In Transit made history as Broadway's first fully a cappella musical — no orchestra, no instruments, every sound produced entirely by the human voice. With book, music, and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez, James-Allen Ford, Russ Kaplan, and Sara Wordsworth, the show followed an ensemble of New Yorkers navigating love, career setbacks, and personal turning points, all connected by the rhythms of the city's subway system.

Directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall, In Transit played at the Circle in the Square Theatre from December 11, 2016 through April 16, 2017. The production originated Off-Broadway, where it won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble. Kristen Anderson-Lopez later became an Academy Award winner for her work on Disney's Frozen.
