Alan is a Scottish actor, singer, producer, writer, and activist. He is known for his roles on stage and screen, and has received numerous accolades, including a Tony Award, an Olivier Award, a BAFTA Award, and an Emmy Award.
Cumming began his career in the late 1980s, appearing in a number of British television shows and films. He made his breakthrough role in 1992 with his performance in the West End production of Accidental Death of an Anarchist, for which he won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy Performance. He went on to win the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance as the Emcee in the 1998 Broadway revival of Cabaret.
Cumming has also appeared in a number of successful films, including Emma (1996), GoldenEye (1995), Eyes Wide Shut (1999), X2 (2003), and Spy Kids (2001). He is also the voice of Shangri-La in the Nickelodeon animated series Dora the Explorer.
In addition to his acting career, Cumming is also a successful author. He has written a number of books, including the memoir Not My Father's Son (2014), which was a New York Times bestseller. He is also a vocal advocate for LGBTQ rights.
