ALBERT EVANS is a musical theater composer, lyricist, and dramaturg. Raised in Ohio, he began writing musicals in high school and college. In his twenties, he moved to New York City where he composed the off-Broadway shows Pageant, The Texas Chainsaw Musical, and Nite Club Confidential and wrote English lyrics for New York City Opera’s performing edition of The Merry Widow, broadcast on Live from Lincoln Center (PBS).
In the 1990s, Albert was composer-in-residence at Paper Mill Playhouse, writing soundtrack-type scores for play versions of A Tale of Two Cities, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and lyrics for Mikado Inc. It was at Paper Mill that he first met and became good friends with Broadway Nation’s writer and host David Armstrong. He and playwright Ron Kaehler wrote a series of musical touring shows for young audiences and created A Country Christmas Carol, a heartfelt spin on the Dickens story, set in 1950s rural America. In 2008, Evans became Artistic Associate and Dramaturg at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre, where he wrote music arrangements and/or lyrics for several mainstage productions including Yankee Doodle Dandy and Paint Your Wagon. He retired from the 5th Avenue Theatre in 2024.
