my first Broadway show. Way back on the day.

[5:42] Robert Bannon: And it just, it just, I love there's nothing better than Broadway. There's nothing better.

[7:35] Jennifer Newberry: I'm actually very impressed. I don't know what I had for breakfast this morning. But it's weird. My husband's like, really? I'm like, sorry. I just remember those things.

[7:44] Julia Murney: That's that's what we got.

[7:46] Jennifer Newberry: Yes. It is that season for it, and I had that. I started to like break them out, and my husband's like, really? I'm like, it's time. Don't tell your husband that I put my tree up yesterday.

[8:29] Jennifer Newberry: Okay. And I'm a very nostalgic girly. So I have a lot of ornaments that my mom made when we were little and and you know, and and that kind of stuff.

[8:39] Julia Murney: And whenever I travel, yes, I I get ornaments.

[8:42] Jennifer Newberry: We do the same.

[8:44] Julia Murney: It's just something special. Although I get caught, I don't know if this happens to you, um, when uh I don't get something that says whatever, you know, London on it.

[8:53] Julia Murney: And I'll be like, this is pretty. I was somewhere. I don't know where I was, but yeah.

[8:59] Jennifer Newberry: Yeah, I like a white light. Do you like a color lighter?

[9:01] Julia Murney: I do like the different colored lights. So, but we do a little bit of both, but we definitely have old, old ornaments like from back in the day. Because it's just a special memory and very sweet.

And I just love the idea that there are organizations like this that are out there working to make sure that kids are heard and empowered.

[10:32] Jennifer Newberry: And that people they're empowering other people who don't know about people who stutter. And empowering us to be patient.

[10:40] Jennifer Newberry: And to be kind and to slow down in a city that never slows down to give kids um space to speak the way that they were born to speak.

[10:50] Julia Murney: And they feel seen. Seen, seen and heard, which is so important across the board, and it's really important to these kids. Like we can't create a culture of shame. This organization is so important, and I'm amazed that it's been around for 20 years. I hope that it's around forever.

[11:08] Robert Bannon: Right, exactly, exactly. So, what is your most favorite part of playing Glendale?

[11:12] Julia Murney: Oh my goodness. Um, just I think it's the amount of emo, like the emotions that she goes through. The arc of the entire show is just truly a full circle. Yeah. Um, I have so much fun because she goes from, you know, college all the way to like years after she goes through a lot of life. She feels the highs incredibly high, and she feels the lows really low. And it's what makes the comedy real. Uh, because everything is very real to her and very earnest, and so um that's what I love about her so much.

[12:12] Kyle: Yeah, yeah, no, I'm a huge fan of supporting, you know, kids that have these challenges. I had dyslexia growing up, so it's another similar sort of challenge that you get bullied for and stuff. So, the support of things like this, I think, is great and a very smart thing to do.

[12:27] Tucker Des Lauriers: So yeah, I mean, everything Tucker said I completely agree with. Um, it's an honor. Mitch was actually the first person that I met who the first person I'd ever met who had a stutter. We talked about it on the island, um, it's something that we connected on, and um, it's just incredible to see someone like him who can talk and advocate for people like himself and advocate for himself in certain spaces and make people feel more comfortable about something that he's experiencing. And um, it sounds like SAY does that too. So I'm really excited to be here.

[12:54] Kyle: That's so amazing. So everybody deserves to be comfortable with who they are, you know.

[13:00] Tucker Des Lauriers: It's very, very true. So I have to say, my brother-in-law is a huge Survivor fan. I was not a big brother fan until 2020.

[13:07] Kyle: It's good.

[13:08] Tucker Des Lauriers: Listen, and now I'm watching. And now we're watching The Amazing Race as well.

[13:13] Kyle: Yes, I mean, to get to visit these amazing places, I mean, what was one of your favorite cities that you've been to this on the city?

[13:19] Tucker Des Lauriers: Oh, I mean, Dubrovnik was just so surreal because I'm a huge Game of Thrones fan. And you know, it's like Queen's Landing. I'm pretty sure my brother and I raced up the steps for the whole shame walk to happen, and I realized it halfway through, and I was like, I can't even tell him right now. It's so exciting. Uh, and we just crushed it in that city as well. So that was probably one of my favorites. But the whole thing, it was the best experience. It's very cheesy, but you know, it's just it was amazing. I mean, The Amazing Race was amazing, but uh yeah, it's very, very hard to put into words, and it's uh once in a lifetime opportunity. And you know, the challenges you get to do, I feel like if you wanted to pick and choose any one of those, it would cost you more than a million dollars. So the money's just a bonus, but the experience is the best part about it.

[14:03] Kyle: That's so cool. And I mean, for you, and twice you weren't Survivor.

[14:06] Tucker Des Lauriers: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, season 50 coming out soon. Um, but season 48 was incredible. I think that where else can you get experience like where you get to meet 18, 17 other different people? You know, I'm a lawyer, my wife's a lawyer, I'm surrounded by lawyers every day. To get onto an island, put my phone away and be around a group of people who have no similarities to me was incredible. And then just to get to survive. I mean, to just be out there and just feel raw. Literally surviving.

[14:31] Kyle: Yeah, literally. I mean, it's the experience of a lifetime. A little bit different, The Amazing Race, but like you know, it's fun. It's fun, and they're fun in their own ways. Also, Game of Thrones fan here. Uh, no, no walk of shame on Survivor, but you know, well, guys, thank you so much.

[17:54] Everett Bradley: No, it's one of the most fulfilling things I've ever done in my life. I mean, aside from all the Spring themes and the Bon Jovies and everything.

[18:04] Everett Bradley: This is the one that goes right here. Goes deep. When I this is our third time coming here, and to see these kids, and I remember some of them. Like I'm like, I remember. I was like, you know, sometimes you notice those.

[18:15] Robert Bannon: Is it amazing to see them grow?

[18:17] Everett Bradley: Yeah, I mean, it's scary for us.

[18:18] Robert Bannon: Yes, yes.

[18:19] Everett Bradley: Because we're aging. But they are blossoming.

[18:23] Robert Bannon: Not aging, but blossoming.

[18:24] Everett Bradley: And the confidence that they have.

[18:26] Robert Bannon: That's so key.

[18:28] Everett Bradley: Beyond, no, it's that's the biggest payoff. Like with all the work that we do here, to see that happen is it's the thing. And I think that they feel seen. Like, you know, sometimes they want to hide, they want to shy away because they're afraid of what others will say. But this organization helps them come out of their shell.

[18:43] Robert Bannon: Oh no, I mean, this organization, like through sort of arts education and sort of camp related things, we just sort of deliver all the skills that they need to thrive. You know, so it's a great organization and it's doing the right things.

[19:50] Joan Hess: I love this event, and I adore this organization. I think it's so important. It's really pretty inspiring what they're doing for youth who stutter, and I love to be a support. I'm really honored to be here. I also feel like it's pretty life-changing, actually, what they do. So it's a really fantastic, fantastic event.

[20:09] Robert Bannon: Yes. The energy, I love the energy.

[20:11] Joan Hess: It's a good thing. We need the good vibes, you know, especially this time of year.

[20:15] Robert Bannon: You're not kidding. Good point. It's like it just made my whole day that knowing I was coming here, it was a really busy day, and I was like, I get to go actually have a grand time tonight with this super positive group. So how could that be bad? I'm so grateful. And you know, yes, to see everybody and and you know, see old friends, make new friends, but to see the kids and see how excited and happy they are, it's just that I love seeing that myself.

[20:39] Joan Hess: I'm totally with you. I'm last year at my lane, I had the best young guys, and it like the second go-around, they're like, I said, Do you want a bowl in my place? And one of them was like, I would love it. And he every time he got up there, and I was like, You are rocking it, dude. They were knocking me out. They were so cute and fun. So it's the best.
